Ok, I got the first part of the where clause working but cant get the second part working

I'm writing an application that uses an Access database. After an INSERT statement I'd like to retrieve the auto-generated ID to later add more information into the same record. It appears that the OUTPUT clause may do that but all the examples I see are for SQL Server. Will it work with an Access database.

I'm a novice database programmer. If OUTPUT works in Access where would the results be stored and how do I get at it?

hello all, i have one doubt. will LIMIT clause works with MS-ACCESS database? if it works the please explain how it will works....
i tried a lot by giving LIMIT clause in SELECT statement but every time it will give error. and when i remove that LIMIT part it will work fine.

I have a query which then drives a PivotChart reporting trend data.
For the life of me, I can not see what is wrong with this query though. Whenever I run it, Access displays results that ignore the WHERE date limitations.
If I remove the reference to the form and fill the data as a specific date the same thing happens.

Here's the question- how do I open a form in an existing database from another db in Access 2010 using VBA and give it focus. I can open the external db and it's form but cannot figure how to give it focus. I'm trying to create a master form that will call various databases that each have a form. Seems simple, open the master menu, click on a button that then opens the called db and the associated form. Do my business exit the db and am back at the master form. I would be okay to just close the master db, all it has it the main menu or leave it open. Doesn't matter which I just want to open the called db and form and have its focus.

Hi,
I don't support Access, nor have I been trained in it, but I've been asked if I can help in this problem.
An Access database connects externally to a SQLServer database at login time for the application. How do I find which external database they are connecting to? I know that there is a way to go behind the forms to see the source code, but I cant remember how to do this.
I cannot find an obvious User/System file dsn on the PC to give me a clue.

I have MS Access 2000. I initially created a long book list several years ago. I recently found a template from the MS database for books that I downloaded that I like better. I have tried importing the data from the old database to the new one but with no luck. Both are in Access 2000. I am running Win2K.

I am working for a company that has four people (four different computers) entering data into four different Excel 2010 files on a shared drive. I would like to create a master file on my own computer for the purpose of generating reports. How do I create one Access database that includes all of the information from the four different excel files? Also, can this Access file be continuously updated as the four Excel files are updated each day? Thank you!!!

According to what I've read, Access 2010 uses the same database format as Access 2007. So this should mean I can open and run a 2007 database (with a lot of VBA code) in Access 2010 with no trouble, yes?

So why do I have the feeling that something is not going to work? Is it because I have been through to many Access upgrades?

If you have not purchase Access 2010 yet, what I'd recommend is....download the Trial Version and play around with it for quite a while.

Hello All,
Our company had a photo booth with an F-35 fighter jet at a recent technology show. Individuals were allowed to have there pic taken in front of the aircraft with a pretty model. Now I have over 2500 pictures and over 2500 individuals that need their pic emailed to them. I have an Access database with a name, email address and a picture. Each name has a different image. How can I automatically send each person their picture through Outlook? I would like it to automatically populate a new email with the address and corresponding pic then have it be sent on its way while I am home sleeping. Can this be done? Is there a command that can run a VB script in Access to accomplish this? I thank you profusely in advance.

Hello! I have a union query bringing in info on three tables for me - works great. I'd like to find the info for just a certain date frame but when I add the date criteria, it returns all dates. Here's what I've tried:

Hi everyone,

What i need to happen is this:
- A 'Works Order' number, on my form, is entered
- 'Table1' is searched for a matching 'Works Order' number
- The highest value in the 'Document Number' field (of all the records where the works order numbers are matching) is established and increased by 1
- the resulting value is displayed in the 'Document number' box, on my form.

Here's what i have so far...

... in the expression editor i can establish the highest value in the Document Number column and can add 1 to it, but it doesn't work if i try and put in a WHERE clause (which would be WHERE ([tblCertificateOfConformity]![Works Order #] = [Works Order #])

=1+Max([tblCertificateOfConformity]![Document Number])


Any help with this, or alternatives are much appreciated.

Funny I had the same error last night. I ran Setup from the CD (from RUN prompt) checked off the access wizard. Then went and did what I was doing, it still asked to install the feature but it worked that time.

If that does not help the is an MS article, basically, if you are in "Break mode" of a module that could also cause it.

Ok I have one more question-a few people have other versions of Access in my program and need to use the database that I created in Access 97. A few people tried and couldn't open it. Is there an easy way to converting this so they can use it on their computers? Thanks for the help.
 

A:Access 97 database in Access 2000?

Access should prompt them to either open the DB file or convert it to the newer version on startup. If it doesn't you can open the newer version of Access and go to Tools > Database Utilities > Convert Database.
Warning: Everything in your DB may not convert properly so be ready to do some work if this happens.

I have created a tracking program using access the main tracking page contains name address phone numbers computer information etc I also have two fields that I insert the problem and then the fix then that is printed out to give to the customer whenever the customer brings their computer back in for service I do a search for their account and it brings up all the pre existing info There last problem and cure are still in there I access database would like to find some way if it s possible to make this dump the items to a database for each customer in case I want to go into it again and look at past events Then the next time I open their account the problem and cure fields are empty but their data past problem and cure will still be in there I almost have this program or database to where it will do everything that I want it to do Any help would be very much appreciated Thanks chad nbsp

I need help in creating a database that can be searched.

3 Items are needed...

A 2 digit year entry
A 6 digit numerical entry (need to be able to enter less digits)
A 4 digit numerical entry (need to be able to enter less digits)

I need to be able to search the 6 digit number and have it tell me what 4 digit number is associated with it.

I am hoping I am making this clear...

for Access 07 or 03? (the previous version)

Hey i need some help with a project i have for work.

my boss wants a type of program set up that controls our stock and products.

In this program i want to be able to input product codes categories invoices suppliers stock on shelf and stock on order and maybe a few similar things.

do u think microsoft access will be able to help me create this? or is there another program out there that will make it easier to do?

please help i havent started it yet just trying to educate myself as best i can and everday my boss asks how its all goin.

What kind of products are you dealing with?
Do you "Supplier" lists?
Do you have more than one Supplier for items.
Is the stock used within your area ie by yourselves rather than being sold to a Customer?
Do you want Categories and Sub Categories of stock?
Do you have "Re-Order" levels? (Minimum stock when a new order is required)

I have this access database that I from another user which I want to customize so that I can use it. The form has about 28 records with a yes or no fields. Now what I need to do is add more records as I have stuff to add that will require the user to ans. with a yes or no answer. My problem is that I am unable to add more questions (lines or record). I am unable to pen my database. It gave me an error message saying it is corrupted. I tried to do repair it but I was unsuccessful.

Don't you have any Back-ups?
Try opening a "new Blank" database and on the Main Menu, File>Get External Data>Import and then point it the corrupted file just to see if it can be opened that way.
If it can then on each set of Controls (tables, queries, forms etc) click selct all and then OK

What I have done is combine the Order Entry, Inventory Control and Customer Management databases together in Access 97 and Iím trying to get them to work together to be able to update when inventory comes in and goes out of my business.

Iím trying to figure out how to complete the actual receipt of merchandise on a purchase order in the database. I want to put in the current date or earlier (I may use yesterday's date when I finally get around to entering data) as my variables for the timing to update the inventory transaction table (units received and units on hand fields).

Can you give me the operators and operands in the expression builder and the complete proper syntax that I would need to tell an event has happened and to update the table.

I have a working Access database on a machine running WIN XP and MS Office 2003. I transferred that database file to a new machine running Vista Ultimate and MS Office 2007. When I try to open the database on the new machine, I get this message: missing reference dao2535.tlb. How do I resolve this?

Hi i created an access database for students that keeps track of their personal information as well as a monthly evaluation that they have to fill out, however i do not know how to create a button that i can place on the form that can allow the administrator to go to each student by either last name... sort of like a search engine. I don't know how to do this though, as well as just making a query that only gives me information for just 1 person and i don't have to manually put in the information in the criteria.. this i would also like to make a button or something of that sort..

please help!!! I'm close but no cigar!

I have a database where I enter part number description, and cost. I also have another database that is updated all the time with this information in it. I would like to be able to link or however you do it. I would like to lets say put in the part number and then when I push enter or tab the description and cost field populates.

any help would be great.
 

A:access Database

you can link by selecting the table tab in the DB window and then click NEW followed by selecting Link. Then search for your other database and select the table you want to link to.

You will now have access to all the fields, it is the same as a table now except you may have sharing issues if the table is opened on the source DB.

You can use this linked table just as a regular table to make reports forms, queries etc. so you may not need the table you created with the same information as it is redundant.

So you can make a form with your linked table with a combo to select the product.

I am using a form to enter data that is updated to table. The problem is that the calculated fields in the Form do not update in the table while everything eles does. Can anyone help please.

Generally, calculated data isn't stored in tables. There is no need for it. If you calculate data, you use it in queries or reports . . . when you create a report, you base it on your query, not your table.

Hi all,

I have an issue with an access database. When I print out a report one of my columns only prints out 4 out of the 5 digits. This happens with 2 machines. On other pcs the 5 digits appear in output of the report. I have checked the resolutions of the pcs and they are the same. I have expanded the column widths in design view and still the problem persists. I cannot figure out why only 4 digits appear out of the 5.

Can anybody help?

Listen...I looked and can't find anything wrong with it. I recreated the button (find by director), and it appears to work fine...just tells you the macro has been cancelled.

This isn't the first time I've been unable to find something wrong with something in Access...I'm pretty sure it's not uncommon either.

I have an access database, one of the forms I am working with has a subform. I want to be able to print part of the main form, and parts of the suboform. I can do this by inserting the form key number and the subform key number, then it prints what I want. What I am looking for is to be able to be in a clients record and push print and without having to enter anything it prints the fields in the form and the subform that I have in a report. I hope this makes sense. Is there a macro that I can put together to do this?

A:Access DataBase

The simplest way although it may not seem like it, is to do the following:
Create a Join Query that includes both tables/queries (whatever your using), and create Joins on the 2 Key fields (related), this query should then become the control source for you report.
Now in the new query go to the field that contains the data you will be selecting on the form. eg the ID for the Main form

In the criteria row right click and select Build, find your form and find the Id field control name. The syntax will be:

[Forms]![FormName]![ControlName]
Now if you don't already have one, place a button on your form that opens the Report or query, it should only display the records for the selected records.

This called "Filter by Form"

I have an issue with an access database. When I print out a report one of my columns only prints out 4 out of the 5 digits. This happens with 2 machines. On other pcs the 5 digits appear in output of the report. I have checked the resolutions of the pcs and they are the same. I cannot figure out why only 4 digits appear out of the 5.

Can anybody help?

It may be the version of True Type Fonts that are involved, can't you just increase the column width slightly.

We use Accessdata base to keep track of all our orders. All of sudden two days ago, I go to the "main switchboard" and I get a blank order entry form. In that form, there is a small clickable box and when I click on that it says "The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: The expression you entered has a function name that Microsoft Office Access can't find. *** The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Event Procedure]. ***There may have been an error evaluating the function, event or macro."

I have no idea what this means. Please help.

A:Access Database - HELP!!!!

The first thing to try after taking a backup copy of the Database is a "Repair & Compact" of the current one. You should open Accees, not the database and then choose Tools>Database Utilities>Repair & Compact. Choose the current database to repair and Compact and save it under a new name. Open the newly named, repaired database and see if it still has the same problem.

Hello, I am using Access 2000 and have created a database with a command button that opens up a report via a macro. I would like to know how to open up single reports instead of pushing a button that brings up every report, I've been able to open up reports that are based off of queries, queries that have paramenters that need to be inputted in order to bring up single unique records, but I would like to be able to just create a button that brings just that particular unique record-report off of that particular unique record on that form. Meaning that for a record that had just been inputted for John Doe on a form, I would like to know how to create a button on that form to pull up John Doe's single report without having to build a query that asks for a parameter. Is there anyway to do this?

You will have to adapt this to your own form setup; but it's just using the Where line of the OpenReport macro action.

If on the form MyFormName you have two controls called txtFirstNm and txtLastNm, and in the query underlying the report you have two fields called FirstNm and LastNm, you would put into the Where line of the OpenReport action:

I have an access 2003 database that calls a VB6 module. The module starts and then I get a run-time error 75 path/file access error. I can execute the vb module outside of access but I have to run as administrator for it to work correctly. What can I fix so that the call from access will execute? I believe the issue is with comctl32.ocx and the status bar control inside the vb module.

I am configuring a new machine with Windows Vista Home Basic and trying to access a database on a Windows XP professional machine acting as a server.. this is a peer to peer network..

I am running Microsoft Access 2002..

When I click on the icon it opens Microsoft access, but then I get an error that says

"Microsoft Access cannot open this file"
" This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open this file due to potential security problems."

It opens it fine if I copy the file to this computer..

What am I missing???

Both pc's are in the same workgroup and the file has security set for full access to everyone..

romlisys, can you create a new Blank Database on the "Server", close it and then open that?
If you can then I would suggest that you open that database and "Import" everything from the copy of the original on your computer (that you can open). You will need to import all of the
Tables, Queries, Forms, Reports, Macros and Modules. It is very quick because you can use "Select all" for each section.

If you can't open a new Blank database it would suggest that you have some "Folder" permission type problems.

hi all,
i would like to ask for database performance :

currently i split my ms access database to front end (form interface) and backend. the backend file i put on shared folder on dedicated pc, which i assume as server. the database then access by 10 staff, which having the frontend file on each pc. the backend file was ~20MB in size.

there's an option, which is upsizing the backend to be sql. then install ms sql server express 2008 r2 on "server" pc, then host the backend file and modified the frontend file so, it'll access the backend database on sql connection.

is this will increase any performance from current setting?

probably not the answer you are looking for but if you use MySQL (FREE for non commercial users) you will improve your DB performance compared with MS ACCESS by literally ZILLIONS of percent.

It's slightly more complex to get up and running but there are tutorials all over the web.

Beats running a "cut down version" of ms sql too.

Incidentally MySQL in combination with Apache, and PHP makes a great WEB server too (WAMP). Also compatable with Linux where the same combination is called LAMP.

Im creating a database to book both rooms and resources, assign them to staff etc, iv created a barebones system that lets you book the room/resource and assign it to a person on a date, what i need is.. if someone can help that is, is when a date reaches a certain point, say 1 day before.. to pop up a reminder, also.. i need the room to pop up as booked if between dates that are already booked.

nphcpa, welcome to the forum.
I am not sure what "AR, AP, CD,PR,JE, GL........etc." are, but it sounds like the overall design of the database may not be optimal.
The fact that you have to have the "move data from tables to GL" suggests that the data should be in a GL table but identified by it's source and split up via Queries for data input/editing.
As for item 2 it sounds like you should have a "Line Entry" sub table and subform for the Transactions.
Can you show me a screenshot of your table Relationships?

Hello All I am years old currently studying ICT for As-level For my coursework we have to create a database for a business real or not doesn t really matter We have been working on Access Database Problems. this for several months now and we are currently on the implementation section which consists of Access Database Problems. actually creating the database I have so far successfully managed to make everything work until now My database is for a newsagents but they are unaware of this creation I have created a form entitled Customer Sales Receipt which is based upon all entities from two tables named Customer Sales Receipt and Sales Details I also have a similar form entitled Purchase Orders which is based upon all entities from two tables named Purchase Orders and Order Details I seem to be having trouble with the SaleID in this two forms It is meant to be an Autonumber but when i try to add a new record to either form the autonumber does not show up I then get a pop-up telling me that The field SalesDetails SaleID cannot contain a Null value because the require property for this field is set to True Enter a value in this field This comes up after I have selected the ProductID in the subform of the customer sales receipt Upon attempting to close the form I get a message saying You cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in table Customer Sales Receipt I tried using the Access Help files but they are pretty much useless to me So any help given will be very much appreciated as I have to hand this part of my work in tomorrow Also a few other questions while Im here I have a Telephone Number field and I would like to enforce as the starting code how do i do this In my supplier table I am unable to enter the name of a supplier with two parts to the name and have the second part have a capital how would i be able to do this What is Tab Order How do I use this I have attached a copy of my database to this thread Also I will need a detailed description of tasks as I have to print screen them for the Software and Technical Development Document Thank you very much for any help that is given I truly appreciate it Samantha nbsp

I decided to make a mde file with it out of curiousity. It has now taken my database and password protected it. I never set any password and as such cannot get access to the database.

It has taken my user name from my login, but it is not using my login password.

Does anyone know how I can override this, or reopen an older version of the database.

When I go to generate a report in an Access database that consists of about 10 plain text pages, the program crashes. Task manager says not responding. ONLY Access is open, nothing else. And this is a 1.3 Ghz with 256 megs ! Any pointers ? Thanks !!

A Grocery Database that allows you to compare prices for various grocers in youe area including the impact of 1. Coupons and 2 coupon doubling and tripling. Last would be historical data of pricing. From this you couls create a shopping listfor each store each week and predict when prices will be at their lowest and coupons have the reatest impact.
I'm a newbie to Access and had a VB class over 16 yrs ago. I've done a lot of input to the main table just trying to get an idea of how to manage it with queries & reports. Any ideas? I know it's a lot so i'll understand if it's 2 much.

I'm trying to import a database to an existing database. Both are identical, aside from their WO_NUM field, which distinguishes each record (and is primary key).

I have enough information in the database fields to make the database I want to import match. The problem is that the database is not allowing me to manually enter data. When I try a manual increment of the WO_NUM table, I am getting the following message:

ODBC-call failed.

A:importing database in access

I'm assuming you are importing the tables, it seems like you are importing the primary key also, that will cause a problem because there will be duplicates.

You can try dumping the table into Excel and strip off the ID column and then import the excel table or Paste it into the table. Access will create new ID's for it.

Sorry, I do not know Java at all, but I do know Access. Those look like instructions to Access.
The first "int DEFAULT AUTOINCREMENT" means Use an Integer value and it is Autoincremented by the table.
The other 2 mean Text of 30 characters (maximum presumably" but must not be Null ie nothing, so an entry must be made.
Why not try implementing it and then make some entries and see if that is what happens.

Copy the file to a thumb drive or across the network. THe only issue with Access 2007 might be the trusted locations setings for where the database would be running from.

I have a really confounding problem Situation Small non-profit organization with workstations mostly Dell Pentium s Office network uses a Buffalo server and router I don t know for sure but assume the network is problem database Access a simple Base-T The organization runs on the MS Access databases I ve designed one of which is a reservation system The major tables for that system are the Signups table where the information for each reservation is collected and the EventSched which simply contains data for all the events for the year with event type date departure and return time location program type etc The tables contain a lot of links to auxiliary tables per the attachment The database is a client server design Forms on the workstations tables on the Buffalo Each year I go in and set up the reservation tables for the next year in this case I did that yesterday I first copied the database containing the tables to a file with the name quot PublicSailTbls mdb quot After deleting all the records in the Signups EventSched Manifest and HowPaid tables to make them ready for next year s entries on the workstation on which I was doing this I also copied the Forms client side of the split database changed the name to quot PublicSailForms mdb quot and changed the links to the tables file on the Buffalo This is the same process I have used for the last years Problem is the Signups form Access database problem will open on Access database problem only two of the workstations On the others the system goes into quot indefinite busy quot hourglass Task Manager indicates Access and everything else is quot not responding quot but attempts to quot end task quot fail Only way to restore the system is to select quot Restart quot Because it worked on two workstations we thought perhaps the network was not working properly so quot regenned quot it shut all computers down shut the Buffalo and router down waited one minute then brought the network back up Didn t change anything system still works on two of the workstations but not on the others Anybody have a clue as to what s going on where I should look for the cause of this odd problem nbsp

I have an Access database which was copied to an USB device and has become corrupt. I am getting the following error message: The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Databases'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. (Microsoft JET Database Engine). I have attempted to repair the database, run the JETCOMP.exe, import the data from another Access database, SQL Server, Excel; and continue to get the same error. I want to share a database from my Windows XP pc with a laptop with Vista. I have tried network sharing, usb replicating and cannot get the information I put into the laptop to replicate on the pc. I have a feeling this should be easy, but cannot find a way to do it. Help much appreciated?

Are you using replication to allow you to work on the laptop remotely and then synchronize the changes later on? If so, after you make the data changes and network them back together are you using "Tools">>"Replication">>"Synchronize Now"? This will synchronize the changes you have made in both.

We have quite a hefty database (approx 90meg) that we would like to split into 2 smaller databases.

The plan is that if a certain "Date" field is older than a set date or another field = "Closed" then these records can be move to a archive database. The archive database needs to still have all the forms, queries and reports.

Is there software to do this or is it a case of make a copy of the database as the archive then manually delete the records that match the above criteria.

A:Splitting Access Database

In access, create a new blank db. Go to File...Get External Data...Import...

Import all tables, queries, reports, etc. that you want.

In the table in the new DB, run a maketable query, pulling all records where Date < (cutoff date) or other field = "Closed".

This new table will have your backup info. Delete the table you initially imported.

Hi! I'm a web designer - new to databases.

I'm setting up a database for a DJ company, and wanted a second opinion. Is it better to create one table called "Events" (which would necessarily hold a space for only occasionally required fields like BridesName and GroomsName), or to break the table down into a table for Weddings, Parties, Mitzvahs, etc. and either risk some form of redundancy. I'm leaning toward the first option, but wasn't certain, and wanted a second opinion.

Access database not opening completly

I have a user that is having Microsoft Access 2003 issues. There is a database created for this base only but here is what is happening.

He moved from one building to another. At the first bldg. he had all rights and access. He moved the same machine to another bldg. and tried to log on. He was able to log on but he is unable to access certain parts of the database. We have changed his permissions so that he has full permissions and we have changed the macros to that it is low. When that didn't work we reloaded Office. None of that worked. Some things will give him an "open report error" but on others it won't give him any errors at all. It just dosn't open. Any ideas?

Is that on a domain? Or just a workgroup?

If it's a domain, you have a whole mess of permissions to check. Maybe you missed just one?

As an experiment. Try to copy the whole database, COPY, to his machine directly and open it from there. If he can't even access it locally, then there has to be a problem only between Access and the DB. Usually some kind of version conflict.

I have this database that I need to complete. I have completed the basics but can not seem to figure ot how to do the rest of it. Can someone help me.

1. Final section greyed out when no is selected for response
2. Change current stage field when key fields are populated
For example:
- When exit meeting is entered, the current stage should automatically change to tracking.
- When response needed is not checked, current stage should be completed.

3. Have the BOG and Internal Due Dates Met fields automatically calculated in the background

at work we input alot of data into a single (very simple) Excel spreadsheet which is kept on a drive accessable by every computer in the office. The problem is once one person has opened it another cannot add or amend information because the file becomes "read only".

Is there a program which will allow more than 1 person at a time access and amend data in a simple database? i dont mind abandoning Excel if there is another program out there that can do what i need

MS Access comes to mind since it is easy to get with MS Office. There is also the openoffice.org database software. I'm not sure if is multi-user, it should be and best of all its free. I happen to use MS Visual Foxpro which may be too much for you.

I am creating a database to track customer, vendor, and investment information. I want my queries to include the following:
By Vendor
By Customer
By Mature/Surren Date
By Investment type

Later down the road...I want to create a form to input new customers. I want the form to have a pull-down menu for both the vendor and the investment fields.

I was thinking I should have a Vendor Table, Customer Table, and Investment Table. However, Vendors and the investments they offer vary from vendor to vendor -- A vendor typically has between 1-40 different investment options.

I have downloaded the book collection database from microsoft website but i would like to alter it a little.

When i am entering the details of book on the second box down you can click on the box and enter the books topic IE crime, romance, thriller and so onand then when you enter the next book you have only to enter the first letter and it is entered automaticly.

My question is how do i copy this feature as i would like to have another so i can easley enter where i got the books from without having to type all the infomation in.

I have a database in access that I am trying to send to Excel. One of the fields within the database contains about a paragraph of text. When I send it to Excel, I am losing a portion of the text. Any idea how to change that? I have resized the excel cell and that did not work.

Microsoft Excel Specifications (Excel Help) gives the following limitations to field contents.

Length of cell contents (text) 32,767 characters. Only 1,024 display in a cell; all 32,767 display in the formula bar Click to expand...

Any greater than 32,767 and you will risk losing them in the conversion, but if its just a para or two you should be fine, but you will see it truncated, with the rest 'hidden', so to speak. Its an inbuilt limitation I'm afraid. You could try splitting the contents to an additional field, though that could be messy to look at and manipulate.

I want to make a database listing CDs and track titles. I can't figure out how to go about this, since the number of tracks vary so widely on different CDs. Some CDs have 23 tracks! Do I need to create 23 fields just for those few?

Better yet, can I make an expandable field that will keep creating new data fields as needed?

I know how to set up a basic database, so I don't need help with that.

A:MS-Access: How to Create a CD Database

The idea that you propose in having a single table that lists the CD Name (Album Name) and the tracks together as a single line item isn't a very effective method of making that database for exactly the reasons you raised. Rather than having them in one table, split them up and relate them.

The way I would go about doing this is...

Table 1: Albums
Fields: Album Name, Artist, Year, Genre, Whatever other fields you might add
Primary Key: Either make it a composite key with Album Name and Artist or create an additional field which contains a unique identifier such as a Number. I would suggest creating a unique field as the primary key as it is easier to work with.

Table 2: Tracks
Fields: Song Title, Artist, Album, Track Number
Primary Key: I would go with Song Title and Artist as a composite Primary Key.

Table 3: Artists (If you so choose)
Fields: Artist, any other info about the artist or group you wish to include.
Primary Key: Artist Name

The important thing is the relationships between these three tables.

Albums Table is related to Tracks Table in a One to Many Relationship (One album has Many songs).

Albums Table is also related to the Artist Table in a One to Many Relationship as well (One Artist may have Many Albums).

You need to determine what you want to have as your primary keys which will determine what the foreign keys will be in the related tables. For example, if in the Albums Table you use the Name and Artist as the Primary Key, then these fields would be related to the corresponding fields in the Tracks Table.

You don't have to follow my model exactly, but do you understand the idea of splitting up the Tracks and Album Names fields into different tables and relating them? This eliminates the problem of constantly having to add fields for new tracks. It'll also make queries significantly easier to sculpt.

I have to build a simple database in access with a few queries and reports. I also need a form and possibly a switchboard.

I have the start but I don't know how to build a dependent combo box and could use some help. Is there anyone out there with the time to help me get this straighten out.

Currently I'm working on a project at work and am unsure as to what would be the best way of implementing the following concept: There is a need to track certain access to labs and software within the building. An end user should be able to submit a pre-created form (likely in infopath) and it should automatically be added to a database over a network drive.

I am happy to provide more detail of the task if needed, I just need to know what the best implementation of this concept would be. The process should be something an end user should be able to just submit without difficulty. Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

Am trying to create an access database, which will be used in updating client records in an insurance firm. The biggest challenge is that I know very little about Access,(my I.T expertise is limited to viewing videos on youtube) I currently have the 2010 version, windows 7. 64 bit.

I would really appreciate all help in understanding how to make the database.
so far, I have been able to import the data from excel, create forms.

I need help with creating search forms, making reports and queries.

The database is for internal use, and will not be published on-line.

Ive been trying to put a copy of my database onto a cd-r. "save & save as" on the file menu are always in faint writting and i can not select them. Any idea's as i desprately need to give a copy to my unie teacher? Help Me Please

First, make sure it is not Read-Only (right-click, Properties). If you are trying to save the whole database, then you should be able to save as to the CD. If you are trying to just save a table (or some other portions of the database), make a blank database and import those items into it.

I've been tasked to set up an Access Database that will accept input from Excel spreadsheets Question Database Access from a template file that is created and distributed to several employees The files will contain about fields some inventory and some dollar amounts as well as a few contact information type fields I'm okay up until this point Now these templates will be completed once a month and turned in If the data was replacing the previous amounts in the fields I'd know how to Access Database Question do this easily but the daya needs to be tracked for each month So January will have a customer account with fields February that same customer account will have new data potentially in all fields So rather than have one record for each customer I'll need to have one for each month that goes by I may be sounding vague on this so ask questions as needed but I'm not sure how to go about this If I create a February record the customer info account number etc will all be the same so wouldn't that cause issues going forward If there's no easy way to do this does that mean Access might not be the best solution I believe Access was suggested so queries could be run to extract data

You can have two tables in Access, one with Customer account details with a unique ID (autonumber should work fine) and the other with the monthly transaction details.
When you are adding the data from the spreadsheet, you could update the existing customer details or add new customer details, and insert the transaction details in the other table for that customer using the ID as reference.

I haven't thought about this fully, so there could be gaps in the logic

EDIT:
1. Whenever you are adding the data from the spreadsheet, you would need to check if the customer already exists in the customer table and insert or update as necessary (if updating, get the customer ID for inserting the transactions).

2. Even when you are updating the customer record, you will need to make sure it has to be updated (could be spelling mistakes in the new record)

I set up and maintain an Access 2000 database in a hospital to track patients in a particular program. The hospital has signed with another info system operator and it looks like they are changing to Oracle. I know nothing about the database and am wondering how much different it is from Access and if I will be able to import my Access database and queries into the Oracle database. The hospital does not support Access and has not done so in the past. Our department is apparently the only one using Access; however, we may be able to keep using Access even tho we aren't supported by the IS operator. BUT if we can make the change w/o a lot of problems, maybe we should do so. I'm self taught on Access and will probably have to take outside classes on my own for Oracle.

Any suggestions for me.

I am setting up a database and I would like to get some ideas on what would be the best way to it and compare it with mine.

I have a list of shareholders (ID #, name, address) that I am going to import in the new database.

Each shareholder has to vote for a maximum of three candidates for each terms (3 terms in all) and the list of candidates for each term is different.

I have to report daily who is winning for each term.

Shareholders (shID, Name, Address)
Candidate (canID, Name, OtherStuff)
Vote (canID,shID)

The shareholder and the candidate tables are static and the vote table is updated. YOu need some kind of validation to ensure that each shareholder only casts 3 votes and that they don't vote for the same cadidate twice. Unless you are doing all of the data entry and then it should be fine.

Hey all,

I have at least two user's that access a 212 MB Access database. It was working fine up to a few days ago. Now they are having some funky stuff happening. Using both or either Access 2000 and Access 2003 they are getting this error message some times when they try to open the database:

"You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. Any changes you make may not be saved."

This happens to multiple users. When they access the database a .ldb file appears indicating it is locked. Some times the user can make changes and some times not. The file is located in a place similar to this: G:\share\subfolder\atc board database.mdb

I've Google'd the error message and haven't found anything that really fixes the issue. Any thoughts?

I have a membership database created by someone who is no longer available to consult. It contains fields to check for organizations joined. The information was for 2008. I am getting ready for a new year and would like to keep the 2008 information but create a new form that clears those fields to insert 2009 information. Do I need to copy the 2008 database and save as 2009. I know this will sound crazy, but how do I do that? When I open the document and click save as it says save switchboard to _____________; save as _____________

Hi, I'm having problems opening my access database - I've an awful feeling its corrupt. I get this message when I try ot open it ...
Unrecognized database format and it lists the file path. The file is in .mdb format so I'm confused as to why it won't open. I need this file to be accessible as its got 2 weeks worth of data on it - both of my backups are corrupt too

In my database program the user has the option to delete clients from a list or add new ones. This works fine unless all clients are deleted and the database becomes empty. Once this happens, the user is still able to add new clients to the empty database. However, back in the forms area, it will not allow new data to be entered in the fields for the new clients.

i have fields in my database, and the first field is autonumber which is set as the primary key...

the next field starts with Lname, Fname, Add, state, and so on...

how do i sort the Lname field which stands for last name to be in alphabetical order everytime a user inputs that information through a visual basic program.....

Hi folks i am relatively new to using Access Databases and have a query

i have created a form in Access which users manually input data into and i trying to work out if its possible that when data is entered into 2 fields called actual hours and hourly target (both long integers) then a calculation can be done and put into another field within the same form
