Computer freezing & crashing, help needed

Q: Computer freezing & crashing, help needed

At less than two years old my custom built PC has always been in perfect needed Computer & crashing, freezing help condition but recently I ve experienced problems with crashing and freezing The first problem s started around three months ago when on plugging an ipod in to the USB drive the ipod would break and have to be rebooted in disk mode and wiped to work again tested with separate Computer freezing & crashing, help needed ipods At first I thought it may be some sort of virus but after running scans with AVG I found my computer was clean which led me to think it could be a power fault Then around a month ago my computer started to randomly crash shutting itself down immediately while in use then Computer freezing & crashing, help needed on restarting it would crash again When left turned off for a longer period of time a few hours it would start up again as normal and work until the next crash when it would have to be left switched off again but as my computer case has a thermometer I knew this was not due to overheating The crashes began to occur more and more Computer freezing & crashing, help needed regularly at very most minutes after the computer was turned on so I explored as many options as I could think of I opened up the case and hoovered inside I cleaned the fans I deleted all temp files and temp internet files I did a disk cleanup I ensured there was sufficient RAM After all this my computer STILL isn t working properly the crashes have stopped and I have been unable to check it with an ipod but instead it freezes completely frozen - the cursor will not move music playing stops Ctrl Alt Delete doesn t work etc randomly Sometimes immediately after logging in to my work station the computer will freeze and need to be restarted whereas at other times - generally when nothing or only a single program is running - it will stay on for longer without freezing an hour or more Could this be a power supply problem If so how could it be fixed and if not what is wrong with my computer I am not technically minded so I may be missing something obvious here but I m at a bit of a loss and any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated Chloe nbsp

Preferred Solution: Computer freezing & crashing, help needed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

By any chance do you still have the minidumps created by your earlier crashes? You can find them in C:\windows\minidump. If so, please zip them in a single file and post them here with your next post.

Secondly, do not rely on single AV solution, I would also advise you to scan your system using online scanning of ESET (it will ask you to download a small ESET scanner and install it).

Download Secunia's PSI and run it; it will let you know if you have any security related issues with your installed software and advise you to update (if needed be).

Check your system's logs, by going to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, then to Event Viewer, check all logs, specially check if there are logs with red/yellow tags; if there are any, please give as many details you can get from there.

Also give us your system's specs, and OS details (e.g. which service pack you've installed etc., you can check that by opening my computer, then going to help menu and clicking on about windows).

Just yesterday I installed windows 7 and all the drivers on my new computer A family friend with tech knowledge helped me build a day or two before. I (ignorantly) used Asus Auto Tune before playing any games, I'm unaware of wether this would have caused the problem or not, but if I go to play either The Witcher 2 or Skyrim My computer freezes or reboots with no message it also has froze and bluescreened a few times while browsing the net. So I came here to ask for help.

I need help with my computer, it's kind of old I know, but don't have the money to buy a new one. It freezes with almost EVERYthing I try to do. I have never used TechGuy before, so I am new to this and do not know what information may be needed in order to help me solve this problem. I have some of the system's information, hopefully this will aid me in finding a solution.

A:Computer Freezing & Crashing

first suspect would be the power supply,it came with a 250w

a friend may have a 350 or 450w lying around that you could swap in to test with

next would be heat

blow dust out from the insides fans and h/sinks with a can of air

check for bad caps

My computer randomly locks up/freezes. Sometimes rarely, sometimes everytime I start up my PC.

I'm using:

Windows XP/SP2
Radeon 9800 Sapphire
Intel 2.4ghz
Alliance 450w power
MSI motherboard
Lots of flashy lights on the box

Seems that when I update the drivers on my Radeon it makes it even worse, tried rolling back too.

Thing is, I don't think i've ever removed old drivers. How do I go about doing this?

Also I probably need to update my motherboard drivers for my Intel and my Radeon. They have the drivers on the MSI website... but I don't know what drivers to run!

Could this also be a heat issue? My CPU heat is at 104F usually. I don't know how to tell how hot my video card is, but I have half of my case open so it gets great air flow.

Can someone please help?

Thanks!

A:Computer freezing/crashing, help!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I dont think it is heat issues. you said that your winxp freeze and crash..

Havent you still have a valid copy of Windows XP? Or perhaps a Windows XP Recovery CD? if you have a valid copy of winxp, you can try reinstall it or reformat it.

After that, go straight to Microsoft Update Center, download all of patches available, reboot.

Download Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (opinional)

Download Microsoft DirectX 9.0C, Reboot

Download MSI drivers, Reboot

Download ATI RADEON CATALYST DRIVERS, reboot

When all thing went accordly, Run the WINXP Restoration Point, set the point OR backup everything again in case your computer start screws up again.

Let us know if this dont works. Thanks.

SO this is the deal my computer keeps freezing on me and i don Computer Keeps My Freezing/Crashing t know why My Computer Keeps Freezing/Crashing For the last couple of weeks it would just randomly freeze on start up sometimes i wouldn t even be able to get to the desktop before i had to hit the restart button other times i would be able to use the internet but i wouldn t be able to run any applications for example i would be able to check my email but when i tried to open something in quot my computer quot it would just show a blank screen or the icons would show up but i wouldn t be able to click on anything first thing that i thought was a virus spyware trojan worm but i ran a scan on my computer using both McAfee and Housecall and both showed that I had no viruses or anything on the system i brought my computer into a shop and got them to run a diag on it but it showed that nothing was wrong with the hardware apparently i still suspect that it is a hardware issue because i reformatted my hard drive reinstalled windows xp although when reinstalling windows sometimes i would have to start over because it would freeze in the middle of installation what causes that and there is nothing else on my computer but the same problem keeps happening on start up it will just freeze sometimes not even getting to the desktop once it gets to the desktop i can move the moust and use the keyboard but everytime i try to go into the desktop properties or my computer it keeps freezing although i can run simple programs like solitaire what does this mean it s frustrating to know that there is nothing on the computer that could cause the randomness in freezing im so confused what should I do -pure imagination- nbsp

A:My Computer Keeps Freezing/Crashing

Imagine the Wrong Timings in the BIOS...

Go into your BIOS setup and make sure all the timings for you CPU and memory are set according to the specifications for your CPU and memory. Depending on your motherboard, there could be jumpers that you need to set as well. If you don't know how to do these things, respond with what you need directions for. If your computer specs aren't posted in your profile, you need to post all the information including CPU, motherboard, and memory manufacture and model as well as your operating system.

Some other steps include running a memory test using Memtest

Make sure all your drivers are up to date for the chipset, video card, etc.

When you do ctrl+alt+del. How many processes are running when this happens?
It could be something using more cpu than the other processes.

Recently my computer has been freezing up or blue screening on me. I got fed up with it and reinstalled windows. The problems have gotten worse. Sometime when its starting it wont even make it to the ASUS POST screen and the monitor stays in standby. Even after multiple hard restarts it wont bring anything up and when it does it usually freezes at the POST message. I have 4 cores enabled on my phenom II black and when the computer actually turns on it has cleared it back down to single core operation and defaulted all my settings in BIOS. Could my motherboard and or processor be going out? The blue screen error messages have pointed to every component of the computer at one time or another. Its blamed RAM before and I Memtested that with no issues. MB is ASUS M4A78T-E

Thanks!

Hi Riverwind and welcome to TechSpot

is the computer just freezing "as-is" or do you get a blue screen (BSOD)?

since you have a unplug it to allow it to start again would suggest a dying power supply.

it also may be an overheating issue (either the PSU or the CPU). is the power supply fan working? is the CPU fan working? did you accidentally "bump" the heatsink when you removed/reinstalled your RAM?

In August the fan on my computer blew, so my stepfather ordered a new one and installed it himself. Ever since my computer freezes on random websites, the most popular ones are
Myspace
YouTube
AZLyrics
Or if I am running photoshop pro, it will freeze. Also sometimes it will the moniter will go blank, and i will have to restart. Oh & when it freezes i can't even do CNTL+ALT+DEL

My computer was originally a Windows ME, but my stepfather upgraded to windows XP

Hopefully some+ne can help me in fixing this problem, i have mentoned to my stepfather but he says there is nothing wrong with it.

Hi misscassiechaos and welcome to TechSpot

Number one is to get your computer running a little faster (and smoother)

Download and Run CCleaner from HERE
Fully clean out all the junk from your computer

Then Download and Run Startup Control Panel from HERE
Go through the startup entries and disable (untick) any not required to start with Windows
Restart once complete (startup entries are just shortcuts, not the actual program itself)

Obviously update your AntiVirus software

Then lastly run a full Defrag, from Accesories - System Tools

Please run the Internet after that, and re-confirm any lockups.

I am fairly new to the advanced PC world.

I recently built a computer using all new parts, and it powers on and works for the most part.

The problem is that it freezes very often, loads very slowly, if at all, and crashes completely when I try to launch a game.

I have: windows 7 64 bit 8 gigs of ram ASUS M5A78L-M/USB motherboard EVGA GEFORCE GTX 750ti graphics card AMD FX 6300 6-Core processor

I've tried running memory diagnostics for the ram, reseating the ram, unplugging and replugging power cords, reinstalling the OS, scanning for viruses, looking for .dmp files, etc.

I don't have the money to pay for tech support to come and fix it, so I am relying on this post to help me.

Please help me figure out how to fix this!!

Hi all,

Have a problem running sony vegas (a video editing software package).

The problem simply put is that on many occasions (just to point out it does not happen on every occasion, but it does happen frequently) i run the program it either crashes with a blue screen or it freezes and i get an error report provided by sony vegas. Although not strictly the only time it happens, the time it crashes the most (well the times i've noticed it crashing today) is whenever i try to play a preview of what I have edited.

Anyone know how to solve this issue for me please? The details of the error report are below:

Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
Fault Module: D:\WINDOWS\system32\USER32.dll
Fault Address: 0x7E418628
Fault Offset: 0x00008628

All help much appreciated, thanks.

A:Computer crashing/ freezing while browsing the net

Regarding those errors in the ESET logs: were your programs (i.e. Steam) open when you ran that scan?

Some other things you can do:

1. Download SecurityCheck from here or here and run it.
Just follow the directions listed in the black box and you should be good.
If your security application (in your case, it seems to be AVG) requests permission to allow DIG.exe to access the internet, give it that permission.
At the conclusion of your scan, a Notepad document named checkup.txt should pop up automatically.  Post its contents in this thread, and leave the reading to us.
NOTE: If you are using McAfee safe browsing, one of those links may be reported as malicious.  Choose to visit the site anyways (ignore this if you aren't using McAfee safe browsing).
2. Download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) from here and run it.
Make sure all of the option boxes have a checkmark in them.  Ignore the Search text box.  It should look like this.
Press Scan and let it do its thing.
At the end of the scan, it should create a log called FSS.txt and save it in whatever directory FSS.exe is located in (for me, it was C:/[MY ACCOUNT NAME]/Downloads).
Copy and paste that scan into your next post.
3. Download MiniToolbox from here and run it.
Make sure the following boxes are checked off (it should look like this in the end):
Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
List contents of Hosts
List IP configuration
List Winsock events
List last 10 Event Viewer logs
List Installed Programs
List Devices (keep the settings here the same, DON'T change them)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

4. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from here, extract all files, and run it.
Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
When the scan is complete, do NOT click on the Cleanup button.  Close the program instead.
When done, there will be two logs produced in the unzipped MBAR folder: mbar-log-[five digit number].txt and system-log.txt.  Please post both.
5. Download rKill from here and run it.
NOTE: If for whatever reason, rKill does not run or is forbidden from running, download a renamed rKill (iexplorer.exe) here.
If you are running Vista or Windows 7, right-click the file and choose Run as administrator.
A black DOS screen will briefly flash on the screen, then disappear.  That means the program has run successfully.
At the conclusion of the scan, a Notepad doc named rKill.txt will automatically pop up. Post its contents in your next post.
If neither rKill.exe or the renamed iExplorer.exe run successfully, reboot and attempt to run from safe mode, and let us know that it did not work while Windows was running normally.
Please do not attach these .txt files or wrap them in [code=auto:0] or [quote] tags! Simply copy and paste them into your next post!

From there, we can help with further instruction.  Hope things get better!

I Have already cleaned my registry and done a virus scan using trend micro and updated my drivers. I think it mite be a video card issue

After doing a malwarebytes anti malware test, my computer freezes/crashes every now and then. I'm not sure if its just coincidence but I'm a bit worried.

When the freeze starts nothing is clickable except windows explorer, then when i click on it that freezes as well. If I have a youtube video playing the sound will continue but not the video and sometimes the sound will stop.

Also when it freezes and I press ctrl+alt+delete nothing happens. And sometime after clicking things and it not responding the stuff I clicked will open when the freeze stops.

It it someting to do with my CPU, RAM or hard drive?

I have two hard drives btw. A ssd which has my OS and some games and programs on. And an old 1Tb normal hard drive for more programs, games etc.

A:Computer freezing/crashing and I have no idea why

At the moment, my C drive (the ssd) is on 90% usage or above all the time, even when everything is closed, could that be the issue?

Ten minutes after that my C drive stays around 0-10% usage while I'm not doing anything on the computer???

What's going on...

Hi,Let's take a look Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

CPU is Intel Pentium 4 hypherthreaded 2.7 GHZ aproximately, an LG DVD multirecorder / CD rewritable drive, ATI radeon 8500 PCI video card, creative soundblaster PCI sound card. QDI P2PE / 800 Pro Motherboard, OKIA Switching power supply model : OKIA-450ATX 450 w MAX.

plase help me as it is annoying that my computer freezes as I want to be able to do the things that triggers its freezing.

A:Computer freezing and crashing, internet errors

Hello and welcome to TSF

Apologises for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy lately. If you are still having malware problems, follow instructions below.

======

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Click Upload.
What DSS will do: create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Bear with me I'm somewhat experienced with computers but not a ton I recently rebuilt my computer due to freezing issues with my last computer poor amp old parts etc and even with everything being replaced with the exception of peripherals I continued to have freezing issues Wondering if it might have to do with an extremely old keyboard PS I replaced that but there continued to be freezing issues so I attempted to also use a new mouse crashing computer New during Windows freezing, chkdsk During this I figured it couldn't hurt to check my hard drive as many people recommended so I ran chkdsk The first time I ran this New computer freezing, Windows crashing during chkdsk when I checked on it in the morning it was frozen on a black backlit screen I hard shut down the computer and upon restart it began running chkdsk again This time after maybe an hour or two Windows crashed with the quot unexpected error encountered quot message and froze on of checking for the error When I tried to skip chkdsk the Automatic Repair came up and would get past the quot Diagnosing PC quot pinwheel and say that Windows could not be repaired and would I like to system restore I attempted to system restore but it then froze on the Windows logo without the pinwheel or anything else occurring Currently attempting to run chkdsk a third time hoping to get past any Windows crashes but I'm not very hopeful Does anyone have any suggestions The computer is completely new the only software installed is CCleaner Spybot various Steam amp Blizzard games amp drivers The problem is definitely not virus related The harddrive has only been in use for a couple weeks with Windows installed

Hey there so I ve come here as a last resort I have a computer which I used to personally use but after months of frustration with it s issues I gave up and bought a new system I gave the old system to my parents however as they we re still using a Win system which took hours to boot up The Question Crashing/Freezing Issues Computer system all in all had average specs gb ram intel core quad tb hdd gt gpu win however there was always one main issue which I could never seem to fix It always seemed to crash You would maybe get a few minutes use after booting the computer up before the mouse would start lagging around the screen before coming to a complete halt and becoming completely frozen at this stage the only way to use the system was holding Computer Crashing/Freezing Issues Question the on and off button and giving it a restart This issue is still apparent and is frustrating my parents instead of me now they want to go back to the Win system it s so bad however I would really like to be able to give them a chance to experience how nice a fast running system can be So yes thank you for taking the time out to read this and I would love it if someone could help - as I said this is pretty much a last resort to finding a solution without forking out for someone to fix it when the system itself is now probably only worth about Thanks guys please let me know if you need any extra info - Richard nbsp

A:Computer Crashing/Freezing Issues Question

Has the OS and drivers been freshly installed since the problem occurred?

Is Windows Event Viewer logging any errors?

Reset the BIOS to factory default, save and exit. Boot back into the BIOS and disable all unused hardware and features, save and exit.

Disconnect/reconnect all cables and hardware (ie: RAM, video card, etc.).

You can test the RAM using memtest86.
You can test the HDD using the drive manufacturers disk tools.

Hello my PC that built myself about years ago has been running perfectly up until this month I don't know the exact cause of the crashing but I figured I'd ask here in Computer desc. details more freezing/crashing before going to my local PC shop to blow bucks to find out something Computer freezing/crashing more details in desc. I could've found out on my own There are two types of crashes freezes I have encountered one involves the PC stopping everything not responding and showing a constant HDD light The second is my windows will glitch more specifically when I hover over my icons on my taskbar they shift to the left and won't respond to my clicking on them Another note to the second is that my background images stop Computer freezing/crashing more details in desc. and switch to a black background I'm able to subdue my second problem by right-clicking on the desktop and clicking refresh The first however can only be dealt with by manually resetting the PC I've re-installed windows twice and that Computer freezing/crashing more details in desc. didn't fix anything so it isn't windows I would like to assume that my HDD is defective and that's all but I want to ask you guys for your opinion

Hello

My computer has been crashing for a long time on a daily basis when playing any game. The freezing happens at random. I replaced my graphics card, RAM, power supply, computer case, and monitored temperatures so I'm pretty sure it is not any of those causing the crashes. I've scanned my computer for viruses and found none multiple times. I reinstalled my OS but I'm not sure if I did it correct (first time doing it). I also contacted someone from Blizzard support to try to help me with this issue and he could not figure it out either. Help with this frustrating issue is appreciated.

Thanks!

My laptop started getting these symptoms at the beginning of May One night I came freezing, and crashing to Computer failing boot, back to my room Computer failing to boot, freezing, and crashing after a while only to find that it had frozen while it was idle nothing happened when I moved the mouse or pressed keys and I noticed the HDD light was on as if the HDD was busy forcing me to do a hard reboot The situation escalated when the laptop started crashing randomly as well I would be reading a web page not touching anything with nothing open but Firefox and then click it would crash and reboot itself giving me the Windows did not shut down successfully error screen http www winhelp us images windows troubleshoot trouble jpg The boot issues usually only occur during the first boot of the day after the laptop has been off overnight It usually crashes mid-way and reboots itself prompting the Windows failed to start error screen http www howtogeek com wp-content uploads sshot png Then every time I try to run Start-up Repair it fails claiming that it can t fix the problem whereas if I try to start Windows normally after a few attempts it boots fine Other times if it doesn t crash mid-way during booting it might freeze forcing me to do a hard reboot When this prompts error screen instead I just start Windows normally and again after a few attempts it boots fine Also sometimes when the laptop freezes whether during booting or logged into my account it goes all jittery and scrambled fractured-looking slightly similar to this http bp blogspot com -Awk V UWkT TzOYu-J UAI AAAAAAAABec oizi nasWfg s glitch jpg but showing more of the screen s scrambled content and less blank space I ve done a bit of research but so far I haven t had much success diagnosing the problem I have Norton Anti-Virus installed and running on the computer and manually initiated a scan just to be safe which found nothing I did a scan with Malwarebytes which found two things so I removed them immediately but that doesn t seem to have helped either I used CCleaner to clean out the registry and tidy up the HDD but that only helped to free up some space I started wondering if it was malfunctioning hardware and thought that maybe my HDD was failing as it is constantly close to being full and the laptop is nearly years old already I installed SeaTools and CrystalDiskInfo and ran both to scan the HDD with both returning the same all-clear results Lastly I ran the Memory Diagnostics Tool to check the RAM which also found no errors Puzzled this was as far as I got by myself before my brother told me that he hadn t been having any issues with the laptop He always uses it on the High Performance power plan and he suggested that I switch it to that Miraculously this minor change somehow makes all the difference almost It has only crashed once since I ve been using it on this power plan I had it sitting on a warm bed so maybe it overheated and it hasn t frozen at all since I don t understand how it makes such a huge difference though as the only differing setting between the two plans while the laptop is plugged in is Processor Power Management gt Minimum Processor State with my plan set to and High Performance set to The down side is changing the power plan doesn t solve the boot issues and I don t consider it a proper solution for anything anyway I assume that if I was to switch back to my previous power plan the crashing and freezing would start again I didn t make any major changes to the computer immediately prior to the start of these issues and after all the tests I ve done I have absolutely no idea what the problem is Any advice would be much appreciated and thank you in advance to anyone who can assist Computer - Toshiba Satellite L laptop OS - Windows Vista Home Premium SP -bit CPU - Intel Pentium Dual-Core GHz RAM - GB upgraded to GB HDD - GB GB C Drive nbsp

I'm not very good at computers, so bare with me.

I have tried using fraps and created a couple of "test" video clips. However, these .avi files that are created just freeze my computer. It's not even when I open it. Even if I just right click the folder the files are in, everything freezes. I have to wait a couple of minutes for the computer to close the programs and unfreeze. I can't even delete the files because it will freeze before I can do so.

After browsing the internet I've read that a lot of people have had this problem. Most of the time it is suggested to download certain codec packs. However, after trying CCCP and XP Codec pack, the problem is still there.

Problem solved with more browsing:
Start > Run
Type in: regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
Click OK.

OK so I have had my help needed. BSOD starting problems crashing up. and Serious with Computer current PC for about two years now I have Windows -Bit and my specs are GB DDR RAM ATI HD Serious help needed. Computer crashing with BSOD and problems starting up. my processor is an AMD Phenom II X Processor GHz and I have an ASUS M Serious help needed. Computer crashing with BSOD and problems starting up. A TD-V-EVO motherboard So the computer has been running perfectly from I got it about two years ago but recently I have been having serious trouble Recently I upgraded my RAM to GB by buying two new GB chips All worked fine until I was playing Skyrim for the first time My PC suddenly froze and my headphones buzzed really loudly and a BSOD came up I rebooted and launched Skyrim again in slightly lower settings and everything was fine for a bit Eventually my PC started getting a BSOD on the occasional start up and eventually the problem escalated to the PC refusing to start up until about or so attempts Eventually after some research I came to the conclusion that the two pairs of RAM chips weren t working together so I took the old chips out and left the new ones in leaving me with GB The computer again ran perfectly for a couple of days until I got a BSOD again after a while and the problem once again escalated until the computer refused to boot up for several start ups At this stage I decided the new RAM chips were faulty altogether and took them out leaving myself with just my original GB of RAM The computer again worked fine for a couple of days but then on about the third day the computer crashed - and from then the problem began to escalate until it was crashing a lot and eventually just not rebooting My brother researched the matter and believed that either the power supply W was insufficient as I had too much components in my PC I had hard drives or my hard drive was failing I figured that the second explanation that my hard drive was dying might be the solution and had figured this was confirmed when my hard drive seemingly did crash and my PC wouldn t boot because of a problem with my C drive I took my C drive out and installed Windows on my second hard drive and began again Everything worked fine until today - the third day - when I just crashed with the same computer freeze and loud buzz crash as first started the problem I am pretty sure the problem is going to start to escalate again and that it will result in another death of my PC I need serious help to fix this problem and I hope this is the right place to ask Thanks for any support anyone can lend - I really want my PC back the way it was nbsp

A:Serious help needed. Computer crashing with BSOD and problems starting up.

Update: I checked my temperatures and found that my 4870 idles at 60 degrees Celsius and goes up to about 85 after gaming. Could this be part of the problem and would it fit all my symptoms?

I've been having problems with my HP desktop computer Windows XP since mid-April and have been posting on several forums trying to find help but have had no luck on any so now I'm trying here To summarize my computer has been running extremely slowly for the past month and a half with the CPU Usage often between and even when only one or two programs are running computer, freezing/crashing: always 100% CPU more at and Explorer Usage very slow and Explorer will crash or freeze on an hourly basis so that I can't view my desktop or open any folders There are three problems that I believe may be the cause of this but I need help in solving them since I'm not sure what to do about them by myself My problems started Explorer always freezing/crashing: very slow computer, CPU Usage at 100% and more back around April th when I kept getting these quot Explorer always freezing/crashing: very slow computer, CPU Usage at 100% and more GoogleUpdate exe quot errors that would always crash my computer This problem seems to have fixed itself since then after running several virus scans in several different Anti-Virus programs and removing everything they found but I'd still like to totally rid my computer of anything GoogleUpdate exe related if possible to make sure it's not the cause of my current problems Also around mid-April I saved and activated a registry file reg that makes it so that FLV MOV and M A video files appear as thumbnails in my folders instead of just icons I did this on the advice of a forum which appeared to be legitimate and it does work in getting the flv mov and m a files to appear as thumbnails but I also believe it may be the cause of why my computer continues to crash whenever I open folders containing video files so I'd like to know if there is a way to undo this registry entry If it helps here is the text I pasted into Notepad saved as a reg and activated Code REGEDIT HKEY CLASSES ROOT flv ShellEx BB E C- - d - A B- C FC D C quot c a -cd - ccf- cb-c da d quot HKEY CLASSES ROOT mov ShellEx BB E C- - d - A B- C FC D C quot c a -cd - ccf- cb-c da d quot HKEY CLASSES ROOT mp ShellEx BB E C- - d - A B- C FC D C quot c a -cd - ccf- cb-c da d quot Finally also around the time that all these things started happening I've been getting these quot Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications quot messages every time I start up my computer I always click cancel and don't have it run its scan even though I know my version of XP is genuine because of all the nasty things that have been said about it online with it even being considered as spyware by some I've found instructions on how to get rid of it but I'd rather not follow them until I get some confirmation from an expert that it would be O K to do and wouldn't harm my computer any further Here is the set of instructions Thanks in advance for any and all help on this matter I really appreciate it

A:Computer crashing/freezing, possibly video card

Motherboard tester? A motherboard test will always be testing the CPU, memory and video too. I would start by swapping out the video card, then going after the power supply

A:Programs and computer constantly freezing or crashing... is spyware the problem?

One thing that could be causing your problems is the fact that you have both Norton And AVG running. You should never run two antiviruses at the same time. They conflict with each other and cause all sorts of problems as well as decrease your protection. You need to pick one and get rid of the other.

Also you need to disable some of those unnecessary apps you have running at startup. They are draining your computers resources.

Hi all,

I am having major issues with my hp desktop that is running windows 7. It first started out with my cursor freezing then over time it has been crashing with a blue screen.

Gave up last night and dumped my computer then did a factory install, it was great for a bit but it's still doing it. blue screen is back. (see attached image)

I received a bunch of help from this forum many years ago for my laptop so I am back again.

ugh.

I don't know the difference between a malware and a virus...so i hope I am not posinting in the wrong forum.

My problem is...my ASUS comuter, Windows 7, less than 1 year old, keeps crashing and giving me a blue screen with white writing on it, or freezes when i am online. I have brought it in for repair three times in the past 2 months. i bought the suggested anti-virus, even though i already had a different anti-virus already installed. This did not help. I downloaded the Microsoft security essentials...this did not help either. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

A:PC Keeps Freezing, Crashing

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, try the option three from this tutorial:SFC Command - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums (run the command at least 3 times).
If that doesn't help, do a repair with DISM command from here:

Hi,

Just got a minor question. What's the difference between 'crashing' and 'freezing'? Are they caused by the same things as well?

Thanks,

Eric

A:Crashing vs. Freezing

To me freezing causes you to restart your PC and crashing is a situation where your PC won't boot up or where your OS needs repair or installation

Hello, I have been experiencing problems with my computer crashing/locking up when I minimise to my desktop and then alt + tab back into my game(counter strike/silk road online etc) I can't ctrl + alt + delete, alt + tab or anything I am forced to reboot, if somebody could shed some light on my problem I would really appreciate it, thanks in advance. this only happens when I am playing video games, it has never happened browsing the internet.

A:Crashing, Freezing.

Hello mikecks and welcome to TSG!

I've not played those games before but some games are known to cause unpredictable results, that's why some games disable the alt+tab ability.

What are your system specs?
Have you got the latest drivers installed?

I have a Samsung Chronos Series running Windows and as of a day ago i have been experiencing extreme stability issues freezing programs and general unresponsiveness Whenever I boot up my computer and log in within minutes the system Crashing/Freezing freezes with the only way of shutting it off being to hold down the power and force reboot Each time windows boots up within a few minutes of logging on the system Crashing/Freezing freezes again After repeating this a few times it eventually would boot up but freeze between the windows screen and the log in screen The mouse was functional and could be moved around the screen but it was frozen at a black screen To fix this I ran a system restore through the BIOS This corrected that problem but I am still left with the problem of Crashing/Freezing my system freezing every time it boots up I have run my anti-virus Kaspersky and malwarebyes neither have found any sort of malware

A:Crashing/Freezing

1..What i would try first is boot into Safe Mode (f8) and see if problem is present there as well.İf everything works fine in Safe Mode then some third party services are probably causing the problems.

2.. a clean boot to troubleshoot the problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

3..How much RAM have you got? İf there's enough then next step 4.. would be a scan with http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

(best to access the site with İE)run a scan, checkmark all appropriate boxes, including 'check archives,

click on advanced settings and checkmark ''scan for potentialy unsafe apps'

disable your antivirus just before you run Start

and re-enable it afterwards. The scanner will give you the option to delete anything it finds at the end.

Please do that and if after a cleaning of your disk and a reboot, the problem persists, please let us know the results.

İf no malware is found we'll have to do chkdsk next.

P.S İf malware is found please also go to Start>Run type prefetch click ok and delete everything on that page, then empty Recycle bin and reboot.

I unistalled a graphics program as one of the plug-ins stopped working, came to install it again and the computer keeps frezing, even the task manager freezes sometimes, scans for viruses-adware/spyware,nothing.
The internet works fine.

A:Freezing/crashing

When you install the program, disconnect from the internet and close your firewall, antivirus, antispyware programs and any other program that may be running at the time. Conflicts with running programs can cause freeze-ups.

If the install still freezes, there may be leftover registry entries from the uninstall of the program.

You may want to use a registry cleaner such as regseeker HERE to remove any leftover entries.

Be careful using regseeker. Do not delete anything it finds unless you are sure it is safe to do so. Be sure 'Backup' is checked at the bottom of regseeker before you delete. Any registry entries pertaining to the uninstalled program should be safe to delete.

After cleaning the registry of leftovers try installing the program.

While playing games or doing anything that requires memory and video card memory usage, my computer tends to lock up fully and make a buzzing noise, which is actually the last sound heard just repeating itself. I came on here with this problem before thinking it was the sound card or video card, but even after updating the drivers and inspecting them, its neither.

I checked the event log in BIOS and theres a long list of CMOS checksum bad errors. I'm kinda new to this stuff and I really don't know what thats a sign of, but its probly the source of my problem. It jut recently began beeping at startup and stopping while booting, while showing an error that says CMOS/GPNV checksum bad.

Any way to fix this?

Hi For a while now I have been having trouble running half-life and episode one & Freezing Crashing of Freezing & Crashing the game on my computer The problem was that when ever I ran the game half-life or episode one that it would either freeze or crash the computer and restarting it So after a lot of hardware switching from my computer to a friends I found out that Freezing & Crashing my ram seem to be causing the problem I use x DDR kingmax I can run everything else on my system apart for half-life with the mb even more demanding games then half-life But for some Freezing & Crashing odd reason when I take out a stick and only run the system with mb I can run half-life and episode with no problems at all It s only when I put in the second stick that I get problems with the game But to make sure that one of the ram sticks wasn t faulty I switch them both and ran the game and it all works as long as I only have total system memory So just to check I also used a friends generic x mb DDR for both ram slots to make sure that maybe there wasn t anything wrong with the second ram slot but it worked just fine the entire time So I m kind of at a loss at the moment on what could be wrong My motherboard is a P P S-X that I had to get about a year ago because my original broke Thanks for any help nbsp
