Free Backup software + Own Server

Q: Free Backup software + Own Server

Hi all

i currently use 'iDrive' which does a daily backup of my computer. This is all good but i have got my own web server which has a 1 TB hard disk inside and is always connected to my home network and the internet.

I am looking for a piece of software (preferably free) that family and friends can use on their computers and connect to my server and backup their important documents automatically.

Without sounding horrid, a lot of my friends and family are not very experienced with computers and so i am needing a piece of software that once setup it will backup their documents and pictures etc with out them having to do anything or only having to press a few buttons.

Not sure if this type of software exists but if anybody knows of software that does this i would be very grateful.

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Seven free or open source backup tools

Data backup used to be pretty simple. Both Windows NT and Unix included basic backup utilities that could easily be used to back up the operating system to tape. A simple script would run the backup utility at a given time in the evening, and that was that. However, as technology has evolved, the requirements of a backup system have gone beyond a simple full backup every night. Handling scheduling, particularly without having to edit or write scripts, can be greatly simplified with a GUI interface. Handling open files, backing up to devices other than tape drives, reporting tools, notification of failed backups and easy handling of incremental backups are all reasons to use products other than operating system backup utilities.

Hi all,

After having a little scare with my PC not booting I've been looking on the net for some free software to backup my files, photo's, music etc.

I have many discs with folders and photo's that I've done in the past just by using my burning software but I wondered is there anything that can be 'scheduled' to backup files so as I'm working each day I know it's sorted?

I have tried the XP ntbackup but it says it can't connect to the Removable Storage service. I have only one HDD, no external drives.

Thanks in advance,

Lisa

A:Free backup software?

You should consider an external drive. Backups made to your main drive will be of no use if it fails. CD/DVD backups are possible, too, but much less convenient than scheduled backups to an external drive.

Free backup applications:

FileHamster
Karen's Replicator
Cobian backup
SyncBack
DeltaCopy (Works like Vista's file transfer and only copies changed bytes so whole file not copied.)
Allway Sync
VersionBackup
JaBack
WinBackup

An occasional backup of the entire system, operating system, programs, and files, so they could be restored to a new hard drive if need be, is also a good idea.

Free Drive Cloners/Imagers:

EaseUs Disk Copy (Copies disks or partitions)
XXClone
CloneZilla GParted LiveCD (Complete partitioning and drive imaging/restoration tools)
CloneZilla
Partition Saving
PCI CloneMaxx
Drive Image XML
HDClone
DriveClonerXP
Self-Image
copyr.dma (Copies disk with bad sectors for recovery)

Commercial Apps:

O&O DiskImage
Acronis True Image Home
EAZ-FIX Professional and Easy Image
Drive Snapshot
Keriver Image
Avanquest Copy Commander
Paragon Drive Backup
NovaBackup
R-Drive Image
Norton Ghost
HDClone Pro or Enterprise
Terabyte Image for Windows
Terabyte Image for DOS (can directly access FAT, FAT32, and NTFS partitions)
Spotmau Disk Clone & Backup

A:Backup software for free

I already had ToDo Backup Home (free) version installed and had created a file backup of My Documents folder on an external HDD. I downloaded the free Pro version and installed it. the setup program detected the presence of the Home version and uninstalled it, activated the Pro version, rebooted. After reboot i had to click the setup file again and the Pro version installed.

The GUI is virtually identical the the free version and the backup files created with the free version were detected with no problem. i haven't tried it yet, but I've no reason to believe the bootable flash drive I created with the free version will not work with the pro version. I'll give it a try and post back with affirmation.

Raybro

EDIT: Gotta redo the Bootable media in Pro version if you want the Cloning tool included in the options available.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good backup software?

Preferably something that can be set on a schedule so it would pop up and remind me to stick in a DVD to burn to etc, windows has some backup software which can be set to run on schedule but it doesn't burn to DVD/CD/whatever and if I set it to backup to a removable media and it can't find it when the scheduled time rolls around well rather than notifying me it just ignores it. I have set it to backup to my secondary drive regularly but I would prefer to burn the backups to DVD

So generally at the mo my backup routine is whenever I remember I burn a few DVDs but I would like something a bit more reliable (as I am prone to forget these things!)

Thanks very much

Why am I getting this message?

My server is running WSE 2012, plain, NOT R2, and I'm getting the above message. The server backup drive is a 8 TB USB 3 drive and has 4.6 TB free. My main data partition has 2.6 TB which rarely changes - the only real change being the workstation backup.

I've checked Technet and Google, and I'm obviously not putting in the right search terms.

So why am I getting this message?

Having just suffered a hard drive crash I thought to report my experience for the benefit of others and solicit suggestions My OS is Windows Home Premium bit and I had Free backup software products installed on my PC Paragon Backup and Restore and Macrium Reflect Free edition Paragon's backups take much much longer by a multiple than Macrium More importantly the Rescue disk created by the Paragon Free software backup Comparing Free version did not work correctly for me In its quot normal mode quot it just loaded and then went nowhere It did work in its quot safe mode quot option but was unbelievably slow Using the Rescue disk in safe mode the disk scanning took forever minutes and the only way Comparing Free backup software to know it was still working was that the mouse froze limiting my options to waiting or a hard reboot Everything else took forever including selecting the archive to restore and the restore itself several times Macrium's restore time Macrium's reflect was much faster for me Its rescue disk worked flawlessly and booted right up Similarly the archive selection and restore was much faster though I could only restore one partition at a time rather than set it to restore the entire disk image I had created On the con side the rescue disk I created from it only had a restore capability It could not be used to backup and thus it was not possible to create a quot Comparing Free backup software bare metal quot without being in Windows backup and restore of a hd Paragon had that capability but its slowness - maybe because I was forced to use its quot safe mode quot - made it unbelievably tedious The question that occurred to me was the following Was Macrium so much faster because it skipped important steps or was it just more efficient Conversely was Paragon's slowness merely inefficiency or did Paragon just check more things and thus was more secure I do not know Bottom line Paragon's bare metal capability was a plus but it slowness made it barely useful for me because one was never sure if the software had stalled or just needed forever to get to the next screen My experience with the Free versions only Would like to hear more knowledgeable opinions

A:Comparing Free backup software

I'm using the same Paragon free product here.

I originally made 2 recovery disks and they both boot up fine (normal mode).

Performance seems pretty decent. I normally use "Best" compression which adds a very considerable overhead. Nevertheless, performance seems to be pretty consistent with that I would expect from the underlying hardware. I don't have any reason to feel that the Paragon program is inherently slow or inefficient.

I'm guessing that the recovery disk doesn't like some aspect of your hardware. A missing or bad driver perhaps? Or some other motherboard/BIOS interoperability issue?

I have seen some other reports of problems with the recovery disk. One common/suggested solution is to build a BartPE disk with the Paragon tools integrated with it. That will use standard Windows drivers plus any that you specifically integrate into the recovery disk. However, that's not a 2 minute job. If you want to go that route you'll also need the BartPE plugin:

http://ftp.paragon.eu.com/support/DB10/PSG_BartPE.zip

Caveat: although I have made some BartPE disks, I have not personally made one with the Paragon plugin.

Hope this helps.

It basically goes like this:

The backup software included with my Western Digital My Book is extremely frugal in the options available, and there was no way in manipulating the settings. And until now I was using Areca Backup. The only problem is that on my second ever usage, my antivirus software (Kaspersky) detected the software as containing traces of a trojan, and it deleted the application file (I don't know how to recover it, but I'm not going through the trouble).

So I'm basically looking for backup software which is free, reliable and flexible in options and simplicity (I don't want to have to do too much tinkering with settings and such).

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks,

Gene.

The driver issues probably has to do with Microsoft not having a generic driver for the NIC. Most resuce CD's are build off WinPE I know that i had to add my NIC drivers to the my rescue disk in order for it to work.

I'm looking for a slick, easy-to-use, and free software utility to perform a complete disk image backup. Must be reasonably easy to use, as it's in case of a crash on my sister's computer. Hers is running Windows XP. If the backup can be onto an external USB-connected hard drive, excellent.

For that matter, if there's one that is all that great, I'd like to use it myself to make a perfect image backup of a new computer (before I corrupt it with the usual alterations) . . .

If there isn't something free to fit the above bill, what commercial disk imaging software would you recommend??

Thanks Kindly!

Planned on getting Genie Backup Manager, but need to wait until the new year. However, I don't want to wait until then to backup my C-drive.

Was looking at using Back2zip until then. This is for a home computer needing the usual data backed up. Pictures, email addresses, data files, etc. No locked files. No encrypted files. Will this suffice?

This link is a mini-tutorial (guess you would call it that) that suggests putting everything in My Documents first after creating a new file. Apparently I will need to do this myself before running the backup software.

Hello all. I'm looking for some free software to back up files via secure FTP to a remote location. I use a Synology DiskStation DS214se as an FTP server and it's where the rest of my data files are backed up too. My DiskStation supports FTP, FTPS and SFTP. I essentially want to make sure the files are encrypted during transit to the remote location so they aren't transferred in plain view. Does anyone recommend any programs or recommend a paid program that would work well for this? I tried using 2BrightSparks SyncBack free software, but of course it doesn't come with the support for secure FTP on the free version. Any advice would be great, thank you!

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any free backup software that allows you to throttle back the backup speed so that it doesnít impact on performance too much?

Iím hoping to find something that will do backing up automatically in the background and doesnít mind if the computer gets turned off while itís working. It would be good if it has an option to do a straight file copy, rather than creating cryptic data blocks, so that I can use the files outside the backup software, (I never know if I can trust the data block system to work if disaster strikes.)

Is there any free software that will do all this or will I have to pay for it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Another thing to note, preferably I'd like some way where people sending me files do not have to install any type of software for themselves. Where they could just go to maybe some sort of GUI and can just log in and dump files.

I don't know of any GOOD free FTP clients. When I used to do a lot of FTP transfers I found Cute FTP to be a very user friendly program.

A friend of mine tried Smart FTP and said he liked it but he wasn't a power user. It was just a one time use.

Try googling CuteFTP and/or Smart FTP and/or 'free FTP client'. Tons of crap will come up.

Hi,

I've been using Driveimage XML for Windows Backups for some time. It get the job done. Incremental backup would be nice but since Windows is not my primary OS and I don't have a lot of files there, it works fine. There are two things that drive me crazy though:1. On Vista/Windows 7, Driveimage forces me to deactivate UAC and restart every single time I want to backup.2. Driveimage cannot restore to a partition smaller than the one it backed up.Does anyone know of a backup utility, free or less than $20, That will allow me to do full image-based backups without either of these limitations? Incremental backups would be cool too, but this may be asking to much for the price range.

I'm looking for free webdav server software that will run in windows XP or if there isn't any then I'll even be ok with some pay software so long as it runs in XP. I do have XP professional if that matters. I know that windows server 2003 allows for this... but I really just don't want to bother with that.

There's loads of free ftp server software out there to say nothing of XP being able to do it native... but I'm not seeing anything for webdav.

I need it for calender stuff.

I have been using Syncback SE Free for a long time now with Win It works well I like the mirror function and the ability for syncback to detect small changes and allows you to view different files When I use the mirror function in syncback it scans the drive folder and only copy delete the differences leaving the rest of the files intact I have one main PC as my work pc and I rotate between different PC's win pro laptop and win pro replace free software to syncback Data backup/mirror desktop So I like all files on each pc to be current Think of it as Data backup/mirror software to replace syncback free dropbox but offline with tons of Data backup/mirror software to replace syncback free data Currently I have an external hd which I use as an intermediary between the quot current quot pc and the quot older quot pc After I upgraded to win pro I noticed that I can do a complete backup with syncback but I cannot use the mirror function Syncback does not work in deleting files either from source or target hard disk It can detect the file changes but unless I delete the file at the target drive it will not copy to the target drive Does anyone know a mirroring software which can replace syncback free which works for windows pro desktop and my windows pro laptop I have tried contacting the people behind syncback brightsparks and they have a knowlege base which does not tell much It seems that windows is getting stingy with the read write options Following the KB discussion on syncback yields nothing in fact it is too convoluted I don't mind if it is a network ethernet solution not online storage like dropbox-but using ethernet wires or my kind of solution which is using an external hd as long as all my work computers are quot current quot

A:Data backup/mirror software to replace syncback free

I use SyncToy from MS. It has various setups and I use Echo to update my external to match my internal. Some have complained that it sometimes does not delete a file on the external if it was deleted on the internal. I found if I run the Preview first then it works great.
I believe this was also fixed with ver 2.1

A:Create VPN and good Free VPN software (Server AND client)

First off, a vpn in just a virtual network connection, so it won't natively present you with a desktop or applications. It will get you remotely connected to the network, from there you will launch something else to connect to a desktop, either rdp, terminal services, etc.

Doing a VPN is natively built into sever 2012, so you won't need any software, free or otherwise to setup a.basic VPN.

I am looking for a good backup solution for 2008 Server std x64. This server is an upgrade from 03 and I really liked that solution but no support for 2008.I had a USR 8700 NAS on a fiber connection to another building. Using the falconstor Disk Safe Client. I liked the ability to mount the backups as a drive. The speed of the iscsi interface. and the monitory with e-mail notification, I have looked at falconstor's site and saw some of there current software however no pricing, and price is a big issue.I have also found backup assist. I looked at it and seems more a wbadmin script writer with a couple needed perks. Anybody know any other options, or a way to make falconstor disksafe work on 2008 x64??

A free Windows multimedia and home automation application is released, called the Digital Home Server (DHS). Thanks to the nice graphical interface, DHS looks great in your living room, where it can act as a media player.

DHS is a hobby project that has grown wildly in size, and started as a graphical interface for 7" USB monitors. The current version can handle any monitor size from 7" up to whatever, and the screen design will be adapted accordingly. Moreover, the layout is touchscreen compatible, so even on small monitors you can still easily control all functions.

I had been using File History, but then for some reason it no longer backs up my folders. Besides, it seems I cannot set it up to backup only selected folders. The only choice I seem to have is to backup all HD.
I need to be able to
1. have a 2nd (and maybe a 3rd) copy of photos/videos and personal files in external HDs.
2. Once I copy new photos from source to PC, Backup software should be able to identify what's new and copy it to backup locations.
3. In the event when duplicates exist, Backup software should be able to suggest/request removal of them.

Any suggestions to other features are more than welcome, even if it's just to make better use of File History.

Thanks in advance guys!

A:Can one suggest an excellent free/nearly free BackUp app

Sorry I don't know much about free as over the years I have found that free is not always free and recovering your data when something bad happens. And It will happen. It just isn't worth taking a chance on free.
I use and still use Acronis True Home Image. I'll continue using this program on BIOS/MBR computers.
When we started using newer machines that are UEFI/GPT Acronis did not step up to the plate for several years 2011 through 2014 they advertised that they were UEFI complaint. While at the same time they were not able to restore a working OS Booting Hard Drive. This was a nightmare to a lot of us. I understand that in April 2014 they came out with an update that did make ATHI 2014 actually work. I can't say for sure as by this time I had found Macrium Reflect which is a very good back up program/ Imaging program that actually Clones or Images UEFI GPT machines and 100% restores booting OS hard drives/SSD. The main reason that I'll be moving everything over to Reflect is One it works, two there tech support is English speaking highly experienced people that actualy work directly with the product.
The free addition will work good for disk Images and for Cloning. If you want to use file and folder backup you'll have to pay for a license. I personally caught a 30% off sale and got a Pro License. As I upgrade the other Work Stations and Notebooks they will only need the standard License.
So I recommend Macrium Reflect, however Acronis may be better for your requirements. You'll just have to check out there features. And I also recommend that you check out the Support Forums for both programs and little bit of time spent investigating could save you a lot of aggravation latter on.
I don't know of any back up software that will inform you of duplicates. Since they would have to be in different folders I have never needed such, so I could be wrong about that.

Hi,

The company I work for is expanding and I have been tasked with organising the backup policy. I have opted for Microsoft System Center: Data Protection Manager 2010 installed on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

All the backup files are kept on a dedicated HDD in the data store.

My question is can I use Windows Server Backup which comes with Server 2008 to make a working backup of the DPM data store to an external HDD? If I can then which locations do I have to include in the backup.

I would also appreiciate any links which might help.

Thanks for any help.

With the windows backup you have to reinstall windows and then restore the backup to get back to where you were. I use and love ghost because it makes a 100% exact copy of EVERYTHING and all you have to do to get it back is to restore the image and you're up a going again - no need to reinstall windows. Is also fast and can clone one drive to another or create an Image file.

GoBack I don't like and Backup Now needs windows to be installed to restore the backup

G'day everyone

Does anyone know of a simple backup program that is capable of backing up large files incrementally by splitting the file and backing up only changed parts of the file? The files I'm talking about are files that get altered by appending stuff at the end of the file, e.g. log files or mailbox files, so it's generally possible to split a new version of the file at the exact point where the old version stopped, purely by file size.

Specifically, I want to back up Thunderbird and SeaMonkey mailboxes without having to create additional subfolders within those programs.

I understand that if something had changed near the beginning of the file, then the whole file will have to be backed up, unless the backup program is capable of some very clever searching, but mostly the files will change only by having data appended to it.

Thanks
Samuel

A:Backup software that splits large files for incremental backup

You may want to rethink incremental backups. Where I worked, until I retired, we first used incremental backups for our servers. That seemed like a good approach - make an initial full backup on one day of the week and then only incrementals the rest of the week. That allowed smaller backups however when it came time to restore it was a nightmare making sure the incrementals were installed in the proper order, and it took much longer to restore. A decision was made to only do full backups every night and although the backup was bigger if a restore was needed there was no confusion on order of reinstall and it took less time.

I do the same thing with my own PC backups. I use Acronis True Image, which has incremental backup ability, but I only do full hard drive backups, to a separate hard drive.

A:Free Server Antivirus ? e.g. for Windows Server 2008

The answer is fairly simple. Just read the details on the site -
Microsoft Security Essentials is available for small businesses with up to 10 PCs.

• Microsoft Security Essentials:
Microsoft updated it’s free Anti-Virus solution at the end of 2010 to support Windows 2008/R2.
This is easily one of the better free offerings as Microsoft has updated this solution to complete directly with some of the biggest solutions, such as Mcafee and Symantec paid versions.

When downloading, simply choose Windows Vista / Windows 7, as Microsoft has yet to update the website.http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Hi there

Why can't people be more honest on their websites -- as well as making it harder and harder to find REAL downloads without confusing extra offers / links to other programs with the real link buried deep down in an easy to miss website - I really hate the following that seems to be commonplace now -- FREE DOWNLOAD which implies FREE -- but the SOFTWARE most certainly Isn't but totally no mention of BUY / PAY on the site.

We should BOYCOTT those sites and make our feelings known --nothing wrong about people wanting to make a few bucks - especially these days with good jobs getting harder to find -but we can still be OPEN.

Cheers

Hi Because the amount of data stored on my drives is continuously increasing I've decided that it's time to find a way to backup the most important part of it So I'm looking for a software capable of making a backup copy on a secondary HDD of certain folders and of certain files from certain folders and keeping it updated I'm also interested to make a Looking for software/backup a backup good plan backup copy of files that are locked if possible I have some VMs and I'd like to back them up too if possbile I'll check to see whether VMWare Workstation can backup itself by taking snapshots on a different HDD at certain moments The software really needs to be able to cope with paths longer than characters it has to be able to retain all the file's attributes creation date modified date attribute fields etc and it has Looking for a good backup software/backup plan to ba able to do bit-by-bit checking in order to prevent corruption Also there are some large files that Looking for a good backup software/backup plan I can't backup it would take too much space and in this case I'd like to have a list of their names and sizes and if possible a checksum TTH or emule's MD in order to redownload them easily in case of a disaster What software would you advise me to use BTW I'm also very interested about your backup methods for your sensible data PS Neither RAID nor a ZFS NAS box are solutions for me at the moment and I'm not looking for a software that does backup to an entire partition Regards Nick

A:Looking for a good backup software/backup plan

You dont want much do you Nick?? Im not aware of any program that will do 100% of everything that you have listed ... that would require custom software ... the easiest solution IMO would be a program like Acronis/Macrium image, backed up to an external 2tb hard drive ... it may not be the most elegant solution, but it would work...

After a heavy-duty malware infection that wreaked such havoc that, on advise I got here, I decided to nuke-and-reinstall.

Also , I was subtly tipped that perhaps I should consider backing up the system against future incidents using, say, Macrium Reflect.

I did as I was told, but only remembered today that I had tried MR before, with not-so-impressive results which soured me on them at the time (2013):

perhaps the software has gotten better since, but I remember thinking then that I would henceforth not so to speak leave the (encryption) key to my data to anybody else, but make straight, unencrypted backups.

Also, the cost of storage is very low now even as compared to then, and in my case incremental backups or other such finesses, are not necessary.

What, then, would be the argument for using backup software in my particular case?

I just bought a USB TB external drive for making backups After some searching I decided to use EaseUS Software (EaseUS/Windows Backup Backup) Todo Backup because CNET rated it highly I plugged the drive into a Backup Software (EaseUS/Windows Backup) port and did a backup It was a file backup not an image backup but it still puts everything in one file PBD and then apparently modifies Windows Explorer to be able to browse the file Windows Backup the one that comes on Windows seems to work similarly though you need to use a wizard to restore things The backup took twice as much space as my data takes up on my internal hard drive Also it took and a half hours which I calculated to be MB s So my questions are Why doesn t it just put things in the drive in a normal folder file structure Why did it take up twice as much space Why did a USB backup go so Backup Software (EaseUS/Windows Backup) slowly Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it took up twice as much space but that s still slow considering I ve gotten speeds of MB s and I do realize transferring a lot of small files will take longer Am I just better off with using Windows Backup or is restoring a pain with the wizard Thanks for any advise nbsp

Hi!

I just found the new release of free backup software from Paragon.. it might be one to test, although I'm guessing it doesn't have much in the way of features.. did anyone know anything about this software?

Below what Paragon says about it -

"Easy step to total PC safety. FREE!
Backing up your data is like an insurance, you never have to worry if disaster strikes. Now thereís no more excuse for lost data Ė this insurance costs you nothing! If your system and data are safe now, keep them that way with Drive Backup 9.0 Express. This simple easy to use software doesn't ask you bewildering questions-it just backs up your data when and where you tell it, and recovers whenever disaster happens."

After my last near disaster I need to get off my butt and backup this pc. I was using Acronis but the earlier version of it was a lot easier. I don't know if I need to backup sector by sector and that's what I didn't understand.

Is there something that will work the same and would work on boot up, either starting with a separate disk or with the boot up option on the backup disk?

So list any really good backup programs in your opinion and thanks

A:What's the best free backup utility?

Acronis in my opinion is great but if you don't want to use it, that's fine. I'm sure you can still download and install an older version though; most software keep archives of older versions on their websites.

Anyway, Macrium Reflect and EaseUS are both great, free backup programs.

Overall Progress 99% and Time remaining 01 second. It continues to run as long as I allow it. Finally after a half hour I click cancel, but it still continues to run so I have to do a hard shut down to end it. This has happened twice before in the last two weeks. I thought something might have gotten corrupted so I uninstalled Macrium Reflect Free and re- installed it fresh doing an initial backup, but It still won't end. Does any one know what's wrong? Thanks in advance.

Here's an edit to the above post. I didn't mention that the first 5 backups since I installed Macrium free went OK. Recently there was an upgrade to Macrium Free which I downloaded. Could the upgrade be the culprit? When I reinstalled as mentioned above, the upgraded version was installed. Could be something, or maybe not. I'm new to imaging so I don't have any ideas.

Hi there
If you are using RAID can you recommend any Windows programs that allow you to add RAID driver when you boot from stand alone device.

The Non Free version of Macrium can do --"Technicians USB" but this is actually quite expensive.
There's a couple of Linux stand alone programs that do this but it would be nice if something like Free Macrium could be "Hobbled" to load the RAID drivers.

Any ideas / suggestions here -- I'm surely not the only one using RAID on Windows.

Can anyone recommend a free software package to backup files to CD/DVD and which has an incremental option? Preferably something you have used yourself!

A:Anyone able to recommend a free backup solution?

The following freeware (for private use) is recommended by the German computer mag PC-WELT for creating drive, partition, etc images, like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost. However. It will do what you want, but I have not used it myself.

DriveImage XML 2.0.2 1.7 MB
http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm

As you will know, the best medium for substantial backups is not a CD or DVD but an external HDD. The above utility is suited well for all these backups.

A video tutorial on its use is found here:
