Sims 2 expansion packs

Q: Sims 2 expansion packs

I have successfully loaded the sims 2 on my e drive. When loading sims 2 expansion packs on the e drive , when I get to the final step of inserting the 4th disc of theoriginal sims 2 to finish off the installation I am told that 'can't read disc' despite the 4th disc previously being OK. I have previously had all sims 2 expansion packs work happily on my computer. The problem is trying to load them onto the e drive. Is there a particular way of creating folders within the e drive that would help?At tthe moment its like expansion packs can't find original sims 2 to 'talk to'.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's been a while since I've posted but I've obtained most of the Sims 2 and I TRIED to install Double Deluxe but for some reason my dvd drive isn't recognizing the disc. It spins up and tries to read it, but doesn't do much in the line of effort to read it.
There are no scratches and I took care of the smudges with a cloth. Still unable to read the install disc. It'll read the promo/bonus disc and play it just fine though.
The computer is a Windows 7 with an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GT60N Drive.
I have enough RAM, Graphics and other things to run it.
300 Gigs of Space left on the HDD. No idea what's going on here.

A:Sims 2 Double Deluxe problems

You might have a bad optical drive. Does it work with other DVDs (DVDs not CDs)? Do you have access to another DVD drive with which to substitute for testing purposes?

LG Australia has revealed a new FreeSync monitor on their website perhaps a little earlier than the company anticipated, and it could be a great option for gamers wanting to upgrade to a 4K display.

4 way split? That's pretty cool. I know other monitors have done it (though none immediately come to mind) but very cool nevertheless. It might not be an IPS type panel but that's not a bad price all things considered.

Can anybody Help Me !!

I have set up a Server type machine on a HP Touchsmart running Vista

I have purchased a Seagate 2TB Expansion Drive with its own power source

I desperately want to know how this external drive can be seen by other devices on the network

I have other external drives with their own power supply and non of them can be accessed by other computers on the network....Is there a trick to these devices!!!

I have external hard drives with NO power supply just USB connection and I can access them from any computer on the network and any media device on the network

I'm not very technical and would like to know if its just the type of device and I should be buying usb connected hard drives for music and movies

A:External Expansion Drive with own power supply

You need a router that has a USB connection. Then you can connect the external storage to the network. That is only for a USB drive though. Do you have one of those passport drives with a battery?

Okay so I have the Corsair Force GT Series 120GB SSD. Its port's are Sata 3 and well my motherboard is a MSI Pro-E long story short it does not have a sata 3 port. So my question is there anything out there I can buy that does have a sata 3 port like something that will hook on the PCI slot's or something. I basically dont wanna have to buy a new mother board but I still wanna get the amazing speeds because right now im getting half its peformance anyways please write back soon. If you give me a link to a product I prefer www.newegg.com and my max budget is $50.

Hi guys, new to the forum. My PC specs are on my profile.

So, I have had no problems playing certain .avi video files on my computer, but this evening, for no apparent reason, I tried to play a video and it wouldn't play. Other videos still play, but the ones from my camera do not.

I thought this could have been a codec issue, so I downloaded the latest K-lite Mega codec pack and installed it, but to no avail. An error message came up on Media Player Classic, which can be found here:

A:Seagate expansion hard drive not showing on computers

Sounds like the drive has failed as you had been getting warning signs with the I/O errors and now it has stopped working. There is a possibility that it is just the circuitry in the housing so you may be able to get it going again with a new housing. You could first test the drive by removing it from the housing and hooking it up to the internal connections of a desktop PC or by using a USB adapter.

A:Sims 3 won't run and would like to upgrade to Windows 7

1.5gb of Ram when using vista isn't enough to run the game because Vista uses alot more memory just to run the operating system, i would use atleast 2gb even if you upgrade to windows 7 becasue it will just run alot smoother in general. Your old graphips chip should handle sims fine if it is capatiple with the game.

Hello, basically i have been able to play the sims 2 on this same computer since the week it came out, as i brought it then, yesterday however, i was cleaning up the computer by uninstalling certian things that were making the computer slow.
I do not think i uninstalled anything relevant to the graphics card but im guessing i could have unknowingly done so. Im getting the same error that alot of people have but still havent been able to fix it.
The error says that it failed to find any directX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in the system.
Helllllllllp pleaseee?

Also im using windows XP and my graphics card is fine as the Sims has been playing on it before alongside with various other games.
I have tried changing the hardware acceleration section but that was full anyway so i couldnt change it.
& i have downloaded directx9.0c but that didnt change anything.

My daughter used to be able to play all these games, I was running Vista but they installed Windows XP when they re-did my computer. My graphics info is a Trident Video Accelerator 96XX/938X. Can you help me?

Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate.

If it worked before, it should work now. You might need to install the latest driver for your Trident graphics as the message said.

Ok, so this is what I've got so far:
ATI Radeon HD 2400, graphics card
DirectX 10
Deamontools lite
Various the sims2 games
Processor of 3,18 Ghz
Newly downloaded the upgraded driversystem for the graphics card even. (something with catalyst)
So can anyone tell me how come I still get the same message that my graphics card and directx isn't compatible? 'Cause I'm about to give up.

Oh, and if anyone does answer me, I'd appreciate a message that's understandable since I'm not so good with "computer-talk"

Thanks alot anyway^_^

ok, so here's my problem:
i bought the sims 2 a while ago. it worked for me right off the bat. i had no problems until i moved. it was literally like one day everything was running smoothly with my game and then the next day, it stopped working and said that it couldn't detect the directx 9.0c compatible graphics adaptor and to make sure that it was installed. i looked, and it IS installed. everything else on the computer works just fine. i did that thing where you go on to the EA EasyInfo page and it tells you what the problem is. it says that i have 0.0 display memory and i need 32.0. i have no idea how to fix this. can somebody help me please?

So up until a few days ago, my computer and the Sims was working just fine, but now when i try and start the Sims 2 Nightlife it says "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics addapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."
I'm really not sure what to do. If someone could please please message me or answer to this thread and i can send you some information about my computer, or tell me what i need to post so that you can help me, i just don't want to post something about my computer that could lead to me being hacked or something because I'm not so sure what to post.
Please get back to me ASAP, that would be great.
Thanks so much!

Could you post your system spec please, we could do with knowing what system you are running.

Use this to find your system spec.
Belarc Advisor - http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Or if it is a Retail Comp could you tell us which like for example Dell.

So since you installed the Expansion Pack it hasn't been working?
There is a increase in the Spec Requirement between the Original and that Expansion Pack.
The most likely cause is you haven't got a supported Graphics card.

A:Sims 2 Problem

You misread the error message. It isn't saying you lack DirectX 9.0c. It says you lack a graphics adapter that is compatible with DirectX 9.0c. That usually means you have an onboard (built in) graphics chip that isn't supported by the game. You would have to install a compatible graphics card.

I've just installed Sims 2 on an older system that my grandpa gave me, but with a brand new monitor and I know nothing about graphics cards. I keep getting an error saying "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system!"

I would just go in and try to auto update my drivers, but I don't have internet access on that computer--I have to download things from another computer and transfer them over on flash drive or DVD. I have a Dell Dimension L700cx and I believe the graphics card is an Intel 82810E Graphics Controller. My moniter is an HP w17e if that makes any difference.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thank you!

If the graphics card is an Intel 82810E Graphics Controller u do not have DirectX 9.0c, the only way for u to play games is to get a video card.

Using Internet Explorer browser go here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Select Option 2

Select either Graphics Drivers (for a plugged in card) or Motherboard Drivers (for onboard Video)

Re-Download the full driver package

Re-install the full driver package (actually it is advised to remove the old one first, through Add/Remove programs)

For further help:

Please put your System Specs in your Profile

If you have a proprietory computer like Dell; HP; Acer etc, please manually write this in the mobo field (ie Dell Dimension 3100 - as an example)

Hi. I built a new computer and the Sims 2 keeps crashes and restarts. Can some one help me. I have:

ASUS p5n32-e sli plus
Intel core 2 6300
1022mb ram
2 Nvidia GeForce 7600gt sli 256mb (pci-e)
SoundMAX hd audio card
DirectX 9.0c

I can play Doom 3, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4 all on high. I just can't play Sims 2. I have the lastest drivers.

Do I need a better card.

A:can't play sims 2 on a Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT

If you can play those other games without crashes or problems, it's quite possible you have another problem... likely northbridge or cpu temp/voltage issue. Sims 2 is more cpu & memory intensive than most games.

I'd start by downloading and running Asus's Probe II software and let this run on the desktop while trying Sims 2. This will allow you to monitor your CPU temp, voltages and system ambient temps. With good cooling, neither temp should ever go over 50C.. with ambient temps >50C may be a sign of an overheating Northbridge (occasional problem on that series motherboard, but easy to fix).

Lastly, does this problem occur when you run single-card vs. SLI? This would be the next test to see if it's a profile/NVIDIA driver problem with SLI + Sims 2. If it works fine in single-card mode, you should report this issue on the NV forums in hopes of a fix in drivers.

High guys, i have this PC model, which is great for me as its small and allows me to hook up my TV box to it, so i can watch tv through my PC.
However, I would love to be able to play some of the high end games which require a good graphics card, so I am looking for a slimline model with a single expansion plate (I have no idea what that means!)
I currently have the NVIDIA Geforce 5700VE which is just not good enough. So I was wondering if someone could help me out finding a really good graphics card that would fit the requirements of my Aopen XC cube.
Thanks!

If you used the newest graphics driver available today, you probably have the wrong one installed. The latest (7.1) as of today, doesn't support the 9200 series any longer. You should go back to 6.5.

Hi
I have Sims 2 but every time I try to play it, a messege comes up saying:

"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a direct X9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

I am not using a big company made computer but we had 2 like this and on the other 1 Sims2 worked. When I started using this computer I cleaned it of its unnecessary programs and i think I may have deleted the driver but...

Any Help??

Hi, right, like a lot of people I have found on the web I am wanting to play The Sims 2 but am having graphics card problems. I have an Intel graphics card a 82915G Express Chipset Family to be exact. I checked and the card is compatible but I am still unable to play the game so now I just figure, hey, I might as well get a new graphics card so I need to know if a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 is compatible with my system or whatever. And also, how the hell do I go about installing it. I appreciate any replys and advice because I am very frustrated.

Thanks.

Edit: Please use proper thread titles from now on. Thanks.

A:I am wanting to play The Sims 2 but am having graphics card problems.

Hi, we need more system information as we'll need to know what kind of video slot you have available, be it PCI, AGP or PCI-Express.

If you have an OEM model PC, such as a Sony, Dell, Gateway or HP- the make/model would suffice. Otherwise you may wish to look up Everest and run this as it will retrieve some system information we'll need to give insights on the best upgrade for your system.

As far as an FX5200 goes, I'd strongly urge against this unless it's your only option. There are other budget cards available that will yield substantially greater performance and compatibility for most system.

I have an intel 865 motherboard. I am using a sound card audigy zs and have it plugged into a PCI expansion slot. Each time i have opened my computer my sound card stops working and i have to change the PCI expansion slot to make it work again. After that it stops working on that slot, i am down to my 3rd slot out of 4 to hook my sound card up to since the first two dont work for the sound card anymore. I am totally confused by this situation any help will be appreciated if you need more info pls let me know....

A:Help with losing PCI Expansion Slots

Well, The sound card may be frying evrything it gets into. Is this a new card, or have you had it for a while? Check to see if you can still use those pci slots for anything else, because like I said before, its probably frying the slots. Which means you may need to get a new soundcard, and a new motherboard(but both may be under warrenty, so dont worry to much)

A:Will the Sims 2 work with an Integrated SIS Mirage2 Graphics Card?

the SIS Mirage2 Graphics Card is a lackluster card that will not run your game (well).

ps- the machine i'm probably going to buy is from Office Max. it's the compaq presario sr1538X-B desktop pc bundle. it's about $800.Click to expand...

not only is this computer oem, but it is a low performance machine. i strongly advise you to get a custom job available at a pc repair/sales shop near you, if there are any. if you want to know what to ask for, say so in your reply. even dells are better than compaq...

I typed in the boolProp Testingcheatsenabled true cheat code, then I noticed the game wasn't playing ANY sound effects or music or ANYTHING!
What should I do to get my sound back?? Please help me!!

A:I typed in a cheat code for Sims 2...... now my sound won't work!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First of all check in device manager for any yellow question or exclamation marks next to your audio devices.

If there are any, then try reinstalling your sound drivers.

If that checks out ok, then maybe doing a system restore to a point before you entered the cheat code may help.

If that still doesn`t work, then maybe uninstalling the game and reinstalling it will solve the problem.

A:SIMS 2 and Directx 9.0 graphics adapter

The situation with Sims2 is as follows.

1 you need DirectX9.0c installed on your computer.

2 you need a graphics card that is capable of supporting directX9.0c.

3 the driver for the graphics card must also support DirectX9.0c.

What card are you using?

What are your system specs?

Look at the games system requirements to see if it will run on your system.

How have you set graphics options in the game?

You could also try adjusting Direct3D settings to "Best performance" in display settings (the settings are buried there somewhere in Detonator drivers).

Do the following (if you haven't already):

2. Check the amount of space on your harddrive

3. Run virus/malware/antivirus scans

Dude, step 1, cover your ***. It's not your fault that he has one single copy of critical files. His system is FUBAR, everything you do is under the expectation that the customer is clear that it's his own risk. Get this is written form if you can (email).

As for suggestions, I'd copy the files across to a portable HDD, then make sure all files are clean. Proceed to do a clean install of XP, because who runs SP1 ....

Then put files back to a fresh system.

Customer has two options:
1. Highly risky operation to attempt repair, will take unknown time, may not even work, high $$$.
2. Perform extraction of data, clean install. Fairly static time and $$$.

Using Office Premium 2000 in Vista x64.
Already installed SR-1a & SP-3.

There's a Office File Converter Pack (OCONVPCK.EXE) applicable to Office 2000, to allow opening / saving files in formats from Word 97 and Office 2003.

Another pack, MS Office Compatibility Pack for Office 2007 also allows Office 2K, 2003 to use files saved in Office 2007 format.

Read requirements for both & believe I met them all.
Researched MS support extensively & saw nothing saying these 2 packs can't be installed at same time. AFAIK, their functions don't overlap.

Installed the File Converter Pack for Office '03 first - went OK.
Tried to install the 2007 Compatibility Pack next & gave error message:

Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version, use Add / Remove Programs.Click to expand...

Barring hardware failure, I'd say with 19 viruses you should reinstall, then go update your software from MS and plug those holes.

Also, check to see if your system meets the specs for playing Sim2. From what I recall it has some pretty hefty requirements.

A:Sims 2 refuses to run on graphic card

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

What graphics card do you have?

Here are the Sims 2 system requirements.

Minimum System Requirements for The Sims 2

If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:

* 800 MHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:

* 2.0 GHz processor or better
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

Get the most current driver for your video card. The manufacturers usually have the video drivers on their sites for you to download. Visit the nVidia site, the ATI site or the support site for your computer's manufacturer for the latest drivers for those video cards.

Supported video cards (and the more video memory the better):

* ATI RadeonTM series (7000 or better)
o Radeon 7000/VE series (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
o 7200, 7500
o 8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
o 9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
o X300, X600, X800

* Nvidia® QuadroTM series
o Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

* Nvidia® Geforce series (GeForce2 and better)
o GeForce2
o GeForce3, 3 Ti
o GeForce4, 4Ti, MX 420, 440
o GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
o GeForce 6600, 6800

* Intel® Extreme Graphics (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
o 82845, 82865, 82915

If your system doesn`t meet the above requirements, you will need to upgrade your graphics card.

A:Common Sims 2 Problems

FAQ (continued):
Q. When I try installing the new Sims 2 I am told that I need to insert a disk in the drive even though the disc is already in the drive. What's wrong?
A. This has been a common problem. Nine times out of Ten, the cd is faulty, usually because of the protection on the CD. Try exchanging the game for another one. Sometimes you just have to restart the computer with the disc in the drive, then try to install. If that does not work, ensure you are using "Disc 1" or refer to what I said in the beginning.

I have tried everything and anything to re-install service packs that disappeared after a factory reset on Vista Home Premium. Have tried all suggestions. I keep running into "system requirements" issues, that I never had before the reset.

A:Service packs

Here's what it takes for a computer to be able to run Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919183

Will microsoft continue to host the patches and service packs for XP after 4/8/2014? Would the automatic downloads work? Would we need to manually download them? I searched and could not find a direct answer. What happens if one would like to re-install the software after that date? thank you.

Hello veerboa,

Although the following seems to be addressed to Enterprise customers, all your questions are answered in the FAQ section toward the end.  It is the page linked to from Microsoft Security Essentials, running with the latest updates on an XP system:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/end-of-support.aspx

In short, you can still install, activate and update XP installations, via Windows Update, even after 8 April 2014.

I have installed a fresh version of windows XP on my mothers computer.
When I try to install windows service packs or internet explorer I get the same error message:

The procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll

Does any one know what I need to do to fix this problem.

Thanks.

A:Trouble installing windows service packs

Hi,

Do you know what is the windows xp service pack level you have installed now?

Did the windows installation run fine without any errors?

Hello

I have a problem with my seagate 2tb external hard drive.
when i connect the usb, i can hear it whizzing and the light flashes, but nothing comes up on the computer.

i have tried changing cables and adapters with no luck.
ive tried changing usb ports with no luck

ive tried going into disk management and it doesnt show up there either.

ive also downloaded the sea tools after googling the problem but nothing shows up there.

i recently transfered everything from a computer i sold over to the hard drive. i wanted to transfer it over to a second backup hard drive today but with no luck.

on he last use of the hard drive i did disconnect with the remove hardware safely option.

anyone give any suggestions please...

A:2TB Seagate Expansion light flashing but not recognised

1. Does the computer read other USB drives or is it only this drive a problem?

2. Did you try connecting this expansion drive to another working computer?

I recently upgraded to windows 10. I purchased a 5TB Seagate External to back up my computer, and Windows is telling me there is not enough disk space for me to back up 900Gigs. Seems a bit odd.  I have tried everything I can think of, but still I get
the "BackUp Failed " error message.

The computer says the drive has 4.54 TB unused, but still not enough space for backup and system image?  What gives?

Please help.
