Outlook 2002 Email Account Issue

Q: Outlook 2002 Email Account Issue

I need to add an email account to Outlook 2002 for a user. When I try to do so I'm told I cannot do so from within Outlook and I must create the new account by accessing the "Mail" icon in control panel. The problem is there is no mail icon in the control panel. I'm not certain if this is a result of a security policy or if there's something else I'm missing. The OS is Win2K SP3, fully patched and up to date. I tried uninstalling Outlook and then reinstalling under the users profile but the issue persists. I would imagine there must be some way I can delete the current Outlook profile via the registry. If anyone can shed some light on how I might resolve this issue I'd be greatful. Thx.

Preferred Solution: Outlook 2002 Email Account Issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can launch the executable file from Explorer. I can't remember it's exact name, but it's something akin to MLCFG.EXE. Do a search and see if you can find it....

Good luck

I am having an issue when trying to receive email in outlook 2002. I only get the email when I am in the calender view. If I am in my inbox it will not come through until I go to the calender and then it magically pops up. I have tried everything I can think of. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi rpi

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you tried the Detect and Repair option in the Help menu?

Have you tried creating a new Profile?
With Outlook closed:
Control Panel > Main Icon > Show Profiles > Add

Set up a new Personal Folder (.pst) with your email account and restart Outlook with the new Profile to see if you can duplicate the problem.

If the problem goes away, open the original .pst file into the new Profile.
File > Open > Outlook Data File
Browse to the .pst file, usually in the C:\Windows directory.

See if the problem returns, if it does, copy all the folders from the original Personal Folders (.pst) into the new Personal Folders (.pst), then Right click on the original Personal Folders and select Close to remove it from the new Profile.

Let us know what happens.

I have had to reinstall pc due to it going at a crawl!!

After installing Outlook 2002, I can not get Outlook to auto fill the email address field when I start to type an email address in it.

The address book is there and in tacked after copying the outlook.pst file back to its original location after install.

How do I get Outlook to autofill?

Also when I click the 'TO' button in the new email window, it says that there is no address book!
but when I click the address book icon in the main Outlook window there are email address there?!

Any ideas how I can get this to work correctly again.

A:reinstalled pc, now create email in Outlook 2002 does not auto fill email address like before

When you did the re-install, did you erase/format the hard drive before the re-install? If you did and did not save the Outlook auto fill file, then the all the auto fills you had are gone. Did you import the pst file into outlook?

I have two email accounts set up in Outlook on my computer at home. My account works fine but my wife's doesn't. I have sent her several emails from work but they either show up in my inbox or don't show up at all. However, if I send her something from the computer at home whether from my Outlook account or from my hotmail account she receives those OK.

When I go into "Email Accounts" and choose her account and run the test, it says the account is working correctly. Does anyone know what might be wrong with her account?

I have 3 accounts set up in Outlook 2002, let's call them A, B and C. Account A is the default and uses my current ISP's settings. I can send and receive via this account. Accounts B and C were set up under old ISP's and I can receive emails through these accounts, but cannot send via them. Under the "Send/Receive Group" option in Outlook, account A is set to send and receive, but B and C are set only to receive email. When I click on the "Send/Receive" button in Outlook, account A performs a send/receive, accounts B and C perform a receive, but then account C tries to perform a send, which fails as I no longer subscribe to the ISP associated with account C. How do I stop account C from attempting a send?

A:Outlook 2002 sends from wrong account

Hi ms340

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

In Outlook 2002:
Tools > Send/Receive > Send/Receive Settings > Define Send/Receive Groups > Edit

Select Account C in the left hand side of the window.
Uncheck: Send Mail Items
Click: OK, Close to save and close.

Try a Send/Receive to see if it performs how you want it.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

But when Outlook is launched the standard pop up window still continually appearing showing the name of the deleted account and the ?Please type user name and password? prompt. I have Outlook 2002. I want to oversee two email accounts.
However, I want the Inboxes (emails) of these accounts separated.
Each time and every way I try to setup these two accounts, the associated
emails get placed interleaved in the same Inbox.
Some other email softwares allow the separation of the multiple accounts in the left-hand column, each with its own Inbox, Sent, Folders, etc.
Is this too much to ask of Outlook 2002, or am I doing something wrong - or failing to do
something else in the account setup?
Anyone else experience this problem?

I did a clean install of Windows XP Pro and then installed Office XP Pro as well. When I configured email in Outlook 2002, it fails when I try to send a test message. Says the server was found, but does not respond. IPS is Direcway satillite system. Had used Outlook 2000 previous to new install, and worked great. Also set up email in Outlook Express on this machine using the same settings (username, password, incoming and outgoing servers) and it works fine. A:Outlook 2002 won't open after email installation

Outlook 2002 is not compatible with Windows 7.
It needs Outlook 2003 or later, but preferrably Outlook 2007 or later.
You can still use your existing PST files with newer Outlook versions.

Hi, everyone.
I need to do a clean reinstall of my OS.

Anyway, before I FDISK everything out of existence, I need to back up all my crucial information, which mainly ends up being our email folders, email rules, and our half dozen or so email account configurations.

Can anyone help me with simple step-by-step instructions for backing up email folders, rules, and account info (SMTP server info, passwords, etc.) for Outlook 2002 (not Outlook express - everything online seems only to pertain to Outlook Express) on Windows XP?

In the past, I have tried just copying my .pst file to a cdrom, but that didn't backup our rules wizard rules or our email account configurations.

If I am leaving out any critical info, please let me know. Your help is appreciated!

I use Outlook 2003 from Office XP Suite (OUTLOOK, NOT OUTLOOK EXPRESS.)

I recently reinstalled Windows XP...long, long story...In a nutshell, I had XP home, tried to do a repair install, didn't work, wound up having to install XP Pro instead. This, of course, wiped out my applications, but data files were preserved. However, I seem to have lost al my email messages...I have most backed up, but not the most recent; over the last few months, from April to the present.

Is it possible that those messages are still somewhere on the machine, hiding? How can I search for them?

The problem is, the email won't work. I get a "The operation failed" when I click Send and Receive. I can't just send an email either. I have a POP account through yahoo that worked fine in 2003. When I set up everything in the email, I run the little test thing that's in there and it sends and email to the server just fine. If I open Outlook Express, I can get it fine. I tried creating another profile and nothing. help!

How do you edit an email address that you already have stored in your personal address book in Outlook 2002 (Office XP)? Seems a little different than previous versions. I've just started using Outlook 2002 and I'm runnning into two things that are bugging me...

1. I can't find a way to set it up so that my email is automatically retrieved like I could in Outlook 98. Have they removed this feature? I used to have OL98 set up to get email every 5 minutes so that if someone was trying to get in touch with me I wouldn't have to think about doing it manually.

2. Even though I've got one accounts set up as "Save this password...", it either doesn't get saved as it should or it has the wrong password in it.

Any ideas or suggestions?

When I try to add an email manually it will not take it although it puts it in the contact database. Dear all,

I sent a meeting request to 6 members of my team via MS Outlook 2002.

I received an out-of-office reply from someone who i hadn't even mailed to!

A colleague advised me that this is because someone i've invited has delegates set up with write access to their calendar.

The question is, how do we stop these invites being received by the 3rd party (i.e. the delegate) as they don't need to see these, but want to retain write-access?

I recently got a new PC from dell that came loaded with Vista Home Basic. I have a previous version of Office XP that I loaded on and everything works fine except Outlook. When I set up my email accounts (I have done a million times before) I type in all of my user information and email address and password as well as the servers. I also check to have my password saved. Once completed, everything works perfect.

The issue occurs when I shut down outlook and re-open it. When a send/receive takes place, I get an annoying Network Password pop-up that shows me the server name as well as my user ID and a blank password. Ill enter the password and it will fail my send receive. When I go into my account settings in outlook, it doesn't show my password that I saved in the initial setup as saved.

Without knowing more about your mail server name and such.
Have you tried to Ping your mail server? like from the run cmd prompt ping
I ping to verify that the server is on-line and responding.

You could double check all the options in outlook setup email accounts to make sure that
you have spelled everything correctly, that sometimes is the problem where mispelling will
mess you up.

also the more settings options will have to be looked at to make sure that the boxes are checked correctly.

These things can get tricky if you misspell, many mail servers want your complete email address for the logon userid..

Close Outlook out completely and navigate to: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook (Where %username% is your username on that computer)

Delete the .pst file that is in that folder. Next time you open outlook it will have you create another profile with your email account.

Im guessing that your outlook profile is corrupt. If it is this should help resolve the issue you have.

I inadvertently deleted my email account from outlook, and now I am unable to re-add it. I actually have both outlook 2010 and 2016 installed, but up until I deleted my email I was able to use both. Now I can't use either of them under my main email address.
I have a pop3 account with stml, from comcast. I have tried numerous times to re-add it, both in the regular way and manually to no avail. I get the error message that my requested process failed. My account is still in the pst. data section, as well as on my computer.

A:Unable to re-add my email account to outlook

Only one version of Outlook will work on your computer. This always opts for the latest version, so you need to uninstall Outlook 2010 & only use Outlook 2016.

Your .pst files should work, but you may need to point Outlook 2016 where to find those files & this can be done through Files in Outlook & then through Account settings.

Unless you have a specific need to have 2 versions of Office on your computer, you might consider uninstalling office 2010 & only using Office 2016. Only having one version works best & has less problems.

I have multiple email accounts download into my Inbox folder; each email account has its own unique name under Account Settings. When I try to "Sort by Email Account," the groupings are correct (i.e. each group represents one account); however, the grouping title is says the same name for all of them.

Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it?

A:Outlook 2003 - Sort by Email Account

Hi carlyman

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

This sounds interesting.

Are the e-mail accounts subaccounts of one ISP or each a different domain as in:
1) a Gmail account
2) your own ISP account
3) and maybe another free account like ?

You mention each account has its own unique name under Account Settings. Does this mean the accounts do not have their own unique name listed under the E-mail Account Header column?

Hi all. I just installed Outlook 2010 and created 3 email accounts, 2 from Hotmail and the other from my ISP (cablevision). It seems that my folders from Hotmail came over but not those from my ISP. Should they have? Also, how do I import my contact into Outlook? I certainly don't want to re-enter them again. Thanks. Alan

I have two emails set up in outlook 2010.

I want to make a rule that any email sent from email B gets put into email B's sent folder. believe it or not this is not how it is set up by default.

In creating the rule these are the steps that leave me at a dead end:

Home Tab
manage rules & alerts
new rule...
Start from a blank rule: Apply rule on messages I send
step one: check off 'through the specified account'
step two: click blue highlighted word 'specified' to bring up options
Account: A is the only option
Any help is appreciated.

A:Creating an Outlook Rule for second email account

Assuming they are pop3 accounts, I'm 99% sure you'll only have the option to use one sent items folder. You can create a sub-folder within "Sent Items" for "Account B" and save a copy there.
If you can use IMAP instead, I'm pretty sure you can specify a separate folder without it also being duplicated.

I have several email addresses (accounts) and have always been able to change the name of the account whenever I want (via account properties) - not the display name for the "from" line, but what I name the account. But now, if I try to change it, it won't keep the changes and reverts back to the name it was before. I've only recently gone to WinXP SP2, and am wondering if it's something to do with SP2? Would anyone know how I can fix this please?TIA(PS - I'm fairly experienced in OE ).

I've seen some posts with similar issues here; however none of them seem to address my problem exactly.

Here is what happens.

When I change my default EM account under 'Tools, E-mail accounts' it accepts the changes. However, in reality it keeps the old default and always reverts back. The only way to set a new default EM account is to delete the old one.

However, as soon as I add the deleted account once again; immediately Outlook reverts back once again.
Anything to be done? Or do I have to delete the profile and start from scratch?

Thanks for your help !

I'm using Outlook 2003 and Windows xp professional. Ever since I was required to install Outlook Connector to connect Outlook with my hotmail account, I've had connecting issues. Most of the time I get them worked out, but this time I can't. I've tried reinstalling Outlook Connector and removing and then adding again my email account to Outlook. Depending on what verison(s) of Outlook you're using, and what e-mail server you're trying to connect to, you may only need to have the correct userid and password and it might be easier just to create the account fresh.

As you got the error back from the server, there is nothing wrong with the client or Outlook. It is probably some setting on the server side, blocking this specific computer, user or recipient.

When I would open the aol account there would be no update and in the bottom right of the Outlook screen, there was an indication that I wasn't connected. This would disappear as soon as I I opened the hotmail account, which was fully functional. My aol account in AOL works fine. The only problem is trying to use it in Outlook. My OS is Windows 7. I already tried deleting the aol account and then adding it as a new account, which goes through without a glitch. However, then the aol account does not appear as an option under the Mail heading in Outlook. If I go to Tools/Options/Mail Setup/Email Accounts in Outlook, the aol account appears there.

A:Unable to delete an email account

When you close your Microsoft account, you delete your account information, including your ID and password, your registered information, and your contacts. After you delete an account, you can't use that Microsoft account anymore to sign in to Microsoft products and services.
To close your account
Go to the Microsoft account overview webpage, and then sign in with your Microsoft account. Click Close account. Verify that the correct Microsoft account appears, type your password, and then click Next.Click deactivate your Hotmail account.Click Close account.
Be sure you are the admin.

To close only your or Hotmail account

Your or Hotmail account will become inactive if you don't sign in for more than 270 days or within the first 10 days after signing up for your account. After an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders, and contacts are deleted, and incoming messages are sent back to the sender as undeliverable. If you want to close your account right away:

Visit the close account webpage. Follow the instructions, and then click Close account to close your account.

I was curious if anybody knew this. I could not find it anywhere and had never heard of it. Is there a way to temporarily disable an email account? Like a pause button. So if I 'pause' a specific account (I have approx. 6 email accounts in my Outlook, mostly POP3 & Exchange), when I hit Send/Receive it will not be included, but if I 'unpause' it shall be included. Is there a feature like this?

If this is possible I'd like to implement this in a family members of mine computer. So it must be 'stupid proof' if it is.

Hello Mario,

Welcome to SevenForums.

Lets start with a few questions to eliminate the obvious. I assume you setup the signatures seperately for each account using this panel?

I found some additional information about signatures here: (browse down towards the bootom of the page)

One suggestion I read, was that the signature it picks to use is related to the folder that you currently have highlighted. I'm not entirely sure how that works, perhaps you could experiment with that?

Let us know how you get on.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

During the Office 2010 installation you have the option to choose whether to have everything installed to your computer, whether to install just some of the options, whether to install on first use or not install a particular option such as Outlook.

Can you remember which options you chose?

You can always reinsert your Office DVD and choose the repair option or uninstall it, and then re-install choosing all the options.

For example, if I had my personal account and a customer services account, when I go to send an email from my personal account, every email address who has ever communicated with the customer services account shows which is quite risky.

Thanks, Louise

Have you looked in the help section of outlook. The only thing i can suggest at the moment, is click the contacts in outlook, and then the little arrow next my contacts, there you will find yor email accounts with suggested contacts and contacts, see what happens when you try that.

How can I block user from adding email account such as hotmail, gmail or yahoo on MS Outlook?

A:How can I block user from adding email account on MS Outlook 2007?

vlanti, Are these users admins or limited uses? If they are limited, most likely they can not add email accounts.

But of course what good is outlook if you can't setup email?

Hi guys,

Sorry if this has been answered before, I did have a search.

I've just upgraded to Windows 7 and have installed Office 2010 which I also had on Vista, in Vista however my email ***** was part of personal folders, but now they are separate, I'd like not to see a separate menu for ***** but instead have all my emails under the Personal Folders menu, any ideas?

A:Outlook 2010 - How do you merge personal folders to an email account?

Funny thing, but when you choose a default account outlook is supposed to use that one as the default send account. So you compose a new mail and it should use that account as the from address. But it doesn't always work. Yes, i know u can CHOOSE any account by clicking on the "from" button and picking one from the drop down menu. But i don't want to have to keep doing that. I finally got it to work with a reg hack i found when googling the issue. Now when i compose new mail it uses account #1.

However, if someone sends me a email to my account #2, when i reply it uses account #2 to send from. Is there any way i can make outlook use account #1 for all email i send whether they are new emails or replies no matter what account hey were sent to?

did you figure this out yet?

I have recently changed my ISP to BT from Eclipse. Previously Outlook 2010 was configured to allow emails to be downloaded from the Eclipse servers and to enable me to send emails using Outlook 2010 using my Eclipse email address. I also have Outlook configured using IMAP to enable me to download emails from Gmail. I can no longer send emails using my eclipse email account.

Can someone help me to reconfigure Outlook so that I can send and receive emails using the Gmail servers from Outlook 2010 as my primary email source.

I wish to carry on using Outlook 2010 as I have many saved email folders in the account.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

A:How do I change my email account to Gmail from Eclipse in Outlook 2010

In "accounts" you simply need to change the default account for sending to the gmail account. Sorry if that's a bit vague but I haven't used outlook for ages (and don't have it).

A:How to change email account settings in outlook from IMAP to POP3?

Use Office Outlook on your desktop as your email app instead of windows 10 (formerly Hotmail) and select Office's Outlook as your default. The win 10 Mail app is for webmail and home user use. You might need it for your Microsoft webmail Account but use Office Outlook as your mail email program for POP mail. Office Outlook and are unrelated in spite of the recycled name.

WinXP PC running Office XP SP3. Sitting behind an Exchange 2003 Server and an Win 2000 SBS/ISA server.

Outlook 2002 issue - when recieving forwarded emails with file attachments of any type (in particular from <username>, the forwarded email is recieved in <user> Exchange inbox with the attachment removed and the message body of the forwarded email ATTACHED to the email as the only attachment. (ie the original file attachment seems to get "dropped")

Other users on the same network using same version of office XP Pro that are CC'd the same email recieve both the forwarded message text and the original email attachment. They can double click on the attachment and see the forwarded message, then double click again to get to the original attachment.

Any ideas? running out of them...

I am trying to import my email accounts & settings to the way they were before I did a custom install of Windows 7. For the life of me, I can't figure this out. I tried to follow tutorials and nothing seems to work.

My situation is different also because I have 8 POP email accounts. Do I have to enter the email account information back in or can moving the .pst files do this?

Did you use Outlook 2003's built-in feature to Export before? Or, did you just copy the .pst file to a safe place while reinstalling Windows?

HEllo out there ,

I am experiencing issues with my Outlook accounts I have two attached a default one for my Microsoft account and a secondary one for my wife.

On my new pc with win 10 I cannot send , forward emails the message I get back is they have been placed in the drafts folder then that's it. I cannot do anything with them.

Interestingly I have the same win 10 on my old computer and they work fine I suspect that my new one has updated and caused the issue.

The only difference I can see is I have Office 2007 on the old pc and Use Libre office on the new one would Libre cause an issue with outlook ?

I have run sfc/scannow with no success.

Any help would be appreciated.
