When i run maplestory my screen goes black and my screen light power button blinks.
What can be the problem?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
My stream would not come up. Power LT on screen black and caps lock LT blinking once every 5 seconds. What's wrong and how do I fix it?
There are blink codes posted here, I'm not sure if they apply to the Stream laptop or not.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/power-on-black-screen-caps-light-blinks-1-time-every-5/td-p/5604834
I'm trying to get this Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop to start. I get a black screen with the cap lock light blinking when I turn it on. Occasionally it starts up normally but then returns to no start with the above described problem. I have removed the memory and the hard drive and reset them. Tried each memory stick individually in each memory location. I removed the battery and held the power button down. Several times I tried it and let the battery discharge while it was trying to start, then when the battery was dead, I plugged in the power and it started. I then removed the battery and started it 3 or 4 times and all was well. The next time, no start. I really could use some suggestions as I'm starting to pull my hair out and I don't have much left.
alright I just got this inspiron from my sister that didnt work she said nothing would black power Windows light, for 1 hdd screen light XP, sec, happen at all well it turned out the power light Windows XP, power light, hdd light for 1 sec, black screen would go on caps lock light blink for a few seconds and it would turn off somehow the memory wasnt in the slot very well bam got it working dumped all her pics and crap to a external hdd and wanted to wipe it all out and start over she is sending me a xp disc but for now I just figured Id go back to k cuz I have that disc and when I get the disc go back to xp anyways I couldnt figure out how to format the drive because obviously xp was running off of it anyways I kept trying all the del - f - f - f to get a dos prompt before windos would load but I couldnt so I figured Id just put the k disc in because I thought I remember that it formats it right before it installs but it asked me where to install and the disk was partitioned and I wanted one drive letter so I cancelled the install before it was actually installing though said f to quit and I hit f now when I try to power it up the power light comes on the hdd light comes on for maybe - seconds max then the cd drive light comes on and it spins up then stops and the screen just stays black never did anything either just black the whole time I cant use a floppy to try anything because no floppy drive I tried starting up with the win k disc in but doesnt work I searched on my desktop running win k and it showed a tutorial for making a usb flashdrive recovery tool wanted me to copy boot ini ntldr and ntdetect com I found the last w and found somethign boot but didnt have ini behind it plus I was supposed to remove the read-only tag and edit it in the notebook but when I opened it all it said was C gt MS-DOS dont remember exact signs inbetween exactly but C MS DOS was all since there was no s to change to s I just tried it leaving it as is but the laptop wont boot from that I know when I was in the bios there was an option of what to boot from and usb was one of em but I honestly cant tell you what it was set at got the ultimatebootcd off the web burnt the iso to a cd and even then it doesnt work but it doesnt do what it says it will do on my desktop either so maybe its the disc in that particular case Ive fotrmatted a lot of drives and installed and se on other computers k on mine every couple years for a fresh start never messed with xp though so my few s are if the laptop was set not to boot from the cd drive at all would the drive still spin up when I get the xp disc will it load right up from that and let me reinstall the OS is there any button to press RIGHT as it is loading that will just take it straight to a dos prompt or is anyone here cool enough to email me a file I can throw on my usb stick drop it in the laptop and see what happens thanks nbsp
oh, also, i did try and search and most I found were a black screen after the self test or the windows logo, not right away.
also, dont think it matters, but when the lights go out, it is at the point where hitting the power button again, the computer instantly turns off.
also, just checked, and its nothing to do with the lcd. I just hooked up my monitor, and my monitor tells me when there is no signal, and it just stayed black, then when it was unplugged from the laptop that is when it said no signal.
Day before yesterday when I was trying to start my laptop, the light turned on-off continuously several times, and finally the power key light turned on but the screen was black. And yesterday the light turned on-off thrice. But after that every time I turned it, the power button light got on, but the screen was black.Present situation: On starting my laptop, the power key light is on, but the screen persists to be black, not getting on-off on it's own. I found one solution, of removing the battery as well as charger and pressing the power key for about 60 seconds. But it didn't help. Please suggest what might the problem be and solutions!!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Laptop-not-starting-power-button-light-is-on-but-screen/td-p/5816794

I have a black screen on my Acer Apire Laptop I am fairly good at fixing computer problems but this has me stumped This is what I have done so far Took off the battery and held down the power button for min then plugged the power back in without the battery and nothing happened tried this also with holding down the F and also again holding down the f button Nothing I thought it was the hard drive so I had bought a new one Black only Acer power light with Screen Aspire on and put it in and hit F and my computer started to boot up So I decided to put my old hard drive back in and by chance it came on and started to boot up also I was very happy and I used the computer for day with my power cord plugged in but when I unplugged it and went to plug it back in later and use it again it was back to the dreaded Acer Aspire Black Screen with only power light on Black screen As suggested I took my computer back apart and pulled out the both RAM memory cards and cleaned them and tried switching them in each others slot as suggested and re-booted the computer multiple times but to no avail Still nothing Another thing I notice My battery had gone bad a year ago and I bought another one and had been using it fine but it does get much much hotter than my old one as it runs So I don t know if it is shutting down over that or not I put it in the freezer for min as suggested by others and tryed turning it on again but still nothing ANY SUGGESTIONS IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED nbsp
Usually computers shut off to prevent damage from overheating. i would check to see if the fans are even working or it could be that the motherboard has gone bad.

Hi... Try a power reset. Unplug the adapter (power cord) off the laptop, if you have connected. On the bottom side of the laptop, you will see a small reset hole with a battery symbol. Please insert a thin object like a paper clip into this hole and hold it for 5 seconds. Then plug in the adapter.Turn on the laptop check for the issue.

Hello Im having a problem with my Acer Aspire All in One Z3-615 PC. Whenever I turn the computer on the light turns on and the fan runs loudly but the screen remains dark. I've been having this problem for a couple weeks now and this issue started at random. I've done research to make me believe something may have come loose inside but I may be wrong. Firstly check if you can drain all the excess power from the system .
Check if you are able to run the LCD BIST .
1. Turn the computer off.
2. Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the Laptop LCD BIST.
3. The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
4. The laptop will restart when the test is finished.
Kindly private message the service tag to the system .
I can't find the answer to this anywhere and I am not sure this is the right forum..but..I have a Toshiba notebook that has been giving me problems and worsening.
I push the power button and it lights and nothing happens...black screen. I push it again to turn it off, then I am constantly pushing the button on and off. After about ten minutes it will go right into the normal boot mode. Not sure why it is taking longer to get into this normal boot mode I have windows 7 and I have a Toshiba Satelite T 115-S1100. I would be so grateful for any help. Thanks.

I was wondering if someone could help figure this out. I have a HP ZE4400 laptop computer with a XP operating system and lately, the screen blinks and then it goes black. I tried the programs Mcafee and Spybot to find spyware and viruses with no luck.
After I run Mcafee scan it will stop for a couple of days and than start again. Also if I go to sites such as facebook and ebay the blinking will start.
Hello and Welcome.
It may be that you have a hardware issue with the laptop, which would be better addressed in that section of the forum.

I picked up this Alienware 5700 off ebay to hopefully refurbish for my son but I'm new at this and still learning and so this thing has me baffled. The laptop is in pristine condition but shows no signs of life. When I plug in the power supply the green light on the power supply goes from solid green to blinking rapidly to the point you can barely see it. To me that would mean a short somewhere right ? If so where ? Has anyone else ever had experience with something like this ? I just don't want to go buying a new battery for a laptop that maybe fried already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Remove the laptops battery and try the AC power only. If the green light does the same, it still could only be a bad AC adapter, or at worst, a shorted laptop motherboard

My computer was down when I came back from lunch and could not get it to come back on. If I hold the power button down for about 7 seconds it blinks orange but there is not noise from the fan coming on or post beep. Also the green light on the back is not on either. All of the other equipment sharing the same power strip come on but not the desktop so it is not the power strip. I also tried to set it up in another office on a completely different circuit and still does the same thing. What should I try next?
Which form factor, desktop, mini-tower, small form, ultra-small form?
From the (desktop) manual: Blinking amber light indicates a problem with the system board.
Are any of the 4 diagnostic LEDs on when it won't boot? ,They're on the front of the PC next to the power button. Look up error codes in the manual.
Possible power supply failure if the green light is off on the back. Can you try a different power cord? What happens if you push the power supply diagnostic button on back of PC next to that (green) power light?

A little something before I begin, I have an old Acer laptop, Windows XP and the screen is all ******, so I use a monitor to view the screen.
And this afternoon I was using my laptop and all was fine until there was a short circuit, all the appliances in the house was shut down.
3 hours later when I turned on my laptop the screen started acting up. One particular problem is my cursor, it had black and white stripes, and I never heard this happened before. Next is my screen which freezes very frequently and then it goes black and goes back to normal. This is getting annoying and I have no idea what is wrong. I did a system restore to yesterday's date and to no avail, nothing was changed. Freezing screen, blinking screen and black and white cursor.
Please help? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Seems that your GPU might be faulty because of the power outage.
Can you take a picture of your screen and post it here?

Turned on the Dell this morning....would not load windows. All I get is a black screen. I tested monitor, and it is ok. I can hold the start button in for about 10 seconds, and the computer has a rush of fan, then blinks and goes to 3 green lights across the front, but will not shut off. . I tried putting a WINDOWS 7 REPAIR CD in the tray and boot, but still will not go to windows....just a black screen, The only way to get the computer to shut down is to physically unplug. The lights are on the front panel, and the power button is also on... and only go off with it unplugged..
After I unplug the computer, wait for about 5 minutes and restart.....it blinks the CD drive, and goes to the 3 green lights on the front and wont start just freezes with the green lights on front.

Right before this whole problem happened I was able to start my laptop, although I noticed that the whole loading ring started glitching and so was logging in. It told me that the laptop needed to restart and so allowed it to. It said error message: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. Could be an issue with the battery connectors that connect the battery to the motherboard. However try these 2 steps and let me know if it makes a difference. Step 1: disconnect all external devices including battery & AC adapterPress and hold the power button for 10 seconds to discharge any or all static from the PC. Step 2: Connect back the battery & AC adapterpress the windows key + B and at the same time press the power button. This should clear the BIOS (Incase of BIOS issues or interrupted updates)

The HD light blinks continuously. Tested holding power down for 10 seconds to fully power off. That didn't have any effect. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thx.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P70-Won-t-Power-On-HD-Light-Blinks/td-p/3317492
Daughter last used laptop on battery power and ran id down completely until computer shut off. She plugged in the power cord and it would not come on when pressing the power button. Laptop was plugged in overnight and this morning same issue - the power light just blinks five times when you press the power button. This is the same behaviour whether plugged into power or not. I've tried holding down the power button. Tried with battery removed and A/C power, but then no light comes on at all. I've tried removing the battery and A/C power, holding the power button down for 30 seconds, then install battery and plug in A/C power, but no difference. I tried a different A/C power adapter and no difference. Any ideas?

I had an object hold down the power button all day. I now plugged in the A/C power, and it started right away. Problem solved.

I m not certain at this point if there is some sort of conflict or if it is an infection The login screen rapidly blinks black to normal the text and video appears corrupted and nothing responds to mouse clicks or keyboard Using Windows XP Pro HP Pavilion Notebook computer Here s what I ve done so far I started by using a Norton Ghost live boot CD to backup the existing partition so any work I do can be reversed I was able to boot to safe mode and all is well I tried quot diagnostic boot quot from within msconfig which basically shuts off nearly all non essential services progs and init files This unfortunately doesn t rid me of the blinking bootup problem The computer already has AVG installed and has been running consistently even black->to->normal repeatedly login Windows blinks screen when the problem began From safe mode I tried installing and running the latest Malwarebytes Anti-Malware This found no problems Being I have a backup image I tried running combofix as this has saved me in the Windows login screen blinks black->to->normal repeatedly past Combofix complains that AVG is running Windows login screen blinks black->to->normal repeatedly in safe mode despite the fact that no avg processes show on the process list and the one AVG service listed in service manager is now disabled I tried to uninstall AVG from safe mode but the uninstaller quits with an error stating it could not make a registry key So I can t uninstall it Combofix ran anyway installed recovery console but failed to fix the blinking problem when booted normally I still don t know if this is malware or a Windows login screen blinks black->to->normal repeatedly conflict but family members claim no no software of any kind including drivers were added recently The combofix log does mention finding a file called deploytk dll but the file now appears to be removed and the blinking problem persists I d post hijack this and combofix logs but the instructions say this forum is not for HJT logs so I m not sure how you d like to proceed Again just basically want to determine if this is malware or conflict and how to fix it Thank you in advance for your time
Turns out the problem is with the video ram. Running default XP "vgasave" driver works fine. Problems occur only when kicking in higher resolutions.
At this point I'll run the vender diagnostic and arrange a warranty repair.
Hello everyone. I'm attempting to help diagnose my sister-n-laws HP 15 laptop. I've searched high and low for an answer but all I'm finding is people with different types of "3 beeps". They either have 3 "short" beeps or 1 short with 2 long or something like that. I can't find ANYTHING with 3 long beeps. It does 3 long beeps twice and then nothing. I can hear the hard drive spinning too. No HP or BIOS documentation ever mentions anything about 3 long beeps either. Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this thing? I'm saying "3 beeps" but there's a total of 9. However, these 9 are segmented into 3 definite sets. It's 3 long beeps then a pause for 2-3 seconds then 3 long beeps, pause, 3 long beeps. Total of 9 beeps.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/3-Long-beeps-3-LED-blinks-on-Caps-Lock-key-w-black-screen/td-p/5705010

Not sure if i'm in the right place, but just wanted to see if I could get any help with this problem. I "tried" to turn on my computer the other day and nothing happened, the power light just blinked an amber color with no noise or anything. I know that if it buzzes or makes a sound it can be determined what the problem is, but it does nothing. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Thanks
I am trying to fix an Emachine T1842, replaced bad PSU with new one (exact match) when power on , only the power on light blinks rapidly, that is all it does, won't even boot to bios. is it MoBo or cpu? have already spent $60.00 on PSU. Emachine want $175 for mobo -- NO GO could it be the power on switch? anyone have a problem like this? Thanks
When I sign out of my user profile on my 2 Acer laptops and then click shut down, the computer goes black indicating that it is shutting down. However, the power light blinks until it shuts down completely. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or what but when hibernation is disabled, it tells you its shutting down and the power light doesn't blink (instead it shuts down normally). This is not a UEFI BIOS, it is a Legacy BIOS therefore it doesn't have the option to enable or to disable fast startup. This occurs on my Acer Aspire 5250 and Acer Aspire 5749 laptops. My Acer desktop doesn't do this, but it has a UEFI BIOS.
Can anyone understand what I am saying?
Also, if someone understands can they please help me with this issue?
It could also be the chipset driver. Although, I don't know what version chipset I have.http://www.tenforums.com/general-discussion/38154-power-light-blinks-before-shutting-down.html

I doubt anyone here remembers but I made a topic here last month regarding a laptop I was attempting to fix Basically someone spilt soda over it work... light Laptop power won't blinks just and tried to repair it but after that failed he gave it to me and told me that if I could fix it I could keep it At that point the problem was when I turned it on the screen would stay black but I could hear noises and the power light slowly flashed I noticed that there was no memory in it though and since the issues seemed to reflect that I decided to buy some ram and hope that it was going Laptop won't work... power light just blinks to be my only problem Well unfortunatly it wasn t Now the problem has changed that the power light flashes faster than before but the screen still remains blank Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be EDIT On a second test it appers that the flashing is the same speed as before Also when I attempt to turn it on the ligh will stay on for a second and I can almost hear the laptop starting up but that stops when the light begins to blink nbsp
Hey all Weird one here Got myself a new graphics card the other Power before light blinks boot system day upgrading from a Radeon Power light blinks before system boot x pro which died after odd years of good service to the Radeon HD and everything seems to have gone successful except for since installing it when I press the power button to boot the PC s Power light blinks before system boot power light will blink times and then boot up normally on the th blink I was kinda in minds about whether or not to troubleshoot this if I m honest but figured I might as well in case it could be causing some kinda damage I can t see any error s appearing nothing in event logs as far as I can tell the PSU should be more than capable everything seems to be performing as expected it s just these blinks before the system starts to boot I ve reseated the memory and Graphics and tried booting with a few non-essential components disconnected which fixed it for the first boot but the issue reappeared for every boot after that As well as my listed components I ve also got a PCI NIC D-link DGE- T wireless KBoard Mouse USB Wireless Adapter a SATA DVD RW and a couple of fans x mm x mm and xLED mm any ideas Cheers Sean nbsp
My G72 will not start. I have tried all the tricks for unplugging power cable, battery, holding the button down, etc. I have pulled RAM, verified power to the system board using a voltmeter.... No matter what I try, when I put the battery in and hook it to power, then press the power button, the AC power LED blinks three times. It does this if the power is not hooked up; it does not do it if the battery's removed (with AC power). I have tried two separate AC adapters, known working ones. I have voltage at the system board, so I don't think it's the power connector. The system responds only with the 3 blinks when I hit the power switch. What do the three blinks mean? I can find nothing online specific, and it's out of warranty.
If the LEDs are blinking with you turn on the notebook, refer the following weblink:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443366http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/G72-Laptop-AC-Power-LED-Light-Blinks-3-Times-What-does-this/td-p/2547359
Just since yesterday my six week old Inspiron 7559 sometimes fails to start and when it does this, the Power and Battery Status Light blinks, two times amber then seven times white, repeats forever. What does this 2/7 blink mean? Is it a clue to what is wrong? The laptop does start sometimes if I hold it at an angle. Makes me think something is not connected properly inside. Any ideas?http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19992963
When you press the power button, the power light goes on steady, the HDD indicator blinks once, then the system shuts off. Never get anything on the screen.
Once in a great while, the system will actually boot into Windows and works fine.
The battery is charged, the charger is good.
I have tried removing RAM, HDD and can't get into BIOS even, unless it is one of those off chances the system stays on.
Could it be something is shorting out? I've tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding the power button to discharge, but no luck.
It sounds like the computer isn't getting past the POST (Power On Self Test) where is looks at all the peripherals to be sure there isn't problem.
You have pulled the hdd and re-seated it, removed the RAM and re-seated it. But if there is more than one RAM module you should remove one of the two modules (assuming that there are only two) to see if you have a bad module.
Who is the manufacturer of the hdd?
Power light goes from white to orange than gets really faint won't turn on bought new charger no difference it seems if I leave it alone for awhile the light gets stronger for a bet but won't power up please help need to use ASAPhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-pavilion-laptop-won-t-power-up-light-blinks-from-white-to/td-p/5842334

Ok. I have windows xp and there has been something wrong with it all day. I am on my dad's computer now.
It startsup fine, thenwhen it should be "windows is loading" and then my name comes up, it is a light black screen. I went into safe mode, did a virus scan, it had no problems. I cleaned out the inside of it with a air blower thing, and all the fans are working so it is not overheating. Now remember...I am not that good with computers and if it is really something simple don't freak on me.
Tomorow my dad is completey clearing my harddrive, can you come up with a solution befr\ore he does that or is clearing it a good choice?
My daughter's emachines 4682 had been giving her problems then finally went kaput. When you try to turn it on, the green light surrounding the power button just blinks fast, but the computer will not boot or even turn on. Power supply, maybe?
I decided to remove the cover. For safety, I unplugged mouse/k'board/monitor, then took the cover off, wiggled some wires, hit the power button and the light stayed green, fan spun, HD spun. I quickly plugged in all peripherals, got to admin screen for XP Home, but could not get mouse or K'board to work (I don't think I got them plugged in quickly enough - both are USB, mouse is wireless), so I couldn't get past that screen. I manually turned off, tried to restart and... back to the old problem, fast-blinking green light, no power. I'm scratching my head on this one.
Thanks for any help.
I have a HP G7 series laptop.Several months ago the motherboard went out. I finally got around to ordering a replacement, then had to order a replacement amd chip since the new motherboard had a different socket type. I put it all back together and now instead of the caps light blinking, the power button will blink once for half a second and then nothing will happen after that.

Hello all I am a rook to this forum but somewhat knowledgeable with computers I seem to be having trouble with our eMachines T computer I personally hate eMachines power rapidly T2385 eMachines blinks button and will never buy one However eMachines T2385 power button blinks rapidly this PC was given to us by my mother-in-law because they couldn t get it to work They said it wouldn t power up anymore and they said that if I can fix it we can keep it I thought it would be nice to fix and give to our kids to have a computer that they can play games on Nothing fancy Since it was a powering up issue I figured it eMachines T2385 power button blinks rapidly would be a power supply issue I was right and wrong at the same time I took my power supply from my PC and put it inside the eMachines and it does power up However some strange things seem to be happening As soon as I plug the power cord from the wall into the power supply the computer automatically powers up I don t push the power button whatsoever I even hold the power button in to power the PC down and it does not respond It doesn t power down The only way I get it to power down is by flipping the switch on the back of the power supply The old power supply got no response from hitting the power button No fans turning Nothing The power supply I put in does get a response The CPU fan kicks on The power supply fan kicks on The HDD powers up But nothing comes up on the monitor It remains blank I have tried unplugging the power to the PC and holding the power button in for approx seconds to clear out any residual power but it still does what I mention I have not tried clearing the BIOS as I m not sure if that is really relevant to what our problem is Any advice would be greatly appreciated I have heard a lot about eMachines having problems with the power supply blowing the motherboard so that seems to be my number one lead in this However I m just trying to throw this out there and see if anyone has experienced the same thing and knows exactly what it is I ve looked on eMachines website for the manual and read through the manual and it mentions nothing about troubleshooting for a rapidly blinking power button and what code that would stand for nbsp
Two observations I can make from this.
In 1. I would say the power button is jammed and making a constant contact as this would cause it to start without being pressed.
In 2. That the old power supply has failed.
You would need to dissasemble the machine to test the power button with a test meter and also use a test meter on the old power supply to confirm it has no output.
Clearing the fault on the power button may get the machine going.
When I press the power button, three lights including the power button blinks every five seconds and appears notihng on the screen.Spoiler (Highlight to read)http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/When-I-push-power-button-it-blinks-every-five-seconds-time/td-p/5619169
I am working on my in-laws computer (product number: G4B05AA). After a recent update from AMD the computer began to exhibit problem. First, it did not run smoothly. Then blue screens happened regularly (Thread Stuck in Device Driver) from which the only way to restart was to unplug the computer. One time it would not power up. Following the instructions for a hard reset worked. After letting it run all night because I thought that Windows 10 was trying to do an update, it still ran poorly. Then there came the final blue screen (same issue). After unplugging it, it will not restart at all. Even a hard reset will not work, no noises, only the continuously blinking power button. All periperals, except keyboard and mouse, have been removed. It does not appear to be an overheating issue. My computer has a partitioned hard drive and has both windows 8 and windows 7. I have only used windows 7. When I turn it on sometimes it will load all the way to my windows 7 desktop then it says the display graphics quit working and then goes black but the screen is still light up. I have a NVIDIA graphics card. Can someone help me figure out what the problem is and help me fix it.
Welcome to sevenforums.
Fill in all your system specs in your profile, the best that you can.
That sounds like a video card not getting enough power, (or is broken) like if you booted up and forgot to connect a 6pin power connector or PSU could be too weak (broken?) to handle the card.
Or a heat issue on the video card itself, like thermal paste and/or heatsink fan failure.
The monitor itself is still on, totally from it's own power.
I would acquire a Linux distribution LIVE disc and boot to it [makes no changes to hardware at all] and if it runs perfectly for a while, than it's not a power issue. [distrowatch.com for various flavors of Linux, get a Live that fits on CD if download size is issue]
So in summary, probably a video card failure due to lack of power issue or heat, swap the card out for an old one is first thing I would do and clean out case and check all the fans involved.
Replace paste on video card and retest if you don't have a spare old card.
Artic MX-4 is recommended thermal paste, $10 gets you multiple applications of it, I'd replace it anyway.
You able to boot into safe mode?

No big deal, if I were you I would run startup repair using the Windows 8 boot menu, which you get to by pushing F8 at startup (I think). Startup repair might work as well. You can also try booting from a Windows 8 boot media and selecting (repair my computer).

Is it possible that you can test with another compatible PSU? I would strongly suggest doing so.
Also try the following steps:
?Make sure that the (internal) speaker is connected to the motherboard
?Remove all memory and attempt to boot the PC
?You should get the no memory beep errors
If the Power Supply is in working order and no beeps are present then it can be indicative of a faulty motherboard.
For troubleshooting purposes it may be a good idea to remove the components from the case and bench test to rule out a short.

... I forgot to add: also remove the battery and the adapter as well as the drives and memory. .... I also realized that I was not clear. Although the motherboard is an issue in my case it was just heat. It could just be heat with yours.. there are a lots of possible causes ...in this case it was not the wiring. Hello everyone Since I am not sure whether this is a driver software or hardware problem I decided to start by posting in this general discussion forum Please feel free to Screen Sometimes Black Green Light with Solid move it if you feel some other place is more appropriate I upgraded to Windows shortly after purchasing a new PC late last year I am using an ASUS P P D motherboard ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GSO graphics card and a ViewSonic VA LCD monitor The issue that has stumped me since I got this new computer is that about of the time when the computer initiates the monitor when coming out of standby or hibernation or when starting the computer I will see the desktop for about second and then the screen will go black If I turn the monitor Black Screen Sometimes with Solid Green Light off and on again I will see the image for another second and then it may or may not go black again The interesting thing is that the power light on the LCD is still a solid green it goes orange if no signal is detected Therefore the LCD supposedly is still getting a signal but it does not display anything Other than not being Black Screen Sometimes with Solid Green Light able to see anything the computer and Windows operates normally If I turn the monitor off and then on it will either stay on another second before going black or actually stay on in which case I go about my day Sometimes this takes - tries of turning the monitor on or off Other times I give up and use these -second intervals to turn the computer off with my mouse or restart blindly with the appropriate keyboard strokes and try rebooting I have tried the following fixes from various suggestions I found through Google to no avail Updated all drivers Applied all Windows Updates Update motherboard BIOS no GPU BIOS revision out yet that I could find Press quot Auto-Adjust quot when the monitor is black it doesn't work It is interesting to note that when the monitor goes black with the solid green light I cannot even see the On-Screen Display of the LCD interface like the interface for changing brightness and contrast etc I press the buttons but nothing happens Disable quot Link State Power Management quot under quot PCI-Express quot in the quot Advanced Power Settings quot I would like to try connecting to the DVI port of the GPU it has one DVI and one VGA but my old LCD only takes VGA and I don't have an adapter I might look into this Another interesting item sometimes this blank screen happens on startup It does not happen however until after the Windows logo screen which is displayed properly without fail After that if it decides to fail the screen goes black and stays black or boots normally I then turn the monitor off and on until the image stays there I am positive that this issue did not start until I switched over to my new computer so it is either a motherboard GPU or Windows issue Since I have done everything I could in regards to the GPU and motherboard I am wondering if any of you might have any suggestions Also I have not been able to find anybody with the same issue it's kind of tricky to describe in search terms If any of you remember seeing similar threads I would appreciate it too Thanks in advance for all of your help

Our C720 is just over a year old, when we open the lid th escreen stays black, there appears no noise from the fan either. There is a blue light on the front and another blue light if we put the charger in. Tried the reset by pressing the power button down but nothing still. This appears to be a problem with Chromebooks? Can anyone help?
The blue light is saying the battery is fully charged, so we know at least that portion of the hardware is working. Have you tried the 'press the power button for 30 seconds' thing? This should do a forced power down, just in case it's actually sleeping after biting into Snow White's apple. If that doesn't help you might have a hardware issue with the power button itself. We can test that by trying to boot into developer mode (the same place you would use to reset the OS). Press and hold the ESC key and the Refresh key then while holding them press the power button. If that shows you something on the screen let us know and we'll look at what else to do. You might also be looking at a hardware issue with the screen. If the screen isn't working you could still boot, just with a black screen. If that's the case you should have the blue light go to amber after a bit as the battery starts to discharge. If the light stays blue with the power disconnected then the system itself isn't starting...http://community.acer.com/t5/Chromebooks/C720-screen-stays-black-blue-light-on-but-no-fan/td-p/343708/jump-to/first-unread-message
black screen on startup, monitor standby light is on
I have a dual boot macintosh/vista machine and it has worked fine for a long time until recently. when i switch the computer on the monitor is black and the standby light is on. i made sure the cables are all plugged in correctly! when i unplug the monitor from pc it states that an "input is not detected" but when i plug it back in, it's just black. i swapped the monitor with a working one and same thing. black. so i assume it is the computer itself, but dont know where to start! help!
Are you comfortable with opening up your computer?
If so, remove the graphics card and reseat it. To remove the graphics card, you will need to push on the two clasps that hold the graphics card in; they should be on the sides of where the graphics card meets with the motherboard.
If that does not resolve it, try removing the graphics card and
[u]se an ink eraser or an electrical contact treatment, available at electronics supply stores, to ensure adapter card contacts are clean
The above was taken from: Bug Check 0x7A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR.
As you add and remove hardware, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.
You may also need to remove dust from the system for it to function properly.
Dust Removal:To remove dust, follow the subsequent general procedure. If you have a desktop bought from Dell, HP, Sony, Lenovo, etc. make sure removing the desktop casing will not void your warranty first. Call the company if you are still under warranty and ask if it is okay to remove the casing and blow dust out. The procedure described is fine for laptops; just make sure no stickers are on panels saying if you remove the panel it will void the warranty. Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Remove the casing for a desktop, or remove any screwed on panels and disc drives for laptops.
Blow out the dust inside by using a can of compressed air or a low pressure compressor. You will want to put the computer on a desk or table so you can maintain the can in an upright position if using a can of air. Blow into all crevices on the motherboard, heat sinks, cards, modules, etc. for a desktop. Blow into vents, opened panels, disc drive areas, USB ports, and the keyboard if it is a laptop. You may also want to blow inside the disc drive by replacing the drive to the laptop, starting the computer, opening the drive, and then turning off the computer and removing all power as described above including the 30 second power button step. For a desktop, you may also want to blow inside the disc drive by starting the computer, opening the drive, and then turning off the computer and removing all power as described above including the 30 second power button step.
Replace casing for the desktop. Replace panels and disc drive (if you have not already done so) for the laptop.
Plug power supplies in. AC adapter for the desktop. Battery and then AC Adapter for the laptop.
Start the computer and see if performance is better.
Easier Laptop steps:
Get a can of compressed air...
Shut down and turn off your system...
Unplug the system from any docking stations...
Remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery...
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to ensure all power is drained from the components. This closes the circuit and allows any remaining power to dissipate; it also clears the temporary memory of corruption and resets hardware/software connections. No permanent changes are made to the system d... Read more

So I purchased this lovely laptop in South Korea on a military base. I never had any issues until now. I have a black screen with the blinking caplock light on. My laptop is on and running. I have tried everything to get the screen to come on but nothing seems to work. My battery light is white which means it is charged. My keyboard light isn't working also.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Black-Screen-blinking-Caplock-light-laptop-on/td-p/5753634
Went to use my laptop this morning (windows, 15 inch screen) and all I could get on the screen was
several large black circles with the screen being a very light blue, like maybe sky blue. I can see the screen flickering, but nothing appears in the screen whatsoever.
It sounds like a problem with the graphics or video card or the drivers for them need reinstalled. The card will have to be replaced if its faulty.
Hello I am having quite a problem with my computer After a while of idling or in the middle of a game the screen will go black but the light stays green indicating there still is a signal i think This is on my CRT So i tried another monitor an LCD while this is happening and i get the message Mode not supported I tried installing an older nvidia driver thinking that could be the problem but it didn t fix it When this happens i see the video card fan is still going and I m really not sure what is wrong If you could help me out that would be most excellent the computer i am on now has Intel Extreme Graphics onboard video and it is painful to play any stays Green going Light on - black Monitor Screen decent game on it Thanks in advance Edit I also remembered sometimes rarely when i shut the computer it wont react when i try to turn it back on with the power button but a few mins later as if by magic it turns on nbsp
I have a envy touchsmart laptop and it did a system update and then it restarted but never came back on . I already took out battery and then hit one of the F keys for 30 seconds .. I also tried f10 then down arrow 3 times and enter twice... nothing worked. Please help I have a lot of home work to get done tonight.. Thank you!
Hi, As you mentioned latop turns on but nothing else happens, please turn off your laptop and turn the laptop on and keep tapping f11 key on keyboard now you must see recovery manager screen, select system restore on the list and select earlier date when your laptop was working fine and click finish at bottom once the laptop restarts you should be able to use without any problem, If not then check lights on caps and num lock whether it is blinking if yes then check how many times caps lock blink and reply back to this message, and if their no light blinking then you might have to reseat RAM and HDD even after reseat if still their is no display try connecting it to external monitor and check if their is no display then it should be problem with motherboard. When the screen goes off do you hear the fans still running?
Make sure your monitor cable is tightly connected.
Start in safe mode (tap F8 when it first starts booting)
Does the screen stay on in safe mode?
Toshiba Satellite A25-S2792 w/ XP & P4 has greenpower chord is lit and yellow battery light is flashing when power chord is plugged in. After I press the power button, the power chord light changes to yellow, begins flashing and the battery light goes out. Removing the battery gives the same results. Pressing and holding power button down for 20 seconds w/ battery out yields same result as well. Suggestions?
The motherboard is bad. Have you tried reseating the memory?

Hello there, I'm Callie. On May 7th I purchased a Dell Inspirion 5559. As of yesterday on Thurday June 9th, I have noticed an issue with my webcam. Unless it's in front of a direct light like the sun or a light pointing towards the webcam, my webcam displays a black/blank screen. Here are a couple examples.
In front of window/sunlight.
Moved away from window/sunlight [but still lights on in the room.]
Here is a good source when troubleshooting Webcam Issues.
The Screen is black, blank or dark
A blank, black or dark screen can be caused by low light conditions or if the webcam is in the wrong mode. Make sure to use the webcam in a well-lighted area.
Adjust the brightness setting in the Skype software, for more information refer to the Skype website.
On Skype, select Tools> Options >Video Settings > Webcam settings
Then move the sliders for brightness and contrast and see if it helps.

I have an older dell dimension 4600 that was given to me. It seemed to be working good until while I was using it it suddenly went off and the screen went blank. The only sign of life is an amber blinking lite on front. I took it apart and looked inside. There is only a green lite on that connects to the pwr switch. I disconnected everything but the hard drive & RAM but nothing else happened. Where do I start with this??
Thanks for any suggestions.
Disconnect everything (including add in cards, drives) but the processor and 1 stick of ram, is the light still amber? Try the other stick of ram if it had more than 1. Still amber? If so you have either a bad power supply, bad motherboard or processor.
Hi, hope you're doing well.
this just started happening to me yesterday. Windows 7, 64 bit. I'll be doing nothing in particular on my Toshiba Satellite laptop and the screen will randomly just turn black...the back light is still on. The hard drive light on the front will also stop blinking and just turn off. I have to manually shut down my laptop by holding the power button....I can restart it normally but then after a random amount of time, the screen will turn black again. It might last 15 minutes or an hour but it happens again. I've included the file requested for BSOD situations because I"m not sure of the issue.
Thanks for any help, I truly appreciate it!

I haven't done any modifications or upgrades to this desktop. I got a blue screen (didnt catch the message it threw). I went to turn it on and after I hit the power button the power light comes on, the fans spin for a few seconds, and then nothing else happens. No hard drive noise and a blank screen...but the power light is still on. I tested the power adapter and it's throwing our 22.5 V. Please help :/
Its sounds like it could be the power supply or the motherboard.
Hi please bear with me i ve never tried something like this to troubleshoot b Basically at seemingly random times my screen goes black and i have to hit the Reset button on my Chasis to get back to normal functionality The trick is i never get an Event in the Event Viewer to indicate the cause of the issue - i m inclined to believe it s either a Norton problem or some form of Malware I followed the listed instructions as well as i could however i had some issues with GMER even when disabling AV for it so i do not have a scan to post from that Here is the DDS stuff however - AV didn t seem to cause any hiccups with it as far as i could tell but if you need a fresh scan with AV off just holler DDS Ver - - - NTFSx Run by Kevin at on Thu Internet Explorer Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition GMT - AV Norton Security Suite On-access scanning enabled Updated E A - - -B - C C F FW Norton Security Suite enabled C A C -F F- AC Black to have Screen, button Chasis. hit Reset on -B -A E C F Running Processes C WINDOWS system nvsvc exeC WINDOWS system svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost exeC WINDOWS System svchost exe -k netsvcssvchost exesvchost exeC WINDOWS system spoolsv exeC WINDOWS Explorer EXEC Program Files EVGA Precision EVGAPrecision exeC WINDOWS system RUNDLL EXEC WINDOWS RTHDCPL EXEsvchost exeC Documents and Settings Kevin Local Settings Apps OR OQZOH QM HBQRJN OE curs tion eee a b d e e CurseClient exeC Program Files Norton Security Suite Engine ccSvcHst exeC WINDOWS system svchost exe -k imgsvcC Program Files Norton Security Suite Engine ccSvcHst exeC Program Files Internet Explorer iexplore exeC Program Files Internet Explorer iexplore exeC WINDOWS system rundll exeC Program Files Internet Explorer iexplore exeC Program Files Internet Explorer iexplore exeC Documents and Settings Kevin My Documents Downloads Computer-Related Security Check Stuff dds scr Pseudo HJT Report uStart Page about blankBHO Adobe PDF Link Helper Black Screen, have to hit Reset button on Chasis. df c-e ad- -a -fa c ebdc - c program files common files adobe acrobat activex AcroIEHelperShim dllBHO C C A-E - b - D - CECB - No FileBHO Symantec NCO BHO adb e- Black Screen, have to hit Reset button on Chasis. aff- - aa - dac dfa - c program files norton security suite engine coIEPlg dllBHO Symantec Intrusion Prevention d ec - aae- -aeee-f f c - c program files norton security suite engine IPSBHO DLLBHO Search Helper ebf - f- bff-a f-b Black Screen, have to hit Reset button on Chasis. e aac b - c program files microsoft search enhancement pack search helper SEPsearchhelperie dllBHO Windows Live Sign-in Helper d - c - abf- ecc- c - c program files common files microsoft shared windows live WindowsLiveLogin dllBHO DBC -A - b-BC - C C C A - No FileBHO Windows Live Toolbar Helper e a dc - - a - ea-dc ec acf - c program files windows live toolbar wltcore dllTB amp Windows Live Toolbar fa ef- d- d - b f- a d - c program files windows live toolbar wltcore dllTB Norton Toolbar febefe - b - - d -ffb d b ca - c program files norton security suite engine coIEPlg dllmRun EVGAPrecision quot c program files evga precision EVGAPrecision exe quot smRun nwiz c program files nvidia corporation nview nwiz exe installquietmRun NvCplDaemon RUNDLL EXE c windows system NvCpl dll NvStartupmRun NvMediaCenter RUNDLL EXE c windows system NvMcTray dll NvTaskbarInitmRun RTHDCPL RTHDCPL EXEStartupFolder c documents and settings kevin start menu programs startup CurseClientStartup ccipIE e e dd -d - - b -f ba - windir Network Diagnostic xpnetdiag exeIE FB F -F - d -BB E- C F - c program files messenger msmsgs exeIE C - CB - a-A C -D FCDDC D - F B - A - F - DB-E F AEC - c program files windows live writer WriterBrowserExtension dllTrusted Zone internetTrusted Zone mcafee comDPF E DF - E - A - -C ED - hxxp content systemrequirementslab com s amazonaws com global bin srldetect cyri cabDPF -C A- E-A -C C BBF - hxxp download microsoft com download C C C CBBA -A F - D - B E- D LegitCheckControl cabDPF E A-... As i've not had any black screens since my initial post and i'm having surgery monday with an expected 2 week hospital stay (not my best planning, posting late thursday knowing of the coming surgery, but i get nervous about computer security stuff and sort of panicked), i'm not quite sure what the best option would be in regards to this thread....If someone is already involved with looking at the logs and stuff, i leave it up to you as to how you would like to proceed, given this new information - whatever you feel is best is fine with me, and thank you for looking into my issue. If noone has started yet, please delete this thread - i'll make a new one after the hospital stay if needed. Also, i'm starting to think this is more likely a Driver, Hardware, or Norton issue, not Malware..... tho i could be wrong.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/347863/black-screen-have-to-hit-reset-button-on-chasis/
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, please move if needed!!
I have done a Google search and nothin helpful popped up.
I want to know if i can remove the power button from the bottom of the welcome/locked screen as my lovely 2 year old keeps turning my PC off it its lock or on the welcome screen, I have a lockable door on my PC case so he can't get at that power button so this is the only thing we can think is its the power button on the welcome screen lol
Thanks for any help
Hello Morpheus, and welcome to Seven Forums.
This may help, but it also removes them from the Start Menu. It's the same in Windows 7.

Hope this helps,
In my 64bit W8.1 I have a power button on the start screen. In my 32bit W8.1 that power button is missing. Is that something I have to set up (I really don't remember).

Hello, I received my laptop today from ebay and I expected it to work 100% and the screen is not showing how it is supposed to be. Is there an attempt on fixing this to make it work back to normal? It only shows red on the blacks and light blue one white.
Here is an example:
I would return it ASAP, looks defective to me.
Good luck on your decision
Every time I enter my password my screen just goes black with only my cursor visible, after about an hour or so my start menu was visible but I still couldn't do anything. Everything was black and empty. Is there a fix for this? I'm attempting a system restore/restart but if that does not work what are my options?
Also whenever I do open up my computer it says something about a media failure. I'm not sure if this is in regards to my graphics card as it tells me the card itself is running fine.
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series.
PS: Is there an easier way to access the troubleshooting menu? It took me an hour to access it no matter how many times I pressed the function keys, it only seems to open whenever I constantly force reset my computer...
ctrl + alt + delete open task manager. go to process select explorer.exe end process tree. is this does fix the issue the go to file open new process then type explorer.exehttp://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/406562-black-screen-windows-10-after-logging-i-can-only-see-my-start-button.html
I must have inadvertently hit something today, because my Backspace button now "crashes" -produces a black screen - on my laptop. It shuts down the system within about 5 seconds and I have to power back up - but when I do power it back up, it only takes a second or two, my work is still there and my XM radio comes back on.
Has this happened to anyone else and can anyone explain how I might be able to "undo" whatever it is I have done?
Thank you in advance !
