Outlook - Address Book link with Contacts

Q: Outlook - Address Book link with Contacts

I sync Outlook with a Tungsten E. My Address Book is completely empty, even though it seems to be looking in the right area of Contacts. What to do?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, My first post here

I really need some help I purchased a new WD My Book 4tb and have all my videos and pictures on this drive - I have always disconnected the drive properly but tonight when I connected to the laptop I get the following message;

I cant access the drive to see if any of the files are there or not

I have not done anything other than click on the drive yet as I don't want to do anything wrong I have so much on here I don't want to lose. Thanks

A:WD My Book 4tb External USB Crashed

You've already messed up by keeping only 1 copy of important files :/

Is H the typical drive letter designation for that drive? I assume it is what you expected since you tried to open it. Can you take a screenshot of what Disk Management looks like with the drive on and connected?

Have you tried a different USB cable or tried it on a different computer?

So this is my first time making a forum post since 169.xx ip address working, Ethernet not I am not desperate because nothing I ve tried has worked So two weeks ago I had an electrical surge in my house on my desktop the ethernet port on the motherboard died so I sent Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address back my motherboard to have that fixed Now that I have it back I tried getting my ethernet to work though now the Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address connection properly works as in Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address the local area connection is now at least recognized I still have no internet access I just tried reinstalling Windows bit fresh install after I wiped everything My ethernet adapter is called Realtek PCIe GBI Family controller I have a E Linksys router and a Comcast modem I tried plugging the ethernet cable into each other but no luck Currently I m attempting to at least make the desktop use the modem internet directly I seem to be sending packets but not receiving them when I looked in the Status of the Local Area Connection in network connection details I have an autoconfiguration ipv of xxx xxx ipv subnet mask and nothing in the ipv default gateway dns server or wins server and no ipv default gateway I ve tried many things too many to name now but I am willing to try anything you guys mention and post the appropriate data or logs just tell me what it is you would like to see Any help would be highly appreciated nbsp

A:Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address

Anytime you see 169.x.y.z, that's the clue that your DHCP request to the router did not get an answer.

DHCP should return an IP address directly related to your router's address and two DNS addresses.

search the form for DHCP - - I've posted a solution here on TS.

I don't know if this is an issue or if it's normal. My brother and I play mmorgs together and share an internet connection. We recently upgraded to a faster modem with router built in and when we signed into the game, we got a messaged stating we were signing in from a different IP address. It showed the old address and the new address, but it wasn't our actual IP address, it was the DNS address of our Internet service provider. And the address was the same for both of our computers. Wouldn't this cause some problems if we're playing under the same address. I find I get d/c'd from the game if I just stand around and do nothing. I get a message "Global Allocation Error". I 've researched this and still can't find anything about it that makes any sense to me. Was wondering if it was because of the IP address being the ISP's DNS address?

A:IP address is DNS address

That's probably just your inside and outside IP address. Your home gets an 'outside' IP address which will be the same for every device connected. Inside your home, every device will get an 'inside' address like 192.168.0.5 and 192.168.0.6.

Good morning y'all,

I was wondering if the wireless router I use is up to the modern day demands. This is the router: http://www.cnet.com/products/d-link-wbr-2310-rangebooster-g-wireless-router/specs/

There are 3 iPads, 4 iPhones, a couple laptops, two Apple TV's and an iMac that have regular contact with it at the same time. I noticed that it is only capable of band G wifi, would this be an issue considering the modern devices being used on it? I should note that Wightmans Ultra package is what feeds the router. Speed tests show around 1.1-1.8mb download speed.

I appreciate any advice, thanks!

A:D Link WBR 2310

Launch your Taskmgr and set Show Processes for All Users.

Click the Process Tab and then the Resource Monitor (you'll then have two windows)
using the Overview Tab, collapse all four so you only see the header for each of
{CPU, Disk, Network, Memory}

Click on the Taskmgr Networking Tab, scroll to see the Local Lan or Wireless

Now let'r rip on all your systems

You can see the network traffic and evaluate it for saturation - - what's that?
TCP tops out between 70-75% utilization. If you'r no where near that - - then save your money

Hi all

Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place, so please move if need be.

I have a VPN for connecting to my work server, but we've recently changed our ISP and with it our static IP address. I need to connect to copy some files over today but don't know what the new IP address is. Is there any way I can find this out remotely, or would I have to be on that network to find it?

Thanks in advance

A:Static IP Address Changed

My guess is if you don't know the IP or Domain Name, you would need to be on that network. If you know either of the two, you could cross reference them.

I have a 2TB My Book Live that I and my housemates use to store media. Initially I was the primary contributor to the drive, and at that time there were no issues. Eventually, someone else began adding files to the server. Since then, any folder that someone else has added files to cannot be accessed by me unless I am logged in as a guest. If I log in as an administrator the folders show up but are greyed out. This only happened with one user. I am running a Mac, and they were using Windows, but other Windows users have added files without causing this issue. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if anyone knows of a workaround other than always logging out as administrator when I want to access those folders.

Thanks for any help

I have wireless connection on my laptop and also have a desktop computer in same internet connection. When I check my systems IP address from http://whoisthisip.com this site, it shows the same IP address for both laptop & desktop. why?

A:Same IP Address Why?

Because it is reporting the ip-address give your router by the ISP. The whole point for have a router is to create a LAN where each computer/device has a unique ip address that is then mapped on the public WAN address - - this is the NAT feature

Some shares on my 3+3 my book live duo RAID1 are no more accessible, they are shown as 0 bytes. It seems that the share table was corrupted, nevertheless the data are there (ther is still the right used space on the disk)
I spent two months exchanging mails with the WD support and the only suggestion I received was to reset the system and loose the data.
otherwise I could access one of the disks directly but neither windows neiter linux can read the disk (they cannot even mount it).
first a complain: why I should spend a lot of money to have reliable disks in raid1 configuration if a bug in a proprietary software can fool my efforts.

Ok, firstly you need to access the administrator settings. So we have a server at one of the places I work that is a domain controller and DNS server website domain server controller pointing DNS to of instead address as well as an smtp server The domain is named companyname com The website is you guessed it companyname com Now why they set this up like this I don t know but because they have every now DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address and then the DNS server decides to point companyname com to the domain controller and ignore the fact that I have a www Host A record pointing to the web server s external IP address and a record saying DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address that DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address companyname com should also point to the web server s address The problem seems to stem from that when the server reboots for updates it of course forces the DNS server records to update and it puts an entry in there that contradicts my static records with the domain controller s local address in for companyname com Can I force it NOT to put a certain entry in there or rather not update a certain entry that it has in there Or can I force it to treat my static records as primary I m fairly new to this as I ve not dealt with this issue before and I m out of ideas nbsp

A:DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address

Hmm; for the External DNS accessible to the web

create a CNAME for www.company.name
create another for dns.company.name.
each pointing to unique IP addresses
this dns ONLY supports publicly available services; NOTHING internal

the Domain Controller should have a SEPARATE DNS, internal to the LAN, not accessible to the Web.
Internal users configured to -> internal DNS which performs recursive lookup to your ISP's DNS.

I am trying to assign my printer the same IP address using DHCP reservation. It should be simple. Under dynamic clients I choose the printer (an HP8500) and choose reserve.

Answering myself here....

After weeks of fooling with this off and on, I seem to have hit on an unexpected solution. I bypassed DHCP for that client only. Now that it has a fixed IP addres, it's solid, and has been for several hours. I'm keeping fingers and eyes crossed that it stays stable, but it's already exceeded the best of previous performance. That change shouldn't matter, since DHCP is working fine for other wireless clients in my network (3 of them), but there ya go.

A:Hide IP Address?

Firstly, there's no foolproof way of making yourself "invisible" online. While Tor can give upto 90% masking, it's often slow and still not safe enough. But there are a few things you can do:
1) Follow the EFF's top 12 ways.
2) Refer to the Surveillance Self-Defense manual for complete satisfaction.
3) For computer specific solutions, look here.

Hi I m new so hopefully I give you enough info to help me I bought a an IP address Printer does have not Brother new Brother printer MFC- DN Brother Printer does not have an IP address and connected it first to a Mac and then to my PC I can t get the wireless to work and it s too late to return it but it is under a year if I need to use the warranty I do not have an IP address I have been through ALL of the troubleshooting on their site I have reset the Network settings a million times and printed the Network Config page a million times as well Dramatized My printer works flawlessly when connected and I have the correct drivers I can access the printer settings from their software while connected without a problem Here is what the Network Config page says Node type Brother NC- h Ethernet BASE-TX Node Firmware Version Firmware Ver IP Address Subnet mask IP Gateway Boot method Auto Boot Tries IP Filter Disabled Under Protocols They all say Enabled except IPv and LLTD Those are both disabled Also when I go through the settings on the printer itself Network- gt Status- gt Inactive There is more but it s a lot to type so please let me know if you need anything else off that page I have also tried to set the IP address myself I put in because I read that was the default for Brother printers that did not work I also set the Subnet mask to while I tried that How do I make this work It s driving me crazy All I want to do is use Google cloud print and be able to be in my bedroom with my laptop and print No other Brother printer I ve had in the past has had this issue but I always connect them to my PC first DAMN MY MAC I think that s how this happened nbsp

A:Brother Printer does not have an IP address

One more thing I tried

I just went into the Printer control menu on my computer and went to "Properties" as the Administrator. Under the heading Port. I picked a port that was not being used. It is called a "Standard TCP/IP Port" and it's IP is 192.168.1.17
I thought this would be ok because another Brother printer I don't have trouble connecting to is using one of the other similar ports.

So then I changed the IP address of my Brother printer to this.. Still isn't working but now when I go back to that spot, my printer's model number is showing up and I feel like I might be getting somewhere, just need a little more info.

A:IP address conflict found

this kind of error is frequently caused by malconfiguration of a static IP address.

First start by making ALL systems attached to your router use DHCP. This will ensure
that the conflict can not occur

Now IF you need a static address, then use the Address Reservation feature in the router;
You need the MAC address of the system to have a static IP address,
to restrict the DHCP range to a small set of numbers, say 2-20, and
the Reserver systemX to an IP address like x.30 (ie above the DHCP range).

If you have not already tried, just set a static IP address. That should possibly get it to work for a temp fix. The problem also may be a DHCP/DNS issue which I have had in the past. cant remember how I fixied it though. These days when I get a 169 IP the IP release and renew command has fixed the problem.

as dhcp ONLY serves to autoconf the client and you've setup static settings, actually you are DONE. The caveat of course is that you would like (I hope) to have one point of control from the DC side. Let's see ...

Using DHCP issued from a 2wire ADSL router
Default DHCP configuration
IP Address Range 10.0.0.1 -> 10.0.0.99
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 10.0.0.138 << atypical here but valid; normally the router is the gateway
.....................................................and it would be at 10.0.0.1 and the dhcp range 2-100

However this computer has been issued with
IP Address 120.151.90.99
Subnet 255.255.255.248
Default Gateway 120.151.90.98
DHCP Server 10.0.0.138
DNS Server 10.0.0.138Click to expand...

one would hope the DNS would be on your DC or a public ISP; sure bizarre.
(there's a remote chance of something else, but let's defer that discussion for now)

Normally, the client BROADCASTS on x.x.x.255 port 68 and gets back
the DHCP address and proceeds from there.

=== that leads to this issue Node Type = = =

get Regedit
go to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters
set DhcpNodeType = 1 (if not found create a REG_DWORD and get the spelling and case as shown)
set NodeType = 8 (same comment " " )

Looks like the client has junk in the static config.
Use View Network Connections (on the ailing system) right-click Local Lan->Properties
scroll to Tcp/IP, click properties
On the General Tab, click both Obtain xxx Automatically and ensure everything else is empty.
Click the Advance button at the bottom
* IP settings tab: shows DHCP Enabled; default gateway is empty [x] auto metric
* DNS tab: everything empty and [x] Append primary & connection specific DNS suffixes
* WINS tab: at the bottom; NetBios setting [x] Default
.... you decide the WINS and Enable LMHOSTS lookup for your DC
* Options tab: shows TCP/IP filtering; click properties button
.... [x] all three Permit All

Click OK three times to get back to the top, click close

get a command prompt (start->run->cmd (using admin of course)
enter

ipconfig /flushdns
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"
(yes, keep the quotes)

disconnect this system from the lan and wait 30 seconds and then reconnect
wait another 30 seconds and rerun /ipconfig /all

the Node Type should show up as Hybrid

Internet still works but network drive access doesn't.Click to expand...

because it is on the WRONG subnet

Hello to start with here is a list.

Router 1 (wired from modem) : IP 192.168.1.1
Router 2 (wireless): IP 192.168.2.1

I am trying to get these two routers to see each other while keeping the IP Addresses, Router 1 is the main router, which I want to keep at 192.168.1.1 Router 2 is a wireless one which I also wanted to keep at 192.168.2.1

How do I get computers on the 192.168.2.1 to see the computers and shared files on the 192.168.1.1

Any help anyone can give, I would be most grateful, thank you

A:How to link two routers?

the physical wiring would look like this

Code:

modem---(wan.side)router#1(lan.side)--- wired or wifi connected systems
|
+---(lan.side)[B]router#2[/B](lan.side) - - other systems
Note that router#2 wan slot is left empty.

Be sure to disable the DHCP service on router#2 and this will then leave router#1
as the master and in control of the whole network

first, get a command prompt and enter IPCONFIG

the last line shown as the Default address is your router's address.

If that's the address you already attempted, then

download LSPFIX,
install and run from an ADMIN login, reboot the system and then try accessing your router again.

Hi,

Can you help me guide on "Port Forwarding"? I tried to access my router and added ports to forward as I've seen other guides here on the net, but when I check it with "PFportchecker" Software, it said my port is not open or unreachable.

My router is D-Link DI-604.

Please Help!=(

A:D-Link DI-604 port forwarding

there's a difference between an Open Port and having access to a service On That Port.

Requirements:
the machine which has the desired program (or better said, service) must have a fixed IP address, not one assigned by DHCP
the router then forwards port xxx to that fixed address
the firewall on the target system must allow incoming traffic on that port(s)
AND the program/service must be running.
then and only then will a probe like PFportchecker find it 'open'

A:IP address conflict on network when laptop tries to connect to it

Thank you so much

I am using MAC address filtering and the list consists 4 addresses, a printer, a PSP, the laptop and my desktop. I was trying to make my Router have a Static IP address but I couldn't find out how to do it. When i Set up the MAC address filtering list the laptop was connected to the router and it gave me the pc name and MAC address, so i don't think that it's a typo.

Furthermore which method is safer DHCP Reservation or Static IP against use by others who shouldn't use it. I also have a question that If i change the TCP/IPv4 to use one IP that I've assigned does that make it fully static. and am i right in saying that having static IP's that are different would mean no conflicts between them. But when i tried this it said I have changed the IPv4's on my desktop and laptop to different addresses.

Before I explain the problem thank you to anyone willing adapter address Powerline invalid IP problem to help me sort out this mess I have been at it for hours and have come up with nothing About Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem years ago I purchased the Linksys PLK Powerline Adapters to give internet access to an Xbox and PC in a room where wireless connection was slightly cold They worked exceptionally up until just last week I was surfing the web when I noticed that the Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem internet went down and it has been down ever since The adapters are properly plugged in it appears as if nothing is wrong with them- LEDs still flashing and the Xbox and Computer recognize their presence but they won t connect to the web The router still sends out a wireless signal strong as ever I have tried restarting both modem and router I have checked to see if the MAC addresses are conflicting I have made sure that there is no security to mess it up and I have also made sure that any IP address can access my network I have done just about everything I can think of to make this work Before anyone delays their ideas waiting for an IPCONFIG ALL post from me I have already made sure DHCP and Auto Configuration are enabled and I have no idea what ipconfig renew and ipconfig release or whatever it was do but I did that too The computer from the offline room gives me an IP address of indicating no connection to DHCP not totally sure about the DHCP but it definitely means no connection I have both adapters plugged straight into wall sockets not on the same socket as the modem router and am getting frustrated without the internet in this room so if you have any idea what could possibly be the problem I would greatly appreciate it nbsp

A:Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem

The computer from the offline room gives me an IP address of 169.254, indicating no connection to DHCP (not totally sure about the DHCP but it definitely means no connection.)Click to expand...

Yes that's the issue; that address will not exit your LAN and it is the DHCP failure that generated this address.

Verify that both ends of the Powerline Adapter work locally.
the Master is already attached to your router, so bring the remote device into the same room and plug it into a wall outlet there. Now test - -

I installed a d-link 2310 wireless router but did not see an option to create a password. The disk no longer works and I am not able create a password to keep neighbours from accessing and using my internet connection. Can you help?

A:Creating a D-Link password

forget the CD - - doesn't do squat for this issue.

1) access the router using your browsera) use only a wired connection'
the default address for Dlink is: [B]http://192.168.0.1[/B]
the default user/pwd is: admin/ <leave it blank>
2)once inside, set a new Admin Password and save it. This will restart the router and disconnect you from it - - just log back in
3) now go set the WiFi SSID and encryption as required

I need a pocket sized address book that can sync with WinXP. Any other tasks the device can do are a plus (and might help me choose). What device has a good address book that could be seen as a Rolodex replacement? Most things like this I've found seem to only be compatible with Windows 200 or older. I don't want my phone loaded up with my work contacts but I want that info easy to access. The most important thing would be the ability to look up the business name and find the names of the people there and other notes about them and the business. Any suggestions?

Two days ago, I took my personal laptop off of standy by and tried to connect to my home wireless network. It connected, but I did not get any Internet access. I tried restarting my computer, nothing. I tried resetting my router, nothing. I tried resetting my hub, nothing. Three other computers connect to this network regularly (my dad's, my school laptop, and my sister's laptop) and they have not had any trouble. My Xbox can also connects with no problems. I have reset my TCP/IP and still nothing. I have tried connecting to the router by hardwire and that also does not work. Does anybody have any suggestions?

A:HP laptop will not obtain an IP address

If it connects to the network but not to the internet, try making sure the gateway IP is correct. I've always manually configured my TCP/IP connection IPs, and unless you have the correct gateway IP, the computer doesnt know where to get internet from. (The gateway IP will be the IP of your router)
If you need help manually configuring your IPs, let me know, otherwise, good luck

This is my first post and I want to begin by saying that I am not very tech savvy although I am the default computer quot expert quot yikes causes working stop IP to changing on its address printer own in our house as my husband has never used a computer The problem I am having is that IP addresses within our wireless network are changing on their own quite frequently This causes the network printer to stop working Interestingly sometimes the IP addresses switch ie the IP address for my laptop changes to the IP address that the printer had last week etc I know this to be true because I have a quot cheat sheet quot of steps I follow from Brother our printer IP address changing on its own causes printer to stop working manufacturer which includes the steps of obtaining the IP address for the computers and the printer on the network and then pinging the printer I have recorded the IP address on that sheet for each computer and printer IP address and I am constantly having to cross them out and change them Is this frequent IP address change normal Is there a way to establish permanent IP addresses If not or if that isn t desirable is there some way to stop the constant effects it has on the network printer Thank you for your help with this issue nbsp

Yes this can be resolved two ways
Address reservation and Static IP address assignment.

The former is much easier but I need the make/model number of your router to give HOW-TO details - - -

This pci card is about 5 years old, Microsoft does list this card compatible for Windows 7, however it was a recent update yet I cannot find drivers for windows 7, it will list 1.20 as the correct drivers but these are the old drivers and amused myself by testing anyways..

What I am worried about and my question:

I was testing it on my machine before taking it today and installing it on a friends new system to setup a wireless internet. The indicator light does come on like on any NIC, however the machine does not show the new hardware anywhere, not under device manager so I don't know why this is.

concerned, is it safe to install on the other machine, I don't want it to be faulty and cause some damage! anyways his system will be running WinXP which should be fine..

any idea

is the card faulty even though the NIC indicator light blinks yet is not seen by windows 7. use to be on the same machine so hardware it will work with but was working on a XP system.

well, i let me begin with a general background. i'm on a wired network. the computer i use most of the time uses windows xp 32 bit software, but i will soon upgrade to windows 7 software, 32 bit again. 32 bit is preferred over 64 bit since alot of older games i play run only on 32 bit systems.

anyway, if i wish to change my ip address, should i change out the motherboard? or is the ip address assigned through the network. the router has a static ip address, i believe. so, when i ping my ip address, i am reading the router ip?

i guess i am just a little confused with the whole ip address thing. thanks for the help guys!

A:IP address questions

There should be no necessity to change the IP address.

The MB does not contribute to creating the LAN Side address you see with ipconfig /all

Lan address: Is assigned by the DHCP service in your router, OR from a static IP configuration on the NIC. Etherway, your Lan - IP is not visible nor accessible from the Internet.

WAN address: is assigned by your ISP OR from the domain.name registration process. This is the address for ALL of the systems attached to your router. The NAT feature of the router keeps it all straight.

A:Limited no connectivity unable to renew IP address

You have a computer that appears to be sic years old... after six years, several components are often damaged... especially the hard drive.
Do you have the software to format and install a new hard drive?
What is your configuration...
And HP Presario should be a Compaq Presario... I would borrow a computer to download all the drivers, or get somebody to download them for you. If you don't have install disks, you can buy them from HP via a phone call... if they have any left.
When is the last time your computer worked properly and what happened to apparently make it stop working properly.
Do you have a friend who is tech smart to help you take a look at the computer and its components?

I have a significant problem with my computers not recognizing my d-link router. I screwed something up today and now my router won't work. I have had the router for years working just fine, but today I was trying to connect a new kindle which wouldn't connect to the Wi-Fi and I lost the router after screwing around with configuration.

Basically I've been trying to re-install the router, I changed the SSID but it appears the d-link quick router setup software recognizes the modem as the router and won't re-intall my router thus denying me access. Has anyone ever ran into a situation such as this? Please help...

A:D-Link Software recognizing modem as Router, router not working

Find the reset switch (usually a smal hole and you press a paper clip into it for ~5sec).

That will bring it back to day-1 default settings.

Unless you are attaching to the modem/router using USB, there's no software to be installed
(that's only used for USB) - -
just cable the eithernet cable to a LAN port on the router and then you can configure it

I recently removed some malware from my computer (winxp sp3) but it seems to have left something corrupted. I can no longer connect with wlan, it will hang on 'waiting for the network to be ready' this is becuase I have an invalid IP address. Reseting the winsock does not solve it. Windows diagnostics says the winsock is corrupted but after reseting.. nothing. Also windows firewall will no longer start the ics service. I attach part of the windows diagnostics log, could anyone help me with making sense of it?

A:Trouble connecting. Invalid IP address

Check that the device settings for the network interface have not been set to a fixed IP address - go to control panel > network connections > select your device > right click > properties > double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP) and set the two obtain IP and DNS values automatically.
Reboot to reset the system

A:Can't connect to Internet DHCP and renewing IP address issue

Are you using broadband? Wired or wireless?
If you're using a router and you know its IP address you can try manually giving an IP address to your PC but it has to be in the same range as your router. That is if your router's IP is 192.168.1.1 then you'll have to specify something like 192.168.1.2 to your PC.

You may want to try taking a look here too.

A:IP address won't renew without restarting computer

What router or routers are you connecting too? Just to confirm this happens to you if your using a wireless or wired connection? Does your network administrator at your work know your using your laptop? Does this only occur at work?

Just thinking out loud until more info is given:
It sounds like the other computers on your network connect and disconnect often, however your laptop is the only computer having trouble reconnecting. The router may be setup to assign identification numbers (for lack of better word) to each computer that connects to it. Duplicates assigned numbers with other computers can cause this. But if your laptop is the only one experiencing other problems then I doubt it.

A:Anybody else have problems with D-Link wireless?

wireless setup is ALWAYS done first using a wired connection. changing the router any other way is suicidal.

First set the router default address & DHCP range (2-20).
You may need to use the Masquerade setting and copy the Mac address of the PC (or Mac) as many ISPs use that to verify you are a customer.

Then do the WiFi settings
SSID
channel
change the admin login password and save the settings
(which WILL disconnect you and restart the router).

Now you can use the WiFi Connection wizard to connect to your router.

Once it's working correctly, go back into the router and enable the encryption feature and sett a passphrase.

No magic bullet I m afraid. A few things to check:-

Do any usb devices work ?

Do the drive configure ok - on a another PC

Bear in mind that detection on some USB devices - can take a while, - this may be worse on a older or slower computer.

I would give the computer a good clean with CC cleaner - and malware bytes - both free downloads

maybe try a fresh os install as Last resort

Hi everyone. There are several threads that are available for help with reseting a Dell D620's bios password here. And I understand they have all be closed b/c all the information has already been discussed. But within those threads all the links to the dstcd.iso are dead now. Would anyone have or could point me to a working download for that file? Google came back with shady links that I rather not use so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Dstcd.iso Link is dead, need help with Dell BIOS password rest

There really isn't a valid solution. The D620 is unusually difficult to impossible for password repair, and the idea was chewed for a year. Solutions that supposedly work are perhaps illegal and certainly dangerous. They turned out to be a good source for malware and infestations without being helpful. All the solutions are as expensive as replacing the system board or the computer.

Hi I'm running vista 64, home premium and have recently purchased a WD 1TB network drive.

Now everytime I go to restart, put my computer into sleep or hibernate mode it hangs at the shutdown screen in vista. Only when I disconnect the external HDD and turn it off does my computer go back to normal.

I checked the removal policy from the HDD under the device manager and optimized for performance is checked. I can't get access to change it to optimize for quick removal. Does anyone know how to change the removal policy so it doesn't cause vista to hang?

Or does anyone know what might be causing this?

A:Western Digital My Book 1TB Network HDD- hangs on shutdown

It is probably a good idea to shut down the HDD before shutting down the computer. It sounds like the drive is "writing back" how have you got your back-up settings? Auto Backup write\save to the WD 1Tb? There may be a way to hang-up the HDD on shut down/hibernate but this may corrupt it! in "Computer Management" - "Services and Applications" - "Services" but I don't have an external or WD drive so cannot get you any closer to this action --which I don't recommend anyway. Is there any info on the HDD enclosure\docking station at the manufacturer site?

Don't rely on these routers with USB support for external USB devices. The only one that would do is the DIR-685

http://www.dlink.com/products/default.aspx?pid=DIR-685

Reason being is that this one has it's own chip for storage about 300MHz. See the other one depend on the processor in the router to handle the task. Those tend to be really slower. You could connect WD USB Passport or Element to one and see how slow it would be over the network.

Really need MFG/Model number of the modem AND the router (if you have separate devices),

but, get a command prompt (run->cmd) and enter ipconfig /all
the gateway address will be the IP address of the router.

launch your browser and enter http:// followed by the gateway address followed by a / (slash)

you should get the router login screen

Buy and get a repeater with dual ANT 50mW or greater. All you have to do is configure it via hardwire cable then plug it into AC socket anyway you have the weak signal starting from. No need to run any LAN cables to it. Since it's 100% wireless repeater. Since you have G just get 802.11g repeater like this one from Amazon has ERB9250 11N 300MB 11N Range Extender Removable Antenna 1 10/100

Hi The place that me and my wife rent comes with a free wifi connection from my landlord They own a Netgear wndr router that is connected to the internet The router is next door and does not reach to the other side of the house where my office is I have a Linksys Router wrt g What I would like to do is be able to link the two routers together wireless as they will be in different buildings so that the computers in and a together? link a Netgear I Can Linksys router my office will connect Can I link a Netgear and a Linksys router together? to Can I link a Netgear and a Linksys router together? the internet Im not sure if that means that I will need to get a bridge to link the two together or not But I will also need to use port forwarding to open up ports that I will need for my small server Ive been searching the internet forums and just cant seem to find anyone in the same boat as me and would love to find out a way to make this all work out Thanks nbsp

A:Can I link a Netgear and a Linksys router together?

What does your landlord said about doing that? You should have him cough-up the the extra Repeater (100% wireless device) no need to use a router in this situation) This way you and the wife and anyone else in that second of the building can access the internet if you're getting a weak spot in your apartment?

Hi,

Details:
1. Using XP Pro SP3 (32-bit)
2. Laptop = Sony VAIO VGN-FZ140E
3. Recently purchased a TP-Link Router (TL-WR740N) which claims to give 150 Mbps speed

The Problem:
When connected, my Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN shows a speed of only 65 Mbps . A friend came over with his laptop (having Windows 7) and was able to get 150 Mbps speed.

Can someone please help me fix the problem so that I can also get the same speed. Do I need to upgrade the driver? If so how and from where? Or maybe the solution is much simpler? Please help. Will be very thankful.

A:TP-Link Router not giving 150 Mbps

Measured by 65MBps correct for you. The range varies. Could be 120mbps or 130mbps. If the router is one of those N150 they're really enhanced G in N mode. Kind of confusing but the chipset is suppose to 150mbps but actually speed would be 1/2 that 65-75mbps. Don't go by Link Speed it's Quality of that counts. 300Mbps 802.11n is 120-150mbps. But it can go lower to 65mbps. Again varies.

The problem is when go to "http://www.ip-adress.com/" i find my ip address changing . i wana make it fixed . how can i ?

I wana do this because i have an ftp site (and iam sharing it) . every time the ip address changes , i need to go and i change my share link. that's tiring

Please help

A:Static ip address

static addresses have two perspectives
WAN side; your public IP from the ISP
LAN side; addresses managed by your router
What you did was part(2)
To solve the WAN side, you need to

purchase a domain name and get your ISP to support the newly assigned address
OR use dyndns.com to follow the dynamic public address from your ISP

Hi apologies if this is in the wrong forum cant seem to find one that fits Right here s the background so you understand My new company has just given me a nice smart samsung omnipro PDA This has been setup sync Active contacts of sets 2 to sync with the works exchange Active sync 2 sets of contacts server via GPRS and download my mail contacts etc etc However i am still with my old company for the next few days and on their exchange server i have stored in my contacts about years worth of phone numbers of pretty much everyone i have needed to speak to Now im not leavng the old company as such the of them have partnered up so i need the phone numbers of about of them I access my exchange for the old company through Outlook using a secure HTTPS connection this means that i can see and edit my contacts mail etc etc i can only access my new company via an web based version of outlook Ok here s the problem having setup a partnership with my laptop via active sync it sees my outlook account and the PDA shows both the laptop account and the work account But if i sync to outlook on my laptop and thus get my old works contacts then when i try to change it to also then get my new company contacts via the GPRS connection activesync deletes the existing contacts In other words i cant sync both sets of contacts as doing one deletes the other I am sure there is an answer to this but i cant seem to find it nbsp

I just assembled a Pentium 4 rig with ASUS mobo P4S800D-X and apparently I am having internet connection issue with wired connection. I am connecting through a router and all internet connection are test to work fine with my other computer. I was able to connect wirelessly using a USB internet adapter. It is just the wired connection that is not functioning. I have consulted with ASUS tech support and at first they told me to uninstall the network adapter and reinstall and still problem not solved. Then they said could be a TCP/IP stack issue so they told me to download the SP3 and still issue not resolved.

Does anyone have any issue similar to this that can help me figure out this weird problem?? Thanks.

A:Unable to acquire network address with wired connection

I would first try updating the driver for your network card, and then try a different card altogether.

My wireless router suddenly stopped working yesterday. None of the 4 computers that were using that router are able to connect to the internet any more. All of the computers say they are getting an "Excellent" signal, but non are able to bring up a web page. The day before this happened we had an additional cable box added to our house and the cable guy said he "rewired" our cable. I don't think he went in the room where the router is. Don't know if what he did could have had any affect on our current problem, but I would really love to have our internet back!!! Any help would be fantastic. Thanks!
PS I called the cable company and they said there is no problem with the modem. When you plug the ethernet cord directly into the computer the internet works fine.

Why? What did he add to the wiring?

my guess is you have a different box between the modem and the original WiFi router.

what are the make/ model numbers of the modem and every box leading to ( & including) the wifi router.

You will need the Admin/Password to the router and I suspect we need to set the IP masquerade address

My neighbor and I want to have access to each others files. I thought of linking our routers together so that way we would be on the same network. We each have different ISP and live door to door. Our houses are fairly close, so there shouldn't be any problem with distance. We have a wife and kids, and everyone has a laptop. Is there a way we can link up without buying a server?

A:Link 2 wireless routers w/ 2 different ISP

BE CAREFUL!

The obvious method would be File/Sharing,
but you would expose both systems to the whole internet
(it requires ports 139+445 to be open on both systems to the WAN side )

Get a second NIC for each system and connect them together
a) wired or b) wireless using a new Access Point or WiFi router on one or the other system.

You should BOTH get a bidirectional Firewall so that ports 139+445 are open only on the second NIC addresses

Good evening. I was hoping that someone would be able to help me access the security code that I had encrypted my router with. I lost the code and have tried calling d-link to no avail. I tried entering th ip address for the router and it is asking for passwords (that I forgot).

A:D-link DI-524 router forgot password

How ironic, I've presently got the same issue

What I'm going to do, is use a pin (or pen) and push and hold the little reset button in (I think its 5 secs on mine)
The reset button will be located on the router somewhere (look closely, mines at the back)
Anyway, you will obviously need your Username and password for the Internet to be put back in the settings area, again (in the router)

A:D-link router won't setup to internet. Cable modem alone works though

Hi;
I think I know what your problem is.

You need to reboot both the cable modem and the router, but it needs to be in this order:

Unplug power from both devices.

Re-check that all data cables are properly connected.

Wait at least 30 seconds

Re-connect power to he router ONLY

Wait for the router to complete boot (usually about 10 seconds or so)

Re-connect power to the cable modem, and wait for it to complete boot.

Router should indicate it had WAN connection, and cable modem should indicate that it has all connections.

Re-check your browser.

If this does not work, re-post. I have more steps, but I think this is all you will have to do.

The reason for this re-booting process is that when power is removed from the router, the cable modem tends to forget the address of the router.
The router needs to be fully booted before the cable modem is powered up, so that it will find the router.

I have always had to follow this procedure after a power outage.
I have cable modem from Cablevision (Optonline) in New Jersey.

Hope this works for you.

I am new to Exchange Server 2003 and I have a friend with a network server that I don't know how to re-establish a user to the network. I moved one of his non used computers to this station and now when I try to log in the user I get the error that the name can't be verified because Outlook is not connected or online. This computer used to be online with a different user. Can anyone tell me the steps to check this? Thanks.

You would benefit from the server handbook or an outlook manual... too much to explain here in usable terms, methinks.
