I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have got myself into a bit of a mess.

I installed my version of windows starter on my mom's PC which was previously running vista. To see if it improved the performance or if the laptop itself was rubbish. It did so I purchased an upgrade to windows home premium. When I enter the upgrade key it says I need the current key is invalid for upgrade and that I need to phone a number. Does this mean the software I brought is useless. I didn't want to buy a disc as I had read that using a upgrade key meant everything was kept. Is there anyway I can use the software I've brought. The computer recognises the key as an upgrade one.
Thanks.

You can not use the Windows Starter from your Notebook on your mother PC.
Doing so would be a invalid upgrade.

I cannot download Microsoft Word Starter 2010 - I keep getting a message saying that I am not connected to the internet - although I am and all other programs are working.

A:Microsoft Starter 2010

A common problem from what I've heard. Here's the suggested fix:

1. click on Start

2. Type "appwiz.cpl" and press enter.

3. Check if Microsoft Office 2010 is in the list, you'll need it later.

4. Click on Microsoft Office Starter 2010 and select "Remove". This will open the standard uninstaller of Office 2010.

5. Click on Yes in the window that just popped up.

6. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office 2010.

7. Click on "Use", and in the next window, click on "Open". This will re-install Microsoft Office Starter 2010.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi: Office 2010 Starter only installs on PC's with W7 (which is what your PC came with originally). It would still work if you upgraded from W7 to W10 and it was installed on W7, but now that you have installed W10, it won't work. There are free Office-type programs out there that will read and edit MS Office files. I like this one for example... http://www.ksosoft.com/downloads/windows

After the Recovery, I lost my Microsoft Office Starter for word, anyone know where I could download one? Thank-you

A:Where to download microsoft Office Starter

Hello ZenUser,

I understand you looking to download Microsoft Office starter.

If you did a recovery with the built in recovery partition or recovery disk created from the system or purchased from HP. You should be able to go to start, all programs, scroll down to Microsoft Office 2010 click it, and then a box should come up and give you 3 options. Click on Use office starter 2010 which should be the 3rd option. From there just follow the prompts.

Again this will all depend on how you did the recovery.

Let me know if this helps you.

Thanks

Have you actually tried what it suggested by running a repair? Go to Control Panel, Programs, Programs & Features, and then locate Starter 2010 in the list. If it works the same as the other versions of office, you should see three options at the top, i.e. Organize, Uninstall and Change. Click on Change. When the window opens, click on Repair, and then follow the prompts from there.

Good Morning,

I recently bought a new computer and it came with Microsoft Office Starter. Using Microsoft Word Starter I made a document showing some items I collect in one column and what I paid for them in another column. I finished and saved it. This morning when I went to look at it the items they were not lined up from side to side like I had them. I need to do it again and was wondering what I did wrong. Also there is a space between the lines about a 1/2 tall. Is there a way I can shorten that up like the text you are reading here? With the big gap between lines it takes two pieces of paper to print the same amount that could be on one page. Thanks for any help you can give me.

A:Upgrade Vista AND Win 7 Starter?

Hello Dave,

If you could find one, you could get a Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack Upgrade that will allow you to install and activate on up to 3 computers at the same time. This can save you a litte bit.

Here's a Google search of some retailers showing that they still have it:

If not, then yes you will need to have a separate license for each computer that you install it on.

I use Word Starter on Windows 7 and want to remove the Microsoft advertising panel on the right of the screen which takes up too much space . On the left is a "navigation" panel which I can close but I can't find any way of getting rid of the one on the right . It's headed up " Get Started" but is an advertising block currently pushing Office 365 but is an unnecessary distraction which I don't want . Am I stuck with this as part of the Word Starter package ??

I have an Acer Aspire One 725-C62kk which came with Microsoft Office Starter 2010, which I have been very happy with for the last few years.  After I (foolishly?) downloaded Windows 10, Office Starter was on the list of apps to re-load but without a live link.  Can I re-load Office Starter 2010 from your web site?  I have all the serial numbers, product key, etc from the back of my computer, if you need them.  Thank you for your help.

I recently fixed my webcam on my HP 320-1010a All-in-one PC by performing a recovery. However now my Microsoft Office Starter Pack software will not run. When the icon is pressed it loads then goes into the set up mode but after a few minutes returns a error message that it cannot set itself up and to try again. I did that several times but to no avail. Please help!!!!

Here are some tips for those who are playing around with MS Office Starter Microsoft Office Edition Tips Starter Microsoft Office Starter Tips and Tricks Excel Microsoft Office Starter Edition Tips Starter Beyond Basics In this week s Tips and Tricks article we are going to focus on three features in Excel Starter that allow for quite a bit of utility When thinking about using Excel Starter to create Microsoft Office Starter Edition Tips a family budget for instance these features should help you go beyond the basics Let s get started Define Name Define Name is a feature to name a cell or a series of cells to later be used in a formula Not only does this allow you to reference a series of cells easily it helps define them to make it easier to remember understand and reuse them Start Microsoft Office Starter Edition Tips by opening Excel Starter In our example we have created a list of Expenses Select this table then go to the Formulas tab and click Define Name Then type a name into the Name textbox that defines the list and click OK Once you have done this you can use the Define Name in other formulas like this SUM formula Conditional Formatting Conditional Formatting allows you to set Excel Starter to format particular cells based on the data that is present There are a number of rules you can set We re going to start with an example table of the NFL standings Begin by highlighting the cells you are interested in then from the Home tab select Conditional Formatting In this example we have selected the Percent column and indicated that we want them to be formatted with a Light Red Fill with Dark Red Text when the value is less than or We finish by clicking OK Conditional Formatting is really great because not only are there a number of different rules that be applied to the formatting but if those values in those cells change the Conditional Formatting is still realized In other words if suddenly a team below a win ratio wins games in a row and is now above a ratio the cell will no longer be formatted Custom Sort Using the same table of NFL standings we re going to explore Custom Sort Start by highlighting an entire table and then from the Home tab select Sort amp Filter and then Custom Sort The dialog box shown below will pop up letting you decide how to sort the table For instance this first sort is based on the Percent column and has sorted the team with the best win percentage to the top This custom sort below has sorted alphabetically based on the team name Wrap Up We hope you have enjoyed this Office Starter Tips and Tricks With these beyond the basics skills you will have a much easier time keeping your information organized color coded and sorted It is all built into Office Starter Thanks for reading Microsoft Corporation All rights reserved

Uninstall/reinstall the Office suite.  Then add any security updates and SPs that have been issued for that version.

Hi @bikerinva?,  Microsoft Office Starter 2010, was it a preinstalled application or Have you purchased the License copy of it. if it was preinstalled, chances are it might be the Trial version. And you may download the same from Internet. If it was Licensed, you may go to below link and download the same.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/office  I hope that answers your question.  I am an HP employee, the opinions expressed here are my personal opinions, not of HP. Make it easier for other people to find solutions, by marking my answer ?Accept as Solution? if it solves your problem. ***Click on "Thumbs up" button to the left side of my post to acknowledge the post ***

A:Microsoft Office Starter 2010 Won't Open

Hi jmrpjb,

Please double-check if the program that you uninstalled is 'Word Starter 2010' or 'Office Starter 2010'? Please share the exact steps that you performed to uninstall it.

You may also try the following steps to repair the 'Office Starter' in the mean while:
- Click 'Control Panel' > 'Programs' > 'Programs and Features' > Locate 'Microsoft Office Starter - English' > 'Right click' it and select 'Change' > Select 'Repair' > Follow through with the repair process

- If the issue persists, you may also try to uninstall 'Click to run' and configure 'Office Starter' again: "Cannot be opened" error when you start an Office Starter 2010 program.

'Office Starter 2010' is a 'factory installed' program that may not be re-installed. If any vital file has been accidentally deleted; or the program could not be repaired by the above mentioned steps, you may have to try to restore the system settings back to 'factory defaults'.

You may want to have a close look at the following article also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982434

Hope this helps. Please share the findings; will take it forward.

HI all,
I have an EEE pc 1015b 5 months old and have already upgraded the RAM to 2 gigs because it ran soooo slowly when I got it. It came with wondows 7 starter - can I upgrade to the proper windows 7 (would like the media player options) without losing even more performance. It's still pretty slow and freezes if it has to do too much - like use our 32" tv as a monitor to show pictures or videos.
Any advice about the upgrade - or about why it freezes and what I can do about that would be great.

I know it is starter, but I still believe there is a view option somewhere -at least I hope-!

A:Where is the view option in Microsoft Office Starter 2010?

I am afraid the answer is no. Office Starter is feature-limited product.
That's why there is Purchase button on Home tab.

A:Microsoft Office starter 2010 compatibly issues

Short answer- you cant.

Long answer- Starter is only for win7. More importantly, Starter is legally usable only when it comes preinstalled on oem computers preinstalled with win7. So you're also breaching the eula.

Hello,

With my Windows 7 Home Premium I use Microsoft Word Starter 2010, which came preloaded to my laptop. I save much information in it's standard 'document' page. When I click on a saved document, after about 5 seconds it displays the small window "Microsoft Word Starter 2010" and goes through some process, telling me it is 'starting', 'processing' and takes a further 10 to 20 seconds for the actual document to open. This happens even when opening a blank document. Is there any way that I can speed up the opening of a document.

Regards.

Hi: Try reinstalling it. I have zipped up and attached the install file below. You have to be connected to the internet in order to run the file. Download, unzip and double click to run the file. It will contact the Microsoft Office 2010 Starter download site, and download and install Office Starter 2010. I don't know if you have to uninstall your current version or not. Try it without uninstalling it and if it doesn't work then I guess you can uninstall it and redownload the program.

Hello forum.

On my way to downgrade Win10 back to 7, on my Satellite Toshiba U840, found out that my serial number for windows 7 was for Starter Retail version.
That is odd because i remember that my windows 7 was 64bit and supported all of the windows features,
in comparison to what Starter Retail provides. I ran alot of graphic programs on 3 years ago...

Is it possible to upgrade the retail version to any Win 7 64 bit version?

Thank you for your time!

A:How to upgrade Win Next Starter Retail 32bit To any Win 7 64bit ver

Windows 7 Starter was only available in 32bit.

Most people will be happy with Windows 7/64 Home Premium.
To go from a 32 bit Windows 7 to a 64 bit Windows 7 you will need to do a Clean Install.

We need your system spec to get a idea whether a 32 or 64 bit would be best.

Please use this tutorial by Brink to help you fill in your specs.

I'm quite sure this is not illegal since the upgrade is automatic and happens without a choice.

I had starter on my netbook and tried upgrading it by using the app on the OS itself but failed.

One day I was searching for TV tuners and came across Media Portal. During the course of the installation it tells you it is better to have windows aero enabled for "tear" effects. I dismissed the dialog and installed it.

I check the OS later and voila it's upgraded, apps such as windows media center and all games like chess titans etc came out of nowhere. Also all the themes etc. I checked SYSTEM and found the OS name changed to home premium from starter.
Try it !

I bought an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows 7 Starter on it, and I have a Windows 7 Ultimate installation DVD that I want to use to upgrade my netbook's OS. I put the DVD into an external DVD drive connected to my netbook with a USB cable and started the installation wizard. I chose the "Upgrade" option and the installer said that I need to use Windows Anytime Upgrade for that. The problem with that is that I don't want to buy a new license, since I already have this DVD. How can I upgrade my netbook's OS from Windows 7 Starter to Ultimate with the DVD I already have?
Thanks in advance.

A:Upgrade from Windows 7 Starter to Ultimate with regular DVD

Use Anytime Upgrade: Type "Anytime" in Start Search box to start the Process, insert your Ultimate Product Key, the extra features will be unlocked in just a few minutes.

Be sure to make your Acer Recovery Disks first, or save a Win7 backup image so you have a path back to the licensed OS on that machine. You may decide you want to move your retail Win7 Ultimate to another machine. You may also find a cheaper Ultimate Anytime Upgrade key.

I have a Samsung Netbook which came with Windows 7 Starter and I am finding that I miss the extras of Home Premium Retail which installed on my Desktop PC. I have the Home Premium installation disk which I used, but as far as I am aware it is a single use licence.

The Anytime Upgrade is available on the Samsung, but at a cost of ?70 from M$.
Is anyone aware of a more cost effective (legitimate) method?

Having Googled for it, I come up with this:
Microsoft Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade, Starter to Home Premium (Licence only): Amazon.co.uk: Software.
Anyone know of anywhere better?

A:Upgrade Windows 7 Starter to Home Premium

Yes, buy the home premium family family pack- you'll spend more initially but you'll get 3 retail licenses @ about $50 each.

If you do decide to do that, save an image of your starter install first.

Most OEM's can provide a ms office 2010 starter dvd if you ask them.

I just got an Acer Aspire netbook with w7 starter. Although I plan on using it for just the basics, Im told that 7 Starter doesn't different backgrounds, DVD playback (via an external DVD drive, which I'd have to buy), and Windows media layer.

My question: What do I need to run Windows 7 home? OR can I achieve what I mentioned above without upgrading?

what I got:
OS:32bit win 7 starter
intel atom N270
1gb memory
storage: 160GB HDD

-I don't know much about this little computer, but I got a day or two to take it back of it wont do the job. Any advice would be great.

-I got more feedback in the Auto thread over what I drove, than actual computer related tech advice lol

I have 2 netbooks with windows7 starter edition on them, I reently purchased an upgrade family pack from Ebay and mistakenly didn't releaze it was software to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows7 Home Premium edition. Before I break the seal, I was wondering if this would work, can I use this upgrade software(Vista to Windows7 Home Premium), to upgrade my windows7 starter edition to full Home Premium or will it not work correctly.
I appreciate any help offered.
Thanks

So I recently bought a product key for Windows Anytime Upgrade, so I can get rid of Win7 Starter on my netbook and get Windows 7 Home Premium. I start the Anytime Upgrade software and it works great, but fails as the upgrade gets around 90%, at which the upgrade process "fails" and restores the OS to Windows 7 Starter. I've looked at a few guides that gave solutions, but I've had no luck. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this working?

The only thing I can find in the upgrade log that looks suspicious is:

Error: WAU | Failed to create WAU event due to error 0x5

Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this to work? Thanks.

(I will give more infos if needed)

A:Windows Anytime Upgrade Failure; Starter to Home Premium (32 bit)

Try rebooting to run it again to see if it corrects itself.

Next try a clean boot: In msconfig>Startup uncheck everything (add AV back later), then do the same in msconfig>Services after Hiding all MS services. Reboot several times to make sure nothing sneaks back in, or turn it off in its Program Preferences or Uninstall it. One more reboot, try AU.

Microsoft word starter using windows 10 opens my files occasionally in read only format and I have tried just about every suggestion in your forum within my limited skills but I offer this in the hope it might help - I notice it is most likely to occur
if opening a file from within the software, if one steps outside and opens it from the desktop it is more unlikely to happen.  When previously using compatibility mode it did not happen but that did not like files that contained any downloaded pictures
with the hyperlink still active. When re-opening them subsequently they could not be edited until clicking on "edit now" which is why I used the

conversion option only to get this problem which is annoying and not good enough.

Hello,
I bought a netbook a while back with Windows 7 Starter.

I had an extra upgrade key of 7 Home Premium from one of those 3 pack family upgrades so I upgraded the netbook and put the key in.

I want to reformat the netbook back to Windows 7 Starter and just use it's original Starter key it came with. Home Premium bogged it down too much.

My question is...

Is there a way I can reuse the upgrade key of 7 Home Premium on another computer or did I waste the license by putting it on the netbook?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Is there a way to run Win2000 Setup as an upgrade to a previous version of Windows from the command prompt?

Is there a way to run Win2000 Setup as an upgrade to a previous installation of Windows 2000 from the command prompt--in other words, installing it over itself without losing settings and drivers (like you can do with Windows 9x & ME)?

A:Can Win2000 Setup run as upgrade from command prompt?

Please clarify something:

Do you want to install Win2k as an upgrade to a PREVIOUS version of Windows, or do you want to REinstall Win2k OVER an existing version of Win2k?

As long as you can copy the files from the i386 folder on the Win2k CD AND you have a Win9.x bootdisk, you CAN do an UPGRADE from the command line, but it IS somewhat complicated. I won't be able to advise you further until you can clarify EXACTLY what it is you are trying to do.

So obviously windows is pushing the alerts hard to upgrade to windows 10, but I don't want anything to do with windows 10

So how do I permanently disable the alert to upgrade to win10?

Also a big issue with 10 is the tracking they are implementing and are also pushing this tracking into win7 - so how do I disable these new win10 style tracking/data collection abilities?

And I'd also like to setup win7 to just install major updates to avoid it resetting these changes within my win7 install with "regular" updates?

Hi there, spreading this a little wider to see whether anyone else has experienced the same issue and whether anyone has found a workaround. Disabled strong security on the cert works around the issue as the prompt will not occur without strong security
enabled.
Summary of issue:
When using Internet Explorer 11 on 2012 R2 with RDS or Citrix
and "Enable Strong Security" is set on a Personal Certificate, the prompt to ALLOW or DON'T ALLOW the application (in this case IE11) to access the certificate appears in another users session.
