I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Black screen crash and sound loop while playing games

If that +12v rail voltage is accurate then that would definately be a problem. Check the voltage in the BIOS as it could be a simple case of HWMonitor not reading the sensor output correctly.

Can you give us a DXDiag report.

Click Start and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the Run box.

When the dxdiag window opens click the Save All Information button and save the text file to your desktop or another location so you know where it is.

Then copy and paste the entire content of that text file into a reply here.

New fresh install of windows 8 updated to 8.1 with all my motherboard drivers etc up to date. Display drivers are the newest Omega drivers from AMD.

I installed steam and decided to install csgo to my ssd/C: drive since it's my most played game. Now I can play the game fine but after a short amount of time the game and display drivers will crash giving me a black screen and sound loop. I let it sit there for a while so I could get a bsod and crash dump to happen.

Since then I also updated my ssd to the latest firmware and reinstalled my AMD drivers and the problem still persists. I have no other games installed at the moment so if you wan't me to check if the crash happens with other games let me know.

Here is my debug info

I had a desktop that was just sitting for about 2 years without use and just hooked it up to my TV to make a media center. I immediately installed Windows 7 and had a fresh slate so old software problems shouldn't be an issue. All drivers are up to date.

The problem is that whenever a game is played, it will randomly create a black screen with buzzing sound. Some games is completely random, other games crash at about the same point. Sometimes the video signal cuts out to the TV, sometimes it just stays black. Either way it needs to be manually turned off. I have checked GPU temperatures and they are about 80C under load. I have ran memtest86 and no errors on the RAM. I just don't know what else it could be.

The specs are:

Intel Core 2 3000MHz
2x2GB Corsair DDR2-400
ATI 4850
OCZ 500W Power Supply

Hey, recently I have been experiencing troubles playing games on my brand new PC.
I can play a game for a while, and then suddenly the screen will go completely black for about 5 seconds every half a minute or so. The game still plays (which usually results in me dying 'cause I can't see!) but there is no display.

I have a P4 3.4ghz with HT, 1024MB of RAM and a 256MB GeForce 7600GS

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Pretty much what happens is that i'll be playing a game for about an hour or two, and then the screen will suddenly go black, but the audio still plays. To get the computer responding again I have to manually restart the computer. This happens at random times in my games; I could be playing for not even 5 minutes and it will stop responding, and sometimes I can play for 3 hours straight and not a single thing happens.

I'm getting blue screen of death when playing World of Tanks. Sometimes the sound gets really choppy before it crashes. Every time it does, the sound loops before BSOD. I had an xonar d1 that I removed. When I tried to uninstall the device the computer immediately BSOD. Currently I am running off on the onboard audio, but I am still getting BSOD. Drivers are all current. This is a pretty high end system that is not overclocked. MemTest Ran for 12+ hours with no errors. Any help will be appreciated.

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error

If you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps.

If you continue to get BSOD here are some more things you may want to consider.

This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though it is"possible" that it is driver related (rare).

Quote:
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Synopsis:

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:

1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.
2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled.
If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.
3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware.
It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.
4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Their website should provide detailed instructions as to the brand and model-specific procedure.
5) Rarely, bugs in the OS may cause "false positive" 0x124 events where the hardware wasn't complaining but Windows thought otherwise (because of the bug).
At the time of writing, Windows 7 is not known to suffer from any such defects, but it is nevertheless important to always keep Windows itself updated.

6) Attempt to (stress) test those hardware components which can be put through their paces artificially.
The most obvious examples are the RAM and HDD(s).
For the RAM, use the in-built memory diagnostics (run MDSCHED) or the 3rd-party memtest86 utility to run many hours worth of testing.
For hard drives, check whether CHKDSK /R finds any problems on the drive(s), notably "bad sectors".
Unreliable RAM, in particular, is deadly as far as software is concerned, and anything other than a 100% clear memory test result is cause for concern. Unfortunately, even a 100% clear result from the diagnostics utilities does not guarantee that the RAM is free from defects - only that none were encountered during the test passes.

7) As the last of the non-invasive troubleshooting steps, perform a "vanilla" reinstallation of Windows: just the OS itself without any additional applications, games, utilities, updates, or new drivers - NOTHING AT ALL that is not sourced from the Windows 7 disc.
Should that fail to mitigate the 0x124 problem, jump to the next steps.
If you run the "vanilla" installation long enough to convince yourself that not a single 0x124 crash has occurred, start installing updates and applications slowly, always pausing between successive additions long enough to get a feel for whether the machine is still free from 0x124 crashes.
Should the crashing resume, obviously the very last software addition(s) may be somehow linked to the root cause.
If stop 0x124 errors persist despite the steps above, and the harware is under warranty, consider returning it and requesting a replacement which does not suffer periodic MCE events.
Be aware that attempting the subsequent harware troubleshooting steps may, in some cases, void your warranty:

8) Clean and carefully remove any dust from the inside of the machine.
Reseat all connectors and memory modules.
Use a can of compressed air to clean out the RAM DIMM sockets as much as possible.

9) If all else fails, start removing items of hardware one-by-one in the hope... Read more

So far this only seems to be happening with Steam-based games TF HL etc Though I bought Bioshock through Steam it too crashes but these are normal game crashes where the screen goes black you crash to desktop and Windows properly reports that the game crashed and you're back at a responsive desktop With the Steam games after a random amount of time the game's audio will loop and the frames will lock then the hard loop, and HDD sound games cause crash click Steam-based drives will begin to click once per second constantly If I'm quick you can CTRL ALT DEL and Steam-based games cause sound loop, crash and HDD click click LOGOFF to get to the desktop and Steam-based games cause sound loop, crash and HDD click start again but if the HDDs begin clicking you have to do a shutdown in time or the whole PC becomes unresponsive After a forced shutdown the BIOS will sometimes reports issues before being able to boot up normally Through the troubleshooting process Valve requested a dump which at that time I performed however that was a time when the HDD never clicked because I had time to ALT TAB out of the game and do the dump write With the HDD click errors you simply don't have the time to write a dump But I've hosted the dump file for review here Any help would be greatly appreciated

Through the troubleshooting process, Valve requested a dump, which at that time, I performed, however that was a time when the HDD never clicked (because I had time to ALT+TAB out of the game and do the dump write) With the HDD click errors, you simply don't have the time to write a dump.

But I've hosted the dump file for review here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Just recently upgraded to a ATI gigabyte 5770 from a Galaxy 9800GT. After installing driver from the cd, all seemed fine. On boot up, the desktop will appear, then the screen will flash black for a few seconds, then back to the desktop. This happens every single time i boot the PC up. I also sometimes crash to a black screen. When it crashes, i can still hear audio for about 5 seconds, then it too will crash and freeze. From here i have to reboot the PC.
I tried a full uninstall of driver, but had the same results. Some days it will be fine, without a single crash, but sometimes i can get 5 crashes in a single day.
Im running XP proffesional sp3

intel xeon e3110 3.00GHz, 2x 2gb ddr2, antec truepower 550w.
any help appreciated, cheers.

So I have had this problem for the past month or so it started around the time I installed my new graphics card It only happens when I play visually intensive games like Rise of the Tomb Raider Subnautica Just Cause I can however play less intensive games like Undertale Minecraft or Superhot After starting a game a few minutes in it suddenly black screens and crashes Most of the time the windows exclamation sound plays but sometimes the audio will skip loop or just play incoherent noise No messages pop up and even if they did I wouldn't be able to see it My monitor will cycle through the main inputs HDMI DVI and VGA then just go to 'no signal' However the fans and LEDs all stay on and for a couple seconds I can still control what's going on behind the black screen but shortly after it fully crashes and I have to manually restart the computer Here's my system specs CPU Intel Core i - K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core GHz screen/crash Black during games. A:Black screen/crash during games.

Method 1:
I suggest you to follow the below steps.

1. While at the black screen, try using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager.
2. If it becomes visible, try finding LockAppHost.exe on the Details tab and ending the task.

If this resolves the black screen, use corruption resolution steps (dism, then sfc), and run the all apps PowerShell command.

3. If this does not work, use File, Run new task in Task Manager to start an Administrator CMD window. Use this to create a new administrator user with the following commands (changing “<password>” to something of the customer’s choosing):net user test <password> /add
net localgroup Administrators test /add
4. This will give you a test user to try, which will confirm if the issue is user or system-specific.

Method 2: Temporarily Prevent a Windows or driver update
In Windows 10, your device is always kept up to date with the latest features and fixes. Updates and drivers are installed automatically, with no need to select which updates are needed or not needed. In rare cases, a specific driver or update might temporarily cause issues with your device, and in this case you will need a way to prevent the problematic driver or update from reinstalling automatically the next time Windows Updates are installed.

Please refer to the below article “How to temporarily prevent a Windows or driver update from reinstalling in Windows 10” and follow the steps and check if it helps.

I know it sounds simple but check the cables from your PC to the monitor and monitor power cable? Are your drivers up to date? Also what did you use to check the computer temps CPUID works great you can find it here ftp://ftp.cpuid.com/hwmonitor-pro/hwmonitor-pro_1.13-setup-en.exe.

Don't know if this is the right section to post this in, but here goes.

Recently I have been getting black screens just a while after I have started a game. All sound dies and the computer just keeps running.

I downloaded the SF diagnostics tool and got a folder created, which is attached here.

A:Black Screen when playing games.

Is it a pure solid black screen? How long it is staying? Is it giving any notification balloon from the systrey when it occurs or the display is getting back?

The zip you uploaded contains some crash dumps. Though those are kinda old, but indicates some graphics failure, stop 0x116 BSODs.

In this situation, you need to check the following things.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator
At least 30% free is safe. Also let us know about the wattage of the PSU.

Make it sure that you are using the NVIDIA DRIVERS 320.49WHQL display driver.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Also, it is important to know that if the black screen is accompanied by any balloon like this or not.
Let us know the results.

Hey there!

I've got a quite irritating problem. When I play WoW or Mw2 (haven't tried other games) my computer screen goes black after some time, usually between 10-30 minutes, and my computer fans starts to work for all they're worth. The picture doesn't come back so I have to manually reboot the computer by holding the power button, and the the temperature inside the computershell is cool with a good airflow. I'm running a windows vista 32-bit version and my graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT. I asked the computer store where I buyed it to try and see if they could find the problem, but they had no clue what it could be.
I've tried updating my drivers, scanning for virus etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards
Enertez

You should never ever use a vacuum to clean your computer. It will ruin the electrical components on the motherboard and any other devices attached inside. Use a can of air or compressed air.
As for your error, what happens when the black screen appears? Can you still hear sound? Does the whole PC lock up?

This is caused by nvlddmkm.sys, part of the Nvidia drivers

Causes:
Bad memory/PSU/PCI slot/GPU/bad driver/incorrect RAM timings or voltages

Test your memory with memtest86: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Remove Nvidia drivers by using Driver sweeper: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
Then reinstall the current drivers in safe mode

Test the 9800GT in another PC if possible

Have you checked your RAM? Run memtest for 6-8 passes on each stick to see if any of them is faulty.
Also, have you tried flashing your motherboard's BIOS to the latest version?

I forgot to say that if i just leave my computer turned on it will start restarting by itself after about 20-30 mins unless i actually use the computer. So downloading over-night is not a possibility either.

when i play games after a few minuets my comp locks up, the screen goes black and the sound loops. at first i thought it was the CPU overheating but the temp stays steady at 58 deg/c and dosnt rise before it locks up.

im relatively certain its my 9800 GTX+ graphics card thats the problem because of the nature of the lock ups and it takes longer for it to lock up if i use lower fps.

i have all the latest drivers

any advise on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated
here are my system specs

I have this same issue, but they are only specific to certain games: COD4, Fallout 3, Bioshock, Deadspace.
UT3, Assassins Creed, Crysis run fine.
I used to be able to play all these games fine, and I can't seem to recall ever changing anything to make them fail.

Game installs and starts fine. I am in the menu no more than 6 or 7 seconds then... Black screen with a sound loop. Forced to restart.
I have tried all of the typical fixes including drivers, heat, BIOS settings, background programs, complete reformat, etc
Someone please help!

Hi Animal,

Please test your memory and clean install the AMD video drivers.

Diagnostic Test

 RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 10 Forums

   Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.
Please uninstall everything of AMD using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from AMD. Be sure to ONLY install the drivers using custom/advanced options.

Read more

A:GAMES freeze/crash PC to Black Screen

I would suggest some hardware checks.

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Hi there, over the last few months my laptop has been frequently crashing when playing games such as Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Starcraft 2, as well as others. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with my computer since it should be capable of handling all of these programs.

It is Windows 7 Home Premium 64.
It is OEM.
The computer and OS Instillation are a bit over a year old.

Hello, I have some serious problems with my computer. I get black screen everytime I play games, like World of Warcraft and Counter Strike: Source.
In another Thread there was a guy with the same problem, he attached the MX-4 somehow and I don't know what that is, is it something you buy or is it something you download? The MX-4 seemed to be working for him so I wanna try that.

MX-4 is thermal paste for your cooling unit on the CPU. There are other possible factors that cause black screens. Run the FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net and |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card.

Also, overheating may be caused by dust. Get a can of compressed air and blow your system out keeping the can as upright as possible.

How long have you been having problems? How old is your hardware? How old is your Windows installation? When was the last time you did a clean install (format and install) or repair install (install over the top of the current installation through Windows) of Windows 7?

I'm posting this here because it is more of a general issue and not a gaming issue. If you feel it should be moved, go right ahead.

Out of the blue, my games randomly "visually" lock up and then go to a black screen, all the while still actually playing. Nothing is happening on my screen but the games are actually still working (I can hear my car driving and responding to my controls, or I can hear a gun shooting when I hit the button, but I can't SEE anything).

When I quit, my display colours are either reduced from 32bit to 16bit, or my screen size is reduced to 800x600 and the refresh rate is lowered to 60Hz. Sounds like my video card is resetting or something.

What's wrong with my computer?

A:ALL Games going to a black screen but keep playing in background

Do you have a graphics card or onboard video ( gfx built on to your motherboard) ? Sounds like the latter and insufficient memory (RAM) .
What OS are you running ? How much RAM do you have ? Do you have a graphics card installed ? If this is a new occurence have you made any big changes to your system recently ?

i would check the the temperatures of the GPU with msi afterburner and see what it idles at and see what it loads at when gaming your card might over heating or it might just be failing. also you might want to reseat your RAM and GPU and in your bios disable onboard audio to see if it fixes your issue. Check your even logs in windows and see if any odd errors come up. Finally use speccy > Speccy - Download and publish your report by going to file/publish snapshot like below then link us to your snapshot so we can see if anything looks odd.

HI,

I have just recently started to have problems where my computer is crashing when I am playing some games. Some games work fine and it just started doing this.

Here is my PC spec:

Windows 7 64 bit
AMD phenom II X4 830
16526 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

The computer just goes to a black screen. Sometimes with the "crash sound".

I have run dxdiag and everything seems to be fine.

THanks in advance for any help!

In the past I've post an issue I had were I was getting a B Blue SOD but now this is something different I hope When I launch either of games Borderlands and The Secret World after a while the screen will go dark and most of the time I'll hear a high pitched wine I'll restart the PC and everything is usually good I say usually because in the last days when booting up I'll get to the screen that says quot Starting windows quot or the desktop is about screen games when death playing Black of to be displayed and the screen goes dark The SSD firmware has been updated to the latest I Black screen of death when playing games worked with Kingston to Black screen of death when playing games do this In the BIOS the drive is configured to use Raid XHD and the drive is physically connected to the SATA port I have tried physically connecting it to a SATA for the firmware upgrade along with changing from Raid XHD to ACHI to IDE When I run the program Speccy it says that the status of S M A R T is bad and running Crystal Disk Info it says Unknown for the disk health and other fields

You want to run the SSD in AHCI mode. By changing the mode to other settings, you have probably caused some driver incompatibility in Windows. It may be fixable by going into your device manager and uninstalling all IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and their drivers and then installing only the Intel SATA drivers for your motherboard; stay away from the Marvell controllers because the older versions can cause conflicts with SSDs.

The following steps may help with re-installing only the Intel drivers.

To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
Click Start Menu
Right Click My Computer/Computer
Click Manage
Click Device Manager from the list on the left
Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
Right click the device
Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
Install the latest driver for the device.

Alternatively:Login as an adminstrative user.
First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
Click Start Menu
Click Control Panel
Click Hardware and Sound
Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
Right click the device
Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
Install the latest driver for the device.
I would also recommend running Disk Check with Automatically fix file system errors checked before doing the above. That will fix any corruption to the file system that may have resulted from the forced shut downs and restarts.

It's a but like saying my car won't start can you help now unless I know it is a diesel, petrol, electric or gas driven car, make model old / new etc etc where would I start to look??
I am suspecting you know a little about computers because you have run Furmark (your attachment) so please send the specs it is most important we know what you have in the machine.

since 2 days, i got some nasty problems with my graphics. I play Wow (world of warcraft) since november and i never had graphical issues...exept since 2 days ago, my screen went black all of a sudden and my comp seemed locked...i could still hear sound and talk to ppl via ventrilo. So first thought...reinstall graphic drivers along with direct X 9.0c...didnt do much and the problem is still there. I had graphical glitch while playing starcraft and a black screen whilke trying to launch day of defeat. I read an old post about black sceen and i wonder if u had a solution for it.

Some mof my comp specs...

mostly: ATI RADEON 9600 xt 256 mg <==== i think this is the problem (i hate ATI)
Processor: intel p4 2.4
board: albatron 845
memory: 512 ddr

A:Screen goes black for a few seconds while playing games (R9 290)

Before I answer your main question...

Quote:
When i load into the UEFI, my RAM displays as all sticks running at 1600 MHz. Even though 2 of my sticks are 1866.

That's normal. Your RAM will always clock at the lowest speed for the sticks in use. In this case 1600, because they are the lower speed of the two sets, so all the RAM clocks at that speed.

On to the video problem...

I have the same issue in Bioshock Infinite, the screen will black out after about 5 minutes of play, but I can hear everything. I discovered that its a problem in Catalyst Control Center. Setting the fan to auto speed will have it run about 20% and that's fine for normal use, but it never increases with the card temperature. It seems to be a bug. What I had to do was to set the fan to manual and run the fan at about 60% (can barely hear it). No more black screens.

I don't have the same card as you, but the problem I was having is the same as yours. I can't say I think much of AMD's temperature sensors on their graphics card either. Mine is always about 20 lower than my fan controller's temp reading says. No wonder my fans won't go faster. Afterburner may be having the same problem and not increasing your fan speed enough. If it's reading the wrong temperature...

Here's what's going on let me know if you need more information from me Games screen seconds minutes. - 10 between to 30 crash black I'm running Bootcamp on a mid- quot macbook pro MacBookPro - the one with the i cpu It has a Geforce m GPU I've been playing fairly graphic intensive games on it since I first bought it bioshock games fallout gta etc Recently I'd been playing Fallout New Vegas I got through about hours of New Vegas fine then it started to occasionally crash to a black screen the audio would loop and I would have to manually reboot Usually this would happen within seconds of loading up a save It happened rarely enough though that Games crash to black screen between 30 seconds - 10 minutes. I was able to play another hours without too much frustration occasionally have to deal with the crash This usually seemed to happen after waking the computer up from sleeping and would be fixed with one reboot Then I got Mass effect and started seeing this same crash black screen looped audio manual reboot required So i fired up New Vegas to compare the crashes and see what was going on and I found that New Vegas now consistently crashes in under minutes usually in under Every once in a while windows will recover the game itself would crash but I wouldn't need to reboot and I'd get a message about a display driver not responding and then being repaired or something of that nature It would show up and disappear so I don't have the exact message My reliability monitor gave me this Source Windows Summary Video hardware error Date PM Status Report sent Description A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly Problem signature Problem Event Name LiveKernelEvent OS Version Locale ID Extra information about the problem BCCode BCP FFFFFA B BCP FFFFF F C D BCP BCP OS Version Service Pack Product Bucket ID X x Tdr IMAGE nvlddmkm sys Server information b - - db-bc -a aec d d So I've tried a bunch of things - I manually set my fans to the full rpms and monitored my gpu temp and many times that it crashed it was lt C - I ran the game in Windowed Mode watched it get the gpu up to about C level out and play on fine for about half an hour - I booted into OSX and played Amnesia on high settings for an hour no problems - I stress tested with FurMark windowed AND fullscreen and got the GPU up to C but only for about seconds until it dropped down to C and leveled out again No crashes for minutes - Updated the drivers to the newest ones and also ran Driver Fusion to remove remnants of old drivers Windows would automatically put some other nvidia drivers on whenever I rebooted however so I'm not sure if I was ever able to FULLY remove ALL the NVIDIA drivers - Tried the games with the automatic drivers as well as the newest drivers both still crashed - Uninstalled and reinstalled the game Still crashing - Uninstalled Mass effect completely since this was when the problems seemed to get worse Couple things that seem important to me to note Windowed Mode seems to work fine Pretty peculiar because its running the same resolution x and shouldn't be easier on the GPU correct OSX side has no problems Doesn't seem hardware related DXDiag says my directx version is but my GPU can only handle Maybe this is significant Apple won't help me because I can't show a problem in OSX I'm pretty on my own for any bootcamp issues Anything else you need to know just let me know I'm willing to try just about anything Thanks so much if you've made it this far

First off I ll say I play lots of games so this bothers me just a little It all started with Starcraft keep in mind this is during random intervals I could play the game for mins to hour and the computer screen would go black and usually a crashes can't Random screen when games alt+tab) playing (black looping sound or just nothing for a little bit then background music or something The computer would completely lock up and the only remedy is hard reboot This is now happening with Call of Duty World at War Singularity Both First Person Shooters Starcraft is a Real Time Strategy Not sure if that helps but FPS s are intensive with the GPU and RTS s are CPU intensive So I don t know whats going on For me and my hypothesis is when a certain sound goes off the computer crashes but maybe it s just me because when ever it crashes there is always a sound to go with it I have a Qosmio X - Q laptop and have had it for about since probably Random crashes (black screen can't alt+tab) when playing games August making this years old I never mistreat it or anything and have used some caned air Some people think it needs a new thermal paste on the GPU and some think it s artifacting I m not sure what it is All I know it freezes when I play games randomly sometimes it won t freeze As far as temperature goes it s usually only gets up to C If there is anything else you guys need to go on let me know P S - This ONLY happens during playing games nbsp

A:Random crashes (black screen can't alt+tab) when playing games

Usually when we see these issues only happening when gaming it predominately points to a driver issue. Go to your laptop's website, find your exact model and update the latest video drivers avaliable.

Just played black ops 3 for a good 30minutes, then my screen went black, and few seconds later the screen posted "No Signal"
I have googled this and i have checked the event viewer, which shows alot of critical errors.
It leads to "Kernel Power ID 41"

Everything is stock currently, so no overclocking done yet.

I also was send to a thread on this forum, and some guy had the same problem, turned out it was a software issue, now i dont know if it is a software issue for me,

It could be anything really..

Hi folks I ve been having a huge number of problems with my computer over the past couple years I bought it in it s a Dell XPS Studio all still with stock parts including Intel Core i other goes Screen high sound loop, issues temps, black, gb ddr nvidia geforce gt dell motherboard My main problem I Screen goes black, sound loop, high temps, other issues can t do anything that uses Screen goes black, sound loop, high temps, other issues the gpu even very minimally for more than minutes before the screen goes black and the last moment of sound loops I used to assume this was just the gpu overheating from not having dusted the internals in some time I cleaned it out and the same problem occurs I checked my temps on speedfan and they are absolutely abnormally high As you can see it s not just my GPU Every temp is out of control I m not even sure what to make of Fan RPM Does that mean the fan is installed but not working I understand that quality can deteriorate over time but this was all stock from dell and I haven t touched a thing other than installed some older HDDs - i wouldn t expect everything to be so wacky And even sometimes when I clean it those secondary HDDs are no longer detected even if the connections are in place This is a huge nuisance and I don t know if it s a host of problems or if there is a single root cause Any suggestions edit i feel this should be in hardware oops nbsp

A:Screen goes black, sound loop, high temps, other issues

You can request to have the thread moved to Hardware by a moderator using the 'Report' button

I am not a big fan of speedfan personally, but your temps do look a bit on the high side assuming those readings were taken when the machine was idle? Give HWMonitor a try, take a screenshot of it just after you first turn the machine on without doing any tasks, then leave HWMonitor running and start a game up, run the game for a minute or so (hopefully without a crash) then exit and screenshot HWMonitor again. Post the two screenshots in a reply here.

What extra HDDs have you installed? Additional HDDs can affect air flow and impact temps.
Can you give us the Dell Service Tag number of the machine?
What operating system are you using?
Is the OS and all the drivers fully patched and up to date?

A:screen goes black computer locks up when playing video games

Happened once to me, my case it was the video driver that stopped working. Go to device manager and find out the information about your driver and then go to the website of the manufacturer and update.
Look for any yellow markers when inside the device manager
How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper

Hi everyone

I had the problem that my computer shuts down while playing games or just browsing the internet. At first I got a black screen, but was still able to hear sound (e.g. music player) for ~2-3 seconds. This happened every 1-60 minutes after booting... (If I run in secure mode, everything was fine) So I decided to set up a clean installation of Windows. BUUUT the problem occurs again. Not every 15 minutes, but it occurs.

I'm not quite sure if this is right, but I've got the feeling that this began again after installing all automatic updates. Ofc I have the recent versions of graphic card drivers etc.

Just like described in the BSOD forum I attach a zip with further informations including dump files etc.

I would be sooo happy if you could help me solving this problem.

Cheers!

This has been bothering me for a while. After a few minutes of playing any newer game, my monitor will go black and tell me there is no connection. The sound usually loops at that point and I can do nothing but hard reset.

I've been trying to find an answer online and thought my psu was the problem, so I bought a new one (now at 550 watts), but that hasn't helped. My computer is pretty old, (the processor is an AMD athlon 3500) with an updated graphics card, (BFG nVidia 9600 oc).

Any advice? Is it a temperature problem or just the result of an old processor? What other info can I provide that may aid in finding a solution?

Hi there.

My PC is currently crashing without a BSOD when playing games. The screen just goes black, but my computer stays on. I have to power it off manually with the power button. I've previously had issues with BSODs showing an error with atikmdag.sys , but they were very infrequent. This type of crash has been happening multiple times a day.

Thank you so much for your help!

A:Black screen from playing games, previous BSOD's from atikmdag.sys

Hello Duecez.

A stop 0x116 is a graphics related error. And for it, you need to follow the guide: STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Let us know the results.

So I ve encounterd this issue while im playing video games (mostly Tera), in the middle of the game the computer screen goes black (sometemies even other colors), but my computer is still running, although my Hard drive indicator isnt blinking.
I have a:
Intel core i5 3570k, Asus gtx 770, 8 gb of ram, 1TB HDD, 650W Psu,
I dont think its because of overheating, because when i look up the temperatures the max on my gpu is 75? on full load what is fine for the 770, and my cpu is on full load at about 54? max.
So could it be a software problem or my HDD is not working properly.
If anyone could reply i would be thankful.
Thank you!

Crashes happen anytime, result in a black or white screen, one time, it completed the loop and it had actually BSOD'd! I have the memory dump (hoping a forums wizard can come and save me!). Have tried disabling HDMI audio package drivers, overclocking and underclocking the video card. Does not appear to be memory related as one time, music that was being played on my computer, continued to play after the crash. Using windows 7 64bit RTM btw.

Hey,

Basically started last Friday, i installed crisis and played it for a bit and everything worked fine. I then installed black and white 2 and after 20mins of playing it the screen went blank and there was a buzzing noise coming from my speakers. I switched off the computer and uninstalled black and white 2 and crisis. I then began playing LOTRO and the problem still persisted! So I decided to do a disk defrag, there was no change. I then restored by PC to a a couple of days before I installed crisis and Black and white 2 but its still happening whenever I play LOTRO, but this time the blank screen is not accompanied by the buzzing noise from the speakers.
I really dont know what to do and this is becoming a bit frustrating. It only seems to happen when I'm playing games.

have you tried different player? i.e. vlc or media player classic.
it can also be a codec issue, have you tried other video types?

yes i have tried both PowerDVD Mk I and Mk II and both are filled with bugs, especially when dealing with certain codecs. although i have to admit the video effects are sometimes useful.

Sony Vaio laptop (DxDiag attached, hoping that gives necessary info on hardware and software)

Fairly new laptop, has been in for repairs TWICE due to bluescreens. The SSD and ram has been replaced.

This time the error occurs when watching videos/playing games (it does tend to happen at random, but when gaming it doesnt need more than 20-30 mins before crashing)

The error is the same every time: The screen goes black (but is still lit), while the speakers makes a constant buzzing sound that doesnt stop until I turn off the computer by holding the power button.

I have been without the computer for over 9 weeks for repairs, and this time I want to hear with you guys if there is anything that can be done to avoid that.

Thanks in advance. Please inform me what I need to do in order to help you guys help me!

A:Unknown crash (Screen goes black, speakers make buzzing sound)

DxDiag won't provide us anything on what we need to analyze this crash. You'll want to run a jcgriff report as instructed here.

I want to note that the reason why they replaced the SSD and RAM is because those are the only parts they're willing to replace. If this thing is new as you say, then my initial diagnosis is that we got a mobo or graphics issue (most likely mobo). Either case means replacing the whole laptop.

Send us the generated report, and we should be able to work from there.

This a problem that has persisted in my computer through three motherboards two processors a graphics card two Operating systems and a RAM overhaul The only items that have stayed consistent are the graphics and sound card at this point The Problem Typically while playing a game after - hours the screen will go black and the speakers will emit loud popping crackling This happens Crash? Black Sound. Low-level causing Hardware Screen+Repeating system without warning Hardware causing Low-level system Crash? Black Screen+Repeating Sound. Sometimes Rarely the computer will immediately reboot Usually it just locks up I used to think this was a graphics card issue but Today it happened while I was just doing some desktop publishing work while listening to iTunes I d had iTunes up for about hours playing music in the background Without warning the system crashed to black screen popping Because this happened when I was at my desktop and not in a game I think it is not related to graphics and the X-fi is probably the culprit I checked the Windows Hardware causing Low-level system Crash? Black Screen+Repeating Sound. event manager and Vista has no clue it s happening so the crash is happening at a pretty low level Any ideas Steps I ve taken so far Replaced Power Supply Disabled onboard motherboard sound Updated BIOS Flashed CMOS Updated Chipset drivers Uninstalled Reinstalled newest Sound card Drivers Uninstalled Reinstalled newest graphics card Drivers Purchased additional case fans The previous system which encountered the same problem was an Evga board running XP with different RAM At this point I ve run out of potential solutions I ve talked to a friend of mine and he says that if none of that helps it may be a low level issue either associated with heat or a bad X-fi card Any additional thoughts would be appreciated nbsp

A:Hardware causing Low-level system Crash? Black Screen+Repeating Sound.

The only thing that caught my attention in your post was - 'Sometimes (Rarely) the computer will immediately reboot' - I had a dead power supply once and like you i would be playing games and my computer would reboot, it would also reboot SOMETIMES when i wasnt playing games, just listening to some music and chatting to friends. I replaced the power supply and yeah it solved the problem, i never faced any black screens though. You havent mentioned anything in your post about changing the power supply. Could it be the power supply, anything to maybe suggest that ? The power just cuts even momentarily causing the computer to reboot or somewhat shut off - causing the black screen and the speakers outputting crackling ?

Hi. I've recently been trying to play Metal Gear Solid 5 but every time I boot it up my PC either crashes as soon as the splash screens are done or after a few minutes. It's been crashing while playing other games as well but it's been much rarer. It's not a BSOD crash and it doesn't produce any crash dumps so I'm leaning towards it being a problem with either the PSU, the motherboard or one of the graphics cards. Any help with finding the cause of this would be appreciated.

The PSU model is fd-psu-newt2-800, the graphics cards are both Nvidia GTX760s and the motherboard is a ASUS Sabertooth Z77

Hi I am currently running my system using a Leadtek NVIDIA Quadro XGL Graphics Card which had been working fine for games and CAD until recently when i tried to run a game The symptoms are very similar in every game i try to run HALO CS S HL DOOM FEAR A few mintues after opening a level it will begin to freeze playing Games Driver when Loop for seconds or more and then continue working for a few mintues and then freeze for another minute or so and then polygons and maps within the d world go absoloutley crazy charcters will suddenly start to glow stair cases Driver Loop when playing Games will grow infinitely and then shrink to the size of matchboxes If i look in a certain direction the screen will fill with strange d boxes My gun will suddenly become exactly the same colour and texture as a nearby cliff and the cliff will suddenly grow a scope and start shooting people This coupled with the freezing makes for a very confusing and unpleasant experience The computer will then freeze permanently before the blue screen of death appears it reads as follows quot A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer The problem seems to be caused by the following file nv disp If this is the first time you ve seen this Stop error screen restart your computer If this screen appears again follow these steps The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly Please check with your hardware vendor for any driver updates Technical Information STOP x EA x x c B xF BE CBC x nv disp Beginning dump of physical memory quot If anybody would like to help it would be much appreciated CAD and other programs still seem to work fine and i have installed the latest driver for my graphics card My Theory is that it may be attempting to run two video card drivers at the same time under the NVIDIA folder where the driver s are there is a folder called Win KXP and inside that folder there are two folders one is called and the other is called i think these may be the two different driver versions the computer is trying to run simultaneously I don t want to go and randomly delete or move any system folders right now without a garuntee that it won t affect the work i have stored on my pc Its a nice challenging problem for all you people who think you know it all to figure out Any theories or rough guesstimates would be helpful Though i feel like i ve tried everything nbsp

A:Voice loop crash, in games, after long pc uptime

It sounds clearly like a hardware malfunction. I think when the "memory management" error came up, it was graphics memory. Graphics cards have their own integrated memory which they use for processing. Please follow the instructions here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...ns-452654.html

EDIT: Also, your PSU may be underpowered for your system. We'll look into that later if we need to.

So I recently opened my CPU because it was lagging and I thought maybe a little clean up might do the trick. So I softly brushed the drivers inside the CPU to get some dust off. However, when I turned on my PC, it seems that whenever I watch videos or play games, a loud crackling sound comes out from my speakers. I don't know what is causing this.

I have tried disabling my drivers (sound and display) but to no avail. However, if I mute the volume on my sound driver, the sound disappears. Which lead me to the conclusion that it might be a conflict of sound and display.

Since the problem only occured when I opened my CPU and cleaned it, it might also be a wiring problem or something.

Can someone help me on this?

A:Crackling sound in speakers when video playing/playing games/anything with graphics

Have you tried a different set of speakers? Make sure the speakers are all the way plugged into the jack.

A:Sound Loop Crash (Please, please help!!!)

This sounds like it might actually be video-related. Although you are not experiencing BSODs, please follow the instructions here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...ns-452654.html

It will provide us with many useful logs to troubleshoot.

Folks, im getting an annoying crash when playing games such as Battlefield3 and such.

It happens randomly, not always.

I've done tests to each of my components to make sure they are not failing (memtest, furmark, cinebench etc) and everything seems fine.

My system specs are as follows:
Motherboard ASUS M5A78L-M LX
Ram 4gb DDR3 Kingston hyperx genesis
Cpu Amd FX4100
GPU Radeon HD6770
HDD WD 500 GB Caviar Blue
and a cheap 500w PSU

I attached the minidump file, any help will be greatly appreciated!
