I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is only acount 2 Outlook - inboxes 2010 1 email similar to other threads about inboxes in Outlook but the solutions there have not worked for me I am having difficulty with Outlook under Windows Ultimate Outlook was working fine in Win Xp but not since I Outlook 2010 - 2 inboxes only 1 email acount i installed Win Ultimate I rebuilt my Pc from scratch with Windows Ultimate having backed all the data outlook data Outlook 2010 - 2 inboxes only 1 email acount files and Favorites When I installed Office and ran Outlook for the first time it took me thorugh the process of setting up my single email account The worked fine and a test email arrived as expected Then I tried to import my backup up Outlook pst file and got the message that I did not have access tot his file SO i quit Outlook and Outlook 2010 - 2 inboxes only 1 email acount copied the Outlook pst file to the location replacing the outlook pst file that was there I ran outlook again and the old Personal Folder appeaed complete with all my old files calendar etc etc However there were two inboxes called my email address All new received and sent email arrived here whereas my old files were in the Personal folder Ok after exploring changing the email details and exploring changing the data files only to find the personal data file was the default and there was no way I could change it SO I copied all my folders from the Personal Folder to the new folder whose title was my email address This was time consuming and slow but I eventually got all the files across on this new quot personal quot folder I though well this was OK but then received a warning message from my ISP say my email folder had exceeded its quota SO I quit excel and went in web email and what I found was startling When I coped all the files across the new personl folder title quot my email address quot the entire sub folder and all the emails were created on the server - OPTUSNET COM AU No wonder I had exceed the quota on the server OK so I will transfer the files back to the original personal folder No deal outlook would not let me as it was presumably syncing with the ISP's server So I unstalled Office and reinstalled it hoping for a fresh start When I ran Outlook it found my prevoius outlook pst file and imported it and I had to add my email again Same problem same issue I tired again this time renaming the outlook pst file but to no avail Outlook would not open because it could not find the old PST file DAMN If I could delete the reference to old pst files when I unistall Offcie and reinstall it I think that would resolve the issue I am now using webmail until this issue is resolved Terry

You should be able to do it through the system registry.

Backup your registry first, and then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office and delete it.

This will remove the hive for Office 2010.

Close regedit and restart your computer. Re-install Office 2010 and re-configure Outlook.

I have an AT&T mail account and they recently paired with Yahoo on their homepage. My Outlook Express in Windows XP worked with my account fine for years until yesterday. I had to change the names of the servers to: and The port settings are the same 465 and 995. Also, my password is the same. The problem is when I try to receive or send mail, Outlook Express repeatedly asks me to enter my username and password for the servers. The password box is checked on the logon box that comes up repeatedly but not highlighted. What am I overlooking?

I have a friend with a freshly restored computer.
He can no longer read his Emails that have a ***.email attachment.
But ***.eml attachments work fine.

And his computer now works the same as mine, probably because I restored it for him.

If the ***.email attachment is read, OE doesn’t know what to do with it.
His Email with ***.eml attachments work fine.
If the ***.email attachment is renamed to ****.eml .. it reads fine.
If ****.email files are associated to OE .. nothing happens.
The ****.email attachments can be read in M$ Word.

So how would a computer be setup to read ***.email attachments ??
Is C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msims.exe the correct application ??

I’m curious why he’s getting these weird attachments from several sources ??

A:Solved: Outlook Express ***.email attachments

I'm not exactly sure why he gets these attachments. Some could be attached messages from people who use MSN. doesn't say too much, but does mention that they are easily infected with viruses.

You should be able to open these by creating a new file type with an email extension. (Tools, Folder Options, File Types) Just use everything that you see listed for the .eml file type. The program would be "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /eml:%1

An alternative would be to use Regedit. Export the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.eml] key. Open it in notepad and change the eml to email. Now doubleclick to merge.

I'm running Outlook Express on Windows XP Professional. When I send an email the message is sent with an undisplayed warning and the message remains in the Outbox after it has been sent resulting in it being continually resent until I manually delete it from the Outbox. A copy of the message is not saved to the Sent Folder even though the option is checked.I have run Nortons Utilities - and other utilities - and cleaned up Windows Registry and other Windows Errors - to fix my problem (without success). Is my Outbox damaged? Do I have to restore Outlook Express? How? Could anyone please assist. me.

My friend is having a problem with OE.

He goes into his INBOX and reads his emails. He does not delete the emails he has read and then he signs off. When he goes back into OE the read emails are now in his DELETED folder

I have checked the settings and cannot seem to find anything that he may have selected in error and cannot stop this from happening?

Can anyone out there help with this

When I am in FireFox and Click File/Email Link, Outlook Express used to open in the new composition window.

Two days ago I ran Outlook and it made itself the default email program in both FireFox and IE8.

I was able to just change the email program in IE8 to Outlook Express and when I send a page by email the new composition window opens fine.

In FireFox I made a similar change but instead of opening a new composition window, it just brings up the Outlook Express inbox window. Then I have to start a new email and go back and copy the link blah blah blah.

Before I ran Outlook FireFox always opened the Outlook Express new composition window just like IE8.

How can I get that back?

I've just had a problem with Outlook Express that I've never encountered before. When I right click on a document and select Send To, and then Mail Recipient, I get a message now that says-

No profiles have been created. To create a new profile, use the Mail icon in the Contro Panel.

Could this have been caused by any of three new security updates from Microsoft yesterday?

I tried to remove them but it cautioned me that several programs on my computer may not work properly if I uninstall them. I send files to lots of people and I don't want the hassle of of creating a new profile every time I do.

Thanks in advance.

I must have deleted something crucial, because now when I send an email to anyone, and click onto INSERT, the page of photos does not come up as it should, and instead there is a blank page which doesn't move. It used to go to MY PICTURES and I could click onto a photo, i.e. of a cat, and then onto OPEN, and it would be inserted into my email, which is Outlook Express.

Does anyone know what is missing that I must have deleted or possibly removed during a scan by Auslogics or Speed Max?

You can simply use the POP3 service available to premium users ($19 per year I believe). If you are such a user, you simply need to retrieve your Emails with & send them via & you can use them with any Email client such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus, Thunderbird, etc.

I have noticed that the POP3 service seems to be available free of charge for people with a Email (such as me). I still have no idea why they would make such a service free for some people & not for others.

I can try to help with point number 1. Instead of clicking "reply", try clicking "forward" as it should retain the attachment. The only problem is that you will need to enter in the email address that you are trying to reply to.

Just as a note on that, do not forget that the person you are replying to may not want to be receiving copies of their attachment back as it will be filling up their mailbox.

I've done this so many times I can do it in my sleep.
1)Open Outlook,go to Tools/Accounts/Mail tab,
2)Now click the Add button and select Mail.
3)The Internet Wizard pops up and asks what name you want to appear in the From field of emails that you send-type your name.Click Next
4)Now you are asked to type in your email address-type it in.Click next
5)Now here's where it can get tricky, call your ISP and ask them what to put in the incoming and outgoing server use Shaw cable, and my incoming server is a POP3 so thats what I select from the drop box at the top.In both incoming and outgoing server boxes I type in "shawmail" and click Next
Your ISP will tell you what to type into those two boxes.
6)Now,in the Account Name box, type in just the part of your email address before the @ symbol. In the Password box type your password and make sure the Remember Password box has a check in it.Click next.Click Finished and you're done.
7)Do the above for any other accounts you want to set up.

A:E-mail Forwarding From Yahoo To Outlook Express 6

These resetted settings only happens with Yahoo mail? Why does my mail server keep changing to or localhost? Both and localhost refer to your own computer rather than the mail server. This is a technique used by some anti-virus (AV) programs to intercept mail in order to scan it for viruses. Sometimes this doesn't work properly and Outlook Express is then unable to send or receive messages. The server name in Outlook Express is changed by the program, so no matter how many times you change it to the correct name, it will be changed back by the AV program. It is possible the AV vendor has an update that will correct this, but it is far simpler and more effective just to turn off the e-mail virus scan. As I have explained in a previous column, this scan is not necessary to protect your computer and often creates conflicts with Outlook Express. The AV system scan is all that is needed for full protection. After disabling the e-mail AV scan you can change the server to its correct name and it will remain. Came from here

My email account in an domain hosted by Yahoo! It was hihacked over a week ago. I can still access the account and send/receive mail, but approximately once every day or so, it uses my account to send our spam to all in my address book. I describe the details in the link below.

It just dawned on me that the hijack may actually not be in my local computer but instead, someone may have gained access to my account directly through the Yahoo! servers. I had about 200 contacts listed in their online address book.

I have run over 6 separate antivirus scans on my local PC and find no problems.

So, how does one deterime if a hijack is being done locally vs. in the cloud?

Although entering "pop" into any screen doesn't sound correct to me in any version of office outlook,
If you have a Yahoo plus account the entry might be as simply as In-coming server and Out-going server ?

Two very useful tools for removing viruses and rootkits are below.

I would run this tool; McAfee Stinger

[ McAfee Stinger detects and removes prevalent Fake Alert malware and threats identified in the "List Viruses" section of the Stinger application. While not a replacement for full fledged antivirus software, Stinger is updated multiple times a week to include detection for newer Fake Alert variants and prevalent viruses.

Details on new or enhanced signatures added with each Stinger build are listed in the Readme details.]

Followed by; Sophos Virus Removal Tool

[ Scans, detects and removes any rootkit that is hidden on your computer using advanced rootkit detection technology.]

Are the items that won't open links in the body of the mail?
If so, it's possible that an over-active popup blocker is
preventing the links from opening.
To find out if this is the case, hold down the ctrl key while

A few days ago both mine and my wife's Outlook Express started getting errors when we tried to send email It gives both of us the following error the account name is different obviously The connection to the server has failed Account 'spiritcloud' Server 'smtp comcast net' Protocol SMTP Port Secure SSL No Socket Error Error Number x CCC EThe only thing that changed the same on both computers was an automatic update by our AVG software I don't think that is the cause because my AVG updates each morning and my email worked fine until late one night No email settings were changed No security or network settings were manually changed No hardware was changed Nothing Our outgoing mail just stopped working I talked to our ISP tech support and he said that of the time that error means a problem with either the email settings or with security settings such as anti virus software Since I knew the email settings hadn't changed I looked at the AV I Email Express Send Won't Outlook even completely removed it but the email error remained I tried setting up the account from scratch on outlook express--no change I tried setting up a new account--same error I tested every OE authentication setting combination--nothing worked Mail does send from the accounts using webmail Not sure if that means the problem is with outlook express or if it's apples and oranges Anyone know the solution or something I can try I'm going to talk to our ISP tech support again but I thought I would more likely get an answer solution from you fine folks AKA gurus I always tell people quot Let me ask on the 'guru site ' quot hehehThanks in advance for any advice and or help

Hmm. A couple wild thoughts here:

Have you tried disconnecting from the internet entirely and connecting again to see if that solves the problem?

Have you tried flushing your DNS and IP numbers? I'm afraid I don't remember the directions for that, but I found it here on BC. That might solve the problem.

By the way, what AVG are you using? AntiSpyware or AntiVirus?

I need to recover emails from one hard drive and bring them over to my main one. I have read that it is best to simply boot from the other hard drive, backup the files and import them to the new hard drive however this is not an option since every time i try to boot from my old hard drive my computer gets a BSOD.

I have no idea where the directory is for OE on the other hard drive, nor what time of files will have the emails, or how to import them onto a new hard drive using a different program (i won't be using outlook express on this new hard drive, most likely will be using thunderbird). I cant seem to find a fix for this. Hope you can help. I have a friend that I was helping over the phone installed Office XP on thier Windows XP SP2 machine. They had Office 97 and was having trouble with Outlook Express 6 spell check. I found a posting that said Office 97 didn't like XP SP2. So I had them uninstall Office 97 then install Office XP.
They normally use Outlook express 6 as their default email account. When we went to Internet Prop. to change Email default to Outlook Express there is no drop down. I had them do SP3 for Office XP but still didn't help. Trust me I have tried to switch them to Outlook but they won't do it. They are use to Outlook Express and some old dogs you just can't teach new tricks.
Does anyone know of a fix.

Greetings gary lamar, and Welcome to TSF,

What I have done with ALL my emails is.....I created a specific folder called 'Emails', and this is on my D: partition, well and truly away from the O/S just in case the inevidable happens...[A Crash!!]..and it has too.

Now to put your emails into your 'new' specified this....Open the email, and on "File", go 'Save As' and navigate to your 'New Emails' folder and save them there..Hey Presto, they're saved for all time.
Once you've saved them all, you can confidently delete them from Outlook Express, as they are in the other folder anyway.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Another way you can do this is... create the specific folder on the desktop, and then copy the folder from the desktop to CD.

It sounds like you did the work not the "idiot". Anyways, It sounds like you Restored your system to Factory Settings and wiped your drive. Outlook Express on XP Basic suddenly won't open emails. Clicking on an email results in the header information showing up at the bottom of the screen, where the message can be read only by expanding that header field, but the email message does not open a separate window as usual.
Double-clicking on the email results in the top line of OE going from highlighted to faint. A test message sent from another computer does appear on OE, but again cannot be opened other than by expanding the bottom-screen header field. A message cannot be sent - clicking on the Create Mail button also results in the top line going from bright blue to faint. At this point OE is unusable to send, cumbersome to receive. A:Help with Outlook Express / Email preferences

There are other email clients, but Outlook Express is usually the most supported (and likely what your ISP suggests to use)

Talking about your ISP (Internet Service Provider) They usually have a Setup configuration support area for setting up users email. You may want to check your ISP support site for this. As most are specific to your Internet connection and provider (especially things like Incomming/Outgoing Mail server and DNS entries)

Try your ISP for more specific help
Also don't confuse "Webmail" with your "Local mail"
Webmail, must be done online, even to view your messages

A:outlook express hijacked my email

Outlook and Outlook express are "clients". They can't "hijack" anything unless set up to do so. They only download Email when opened. You can use them as well as Thunderbird and others and still specify "Leave Message on Server". That way your Email will still be left on the Web at GMX even though the client downloaded it.

All emails using Outlook Express...are encoded.  You will only be able to separate attachments individuallly, after opening each email.

Receiving email by OS6.0 is fine - I have an ADSL line, and until recently, all email sending and receiving has been totally seamless. Increasingly, however, the outgoing email has 'stuck', with the message "An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0131". I close down other programs, disconnect and re-connect the ADSL line, and finally have to re-boot before the emails will send. Because it's getting progressively worse, the thought of a virus crosses my mind, but I have no other symptoms, and have current Norton Live Update and Firewall protection. I have upgraded memory to 511Mb, on a PentiumIII(?) system, and no other programs fall over!! I have discussed the problem with my ISP, who feel it is not a server problem. (Huh!!). Hello guys.
My dad uses outlook express for his emails. A month or two ago, all his emails disappeared from his computer, so he took it to a service centre to fix the problem.
Now it happened again, but he is leaving on a business trip today, so he has no time for a technician.

He uses outlook express along with IE5 and WinXP. If anyone has heard something about this, or know a solution, i would greatly appreciate it, for he needs those mails, and he's not very good with comps.

A:Outlook Express Email Disappearance

I know several reasons causing this problem:1. Outlook Express settings. Run OE and Click View | Current View and be sure it is set to "Show All Messages". Also verify that "Show replies to my messages" is not checked or you will see only replies to your messages.2. Antivirus software. Sometimes happens Outlook Express *.dbx files (files where OE stores messages) are deleted by antivirus software. For example older versions of McAfee VirusScan are known to delete DBXs. If this happened I'm sorry to say your messages are lost. 3. Damaged *.dbx file. In the case of a damaged "Inbox.dbx" file, a new Inbox will have been created automatically, and will now be using the file "Inbox(1).dbx" or similar. However the original Inbox.dbx will still exist. Locate it by going to OE store folder (Tools | Options | Maintenance). Then you can try to extract messages from this file using DBXtract tool. Also, I recommend to backup your OE messages periodically to prevent such situations. I'm using outlook express backup from abf-soft. Simple and handy (not an advertising, just sharing the experience).

Hi lomitabeach

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

In Outlook Express,
Tools > Accounts > (AccountName) > Properties > Connection tab
If checked, uncheck: Always connect to this account using:
Apply, OK to save and close.

Outlook Express should then use whatever connection is available.

Check your Dial-up settings:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab
Select/Highlight your Dial-up Connection and select: Never dial a connection

Let us know if that makes a difference.

Ha ha, it's true. I use Outlook 2010 (because I do use the Calendar, rules, etc), but Outlook Express was brilliant. Much better than all this 'Modern App' nonsense with it's dictator like ways and lack of flexibility. Outlook Express made a good NNTP reader as well. Windows Mail that shipped with Vista was OK too.

You can make Outlook 2010 quite simple if you want though (or if you click the 'Reading View' icon in the status bar at the bottom, it won't even show the folder list on the left hand). My biggest dislike is that I find text menus are much more efficient than stupid pictures/icons:

You might need to reconfigure your email accounts in Outlook Express.

To help you do this, we will need to know a couple of things...

1. Who is your ISP?

2. Is your connection broadband or dial-up?

If you can please answer these questions, we will then be able to start you on the 'road to recovery'.

A:Cannot Delte Email In Outlook Express 6

If there are no messages in your Inbox that you want to save, try deleting the Inbox.dbx file in your Identity. If you have some emails you want to save, move or copy them to a new folder, if you can.To find your identity, you will have to first go into Tools-Folder Options-View from any folder in Windows Explorer and check "Show hidden files and folders" first. The path to your OE Identity should be something like this:C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{BA71C9C5-E7AE-4417-BC40-8E2D6367A668}\Microsoft\Outlook Express(The information between { and } will be different too.)If you have more than one identity, browse to the correct one.Find the Inbox.dbx and just delete it. When you open OE again, it will recreate a new Inbox.dbx file. DO NOT DELETE THE Folder.dbx file. Sometimes it is necessary to rebuild the Folder.dbx file, but you will have to redo your settings, personalized folders, news feeds, etc if you use those.

I have a dial up internet connection for my old desktop computer located in an area of my house that doesn't receive WIFI. I have an Outlook Express account with Netzero (my ISP) and have no problems getting my email. My question is.....

When I am upstairs in my house and using WIFI (through our neighbor - with his permission because it's a temporary thing) I can get my Outlook Express email and I'm NOT using Netzero. This also made me come my email comes through on Outlook Express when I'm in a coffee shop using their WIFI. Eventually I'll be going totallyto WIFI and I"m wondering if I need to change my email address with everyone.

I have several email addresses (accounts) and have always been able to change the name of the account whenever I want (via account properties) - not the display name for the "from" line, but what I name the account. But now, if I try to change it, it won't keep the changes and reverts back to the name it was before. I've only recently gone to WinXP SP2, and am wondering if it's something to do with SP2? Would anyone know how I can fix this please?TIA(PS - I'm fairly experienced in OE ).

A:Outlook Express - Can't Change Email Account Name

I thought I'd try deleting and recreating one of the accounts as a test, and it naturally worked. However, if I then try to change the account name again (as a test), it's the same problem as before. Therefore, something somewhere must corrupt?
