I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are each of the replies seperated by the phrase "-----Original Message-----" or something similar? If so you just need to set a variable equal to the message body and then use the left or mid function in VBA to seperate the last response.

Can you post a sample email?

Is there a way to copy email account settings?

I want to set up outlook to be able to send mail from the same account for several people by copying a file or a GP on server 2003.

A:Copy outlook email account settings

I don't have Outlook configured on this machine, but I seem to recall that there is a way to export account settings and importing them again on Outlook on another machine.

Depending on what verison(s) of Outlook you're using, and what e-mail server you're trying to connect to, you may only need to have the correct userid and password and it might be easier just to create the account fresh.

I have some users on Outlook 2003.
Here is the situation: When he opens outlook it automatically opens with the Outlook Today window. That is fine. But after he moves around and goes to the Inbox and then clicks on the Tasks. When he clicks on mail again he wants to go back to the Outlook today window.
He says he has done this on his home Outlook but can't remember how he did it.
Is there a way to do this.
I have played around but could not find a setting.
Any help would be great.

I'm using Outlook 2003 SP2 in a standalone configuration with Win XP Professional SP2.

When I click on the Inbox item on the Outlook Today screen (not referring here to the file list at the left of the screen) I get the following message:

"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

I backed up my .pst (and archive) files, uninstalled Outlook, re-started Windows, and re-installed Outlook. The problem persisted.

I can click on Inbox in the file list on the left of the Outlook screen - works fine. The problem is more of an annoyance than a major problem, but I'm uneasy that something's not working proprerly - Outlook's too important to me for odd, unexplained things to be happening!

so it keeps asking you for your password? check your user name and make sure its correct. I had this happen and it only put my user name, not my email address. so maybe you need to enter your email addy, and the password to that email addy, then click "save this password" check box.

hi, I have set two email accounts in Outlook 2003, and configured them (i made rules) so that there are two email account folders, and the email for account A goes into the INBOX under A and B goes into B. However, I have not been able to get them to do the same for the other folders (like OUTBOX, DRAFTS, SENT ITEMS, etc). Is there any way to do that?

While trying to fix an issue with selecting text, I got a .cab error that has now been fixed.

However, now when I open Outlook, it is asking to establish a new email account, as if I am a first time user. i can't access the existing email account, and all of the emails, folders etc. An archive.pst file still exists and by the size appears to contain all emails, folders etc.

Does anyone know how I can locate and reinstate the existing email account to access the existing emails etc.?

If this is not possible, can a new account be established and the existing emails, folders etc. in the archive .pst file imported?

Thanks,

Hotchi

I've seen some posts with similar issues here; however none of them seem to address my problem exactly.

Here is what happens.

When I change my default EM account under 'Tools, E-mail accounts' it accepts the changes. However, in reality it keeps the old default and always reverts back. The only way to set a new default EM account is to delete the old one.

However, as soon as I add the deleted account once again; immediately Outlook reverts back once again.
Anything to be done? Or do I have to delete the profile and start from scratch?

Thanks for your help !

I have multiple email accounts download into my Inbox folder; each email account has its own unique name under Account Settings. When I try to "Sort by Email Account," the groupings are correct (i.e. each group represents one account); however, the grouping title is incorrect...it says the same name for all of them.

Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks,

A:Outlook 2003 - Sort by Email Account

Hi carlyman

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

This sounds interesting.

Are the e-mail accounts subaccounts of one ISP or each a different domain as in:
1) a Gmail account
2) your own ISP account
3) and maybe another free account like my.inbox.com ?

You mention each account has its own unique name under Account Settings. Does this mean the accounts do not have their own unique name listed under the E-mail Account Header column?

In Oulook 2003, I have multiple mail accounts, but sometimes I want to "freeze" a certain account and put it on hold. I don't want to delete it, just to make sure that Outlook does not check that account now (because all my mailing lists go to that account and I don't want to have to download 1B messages after vacation, only what's important to me at that time). Is that possible? how?

I'm using Outlook 2003 and Windows xp professional. Ever since I was required to install Outlook Connector to connect Outlook with my hotmail account, I've had connecting issues. Most of the time I get them worked out, but this time I can't. I've tried reinstalling Outlook Connector and removing and then adding again my email account to Outlook. When I try to connect, there is a red X in the lower right window of Outlook and it says
Mail: error
Calendar: error
Contact: connected

The thing is, when I created a new hotmail account (and a gmail account for that matter) I was able to easily connect both of them to Outlook without problem- it is only this original email account that will not connect. Please help if you can!

That is a different situation restoring a PST that was backed up from a Chinese version of Windows XP. The characters although not Chinese could be remnants from the previous OS language or there could possibly be some corruption in the PST.

Maybe try running ScanPST to see if it will fix your PST file. I forget the location in XP/ Office 2003 but, you may find it if you search for scanpst.exe. There are also 3rd party recovery tools out there that may help.

When I delete an email in Outlook 2003, it doesn't move the deleted items to the recycle bin (deleted items folder). It will give me the prompt, "Are you sure you want to permanently delete the selected items?" If i click 'yes,' the email will not be moved to the deleted items folder where I could recover it, it is just totally gone. Basically when I delete an email from the Inbox, it skips the 'Deleted Items' folder all together. How do I get deleted emails to show up in the 'Deleted Items' folder first, before they are permanently deleted.

I'm aware of the Tools>Options>Other Tab "Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting" check box, and it is unchecked, besides my problem is not upon exiting Outlook.

Hi route66

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you tried creating a new Personal Folder and seeing if the same behavior exists in the new Personal Folder as well?

If it does, try creating a new Profile.
If it doesn't, then you can make the new Personal Folders the default Personal Folders.
You can then either copy the folders from the old Personal Folders into the new Personal Folders or keep two Personal Folders open in Outlook 2003.

You can have several Personal Folders open in Outlook 2003.
_________________________________________________________

Create a new Personal Folder (.pst) file and make it the default delivery location.

File > New > Outlook Data File
Name the new .pst file.
It should open in Outlook 2003.

Copy a message over to the Inbox of the new Personal Folders and see if the deletion process works properly in the new Personal Folders.
**To make the new Personal Folders the default delivery location:

Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
In the drop down field for: Deliver new e-mail to the following location:
Select the new Personal Folders (.pst) file.

Close and restart Outlook 2003 for the changes to go into effect.
_________________________________________________________

With Outlook 2003 closed, create a new Profile,
Control Panel > Mail Icon
Change the selection to: Prompt for a Profile to be used

Show Profiles > Add
Recreate your e-mail account.

Start Outlook 2003 and select the new Profile.
Send yourself a Test message and see if it will delete properly.
Let us know what happens.

Don't use Outlook as much as I used to so I don't know when this actually started.

When I try create a new email...Outlooks looks for the Contacts 'folder'...but I get an error saying "The address list could not be displayed..."

I then go to 'address book' and see that there are two entries for Contacts...the fist choice gives the above error (capture.jpg). When I click the second (bottom) Contacts...then everything pops up normally ?

How do I get rid of/delete the 1st Contacts listed in (doublecontacts.jpg) attached.

Thanks....TiminAz

When trying to open Outlook 2003 for a particular employee, we get:
The path specified for the file C:\Documents and Settings\gardijanb\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ostWe have changed how we identified users, cleaned all the old userid's out where this .ost file existed. I need the .ost file available to disable offline files. I tried copying someone else .ost file but it kicked it out not being the same userid. Cannot recreate the old userid, network will not accept it. The .ost file is not found in the Recyle bin.
Reloading the software does not help, it seems to know it needs to find the .ost file, maybe a setting in the registry.

Is there a way to configure Outlook 2003 Professional to update user's contacts from a remote file?

What I'd like to do is have a central contacts list that is updated regularly which is then downloaded automatically by each user's outlook program.

The major snag I've hit so far is removing obsolete entries without deleting the user's entire contacts folder (and any custom/personal contacts they have).

Is there a way to selectively delete entries in the manner I've described? The central list would be on aour local domain server.

I have had some success in further troubleshooting of Outlook The culprit with Outlook running very slow and swamping the system at CPU usage is with one of the three email accounts I Account CPU - Stopped Usage POP3 Outlook - Email 2003 Climbs Working had set up with it Outlook 2003 - POP3 Email Account Stopped Working - CPU Usage Climbs I deleted the email account entirely and now Outlook runs smooth as a whistle with very low CPU usage But does anybody know why all of a sudden that email account started messing up Outlook I tried adding it back as a new email account but it keeps telling me the following error when I TEST THE SETTINGS Log onto incoming mail server POP Outlook could not connect to the incoming mail server POP The problem could be your SSL or port settings for the incoming server Verify your port and SSL settings under More Settings on the Advanced Tab I have done this and called the folks who handle that email server to verify I have the correct settings but still get the above error Also when I attempt to re-add the email account CPU usage climbs to above - and Outlook no longer runs as smoothly nbsp

A:Outlook 2003 - POP3 Email Account Stopped Working - CPU Usage Climbs

First, outlook is a good tool, but a poor choice for email. Consider using other software
such as Thunderbird.

All the data in Outlook (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Email) is held in the single .PST file for each user;
the bigger it gets, the more time and cpu it takes to get into it.

As for the errors, it would appear that the settings are wrong.
The pop3 stuff is for reading your email from the ISP and the smtp is for sending;
each can be correct / incorrect.
You need the pop3 domain name (something like mail.domain.com or pop3.domain.com)
the correct port number (usually 110), AND
the proper login (secured or unsecured).

The sending side almost always requires a secured login on port 25.

Do anyone have an idea how (if possible) you password protect a folder in Outlook 2003 - like a subfolder to the Inbox.

Appreciate your help.

Nax

A:Password protect folder inside Outlook 2003?

You can't, per se, block a subfolder.

What you can do, however, is create a seperate Outlook datafile and use password protected encryption. Have outlook not store the password, and then you'll have to enter the password on each startup of Ol2003. Do note, however, that outlook doesn't always close fully when you exit, so it may not just be a matter of exit, but restarting the machine after exiting before it'll prompt the password again.

I'll check this the next time I can.

Basically can go 2 down and seems to work ok but any lower into the directory and although the option is there (right- click) no fav is actually added?

Hello All,

I'm trying to send an email with an .xml attachment (generated by a registration form that I built in Adobe Acrobat 7.0) When I click the SUBMIT BY EMAIL button an Outlook email pops up, just like it's supposed to, with all data filled out correctly and the .xml attachment in place.

Once I click SEND the email window closes. When I check my SENT ITEMS folder the email shows up but the message doesn't actually get mailed out (ie the recipients don't receive it). I have tried sending from and to various addresses from 3 computers and always the same result. I would appreciate any help on this.

I am using Windows 7, Outlook 2003, Adobe Acrobat 7.0

Mike

By the way if I go into the SENT ITEMS folder and forward the message it sends properly.

One of our users accidentally deleted an entire public folder (she meant to delete one contact but had the folder highlighted instead of the one contact). When we try to recover that folder by using the "Restore Deleted Items" in Outlook, we receive an error that she does not have permission to do so. Only 4 users had permission for that folder, and we receive that error on all 4 user's computers when we attempt to recover it. I've tried to recover it from my computer (I have administrative rights on our network), but that folder doesn't even appear in the list of available folders to recover. The person that deleted it was owner of that contact folder, so I don't know why she wouldn't have permission to recover it. Anyone have any ideas?

Rafael, when you say that the email recipient (your other account) receives the email, does it also receive the Attachment?
Is the attachment "zipped", if not then zip it to drastically reduce it's size.
Are you with NTL by any chance?
Has your ISP got an "outgoing" limit on the size of attachments?
I would suggest that you have look at a "free" Google email account for sending and receiving large attachments.

Hi,

This may sound a stupid problem but it really irritates me

I had Microsoft Office XP and upgraded it to Office 2003. When I had upgraded it I had Spambayes installed in Outlook XP. I disable Spambayes and tried the built in spam filter and found it to be really good. So I uninstalled Spambayes and started to use the built in one in outlook. What I have noticed is, there was already a folder in outlook called "Junk E-Mail" from Spambayes. When outlook was installed it automatically created a folder called "Junk E-Mail1"

It won't let me rename the folder it to "Junk E-mail" Dose anyone know a way round this? I know it seems a stupid problem but it annoys me

Thanks

A:Error message copying Personal folder in Outlook 2003.

Hi Lennyc123

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Just copy the .pst file to the CD.
The .pst file contains all your messages, contacts, tasks etc.

If, when, you need to fall back on the backup, copy the .pst file back to the hard drive, remove the Read-only attribute and open the .pst file with Outlook:
File > Open > Outlook Data File
Browse to the location of the .pst file and select it. It should open in Outlook.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

Recently i've noticed that despite deleting Outlook Connector and Live Sync ... messages that are being sent from Outlook are now being saved on line in the "sent" folder at hotmail / sympatico.

This seems to be a recent thing - did not notice it happening while using Outlook from my desktop computer.

Is there any way i can get this to stop happening. I do want to save sent emails to hotmail "sent folder" ONLY when I'm using the webmail.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated...

Hi all,

I am trying to make a query in Access to sum different fields (columns) based on a personal number. So, my table consists of:

personal number, yearborn, title, loan, loan2, loan3, %, %2, %3. I would like to add the loans together based on the personal number and the percentages together based on the personal number. I can't figure out how to do this with the sum because the sum only takes 1 parameter like loan. Can somebody help me out??

Thank you.

A:Copy files from corrupt account to new account

It may be a folder ownership problem that's causing "Access Denied".
That's because you are trying to copy folders from an account to which you are not currently logged in to.
Although both accounts (old & new) belong to the same person, Windows doesn't know that.
All it knows is that a user is trying to copy folders from another user's account, so it blocks access to them to preserve the owner's privacy.

What you need to to do is "take ownership" of the folders you wish to copy.

Our office uses an exchange server that has no configured organizational forms library configured. Whenever any of our client machines selects "choose form", outlook will automatically try to open the Organizational Forms Library and repond with the error: "Form load failed. You don't have apporpriate permission to perform this operation", after which a drop down box will allow the user to switch to a different folder and find the forms to choose, relegating this to a nuisance. In any case, I'm looking for a way to change the default locatoin to look for "choose form" so this error message won't appear every time. Perhaps it's something blatantly obvious, but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks in advance.

Outlook 2003sp2 with Exchange 2003sp2.

When I try to "Send on Behalf" an email in mailbox that I have the appropriate delegated permissions where the email was saved in the Drafts folder my credentials are in the "From" field once the recipient receives the message. Even though I add the mailbox owner's name in the "From" field before sending.

Any ideas? This only happens when a message is stored in the Drafts folder. And to the best of my knowledge I used to be able to send from Drafts without issue.

Thanks for the assistance.

A:Outlook 2003 - "Send on Behalf" from Drafts folder

Did you try changing the from field to represent the mailbox you are trying to send on behalf of. Also on the Exchange server they can give you implicit rights which will make it not say sent on behalf of.

Everytime I import the "pst" or Personal Folders file for Outlook 2003 from another computer that I have, to update, it inevitably creates a NEW "Personal Folder" file, that shows on the right hand side.

I now have 4 "Personal Folders" files! It takes forever to import now, because it imports 4 of everything!...INbox, Outbox, Sent Items, etc.

How do I import the pst file, without it creating a whole new set of folders (inbox, outbox, sent items, etc) under yet another "Personal Folders" heading?

We only have 1 mailbox per person so this 3-4 logins is strange to me.

I've had this problem for a few months, just lived with it. In the attached screen shots, you will see I have no folder trees in any of the pop up Add, Move, or Copy pop ups in Explorer and Windows Media Player. I have no clue if this can be restored to show again. This has happened before I upgraded Media Player so it shouldnt be that. I'm thinking Windows Corruption somewhere. I have not and do not have any malware on this machine or any other that I have networked. My system is clean and runs 1000%. Any ideas on how I can restore the folder trees?

Hi,

I'm new to this sort of thing so I hope I do this right!

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with SP3.

Recently, I noticed when I tried to move to/copy to from the Explorer window, my folder tree was blank in the little box that pops up. Regardless of whether I use the links to the left of the window or if I go into Edit - Copy To (or Move To), it happens with anything involving the explorer - documents, photos, etc. The only changes made recently was I had made an account on the computer for my kids, then deleted it not long after, without saving their folders (because they never used the account). Any other changes (installing programs, etc) happened after I noticed the blank box. It's not a major issue but it is slightly annoying.

Any ideas? And thank you ahead of time!

I can't seem to predict when XP Pro SP2 will let me move a folder from SharedDocs\My Videos
to C:\ and when it won't! I don't get it. If I'm Owner don't I own it already?

Sometimes I can just grab the folder that I copied from another machine and placed in My Videos and just
drag it with the Left Mouse Button into another folder on C:\ and it just moves it by changing the directory entries. Then sometimes when I do that, it copies all the files!! Well with video files that's pretty slow!!

Anyone have a clue? Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

A:Move Folder Out Of Shared Folder Same Drive Wants To Copy?

Hello MilesAhead,I'm not absolutely sure, but some of the phrases in your problem description seem to indicate that this might be a variation of the "XP + mouse movement + mouse buttons + keyboard keystrokes" behavior described in the following post. The post deals with the unexpected copying of files when trying to delete them, but I thought the same (or a similar) principle might apply with respect to moving files/folders. Guys I have done this in the past but cannot recall how and don't want to botch.

I had hoped Windows 10 corrected the "rename user account" function but nope. I renamed a User Account due to conflict on the LAN [same name, same spelling] and sure enough, now I have two names for the account, one a slightly hidden original name, and permissions issues. To rid it, I will create an all new Administrator account, move everything over, and demolish the old.
How to do? the docs/files are easy... the settings for apps etc are not as I recall

thx

A:Move/copy-paste User Account data & docs to New User account same sys

Don't even try would be my recommendation.

Make a new Admin account and copy your documents. Set everything else up from scratch.

Most applications will store their stuff in %localappdata% but unless you have some specific app (Windows Live Mail or Outlook or something) tht you must move it would be much better not to try to move things.

If there is something specifically you want to move then ask about that - I've moved the 2 I mention above, for sure someone else has moved something else.

Generally it will be quicker (and cleaner) to start from scratch than trawl though everything hoping to make sure you moved the lot. You'll only end up missing some odd directory and it will not work.

Hello Everyone

Is there a feature in Outlook where a whole department which receives emails daily (Accounting) can somehow organize themselves to show what each person is doing. Right now they are seeing the emails but not telling each-other what there doing and we think that some things might get missed. I had an idea of using the categories and changing the colours/names to each person in accounting. But that would make each staff members email extinct. I see an option called tasks in Outlook could there be a way of doing it in there? We are all using Outlook 2007 and running Exchange 2010.

Thanks!!

I hate to be cute(but can't resist), and this will bump your question back to the top of this list....But what your suggesting is the managers job(assign and track task). Outlook is not the place to manage your business.

Hello I have just discovered this forum and I have to say I only have Win XP but I don't know of another forum where I could INDIVIDUAL to icon another copy How to folder folder? get How to copy INDIVIDUAL folder icon to another folder? help with my question not DC anyway I tried Perhaps you could answer for XP specifically or for Win and I would have a look if your solution works similarly in XP then I know you can assign individual icons to folders instead of the default one but I want to make groups i e some folders red some folders blue etc for hundreds of folders so I want to do this by an AHK script working on such groups I know AHK but don't know anything about folder icons except for the fact there are several concurrent tools both free and paid but as said I would like to work by scripting the things to do Now I started with the Folderico tool and I saw that in each folder you reassign the icon of it puts a desktop ini and the icon file desktop ini with ShellClassInfo IconFile ShedkoFolderico ico IconIndex ConfirmFileOp or with ShellClassInfo IconFile ShedkoFolderico ico IconIndex ConfirmFileOp and then the icon files ShedkoFolderico ico and ShedkoFolderico ico respectively First discovery Even when it was the very same icon Folderico named the icon files differently most of the time but not in every case and even in some instances it gave the same name quot quot to different icons in different folders of course Then I played around a bit with these ini files and with the ico names and my second discovery was that I was free to rename the icon files as I pleased whenever the ico file name was identical with its listing within the ini file the icon of the respective ico file was shown not the default one But it's important to bear in mind these were ini files originally created by Folderico Then I replaced those ico files by other ico files i e I took the ico file of a quot blue quot folder copied it into a quot red quot folder adjusted the ini file of the quot red quot folder to the new ico name or vice versa renamed the freshly imported quot blue quot ico file to the one listed in the quot red quot ini file and indeed my third discovery all this worked perfectly i e the individual icon went to quot blue quot But again it's important to bear in mind I did these renames of the ico files and within the respective ini files with folders to which I had originally assigned individual icons by Folderico These remarks are so important because my fourth discovery now was my tries to copy existing ico files and the assorted existing ini files from one of these folders to another folder to which previously I had NOT assigned an individual icon by Folderico the icon remained the default one and I tried this with several such combinations So this playing around of mine was successful only with folders having been properly assigned any individual folder icon beforehand but not with quot virgin quot folders with their default icon yet So this indicates that Folderico or any of its competitors does not only create those ico files and the respective ini files for these folders but does something more within the dephts of Windows What might this be It is evident the tasks mentioned above could easily be scripted and depending on what would have to be done in Windows additionally that could also be scripted even to the point of API accesses and such but I need to know what is the missing element here such tools do on top of just copying ico files and creating the respective ini files within those folders in question I would greatly appreciate any help hint explanation link

Using Outlook 2003, Part of MS Office Professional Edition 2003, which has the capability of having multiple, separate & complete email addresses, each functioning in their own profile.

E.g. I open Outlook and it gives me a drop-down box to choose which email I want to go to, say email1 or email2.

Email1 has 2 "Contacts" areas defined.
1st problem is how to combine and synch these two. I don't want two.

Email2 as 1 "Contacts" area.
2nd problem is to combine the contacts from Email1 with Email2.

I thought these were *.pab files, but a search for *.pab comes up empty.
I do find multiple *.pst files

Any suggestions?
