Preferred Solution: Need help, computer games freezing!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

A:Freezing Computer when on some games

What specific graphics card do you have and which driver is installed? Do you have the correct DirectX version for your games? What brand and wattage is your power supply? What games are causing trouble? Is anything in particular happening during the games when they freeze, like loading scenes, playing cutscenes, heavy action, explosions or whatever. Does your system even meet the minimum requirements for these games. If so, have these games run okay before and now they aren't?

BTW, instead of restarting the whole PC, aren't you able to use the Task Manager to exit the games?

Hi, I just started having problems where when I play a video game it freezes on me, and won't let me do anything forcing me to manual shutdown through the tower button. I looked up reasons on why this may happen, I see overheating sometimes is a problem, and it doesn't seem to be overheating, sometimes it continues to play but just freezes again. I also read somewhere sometimes it's something to do with the sound or something being off? I'm not sure what it is, and what it's doing. I'd just like some feedback on what to check and do to try and solve this problem.

A:New computer keeps freezing while running games. Help.

Had that exact same problem with my computer. The problem was with my PSU. Figured it out by chance. Now im not saying this is your problem, its just what helped sort it on my computer.

After a few months of trouble, I decided to start an upgrade, thinking changing all the main components would solve it.
Since I dont earn much money, I had to get 1 part at a time, and the first thing I got was a ThermalTake TruePower 680w PSU.
For the hell of it, I pluged it into the old computer, and suddenly everything worked perfectly.

Turns out that the PSU I had was failing, in older or lower graphics games, it would work fine, as the computer doesnt use as much power. The moment I try playing anything newer or more powerfull (The Sims 2, WoW, FarCry, etc...) it would crash, with a reboot beeing the only way to get the computer working again.

I would suggest you at least check this out. If you can, try borrow a PSU from a friend, and just check how it works. Just make you sure you get one powerfull enough, a computer with those specs will need something powerfull.

If it works or not, post back.

So, out of nowhere my computer started to freeze fully (no mouse moving, but more like a frozen screenshot)
while I played Heroes of Newerth.. I also tried it with Starcraft 2... same issue...
I did a bunch of tests previously using Geeksquad MRI, but I had no luck...

I also

* RMA'd my videocard in hopes that it would solve the problem, but it didnt...
* Took out 1 stick of ram @ a time to test if that would solve the problem (which it didnt)
* Replaced my Powersupply (didnt fix)

Hello I am new to the forums here and I m not very tech savvy so please bear with me I encountered a problem about a week ago The problem was that my computer kept freezing whenever I played any kind of game such as WoT When I opened up the application games keeps freezing when playing Computer in around the first seconds my computer would freeze prior to opening the game application What the screen would look like is a very pshychodelic screen of a little distorted colors of red and blue along with the colors of the screen Computer keeps freezing when playing games During that freeze my mouse wouldn t move as well as ctrl-alt-dlt so I would have to turn it off by holding on to the start button I turn on my computer again and there would be a bunch of small green vertical dots in the loading screen like something from the matrix but not that many dots I hit f to start my computer has a lot of problems and I go to the screen where it asks me if I would like to go to safe mode or normal mode On that screen the screen is more of a checkered red and black with different random patterns I go to normal mode and enter the loading screen where my windows moving icon starts up On that screen there are a bunch of vertical green lines on the screen The computer however does not load up in that stage and either freezes in a black screen slumber or just restarts Now this would happen to my computer now It was quite different a month ago I think around a month or ago my computer was doing fine and handled games quite well But one day while I was playing my game the computer screen froze and had this psychodelic colors and weird sounds on the screen I did a hard reset and instead of all the weird colors on the boot up screen it worked fined and I just continued my game However I noticed that this problem was reaccurring and grew worse as the days went on Now I m in a situtation where I cant even turn on my computer if I open a game program sometimes my computer would freeze crash instantly when I start windows with no application running Now if I get to the weird colors stage the only way I can start my computer is by clicking windows repair and doing a system restore to a time of working conditions To fix this problem I have done a variety of things First I downloaded a registry fixing program and detected and fixed my registry I thought that did the trick but the next day the same problem persisted I have done a virus scan with MSE microsoft security essentials and another anti virus program with finding nothing I updated a bunch of drivers to see if my drivers were courrupted or something and still my problem persisted I thought it was the driver that was the problem becuase in one of my freezes my computer regained control and the pop up below said there was some problem failure with a nvidia driver cant recall specifically so I updated to the most recent nvidia driver which didnt work so I re-downloaded the original driver and that didnt work either So I dont think the driver is the problem as well Then I thought it might be a heat problem so I opened up my computer and clean off all the dust out of the fans and computers My computer has a total of fans in the computer and directly attached to the nvidia graphics card So even after the cleaning my problems still persisted So my other suspects of the problem is that its a virus the graphics card is toasted the CPU is toasted or something else I really think that my graphics card is dead because the second I run a heavy D application such as games the computer freezes When im running a light application such as this google chrome or just surfing the web it rarely freezes I am also highly suspicious it might be because of a weird program in my computer that always secretly is on when i turn on my computer Its called form and I have no idea what it does so I found out what proccess application it comes from and it comes from a program called Genius exe I went to this Genius exe in the files... You could try testing your memory. Sometimes bad memory can cause issues.
Here's a memory testing program.
http://hcidesign.com/memtest/

Also, an underpowered/cheaply made power supply can also cause problems. Do you know what psu you have (brand/model/specs)?

However windows was not starting up My monitor kept losing video Even running in safe mode it eventually lost video or froze within mins I tried rebooting about times with no luck and sometimes when it crashed it looked like the bios screen was coming up as it said Gigabyte on the top of the screen but then it would lose video So I initially thought either my motherboard or cpu were fried I waited about an hour to try to start it up again and this time it worked The idle temps were normal and everything seemed fine Then I waited a little bit and tried to play world of warships again mins in I checked the CPU temp and it was close to C but about mins later another freeze I didn t get a chance to look at the temp However this time it rebooted fine and did not crash or lose video like before Now here I am trying to find any help on the internet The year warranty is up so i m on my own Here are my specs CPU- AMD FX- ghz GPU- AMD R x GB HIS ICQ Edition OS- Win bit Coolant- Asetek LX MM watercooler Motherboard- Gigabyte GA- FX-UD SLI Crossover DDR SATA AM PS- Azza W Plus Let me know if you need any other specs I can also take a picture of what it looks like inside if that helps at all Also i m not a big computer wiz so please be as simple as possible if that makes any sense Thanks nbsp

A:Computer freezing while playing games?

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Based purely on your explanation so far, the first thing I would be looking at is the Graphics Card (GPU) and cabling, not the motherboard or CPU. You say your CPU was at 60C, what are you using to check that? 60C isn't that bad if it is under load. What are the temps for the GPU like?

Firstly, I assume nothing is overclocked?
Is Windows fully patched and up to date?
Are all your drivers fully patched and up to date?

Some simple first line checks:
1) Double check all your cables and connectors from the PC to monitor are connected properly and securely. Remove and reinsert as necessary.

Your PSU doesn't appear to be a particularly good one, a very quick Google gets me info on an 850w model which only comes with a 2 year warranty, not a good sign. A good quality unit will have a minimum of 5 years warranty and the PSU is an area you really shouldn't go cheap on especially in a gaming machine. Unfortunately a lot of builds to do cheap to bring costs down.

Please download and install Speccy (its free). Run the program then following the instructions below (think they are right) to publish a report to the web, this will give us a lot of information about your system.

1.In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
2.In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
3.Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Hello,

I've had my computer for about a year now, a week ago I was playing Saints Row IV and my computer froze and made a buzzing noise from the speaker.

I immediately turned off the PC and turned it back on.

When I got back on I saw no problems, so I continued playing, 'till it happened again.

I opened up my computer and sure if all the fans worked, and they were, I also went ahead an replaced my thermal paste.

I also did a disk clean up, and a registry clean.

The computer doesn't crash often now, only when I play games for a long period of of time, I also noticed that dxdiag couldnt detect my computers specs and my computer isn't running as fast as it used to.

Any ideas?

"I also did virus scan and got rid of some viruses, I have AVG constantly on."

My computer freezes up on me when i am playing games, both online and offline. I have tried many things to solve the problem but can't seem to fix it. I have a custom pc with a zotac nforce 620i motherboard, nvidia geforce 9500gt 512 mb graphics card, 2 gigs of ram, and dual Intel Pentium E2180 processors at 2GHz each. I have updated all drivers, maxed out the fan on the graphics card, checked for cpu usage and ram space and everything has worked out. I dont know if there is anymore information needed for someone to help me, but if there is just let me know and i'll try to get it. I would really appreciate any help with this problem. Okay Recently while playing my freezing Games random intervals at computer City of Villains my computer just shut down on me Flat out died no chance to reboot wouldn t even power back up Taking it to what passes for a quot repair shop quot here in Kuwait got me the answer that it was probably the motherboard So I bought a new one MSI Platinum ex if memory serves had them install and hook everything up and went home Here s the problem While playing games so far confirmed on both City of Heroes Villains as well as Battlefield my computer will randomly seize up on me forcing a restart Sometimes it ll occur within minutes sometimes half an hour and once or twice not at all at least not within the two hours or so I played I haven t seen this occur outside of gaming although I am also getting periodic start-up crashes - I think that s yet another post subject and it s only been an issue since I Games freezing my computer at random intervals got this new motherboard last Wednesday I pulled apart my computer and checked the wiring I rehooked up power cabling to make Games freezing my computer at random intervals sure that nothing power-hungry was sharing one line and everything was plugged in correctly I reinstalled Windows XP restore not system wipe Games freezing my computer at random intervals and made sure nothing was wonky in my BIOS settings I updated my graphics driver I ran virus adware and spyware checks Norton AdAware and Spybot respectively So my fear is that when my system croaked it may have damaged more than just my motherboard But I m not sure what basic steps I can take to isolate my problem other than what I did above Here are my system specs as best I can remember them MSI Platinum ex motherboard Intel Ghz P with gb RAM MSI nVidia Ultra mb graphics card Thermaltake w power supply GB SATA HD Western Digital I think Some DVD burner - LG I think Internal card reader and firewire port hooked up Four additional fans kicking air throughout the case Two other elements that may be effecting suggesting the problem one as mentioned I m getting start-up failures crashes Once it even mentioned my flash memory I believe it deleted reinitialized it It doesn t crash in a consistent place and it only occurs about of the time maybe less Second issue since the new motherboard install my sound in CoX has been really weird Some elements of attacks don t play at all while others seem unduly loud For example I won t hear the swing of a punch but I ll hear if it connects I updated my sound drivers and the problem still occurs However I m not seeing this problem anywhere else in other games or when playing music movies I suspect I need to reinstall CoX itself but I figured it was worth a mention Thanks in advance You guys are lifesavers In Kuwait quot tech support quot usually means quot making friends with someone who knows computers quot Unfortunately the most computer savvy person in my department is me Scary world nbsp

I have been having this problem infrequently ever since I got my build about two years ago I had a factory PC Hewlett Packard of some kind and then I got all new components and copied info on my old hard help: my computer please but freezing games all Long Post disk to this new system and fresh installed Windows CPU AMD Athlon II X Mainboard MSI -G RAM x GB DDR GPU AMD Radeon HD HDD Seagate TB PSU Rocketfish W The exact problem is this during certain programs I ll Long Post but please help: all games freezing my computer be more specific further on my computer freezes loops the last millisecond of sound if there was sound playing and requires a hard reboot I ve seen this problem posted before but when I followed the advice given to those posters it did not solve my problem What s causing the freezing may be different than others with a similar problem because it is very specific When it does freeze -during games after random amounts of time seems truly random from minutes in to hours -When iTunes is open even if nothing is playing and Long Post but please help: all games freezing my computer my perception is that this happens a little sooner than during games but still at random intervals -If I leave the web browser open for long enough I had to turn off the auto-sleep option to figure this one out it takes hours before it freezes on any site streaming video or just ebay left on idle When it does NOT freeze even after hours or so -If I leave the computer on idle at the desktop -Photoshop CS left on idle -Microsoft Word left on idle -During stress testing of the memory PSU voltage GPU and CPU temperatures used OCCT Prime and Memtest to figure this out What I have tried so far At first I assumed it was a faulty graphics card because my first graphics card was a returned GeForce and there were occasionally artifacts and other graphics-related problems I got the Radeon listed in my build above once I could spare some cash for it about six months ago and that solved the artifacts and other graphics-related issues but the freezing persists That s when I started testing everything I could think of Once I tested enough programs it seemed like a sound-related issue I had a sound card something cheap and standard by SoundBlaster so I uninstalled the drivers took it out of the system and used the sound from the graphics card instead This didn t solve the problem Following the assumption this was sound-related I found a similar problem someone posted in a forum like this one and they said they solved it by disabling the onboard sound for their Motherboard in BIOS I did this in my BIOS but I m still freezing I thought it might be temperatures getting too high but according to CPUID Hardware Monitor they are well below dangerous temps even after a couple of hours of gaming OCCT tested CPU and GPU temps and no freeze After about hours of the OCCT GPU stress test the GPU reached degrees and stopped testing but I understand that the stress test is way harder on the GPU than gaming plus I never play any games for hours I did re-apply thermal paste to the CPU heatsink just in case The factory stuff was pretty bad for my CPU I m told so I got Arctic Silver and applied that a couple of weeks ago following the directions very carefully No change I have updated drivers for pretty much everything Problem occurred prior to updates and continues to occur after What I haven t tried yet I know that my PSU isn t very good and that Rocketfish went out of business etc etc This is a component I should replace eventually but could it be the cause of these particular symptoms The other day I opened iTunes and the first song I played froze my computer after about seconds Could iTunes really be taxing the power supply very much Don t PSU failures usually cause an instant reboot rather than freezing Motherboard diagnostic I don t know much about BIOS or motherboard troubleshooting Someone with a similar problem was instructed to get a new motherboard and she did ... A:My computer is freezing randomly. But only when I'm playing games.

Freezing under games is most likely due to the increased load put on your processor. If your system is overclocked (fairly likely if it is custom-built) then voltages/settings in the bios need to be appropriately adjusted within safe limits to maintain the overclock. If it is not overclocked than the problem could be due to overheating as a result of inadequate cooling. At the very least get the dust bunnies off the inside of your PC and fan filters. Try temporarily running the games with the computer side panel removed, if this helps then inadequate internal airflow is most probably the culprit. These suggestions are oversimplifications but should get you started.

Well about week ago my computer started to freeze every minutes if I got lucky every hour or so although when I started playing games whether it be in fullscreen or windowed mode ie GTA San Andreas my computer would freeze after minutes this never happened before my computer started freezing the day I acquired a virus spyware malware not sure but Ill call it a spyware program it was called 'antivirus soft' I OMFG? computer... fullscreen games... especially Freezing in removed the virus through reformatting my computer since the virus would not let me execute any anti virus program or any other such programs to remove it I tried going into safe mode by forcefully restarting my computer and I tried scanning my computer with AVG and Malware Bytes although my computer kept freezing Also my internet was suspended by my ISP because apparently my computer was infected with a network virus called 'Torpig' I reformatted my computer again after this report I reformatted my computer C Drive and deleted all files off my recovery harddrive D Drive I scanned my computer with AVG and Malware bytes I caught some viruses and apywares and quarantined them but my computer still freezes Now Iam not sure whether Torpig still exists on my computer so I need help on this too Ive found out that the programs I use those that take up alot of ram like games freeze my computer but then again my computer freezes even when I dont play games I really thought that reformatting my computer twice and deleting all my files off my recovery disk would do something but I am guessing the problem is not a file related problem but perhaps a Freezing computer... especially in fullscreen games... OMFG? device problem like my ram or motherboard Oh yeah I forgot to mention that a month before this problem I used my computer to fix my friend's computer my plugging his Internal Harddrive to one of the slots into my computer and when I was done fixing his computer I removed the Internal Harddrive and put it back in his computer Also after that my computer said something about one of my USB drives should be plugged into a High Speed USB Port instead of the one it's in now while i was fixing my friend's computer I unplugged and replugged my mouse and keyboard alot those two devices are the only ones that use USB ports and my mouse kept lag freezing since it didn't really bother me while playing games but when it started shutting off my mouse its a laser ACER mouse because i was moving the mouse too Freezing computer... especially in fullscreen games... OMFG? quickly I started unplugging it and replugging it I recently also moved my Internal Harddrive to another port because my computer told me that my internal Harddrive was better suited on another port I didnt which port so I randomly chose one I have internal harddrive ports But then again I don't know much about computer devices By the way I don't know how to give you the entire specs of my computer I better submit this thread before my computer freezes and I have to restart typing this all over I've already defragged and fixed my registry by the way I live in Canada and I read about the Voltage recommendations for my computer It's about V my computer has options V or V One more thing after my computer successfully shutdowns without a force shutdown I can't turn it back on no matter how many times or how hard I keep pressing it The only thing that works is turning off the power bar my computer is connected to that wait seconds turn on my power bar and my computer can be turned on When my computer starts freezing I can click on a few things although it doesn't actually execute any programs or commands or do anything then when I randomly click really quickly on my computer screen my computer fully freezes and a long loud beep screeches out of my computer Thanks in Advance

Ok this is my first time on this site and i have little understanding of the computer but let me try to explain the problem as well as i can.

Ok most of my games are freezing up during gameplay such as Everquest freezes up for no reason or same for Guild Wars. I think its something wrong with my computer (but no sure the problem) or it might be something wrong with the graphic card. I can telll the difference between lag of a game and the game just freezing up for no apparent reason.

If you need me to say what kind of computer i have or what graphic card i currently have, please say so.

If there is a program that i need to download to help fix this problem, i trust you guys seeing as you know more than i do.

Can you guys please help me out?

You don't have any Antivirus? Hmm.
Do you at least have the free Malwarebytes?
Try downloading a good free A/V like MS Security Essentials or Avast or something and run a Full Scan.
If you don't have Malwarebytes, install it also and run a full scan.

Good luck

Hey Win Forums Recently my computer has been behaving quite oddly It hasn't been booting up but games, shutting down. Computer freezing not during not booting, BSOD, hasnt given any error messages When I try to boot it will open up to a black screen where the Starting Windows stuff is supposed to appear but nothing will happen I'll restart it a bunch of times and eventually I'll get one where the words Starting Windows are there but still nothing happens If it offers me Computer not booting, freezing during games, BSOD, not shutting down. the option to load the repair program it will open the screen that says windows is loading the files with the loading bar at the bottom but nothing will load It takes anywhere from to restarts before i'll seemingly just get lucky and it will turn on Also I've been freezing lately while playing BF My video card drivers are up to date along with the other main drivers Sometimes I'll get a BSOD if I wait long enough but it doesnt ususally happen Also when starting sometimes when it says on the boot screen quot Verifying DMI pool data quot nothing will happen and then it will suddenly say Disk read error press cntrl alt delete to restart This leads me to believe that it's a disk error which explains a lot of the symptoms i've been having lately but I just dont know where to start the diagnosis Any help would be much appreciated here's hoping I can turn it on tomorrow to check your responses

A:Computer running slow, freezing, some games not coming up at all

well the first step is making sure you dont have a ton of programs running in the system tray (next to the clock.).
If you could click the windows button, right click computer, click properties, and tell us what is written down in system, it would give us a better idea of the caliber of PC we are talking about here.

My computer kept freezing when i watch video in fullscreen or playing games
I tried to go to safe mode but my monitor show no signal at the monitor screen
I tried uninstall the graphic card then suddenly my monitor screen show no signal

I reformatted the com but it still doesn't work
When i using the recovery disc the monitor show no signals but i still can do a full system recovery by using my imagination as the screen show no signals

Sometimes a message will pop up says kernel driver error

Im using windows 7 Home Premium , my graphic card is GT220
Here are my computer Specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3072MB RAM [please help me]

A:[HELP]Computer keep freezing while watching videos and playing games.

Can you see the POST screen / BIOS prior to loading Windows? Or is there no signal at all?

If you can see POST / BIOS but lose signal as Windows loads - then that's interesting, as the recovery/safe mode uses the generic VGA driver.

The fact that the PC kept freezing coupled with the loss of signal suggests that either the card, or power supply may be faulty.

This probably goes without saying since you didn't mention it, but are all your drivers are updated? Nonupdated sound card or integrated sound drivers can cause all sorts of glitches from my experiences. I believe I had this sort of problem a few years back and it ended up having to do with Dirxct X 8 or 9.

I have looked online extensively but haven't found anything related to this issue. Whenever I play games (any game), five minutes into play the game will freeze for about a minute. Another five minutes later it will repeat the process. Does not matter which game or which settings I am using. My CPU usage goes up to 100% which I haven't noticed happening before, temps have not increased. Memory is at 30-40% usage.-Checked drivers and updated-Ran memory tests and checked for memory leaks, returns nothing-Ran tests on hard drives, no issues-Checked temps, all normal-Ran torture tests on CPU, no problems-Formatted hard drives and reinstalled OS and games to test, problem persisted-Checked all connections-Cleaned inside and out thoroughlyCPU, Motherboard, HDD, and RAM are all about 5 years old. Everything else has been replaced within the last year.Thank you.

I just got a new computer today and when I run doom 3 after I play for a couple minutes the game will either freeze or crazy colours will go everywhere inthe game then itll freeze. i have a amd 3200, 2gb ram, 9800 pro. Could it be it is overheating? or that the power supply isnt enough (350 watt). If it is, how much does it cost to get more power? Thanks.

A:Games freezing

Hi Luke,

I had similar problems myself when I first ran Doom; I have a similar system, and same GPU as you. There are some issues with ATi cards and doom3, it tends to run better on NVidea cards.

First stop, just try the lastest ATi drivers, they did coincidentally post one on the catalyst site about the same time as Doom3 was released. That worked for me.

there are other, doom-specific, beta catalyst 4.9 drivers available if the above doesn't work.

alternatively, some people have reported success with a 3rd party driver like this one from guru 3d.

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to play on high-quality settings with a minimum res of 1024x768, possibly higher, with your rig. You just need to tweak things a bit until it works ok.

There's nothing wrong with your power, until it stops working.

Hi, a week ago a few of my big processor-heavy PC games suddenly started freezing for no apparent reason after about 15 minutes of play (Arma2/Arrowhead/Age of Empire) despite running fine for a couple of years, and I have to switch off the PC to get out of the freeze.
.I ran CCleaner, AVG and Adaware and re-installed the games but the freeze problem remains.
My other games are unaffected and run fine. Any suggestions as to what I can try next?
The only possible clue I can think of is that my Google Earth started running jerkily about the same time the game freezes began, so perhaps GE did one of its automatic updates and may have triggered the freezes in some way?
My machine specs-

A:Games keep freezing

I've solved it by uninstalling Google Earth, so it seems I was right, the latest GE v 7 auto-update messed up my system somehow and caused the games to freeze!
I've now re-installed an older GE v 5 which doesn't affect the games, and I've also selected the GE "Do not auto-update" box..

I am having issues with my computer and freezing during games. I have been playing some pretty intense graphical games for a computer including Warcraft3, Battlefield 1942, and Civilization 3. I have been having problems with my computer freezing at random intervals during these games for a couple months now. I updated my video card drivers and it seems a little better but still happens way too often. It seems to freeze oddly however, sometimes it freezes completely while other times it will slowly freeze like bag lag... both require restarting the computer. My friends say that it probably has to do with my video card or Windows XP Pro Edition but I'm not sure. Thanks for any help.

OS: Windows XP Pro Edition
Processor: AMD Athlon 2000+ (1.67 Ghz)

i have geForceGTX 970, i7 and windows 10 and recently witcher 3 and some other games that before run perfectly have started to freeze after a couple minutes of playing them. i can still hear everything that is going on and in case of multiplayer games my friends can see me moving if i use my keyboard. If i alt+tab to desktop and back i get a black screen and soon after the game crashes with no crash report given. I tried to fix this by seeing if something was wrong with the firewall and by updating my drivers with geforce experience but nothing helped. Not all games are effected for example cs:go. I would like to know if something could be broken in my computer because i get it fixed for free during this year.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-GS6000 and was looking to upgrade my ram so my computer would run faster. one reason I am doing this is an online game I used to play all the time wont play very well, the fps is good but after about 4 mins of playing the game starts freezing every 4-5 seconds. my question however is while looking for ram to put in my computer I found a Corsair 8GB PC8500 DDR3 1066Mhz SODIMM Memory - 2x4096MB or Patriot PSD316G1333SK Signature Laptop Memory Kit - 16GB (2 x 8GB), PC3-10600, DDR3-1333MHz, 1.5V, CL9, Non-ECC, Unbuffered. I wasnt sure which would be better for my laptop an give it the best speed. also what does the Unbuffered mean? I was also wanting to make sure the Ram memory kits would fit in my laptop. Thanks

Ok, whenever I go into one of my games it freezes, doesn't do anything but put a little white dot in the far upper left corner. However, when I change my graphics acceleration down to none or one before none it works but way too slow to even play (like 1 step ever 5 seconds) I have tried downloading new drivers for my videocard but that didn't work, I upgraded my RAM as well. This has happened with three games so I am pretty sure it is my computer that has the problem.
I also put my dxdiag information in here as well.

Hi There,

I have this really annoying problem that while playing a game (COD4 for example) I get 5-15 mins into it and it just freezes. Really fast sound looping starts and I can't CTRL+ALT+DEL out of it. My only solution is to do a hard restart and let it boot up again.

I had this problem earlier in the year after I got a new video card and I thought I had fixed it. But a few months ago I did a clean install and this probably deleted the settings that fixed it.

Any help you can give is much appreciated.

Cheers,
RedFOX217

A:Games Keep Freezing!!

One of the first (and probably the easiest and cheapest (i.e. free) things to check) is your temperatures.

Download and install HWMonitor then run the program. Leave it running in the background and play a game for 5 - 10 mins and exit (before it crashes the machine).

Post either post a screenshot of the temperatures (minimum and maximum) or type them out in a new reply.

Also, can you provide more information about your system, I can see what you have in your profile but could do with more. If it is a 'big brand' name like HP, Dell etc. then what is the exact make and model. If it's a self or custom build, what is the make and model of Motherboard, CPU, RAM (including amount), Graphics Card, Power Supply (including wattage), number of hard drives and/or optical drives (CD/DVD) etc. the more info you provide the better answers you will get.

What operating system are you using and is it 32 or 64 bit, are all your drivers fully up to date?

My Laptop started to have a problem ever since I updated my PC. This did not happen before the update, but ever since I updated my laptop my games started to freeze. I can start it up and everything, and I can stay at the main menu, but when I start playing it starts to freeze after a few minutes into the game. I updated my drivers and everything, but it still doesn't work. HELP!

Hi all,
I have a problem. I start a game and after some time It freeze. It happened to every game I tried (Unreal Tournament III, The Witcher 2, FIFA 12). I've got all drivers up to date and my components aren't overheating. And by the way, I can hear a sound from game when It freeze, the only solution for getting the game back to work is to use Ctrl+Alt+Del a maximize the game and It works again for some time.

My spec:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1
MB: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 (BIOS version F4)
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
RAM: 4 GB
Power Supply: Fortron Epsilon 600W

I'll appreciate any help.

A:Games are freezing

I could be wrong but the specs for your graphics card say it requires 38A on the +12V rail from the power supply. The power supply specs state it has 4 X +12V rails at 18A each.

If I am understanding all the specifications the card uses 2 X PCI connectors. If they are coming from seperate 12V rails you only have 36A available so it is underpowered.

Not really sure how long it's been effecting me, but im using Windows XP professional, and whenever i play Games ( i think i've narrowed it down to games using 3-D but not positive on this ), no matter how low the system requirements ( AKA, Tribes 2, Rise of Nations ) the computer freezes either constantly, or once an hour, or if im lucky once every 4-5 hours, but no matter what, theres a very high chance that the next time my computers off isnt because i shut it down using the start menu, but i had to turn off the power.

System Specs are as follows ( coming from DxDiag )

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
System Manufacturer: VIA
System Model: 7VTXE+
BIOS: Version 1.00
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)

A:Freezing with games

Make sure it's not overheating - take off the side of the case, and have a fan blowing towards the inside. Clean out the dust inside, and make sure the fans on the CPU and graphics card are working.

Also, what is your power supply rated at? It might be overheating as well.

Ive tried reinstalling the GFX driver, I'm using a nvidia 9600 GT.

I have above all the recommended specs for the games its freezing on.

I've updated to the latest DirectX.

Any other solutions? none of these have done anything to impact the performance.

I have a Pentium 4 256MB 12X cd-rw 32MB Nividia GeForce2 MX graphics card. Any time I play any of my games, after about 5 minutes, the games seem to freeze or go very very slow, and it does that for about 1 minute, then it snaps out of it and gameplay is normal. Then, about every 3 or 4 minutes, it keeps doing this. It is really wrecking gameplay. I have updated drivers and gone into msconfig and changed the way the comp starts up. Nothing seems to work. The red light goes on on my CPU when this is happening. It almost seems that there is another process running that is interfering with the performance. I run Windows XP. Iv'e replaced the Processer, replaced the mother board, tried 8 different RAM sticks at different speeds, Tried different harddrives (IDE and SATA), different PS from 420 watt to 550 watt, tried a different video card.
I've also tried fresh formats with no other devices ( meaning just hard drive and video card), tried different video card drivers (newest, betas, and older), updated BIOS and all drivers.

Okay so here's my problem. When I'm playing certain games on my PC, like Grand Theft Auto 3, or Halo which I just bought, my computer will freeze up on me, but when I'm playing some other games, like Hitman Codename 47, I won't have any problems.

I've tried updating my video card and sound card drivers, with no luck, and I've already spent 2 weeks corresponding through email with the people at Rockstar North trying to figure out what the problem is, cause I thought it was only GTA3.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? And if so, were you able to fix it and how?

In my last post we determined here that my PSU was inadaquate. While this was true I have replaced it with a 750watt namebrand. Unfortunately When i play games that required any stress on my system it locks up and i have to reboot. I have resorted to playing Diablo II as of late. I ran memtest86 for 2 hrs and no errors were logged. And i ran Prime95 overnight for 7 hours. The system is still doing fine this morning. I know the system is not overheating either, all temps run in the green and games lockup before they would even get a chance to get hot(usually in Menu). Any suggestions?

If you mean 110Watts then yes this is low (too low for an addon Video card)
(I note that you have removed the reference stating you had a 110 Power Supply)

You can also do the below (freely) before purchasing a better Power Supply:

Please run Memtest on your Ram
And confirm all your Device Drivers are up to date
Also make sure all Windows Security Updates (and Service Packs) are completed

FYI - you had at least 2 BSOD's (the memory dumps were uploaded with the reports that you submitted). They occurred on 29 and 30 July. It appears that the one from 30 July was a Driver Verifier enabled bug check - what settings did you use for Driver Verifier?

Both memory dumps are Driver Verifier enabled. Please turn off Driver Verifier (it's supposed to cause BSOD's) by selecting "Delete existing settings" in the program, clicking on Finish, and rebooting the system.

Although the networking device is disabled, the drivers are loaded and are from 2008. I'd suggest enabling the device and updating the drivers. Looking at the systeminfo results, it may be that there are 2 nForce networking devices on the mobo - and only one is disabled.

Send-loop.exe (email Marketing software) is causing errors. Not much else is evident. Have you checked for video card overheating?

A:ATI 9500 Freezing in games

Ah yes, the good ol' Computer games freezing with a Radeon card! at least i wasnt the only one.

Some things that i found out when mine was doing this.

I have a similar card, only the 9700 Pro.
(its too nice of a card to just give up on isnt it? )

HEAT. These cards get HOT HOT HOT!

Try installing another fan, or crack open the side of the case and turn on a house fan of some sort, directing it towards the video card. This isnt a "good" practice, but will let you test if its a heat issue.

Power. Radeon 9500+ cards require a certain amount of voltage to work properly. I cant tell you what this is off the top of my head because i cant remember, but for some reason 1.7 is ringing a bell(DONT HOLD ME ON THAT)

Drivers! Ah...ATI stinks at making drivers, but slowly are getting better.

When i installed the Catalyst 3.5's(the newest ones when i bought the card) my games froze.

So i downloaded the series my friends were running on there 8500's the catalyst 2.5's. Didnt freeze for me after that, and it still is ticking good.

And lastly, if your going to run a newer driver set, have what it wants...DIRECTx 9!

Install DirectX9.0-certified and see if that works too.

I would do everything software base before getting to the nitty gritty(hardware) stuff.

Hope this helps you out!
Good Luck!

Hi I have a recurring problem with three games I try playing on my pc It happens when I m playing Fear FarCry and Rise Of Nations but not with any others - and I ve played Doom Quake Half Life etc with no trouble whatsoever Right on to the problem I can play the three games in question for anywhere between and minutes and then the game will freeze The music still plays for a while but then the problem changes Sometimes the game will minimise to the desktop and I ll get a message saying my graphics card has been reset as it stopped responding in which case I m able to play on for a couple more minutes before it happens again Other times the game will freeze completely and the music will also stop it tends to get stuck in a loop The only way to remedy either of these is to reset my computer Needless to say this is annoying as I lose all progress problem with three Freezing games made before the crash My pc is more than capable of running all the games here s the specs P GHz Gb DDR RAM ATi Radeon X PCI-Express Graphics I know the graphics card is low-end but surely it s enough to play these games without any problems Otherwise wouldn t the games not load in the first place nbsp

Hello, I've recently Installed Windows XP Service Pack 3, and games started to freeze about a day after, that never really bothered me but now I'm pretty annoyed because programs i use on a daily basis are freezing such as Flash Cs3 and photoshop, i've tried virus scans because at first i though that might be it but nothing seemed to work.

I've tried about everything and I'm just wondering if any of you could help me at all,

Thanks.

Hello and thank you in advance for looking through this post My problems complicated in a way You I'm playing when NOT games. Freezing see I run on a Area- m Laptop with Vista The Vid card is a geforce gt The problem is this thing tends to randomly freeze up if i don t have a game like World of Warcraft or counter strike playing in the background and in some rare times even that wont keep it from freezing up It also seems to happen more frequently if im watching videos on youtube or running a flash program or game like on newgrounds When it does Freezing when I'm NOT playing games. happen the only way I can get it going again is to restart the laptop After wards Freezing when I'm NOT playing games. Vista notices it was shutdown improperly but that s about it I can t find any error logs or anything else that could tell me what could be wrong I know its the video card but i can t tell why I ve already tried to uninstall reinstall and update the drivers Freezing when I'm NOT playing games. but that only appears to work for a few days then it goes back to freezing So I m stumped I don t really want to run off to a repair shop because the ones around here really charge a lot Any ideas nbsp
