I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

With the amount of information given I have to say the best advice I can give is install the driver.

Might want to check out the link in my signature.

I few days ago I installed a 3 port 1394 PCI card on my mobo, along with a 4 port USB card. Windows acknowledged the hardware, but could or would not load any drivers for the 1394 card. In device manager I kept getting the "unknown device" yellow question mark. After numerous attempts to find drivers for the 1394 card, I finally removed it and sent it back for a refund. The USB card works fine.

I still have the "unknown device" showing up in device manager. Is there anyway to remove this, and if so, where do I look?

A:[SOLVED] yellow question mark in Device Manager

What happens if you uninstall the device from Device Manager and restart?

Does the Unknown Device reappear.

Ethernet Driver Trouble, Still a Question Mark in Device Manager

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have Windows 2000 Professional on my a20p IBM thinkpad.
Just tried installing a driver for the ethernet card in the laptop.
Installed the driver, restarted the computer, and everything is hunky-dory until...
I go to the device manager and it still says a Question Mark next to Ethernet Controller.

Is there anything extra I should have done? Where do I go from here to get internet on my computer? Please help. Thanks

The error codes you get are common when the device driver is not installed correctly or cannot initiate.

It would help to know what the exact hardware configuration is that you are attempting.

The Asus P5K-Deluxe motherboard has 2 LAN controllers. Are you trying to get them both to work?

Or are you adding a second PCI card to the machine? If so, what is the brand and model number?

There is a yellow exlamation mark beside the primary and secondary Ide channel in device manager. It says in the device manager dialog box
"The device cannot find enough free resources that it can use, if you want to use this device you will need to disable one of the other devices in the system"

I've tried uninstalling both Ide channels in device manager and rebooting but same thing happens.

Modem does not work as well which I presume is a result of first problem.

What should I do? Your help would be much appreciated.

If this is on a new installation, you may not have installed chipset drivers . . check your manufacturers website or a cd that may have come with the board.

I have two DVD drives connected to an XP desktop computer, however, the do not work.

They appear in Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives with a yellow shreik/exclamation mark preceding the listing.

The devices are also recognized in the BIOS setup.

When I click on the device in Device Manager, I get the message"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)".

One of the devices previously worked correctly. In fact, I completed a clean install of XP using it.

Just what does the error message mean? Does it mean that the devices are faulty & need to be replaced?

What is the solution to this problem?

2. Enter "regedit.exe" and press "Enter".

3. When regedit starts, open up the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/system/currentcontrolset/control/class/
{4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}.

4. After clicking on {4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"upperfilters"
"lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press "Delete" key and click "Yes".

Or you can download this reg file to do the same thing.

Use CDGone Variant if the other didn't work or you once had Roxio, but use the other one first.

How about the make/model of the machine and/or motherboard. Also, what SPECIFICALLY do you see in error in Device Manager. Please provide a screen shot.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I decided to uninstall the graphics driver and disable a few things I don't use like VGA webcam etc.. and restarted and ran the performance index again , it now is right where it usually is , rating went up .

Is this OK and normal or what do you think is going on.  I have Intel's integrated graphics

Do not worry what Performance manager states.  Microsoft finally realized that they came out with a false tool, and finally removed it from 8.1.  If you want to know how your system stands to others, then you need to run a performance comparison Bencmark tool like Passmark.  http://www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm  Here is a list of five free Benchmarking tools.  http://www.howtogeek.com/111733/how-to-benchmark-your-windows-pc-5-free-benchmarking-tools/  SiSoftware Sandra has always been one of the better freebies, and has been around for a long time.

A:Device Manager question

have you tried right clicking and selecting update driver? It is not likely it will find something on the internet (microsoft update), but if you have a driver cd (usually you get one with a new PC), make sure it is in the CD-drive so it will be searched for updates. You should not delete it, it is a piece of hardware for which your PC cannot find the right driver. I had something like this and let it like that for a year before I updated it (using the CD, as explained above). This is a good tutorial that explains you how to update hardware-drivers.

I have this system (see below). In Device Manager, I have question marks against: + Other Devices. When I expand the +, there are two devices which have the question marks: 1. SM Bus Controller and 2. Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller. How can I get rid of these question marks? I know these devices have not been probably installed properly. I occasionally connect USB devices like SONY Digital camera, webcam, flash-memory stick, etc to my USB ports, but these are not permanently connected. Thanx for any help.

A:Question marks in Device Manager

For the USB problem , if your computer is equipt with a USB 2.0 all you need is to install service pack 2 and then let windows "reinstall " the driver for it.
For the SM Bus Controller , look for a driver either on the web site of the manufacturer of your mobo or manufacurer of your puter if you bought it from a retail store.

Another folder Hard disk controllers Opened up shows

#2 Primary IDE controller [dual fifo]
#3 Secondary IDE controler [Dual Fifo]

What the heck is this stuff and how should it be set up?
It looks like my hard drive is set up in the disk drives folder under Generic IDE disk type 46.

So why is their a second folder with the bus master controller?

Should I just stay out of there before I mess something up again

A:Device Manager error question

A yellow exclamation mark indicates whether a driver for a device is missing or it is not working properly. Installing the Intel Chipset drivers also install any missing drivers for the Mother Board's built in devices such as USB, Bluetooth, Card Reader etc...
so you are OK.

A blue question mark: if you click on it, you'll get the explanation. Sometimes it indicates no driver is required for the device but yet it still functions properly or if you have an outdated drivers etc...

Hope this helps.

Using the device Manager in WinXP, a right-click on various devices gives me the option to "update the driver....."

Is the update done through a system scan, then downloaded from the Internet, or is it compared to the Windows pre-loaded library of device drivers?

Thanks.

Hi Pat,

To give you an idea of what just one HP printer all-in-one model 1315
comprises from the Device Manager on my computer:

1. DoT4 HPZ12
hp psc 1310 series (DOT4)
2. DoT4Print HPZ12
hp psc 1310 series (DOT4PRT)
3. Dot4Usb HPZ12
hp psc 1310 series (DOT4USB)
4. Imaging devices
hp psc 1310 series
5. Univeral Serial Bus controllers
USB Composite Device
USB Printing Support
6. USBNULL HPO08
psc 1310 series (DOT4PRINT)

Given you have two HP printers, I would expect more than what I have which is what it appears you have!

I have this system (see below). In Device Manager, I have question marks against: + Other Devices. When I explan the +, there are two devices which have the question marks: 1.

I'm using a compaq presario v6000. Any help would be great.

A:I've got 3 yellow question marks in device manager.

If your board is an Intel D 101GGC

Input your operating system here;

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2229

click on GO and it will take you to a page with all the drivers for the D 101GGC board.

If your board is an Intel D 101GGC2

Input your operating system here;

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2367

click on GO and it will take you to a page with all the drivers for the D 101GGC2 board.

NOTE: With either board the chipset driver should be the 1st driver you install.

Hi.
I recently re-installed XP SP2 after a crash.
In device manager under "Other devices" there are (4)items that have a yellow question mark.
"Multimedia Controller"
"PCI Simple Communications Controller"
"PCI Simple Communications Controller"
"SM Bus Controller"
(driver unknown, no date, no version, not digitally signed under properties on all (4) drivers) When I try to update the drivers, (all 4) items get the same results. XP Hardware Update Wizard says: "Cannot Install this Hardware"
"The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software" I tried getting drivers from Intel with no luck, the chipset installed is Intel G965 Express
Thanks.

Hello,

Still trying to find out why the Ports, Coms, etc don't show anywhere in Device Manager.

I noticed an old Post where it said to look in add/Remove Hardware.
Where do I find this Add/Remove Hardware option, please ?

There was also a Post to check the BIOS for this and to see if PORTS is set to Auto.
How, please.

And, if anyone has any thoughts on how to have the Ports show up in Device Manager, would be appreciative. I am fairly certain that at one time they did.
Can't imagine what might have happened.

Thanks,
Bob

A:Add/Remove Hardware, & Device manager Question, Please

Devices and Printers is probably what you are looking for to add a device. My Device Manager shows "Ports (COM &LPT)" This is in Windows 7. I notice you have XP and don't remember where it is in XP. Posting in an XP forum would probably be better than this Windows 7 forum.

Morning all, how are we? ? ?

Yesterday i had to format my computer and reload windows back on.

Done everything pretty successfully but there seems to be 2 things in Device Manager that have Yellow Question marks beside them -

* Mutlimedia Controller
* Multimedia Video Controller

I havent a clue where to get these from, i have a Dell Dimension 2400 PC, tried the driver disk but doesnt seem to install any drivers to get rid of these, have tried various drivers from dell's official site, and also tried a benchmarking software to see if it would tell me the type of files/drivers that i need, but again, no joy there.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

Thanks.

But now I cannot connect to the internet, and when I checked Device manager, under the "Other devices" their are 8 yellow question marks.

Ethernet Controller
Ethernet Controller
Modem Device in High Definiton Audio Bus
SM Bus Controller

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Since i cannot connect to the internet on that pc, I have no idea what to do.

Hi: Please post the hardware ID for the PCI Device so I can figure out what driver it needs. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the PCI Device. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the PCI Device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hi,
I am new to the forum.
I installed win xp on top of win 7 following instructions on the forum, on my Dell Inspiron 1520.
I have restored all the drivers that I have backed up (I used to have win xp before win 7, I uninstalled it but backed up the drivers before formatting the win xp drive).
Now there is no audio and the device has an exclamation mark in device properties.
Audio is working ok on Win 7.
I don't know what to do now. Any help will be appreciated.
Also, another quick question: Can win xp run the programmes installed on the win 7 partition or they need to be installed separately?
cheers

A:no audio and the device has an exclamation mark

If the audio device has an exclamation mark in Device Manager, it means that the correct audio drivers are not installed. Right click on the device and click on Update driver software. Let it go online and update the driver. If that doesnt work, identify the correct driver and download and install.
Do you have a dual boot setup with xp on one partition and win7 on another? In that case, no, xp cannot run the programs installed on 7 and vice versa. You need to install them separately.

OK, that is exactly what I thought it was in the first place...the Intel HD Audio chip. Try manually installing the driver I posted as follows.  If you have not deleted the file I posted, go to the device manager and click on the HD audio device needing the driver. Click on the Driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp72370. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way. Then restart the PC. If you did delete the file, download and run the driver again, close out of the error window and follow the above procedure. I see the hardware ID you posted as supported in the driver file, so it should work.

A:Blue question mark over E Drive it seems like its gone

It's possible that the disk-drive is logically divided into both 'C:' and 'D:' partitions. That would make your CD/DVD drive as the 'E:' drive. So, put a disk into the CD/DVD drive, to see if your computer will be able to read it.

Copy and paste your dxdiag to the forum. Also, if you can, provide the video card make and model. We can further diagnose your issue from there.

If you can't provide the card information, if it is completely stock, provide the make and model of your pc. We can probably find the card info/the motherboard information (if it is integrated video).

Hello :

When I press the shift and question mark in Gmail I get an E with an acute accent mark, instead of a question mark. In my notepad and wordperfect programs, the problem does not occur : pressing shift and the question mark at the same time get me the usual question mark..

Could someone tell me how to regain the question mark in my gmail?

Thank you,
Robert

A:Solved: Eacute instead of question mark

I found a resolution when I saw a google site that indicated a solution I had previously tried unsuccessfully : holding down the shift and control keys at the same time : it required one to hold down the control and shift keys. However, in my case anyway, I could only get it to work by holding them down for about 11 seconds!

So, the solution is to hold down the shift and control key simultaneously for an extended length of time. And in my case it was very extended!

The problem has nothing to do with having installed the wrong keyboard, which is what many would have one think.

For some reason the problem and the solution apply only when using Gmail. Notepad and other programs seem to work normally (as long as you have the proper keyboard installed).

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Langid=1&Level=5&PFid=6&PNid=6>
or www.RealTek.com or www.eMachines.com

Look for the RealTek RTL8139/810X Network Driver, version 2.1.22.1026 or higher. It will be about 3.78 MB or a bit more.

It will come with installation instructions.

It is usually a very easy, and very good network connection.
With the eMachine computer shut down and unplugged, remove the side of the case, and take out the

Hello,
I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP pro, with 3 partitions. Recently I partitioned my hardrive for installing linux. After using linux for sometime, I deleted the partition using partition magic and redistributed the free space amongst the other partitions. When I was using linux, I installed a program called F-Disk, which allowed me to access my linux partitions from windows. This program made the linux partitions as separate partitions which would show up on My Computer. But now after deleting linux, these local disks still show up on my computer with a red circle and a white question mark on them. They dont have any space on them and I cant access them or anything like that. These local drives do not go away at all. I have a attached an image which shows My computer.

Can someone help me with this please?
Thanks.

HELP! I'm so frustrated in trying to find someone who can help me with this issue ... I promised a report to the client several hours ago! The only way I know to fix it is to manually delete every single one. Too much time.

I'm importing spreadsheets from a system that I work with on a regular basis. There's a character box w/ a question mark, as if it's indicating a space or tab. How can I permanently stop this from happening? Of course this doesn't seem to be happening to anyone else who uses the same system ...

here's a screenshot:

Greetings d0dUxDJ and to BleepingComputer's Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal forum. My name is Oh My! and I am here to help you! Now that we are "friends" please call me Gary.If you would allow me to call you by your first name I would prefer to do that.===================================================Ground Rules:First, I would like to inform you that most of us here at Bleeping Computer offer our expert assistance out of the goodness of our hearts. Please try to match our commitment to you with your patience toward us. If this was easy we would never have met. Please do not run any tools or take any steps other than those I will provide for you while we work on your computer together. I need to be certain about the state of your computer in order to provide appropriate and effective steps for you to take. Most often "well intentioned" (and usually panic driven!) independent efforts can make things much worse for both of us. If at any point you would prefer to take your own steps please let me know, I will not be offended. I would be happy to focus on the many others who are waiting in line for assistance. Please perform all steps in the order they are listed in each set of instructions. Some steps may be a bit complicated. If things are not clear, be sure to stop and let me know. We need to work on this together with confidence. Please copy and paste all logs into your post unless directed otherwise. Please do not re-run any programs I suggest. If you encounter problems simply stop and tell me.When you post your reply, use the button instead. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see the button. Click on this then choose Immediate E-Mail notification and then Proceed and you will be sent an email once I have posted a response. If you do not reply to your topic after 5 days we assume it has been abandoned and I will close it.When your computer is clean I will alert you of such. I will also provide for you detailed information about how you can combat future infections.I would like to remind you to make no further changes to your computer unless I direct you to do so.===================================================Now that I am assisting you, you can expect that I will be very responsive to your situation. If you are able, I would request you check this thread at least once per day so that we can try to resolve your issues effectively and efficiently. If you are going to be delayed please be considerate and post that information so that I know you are still with me. Unfortunately, there are many people waiting to be assisted and not enough of us at BleepingComputer to go around. I appreciate your understanding and diligence.Thank you for your patience thus far.Unfortunately there is evidence of illegal software on your computer. I am going to request you completely uninstall all Adobe products and all other products for which you do not have a valid Product Key. not sure where to post this as it applies to all windows versions... why can't you have a question mark in the file names of files in Windows??? many pictures and songs I make is about a question and I HATE having to replace the question mark with an underscore!!! why aren't question marks allowed in file names???

A:Why can't you have a question mark (?) in file names???

Because it's a reserved character.http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365247(v=vs.85).aspxUse any character in the current code page for a name, including Unicode characters and characters in the extended character set (128–255), except for the following:The following reserved characters:< (less than)> (greater than): (colon)" (double quote)/ (forward slash)\ (backslash)| (vertical bar or pipe)? Don't know how and when, but all of a sudden I've seen all my outgoing emails in text format have a '?' at the beginning of the msg. E.g. "?Hello,...".
Obviously when I compose the msg there is no question mark.
This happens only if I use text format and with all codepages except UTF-8.

I've never installed external email clients and I've always been using Windows Mail and now Windows Live Mail 2011. IE7 then IE8 and now IE9beta. I don't use 3rd party firewalls/antivirus/anti-malware etc.

On the web it's impossible to find a solution and that's the best I've seen: Unwanted Question Mark In Message Body | TheDailyReviewer

Please, can someone help me?

A:Question mark '?' in outgoing emails

If you are running an ANSI program, if it doesn't understand a character, it sticks a '?' in place of it. If UTF-8 works I'd stick with that. I've only used English versions of Windows but from programming I know it's a can of worms when you start getting into code pages, unicode and all that jazz. Not everything understands non-ANSI char set. I'd try another mail program.

Hi all. . .I searched the forums and couldn't figure out how to fix my problem. I am not very computer savvy, so please forgive me if this sounds really dumb. .

My daughter has an A22M Thinkpad with Windows 2000 Pro. We can't get the internet to work after her b/f restored it to last known good configuration. Now, there is a question mark beside the "ethernet controller", PCI Serial port, and Display adapter under the device manager.

I went to the IBM site and downloaded the drivers for Ethernet driver for Intel PRO/100 SP Mini PCI combo card and reinstalled it but that didn't work. The question mark is still showing up. Any advice on how to fix this?

Thanks!!

buying a new keyboard did not solve the issue

all of a sudden for no apparent reason, some of the keys will produce different characters, for example the question mark key produces ?

i`ll just be typing along and it happens. i don`t click any special combination of keys as far as i can tell, and i am certainly not deliberately setting the keyboard to `french`or something like that.

it will often stay like this for ages, then for some mysterious reason it goes back to normal.

normally a complete reboot of the computer fixes it, but that`s a real pain when im in the middle of doing something important that can`t be paused (like an online game)

OK. First of all, download this and run it;

Malwarebytes

Run a full scan please............

Need help in getting rid of the icon. Everytime i click on it, it will direct me to http://www.spylocked.com/?aff=334. If I'm in full-screen mode it will automatically bring me back to window onces in awhile.
Thank for helping in advance.

A:System Tray with White Question Mark.

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi,
Device manager isnt reconigzing the smbus controller (puts a yellow question mark next to it.). My Computer is an Emachines T3504 with an Intel Motherboard and an ATI Xpress 200 Chipset. Ive Tried installing the Chipset Drivers but it hasnt solved the SM Buscontroller issue. Any ideas??

A:Yellow Question Mark SMBus Controller

Try the Intel site, http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-013541.htm or http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonxpress200mIntel/specs.html.I forgot that was before AMD acquired ATI.Louis

Running dell dimension dm051
windows xp media center
service pack 2

the problem im getting when trying to boot safe mode, a blue screen appears with a question mark ( ? )

i have no problem logged on to windows however when i open task manager and try and end a process on any process
any help or luck?

there are also numerous files in my temp folder that wont delete. for example., c.exe, d.exe, e.exe, f.exe ... etc

A:safe mode -Question mark , error

Dell Dimension E510 here, xp media center sp2 also.

Same problem here with the safe mode -> a blue screen (not THE blue screen, btw) with an odd looking prompt and a question mark. Not a real prompt, nothing blinks.

Except on mine I can't get into windows any other way. It'll just hang at the logo screen with no hdd activity whatsoever.

Just spent couple hours cleaning this thing of trojan.generic, winlogon86 and some rogue.antispyware.antivirus. Seemed to be running ok. Then did 2 things before last reboot: [1] set page file back to 'system managed size' (it was set at custom and much larger than recommended), and [2] installed windows update 'office xp service pack 3'.

A:External drives show in Device Manager & Disk Manager but not Computer

Hi Dick1030,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Please do as follows:

1. It is unusual for the System Reserved Partition to have a drive letter. Please remove the drive letter.

2. Please remove (always Safely Remove) all the external drives including any card reader and do a drive cleanup as indicated here. http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/298744-usb-thumb-drives-not-recognised-not-drive-letter.html#post2477076 It will clean your system of all non-present devices and you will be starting with a clean slate.(Incidentally this can resolve many drive letter assignment confusion of Windows OS, as you can see in the referenced thread.)

3. After you reboot on completion of the drive cleanup, plugin only your WD My Book and the Fantom drive. As you plug-in the driver for each device will be installed ab-initio. You can watch it.

4. Now take a screenshot of the Disk Management and post. While taking the screenshot, click on "Show/Hide Console Tree” and “Show/Hide Action Pane” buttons on the toolbar on top to hide those and also pull up the center partition line up as much as possible so that we get a clear and full view.

5. Also tell us whether you are sure that you had formatted the Fantom drive and it contains data and whether you want to recover the data..

(Your statements and the screenshots are so confusing - atleast to me - it is necessary that you do the above and restate the problem.)

Yesterday, I started a download and kept the pc on with my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex External HDD 1TB plugged in. After I woke up I realized that there was a power cut and the computer went off unexpectadly (I had no UPS or any backup system). And, I found that my Ext HDD was not seen in my computer anymore (It was working perfectly until before I went to bed).
In device manager, under 'Disks' it shows 'GoFlex Hard Disk', but in BIOS or Disk Manager there is no sign of this HDD.

I really need the data in the HDD badly. Please help me recover it.
P.S. I read somewhere that keeping the HDD in freezer might help and give a little more time. Is that true? Worth the risk?

A:External HDD gets detected in Device Manager but not Disk Manager or seen in 'My Computer'

Power outage probably killed something in the enclosure or its PSU. The drive in the enclosure is probably fine. I would remove the drive from the enclosure and put it in a dock or install it in a desktop computer before considering freezing it. Freezing is usually reserved for click of death drives, and a last ditch effort.

HERE IS A LINK TO YOUR NETWORK DRIVER. Just run the executable file, it will extract the files to another folder. From there it will open an internet explorer window with an install button. Click install and it should do the rest for you.

A:virus alert! Question mark & prohibition Icons

Welcome to TSG

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new hijack log.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

I was wondering if its possible to have messages that get sorted by rules that I have already set up to a specific folder can be marked as read when they come in I have never heard of this being done and (auto 'mark read') Question Outlook as XP Microsoft am fairly sure its not possible because microsoft probably thinks every e-mail you get is one you want to read The reason I am asking is after years of having my university e-mail address I accumulate somewhere around spam messages a day My university has a spam filter before it ever gets to my computer that puts a flag in the header so I can sort it in Outlook Well these messages are Microsoft Outlook XP Question (auto 'mark as read') sorted to a Spam folder in Outlook but what I wish could happen is that when I get a spam e-mail its already marked as read so I don t have that unopened mail notification in my system tray Probably not possible but if any of you know people that develop software for Microsoft this is something they should definately look into nbsp

A:Microsoft Outlook XP Question (auto 'mark as read')

Yes you can SNGX. Go into your actual rule and you should see during the action step of your rule there is an option called "mark it as read" right underneath "start application"
