I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have installed outlook with my Windows Office 2000 disk. I am also using Windows 2000 Pro. I am logged in as Admin (default admin accout) and trying to run/setup outlook. It will not let me start outlook and tells me I need to be logged in as admin or have my admin do this for me. However, I am the admin trying to do this. What do I need to do to get this to work?

Simple, Login as an admin but in the local machine, not in the domain. You must be part of the local administrators in the local machine. Do it , 100% guaranteed.

I have windows 2000 and Outlook 2000 on several systems. I have the Windows taskbar is set to Autohide. I also have Outlook 2000 set to have a preview pane.
The problem is while outlook is displaying a Read Receipt the taskbar will not display when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen. It works fine with any other message.
Has anyone experienced this problem or know what the solution may be?

I'm running Outlook 2000 with SP3 applied:
I'm having no luck importing an outlook PST, which I created as a new data file in Outlook 2003. I created it as a 97-2000 compatible file.

when I go through the import process, it imports nothing at all... No error message, just empty folders.

This happens when I import from the local machine OR the server.

Is it possible the file is corrupt? Is there a way of checking?

I've successfully imported the 2003 version into another PC running Outlook 2003 - No problems there.. Just when trying to import the 97-2000 compatible file in to Outlook 2000

Whenever I launch Outlook 2000 the Office 2000 installer also launches.

I installed Office 2000 on this machine several months ago, and Outlook has run without any odd behaviour.

It also happens any time I click on a new email.

Although I installed iTunes 2 days ago, today is the first time Outlook has behaved in this way.

I'm running Win XP with SP1, and I've scanned with AVG, Spybot and Ad-Aware, with nothing negative being reproted.

I would like to know if there was a way to forward messages based on content to a file outside of Outlook 2000, like Access 2000 in particular, maybe even Excel 2000. I know that a rule can be set up to forward messages to personal folders, but I would like to know if it can be done to an outside file. I didn't know if it had to do with messages being in pst format.

A:Forwarding message from Outlook 2000 to Access 2000

No. Not possible to my knowledge or without VBA.

I think it might be easier for you to set Access to import from the PST file at a given time each day. Of course, you'll have to have exited Outlook at that time or the PST file will report that it is in use.

Will someone please explain to me briefly what the difference is between all of these? Why would one want one over the other?

I guess that Windows 2000 is sort of like NT Workstation. If not, please tell me.

And what is the difference between Windows 2000 Server and 2000 Advanced Server?

A:{Advice Offered} - Windows 2000 Professional, 2000 Server, 2000 Anvanced Server--the difference?

Greetings

Win2K Professional is, indeed, just NT Workstation 5.0

The real difference between Win2K Server and Win2K Advanced Server is scalability. To quote a CNET article: "Three versions of the operating system will be available next week (it's an old article): Windows 2000 Professional, aimed at PCs and workstations; Windows 2000 Server, for file-and-print servers; and Windows 2000 Advanced Server, supporting clustering, which is a way of making several systems act as a single, more powerful computer.

To quote the FAQ from www.winmag.com:
Windows 2000 Professional is the workstation edition of Windows 2000. This is basically Windows NT Workstation 5.0, although Win2K Professional of course includes all of the new technologies for Win2K.

Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server is the server edition of Windows 2000, which is designed to serve small- to mid-sized businesses and workgroups. Server supports up to 4GB of physical RAM and up to 4 processors per computer. Advanced Server supports up to 8GB of RAM and 8 processors per computer.

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is designed for large businesses and computer clusters. Datacenter supports up to 32 processors per computer and up to 64GB of RAM, as well as built-in clustering and load-balancing features.

Is that what you wanted?

Cheers

I just recently installed exchange server and my outlook 2000 clients are having a problem. Email works fine any everything, however when the user is in a new message, they want to call users from their contacts list.

When they click on the "To..." button to bring up their contacts list, all it displays is the global address lists for exchange server, it doesn't have their personal contacts.

Normally to fix this you'd go to the folder list in outlook, right click and go to properties, outlook address book tab, and select "
show this folder as an email address book".

However when I go do this that option is grayed out. I can't select it.

I thought it was a rights thing, because my users are logged in as domain users, but my administrator account can't change it either.

A:Outlook 2000 and Exchange 2000

Before you try to show the Contacts folder as an address book, go to Tools/Services and add the "Outlook Address Book". When you right-click the contacts folder the checkbox should no longer be grayed out.

Hi, I am trying to import a mailing list that was originally in excel, it has over 2000 entries. I successfully imported the file into access. Now I am trying to import to Outlook. I went to file-import/export- I went through the wizard, even mapping destinations if that window popped up, then I click finish and it shows a status box, it takes a really long time, then all the wizard boxes and status boxes disappear, with no message confirming that the files were imported, and the contacts do not appear. Then sometimes it has the error message that outlook has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. I even made a two entry excel document and tried to import and it did the same thing. I have done the detect and repair option, also reinstalled office. WHAT DO I DO???? I need this mailing list in OUtlook bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please help!

I have an XP operating system. I decided to install Outlook 2000.

Whenever I try to send/recieve mail I get the following error:

Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close

Is this because I never removed Office XP Professional from the control panel and this casues a conflict?
Or does Outlook 2000 just doesn't work with Windows XP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,

Just got a new laptop and I am new to Windows Vista (Home Premium).

I am hoping to continue using MS Office 2000 (it works well for me and to save money) but I have been unable to import my MS Outlook history & contacts pst. files. When I try the File/Import & Export... menu choice it says: "Unable to find the WAB DLL." I thought I'd copy it direct into the appropriate folder but even with admin. rights I cannot access some folders.

I uninstalled the trial copies of MS Office 2007 and MS Works and tried repairing Office 2000 from disc. Rebooted. Still I get the same message.

Any ideas? Is this a Microsoft contrivance to force me to buy?

Thanks in advance for any help. This website is a great service.

Just installed OL 2000 on my new Windows 7 laptop and can't (1) send or receive messages (2) get OL Contacts to interact with OL e-mails.

I had this same problem a few years ago installing OL 2000 on a Windows Vista machine. I eventually solved it by switching from Internet Only mode to Corporate Workgroup mode. I have tried that this time but so far without success.

I had no problem using OL 2000 on Windows XP SP3. One of the things I tried with the Windows 7 machine was to run OL 2000 in XP compatibility mode, but it doesn't seem to have worked.

I need many OL special features so can't switch programs.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

A:Getting Outlook 2000 to function on Windows 7

Welcome DrJoanie to the windows 7 forum.

FWIW: the only old version of outlook that I have gotten to work on windows 7 is outlook 2003.

I would recommend that you purchase outlook 2010 and then import your email, contacts and such from your outlook 2000 .pst file. There are a few programs that you can purchase that will extract all the data from your old outlook files and put them in the outlook 2007 or 2010.

Best I can do at the moment.

I recently had to reinstall Windows 2000 after running into a error stop screen indicating an inability to load the hive (file)
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SYSTEM or its log or alternate.

The good news was that very little data was lost after the reinstall. It was just a matter of reconfiguring my OS from scratch and reinstalling programs. What I did lose during this process was all my contacts and email that resided in MS Outlook 2000.

Question is then: is there a place where I could still find this data on my system? I've been told that to look for .mbx or .wab files. Where do these exist? Which path?

Any help is appreciated.

I am planning to purchase a new computer that runs Windows 7. The e-mail program in my old computer is Outlook2000. My e-mail provider is Earthlink.

I need to import all of my contacts and e-mail files from the old computer into Windows Live Mail on the new computer (I think that this is the current e-mail program supported by Microsoft). I also need to be sure that my existing Earthlink e-mail address will be the one that people will contact me on my new computer.

Is all this possible and how difficult will it be to do it myself?

You say it doesn't load the Internet Email Addin.

What version of Office do you have?

Are you used to using higher versions of Outlook?

Has anyone encountered an issue where when you open up an email message, the Print option is greyed out? Even if you go to the File menu (in the messege window itself) the Print option is greyed out as well. The only way to print the email is to right-click on the message itself and select Print. I have tried un-installing Office 2000 entirely, running Office 2000 reg cleaner and re-installing again, but the problem persists. This is Office 2000 SP1. Please advise.

A:Outlook 2000 - Print option in message windows is greyed out

Hmmmm... don't truely know the answer, but here are some other things you can try:

1) apply O2K SP-2
2) uninstall/reinstall printer drivers
3) Run RegClean (MS Registry Utility)

I have a TOSHIBA A send recieve - but 2000 on 7 Outlook mail Opens won't Windows or laptop about a month old with Windows I didn t want to be bothered with the whole quot buy me after days quot bit so the promo MS Office was uninstalled and I installed Outlook 2000 on Windows 7 - Opens but won't send or recieve mail my perfectly fine legal MS Office that was purchased while in college I paid to Yahoo so I could use Outlook and d l my mail when I went to a wifi place and read offline at home later It worked about times Then it would send but wouldn t recieve mail Now every time I open Outlook it does the Outlook Startup Wizard thing It says another version of Outlook was installed previously and asks if I used a previous version to open mail because it can use the same configurations as that version I have chosen both yes and no it doesn t make a difference it always just goes to the next window The next window says Email Service Options and gives the choice of Internet Mail Corporate or Workgroup or No Internet Mail I have tried both of the first settings and it still doesn t matter It opens the inbox etc ok but then if I push Send Recieve the little delivery window pops up for maybe a second but immediatly disappears For a few times at first it would at least deliver my mail but it has never sent it Now it won t do either just has the window open for a second So I though my configuration might be bad I have put in the Yahoo settings and used default on the numbers ports and also the ones Yahoo said to use I do the SSL and authentication as directed I have put in my username and password everything I can think of Side Note that may be important I previously used to use CCleaner to clean up my files and never had any problems with things after running it But one day I discovered a tool from Windows that came on my computer called Disk Cleanup so I used that instead Seems like my trouble began after that Did it delete a registry or dll file or something My goals are A to get Outlook to quit asking to run the setup wizard EVERY time I open it and B to get it to actually send and recieve my email If anyone could help or if you need more info let me know Thank you so much nbsp

Im installing a brand new pc and I just downloaded all the latest fixes and patches for the OS and the Browser....except one, KB890923. Everytime I try to launch through Windows Update it says it cant do it. SO I attempted to download and run it manually and it states that the program is not a valid Win32 application....anybody else having this problem?

A:KB890923-Windows 2000-XP-cannot install on Windows 2000

I just checked my win2k sp4 system. It has that hot fix installed. I generally do installs and updates in this order; it gives the fewest problems / issues.

1 Install os
2 Update to sp4 unless your disk already has it
3 Install chipset / mb drivers
4 Update to DirectX9c
5 Install sound, nic, raid drivers as necessary
6 Install video driver
7 Update to IE6 sp1
8 Image the drive in case updates cause problems
9 Now run windows update and install all critical updates.

Now install apps and games

Hi All

Am I right in thinking that they are both pretty similar except that server has support for multiple processors and extra network related tools and facilities. The reason I ask is that if a piece of software works on Windows 2000 server, is it extremely likely that it will work on Windows 2000 professional too? As a bit of background information: I work for a small company which supplies temperature monitoring equipment which needs to be networked. I've been told that it has been tested on Windows 2000 server but not on Window 2000 professional.

Thanks

A:Windows 2000 professional and Windows 2000 server: same?

Yes, the OS are pretty much the same. The server edition supports more than 10 simultaneous connections (for file and print sharing) and supports network stuff as you said. But those differences could potentially break an application depending on what it does and how it interacts with the OS.

I am using word 2000 and printing to a HP laser printer. The problem is the the word document
is split into two sections becasue I want to print one section as Landscape and the other section
as Portrait. The first section is Landscape and the section below it is set for Portrait. The problem
is that when I print the document, the Landscape prints fine but the section set for portrait has
the font stretched and looks nothing like arial or courier or any other font. No matter what font
I change to for the portrait section it always prints like the letters are stretched. Have any ideas
on how I can make this print the way I want it too?

When working with a brand new spread sheet w/no links- Example: data is input for columns B-E, then data sum in column F.
When updating the next ROW, there is NO formula in column F, once the data is entered, the blank cell assumes the formula from the previous row.
WE LIKE this feature & want to know:
1. How does it do that?
2. How (& under what circumstances)can I turn this feature on in other columns?

A:{Moved from NT/2000 forum} - Excel 2000 formula assumption

Hi Nora,

When you turn on extended formats and formulas, Microsoft Excel automatically formats new data that you type at the end of a list to match the preceding rows and automatically copies formulas that repeat in every row. To be extended, formats and formulas must appear in at least three of the five list rows preceding the new row.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Edit tab.
Do one of the following:
To automatically format new items that you add to the end of a list to match the format of the rest of the list, select the Extend list formats and formulas check box.

To prevent automatic formatting, clear the check box.

Hope this helps.

Hi There

This is not a macro question. I have been at this for hours now with no success. I have a picture in MS word 2000. The picture is text with a box around the text. See attached MS Word 2000 file. I want to copy this picture into Excel 2000. But when I do a copy and paste, it does paste into Excel but just the box shows up and not the writing. Can someone out there copy it and paste it for me in Excel 2000 and send it to me?? I can then copy it from your Excel spread sheet into my Excel spread sheet.

Thanks for your help in this.

Can I upgrade Office 2000 to Office XP, while still running Windows 2000?

Office XP can run on Windows 2000. Even though the operating systems and office suites have the same naming convention, that doesn't mean that they have to match up (Windows 2000-Office 2000, Windows XP-Office XP).

Is this showing up as two Win2000 in Windows Explorer? When you ran install off the CDROM, did you say Keep Original Settings and Files? If so, that could be your problem.
Not 100% with this, but if you did the latter, then if you try and reinstall it again, it should come up with that option. Just say No and it should install it on top of the last two.

Failing that, is this an upgrade from Win98, or a full installation?

Hello everyone (And sorry for such a long thread title!)

One of the elderly gentleman where I work, has been given a Dell laptop by his Son that's running W7 64bit.

He has a copy of Office 2000 that he would like to install on this machine, and use the bundled Outlook from it as his default e-mail client. The only problem is, the current desktop PC he's using, is running Windows XP (unsure which version) and he's got Outlook Express as his e-mail viewing software on there at the moment.

Can the profile (sorry if that's the wrong term) from XP's Outlook Express be "ported" into the Outlook from Office 2000, whilst all of this is running on W7 64bit?

Many, many thanks in advance

A:Migrating XP's Outlook Express to Office 2000's Outlook on W7 64bit

Office 2000 is not supported on Windows 7, and is insecure and past it's lifetime support. That said, there may be workarounds to get it to work on 7, but that's probably more difficult then your original question. I'd think your friend would need a newer version, then revisit can it be done For instance:

Import messages into Windows Mail from Outlook Express

Import your messages or account from Outlook Express to Outlook - Outlook - Office.com

Trying to use Office 2000 would not be at all advisable.

So far my searching has turned up confusing and non definitive info. In a nutshell... is it possible to seamlessly transfer ALL data? I've been able to import messages and account info into Outlook 2007/Win7 but can find no way of kluging either rules (rwz) or address (wab) info.

Also, if I understand correctly Outlook 2007 doesn't internally store addresses and Windows 7 no longer retains an address book core app for Outlook to draw from? I'm hoping this doesn't mean Windows Live Mail requires activation?

Any info appreciated!

Hi,

I've gotten error messages that have varied between these two errors every time my computer boots up. It runs Auto repair automatically, and I've had a few instances where it has gone to a full scan in BIOS. Each time it scans I get one of these error messages, and when the computer didn't go into BIOS and continued into the screen where I could choose what to do as the operating system couldn't start, it claimed that there were no factory settings that I could return it to to fix the problem. I was simply wondering if this is a problem with my hard drive, and if it could be fixed.

Hey there peoples,

This guy I work with has a computer at his house with WindowsMe on c:, and he just put win2000 on d:...

Among other problems (he didn't check w2k's hcl for his monitor), when he tries to access his modem from w2k, it doesn't work...It's coming into COM3, but his w2k doesn't even see COM3 to get to the modem. But when he boots Me, it works fine...

So, is this just as simple as the modem not being supported by w2k, thus it won't recognize the port? Would that cause it? Or is there something else that he needs to do?

W2k seems to be good at detecting deviced during installation, so I'm at a loos as to why it can't see the port or the modem...

Any thoughts?

Thanks....

My computer will not start gets up to the dell logo then goes black with just the cursor. Will not start in safe mode.
I called Dell they told me you're on your own.
Is there a way to retrieve info from my hard drive or have I lost it all?
Bought the computer in April or May.

If the machine is under a year old why wouldn't Dell help? To get the data off you may have to remove the drive and slave it to a working system. Then you can copy the files off to wherever you want them.

1. Read the little dissertation on CW -vs- IMO at:
www.TheOfficeExperts.com/outlook.htm
I'm thinking you erroneously had a CW setup at home. Tools-Services is ONLY available in a CW setup. Otherwise, it's Tools-Accounts.

2. Understand that this statement is incorrect:

"and could not be separated" about the Contacts and PSTs.
You can easily select a Contacts folder and Export JUST THAT as a PST.

3. Outlook XP sucks so much that I took it off and went back to 2000. That's just an FYI, and not necessarily a suggestion.

See if this link helps. If not, come back.

I hope someone can solve this problem.

For the last 2 days, CPU usage has been app 100% all the time. Looking at the processes in task manager, I find that Outlook is using 95-99% of CPU. Outlook is running all the time as it always has been. Can someone suggest a way to solve this problem without having to uninstall ans reinstall Outlook, which would involve having to reset my personal customizations. Also I am curious what could have suddenly happened yesterday that caused this problem. I upgraded windows media player, but that cannot have affected outlook?

My system is:
OS, windows-xp home(SP2); CPU, AMD athlon, 998 MHz; RAM, 384 MB, computer, Gateway Select.

Thanks,

The "auto-complete" feature you are referring to in Outlook is based on your address book or contact list as well as cached addresses from emails you have sent. There are some articles about the cache here:

I installed firefox on Tuesday and on Tuesday I am suddenly not able to send email from Outlook. (seemed a bit coincidental but I didn't think Firefox was to blame for this). I'm not sure which forum in which to ask this question so please advise -

My emails 'look' like they were sent - nothing in the outbox, shows up in the sent file with date and time sent. I called ISP and I can send webmail - not a problem at the ISP end it seems.

I ran ewido, spybot, ad-aware and my-etrust. The computer is pretty clean now but still not sending anything.....

Not sure where to go now. Does anyone have suggestions or should I be in another forum?

Thanks!

For some reason I thought you were using Outlook 2000. If so Read on. If not hopefully someone else will answer for Outlook Express. (Edited 9:00PM)

In Outlook click on File. Import and Export, Export to a file and select Personal Folder File .pst
I select Personal Folders And put a check in the box - Include Subfolders.. That way I save everything, Inbox, Sent items etc.

Make sure you select a drive or media that is not going to be formated ! - The default save folder is within the outlook folder.
When you restore do the same as above except select Import from Another Program or File - then select Personal Folder File and point it to where you saved the pst file.

1. Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools-->Internet Options, Programs tab, and tell it which program you're using for email.

2. Save the scanner output to a file and email it as an attachment.

3. Ask your ATT guys how to set up your email account, or ask in the email/internet forum here at Tech Guy.

I'm not an Outlook power user or MVP or anything like that. I just wanted to welcome you and point you in a general direction. I think for this you're going to want to create a new profile. Search Outlook's help for about user profiles and information services and create new profile for more information on that.

Hopefully an Outlook MVP or power user will bump this thread with more info.

As you mention email to your cow-orkers being OK, it suggests you are on a Local Area Network. More info on this would be needed to give helpful advice.

There are such things as Network firewalls and DNS server settings to consider, as well as other security matters. Have you raised this matter with the Admin for your Network?

Im running Win 2k Pro and using Outlook 2000 SR-1. I have two issues which I think are directly related. I had attempted to archive my .pst file. When I do the archive function everything will archive except the email folder.

I receive the following error msg. "error while archiving folder "inbox" in store "personal folders".

The second issue that is related to this is I have several emails in my inbox that are highlighted in red. Some but not all can't be deleted. I get the following error "the messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook". This does not work either.

I ran the inbox repair utility and this still did not solve the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated on how I can delete the messages. I think If I solve that problem then I should be able to archive.

I have Outlook 2000 running on an XP Pro OS. This week Outlook began behaving badly. It will open fine, then about 5 minutes later will spike the CPU usage to 100%, stay there and then get the error message: "Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to shut down". I get the opportunity to send the error message to Microsoft, and Outlook shuts down. I have ran spybot, adaware, virus updates, downloaded and installed all service packs for Office 2000 and Win XP up to SP 3, etc.

I haven't attempted to uninstall and reinstall Office 2000 or Outlook (by itself) because this particular machine is sharing the Calendar with the rest of the office. We use it to list who's out of the office and other events that people need to know companywide. This machine has been running the shared calendar since January 14th, 2005. This machine starting hogging the CPU on February 11th.

Ideas, thoughts???????????

Thanks,

A:Outlook 2000 using 100% CPU..

There seems to be quite a few reasons for OL to hog the CPU. I am having the same problem, under different conditions.

I did see some bits about the calendar causing it from here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810504

There are some others too, but most seem quite old and like this one, was claimed to have been fixed by SP3. However you may have installed (re-installed) something recently that voided the fixed. You could try redoing SP3.

Also, do you have AntiVirus installed. I suspect that mine is kicking-in and doing a scan of the whole .pst file before releasing the CPU. No evidence mind you, but does seem to happen when creating a new .pst from imports of a damaged one. if this sound similar then the best thing might be just to let it finish. I found that if you stop it, then it just happens again later on.

Anyone got anything similar?

One other thing, I'm not sure how you are publishing the calendar be it web or other, but you might want to check out the sunbird project, if you really get fed up with MS.

I have been trying to find a way to do this for months!! My husband and I share a computer. We have windows xp home edition. We each have our own email but both are through the same place (so his is [email protected] and mine is [email protected] for example). We want to be able to each log on to the computer into our own windows profile and then from within that, open outlook 2000 and access our own mail ONLY. Does this make sense? I want to be able to log in to windows and open outlook and only see my mail in the inbox and same for him. Is this possible? From what I have read online it isn't but I'm hoping someone out there knows otherwise!!

Thanks very much,
Sheri

I assume that it is called Blind Carbon Copy because it can't be viewed. Actually that would in some ways negate the purpose of BCC.

I once sent an Email and BCC'd some folks and then wondered if I sent it to everyone and went back to check but never found that info.

Having said that, where there's a will......

A:outlook 2000

Outlook stores that information in your .pst file.
You can find that in C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Back up the .pst files, and after reinstalling you can point Outlook to use that .pst file and still have your saved emails, contacts, etc.
Or, if you just want the contacts, open Outlook, click file/export and follow the wizard to export your contacts. Save that file, and after reinstalling Outlook, click file/ import and bring your contacts back in.
