HP Pavilion dv2899ea black screen

Q: HP Pavilion dv2899ea black screen

My daughter's HP Pavilion Artist's Edition laptop is continually defaulting to a black screen after booting up.
We updated the nvidia driver, but to no avail. She's running Vista Home Premium.

Any ideas how we can cure this? Safe mode doen't seem to help, I also started it without battery in. HP don't really want to know now it's out of warranty, but I see on their site there has been a recall of some similar models for a video card fault.

I don't know what else to try.

Thanks Guys

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

H @amwalberg, Thank you for your query!  I understand that your two-month-old notebook has a blank or black display when you power it on. You hear the fan and see the lights but the display is blank. Are you connecting directly to and electrical outlet and not using a power/surge bar? Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 10, 8). If the issue should remain, please contact HP Support for further assistance.  Please contact HP support at Contact HP Support . Please let me know the outcome. Thanks! I am on the laptop right now with safemode so i don't think the video card is messed up but in the normal windows all i get is a black screen after typing in my password and logging into the desktop. 1 program pops up during that and i see it and i can even see the task manager when i pull it up. But nothing else except my mouse pointer.

Anyone have any idea what this could be?

A:HP Pavilion ze9535nr Black screen help!

Hi and welcome. Since it starts in safe mode, you might try taking startup programs out of the picture by using start, run, msconfig, startup tab.

If after removing those it starts normally, work backwards.

A:Pavilion 23 All in One - BLACK SCREEN NO HP LOGO

Greetings, Troubleshooting this type of problem on an "All in One" system is difficult. You have no display so it is not possible to boot in Safe Mode to check for a graphics driver conflict. Possible hardware causes could be: graphics hardware, Memory, Processor and or Motherboard Processor Socket motherboard, Power Supply. Best to have it serviced. Contact HP Service here. You'll need the correct product number. Cheers!

Hi there @bfeliciano86,  Before I provide troubleshooting documentation, I would like to take a minute to welcome you to the HP Support Community, where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others! I will do my absolute best to help you resolve the issue you are having with the black screen on your HP Pavilion x2 Notebook PC.  Note: please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. As silly as it sounds, did you happen to try removing dust from the cooling areas in a notebook?Have you connected the Notebook to an external monitor or TV? If you remove the notebook battery, plug the AC power cable back into the notebook, then turn it on, does it power the Notebook? Do you have any beep codes or blinking LED lights? Have you done a BIOS reset?Have you tried performing a hard reset?Have you tried to see if you can test for hardware failures? If the computer is on, do you hear the fan running? If so, but the display remains blank, please see Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to help! Please just re-post with the information required from above. Please let me know the detailed results of the troubleshooting steps provided.  Could you please provide me with your Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) also.  Please let me know the detailed answers/results of the troubleshooting provided above. If this reply resolves your issue, please share the good news! Let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button at the bottom of this post.  To simply say thanks, please click the Thumbs up below! Thanks for joining the HP Support Community! Have a great day!

Hi, Just bought a HP Pavilion x2 - 10-j000na (ENERGY STAR) which arrived 2 days ago. Has been working fine - and battery charge was about halfway down. Had no problems until this evening when I'm getting no response whatsoever from it. Tried plugging it in with the adaptor, and also starting it on just battery power - but screen remains black, no lights, nothing. Any clues?? :/ Thanks.

Hello @Yool, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!  I have read your post on how your notebook computer is not able to power on, even though it is plugged into the AC adapter, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! If your computer is powering on, but there is no lights illuminating on the device, I recommend following this document on Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 8). Should the machine not respond at all when the button is pressed, I alternatively suggest this document: Computer does not start (Windows 8). This should help restore the display to your notebook computer. If the issue persists, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.htmlI hope this helps!Regards

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then we'll move to the next step.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

My laptop oftens turn black with just the cursor, once I turn it on.  The Windows logo shows and prompts me to log in as the user but after that, the screen just turns black/blank.  I've searched this forum and found a 2012 solution but that doesn't seem to work now since I couldn't download an ISO for Windows 7 at Microsoft.  Microsoft suggests I contact the manufacturer for the ISO.  I can still access the files in the HP Tools drive of my laptop, if that helps.  I don't want to turn off my laptop now as I'm afraid the problem will occur next time I boot it up. I have an HP pavilion dv2000. When I turn on the computer it boots, shows me the options and everything, but after the windows symbol shows, the screen goes completely black. Everything works properly if I boot it in safemode, which is how I have been using it lately. I've tried the battery trick, as well as resetting my bios settings. The fact that it works in safemode tells me its not a problem with my video card, or monitor connection. I have also run a virus scanner in safemode.... nothing came up. Any other ideas?

Have you tried changing your resolution? Or do you have a dual monitor setup?
Try uninstalling the video card in safe mode, then restart and see what happens

Hi Guys Im having some trouble with my HP pavilion -e wm laptop with self installed where I push the power button but the primary screen does not come on It used to happen intermittently in between reboots Then it got to the point were I would have to push the power button on and off HP laptop screen with 17-e049wm black pavilion about times to get the monitor to come up Now it just doesn't come up What is funny is if I can get the monitor to work during boot it will never stop working and I can use HP pavilion 17-e049wm laptop with black screen the computer A temporary solution was to never shut down the computer Obviously my computer shut down as it would be still working if I hadn't A major note is that external monitors work absolutely fine Using an external monitor device manager cant even detect that the laptop monitor is there as if it were unplugged Thus there is no monitor tricks such as fn F or win P Some have said to try tricks such as taking out the battery and power plug and removing any possible power from the system by holding down the power button for s m or m Some said to swap around memory sticks in an event that a ram went dead First I must diagnose the part that has failed I am inclined to believe that both the monitor and the vid card are ok as a secondary monitor works and that the primary works sometimes Where do you guys think I should start to begin the diagnosing process The cable between the monitor and video card If so how do I get to it Laptops are not always easy to dissemble Thanks

A:HP pavilion 17-e049wm laptop with black screen

Where I would look would be the backlight of your laptop. Shine a flashlight on the screen once the laptop has booted, and see if you see anything. If it's the backlight, you'll see the familiar Windows screens, although very faintly. If it's not the backlight, you won't see anything reflected.

A backlight problem is usually caused by a bad fluorescent tube on older lappies, or an inverter problem. Newer laptops with LED backlights have different issues, usually in the LED drivers.

It could be something as simple as the screen's ribbon connector to the motherboard has become damaged or has come unplugged from repeatedly opening and closing the laptop.

Try the flashlight trick and report back, please.

Recently installed antivirus on 01/01/2012 because I had some kind of worm/malware. Windows 7 is the OS. Cap lock light is on and "hp combo assistant" light is on constant no blinking. Don't know what to do.

A:hp pavilion dv7-4177nr boot up with black screen

Hello - try a hard reset - firstRemove battery, AC adaptor connection and then hold down the Power button for 30 secs.then reconnect all - see if it boots. if that dont work - try to hit F8 after you power on, you may need to tap the key or hit the ESC key for a menu.then try booting into safemode.from there you can try to do a "Restore" - type restore in search box and run the MS system restore - select a date before your problem started.

Basic steps which should resolve the issue:Turn off the computer.Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.Disconnect the AC power adapterRemove the batteryPress and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds. To drain any residual power, reconnect the AC power adapter, but do not connect the battery.Turn on the computer.Else, try connecting an external monitor to check if you get any display. You can check the following links if the issue still persists for more solutions:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03518165http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04718479  If this has helped you to resolve the issue, please click on "Accept as Solution" on said post. My screen suddenly went very dark, though I am able to faintly see the HP logo at startup. I've tried plugging it into an external monitor, yet I get nothing. I have now replaced both the backlight and the inverter, yet there is no improvement. Is it possible that I have a software or driver problem? I can see (with a flashlight on the screen), that during the startup process a screen comes up that says something about startup repair. Any ideas??

A:Pavilion G60 black/faint screen issue

When you plug into an external monitor, are you remembering the key- combination required to set to external monitor that is on your keyboard?

Laptops do not automatically enable a remote display, you must tell it its there.

Also if you have a removeable video card, the card itself may have died, but it sounds to me like the tube or inverter is either wired backwards, or not getting good power. Do you have brightness/darkness key on your keyboard? Usually looks like a circle, half is black, half is white.

When the laptop is turned on, LEDs, though not all, will light up and sometimes the Optical drive will try to spin up but other wise it acts like it is in a total lock up. It will not even get to the POST. I cant get to the CMOS or anything. I did get it to boot once and it worked for about 2 weeks then started doing it again. So, not video, not HDD as was able to upgrade to Windows 7 when it started working again. RAM has been reset. Only thing I can think of is Power issue which with HP means replacing the mobo. I'm looking for other thoughts on this before I start disecting it.

Thanks,

I'm having problems with my laptop (HP Pavilion dv4 1428dx) the last thing I did was put it to sleep, then cameback and tried to wake it up but it would not start up. All the lights are on, but the screen is black and the only thing I hear is the fan moving. The caps lock and num lock keys have a blinking light, not really sure what that means. The power LED is on, the battery LED is on, but the hard drive LED is not on. This computer is almost 3 years old and I have never had a major problem like this until recently. If anyone has any solutions I would gladly appreciate them.  Thank you for your time,Freshman4002

A:HP Pavilion dv4 1428dx black screen/will not start up

The blink codes state caps lock/num lock because it could be just the caps lock, just the numlock, or both.  If both are blinking, then it counts as one blink for each time.

If it is blinking just one time and pausing for 3-4 seconds, then that indicates the processor POST test failed.  A processor failure usually requires a new processor, but some have been able to open the notebook to reseat the process and apply new thermal paste to get the issue resolved.

If it is under warranty, I would recommend contacting HP for service.

If it is out of warranty, then I would contact HP to get a quote and compare that to the cost of a local PC shop to weigh your options.

Hello! I have a HP pavilion dv6 2088dx laptop that will not power on fully. What I mean is, I get a black screen, no blinking lights for capslock or numlock, and it only seems to make a tiny bit of "powering on" noises. The wifi and sound icons (above the keyboard) both glow red (normally will turn white or blue when fully powered up). I've tried force restarting, plugging in an hdmi cable to my tv (to rule out display issues), removing the battery, removing the hard drive and restarting, even starting it with the memory stick removed. My techie bf is wanting to put the motherboard in my oven, but I thought I'd check with you guys first. (I've been a member here for years, but can't remember my password or email that I used to sign up, but you guys have never steered me wrong!)

Thanks,

Ihave a HP 22xi Pavilion led monitor.  It is about a year old and no warranty left.  It started going to a black screen when in use.  I have to uplug the monitor to get the display to show.  the power light stays on, but will not turn it off.  I saw a few ppl having the same issue, with no success in getting this resolved.  I have tried the external monitor on another laptop and have the same issue.  I have replaced the power AC adapter and also downloaded the drivers for the monitor.  this is very frustrating.  I have tried to reset to factory setting and nothing changes.  It will work for a while, then all of a sudden go to black screen and I have to unplug it from the back.  Please assist..

A:hp pavilion dv6152eu black screen and beeping..Need advice

Get the beep codes from HP tech support... they tell you what is wrong. It is either the Video Card or memory.. or perhaps just dirt and hair around the cpu... as crud stacks up fast in that model.
If you have been using that computer as a gamer, it is definitely the video graphics card.

HP Pavilion beatsaudio - Black screen and wont boot.. getting 5 set of double beeps... Screen stays black... can hear fan noise... after 5 set of double long(abt a second) beeps the power LED stays on, but the caps lock makes double blinks (1 sec gap) after every 3-4 seconds (I think its same as double beep)....  Per support pages, double beep means BIOS issue, so I tried both BIOS resetting options of 1. Holding Windows + B keys and 2. All 4 arrow keys to reset BIOS... didnt work... Then removed the CMOS battery (tested with multimeter and it has 3V power on it) put it back in... still no luck...  Am running out of options now... can anyone suggest any other options or explain me whats going on? TIA...AllPisces

Hi everyone,

I have a HP Pavilion P6-2004nl with Windows 10 running on it.
A couple of days ago i started up my computer, after a long loading screen it gave me a "Corrupted file" message.
Restarted and i never came further than a black screen after the BIOS with a flickering underscore.

I have two HDD's:
Samsung SSD 120GB (Probably windows 10 is installed on this drive, because when i only plug this one it gives the flickering underscore)
SATA HDD 2GB (Gives me a no bootable device found message when i only plug this in)
Anyhow on both harddisks my bootable USB with the windows 10 files installed on it wont boot. And in the bios it shows my Sandisk USB in the plugged drives but not in the boot-menu.
I have Aptio 2.11.1210 BIOS with superlimited options and i have no idea how to boot the windows install disk from my BIOS.

System restarted with black screen after accepting BIOS update recommended by HP assistant this morning. AC power always on for at least three hours waiting after the update process finished successfully with auto restart. Power light is on. Wired broadband light is on. Keyboard CAP lock light and Speaker light are noway responsive.Hard reset was tried 3 times with no improvement.External monitor was connected but no signal was output from the laptop, i.e. black screen. Done several times according to this page to reset the BIOS setting blindly: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02217843 BEEP sounds was heard when pressing F10 or F5 during the procedures. But still Black screen. What can I try further ?  Please kindly advice!

Hello, I received my laptop today from ebay and I expected it to work 100% and the screen is not showing how it is supposed to be. Is there an attempt on fixing this to make it work back to normal? It only shows red on the blacks and light blue one white.

Here is an example:

I would return it ASAP, looks defective to me.

Good luck on your decision

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. So, these are my problems described in the title. I cannot change desktop from black, only can set a picture as a background.

When I am in pictures folder for example, I see blank or black thumbnails.
When I right click and go to personalize, I can see black themes instead of actual pictures.

I tried almost everything.
- reinstalling video driver
- clearing thumbnail from disk cleanup
- resetting dwm.exe
- going into safemode and then restaring into normal windows
- I tried fixing shell by using "fixshell"
- clearing & repairing registry errors
- ran an error checker
- ran a file checker

I have Microsoft Office 2010 - I heard that it could be the issue, but maybe I am not right, anyway...

I attached a print screen photo.

And, I am hopeless, any help please? Thanks

A:Windows 7 black screen, black or blank thumbnails, and black desktop themes

I noticed you're not running Aero. Click on last item, left side - "Troubleshoot problems with transparency...."

Office 2010 should not be a factor here. Public pics folder is empty - it should have sample pics in it.

Validate your OS installation - Genuine Microsoft Software

I think I saw this post aver at Toms but I also think you gave some additional info.
I think what may be going on it during the switch from the windows low res video driver to the driver used in normal mode.

Since you can get into safe mode try to go to device manager.
Start|right click computer|properties|device manager.
Look in the display adapter.
Is there a yellow exclamation mark there?
Or is it showing the video that you know should be there?
Please post the video that the machine uses and or the PB model.

A:Black Screen During WIN 7 POST , Black Screen Even In Safe Mode

What other graphics adapter choices are available in BIOS setup? If you choose Switchable is there software on the Lenovo site for your model that's needed? Are you using the Display adapter software from there?

Have you tested your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by a full Disk Check on a single disk partition you create?

Then work through the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums including trying an alternate install method (disk><flash stick) with new media. These steps overcome almost all install failures, so you'll be reasonably sure the problem is hardware or BIOS settings if nothing works. But don't skip any steps.

Try Clean Install Windows 10 Technical Preview to see if there's any difference with a more modern OS install. It's already a very polished OS and worth testing this.

I have a HP Pavilion 23xi monitor that goes black and seems to lock up about every 30 minutes or so. The power button stops working and the only way to get it back is to unplug the power cord for a few seconds. It does not appear to be a problem with the computer. It just started doing this. It has  worked great for about two years. Is there anyway to fix this issue?  thanks

I have a HP Pavilion 27xi that will randomly turn black and unresponsive.  The way to make it work again is to unplug it from the power source and plug it back in.  When I have gone to reset the monitor to factory settings nothing happens.

A:HP Pavilion 27xi keeps turning black

Of course, I too am having problems with my "HP Pavilion 27xi IPS LED Backlit Monitor". The screen going black for about two minutes and comes back for about 15 minutes. I used a different monitor and it worked fine. A new power brick didn't stop the "cut to black" problem either. All the power/hibernate/sleep functions are set to never. The power light goes out and won't come back on until the screen comes back. This leads me to believe the problem is in the monitor. I also believe it is related to the power section but not the power brick. When it is up, there is nothing to idicate that there is a problem.

I recently purchased a used 22bw monitor. It has the appropriate 12V power block with correctamps power block as per the label on the monitor. It works great for a few minutes and then goes black. If I remove and reinsert the power input from the power block it comes back on and works okfor another few minutes. Could just keep doing this but that would be a bit lame. The system Iam using is a Lenovo I-5 without a seperate video card and the Windows 7 Pro OS. I have turnedoff all sleep settings in Windows and in the monitor itself but it still goes black after a few minutesno matter whether I am watching video or just typing. Could this be a bad power inverter. I havefixed other lcd monitors by replacing capacitors but I doubt that is the issue here. Any ideas? Thanks very much.

Hello @STASC, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.I understand that you are having issues with the HP Pavilion 22bw Backlit Monitor not staying on. I am providing you with some steps for you to try below: Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wallStep 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minuteStep 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitorStep 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it If the issue persists after this you can try the monitor on another computer to see if it continues. If it does it appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.

A:Startup screen flickers to black, then all black screen

That is weird situation I'd say. I am unsure what actually is the issue here, perhaps one way of finding what may be happening is having a look at your Event Viewer Logs. You can find Event Viewer, in Control Panel, Administrative Tools.

Also please follow these 8-steps, and post your logs at Malware and Virus Removal Forum for analysis. Regards

Hi there,

Am using a Dell Inspiron 6400 with XP. It'd been running ridiculously slowly recently so I started an AVG scan and AVG immediately threw up a file, which I then deleted, then I got a "fatal error" message flash up. Since then I havent been able to get to the log in screen, it merely goes to the black screen with cursor, and Safe Mode is just a black screen with Safe Mode in each corner. Ctrl Alt Del also doesnt work in Safe Mode for some reason, and I have no CD. Ho ho.

Anything I can do to fix this?

Thanks

Hello So on my computer something strange happens when I uninstall UxStyle It Black Post-Windows Flashing Black Screen Update UxStyle has broken my Windows install once and it has done it again The UxStyle Black Flashing Post-Windows Update Black Screen first time I kept on doing system restores to see what was the problem that made that black screen After trial and error I narrowed it down to UxStyle So I deleted Windows and installed Windows which is what I wanted in the first place Now I decided to triple-boot Windows with Vista and and it has succeeded I reinstalled UxStyle thinking it was just a problem with my old Windows install and then uninstalled it after a few days since I felt like the regular look was better I rebooted Windows and the same effect happened So I would like to know if I can get and replace those three patched DLLs with unpatched DLLs for Windows Could I just change the broken ones to have old next to them and then place the ones I get here there Also would sfc scannow work

A:UxStyle Black Flashing Post-Windows Update Black Screen

Hello lct01a, and welcome to Eight Forums.

A sfc /scannow will attempt to repair any modified or corrupted system files, so that would be a good first step.

Overclocking -
I recommend if you are overclocking any hardware, that you reset these values within the BIOS to their default values in order to increase the stability of your system.

Please run the following tests for your graphics card and RAM:
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Run Memtest86+ for least 7-8 passes, and preferrly overnight as it can take a while to fully complete.

Test each RAM stick individually, if an error is found then move the same RAM stick into the next DIMM slot and test again, if errors are found for the same RAM stick in every available slot then you have a faulty RAM module. On the other hand, if no errors are found in the next slot or the other slots for the same RAM module, then you have a faulty DIMM slot.

Test each RAM stick and every motherboard DIMM slot available.

Graphics Card:Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Read all the steps within the hardware test tutorials very carefully, as stress tests is designed run components to their maximum capacity, in order to point out failing or faulty hardware components.

Use the following program to monitor your hardware temperatures during the stress test:CPUID HWMonitor
Hard Drive:Disk Check
CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World
SeaTools for Windows | Seagate
Scan for corrupted or missing Windows files with:SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

A black dot 1" in diameter and some black smears have appeared on the bottom right corner of my screen. I believe whatever page I have up is ok behind it. And I think it is getting bigger. Monitor is a Dell 19 " Analog Flat Panel. Maybe it is finished.

I use XP Home Edition. I was trying to change my desktop appearance, and clicked on "My current theme" under the themes tab. My desktop changed to all black, including the lettering; just the icons are there, but they are tiny, as if the resolution was changed to the highest setting. I tried getting back to the desktop properties, but since the lettering is black I cannot read anything and I don't know where to click to change anything. Is there a keyboard shortcut I could use or some other way I can get back to a normal screen? I no longer have the XP disk, so cannot reformat.

When I turn on my computer, it's all fine until after I login. I get these patches of small black rectangles all over my screen which stay above windows and everything (see attatched photo). I located it down to being an issue with dwm.exe as the boxes go away when I end that task. I just don't know how I should go about repairing this issue. I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

Do you have a backup you can restore from?
do you have a win 7 dvd, to do a repair install?

Hey I need immediate help!

It's my sis' previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:

Administrator
Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000
username1
username2

Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help quick, she uses it a lot. Thank anybody so much..

Overheating graphics card? Check its fan, if any, cooling fins, and air flow. Move other cards away if possible.

Corrupted codecs? Many "packs" contain substandard codecs.

A:Black Screen/Blank screen after screen replacement

Not all laptop screens are the same. It is important to get a "replacement" screen, not a "compatible" one.

On the back of the laptop screen is a product sticker (you can only read this before you install the screen). On that sticker is the manufacturer and model #. You can use that number to find exact replacements.

How did you come to choose the LG screen?

Hi Everyone As the title says about i have a Dell Vostro and im running Windows with a bit It is only years only It started about a month ago I was on my laptop viewing and Black screen. Vostro login screen Dell reach Wont 1520. deleting some unwanted photos i had A few minutes later Dell Vostro 1520. Black screen. Wont reach login screen i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo When i went back to my photos and went into the album it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder Please press continue to get full permission I clicked continue and i got the access i should have Now i tried many more random folders and the same Dell Vostro 1520. Black screen. Wont reach login screen thing happened Also when i came Dell Vostro 1520. Black screen. Wont reach login screen out of the folders the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on The laptop will power on like normal I can press f for the boot options which i have already tried many times I also tried it in safe mode and what-not but still nothing I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine So after the Dell logo on the screen it goes black and stays that way with the cursor You can move the cursor around no problem I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile Its flashing orange and blue I m wondering if this has anything to do with the battery Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in One more thing The LED lights over the buttons None of the are flashing besides one on the far left And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for It looks like a battery to me Any advice would be so great The way it is now i don t care about the laptop I really want to hope i can save my pictures and videos i have on there nbsp

A:Dell Vostro 1520. Black screen. Wont reach login screen

Since its a laptop the harddrive is easy to pull out and remove. If you have or can get a usb sata/ide connector hook the drive to that and then to another computer if you have one so you can save all of your important data like pix, music, etc.The laptop battery is going to have to be replaced since its no longer charging properly. It sounds like there might be a short somewhere or a power supply problem along with a bad battery.Or possibly something might be wrong with the screen or video or graphics card.

Hello I am trying to fix an HP G - DX Notebook PC Operating to safe From then screen screen and lock blue blink black mode, caps sys Win bit AMD Turion tm II Dual-Core Processor GB GHz I had this laptop since December of and on June of is when I used my notebook PC and was initially of no use I have been working on my laptop on and off since I am not afraid to open the sucker up and get this thing up and running The problem started out with what most ppl call it the quot blue screen of death quot Like most ppl I did ignore the blue screen and did a restart which brought me to the normal Windows screen From blue screen to safe mode, then black screen and caps lock blink and then it would start back up just fine I found this in Device From blue screen to safe mode, then black screen and caps lock blink Manager s Hidden Files Non-Plug and Play Drivers - ehdrv - epfwwfp - Security Processor Loader Driver I am not sure if it has anything to do with what it was the blue screen situation but I tried searching on the net on what it all meant and to see if I was able to fix it but before I was able to do something about it the blue screen kept From blue screen to safe mode, then black screen and caps lock blink popping up and it was getting worse The problem progressed to where on Windows startup it would just stop there blue screen would pop up and of course I had to restart it and do an F key press for Safe Mode I had to work on Safe Mode for a good couple of weeks before I can figure out the problem s I believe I had went into the system and found out it had something to do with some kind of error sigh I did write it down but that was like a month ago and I am unable to locate my notes It s frustrating being careless Any way my notebook PC will not start at all I did remove the battery and left the adapter plugged in to removing the adapter and doing a hard reset no justice The notebook would sound like it is about to start but all you can hear is the fan running and the lights with the caps lock blink sequence of ONCE every - seconds no beeping sound I may have changed something though I went as far as learning how to properly with the static free bracelette unscrewed the laptop apart to see if cleaning the fan would be the cause of it Nothing happened but instead of the caps lock blinking ONCE every - seconds it would blink TWICE every - seconds So I went back and checked if everything was put back together memory stick and such and now when i restart it it would BEEP times and the caps lock would blink THRICE every - seconds And so here I am Please help nbsp
