Q: Uninstalling Arabic options in Word 2000

I have a user working on Word 2000 in Windows 98SE.

Her Word seems to have arabic options installed. These screw up her bullets and other symbols, as well as her dictionary and auto-correction. I don't know how the arabic stuff got there and she doesn't need them.

I haven't found any way to uninstall this option. I've looked in the menus and I've tried unistalling and reinstalling Word (but not Office), but it didn't work.

Does anyone have an idea for how I can get rid of this without reinstalling Office completely?

Hi all, just 2 weeks back i've come across a new problem in Word2000. I've a friend try to change the font sizes in Word 2000 when using Arabic Fonts. But she is unable to do that. But if she were to try changing the Arabic Fonts size in Excel 2000, she will be able to do that. I've tried logging on as another user id (Windows 2000) but the problem persist.

Have also tried to repair office, un-install/re-install office, re-create a new profile for her, but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I find Word 2000 options to be unstable. I set white on blue, not to select whole word when editing and a few other things. A day or two later it goes back to black on white, with my other options gone. I use my own version of Normal - not an issue surely. I'm using WIN 98SE, Pentium4, 256 RAM, lots of gig. I didn't get this problem with my vintage Word 97. Any ideas, you chaps?

Office 2000 has 3 (large) service packs that are required to fix many bugs.
Have you applied them?

SR1a is needed, but SP3 can then be applied. SP2 added some Outlook security issues that were not reversible, please yourself on that one.

The 'options' menu under tools is missing in my version of Word 2000, installed with Office 2000 premium edition. I've tried reinstalling the program, but the menu still fails to appear. All other versions of Word that I use have the menu.

i googled how to change the language to arabic, but for some reason when u go menu-> word options -> advanced-> show document content, the part that is supposed to change the language isnt there.

I was trying to configure Word 2000 to send email, but I can't seem to find the means to configure the bloody thing. I have tried help files, but wasn't much help.

Word itself does not send (or receive) e-mail messages. You may configure Word to be your e-mail editor, but it still requires an e-mail program (such as MS Outlook) to send messages.

You can send e-mails from within Word by using File, Send To, Mail Recipient (or Mail Recipient as Attachment), but this still uses Outlook to do the sending and receiving.

I am a novice, but with some experience in Word, plus had help from a professional. So we downloaded and intalled the keyboard and complex script and right-to-left languages as described here We restarted when promted. Opened a Word doc, set the language and font to Arabic transparent, but it keeps switching back to Arial or New Times Roman as soon as I type. I can open Arabic documents without any problem and I can cut & paste and it all appears as it should on the page, justified to the right, etc.

Can someone please help? Thanks a million!

Oh - and I installed it on my other computer which also runs XP, but it's Office 2007. It didn't have any problems.

I recently installed windows 2000 on my computer after formatting the hard drive. After having some problems with drivers, I want to re-install windows 98 from a restore disk included with my computer. I don't know too much about computers and can't get the restore disk to boot the computer. Can I just use a Win 98 boot disk, or if not how can I go about uninstalling Windows 2000 or reformatting my hard drive?

i tried to install xp over a copy of 2000 running on a computer, when i installed it, instead of installing itself over 2000 i now have both xp and 2000 on the same partitian, i would really like to keep xp and uninstall 2000 but i have no idea how i would go about uninstalling an OS. any ideas would be a great help. ohh one more thing, i could just reinstall xp over everything if someone can tell me how to set it up so that the install whipes the entire disc clean before putting the new os on it. thanks a ton

Hi There

This is not a macro question. I have been at this for hours now with no success. I have a picture in MS word 2000. The picture is text with a box around the text. See attached MS Word 2000 file. I want to copy this picture into Excel 2000. But when I do a copy and paste, it does paste into Excel but just the box shows up and not the writing. Can someone out there copy it and paste it for me in Excel 2000 and send it to me?? I can then copy it from your Excel spread sheet into my Excel spread sheet.

When attempting to uninstall the Office 2000, I get the following error message "Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install"; and no other installations are running. I followed instructions given in the Microsoft Knowledgebase with no success

Is Office being uninstalled due to a bad original installation or maybe an aborted reinstall?
If so you could have conflicts in the Registry.

I assume you are using Office's own uninstall program and would suggest you use another, say Norton Cleansweep. This will probably allow you to ditch the bulk of the Office stuff but you will probably benefit from a clean up all around. Take a look on the link below for more info:

I have a problem with windows 2000 in that I seem to have 3 installations of it running on my computer! The problem started when I had the system stop working and a friend who said he knew about computers offered to fix it. He told me that he would have to re-install the operating system, which he did. The original system now seems to be working ok but during his problem solving [/he has put on 2 additional windows 2000 systems so that when I start up it gives me the option of going into 3 versions, 2 of which are the basic system,. I would like to remove these 2 systems and just get back to the original.

I just wanted tips on doing it.

I have 2 hard drives: D: (stores 8 Gigs) and C: (stores 4 G). The win 98 folder is currently in the C drive. Should I completely uninstall win 98 before installing win 2000?

If you want just win2k, boot with the win2k cd [it is bootable]. You must set your bios to boot from the cd as first boot device.
During setup you will be given a choice as to where to install win2k, choose the C drive. You will now be given a choice to delete the partition, go ahead and delete the partition. You will now be given a choice to create a partition, go ahead and create the partition; format it with the file system of your choice i.e. either fat32 or ntfs. Setup will continue and load win2k.
Prior to doing this make sure your hardware is win2k compatible; in addition download any drivers you may need and save them to the drive you are not installing to.
Another option is to dual boot using both win9x and win2k. You do this by installing to a different partition than what win9x is installed to. Win2k will setup a boot menu for you so you can choose os on startup.

Using Access 2000, I have a number field, formatted number....
doing a mail merge in word, causes the field which is called Dues to loose it's formatting... Word says to apply a Numeric Picture Switch...{ Dues \# $#,##0.00 } but try as I might I cannot get it to work....

Up until today, i have connected to Access via ODBC, then chosen my query in Access, then used microsoft query to further filter the mail merge...

today i get an error that says Word can't reestablish a DDE connection with Microsoft Query to complete the task.

Do you know why or what happened...if you don't have time to answer, if you could just point me in the direction of a document it would be helpful.

Hi folks I have this problem that is hard to search for on Google We have a lot of word documents connected to a simpel text data file data doc that is used with mail merge Here is our process data doc is opened filled with all variablenames we can use in our documents name country etc data doc is opened filled with the actual data from a database belonging to the variables name Kees Japan etc 2007 2000 documents problem Opening correctly automation in word word Our vb net application does step and then starts a template word document which has that data doc file attached for mail merge The template is now filled in with the correct data Opening word 2000 documents correctly in word 2007 automation problem vb net application tells MS Word to print the document Works fine and we have ourselves a nice document filled in with data we specified in the vb net application Now comes the problem some new computers will have office instead of office installed during testing we have encountered that it does not error but the office installed computer does not fill in the data and just shows mergefield names lt lt name gt gt lt lt country gt gt Also when printed out So it seems like the datafile is not connected when opening the template in word If we let our vb net application show us the document visually first we can re-attach the data file again and we can print the data however there are thing wrong with this approach More user input which is not needed MS Word is opening and showing something we do not want in some cases We also automate the printing of packages which is basicly a list of different templates that needs to be printed automatically without users input Because the old computers will not be updated anytime soon to office versions we have to work some time with both systems So we cannot convert the document to word version because the office computers can t read them anymore How can I let the office read the documents with correct automatic mail merge without user input just as word does We can implement the possible solution both in the sourcecode of the vb net application as we can solve it by configuring ms office so all possibilities are welcome With kind regards nbsp

Put in your WIN ME disc, restart computer. Right after POST, when you hear the beeps, hit DEL. This will take you into your system Bios. Find the line that says Boot Sequence. Hit Enter. Change CD-ROM to be first, this is usually done by hitting the - and + keys. Hit the F10 key to save changes and exit. Your computer will restart again, this time it should go into the Windows ME setup screen. Follow the steps to format your hard drive and install Windows.

Your BIOS keys may be different, but the above way of getting into the system BIOS is the most common. Post back if that doesnt work out for you.

Doesn't have uninstall in program so i went to add remove but can't uninstall from
there. Tells me no path is available and to put cd in. I do that and get all kinds of
pop ups from there and still can't uninstall. went to microsoft public works and followed
what they said. In one step it says i will get an uninstall window then gives all the next steps from there. I don't get the uninstall window. Any ideas how to get rid of this program?

I just recently did an upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows 2000. Everything seemed to transfer over fine. When I joined the domain, I was no longer able to access my Office 2000. I keep getting the error message "This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and you can access it or contact to vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I looked all over Microsoft and found the Windows Installer Cleanup utility however this only works with versions of installer under 2.0. My installer for this file was 2.0.2.

I went into the registry to delete out the office files but this has not helped either.

Any other ideas???

So you're saying that the problems didn't start until you joined the domain? Are you trying to use Office2k or are you trying to unistall?

I've never had any luck upgrading. I suggest a fresh install using NTFS and install office2k afterwards.

One of the features I really liked in the DOS version of WordPerfect 5.1 was the ability, when highlighting, to simply type a character or string of chars. near the end of the relevant portion to be highlighted and have the program take the highlight directly there.

Can WORD 2000 do this? So far, all I can figure out is how to highlight either an entire word, sentence, or line, but none of them with the precision that WordPerfect 5.1 allowed.

Hello, I am a consultant in central Texas and I have a customer that does not recall the chronology of how he got into this situation but basically, I'll attempt to explain. He has Word 2000 installed on an XP Pro machine. He wants to do a mailing that 2000 is unable to handle. We found that 97 will do the desired process with no problem. I tried to install Word 97 to his computer but the setup program indicates that 97 is already on the machine. There is no trace of Word 97 that I can find. The customer thinks that he has vacillated between 97 and 2000 at least twice. I just want both on this machine at the same time. I could uninstall both and then reinstall 2000 then 97 and I think it will work but I was hoping to avoid the uninstalls. Any ideas?

It sounds like Uncle Bill left some fragments in the registry (or, hopefully, just a file used to flag Word'97's presence).

Hopefully you are using "My Documents" to save everything created in MSWord (either version); that will make it pretty easy to back up the files you don't want to take chances on. Burn a couple CDs or DVDs as needed/if available.

Check the Add/Delete Programs- to see which version/s are installed. I would uninstall each one- re-starting the computer between uninstalls.

With operating systems it makes a difference in which order they are installed; I would follow the same rule for the same reasons--- install the older one first (Word 97). Paranoia makes me want to shut down & reboot between versions. Then install Word 2000.

I have had a search of the forum and can't find a solution to this, so apologies if it is a known / obvious fix for the experts!

I have created a document in Word 2000 that includes some "Windings" symbols. In opening the document on other machines in Word 97, some of them have changed font colour and turned into "Wingdings 2" and others have remained in "Wingdings" but changed font colour.
Wingdings is definitely an installed font on the machines I have tried, and it appears to be a consistent change on those different machines (i.e. replaced characters are the same and colour changesare the same).
[We are all appear to be using the same printer drivers and are using Windows 98]

Slight error in the above. Gone back to original machine and checked document. When opening in Word 97 the font isn't actually changing as I did use "Wingdings 2" in the original anyway, but clolours are changing and the actual symbol used in "Wingdings 2" has changed.

So basically the two problems are:

1 - font colours are changing on all the symbol font characters (whether "Wingdings" or "Wingdings 2").
2 - a different symbol is being used for those in "Wingdings 2" on the Word 97 machines.

I downloaded a trial of Office 2007. It has now expired and I uninstalled it and now Outlook 2000 (what I was running before) will not open. Here is what I have done so far. I uninstalled Office 2007. I did a system restore and I manually went into the registry and deleted Office 2007 (per dierections off the internet). I uninstalled Office 2000 and re-istalled it (several times and several ways). I have opened it in safe mode and it will open and download messages and seems to work fine, well... as fine as safe mode is. I don't know what else to do. I have searched and searched all over the internet for solutions and haven't come across one yet. Any thoughts?

Office 2000 Pro and a prior Office 2000 SBE installationin: Everything was fine until my husband installed a floppy of Word XP from a training book/program he bought. First, only Word XP comes up, by default I guess though the rest of the 2000 suite is okay except PowerPoint which can't access clips. So, I uninstalled the whole shebang fron the control panel (Word XP, Office 2000 SBE, Office 2000 Pro, )and tried to start from scratch. All the Office 2000 Pro components reinstalled fine except Word 2000, which is "x"ed out. Also tried "repair" to no avail. System is running Windows 98.
Is it something with the registry? How do I fix this mess? He hates Word XP and just wants the old Pro that he's used to. If I don't find a solution to this, he'll be screwing my system up next . Thanx.

When I try it tells me that it will not work and to try from the file menu (Word 97 opens, but no document appears). I try from the file menu, but it still will not open. Is there a patch I can download to enable this? I tried the Microsoft site, but there seems to be no patch and there is no article in their knowledge base to help. Any ideas?

Hi all, I have a problem with viewing my Word 2000 documents under Word 2002. I format a document under 2000 and when I look at it under 2002 the margins on the top and bottom are shifted upward. The margin settings are the same size when I look at the document under 2000 and 2002 but the 2002 documents are offset. My text boxes and pictures are shifted somehow. I was thinking there might be a hot fix for this issue. Anyone know what is causing this?

i ran into a different problem with office '97 and 2000 and changed all systems to 2k.
i'd run a 97 or 2k word doc and was always asked if i wanted to change to the other format, sometimes i did, sometimes i didn't.

i have a feeling you try to look at a doc done in 2k and want to view it in 2002.
when you finish you're probably asked do you want to revert back to 2k and that's why you're having problems.
if you change it to 2002 it 's supposed to be backward compatible with 2k and you don't say if this is happening one time or every time.

I am having difficulty in getting word wrap to operate successfully.
After having entered a page of text, and inserted the picture, graphic, etc I then go to the 'edit wrap points' function which places a dotted outline around the graphic. If I then drag the graphic into place ie over the text, nothing happens.

I have also gone to the the 'Format > tight' function, but again nothing.

How do I get the text to wrap around the graphic as I intended.

I would appreciate any help.

My 2000 MS Word stopped opening the documents I have on file. The error message : "There was a problem sending the command to the program" keeps coming up after the document tries to open. I can create and save documents, but then cannot open them to view the content. This started after the removal of roaming defender spyware by SpyHunter software. I don't have any files blocked by SpyHunter and still have the issue with Word with SpyHunter deactivated.I am wondering if a file got removed in the spyware clean up and removal?

Word should be able to open the WordPerfect document. Or you can save the document as a Word 97 document in WP. Do file>Save As, and in the File Type box Select Word 97/2000/2002, and click save.

I have an issue with word 2000 in the office 2000 suite. Sometimes when I'm typing a letter I will get a bunch of gurbage like this {}[][][][][][][][]()()()()()(), instead of my words that I typed. and it will only happen on a small portion of the file. NOw im completely up to date with service packs with office 2k, and my os is patched as well. and I do have virus protection and did a online scan with trendmicro housecall and everything came up clean. what else could cause this type of problem?

The first thing I would suggest is to get a clean default template. It cures most Word problems and is the easiest to do.

Enable the viewing of hidden and system files.
Do not have Word running.
Search for and delete all occurrences of the "" file.
There must be at least one, if you find none, you have not enabled the viewing of hidden and system files.

When you next run Word, a new "" file will be created.

I am trying to figure out if there is a registry hack that will retain power options set on Windows 2000 pcs. As far as I know, every time the power settings (schemes) are changed in the control panel, it reverts back after a reboot. Is there a registry hack that will retain those power settings?

Of course you know editing the registry is dangerous. More so because the edit you are requesting involves loading user profiles. You know how grumpy people can become if you mess their stuff up.


Setup: Permissions to edit registry

Performance Steps

1. Navigate to Start\Run and type REGEDIT.
2. Highlight the HKEY\USERS registry key
3. From the FILE menu select LOAD HIVE
4. Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\Default User and select NTUSER.DAT and click OK.
5. Next you are prompted for a name. Type NTUSER and press enter.
6. You will now see a NTUSER registry key under HKEY\USERS.
7. Highlight the NTUSER\Control Pannel\PowerCfg key.
8. In the right pane you will see Current Power Policy with a value of 0-4, change this to a value of 1 for laptop, 3 for always on, 0 for home ofice.
9. Highlight the NTUSER key.
10. From the FILE menu select UNLOAD HIVE. Confirm that you want to close all sub-keys.
11. From the FILE menu select EXIT.
12. Log off current user and test registry edit by logging in as a user and check the power options in the control panel. It should be set to always on.
13. End Task.

Note: This is for XP but the principle should be the same for 2K. You should be aware that for every user profile already created there is a NTUSER.DAT file. You would need to repeat the process for each user. The default user is to take care of future users.

Have used this fix on over at least200 XP systems. Good luck

I have a situation where Word isn't saving any changes to options check boxes. For example, I'll uncheck the box for Word to replace normal quotes with "smart" quotes, but if I quit Word, the box is checked again.

Other Options save properly: I can create autocorrection entries, make changes to toolbars, customize keystrokes, and those save fine.

I've tried blowing away and starting from scratch, no luck.

I've tried restarting the PC. No dice.

I've tried starting Word in Safe mode, but the same issue occurs.

I ran diagnostics. No apparent troubles detected.

I've reset the appropriate registry key.

I've done a repair with the install disk.

I've uninstalled Word and reinstalled it.

Still, when I uncheck (or check) any check box in Word Options, after quiting Word I lose the changes. This doesn't happen in Excel or Outlook.

What else can I try?

A:Word Not Saving Options

I was able to solve the issue by disabling Add-ins. This is what finally worked:

First, I went to the MS Word icon IN THE MICROSOFT OFFICE SUBMENU in the Start/Programs menu. I right clicked the icon, choose properties, selected the Compatibility tab and checked the check box "Run this program as administrator."

Next I started Word, answered "Yes" when prompted.

In Word, went to Options, Add-ins, at hit the button at the bottom of the screen to manage the Add-ins.

I unchecked the Add-ins, confirmed changes, then restarted Word.

Now I could make changes the Word options and they saved.

Next I reapplied the Add-ins and unchecked the "Run this program as administrator" in the Word icon properties under the Compatibility tab.

It's a pain to go through all those steps to change options, but at least I know it's doable now.

Curiously, I have this same configuration on other computers (same Add-ins) and can save Word options with no problems.

hello, when i go into the options menu(bottom of tools menu) in microsoft word 97 sr-1 then i click on the edit tab, nothing shows up in the box, everthing else appears fine in the other tabs, just the edit tab having a problem. running win98. any advice would be great. thanks
PS. just looked at it again and it almost appears as though it has been shifted over to the right. i think this because the dark shadow on the right side of the cancel button and the shadow on about 2 inches of the bottom right side. dunno if this is any help. thanks

When going in File -*> Options -> Display in Word 2010, there is the option to print hidden text that we can check. I would like to know if there is a way to have it checked, other than having to go on every computer to check the option. What I mean is: is there a way to change it using a registry key or by GPO? Searching on the internet for a while didn't give me a good answer.

I have MS Word 2002 on two computers, a desktop and laptop. Laptop is just fine. Desktop now presents a Catch-22 problem.

* The File Menu does not display the list of recently used files. I want to turn it on.
* MS Word Help says to do Tools | Options | General, and then to check the "Recently used files" item, and then enter number of file names to display. Great I can do this on my laptop, just fine.
* Desktop installation = the Options choice on the Tools pulldown is grayed out.

I've looked and looked and haven't found out how/where to turn Options back on.

Can anyone help me out on this?

My suggest:

Do it in a table instead.

Turn your show hide button on.
It looks like a backward P on your toolbar.
Then, Insert-Table and tell it how many columns you want, and just choose 2 rows for now.

In the first row, type your column headings and bold them. In the second row, put your first item. When you hit tab within a table, it will:

a) take to you the next cell to the right
b) create a brand new row for you if you're already in the last cell of the table

Select JUST the text (not the backward Ps at the end of each of your lines, and not the arrows, which represent tabs) and then click and drag them into the appropriate cells of your table.

To get more rows, click in the last cell of your table and hit tab until you get the number of rows you want to work with for now.

If you've got TONS and TONS of items already tabbed the way you previously described, send me your file, and I'll hook you up with the tables in about 5 minutes. But it would take me an hour to tell you how to do it.

Just bought a new tablet pc which came with the newest version of of Word. i am using files created on this laptop with other pc's running word 2000. When i create files on this new laptop i need to save them down to the previous version in order to access them from the other laptops and pc's. There is a third party transformation pack, but I wouldn't recommend using it. The best thing to do is just learn how to use Office 2007.

To save files as Office 97-2003 files, just click the file menu (the very top left button), go to Save As and click the arrow to the right of it, then click on (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) 97-2003 Document.

I have Windows 10 and originally I had a paste options menu popping up each time I pasted so I could decide which format to use. Now the only option I am ever given is Keep Text only. I have tried resetting the default paste settings, but this makes no difference whatsoever. It makes no difference whether I select Paste on the screen or use Control + v on the keyboard. It makes editing documents so much more time consuming. Has anyone else had this problem and succeeded in solving it?

Does any one know why Word 2000 hyperlinking has a nice option to hyperlink a document by just clicking on the folder name(s) and then on the document itself. Outlook (both 2000 and 2002) makes you type in the the complete path and file name such as file\\my documents\helpme.doc. Users just can't do the file name thing. Can Outlook be changed so that hyperling is like word? I have attached a file if you want to see what I am talking about.

I tried it, and unfortunately, it works exactly the same way in my Word 2007. When you've got two pages on the screen, scrolling isn't simultaneous with your finger/hand movement. I would imagine there's no way to get around this.

I have constructed a template form in Word 2007 including MANY drop down boxes. Is there any way to allow the TAB function to access the drop down list without having to use the mouse. Or is that option too complex for Word 2007? I would like users to be able to tab through the document, and either arrow or possibly start typing their choice within the dropdown menu, all without having to leave the keyboard for the mouse.
I have (in the process of creating the form) downloaded the Word 2007 Content Control Toolkit. Would that have the capabilities to help me with this??

I am using word 2000 and printing to a HP laser printer. The problem is the the word document
is split into two sections becasue I want to print one section as Landscape and the other section
as Portrait. The first section is Landscape and the section below it is set for Portrait. The problem
is that when I print the document, the Landscape prints fine but the section set for portrait has
the font stretched and looks nothing like arial or courier or any other font. No matter what font
I change to for the portrait section it always prints like the letters are stretched. Have any ideas
on how I can make this print the way I want it too?

Hi, I prepare large reports in word 2000 live linked excel 2000 data and charts. The documents are fine on screen, but when printing the charts become badly corrupted. If I break the links before printing, the document prints fine.

I suspect it's a memory problem, but the system seems to have plenty available.

Hi, I have a copy of MS Office 2000 running on a windows 98 PC with SR-1 and SP 3 installed. Recently several of the options from the file menu that are normal available became "greyed out" these options are:

Save as
Print Preview

There are equivalent toolbar buttons for some of the above options which work OK.

I have tried unistalling Office used the MS "Office 2000 Eraser" utility (Q239938) then reinstalled office, SR-1 and SP3 but the problem still remains.

This problem can usually be fixed by doing a search for and deleting the "" file. It's the template Word uses when it opens and if it gets corrupted, all sorts of strange things happen. Word cannot be running when you delete the file. It will rebuild a new one next time Word is opened.

A user I'm trying to assist has a problem in Word 2013. All she sees is the File, Tools etc. menus and not her ribbon. This user is currently at home on her desktop so I can't just run over there and fix it for her. I know about the menu option in the upper right corner of the screen that drops down where you can select the "Show Tabs and Commands" option and have communicated as much to her but she doesn't see it (even when I sent her a picture of exactly what it looks like). Thus I was wondering if there was some alternative way to bring the ribbon back, maybe a place to to click/drag or better still a keyboard shortcut that accomplishes the same thing.

You do not need to Reinstall Windows. Go to Start/Search and type CMD, Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing system files.
If you need to boot off of your USB Windows Flash drive, Restart the computer and press F2 to enter Setup (Bios) Here, look for Secure Boot. If it is enabled, using your arrow and Enter key Disable it or change it to Setup Mode. Now go to the Boot tab. Here, if it says UEFI Boot, change it to Legacy. Save and Exit. Now it will recognize your USB Flash drive for installation.
Or you can create a UEFI Boot USB Flash Drive from a Windows ISO with Rufus, in my signature, if you don't want to make any changes to the Bios.

Hey all.

My customer wants to be able to set it so that a bubble is shown when there have been additions and/or deletions in a Compare and Merge output document, instead of just the highlighting/underlining/strike-through. I showed her the options in Tools | Options | Track Changes to specify how it shows these, but she wants bubbles! Bubbles!

The bubble you show is one that you can see if you go in and check "Hidden Text" under Tools, Options, View.
The shape of the bubble, however, is essentially the same as that of a comment.
I made 2 nonsense documents that were almost the same, then ran Compare and Merge to a 3rd document. I inserted comments where there were changes, and then entered information about the changes into the comments.

Oh, and the comment automatically goes to where the end stop is set (based on the margins and your paper size) so you have to reset the margins to get the comments into the page more.

After opening Word 2007 I tried to 'Customize' my Word Options. However, all the options are grayed out except 'Popular'.

I tried 'Repare' - NO LUCK.
I removed Office 2007 and reloading - No Luck

Customizing Excell 2007 and PowerPoint 2007 works just fine.

What's Up With That?

In Word 2003, I don't want the Office Clipboard to pop up every time I do multiple cut-and-pastes, so I set the Clipboard Options accordingly. Specifically, I uncheck "Show Office Clipboard Automatically". Everything is fine until I shut down the computer. The next time I start up my computer and open Word, the "Show Office Clipboard Automatically" option is checked again. Why is this option not persistent?

Hi everyone I have this problem I m creating a form where the user could fill some or all the fields those fields would be use to run a query My problems is I don t know how to do it with out writing a query for each combination that users can use Eg the form has Code Color or Code Color or Code Color City or Zip Date between Date and Date So the user could enter a Code and a color and that is parameter question a given options write Access report 2000 users it and my query would only use those fields But is they choose to enter Code color and Code and Color and City then I need to run a query with those fields But you see I would have to create a query for each combination YIKESS I know there is a better way So I thought on the query to write a IIF IsNull field Like quot quot field But of course did not work Does anyone have a solution for my problem am I way off Appreciate you taking the time to read this and any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks AMD nbsp

In MS Word 2010, under proofing>autocorrect options>autocorrect, Math Autocorrect, etc.
The default replacements are listed. They are things like, (c) is replaced by the copyright symbol etc. In Math Autocorrect for instance if you type in \downarrow, Word replaces that with a down arrow.
Dos anyone know where I can find those default replacements listed anywhere? It is difficult to keep scrolling in the little window that MS Office shows you.

Hi All

I found another thread from Sept 08 where two users had exactly the same problem as I am experiencing in Word 2007. Unfortunately no solution though.

The problem: I am unable to access Word Options other than Popular. The other options are not disabled / grayed out or anything, just nothing happens when you click on them (Addins, trust center etc). And I have uninstalled / re-installed which made no difference.

Also unable to double-click on a Word doc in explorer and have it load in Word - I have to go to Word and open the file from there.

Help appreciated.

When I open Word 2003 on my work machine...(my company has an archiving database/free-standing server system known as 'DocStar')...& a small DocStar Toolbar appears under my regular Toolbars...on a horizontal space all it's own (w/ the remainder of that space empty). I thought...OK, I'll just move it to the end of an existing Toolbar, where it has enough space to squeeze in on the right (& thereby eliminating the need for an almost empty horizontal space at the top of the me more real estate for the documents themselves).

So I did. doesn't stay there after the program closes.

Next time I open Word...there it is again...all by itself.

How can I solve this one?

I have attached a file with the printscreen of the Tools Options dialogue box for Word 2002 on my Laptop. I have used Excel to show the dialogue box because Excel is an acceptable upoload file. My query is not related to Excel but word.

If you have a look at the dialogue box you will see tabs for Asian Typography, Japaneses Find and Complex Scripts.

I was surprised to see theses tabs and am not sure how they got there. Can anybody explain how this has occurred please.

I have AVG and NoAdware and am running under Vista Home Edition. I do not appear to have any viruses.

Will I need to re-install Office 2002?

I have recently reinstalled (via recovery) my 64-bit Win 7 Home premium . Every thing else is fine, except for office 2007. The program was installed successfully but office files didn't show their respective icons. For the first time for every office file (e.g Word or Excel document) I have to chose the program to run the file. Now though on clicking any office file they opened in the respective office program but still their icons are like office is not installed.

The 2nd issue is on the right click new menu the option of new word & excel document is missing. It did try to apply registery solution I found here there but either they don't work or I don't know how to apply them.

Please Help.

First thing to try would be doing a repair on the Office 2007 installation. Typically if you are missing something it may not have completed properly. Just insert the Office 2007 disc, and then select repair. It should go through and fix any issues and install any missing components the previous setup did not complete.

If that does not work, you may need to completely uninstall Office 2007, reboot and then re-install Office. At that point I would recommend a full install or complete install versus the typical install. This will make sure that you are installing all components.

I need to find out why I get kicked off the program when doing spell check in spanish. I am using Office 2000 UK version and I have a full install. It is only my PC. I have a letterhead on a template in MW 2000. I don't want it to appear on pages 2-x, but my only choice is to have it on even or odd pages.
How do I have the letterhead on ONLY the first page??

Create the header or footer for the first page of the document or section.

Does anyone know if it's possible to encrypt or otherwise to keep a document private once created with Word 2000.

You could do a simple password protection while saving the document
1. Save As
2. under Tools, select General Options
3. enter your password in there and you are good to go

You can also password with other software - for example within WinZip ... after you add a file to the archive, look under Options

... don't foget, in technoland, there is always a way to get into files - what you don't want others to see - don't record!

having a really strange problem with word 2000, install go's fine till the end, then the error messege "vbe6.dll failed to register " pops up, click retry, to no avail. click ignore, then open word, and get the error messege " visual basic environment failed to initialize" kinda strange, also, microsoft was totally useless on this..

I have a user that keeps getting the French Dictionary when running Spell Check. English is set to the default language for spell check but for some reason it's checking the document in French. Has anyone seen this before?

No but you can remove the proofing tools by going to -

1. On the Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Office 2000 (or Microsoft Word 2000), and then click Add/Remove.

4. In Maintenance Mode Setup, click Add or Remove Features.

6. Click Proofing Tools (French) and select Uninstall.

Misssing all the upper task/tool bars on word; somehow they disappeared I would like to correct and have them back so please tell me how. Already tried to re-install and this did not work. With Word closed, find the file(s) on your hard drive called and rename it/them to Retry Word.


If First doesn't work, with Word closed, hit Start-Run and type regedit and hit enter. Browse to the following folder, depending on your version, right-click the Word folder and rename it to OldWord.

For Office 97, replace X.X with 8.0
For Office 2000, replace X.X with 9.0
For Office XP, replace X.X with 10.0


One of the above should surely fix it without the need to reinstall.

Hi Everyone,
When a friend of mine opens Word2000 he always has to click on the font button list in order to type a document. When he does this it takes about a minute and then everything works fine. You cant use word untikl you do this. He has a Compaq, Win98SE, And 64 MB of ram. I think it is not enough Ram but I need expert help!

First, have him clean up his hard drive with the following instructions:

Third, that's a registry fix you'll find if you search for "regedit" here in the Office forum, and make sure you find the one for Word (as I recall there aren't many others) or I'll post it again if you need it.

In Word 2000 9.0.2720 I continually receive error message Word has insufficient memory when trying to do pretty much anything, such as; opening a document, saving and so forth. I recently installed 256 mb of ram in this computer and ever since then I get this error.

Hi Guys,
I am creating a booklet for a college assignment, using Word 2000. I have split the page into 2 columns, left half for the back cover and right half for the front cover. and created a new file for the inside of the document.
I have used a column break as well. But what I want to do is to create a frame around the front cover and the back cover, so I can then put some info inside it to make it look a bit more professional. I have tried, but I just get the frame around the whole page and not around the separate columns.
Any ideas how to get around this?

I have a problem with autotexing in Word 2000, a document has been created, with Macros and copied to a machine, and it works fine, it has then been copied onto a further computer, which has the same specification and programs and on this one it takes approx. 4 minutes to open and close, it was suggested to change the files extension which initially solved the problem, but the autotext no longer works, if this is copied across again, the same problem persists.
If autotext is created directly onto this machine it also works fine, it is just having a problem with the file that is transfered to it.
Does anyone know if there is a solution or if there are problems with coping autotexted documents to other computers?
I appreciate any help.

You can copy autotext from one template to another by opening the first (your) template, then hit Tools-Templates and Add-ins and select the Organizer button. Click on the autotext tab. On the left will be your template, on the right you will see Copy the autotext entries from the left over to the right.
