Would like to pose this question and see if any of the group can assist me.
I currently image our new CPU's with a secure image of Windows XP Sp2. Our computers (desktop and laptops) mainly consist of Dell's and images work fine thanks to our information management staff. However, our director has an HP Pavilion dv8000 notebook that I cant get an image to take on it. It just goes into a cycle of choosing safemode or boot normal.
The weird thing is, I have an option at the start of the image to choose "network" or non-network (stand alone) and the stand alone image works fine.
Are they any settings on this HP that I need to turn off or on for the network image to work?
Thanks in advance
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
This happened couple days ago when my laptop started to act like crazy.. It used to freeze but two days ago it shuts down when I'm in the middle of doing something like Photoshop.. It even shut down while posting this thread once..
I thought it'd be a problem with the windows so I installed a fresh one but yet the problem is not solved..
And after some search on internet I came up with some apps like HDD and CPUID Monitor and here's a snapshot of the scan, and I wish someone of TECHSPOT family would help, that'll be so much appreciated..
I have an Hp Pavilion that I got about 2 years ago and I do play games on it. One game in general which is League of Legends. My concern is that if anyone knows about this game during teamfights when the computer is operating extensively because of all the action going on I always frame lag. My frames drop only during fights. When nothing is happening my frames are okay. As well other programs on my computer run slowly now as well like windows media player and just when I'm starting programs up on my comp. This happened now so long ago and it was a sudden change. I don't know what to try anymore. I have reformatted my comp and still the same issue. Help would be much appreciated thank you.
The HP Pavilion could be over-heating. After years of use, the CPU's thermal pads and paste become hardened and this causes the CPU to run hotter and hotter causing game play to suffer
I've recently bought a HP Pavilion 15-n252sq laptop, with Free Dos - unfortunately I can't install Windows 7 over it, due to the following error I keep receiveing in the Installation screen:
"Select the driver to be installed" - and regardless of the paths I have and the available folders, I can not seem to proceed wtih the W7 installation.
Please notice that, I've tried to use both a W7 DVD and also a bootable USB drive (and yes, connected in the USB 2.0 port and not USB 3.0 ) - but I always get to the same point where I have to select drivers.
Please also notice that the BIOS doesn't allow me to make any modifications except for some minor ones (like select boot priority, or enable USB 3.0), as the rest of the MAIN features are greyed out .
Can anyone please help me with this issue?
You may have to use a program Like KillDisk to reformat the drive. Then try installing your Win 7 DVD.

Have you worked on or repaired many laptops? English is not your first language?
Hi I was wondering what form factor type this Pc has BTX or ATX, if im wrong in saying this please point me in the right direction, I require at least a 500W PSU and I am only purchasing in australia, Maybe from china if on ebay
1gb VRAM (Nvidia Geforce 520)
Intel i7 2600 - Quad core
According the the Manufacturer details, you have a standard ATX PSU so as long as you stick with that, you can fit pretty much any inside your machine. It does look like the 300Watt version inside the machine is a bit short compared to normal PSU's, but as long as you still have space, it should fit just fine.
Hi all My parents have an HP Pavilion entertainment laptop that frankly didn t run well when it was new but is really struggling to open programs now I am thinking of putting in an SSD as a boot drive and moving the HDD into the optical bay and upgrading the RAM to the max of Also possibly Pavilion 1100? HP dv6 Should upgrade I upgrading to Windows I think would confuse them My dad does a lot of photo editing using Lightroom Other than that it s basic word excel amp Internet browsing only Is it worth it for me to put a few hundred dollars I figure about into the laptop or should they look for a new desktop instead It would be worth it to me to extend the life of the laptop with a view to buying new down the road Here are the current specs HP Pavilion dv t- GB RAM Intel Core Duo T Should I upgrade HP Pavilion dv6 1100? Ghz bit Vista ATI Mobility Radeon HD Thank you nbsp
I would keep the HDD, clean install Windows 7 (check out this article for help: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/clean-install, it is for Windows 8, but the same applies to Win 7), and upgrade the RAM. I wouldnt add an SSD because your CPU is pretty old and the SSD will be bottlenecked by it and therefore it would not help. I recommend Clean installing Windows over the SSD because clean installing gives the "New" PC feel to old hardware like an SSD does to semi-new PCs. The RAM will also make a huge difference. After you clean install Windows, report back and ill tell you what drivers you need (you only really need a display driver).
I think it is a good choice to wait for a new laptop down the road. This upgrade will gain you a few years, but dont expect to game on it. Keep in mind, clean installing Windows will delete all of your data! So use these sites to help assist you in your back up adventure:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/back-up-your-files (For Windows 7, but Vista is basically the same I think).
I recommend this less since it transfers old settings (which can be causing the performance hit you are experiencing) to the new install: http://lifehacker.com/5983652/how-t...without-losing-your-files-settings-and-tweaks
Windows 7 will set you back a hundred bucks: http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Premium-64bit-System-Builder/dp/B004Q0PT3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366680086&sr=8-1&keywords=windows 7
But it is worth the upgrade. If you are a student you can sometimes get discounts thru Microsoft but since they want to separate themselves from Win7, they may not offer this anymore. But they still do for Win8, but it is hard to find an institutions other than universities.
Use this tool to find out what RAM supports your system: http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner (tell me if the link doesnt work since I am running OS X now and it automatically sends me to the download for OS X, so I cut off some of the URL)
Finally, install the Catalyst Software Suite after you have clean installed Windows 7 and added the RAM: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeonaiw-vista64.aspx
Keep in Mind: You should install the newest BIOS revision for your laptop before upgrading to Win 7 to avoid errors: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...TypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3873224&taskId=135

Hello Community My name is Andrew Fratello and I work for a computer repair shop in Florida I m new in the field at a professional level but I ve been tinkering with computers since I was a little kid I m new to this site as well and I hope it to bring me some good help with some of my future work if I cant trouble shoot it myself The HP Pavilion Dv - dx Laptop came into the shop today The problem with the PC is that it doesn t have any display HP laptop Dv6-3025dx issue Pavilion display at all You can turn it on and it will stay on just fine but even when I plug in a VGA cord connected to one of our shop HP Pavilion Dv6-3025dx laptop display issue monitors the screen still isn t displaying If it was a LCD screen issue I m sure I would have been getting video feed from the external monitor which leads me to believe that the motherboard is malfunctioning I want to double check here with you guys and get a couple opinions before I let the guy know what the problem is and what needs replacing The last thing I want to do is have the gentleman buy a new part that is worth a couple hundred and then it turning out to not have been the problem at all Please get back to me ASAP Thanks and looking forward to your responses nbsp
My guess would be the video chip. If you are not getting it on either screen.
I have a hp pavillion d4000 and I want to upgrade the processor. It has a 3.2 ghz amd but when I go to hp's website to see what the max processor I can put in it it hasl only a 2.4 ghz processor listed in the replacement parts list.

Hey guys so its been like a week now of me trying to get audio on my computer, Iv download, uninstall my audio drivers to my computer nothing has worked.
I had 1 Logitech headset that would only work for my computer, Any new headsets or speakers I bought wouldn't work.
When I go to my control panel> hardware and sound> device manager it says I have,Real teck higher definition installed.
The Small volume icon in the bottom right corner has an x in it, And when I open volume mixer,
It says no audio devices installed.
I already checked Bios.
Please someone help me before I go mad!
As well when I go into Dxdiag, It says error problem getting extra sound info
This is my dxdiag Shot
Also in my Msinfo32, When I clicked problem devices, Nothing showed up
Have you tried uninstalling all audio drivers and rebooting, then let windows install it's generic audio driver and see if there's sound? Sometimes another program or driver will corrupt the audio driver and requires un-installing the hardware (in Device Manager) and re-booting, then see if Windows finds a driver for it. I looked on Asus website for the latest audio drivers, but for the 4 versions of this motherboard, none have driver support for Vista or newer, only up to XP. Why are you using Vista, anyway? That's arguably the worst OS in existence, mostly because of driver problems. Still, Vista should have generic drivers for on board audio in it's driver database or you could try using the XP drivers from Asus http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_478/P4PEXSE/#download . If that doesn't work you may have a fried sound card. I've seen this problem a few times on older systems, either all drivers and everything looks good but still no sound, or drivers won't install because this hardware has a problem. In these cases I was forced to assume the output side was fried (after hours of troubleshooting and trying 3rd party drivers) and just install a cheap ($20) audio card (which probably sounds better than the on board audio anyway). I see you have PCI and PCIe slots so any card will fit. Here's a decent card for cheap; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132020
So I'm going to upgrade the default HDD on my laptop HP Pavilion DV6 2153.eo. There are two things that I'm not so sure of tho.
1. Can I get a SATA/III SSD HDD and throw it in the laptop <- are the SATA/III SSD HDDs backward compatible with/to SATA/II
2. What HDD should I get, it should at least be something like 180Gb but then also the price shouldn't be sky high...and then ofc I should also be able to get it here in north Europe
P.S. I'm also going to get more ram...is there anything else that can be upgraded..?
...a bump here maybe...gonna need to order the parts soon so O_o
I am sorry to bother you with something simple but I can't seem to find the right info. I have an HP Pavilion 533W that is running a 1.79GHZ processor, I have not removed it, only looked for the specs..
I have an Intel Celeron D 2.53 GHZ /256/533 that I bought new for a similar model but the motherboard ended up bad. I would like to upgrade with this extra processor I have but I can't find enough info on these to find out if it will work. I am almost down to just having to uninstall it and compare the cpu's.
I was hoping that someone would know the answer since this is not my strong point in the computer business. Thanks in advance for any help.
If the Celeron fits in the CPU socket, try it...
Hi Guys Got given a HP Pavilion DV from a friend who said it was busted i ve replaced the harddrive and ram and have got it working Last night i installed a lite version of XP with sp built in It installed perfectly in under minutes However i cannot get the wireless to work I downloaded and dv4000 on XPLite (wireless issues) Pavilion SP3 installed the drivers from the HP website and this allowed me to turn the wireless on and i get the little bubble in the bottom left corner saying there are wireless networks in range however if i click the balloon and it searches for wireless it cannot find any even though the router is right next to it After about a hour of playing around trying to get it working i downloaded another driver pack from the HP XPLite SP3 on Pavilion dv4000 (wireless issues) website and this included a wireless application i think it was HP Wireless assistant but i can confirm that later today With the application running i can find wireless connections but the actual wiress adapter still cannot find any When using the software to connect to the wireless it allows me to enter the wpa key and the windows connection says its a bridge network but it never makes it passed authencation Obviously the drivers are still wrong Can anyone point me in the right direction Cheers Nick nbsp

Some wireless configuration application disables the windows built-in wireless configuration manager so as not to cause any conflicts. Using the HP wireless assistant you can successfully connect to the network? Windows built-in cant?

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 - 4285dx which comes with a Multi DVD +/- DL blah blah whatever drive in it. (no bluray)
I would like to know if I could find a replacement bluray drive for this laptop.
Does anyone know where I could find this or if this is even possible?
I would assume its possible since that I had bought a bluray drive for my PC, and it works.
After some more research I found a replacement part that should work.
For anyone looking for similar answers, the part number is 605417-001 CT21L
Just do a google search with part of that number or all to help find the correct parts.
I hav a computer that has its intergrated video card which stopped working because of the video card which is attached to the mother board .It is one of the newer post 2007 compact desktop computer with a flat screen monitor but the challenge is that the good friend of the family got an extension video card but it is too big to fit in that machine. How can I get a video card that will fit the above machine abovein which is a newer late 2000's -today.The operating system is vista.
This slimline computer probably has a PCI express 2 video slot on the motherboard. You will have to buy a small form factor or low-profile video card for the computer. They are available. Here is an example:
Notice the small adapter plate in the pictures. You may have to install it on the video card before you can install it into the computer. It is not difficult to do
recently purchased the above base unit and TV. i can play Xbox on it and use portable speakers which work fine. However when i switch to PC mode there is no sound and the speakers are not recognised. Is this a manufacturers fault or something else? Please reply asap.
What type of cable are you using to connect the PC to the TV?
Im not very good with computers, I only really know how to turn it on and type.
I got a HP Pavilion dv4 1465dx notebook last year. The RAM is 4.00 GB, and the Harddrive is 194GB free of 286 GB. It uses Windows Vista.
My sister has all of Sims2 games and expansions.
I always try and diskcleanup and get rid of unneccessary things when I can, but ive always wanted to play games with my friends but couldnt since I got it and BEFORE my sis put sims on it. Often I feel like my older desktop is faster than this.
I was wondering if there was anything I can do? When i googled many people said 4.00 GB RAM was enough to play games so im not really sure why its so slow.
Download and run free Surperantispyware and tell us what it finds. What antivirus program is installed?
I need a cheap laptop that shouldn't be used for much more than MS Office and casual gaming, for games like Dawn of War S1, Dawn of War S2, World of Warcraft and other such games and RTSs, could anyone check it out for me? I've had a look but i'd like more opinions.

Looks like you can go with any 60GB, 80GB, 100GB, or 120GB (Non SATA) Hard drive. That HD in your first link is a 9.5mm....The 9.4 is probably a typo.
Here's the website i looked up

How old is this computer? The power supply may be on it's way out...
i have an hp notebook (see title) running w7 sp1, that is only 13 days old. just yesterday it started making a very annoying sound. it just makes the same 2 tone sound really fast. when you click on the sound icon in the task bar the meter reads 100%. nothing has been installed recently before this started. the sound dialog box under recording shows the mic meter steady around 50% and the stereo mix meter at 100%. it's almost like constant feed back but i don't think that's it. i talked to hp and they said to upgrade my bios but the ftp link they sent me to doesn't exist. anxious to provide any other information needed. thx
It was the driver...uninstalled and reinstalled. Fixed.

PCI Express x16 One (One available)
I would recommend a gtx 460 or an amd 6790. Both run right around $150. For only 150 you aren't going to get anything near max settings. Also you have to upgrade your psu. The recommended amount is at the very minimum 300w for a low end graphics card. You ideally need a mid-high end gpu, but you can't get all that much better performance in your price range. You should be looking for a decent 450-550w PSU. Corsair is a good brand.
The old hard drive completely failed to the point that I am unable to recover any data on it. So I put in a new hard drive and went to reinstall Vista and got the lovely error about needing to load a driver for the hard drive. I've tried every Vista driver listed and it won't load the driver for the hard drive. I flashed the BIOS, still no luck. The BIOS does not offer any options to change the settings on how to read the hard drive.
Any suggestions on what else I could try?
Somewhere in your bios there will be a setting to select which mode the hard drive is running in. You may well have a SATA drive which Vista should have drivers for but in this case you need to set the hard drive to run in IDE mode then it should install. After installation load all the mobo drivers which should then allow you to set the HD back to sata/raid operation which is much faster.
Hi i have a hp pavilion in to look at it was not booting windows i got it going had it sitting on my desk when shutdown and displayed a hardware error message something to do with the memory.
so what i want to know is do the pavilians suffer with heat problems or any other problems that might cause this .........
All laptops suffer from heating more than desktops do. HP laptops are no better or worse than other laptops concerning heat. If you are concerned, go out and buy one of those cooling platforms for laptops. If you continue to get memory errors, check your memory using Memtest86. Let it run for 7 or more passes

if you have the version with the Asus motherboard A7V5X-LA, you are working with an AGP 4x/8x interface. They are getting scarce, but this is about as good as it gets unless you find one of the 3850's or the Geforce 9600 AGP. this one is SM3.0
Okay so I'm not technologically savvy but I'm guessing to make most of the games that I download to actually run, I need a better graphics card?
Whenever I play games with decent to good graphics, my system just won't function right. They lag until my computer freezes and stuff. So I just wanna know what I can do to actually play games.

HP Notebook Pavilion Entertainment I am having issues with my keyboard. Last night I powered off my laptop, I got into work and powered it on, and to my disliking I discovered that it would turn on, the lit wifi buttons and volume controls would turn on, but the pc would not boot up. To add to the mystery of this the num lock and caps lock lights keep flashing. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong with my laptop?
problem resolved, my CPU went bad.
Before going to work this morning I put my computer on hibernate, when I came back my wifi networking was down. It is not that I am connected to a network but cannot open internet, my wifi network does not start up. The little red light does not turn blue! I have no idea why it is not working, any suggestions appreciated.
Hey, reasons for the light not to turn blue could be a problem with the physical hardware itself, being that it somehow shorted or something along those lines.
Another reason could be that it is not being supplied power, once a computer goes into hibernation mode it is given the right to stop power to that device, and possibly once starting back up, there was no power given to the Wireless? Have you tried to shutdown the computer normally and try it again? Another reason would be that the wireless settings and everything are all controlled by a service, and maybe the service failed to start. Rather then get you to go to the exact spot and try and turn on the service, just restart the computer. If that doesn't work and you want to try and manually start the service, reply back that you would like to do so and I will try and step you through it.
Other things to try - Reinstall the drivers for the wireless adapter, you will need to go to HP's website, type in your DV9500 as well as the other numbers on the bottom of the laptop on a white sticker, located near your prodocut key usually...
if you are comfortable with opening the laptop up, on the bottom side of the laptop, one of the covers will likely have the wireless card in side, it is connected by 2 wires, a black and a white, if you go to take the card out remember where each cord goes. You can take the card out, boot up the computer, shut it down, reseat the card, and boot up the computer, see if anything comes up..
WARNING: If attempting to remove the wireless adapter card, please be aware that if the card is not damaged, you could damage the card, make sure you are grounded when working inside of the laptop, as well make sure that there is NO POWER to the laptop, this means Remove both the battery and the power cord..
Nothing else comes to mind of what it could be...
If you can't get it to work, try safe mode with networking, if still nothing, I would suggest to bring it to a shop to see if they have a way to test the physical card in a similar laptop or possibly have a new card to test in yours..
EDIT: This is something I found on the Mobile section of this forum where a fix was found on other HP Dv**** Models,

Defective hard drive is my guess.
Have you tried removing and reinstalling the partition? If you cannot do that, you should try another hard drive as a test.
I recently bought an HP Pavilion used. Here's the problem. The battery was getting ready to expire and then the computer went into "hibernation" mode. After plugging in the charger to recharge the battery and turning the computer on manually I encountered the following: The screen does not come on at all, but the computer "acts" like it's trying to start? The keyboard lights come on and I can hear the the fan start. After a few seconds it "restarts" itself and repeats this over and over. The screen never comes on through all this? Any suggestions? HELP!!! Thanks for all your replies

Cleaning Laptop KeyboardClick to expand...
Other than cleaning
You may need to physically remove the keyboard (usually via removing screws underneath laptop)
And disconnect it then reconnect it
You could also test with a USB keyboard, to confirm it's the laptop keyboard only
The hard disk crashed and I have been unable to reinstall Vista Home Premium with org. and recovery disks on new Hard Disk. Would like to reformat and install Win XP on it. Can't seem to figure out how to do it.
I get the "no operating system found" error. The HD is unformatted as it is new.
I've been all over the HP site and followed the endless loops for information, to no avail.
Any help will be greatly appreciated (sp).
You have to have a valid Windws XP install disk... HP install disks detect the hard drive, and if they are not designed specifically for that drive, they wimply will not work. You may have to buy a copy of Windows XP, then boot to it...
You will need drivers, so check to see if the HP website offers drivers for that system configuration. If not, you have to be experienced enough to locate and download them yourself.
But what you propose is very possible... just go to the HP site for your HP model, and look for what operating systems are supported.
Need suggestions for system temp / fan speed monitoring software. Doesn't need to be fancy - just basics - & work.
Special ordered this Pavilion d5200t ATX - didn't come w/ any monitoring util. Was told by HP they didn't have one & AFATK, Intel didn't. If ASUS has one, couldn't find it. Seems odd.
HP support gave this link http://download.famouswhy.com/asus_p5k64_ws_asus_ai_suite_1_02_04/ , which they said "should work." Haven't tried it. Bit leery. Comments?
MB - Asus IPIBL-TX (HP: Burbank-GL8E)

If need other specs, let me know. Thanks.
This is my preferred software for temp/voltage/fan readings and monitoring
Hope it helps
I have a HP Pavilion DV1000.Every time I power the laptop the power light and few other light on the top comes on and it goes off again.

My daughter's HP Pavilion Artist's Edition laptop is continually defaulting to a black screen after booting up.
We updated the nvidia driver, but to no avail. She's running Vista Home Premium.
Any ideas how we can cure this? Safe mode doen't seem to help, I also started it without battery in. HP don't really want to know now it's out of warranty, but I see on their site there has been a recall of some similar models for a video card fault.
I don't know what else to try.

I have a hp pavilion dv6000 laptop and I need a new wireless card as my laptop won't connect to wireless networks (except the one in my university ) . I have 2 questions
1) what kind of card do I need to buy to replace what I have
2) can I replace my wireless card by myself?
you shouldn't need a card if you get connectivity to at least 1 network.
You have an encryption issue. You should be able to connect to open networks.
hi i'm haveing an issue with my laptop it won't come on or charge and its not the cord or the battery the power switch works and the hard drive is good and so is the ram any ideas out there i could use the help thanks all
The power jack connector on laptops are soldered (internally) to the motherboard. If the solder connection should break, power can't be delivered (internally) to power the battery or run the computer.
You might try it yourself (see here) if you're comfortable doing so or you'll need to take it to a repair shop
Hi everyone I recently purchased a HP Pavilion DV EA from ebay UK The seller stated the Laptop was to months old and as HP offer year warranty I assumed or months warranty should remain Shouldn t HP have this on there system As soon as I received the laptop I contacted HP about the warranty and they said it was DV3500 Pavilion HP ending on the next day day after I received the laptop which was the HP Pavilion DV3500 Thursday th November I asked the seller about this and the response I got was that the laptop was a replacement as the first one broke and that therefore the laptop should still have several months left on the warranty HP said without any supporting evidence they can not do anything the seller yesterday email to tell me that they could not find any paperwork confirming this I have the original HP box here which has a delivery label addressed to the seller from the delivery company which has a date on it would this suffice to get the remaining warranty reinstated What else can I do any suggestions nbsp

It isn't the wattage that is important as much as it is the quality of the power supply. Get a good one as opposed to a cheap or no-name brand, unless you already have a good one such as Seasonic, OCZ, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, or one of the other top models.. The video card is fine.

I have purchased an HP pavilion dv6820ea off Amazon marketplace without a power adapter. I was informed it was easy to find and eventually bought this charger off ebay. However it prooved not to fit and I was wondering if anyone can tell me the specs of the charger I need? All I can find specifically on the data sheet is that it needs to be 90w.
Even better if someone could link to a right charger I'd be appreciative.
I'm in the uk but an link showing the correct spec would be nice!
Thanks in advance,
I've got a bit more info...
I'm fairly sure I need a 19v, 4.74a charger and a 4mm external diameter connection is a bit (but not massively) too big.

i want to replace stock card with wireless n card in my laptop
What is the stock card? How old is this HP Pavilion? I don't see any references to a stock card on the HP site, or a wireless socket.
Looks as if you will have to install a PCMCIA wireless card. Easy enough, and low in cost.
i have problem with my laptop the screen is blank, but it work perfectly with an external monitor,i therefore assume the screen is faulty.replaced the new screen have not resolved the issue.Anybody has got any ideal i would be appriciated.
was the screen replaced with the correct make and model...?
Did you change the inverter over from the old board or did it come with one, (inverter: a small board usually across the bottom of the screen)
when you fitted the board did you make sure you seated all the conenctions properly..

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.
I have about 46% unused on the disk.
When I switch from aol to internet explorer it takes so much time.
In fact, even when I go to "my documents", task manager, and every
other application it moves so slow I can get up and wash dishes or
something. Also when I switch applications it takes time for the screen
to load..........the screen moves slowly from the top of the screen to
the bottom. I have had a few alerts, saying I am low on vitural memory.
Question: Are there things I can do to spead this tank up?
Thanks for your time,
How much ram does your computer have? There is a chance it may be faulting, but let's check out other areas first. Do you run security software? How big is your pagefile? Do you defrag you harddrive often? (once / week recommended). Try these links...
Also, one more thing, what operating system does it have? Do you have the o/s CD to reload the o/s and start fresh?

I recently tried to upgrade my RAM from 1 gig to 2 gig purchased from Edge Tech. When I installed it and tried to reboot, the picture on the monitor was fuzzy and wavy---it stuck in the boot phase...starting over several times but never fully booting. I tried switching slots and got the computer to come on but it locked up soon after. When I removed the new RAM and reinstalled the old RAM it worked fine...any advice?
it would be great if you posted the mobo and what RAM your running. is this a single 2 gb card, 2x 1GB?

What the hell is wrong with my Monitor?
Was working fine then yesterday boom i get this!
What does an external monitor look like when you attach one?
I have a new HP Pavilion Elite m9517c-b, has MS VISTA 64bit on it. The integrated sound (monitor connect to hard drive) just sucks.
I would like to keep my old speakers from my Sony Vaio VGC-RA810G system, the speakers are RealtekŪ AC'97 and I can still download the drivers from Sony.
I would hate to have to buy a new speakers set, especially since the Sony set has such excellent sound.
Would this work? why or why not?
Yes you can use the old Sony speakers. The Realtek sound drivers are for a computers motherboard, not for external speakers... The Sony sound drivers may not work on the HP
i have a hp pavilion ze4600 and the bios is asking me for a password. however i read some things on this site concerning hash codes and stuff like that. idon't know how to get a hash code or how you go about to generating them or even how to insert it and bypass the bios password. i would really appreciate it in advance and hope that i could get a positive result on this issue.
please help if you can!
Hi I am having the same trouble. To access your hash code when the blue box comes up and asks for the password press the F12 key and this will generate your systems hash code.
as you may already know, i got this HP Pavilion DV9000 LCD hinges at
and i want to fix it up.
the lcd swivel hinge is quite good and doesn't wobble at all
the open and close part of the hinge is tight enough that the lid will stay open and not close on itself, but it is rather wobbly and floppy. there is a high degree of bend before you actually feel the resistance of the hinge
my question is:
is there a tutorial somewhere or does someone know how to tighten this hinge?
Good afternoon everyone. Just need a few suggestions on a problem I am having diagnosing an issue with an HP Pavilion dv600 laptop. I believe it's just a dead hard drive but want to be sure.
When turning the laptop on, i hear a light screeching sound coming from the hard drive area. In addition, when going to the boot menu, it only recognizes the CD/DVD rom drive and when I go into setup and go to the Diagnostics tab, it says that there is no IDE, so I'm not able to run the diagnostics on the hard drive. The last issue that I'm not sure is related to the hard drive is that the laptop just repeatedly restarts itself after a minute or two of booting up and then sometimes won't come on unless you press the power button at least 3 or 4 times.
HP Pavilion DV6000
AMD Turion 64
It is very common for laptop hard drives to fail like this. You have really no choice but to replace the hard drive first. Hopefully the motherboard is ok... Another option is to take the laptop in for a diagnosis. If you deside to replace the hard drive yourself, make sure you know if the drive is a SATA or IDE type
I have a HP Pavilion 6500 that has recently started shutting down for no reason. I have had it completely apart, cleaned and inspected every part. Everything looks good and when I put it back together it worked fine for about 6 hours then shut down again with no warning or error message. When I attempt to restart, it comes on for about 2 seconds and shuts off again. (On battery, battery w/adapter and adapter only) Even when it has sat overnight or for a couple of days and should be completely cool. Someone in another thread mentioned processor protection in the BIOS. How do I check that? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Ram can go bad, i would do a thorough test on the ram.... I use the ultimate Boot CD. It's free and it has some pretty good tests on the cd.
I got a laptop from a friend recently. Its an HP pavilion dv6500. They tripped over a USB cord and it fell on the ground and wouldn't turn on. They then took it to a local repair shop who told them they needed a new mobo. They put the new mobo in and still had the same problem. When you push the power button all the lights along the dash come on, and the fan and cdrom start up but no beeps and then it just like stalls out. the screen stays black, no ext video nothing, but the lights stay on. I have tested most of the components and all work, everything leads to the motherboard but that was replaced. any advice is greatly appreciated.
I'd say faulty new motherboard, but it could be as simple as the Power Adapter
Here's the Tutorial: No POST (Power On Self Test) guide

Hey guys I have an HP Pavilion DV7-1130 with Windows Vista Home. Lately the fan in the back has started making all sorts of annoying noises and has been a real pain in the ***. I was just wondering if there was a way to get it to shut the hell up without actually opening the computer. I'll do that if I have to, but is it possible to set up RivaTuner or another such program such that I could just turn off the fan?
All fans in laptops are critical components. The noisy fan needs to be replaced, not defeated
Woke up this morning to continue with my work on the above machine but it simply wont boot. The battery is fully charged and the charging adapter is okay because it worked on another computer. When I press the power button of the computer nothing happens. No fan sound no picture, absolutely nothing except that the power LED flickers for a second and that's all. The machine is barely a year old and I have not experienced this before. Have tried reseating the memory cards; removed and inserted the battery all to no avail. Please help. Bosunojay

Hi, i got a pavilion dv6000 and damn the graphics are too low. am running vista home prenium and got 4g ram... what could be the reason?
How old is this HP and when did the graphics issue start?
I have a Hp Pavilion dv6604nr entertainment Notebook laptop PC running Vista Home Premium and am looking into upgrading my ram to speed my computer. I wanted to upgrade to 2gb or 4 gb. I am wondering if, a)can my laptop support 4gb,? b)will it help speed up my computer? I sometimes play older games on it, such as the sim 2 and age of pirates, but mostly I am looking to speed up my overall speed of my computer which tends to slow down alot during regular activites, or if I am to much open.
-Thanks, any information is appreciated =)
Your Pavilion dv6604nr will accept a total of 4096 MB or memory in 2 banks of 1. It normally was shipped with 1 MB in two 512 MB modules.
You need two modules of 2GB: DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2 GB per slot... Unbuffereed, Non-ECC, 1.8V 256 meg X 64 667, CL-5
But if you have Windows XP, it will only see and use 3 to 3.5 GB, depending on the motherboard it has.
You will need to take out your two 512 MB modules and sell them someplace... they do not have much of a market.
You should be able to buy these 2 GB modules for $22 to $27 each... the old 512 MB will sell for only $5 or less.
Www.Crucial.com, www.directron.com, www.zipzoomfly.com, www.newegg.com are some of the places where you can find the memory at lower cost than others.
Hi all having successfully cleansed said laptop from various nasties thanks in part to Kimsland and Bobbye i have an issue with the admin login Ok when booting up xp is set to fast user switching and the welcome screen login screen with user accounts Administrator is not included in the list So i hit ctrl alt del twice which then brings up the secure login dialog box So i key in Administrator and the Pavilion DV1000 login? HP admin password that i set and it comes up with quot Unable to log you on HP Pavilion DV1000 admin login? because of an account restriction quot WTF is that The only way i can log in as admin is to reboot into safe mode when it presents itself as another user in the welcome screen list giving in total which quite frankly is ridiculous The main reason the lappy was infected was due to uneducated users installing all kinds of crap as their accounts had admin rights I need to restrict them to limited accounts whilst having full access to the admin account without the need to reboot into safe mode I ve google searched for answers but couldn t find any I m looking for a way to solve this issue so with respect please don t come back with workarounds like quot press shift right-click run as kind of suggestions because i m after full access to admin account without rebooting So any help you can offer would be most appreciated thanks nbsphttp://www.techspot.com/community/topics/hp-pavilion-dv1000-admin-login.121078/

it will not speed up things if you post one topic twice!
I have an HP Pavillion Laptop dv800 and I bought it maybe over 2 years ago. But recently, it has been encountering some problems (monitor wise). It would turn on fine, all programs are fine... but the monitor would occasionally choke and twitch. and now, when I physically move the laptop monitor.. it would twitch insanely with a black choking screen with some colors in it.
What should I do? Is this solvable? or should i just get a LCD Screen Laptop replacement?
It's called an LCD display, not a monitor. Speaking of a monitor, try connecting a external monitor to the laptop
I have an HP Pavilion(P4 socket 478) that I am working on right now. A friend gave me the fairly scavenged remains of a Dell Dimension 3000 for parts. It also was a socket 478 P4.
Could anybody tell me if the parts are interchangable? The mobo and CPU from the Dell are intact and could be a decent upgrade to my HP if possible.
You could look up specifically the specifications of your HP product (via S/N) by going to THIS thread
Same applies to Dell computers (via Service Tag) on THIS thread
ie There is a maximum CPU limit on processor specifications, but initially it looks interchangeable
My computer is an HP Pavilion a818n and it has been running fine until one month ago where the computer will randomly restart without warning. I can be on the internet, typing up an essay, or playing a game or so. The screen will turn black and randomly restart with no error display. I reinstalled Windows XP and got rid of every program to see if that would fix it but apparently did not do a thing. Now when i try to reinstall some of my programs I had, it wont complete the installation and just restart in the middle of it. I don't think its a heat problem or a virus problem either. HELP PLEASE! if you need more information on the computer, please request.
Can be faulty Ram. Try Memtest for 7 Passes
Can be faulty HardDrive, Try Drive Diagnostics
Can even be internal dust (heat build up) Try cleaning out all dust
Or it may be that all drivers have not been loaded. Try updating all drivers

Ebay is probably the best place to try and find the adapter.

What is your thoughts on this laptop?
Do you think it would be able to run practically all games available now?
If any laptop can allow you to play most games, this one looks good... It is unrealistic to expect most laptops to match a desktop computer when it comes to modern gaming performance
I have a hp pavilion DV5000, I had the hard drive crash. I got a new hard drive same manufactuer as the original it is just larger. I can't get the computer to recognize the new hard drive that I just installed. Please Help
Go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer, and download their drive setup software. Most drive manufacturers, except Toshiba, have setup software.
Otherwise, you benefit from using a full Windows disc rather than the recovery disk that came with the HP Pavilion... though it is do-able.
OEM drives you buy without the box and setup disk just take a little more experience because it needs a low level format or a manufacturer setup.
The download from the drive manufacturer's web site also comes with instructions on what to do.
Then of course the original hard drive crash may have been some other problem to begin with.

This might not be easy because I don't think that HP uses the ATX form factor. Many of the motherboards mentioned here are ATX boards, which has holes in certain places that match the back board it rests on. I'll have to look deeper into this one.
If your power supply unit is below 450 watts, you may need to upgrade.
Many people say it's useless to upgrade the video card on a Hp Pavilion like mines because it only accepts PCI cards. I'm not looking for any expensive high-tech cards, just something that can Handle COunter-Strike:Source.
Honestly, your best bet would be to buy a new computer, if you were going to run CS:S on a system like this, you would have to upgrade video as well as some memory... There are no "good" video cards for a PCI slot, and the memory in that system isnt all that great...
Also Check: The STICKY at the top of Audio and Video: So you only have PCI slots and want to game?
having problems with not being able to upgrade my video card i bought an NVidia GeForce FX SERIES 6600 512MB but i can't figure out if i have a slot for this thing if i do it has no female plug to push into it has holes for a female push plug and some slots that look like fax modem slots i am unable to locate my video card the plugs are vertical for the monitor and serial i don't know if there is just wires run up there or what but i can't figure it out someone help!
Sorry, but you have wasted your money!! The hp pavilion a705w has pci slots only and the NVidia GeForce FX SERIES 6600 512MB is a pci express graphics card!! (pci and pci express are 2 entirely different types of slots)
Even if it did fit, the pathetic little psu in the pavilion wouldn't be able to power it!!
Hi guys, it's getting a little hard to find some of the drivers for this pavilion 6721la laptop...do someone of you guys have the complete audio driver for this model, for windows xp to share with me? or, does someone know about a url where i can find it?
thanks in advance.
have you looked at hp's support site? looked at the drivers they offer for this model?
Hp Pavilion running XP Pro keeps shutting off after running a short while. Thought it might be a virus so began to do a clean install of XP Pro. It shut off shortly into this process. Any ideas?
Do you get a "Blue Screen" before it shuts down? How old is the computer?
a few days ago i changed from windows vista system to the old xp sp2 system...it runs better on my laptop....but i had trouble getting the lan driver for it...it seems i can only find it for the vista system.....Could any of you guys help me out finding this driver for XP?
hmm...by the way, XP detected my audio driver as a conexant audio card, but i cant get the microphone working...I guess the driver in xp sp2 doesnt fits the actual hardware of the audio card so, if any of you knows where to find the correct audio driver for it, i will apreciate it
thanks in advance,
Have you tried the HP software update tool sp38874.exe 1/1 (2.53M) found on the driver list for that laptop?
Very recently my computer has been crashing with the jagged lines of death. After it reboots, the screen becomes split up into multiple "instances" of one screen, very similar to if you select the "tiled" option in windows background. Example:
| Normal| Normal Image|
| Image | |
| | |
______ _________ |
|Normal | Normal Image|
|Image | |
Where the box around the outside is my monitor, and four "normal" images (i.e. the desktop, mouse cursor, etc.). No idea what is causing this, however, uninstalling then reinstalling the graphics drivers seems to temporarily fix this. If anyone has heard of a similar problem or knows what to do, please help!
HP Pavilion dv2500 series
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 64MB Dedicated Video Memory (from nvidia control panel info)
Centrino Core2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0 GHZ
Windows Vista 32Bit Home Premium
this is videochip faulty(or video memory). afaik, since geforce 8400go, nvidia provides special MXMII videocards in most laptop models. so replacing seems to be simple, but in this model you can't do this. so you can replace MB or repair it
i have an hp pavilion dv5000 and at first i had a "blue screen" problem so my friend thought reformatting my hard drive will help but no i have no OS and when i try to put one in it says like "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system" please help i dont know what to do
How did you friend reformat the HDD?
1. Under Windows
2. Under Windows Setup
