have I a faulty disk?

Q: have I a faulty disk?

i have a very bad stressed son again as it seems nothing is ever simple and it makes him in foul mood- dont blame him as hes spent of his christmas game which crashed so that was my computer but still annoying and now hes tried to instal the add on and it wont do anything i think i hae a faulty disk actually- it looks like a duff one came out of faulty disk? I a have the factory- blank with nothing on it- so i look at the technical support which is as brief as ever and says when you can automatically instal browse the cd open it up click n set up exe and then it starts well the disk opened up and three things appeared autorun whcih did nothing then something else cant remember then have I a faulty disk? an icon so clicked on middle one which lead me to quot run as administrator quot and then again it spent the disk icon spinning around for eternity- jst like it does when i try and instal it frm the disk and click on the instal icon- the disk icon just spins and if i leave it long enough perhaps quot this program will not respond quot message might come up do you think its a faulty disk or is there some secret key i can use to instal the thing- i think its a duff one- but if there are other ways you can instal a stubborn disk and a disk that wont show its files well only three and no more than that can you let me know- nbsp

Preferred Solution: have I a faulty disk?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, my boot disk won't let me repair a few files and this causes my xp not to be able to install. So im stuck with it giving me errors on installation of my pc. I know you can create a boot disk for the computer but it requires me to be logged on that pc at that time. I thought about creating one on my laptop but I have windows 7 in 64 bit so that is not going to work on my windows xp 32 bit pc.

What can i do to resolve this. I've tried everything logical.

Just built a new machine and booted it for first time the other day Had a problem first of all with the machine losing power and dying Sorted that by buying a new PSU The PSU was the only part that was definatley not brand new so sods law really Got the new power supply installed and booted up to run the Vista install from disc There is a weird clunking sound coming from the hard disk though help.... Possible hard faulty, disk please and occasionally a kind of bouncing sound can just be heard When I Possible hard disk faulty, please help.... got to the hard disk Partition formatting part before the actual install it showed up the hard disk with the correct capacity so I partitioned with the maximum amount and then clicked on format It just hung for ages and then told me no hard disk could be found I checked the BIOS and it was seeing a hard disk and showing the correct capacity I dont know what to think Is my hard disk faulty what is that weird sound Does anyone know Damien nbsp

A:Possible hard disk faulty, please help....

Did you tighten the screws on the HDD?
Why didn't let Vista Format the HDD to new NFS.
If you a clunking noise the HDD is gone..

Did you say you just built a new PC but used old parts?

My computer is running quite well but I have a problem with freezing when I run the "Check Disk" checking tool. The whole computer seizes up and I have to use the Restart button to begin again. This happens each time that I run "Check Disk". I have XP Home OS. Everything else seems to work OK though. I also have Norton System Works Pro which has several utility tools that check the disk, the system and the registry and all these work well so this has got me stumped. The box that has to be ticked to run "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is the problem and not the other choice.
Hoping someone can help me out?
Cheers
John

Hello Everyone Thank you for taking time to read my post hard-drive) faulty sure (pretty A a Occurred it's Disk Error not Read Here is my issue in as concise of terms as A Disk Read Error Occurred (pretty sure it's not a faulty hard-drive) possible Computer is a Sony Vaio VGC-RC G not sure about motherboard About weeks ago computer starts refusing to boot giving errors that make me think the hard drive is bad Computer will still occasionally boot after - tries I bought a new hard drive and tried to create an image of the old drive onto the new using Clonezilla the process gave a few errors The computer flatly refused to boot from the new drive gave disk read errors However when I could boot using the old drive I could get in and explore the image of the new drive and the image copy process seemed to have worked okay As part of the disk image copy process my new drive had partitions and about megs of free space The two partitions were the main windows partition from the old drive and the recovery partition I combined all partitions and formatted the new drive using Gparted because I thought that the disk image copy probably just recreated errors in the old drive onto the new After the format my computer then consistently refused to boot from either drive in the past I could boot to the old drive after a couple of tries The error was usually quot a disk read error occurred' or quot BOOTMGR is missing quot Attempts to install windows using windows install DVD failed because computer couldn't write to the new hard drive Both hard drives would usually appear in bios when I entered into it I know at least one time where neither appeared in the bios although sometimes computer would fail allow me to edit bios altogether I attached the new hard drive to a DIFFERENT COMPUTER and installed a clean version of windows Ultimate x to the new drive The DIFFERENT COMPUTER boots just fine from the new hard drive But when I move the new hard drive to back to the old computer I consistently now get quot a disk read error occurred quot error I don't believe it is a SATA cable issue because power to drive seems to be fine and I had to use the SATA cable from the old computer when hooking the drive up to the DIFFERENT COMPUTER and it worked fine Also Gparted recognizes the drive just fine and has no problems formatting partitions etc so there is communication happening through the SATA cable and the power cable is powering adequately TL DR summary New hard drive works fine with new computer but old computer when connected to same new hard drive gives me a quot disk read error occurred quot Based on the evidence I don't think it's a faulty drive issue I'm also skeptical that it's a cable issue but haven't ruled out this possibility What should I do next in terms of identifying the problem I've currently exhausted my admittedly limited hardware troubleshooting expertise Thanks again for helping me work on this I appreciate it Love wackydavo P S Edited for clarity typos punctuation etc

Hi,
I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

---------------------------------------
Thanks,
Marlon

I believe drivers? faulty BSOD 116 card or graphics faulty the initial crash was caused by overheating Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time more on that later Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine I can boot into safe mode and I have already reinstalled windows My motherboard is Asus B M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV A GTX How I got it to work for a short amount of time I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

A while ago I was working on my computer when out of the blue it restarts. I picked the -Start Windows Normally option. Before it even gets to the desktop it would restart all over again. It did this until I removed the RAM sticks from DIMM slots B (slot 3 and 4) Now my computer is really slow. My computer is a HP a250n with 4x 256 ram.

A few days ago I did a full wipe on the HD to see if that would clear up the problem. It works well with only 2 sticks. When I put in the 3rd or/and 4th sticks I get to the desktop fine but only for a few minutes then it restarts and the screen goes blank. I tried switching the sticks but nothing works. What could it be?

A:Faulty ram?

Do a memtest
Have you tried swapping the memory sticks from 3-4 with the ones in 1-2?
This will help verify whether it's the sticks or the slots.
The memory test will help also.

Hi I am new here. My pc recently restarts playing some games which is strange to me. I did some internet research and found that it could be me psu or gpu.
My pc spec:
Intel core i7 870 (base clock)
Intel motherboard dh55pj
Sapphire hd 6870 igb
Transcend ram (4+2) gb
Samsung 500 gb hdd
Thermaltake smartpower 550 watt psu 80+ bronze

Also I borrowed a friends` 6850 gpu+ 450 watt psu to see if there is anu problem in my mobo or processor but it was just fine. But I gave my friend my gpu psu combo and he faced problems like mine after using them for 1 week.
So now I am certain that either my gpu or my psu has gone bad. but I cant know for sure which one.Any helps.....

A:Faulty GPU or PSU?

Does your friend have a 500W PSU so they can test your GPU with their PSU? If they can test just the GPU, it might answer your question.

Actually 500W has head room, a 450W PSU might be enough to test for a week or so.

I checked all connections and only removed hd. well found someone on craigslist that checked it for me and said it was the processor?
could that be true?
And also on a different pc, is it bad to have a cpu on a motherboard that is to fast. this guy said the cpu is to fast for it. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank You all. alex from council bluffs, iowa..

I am unable to measure any DC volts in my PC and suspect that there is no mains supply to the PSU . What would be the sequence of steps that you would take to determine where the fault lay, obvously whilst complying with safety proceedures?

Just buy a psu tester as they do not cost much and use it. If the psu test bad then replace it not repair it.

I'm having intermittant problems booting up. Sometimes I get wrong system disk message, other times just the 'wait' message while you think its booting up. I've gone into the bios and 'auto detected' so it will continue to boot at times.
Sometimes if I give the tower a 'nudge' it will continue. I'm using Windows 98 and have a 8 Gb HDD and a second 6Gb formatted but with nothing on it yet. Any ideas? How do I change the boot to use the other drive? but still able to use both for data. Thanks

If you 'nudge' the tower and it continues, that might suggest a loose IDE connection.

Open the case and check that all cables are secured firmly.

LOL - you'll be even angrier if you don't and your sweet mobo gets gerfunkled.

Yes, that is TOO low on the 12v rail. Whether that reading is accurate or not is another question. Getting a measurement off of a 12v fan lead might verify that if you have a tester available.

Greetings.
Last Christmas, I ordered a 1TB Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive online. When it arrived, it did not work at all, for my network did not detect the drive, even with seemingly nothing wrong.
Since then, I have called Iomega and replaced the drive, and this one arrived a few days ago. Since its initiation (that is, after it being plugged into my router) the bottom indication LED on the drive has been flashing between orange and blue, which is apparently due to the drive failing to detect a DHCP server.
What is it that I have to do next to fix it?

A:Faulty NAS

Do you assign IP numbers on your network, or do you let the router do so?

If DHCP Server is enabled on the router, it'll assign an IP#. If not, then DHCP won't even be detected. Now, if you DO have DHCP Server enabled on the router, you're probably looking at another dud - this time with the nic in the NAS being bad where the other one was a bad controller. Or even a bad cable.

I was wondering if there was any diagnostic tool out there that could determine if my CPU is kicking the bucket?

My graphics card is fried at the moment, but I also think that either my CPU or RAM is dying. I notice that my computer is running VERY slowly. I'm not sure if this could be contributed to the dead/dying graphics unit, but I'm worried nonetheless.

I just did an external test boot. With just the the CPU, graphics card. motherboard and ram all installed. But When i started it up I had no beep from the motherboard speaker and no display on the screen. I am now starting to believe that somthing may be wrong with one of the compannats.

Unless anyone has any ideas to why nothing is happening I am going to asume there is a faulty part.

Does anyone have any idea which part might be faulty? Or just any idea of why I am getting no display and no beep.

Thanks.

A:Faulty Ram?

The best way to test your RAM is to download Memtest86 and run it overnight. If it passes that the RAM isn't your problem.

When I am trying to open something like "the news" from an email, it opens up in IE as an invalid syntax ("the page cannot be displayed"). Mozilla is my chosen default browser and I also run Acoo.

I have XP Home Edition S Pack2.

Would a faulty RAM socket or module make this flashing screen come up?

This screen came after "a half post" where it posted the the first few lines of what it was supposed to. The reason I ask is cause when I moved the RAM into the other socket on the board it worked fine?

A:Would faulty RAM do this?

It could, especially if you its integrated video.

I'd test the RAM to be sure its good: http://www.memtest.org/

Hello good people My PC was running fine but then one night I turned it off and in the morning when I went Faulty Faulty PSU HDD??? or to turn it on it took ages There was no slow degradation it just went from being ok to not being ok When I hit the power button it used to spark up straight away now it just sits there for about five seconds and then sparks up and loads up slowly Once it s loaded it seems to work but more slowly than it used to I have hard drives both partitioned The C drive and F drive are on the old-ish original HDD and an x and y Faulty PSU or Faulty HDD??? on the new hdd I Faulty PSU or Faulty HDD??? have most of my program files on the c drive and documents etc on the f drive X and y is mainly for multi media stuff As I say everything was working fine I could be wrong but it seems that when I access the c drive it is slow but when I access the z drive it isn t as slow unless I launch say an mp file then it takes a while for the track to play I assume and possibly wrongly that its because the mp player is coming from the program files an the c drive I have run the usual suspects of spyware etc and posted my HJT log for someone to look at and they say it looks fine there were no nasty surprises on any of the scans I have scanned the disk and checked for errors and its fine although it did take an age From reading forums it seems like it could be a faulty PSU or my hard drive is about to die I have backed up the suspect hard drive with acronis so my question is how do I go about determining exactly what the problem is Some other clues that might help are Sometimes on booting up it would scan the z drive and do the error check thing for no apparent reason well not apparent to me anyway I never asked it to I have scanned the z drive since and it was fine The first morning I had the problem it was trying to boot up from the diskette and just keep cycling through and stumbling at the same point I changed the bios thing to ignore the diskette and it then loaded up Thanks for your time G Windows xp home Service pack Mcafee internet security suite GB ram Athlon xp mhz nbsp

I bought my new TB Caviar Black WD FAEX couple of weeks ago The HDD? Faulty only thing I've put on the drive is a GB backup Acronis image of my SSD Thing is it would appear to be faulty Normally my PC boots fine from SSD with HDD connected but couldn't get it to boot last night it was hanging on the starting windows screen forever Also when I loaded Acronis to see if I could access the TB drive it took some time while Acronis was 'Analysing E ' then it came up with 'failed to read sectors ' After cancelling it went into Acronis backup and recovery screen and I could see the drive and the backup image But Faulty HDD? when I disconnected the drive my SSD booted fine Having used Faulty HDD? Crystal Disk last night and HD tune these are the results There only seems to be one red block Do I need to RMA it or Faulty HDD? just format it and see if it clears But even if it does clear does it suggest a dodgy drive Just rang the etailer they said rma and collection will be ok but they'd like me to run WD's own Datalife Diagnostic Tool So I better do that I suppose

A:Faulty HDD?

Oh well, it's all academic now as I've got an RMA sorted, collection tomorrow and then replacement drive in a few days.

As it happens, it took ages for the WD diagnostics tool to read the drive and the estimated time went up and up and up to around 40 hours before it got past the bad bit. Now it's showing under 2 hours left.

So my mother's Geforce 6200 fan has started to catch on the sides of the heatsink, I have no clue if its because the little axle inside the fan has warped, or due to overheating or maybe even in need of greasing.
My first question would be, is there a way to find out if it is even fixable? Second, if not, are any of you familiar with any north american component dealer stores that I may find?

I'm located in Odessa, FL
Ordering online isn't really an option tho if I absolutely had to I would, I'm more interested in just going to some store and snatching up a new heatsink for it.

A:Faulty cpu or the mb?

Go back to the most basic setup you can imagine...
One memory module, one video connection, and a cd or a simple hard drive... or an external floppy drive with a Windows 98 disk.
Attempt a boot.
If no boot, change to the other memory module. Attempt another boot.

The idea is to try various simple boots, and avoid using the hard drive if you can... use a different hard drive known good with Windows 95 or windows 98 installed... or boot to a floppy boot disk or a CD with Windows 98, 95, or ME disk on it..
Motherboards are pretty solid, and the Intell is one of the better ones. Processors rarely go out.
Common failures are (1) dead memory module, (2) failed power supply, or (3) bad hard drive. Very often if any of those three are bad, the computer will not start up.
Testing the power supply is more difficult. Once simple test is to watch the back of the power supply with a strong light. Have somebody else press the <ON> button while you watch to see if the fan blades on the power supply turn. If they turn only 1/8 turn to 1 turn and quit, the power supply is usually bad and is the likely problem.
Better yet, buy or borrow a power supply tester. They cost anywhere from $9 to $29, depending on quality or complexity.

They worked before, but now they are acting up. Could there be another problem other than getting new cd-rom drives? Please help!

A:Another faulty CD-ROM

Things to check.....
Cables to the drive and motherboard are seated all the way in.
Make sure the drives jumpers for master and slave are correct.
Is the drive detected correctly in device manager? Is there any exclamation points?

Try these out first before assuming you need a new drive.

A:Is my new RAM faulty?

I'd pick up one of these memory tests, install the memory as the only RAM in the system, and run them. Try moving the memory to different slots to see if the location affects the errors. ANY errors running these tests for any length of time is a problem.

Hi there,

I have a PCI-E slot that doesn't seem to work with a 9500gt. The 9500gt worked for many months then all of a sudden, no display appeared on my monitor one day. I switched to another PSU (weaker but still adequate), but still the same result. After doing some more hardware changes, I assumed it was a dead motherboard. Luckily I had a friend who had a spare EAH3450 Silent, and it worked! I have been using it ever since and my PC has ran with no problems.

I also tried a 9800gt and still no display. I checked the BIOS menu and saw that the display adapter was on PCI, changed it to PCI-E, but once again the same problem. I am not sure if this is a power problem since the 9500gt has such a low requirement and worked for a period of time. Any suggestions as to what might have happened?

Boiling down a problem to the simplest, single issue – my XP professional installation is not correctly installed and is not working correctly. The causes of this situation are faulty tech support, multiple repairs and fixes – almost all made thing worse.

Both Microsoft auto update and Windows Live OneCare state there is an important security update that needs to be installed. When I allow auto update or OneCare to perform the update – it fails. The error messages are as follows:

1. Security Update For Microsoft XML Core Service 4.0 Service Pack2 (kb936181 or kb916281) not installed.
2. Security Update For Cumulative Security Update Internet Explorer for Windows XP (kb936181) not installed.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and my keyboard wasn't working. So i brought a new one change it and the keyboard was working. i update my laptop and then turn it off. the next day it back on and this is what I was looking at. Can anyone please tell if i touch something and lossen the screen? Or is the screen goingbad? Or does the keyboard got something to do with this problem?

A:Faulty Screen

As you have recently dismantled some bits to change the keyboard, the first thing I would is remove it again and carefully check for any dislodged cables or connectors. Its fairly easy to nudge connectors so they look like they are attached but they don't make good enough contact to operate correctly.

I would also attach an external monitor and check that the picture on that is OK, this confirms that the problem is the screen or cabling and not the graphics adaptor itself.

Hi My isp is telecom and i have a netcomm router on a random day internet suddenly stopped working and i checked with my isp that they are having issues Dont know what exactly when the services status was back up and running my internet still didnt work i had the dsl light on but internet light wasnt coming on i rang telcom and they said that sometimes my settings could reset or something and i did a hard reset and configured back to normal but it still wouldnt work telecom advised me to contact cause to my faulty? modem become ISP netcomm and try to configure the settings but they said its either the phone line or i need a new modem the thing is telecom said their phone line is perfectly fine and said its the problem with the modem which i think is true my question is can the modem randomly become fauly all of a sudden and stop working Who is at fault here Can telecom's faulty server or something cause my modem to become unusable

A:ISP cause my modem to become faulty?

Hi there .. Yes any Hardware can become faulty .. Have had a Router which became faulty just after a months useage .. The Earth net would work but not the Wireless .. Resetting your Modem can not do it any harm .. As you own the Modem you are responsible for it .. I was lucky as my Router came with my ISP so they replaced it .. How old is your Modem and what is the Model Number ? ...

I recently ordered the dell xps laptop from dells website whilst they were offering the discount on it around weeks ago I received Faulty Dell 13 xps the laptop after a week and within a few days noticed Faulty Dell xps 13 a few track pad bugs and glitches where the mouse would jump the screen while scrolling and move erratically I downloaded the latest Faulty Dell xps 13 bios and these issues seemed to stop occurring as frequently Because nbsp I didn t want to go through the headache of nbsp calling customer service for an issue that only came up once or twice So I ignored it whenever the issue arised and just continued weeks later ie today the computers power settings stopped working The same time this nbsp issue nbsp came up nbsp there was a crackling sound inside the computer My first thought was the speakers were acting up so I tried to test them by playing music and then I realised that the cracking was not coming from the speaker but the actual hardware it self after listening closely I think its around the touchpad area I thought the two issues were somehow connected that I somehow managed to get a virus despite installing literally next to nothing on my laptop literally just office Spotify nbsp dell drivers and a game i ve had since I got the laptop weeks ago To fix the power problems ie the display sleep and computer sleep times nbsp as it would just shut the display off after minute of inactivity regardless of the power settings I checked the forums and realised this too was a common issue someone suggested to reinstall windows and seeing as i only had Microsoft office downloaded I thought it would be fine I reset windows and managed to fix the issue However literally as soon as the computer started downloading windows again I could hear that crackling from within the computer nbsp As if that wasn t enough after re installing the track pad nbsp went back to its original erratic state nbsp Id spent atleast hours on the forums and trying to reset my computer and had gotten fed up I recalled that this computer came with year of premium support and warranty as well as the year accidental damage plan I took So I tried to find out how I could contact customer support Literally no results I searched the dell uk website for ages and no definitive email or premium support phone number I thought these people came to ur house to fix issues How can dell brag about a service it doesn t offer After searching for almost half an hour on the dell website all I came across was how to extend my warranty and the benefits of premium customer support Incase the person reading this didn t manage to understand what the problem is I will kindly summarise The touch pads behaviour is erratic at times a common issue The power settings don t work fixed through reseting the laptop There is a crackling noise coming from near the touchpad area whenever I start up my computer it lasts for around mins before going away - this is also a fairly common issue I want to find an email or number for the UK where I can use the premium on site service I have from the year nbsp premium nbsp customer service subscription nbsp Sorry for the semi- rant but I just want to get this fixed asap as I need this laptop for school and I don t have a replacement Thanks

Well on the other end (ie not worrying about the files)
HP USB Disk Storage Format Utility
Http://downloads.pcworld.com/pub/new/utilities/peripherals/SP27608.exe

Will format any USB flash drive
It can be known to recover Flash drives that are un-responsive too.

But to recover your files, first try another computer USB port

A:Which part is the faulty one?

OK, I am not understanding the following;
I just got a new motherboard (thinking that might be the problem) and put everything together perfectly and it turns on with lights and all fans running but now there's nothing on the screen at all. Click to expand...

Then this;
so I know for sure the temps aren't getting higher than 60Celsius in there. Click to expand...

If you cannot get a display with the new board, how can you know what the temps are?

Next have you read and followed the steps in the guide at the top of the page for problem builds?

When I try and view videos they randomly freeze. Sometimes it might run for 30 seconds and then freeze 15-45 seconds before starting up again. A 2 or 3 minute video might freeze 4-6 times before it finishes. This happens on most videos I try and view, however the video on the techguy site telling new members how the sie works did not suffer from any freezing.
Any help appreciated!!

Hello to all out there!
I was trying to burn a dvd disk, but my burner was trying and never stopping. I wasn't even able to open the burner by pressing the open button. Even after restart it continued to run without stopping.

I got curious why the disk would not burn, so I scanned the disk in question alongside another disk which was untouched yet. I found that around the inner periphery the disk which could not be written had two circles while the untouched on had one circle. Could that have to do with the problem?

I'm attaching images of the two disks.
Thanks.

Sometimes when i boot my Windows Vista computer, it trys to boot from a network. It obviously doesnt find it and it tells me to hit enter. I hit enter and proceeds to boot normally. My computer then runs find for 5 or so minutes. It runs at a reduced speed but nothing terribally slow. Then it either hangs at my desktop and has a white film over it (i can't click anything at all), or it reboots my computer, or it will go into this mode(see screenshot), which leads me to believe i have a faulty harddrive. Is this the case? or is it something else? also how would i go about fixing it?

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

I recently tried to make a copy of a video cd and was unable to do so. I received some error messages and decided not to attempt this again. Unfortunately ever since I did this my CDRW has been unable to recognize that there is a cd in the carriage. The first time my problem happened, it was fixed by installing SP2. However it is now BACK. In WinXP's Help & Support, there is often a blue underlined phrase : 'Related Topics' at the bottom of the right side pane. Normally when that is clicked, a box with a few topics opens. Clicking on one of those topics causes another page to open - i.e. they are (hyper?)links. I no longer get acces to the boxes with the various topic links. Instead, I get a box 'Connect to' inviting me to go on-line, or at other times for every click on Related Topics, an icon of a scratch-pad appears a paragraph higher up. Since SP2 is already loaded, and a reloading of it does not fix the problem, what can I do now ?

A:Faulty Ram -But which module?

No there really isn't. I would remove one and run the test again then replace it and do again. While the memory test in Windows is better than nothing I would still run memtest86 before making any decisions and run it for 4 full tests where each one has 8 passes and then you will know for sure. Do it with only 1 stick in each time. Any errors at all mean you have the culprit.

The card seems faulty as it can only provided 640 x 480 resolution on both VGA and DVI.

Probably a chip fault but is it worth taking the heatsink off an reapplying paste ?

Memory Testing (including bootable CD's and floppies):

Memtest86
MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Roadkil's RAM Test
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista or 7, tap F8 on boot and choose the memory diagnostic, or if you can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

mdsched.exe

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

My PCI slot dial up modem only works once after i uninstall it (add or remove programs) and restart PC? After i hang up then try to reconnect i get an error 721 or 633. Have used modem troubleshooter but to no avail. Restarting PC WITHOUT uninstalling renders the same problem! Problem SEEMED to occur after installing Motorola phone tools program and plugging in mobile phone. Have uninstalled this programme completely and unplugged phone of course but still the same? Any help appreciated. P.S. I have used this programme before without ant drama? I reinstalled it as i reinstalled windows!

A:Faulty modem?

Error 721: The remote computer is not responding
Error 633 The port is already in use or is not configured for Remote Access Dialout

This can be a driver issue, you may wish to Google your modem drivers, or ideally go to the modem's manufacturers support page.

PCI slot dial up modem. Hmm Sometimes it's a lot easier just to remove it, and purchase a new one, they're very very cheap now highspeed is in.

A:defective gpu or faulty psu?

I looked up ntoskrnl.exe and hit on the Tom's Hardware site. Go here Ntoskrnl Windows 10 and see if anything helps you there.

This tells me it could even be your motherboard. Although, generally, high video usage generally will get you errors, so it could be the video card. Or even faulty RAM. I think the PSU would be the least suspect of all, then the motherboard, you say RAM is fine, so for me, I'd have the video card checked.

Are you playing only one game or several? If only one, that could be suspect also.

Hi

I've found a Dell XPS B600r in the recycling center and took it home. I put it together correctly, but it won't do anything, but lighting up the power LED and start all fans and drives.
Screen flashes with some vidoe-cards one, with others it's always black.
RAM is ok, cuz th PC beeps without, but with he don't beep.
I hav removed everything except the processor and ram and the powerbutton form the board.
I have tested with a 333MHz, a 600MHz and an unknown processor. I have tested with about 2 AGP and 1 PCI graphiccard, and without.
Always the same.
I have removed the battery once too.

Is the board bad? Can I fix it?

Greetz H4N$L!

A:Mainboard faulty?

I would do a google search on the MB to find out the exact specs. Then if I had the parts I would try a build.

If your recycling center is anything like mine (a stopping place before the dump) then the MB is probably bad to start with.

Hey everyone, my cd-rom drive isn't working very good. When I put in a disk, it usually can't tell that there's a disk in it. And when i go to My Computer and double click on it, it says: "please insert a disk into drive: E" even when there is a disk in. When I put in a certain cd and then double click on drive E it will work (sometimes). I don't know what's wrong, do you think it's broken or the driver is just messed up? The driver I have right now is (the one it lists in device manager): CREATIVE CD5233E-N
Can anyone help?
