Good place to get WMI Files or autodeploy software for Server 2003?

Q: Good place to get WMI Files or autodeploy software for Server 2003?

I was just thinking doing downloading AVG free, Adaware SE, Spybot, and Spyblaster for protection for my clients. Why don't I store these install files this time? Then I thought why not just get WMI files of them if possible. Then I realized I'm a total noob to pushing out things and should probably ask how is the preferred method before doing it. Now I know that MS Server 2003 can push out things but I am unclear about 2 things.

1. Where should you store those WMI files you want to push out to select later?

2. If I can't get a WMI file is there a converter or should I get a third party product that can push out?

Anyone that can help would be great, right now I'm just storing the .exe files in a folder on the server. I know in theory you can do it, I just haven't done it yet with anything.

Preferred Solution: Good place to get WMI Files or autodeploy software for Server 2003?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nevermind got it but it gives an option in the form of a box instead of just installing is there a switch to auto run?

Hey all.

I've been looking for some software or a website to do search engine submission. Free is obviously good, but I wouldn't be out if I did have to pay. Been messing with AddWeb, but I'm worried about using automatic software (purley because half the time this software is a ad-scheme in itself). If anyone knows of any good places, please tell!

Some of my software apps are not installed and simply consist of a folder containing an .exe file and a bunch of .dlls. One runs the software simply by clicking on the .exe file. To get rid of the software one simply has to delete the folder containing it. No de-installation procedure is needed to remove it from the system. I don't know the technical term for this kind of software ("portable" ?). Is there a preferred place to "park" this kind of software ? I guess it would be inappropriate to put it under "Program files" since these are installed apps. Basically, of course, it doesn't matter. I could leave them on a USB key if I wanted or leave them in the "My Downloads" folder but I just wondered if there is some common convention.

A:Best place to put .exe files of non-installed software ?

It is entirely at your personal discretion.
I often leave temporary or novelty/gimmick software and applications in my Download directory, as I know that I downloaded them for the sake of the gimmick.
Very rarely do I clear this folder, but it does end up becoming a cluster of miscellaneous files.

In the event that I have downloaded something I may have a permanent need for, like installation programs and homebrew software, I often put it up in my D:/SOFTWARE/Applications directory, which is shared across a network. I made this particular decision under the pretense that my D:/ drive is huge and I could be careless about what I put in there, as well as having noticed a lot of people would like to have access to this kind of portable software when ever they hear or see of it. I can also access this software readily on all of my portable devices and computers without having to copy it around.

Then again... all of my games, multimedia, documents and photos are shared across my network!
It's up to you in the end.

Is it a good idea to migrate from Windows Server SBS 2003 SP1 to SP2?

A:Is it a good idea to migrate from Windows Server SBS 2003 SP1 to SP2

Yeah I would say so. We've updated all our servers without any problems although people have experienced some problems, in particular the Help and Support files going missing. But a quick google will show up a fix for this.

Like all updates, I would create a backup before you do anything.

Not sure if this is the correct forum. In the past I could use SCOPY to move users files from a File server (NT4 server) to a Windows 2000 server. From what I understand SCOPY does not work properly with 2003. Does Server 2003 have a similar utility to pring in files and retain security permissions ?

Hi there to any of you network Gurus -- I'm testing a Virtual version of Windows Server What I'd like to do is to set up a VPN so I can access it from another computer Windows in the LAN while testing but using a VPN rather than RDP A FREE VPN server and client is what I would like at this stage Eventually I would like to login from a mobile phone too - but later The VPN should just present a LOGIN screen to the user and then show a basic desktop with just say Office and IE installed on it I'm totally VPN and VPN AND Create (Server client) Free software good new to this sort of stuff - so SIMPLE to start with - I don't want to get into quot Remote Roaming quot Domains or any other quot Geeky stuff quot at this stage -- just the simple basics - LOGON etc Any links greatfully appreciated -- there's so many to choose from so I don't know where to start The network connectivity to the server works fine --at least with RDP so I don't have to worry at least about that bit of the system Cheers jimbo

A:Create VPN and good Free VPN software (Server AND client)

First off, a vpn in just a virtual network connection, so it won't natively present you with a desktop or applications. It will get you remotely connected to the network, from there you will launch something else to connect to a desktop, either rdp, terminal services, etc.

Doing a VPN is natively built into sever 2012, so you won't need any software, free or otherwise to setup a.basic VPN.

I have a terabyte raid5 running on a server 2003 box. It has a separate system drive. I was wondering, if that system drives fails and I reload 2003 on another drive, will it pick up that software raid5 configuration and all the data? Thanks.

A:Software Raid5 in Server 2003

If the OS is not part of the array and you have installed applications on the array you will have to restore those applications as well. I am not even sure you can make the OS part of an RAID 5 array. Your best bet would be to restore the OS volume from a full backup...the OS won't know the difference since the array looks like one big drive to it.

Somebody please help me. A walkthrough would be great. This is my problem. I have a server at work, I am a computer engineer, however the problem is I have not had much experience with servers. My task is to install some software onto the server (Windows Server 2003) so that the software can then be accessed and run on each client computer (PC that is connected to the server)

Would anyone have any tips, or be able to walk me through doing this ?

I have a 2 PCs that are randomly powering off. One more than the other. Both are giving the same symptoms but I have no clue how to figure out what is going on. I need help from a software to figure these out.

1) Event logs are clean no stop signs or exclamtion points prior to shutdown.
2) Just gives an indicator last shutdown was unexpected.
3) memtest runs through fine.
4) Shutdown is 100% random not any timed thing.
5) Happens when idle and at full use.
6) No blue screen at all.
7) No dump files.
8) Different power sources have been used/on top of the fact one is a laptop with a fine battery.

I am all out of troubleshooting ideas. Any thoughts on something that is a realtime system monitor that might catch WHY these systems are shutting down?

I will start by saying what I have been using for desktop computers. I like the way Ghost 15 works. It lets me set the days of the week or month to back up and allows me to specify how many backups it saves and deletes the oldest backup image as it makes a new one.

If Ghost 15 would work on Windows 2003 Server, I would be well pleased.

What is there that is similar that will work on Windows 2003 Server?

And that doesn't cost a fortune?

Try this.

CDisplayEx | Download CDisplayEx software for free at SourceForge.net

Though .cbr and .cbz are basically rar and zip files, you should be able to rename them to .rar and .zip respectively, unzip them using a free unzipper like 7zip, the read them in the windows picture viewer. Also see this page.

On the server hard drive, there are files there, (file server),

I checked all permissions and everything is fine., however.. Every time one of the domain users goes to delete a file or a folder that they no longer use on the server hard drive, the files come back the next day.

the process has been going on for about 3 weeks now, I cant seem to figure out where the files come back from, I see them removed from the server and then the next day they no longer are there..

any idea what might be causing this?

A:Solved: Difference b/w Windows Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server has the following restrictions:
- Only one computer in a domain can be running Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server must be the root of the Active Directory® forest.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server cannot trust any other domains.
- A Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server domain cannot have any child domains.
- Each additional server must have a Windows Small Business Server 2003 client access license (CAL). You can use CALs for each user or for each device.
The standard edition of Windows Small Business Server 2003 includes Windows Server 2003 technologies, including fax service, firewall service, and remote-access service. Additionally, it includes Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, enhanced tools for server monitoring and administration, and an out-of-the-box solution for internal Web sites. The standard edition is ideal for customers who do not require the higher-level functionality included in the premium edition

The premium edition includes everything in the standard edition, plus Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000, and Microsoft FrontPage® 2003. The premium edition is ideal for small businesses with more demanding IT needs, such as data-intensive line-of-business applications, or advanced firewall and Web-caching capabilities

The standard edition has most of the stuffs inside.

A:Copying Files error when installing Windows Server 2003

Usually files aren't found because of CD has scratches / dirt on it. Sometimes the drives themselves don't work with some discs and you could try another drive (for the installation).

Are you able to finish the installation without those files? If you are, check if they really are on the CD and use expand command in the command prompt to uncompress them.

mswrd632.wp_ is MS Word document converter for Wordpad (and maybe other applications too) and goes to %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv (filename mswrd632.wpc).

The rest .exe files are Internet connection wizard's files and go to %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard, if I'm not mistaken.

If you use another way to setup your network connection and don't read Word 6 documents with Wordpad, you could just ignore those files.

Also confirm all backups are complete (even though it's just a standard Windows command, sometimes installed personal firewalls and Antivirus softwares can cause issues during the scan)

ok, heres the situation

my cpu core burned on my duron because the heatsink fell off. :dead: So i need a place to buy a new cpu. Something like a 2200+ athlon. i know lots of places, but i need a place that has cod's or something similar, i am unfortunate enough to not have a credit card. If you have heard of dalco.com they support cod's but there cpu's and other things are rather high priced compared to places like newegg.com. i'm considering going with newegg.com but you have to send them a money order and they won't send the parts until the money has cleared, that adds a couple of weeks to me getting me a cpu. I'm on a k6-2 550 right now so u should understand this problem

Well I just realized that about half of my life is stored on my hard-drive. I'm backing up with an external HD but being the paranoid I am, if the house is burnt down.. the backup doesn't help much.

Any software that automatically uploads any file that I put in a specific folder to some server? So I can access it from another computer and download the stuff back, just in case.

A:Any Sync software that uploads the files in a folder to an Online server?

You will hardly find a software doing that. But you can always upload it with:

http://www.megaupload.com
Rapidshare
Hotfile

Just write the link to your files somewhere, so that you can download again when you need it.

need some SATA cables, and can't really find a place that has the various lengths that I'm looking for

Also, I see that some are SATA and some are SATA2 cables, is there really a difference?

And I would assume that SATA2 are backward compatible with SATA1, so shouldn't I go ahead and get SATA2 cables since my board is SATA2?

thanks!

A:Good place to buy SATA cables?

you can actually buy at any online retailer, such as newegg amazon, or pricewatch or even the physical store, such as bestbuy, fry's.

the sata and sata2 are not that much diff. If I am not mistaken, the sata and sata2 HD actually uses the same cable, it's the drive and the controller that's making the difference not the cable.

Hi, folks.

Can anyone recommend a forum that I can go to for advice about custom built PCs?

I am looking to build (or have built for me) a new desktop for work. I mostly use Adobe Creative Suite for...
print designweb site content creationvideo editingetc
I'm not a gamer, but I still have a copy of Flight Simulator X & rFactor 2 that I might install again.

My ideal system will be something like this:
2 or 3 monitors (very high resolution)2 NVIDIA GPUsa lot of RAMa SSD to boot off ofat least 1 TB of onboard storage space (I'm backing up to WD Passports)USB 3

Thank you!

A:Good place to get advice on mobo, case, etc.?

Our sister/brother site PC Help Forum has a lot of knowledgeable people and some of them/us are here too.
Some advice for a start, Since you already set what you need computer for, set the budget too, at least within some boundaries and be prepared to hear a lot of Intel vs. AMD and Nvidia vs. AMD arguments.
I do some graphics and video editing so here some of my experience:
CPU, more cores vs. CPU "power". Like, AMD FX8350 vs, Intel I7
As much and as fast RAM you can cram in the MB.
Speaking of MB, a quality MB with good cooling and power section durability.
Don't really need two video cards if you are not heavy gamer. one good one should suffice in your case. There are also some (expensive) video cards dedicated to graphic/ video work.
Do not skimp on a power supply, it will be called to do a lot of work. A good make would be preferable to a lot of declared Watts.
A large, properly ventilated case is preferably to fancy ones.
Consider a good CPU cooler, preferably water cooling, CPU coolers supplied with processor are barely adequate for ordinary work let alone for heavy use hour after hour you will probably do in the warm climate.
SSD, as large as you can/want to get, larger, 500GB or more are faster and more reliable than smaller ones. Video and to some extent graphic programs do a lot of work with disks even with large amount of RAM so it can speed up operations considerably.

Hello everyone,

I am new to all this so I apologise if I am doing this all wrong!

I have a user who has created a number of Word 2003 documents and inserted embedded images. We have just recently (i.e. today!) replaced his machine and now everytime he opens any of the word documents he created in this way he gets the red x instead of an image.

Now, as these documents are on the company network, I have opened them on my machine and the images are there, I am an administrator so am not sure if this makes a difference. The replacement machine is XP Pro -which is the same as his previous machine, and the reason for upgrade was to give the user dual screen capabilities.

If anyone could shed some light on this for me that would be great.

Thanks

Hello,
i am using Microsoft Access 2003 on a PC. I would like to be able to have one of my columns automatically have the phrase "./images/" placed in front of any words in the field. I already have the default value set at that, but thats only for new rows and i would like even the old rows to have that phrase placed in front. Even if there is a trick to getting this done i would be appreciative, i have over 12,000 lines and the only way i can figure to do this is manually copy and pasting.

Thank you!

Hi,

I am trying to make a new letterhead for my business, and I have an image that I would like to appear on the right hand side of everypage. Basically I want to be able to put the image in something like a side header but I dont think these exist. I was hoping someone new how to make a text box do the same job as a header and footer and then I could put the text box on the right hand side of the page, but you will no doubt have a better solution. Additionally, I need to lock the image if possible so nobody can type over the image or move the image around. Is this at all possible.

Thanks for looking and hope you can help.

A:How to make an image appear in the same place on everypage in Mircosoft Word 2003

If you don't mind having a faded image, you could insert the image into the Header, right click on it and choose Format Picture and on the Layout tab choose Tight. Position the image where you will then exit. When you now type in the document all text will wrap around the image and not over it. If you increase the contrast of the image via the Picture Toolbar before exiting it will appear more clearly in the document.

When Im protecting a document in Word 2003 and allow exceptions, the exceptions have a grey box as a placeholder. This is printing out as faint grey lines on the printed version. Is there anyway to change the colour of the placeholder (it looks like a field) - or get rid of it entirely?

A:Protect document in Word 2003. Place holders showing on printed copy

Hi LoloPerth, welcome to TSG.

If the exceptions use the same shading that field codes do, it might work to turn off the field code shading. You can go to Tools/Options and change the dropdown box under Field Shading to Never. Let us know if that has any effect.

I'm having issues finding the location of en expired certificate that one of my LDAP servers responds with during an LDAPS bind attempt.

I'm using Linux's ldapsearch to perform specific tasks during user creation but recently discovered the certificate expired. I have renewed said certificate and placed it in the personal store on that ldapserver but after debugging the SSL connection it still responds with the previously expired certificate.

Can anyone tell me where this certificate would be stored on Windows Server 2003. I've found multiple post regarding the store in 2008 but that does not exist in 2003. I've searched the whole store using certutil trying to match the serial on this certificate but can't find it anywhere.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Here, I scrapped your config. NAT bad/static bad/conduit bad/access-list bad.

no fixup protocol smtp
nameif int xxx outside security 0
nameif int xxx inside security 100
nameif int xxx dmz security 80
icmp permit any outside echo-reply
icmp permit any outside unreachable
icmp permit any inside
icmp permit any dmz
global (outside) 1 int
nat (inside) 1 172.17.0.0 255.255.0.0 32768 16483
route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 65.77.78.1 1
static (inside,dmz) 172.17.0.0 172.17.0.0 255.255.0.0
static (dmz,outside) 172.18.0.2 65.77.78.48 netmask 255.255.255.255 << Can't have same IP as interface**
access-list internet permit tcp any host 65.77.78.48 eq 80
access-list internet permit tcp any host 65.77.78.48 eq 443
access-list internet permit tcp any host 65.77.78.48 eq 25
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq echo
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq echo-reply
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq unreachable
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq source-quench
access-group internet in interface outside
access-list dmz permit ip host 172.18.0.2 any << *Read note 1
access-group dmz in interface dmz
access-list inside permit ip any any
access-group inside in interface inside

The above config will nat 172.18.0.2 to 65.77.78.48. You can't static NAT an entire IP to the same as a global (your interface). You can only do this if you NAT specific ports.

The above config will allow internet to reach 65.77.78.48 via TCP 80/443/25. I can only assume you're using ISA for EFE server, and maybe proxy. (Not an ISA fan)

The above config allows your ISA server carte-blanche access. In essence, it's a DMZ by name only. Don't fool yourself.

Don't use conduits, they're deprecated.

Don't use a firewall to permit "any" to your ISA server, actually use it to block inbound ports.

Also, your ISA server shouldn't/can't have two NIC's in the same subnet. That's a bad idea on 10 different levels. IF you're using your ISA server (blech) as EFE / reverse proxy for OWA, and outbound proxy - you might as well keep it on the same subnet as your Exchange server (inside, I'm assuming.) Again, 10 different reasons why it's a flawed security plan.

If this is simply an EFE server or reverse proxy, make sure you don't keep the ISA server part of any AD domain, stick it in the DMZ, and restrict what hosts it's allowed to see on the network that you're trying to protect.

Regards.

Currently we are on an NT network with a few 2000 servers tossed in. Today I learned that the plan is to migrate everything to Linux. Lets assume that this only applies to the servers and that the users will still operate with 98/nt/2000/xp. What are your thoughts on this?

I put this in this forum for a reason. Because I'd rather get the advice from 2000 and 2003 experts who know what Linux cannot replace than to hear the Linux fanboys and anti-Microsoft activists praise it to the high heavens.

What would your concerns be if this was done on your network? What problems have you encountered if you'd tried this? Or what successes? Know of any businesses that have done this successfully?

Every 5 minutes I get this error message popping up under event viewer on a Windows 2003 Small Business Server (all updates etc):

Event ID: 1054

Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (An unexpected network error occurred. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I have done the MS Support site "recommendations", but the Server is pointing to itself for the DNS and the IP address and all that are fine. Not sure why or what is going on here. I can't seem to stop it.

hi guys!
I just installed Windows 2000 Advance Server recently to a Compaq Proliant ML530 server and found out that the license for this server is more expensive than Windows Server 2003 Standard. The SmartStart CD of the compaq does not support windows server 2003 and I don't want to manually re-configure everything and start all over again. Does Win2K A.S. support Windows Server 2003 upgrade?

I'll post this question anyway. First off, I'll preface by stating that I'm completely computer retarded.
Here's my issue: I own a Sony handycam DCR-DVD305 & I'm suddenly running into issues with their picture package software. It's started telling me that I need to install multimedia flash player in order to run the program. The thing is I already have it installed and I didn't realize it needed that to run in the first place. It never used to do this. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software and that didn't help. Please Help.

You have three options, theres a fourth but thats install from scratch
ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&scoring=d&q=move+to+new+hardware&btnG=Search&meta=group%3Dmicrosoft.public.windows.server.sbs

1. Swing Migration - http://www.sbsmigration.com

2. forklift. Image your installation and restore it to your new hardware. Some information on this method at http://www.smallbizserver.net. Check out google groups also for some info also.

3. Theres a Microsoft tool called Active Directory Migration Tool. For this you'll need to rename your server and you domain http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=16414

But i can connect non admin user to opc server in Windows xp

Is it possible for non admin user to connect OPC server in windows server 2003?

OPC server and client are on same system

Please give me your feedback

Thanks!

A:Non Admin not able to connect OPC server in Windows Server 2003

From what I've read on this thread, you'll need to set computer-wide DCOM security permissions. You'll want to peruse that thread.

On another note, this isn't really the best spot for this question. An error message isn't a crash, hang or bsod, and the situation is more relevant to specifically the Windows Server section (even though OPC servers can and often do exist in many client versions of Windows). You'll be able to receive more help there, as it's pertinent to your needs.

We had:

1) 1 Windows Server 2003 running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 workstations.

We now want to have:

1) 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 server running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 same workstations, with their same user profiles.

So I joined the 2008 R2 server to the domain, and then used the dcpromo tool to make it a domain controller.

Problem is, whenever I take the old server offline, (the 2003 one) everything flips out, logons are slow, and the 2008 server gives people trying to access shared files weird errors like that the server that authenticated them cannot be contacted, and asks them to log in again with their username and password before accessing shared files on the server.

What did I do wrong? I must be forgetting something.

I have two domain controllers with different domain names but on the same subnet and with active directory installed. One domain controller is win 2000 and the other is win 2003. The computers are in a workgroup the users don't log on but are connected to the win 2000 box with shares to a program. If I take active directory off the win 2000 box and demote will that affect the computers that are In a workgroup connected to the shares? I want to install all the programs and shares on the new win 2003 box but one computer win not let me log on to the win 2003 box it says no domain available. What can I do to slowly migrate the programs and shares to the new server?

We have a Windows 7 Pro laptop that can't see any of the 300 or so Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Machines.

It can, however, see all (around 13) Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 Machines that are on the network. Using \\ServerName\Share doesn't connect, and they don't show up on the network map.

It can ping the servers though. They ping by hostname and by ip address. Other Windows 7 Pro Laptops don't have this same problem!

Additional Info:
They are all joined to the domain; servers, laptaps, etc.

I have a client who has an existing Server 2000 domain. He is running two Windows 2000 servers in his domain. What he's looking to do is to replace the master domain controller,(the server which was first brought up and hence contains the master copy of the domain database).

I believe that since this is going to be a completely new server and running Server 2003 standard edtiion I believe, that I'll need to first take everyone out of the domain, demote the second domain controller to a stand-alone and then demote the master domain controller which effectively dissolves the domain. Then after bringing the brand new server up, recreate the domain and then the secondary domain controller and join everyone back into domain (new SID but same domain name).

Does this sound correct-could anyone confirm whether this is correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Anyone please instruct on hoe to put files into 1 folder. For ex. I have a bunch of pix in "My Documents" folder, I'd like to free-up some space there.
I need to move them over to an album or a convenient place for me to be able to send thru e-mails. "My Briefcase" is also 'bout full. I'm ileterate in these
PC oper. areas. Thanks.

A:Files all over the place.

You can easily move any type of file from one folder to another. There are various ways to do this depending on your version of Windows, but this will work in all of them:

1 open the folder where the file is

2 hover the mouse cursor over the file name to highlight it (don't click or you'll open the file)

3 press the Shift key and hold it down then press and hold down the left mouse button...then move the mouse pointer to the other folder to 'drag' the file there

To select more than one file at a time:

1 if the files are listed together, hover the cursor over the first in the list then hold down the shift key and move the cursor to the last item in the list (this will highlight all the files between the two)

2 if the files are not all listed together you can hold down the Ctl key and highlight individual files by hovering over them with the mouse (if you make a mistake and highlight one you don't want, just hover the mouse over it again and it will de-select it).

In both cases, you then hold down the shift key and the left mouse button and move the cursor to the new folder (as for single files) and all the selected files will be moved in one go..

To create a new folder to hold your photos (or whatever). First decide where you want it to be. Don't put it on your desktop tho or it'll use memory. For example, you might have it as a sub-folder in the My Documents folder or as a separate folder in the same directory as My Docs (ie the C drive root).

Open the directory you decide upon then right click in the view pane and choose 'new' and then 'folder' from the menus. You'll then have a new folder which will be at the bottom of the list in the view pane. If you right click over the folder and choose 'rename' you can then type in a relevant name for the folder.

Then you can open that folder and also open My Docs, and move the photo files from one to another. You can move files from My Briefcase using the same process.

...and it looks like they're not coming back...

I burned a cd-r with MyDocuments before formating my HD. I used the infamous DirectCD to do that. The disk is now unreadable.

I've spent some time looking around the web for a program that might be able to recover those files. I tried CD-R Diagnostic Demo (it finds a bunch of files with no names, just numbers, different file sizes, probably my files, but I can't copy them, the program tells me that Demo version can't copy). I also tried ISO Buster, no luck there either.

Is there any other program out there that could recover the files.

If you could help me out, that'd be appreciated.

bobo
*staring at the disk surface, wondering what my files are doing right now*

A:My files have gone to a better place...

Welcome, bobo

After you burned it, did you try to read it before you formatted your hard drive?

Also, did you choose to make it readable for all cdroms? I believe if you'll go back into Direct CD, it may give you that option......BOL

I have connected several vista business machines onto a samba domain. When logging in for the first time vista creates a load of desktop.ini files all over the place on each machine and for each user. There is one in every single directory below c:\Users\, even the Startup folder. To remove them I must login as the user and manually set them to "hidden". This is not practical for lots of users on lots of machines.

Why does it do this?
Do I need one in every single directory?
How do I fix this problem quickly?

I have many portable programs and some of them are x64. This is probably a stupid question but is there is any reason why should I place the x64 programs in "Program Files" and the x86 programs to "Program Files x86" or I can place them wherever I want regardless of x64/86

A:Is it necessary to place x64 programs not in the x86 program files

Let windows do the install, no need to adjust anything.

Hello I created the following performance counter using logman exe nbsp logman exe counters incorrectly Server Windows correctly creates performance on 2003 but Server Windows Logman 2008/2012 on create counter US Triton Perf Log -b -e -r -s server -si frequence -cf folder server txt -f logtype nbsp -o C local logs Perfout Server --a -v mmddhhmm nbsp -rf nbsp max Logman creates performance counters on Windows Server 2008/2012 correctly but incorrectly on Windows Server 2003 duration When I do this across multiple servers specifically for Windows Servers the counter is created to repeat and run everyday at PM and stops running everyday at PM This works perfectly fine as intended However When I do this for a Windows server my created counter is very different For example in this case I have set to the counters to start at AM and end at PM because I have set a maximum duration of hours the job terminates and begins on the next day since Logman creates performance counters on Windows Server 2008/2012 correctly but incorrectly on Windows Server 2003 I have the repeat option on However this does not apply to our server logman creates the job to run once a week in this case it would be on a Wednesday In addiiton I noticed that the job doesn't not even start at it's indented time It actually does not start at all I also notice that the jobs on all windows servers are created in a pending status which then prevents me from removing Logman creates performance counters on Windows Server 2008/2012 correctly but incorrectly on Windows Server 2003 the counter remotely nbsp I would like to know if windows is capable of working like my win servers using logman and if historically the job has to be kicked off through scheduled task nbsp Both Jobs are using the same criteria but are created differently The top photo was created on a windows server and the bottom photo was created on windows server Am I missing something here FYI I have a script to automate across servers so when I deployed this it turned out about servers were actually running as intended and a whole bunch of them were in pending status and all stopped nbsp I appreciate any response on this issue

I do a lot of Win 7 installs, and the update process on a fresh install is a bit painful.

So I downloaded all the current Win 7 updates (roughly 6GB) from the Windows Update Catalog and what I want to do is place them in the proper place (folder) so Windows Update will see them and install them.

Otherwise it looks like I have to install each one separately, which saves on bandwidth usage since there is nothing to download, but still takes a long time which of course partially defeats the purpose.

A:Manually installing updates - where to place files?

Hi red, in the future try this:
Slipstream Windows 7 SP1 into a Installation DVD or ISO File

I believe the default location for updates is:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Not sure about them installing. I'll let someone else comment on that.

Hello all I m not sure if this is an operating system question or more of a software development question Anyway I have a legacy COM service a COM server 2003 Server execution Windows - connecting when on service DCOM "Server failed" that runs as a windows service that was written for Windows NT I have managed to use the service on both Windows and Windows XP unchanged However I now wish to run the service on a Windows Server machine and I can t seem to DCOM service on Windows Server 2003 - "Server execution failed" when connecting get it to work This is what happens - Install the service and set it to log on using a domain account Start the service from the services msc applet Start the client application and connect to the service At this stagte the client applicaiton freezes for approximately seconds and DCOM service on Windows Server 2003 - "Server execution failed" when connecting then returns with the error message quot Server execution failed quot I ve also tried using the client whilst the service is stopped In this case when I connect the service is started but I get the same error The development team also provided a standalone application that hosts the exact same COM objects mainly for debugging purposes If I use the standalone application everything works fine Its all very strange Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be And preferably a solution Thanks Kep nbsp

A:DCOM service on Windows Server 2003 - "Server execution failed" when connecting

I found the answer.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroup...-DC48AB0DA5C9&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us

The above discussion says that a service must enter a running state before a COM server calls CoRergisterClassObject. So I guess its a development problem.

Not sure why it only manifests on Windows Server 2003 though.

Kep.
