I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you spilled any liquid on it? It could cause your keys to become sticky at the bottom.

My Notebook keyboard has stopped working. The touchpad appears to be ok. Also the battery light does not work although the battery charges ok. The virtual keyboard is ok. I have reset the unit back to factory settings which did not solve the problem. Windows 10 has been installed and uninstalled on the reset but the keyboard remained faulty. Everything was perfect until I passed through airport security a few days ago, although this unit has been through several times before. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all

I am completely stumped as my keyboard has gone haywire and am quite annoyed i cant fix it

Am running windows 7 on toshiba satellite pro laptop and was wondering if its a software or perhaps hardware issue.

Here is what is happening:

- Caps lock light doesnt stay on anymore but it flashes when i press it. It does still work properly though
- Left SHIFT key still works but when i press it.....it also creates this symbol ~ at the same time within UK keyboard. If i change to US keyboard then it enters the PIPE symbol.
- The ~ key above the tab key actually does this ?
- And the pipe key which is above the Enter key types this: #7

Does anyone have any idea on how i can sort this as its quite frustrating! Thanks for any ideas.

cheers

A:Keyboard Buttons Have Gone Faulty

Hi there asklink, Welcome to Seven Forums.

A quick search around on Google finds that a lot of people are having the same issue or issues with the keyboard.

I was looking on the toshiba forums and they suggest you perform a BIOS update to fix this issue.

Quote:
If you should experience the above issue on your notebook, please perform a BIOS Update in order to rectify the problem.

Please download and install the latest BIOS Update package for your model from the Toshiba driver download page: TOSHIBA PC BIOS Support Country Selector

Hi, just got hold of a NB100 netbook, apart from the keyboard being TINY! am having problems getting key presses to register, if you stab the keys down they work, however normally touch typing intermittantly registers.

over 4 people have tried in the office today and all have had the same issue with keys not registering. if you lightly press the key and feel when the button is depressed over and over it randomly misses!

Ive search these forums and nobody has had any issues, could it just be faulty?

Cheers

My HP m9457c desk top with OEM wireless keyboard and mouse has been driving me nuts. During "normal" operation the keyboard has five (5) keys which when individually selected launch one of the following: Club hp, IE home page, mail, IE default Search page, or HP Help program. They still function when I select them...However, starting approximately 30-90 days ago, they started selecting themselves w/o my asking for them. Usually it is the HP help program that launches. Not as often comes the IE Search ( Google) pop up. This occurs whether or not I'm on the internet. Could be just playing a game or typing a letter in Word. Replaced batteries in keyboard and mouse-no fix. Not 100% certain the problem is the wireless. Avast reports no virus present. MY OS: Win Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. Need help please.

A:Faulty Wireless Keyboard

You may be having troubles with your device drivers, firmware, and/or software. Go to Device Manager by going to start / search box and type device manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears. Check each device for a red x, yellow ! or white ?. These identify devices with problems (probably drivers, but also conflicts or something else). Click on each for further details and troubleshooting tips. If you need to get drivers (and you should do so for at least the keyboard and the wireless adapter (not just drivers but firmware and software as well, if applicable) and any others you have time to do - they may help in ways beyond just resolving this problem), do so from the computer vendor or device manufacturer (NOT from Microsoft Updates). Proceed as follows to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm. Once you have the drivers, you can install them through Device Manager as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi all I have my mums laptop a Dell Latitude The problem she is having is that the laptop will randomly enter data into fields navigate menu s or scroll up and down all by itself All of Faulty Keyboard Virus? or which could just be random keystrokes however she was concerned that she observed seemingly coherent strings of text being entered into a search bar in IE The laptop has norton antivirus installed and has passed through the system several times and turned up nothing I have also ran through the machine with Avir and AVG just to be sure both turn up clean I have ran spybot and adaware and used system mechanic to clean up the system drive repair hard drive errors and security vulnerabilities To my dismay following Faulty Keyboard or Virus? this the laptop decided it would be fun to only allow me use of the Faulty Keyboard or Virus? number which it turned into the euro sign and the letter quot a quot which was complete with a french accent Faulty Keyboard or Virus? like this - After a minute or so without me doing anything the keyboard returned to normal state and has been fine since for minutes or so Someone suggested running Hijackthis I however do not understand the breakdown in the report I have attached a copy and wondered if someone could look it over and see if there is anything glaringly obvious in it which should not be there for me please I am just trying to find out if the problem is software or hardware related and am at a loss of how to check Many thanks in advance for your help Ste nbsp

I have a DELL Inspiron 6400 Laptop which I bought new about 7 years ago and the R letter on the keyboard does not function When I press it in the center like typing normally it does not type but if I press it on the right or top edge it works (sometimes)

Following the instructions I removed the keyboard but all the keys are part of one membrane and I don’t want to go any further in case I damage the membrane

What are my options? Is the membrane easily removed and will I be able to fix it?

Should I order a new keyboard from Dell or try to get a used one?

Is a new keyboard expensive?

I have recently purchased a new blue flexible keyboard (US Layout with Kanji) anyway the left ctrl key (it only has one ctrl key) appears to have stopped working. It defintily worked until i changed the keyboard layout from uk to us in regional and language options. i'm pretty sure that isnt the issue though, because im on a completely different pc (with xp, uk layout) right now and the ctrl key still doesnt work.

Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas? a keyboard tester of some variety perhaps?

Hi,
I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

---------------------------------------
Thanks,
Marlon

I believe drivers? faulty BSOD 116 card or graphics faulty the initial crash was caused by overheating Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time more on that later Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine I can boot into safe mode and I have already reinstalled windows My motherboard is Asus B M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV A GTX How I got it to work for a short amount of time I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed

Sorry card? Solved: Faulty graphics Or motherboard? faulty that this is quite long but I want to give complete details as to the problem rather than just giving a vague problem Nvidia GT card has been overclocked for the last year Original Stable OC Before Solved: Faulty graphics card? Or faulty motherboard? you panic Solved: Faulty graphics card? Or faulty motherboard? it s been stable and temps have been fine lt My motherboard is a Asus P N-E SLI board The computer is dual boot to Vista for general use and XP x for games ONLY XP IS OVERCLOCKED Vista is not overclocked at all Only the GPU is overclocked in the computer Now the problems started when I moved the computer All the games on x crashed unless I underclocked the machine except UT ancient game which garbled the graphics weapon textures on walls etc I found out it was because somehow the card wasn t plugged in properly - so I pushed it back and I was able to play again Since then sometimes the card is alright and other times it isn t The other day I was playing fallout graphics intensive game for around hours without any problems But right now I boot to vista and within a minute it crashes Other times I was programming not even using graphics and the mouse suddenly has a flickering box around it - then the computer crashes When it crashes the screen goes weird colours like its rendered the screen as bit colours rather than bit and shortly after I get a blue screen with it complaining about a graphics DLL At first giving the card a wiggle in the PCI-E slot fixed it Now I ve discovered that when the garbled graphics come up if I physically push the card upwards in the PCI-E slot whilst the PC is still on they go away by this time the computer has crashed amp so I have to reboot anyway It s nothing to do with the drivers I ve reinstalled them on XP and besides the problem happens on both of the OS on the computer Vista seems to be considerably worse though - XP only crashes once in a while whereas Vista seems to be more unstable If you push the card up quickly sometimes Vista quot recovers quot It says quot the display ddriver stopped responding and has recovered quot or something like that You can then use the computer normally If I push the card down when the computer is working fine the computer crashes Any suggestions whether it s the card or the motherboard I removed the card blew dust off it etc put it back into the machine and the problem still happens although it initially solved it I don t want to spend on a new card to find that it s the MB that s the problem I m wondering if the card is fine since it doesn t have an issue with hours of gaming on a good day If it s a lose connection what can I do about it it s fully pushed into the motherboard If you ve read this far thanks nbsp

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

Hi I am new here. My pc recently restarts playing some games which is strange to me. I did some internet research and found that it could be me psu or gpu.
My pc spec:
Intel core i7 870 (base clock)
Intel motherboard dh55pj
Sapphire hd 6870 igb
Transcend ram (4+2) gb
Samsung 500 gb hdd
Thermaltake smartpower 550 watt psu 80+ bronze

Also I borrowed a friends` 6850 gpu+ 450 watt psu to see if there is anu problem in my mobo or processor but it was just fine. But I gave my friend my gpu psu combo and he faced problems like mine after using them for 1 week.
So now I am certain that either my gpu or my psu has gone bad. but I cant know for sure which one.Any helps.....

A:Faulty GPU or PSU?

Does your friend have a 500W PSU so they can test your GPU with their PSU? If they can test just the GPU, it might answer your question.

Actually 500W has head room, a 450W PSU might be enough to test for a week or so.

A while ago I was working on my computer when out of the blue it restarts. I picked the -Start Windows Normally option. Before it even gets to the desktop it would restart all over again. It did this until I removed the RAM sticks from DIMM slots B (slot 3 and 4) Now my computer is really slow. My computer is a HP a250n with 4x 256 ram.

A few days ago I did a full wipe on the HD to see if that would clear up the problem. It works well with only 2 sticks. When I put in the 3rd or/and 4th sticks I get to the desktop fine but only for a few minutes then it restarts and the screen goes blank. I tried switching the sticks but nothing works. What could it be?

A:Faulty ram?

Do a memtest
Have you tried swapping the memory sticks from 3-4 with the ones in 1-2?
This will help verify whether it's the sticks or the slots.
The memory test will help also.

The best way to test your RAM is to download Memtest86 and run it overnight. If it passes that the RAM isn't your problem.

Yes, that is TOO low on the 12v rail. Whether that reading is accurate or not is another question. Getting a measurement off of a 12v fan lead might verify that if you have a tester available.

So my mother's Geforce 6200 fan has started to catch on the sides of the heatsink, I have no clue if its because the little axle inside the fan has warped, or due to overheating or maybe even in need of greasing.
My first question would be, is there a way to find out if it is even fixable? Second, if not, are any of you familiar with any north american component dealer stores that I may find?

I'm located in Odessa, FL
Ordering online isn't really an option tho if I absolutely had to I would, I'm more interested in just going to some store and snatching up a new heatsink for it.

I was wondering if there was any diagnostic tool out there that could determine if my CPU is kicking the bucket?

My graphics card is fried at the moment, but I also think that either my CPU or RAM is dying. I notice that my computer is running VERY slowly. I'm not sure if this could be contributed to the dead/dying graphics unit, but I'm worried nonetheless.

Hi there,

I have a PCI-E slot that doesn't seem to work with a 9500gt. The 9500gt worked for many months then all of a sudden, no display appeared on my monitor one day. I switched to another PSU (weaker but still adequate), but still the same result. After doing some more hardware changes, I assumed it was a dead motherboard. Luckily I had a friend who had a spare EAH3450 Silent, and it worked! I have been using it ever since and my PC has ran with no problems.

I also tried a 9800gt and still no display. I checked the BIOS menu and saw that the display adapter was on PCI, changed it to PCI-E, but once again the same problem. I am not sure if this is a power problem since the 9500gt has such a low requirement and worked for a period of time. Any suggestions as to what might have happened?

A:Faulty cpu or the mb?

Go back to the most basic setup you can imagine...
One memory module, one video connection, and a cd or a simple hard drive... or an external floppy drive with a Windows 98 disk.
Attempt a boot.
If no boot, change to the other memory module. Attempt another boot.

The idea is to try various simple boots, and avoid using the hard drive if you can... use a different hard drive known good with Windows 95 or windows 98 installed... or boot to a floppy boot disk or a CD with Windows 98, 95, or ME disk on it..
Motherboards are pretty solid, and the Intell is one of the better ones. Processors rarely go out.
Common failures are (1) dead memory module, (2) failed power supply, or (3) bad hard drive. Very often if any of those three are bad, the computer will not start up.
Testing the power supply is more difficult. Once simple test is to watch the back of the power supply with a strong light. Have somebody else press the <ON> button while you watch to see if the fan blades on the power supply turn. If they turn only 1/8 turn to 1 turn and quit, the power supply is usually bad and is the likely problem.
Better yet, buy or borrow a power supply tester. They cost anywhere from $9 to $29, depending on quality or complexity.

Oh well, it's all academic now as I've got an RMA sorted, collection tomorrow and then replacement drive in a few days.

As it happens, it took ages for the WD diagnostics tool to read the drive and the estimated time went up and up and up to around 40 hours before it got past the bad bit. Now it's showing under 2 hours left.

If you 'nudge' the tower and it continues, that might suggest a loose IDE connection.

Greetings.
Last Christmas, I ordered a 1TB Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive online. When it arrived, it did not work at all, for my network did not detect the drive, even with seemingly nothing wrong.
Since then, I have called Iomega and replaced the drive, and this one arrived a few days ago. Since its initiation (that is, after it being plugged into my router) the bottom indication LED on the drive has been flashing between orange and blue, which is apparently due to the drive failing to detect a DHCP server.
What is it that I have to do next to fix it?

A:Faulty NAS

Do you assign IP numbers on your network, or do you let the router do so?

If DHCP Server is enabled on the router, it'll assign an IP#. If not, then DHCP won't even be detected. Now, if you DO have DHCP Server enabled on the router, you're probably looking at another dud - this time with the nic in the NAS being bad where the other one was a bad controller. Or even a bad cable.

Things to check.....
Cables to the drive and motherboard are seated all the way in.
Make sure the drives jumpers for master and slave are correct.
Is the drive detected correctly in device manager? Is there any exclamation points?

Try these out first before assuming you need a new drive.

A:defective gpu or faulty psu?

I looked up ntoskrnl.exe and hit on the Tom's Hardware site. Go here Ntoskrnl Windows 10 and see if anything helps you there.

This tells me it could even be your motherboard. Although, generally, high video usage generally will get you errors, so it could be the video card. Or even faulty RAM. I think the PSU would be the least suspect of all, then the motherboard, you say RAM is fine, so for me, I'd have the video card checked.

Are you playing only one game or several? If only one, that could be suspect also.

A:Cpu At 100% Due To Faulty Driver? W/ Hjt Log

Hello bravestarr5 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. There are a couple of housekeeping items to clean up so let's do that while you are here.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.I also do not see any anti-virus or firewall software installed. You should definitely have a good antivirus to stop infections before they can start and spread. Here are 2 free anti-virus programs that are available for personal use (I use these on various machines and they are both good):Avast Home EditionAVG Anti-VirusYou should also have a good firewall for blocking unwanted access to and from your computer. These also are free for personal use:Kerio Personal FirewallZoneAlarmIt is best to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. As to the AOL issue, if the connection speed and browsing are not affected then it could just be a funky tray icon and I wouldn't worry about it. If it is causing problems then youshouldcontact AOL to see if a fix or workaround is available since it deals directly with their software.Cheers.OT

Could somebody write down telltale symptoms for PSU struggling with too heavy load? If any? Or how to see if the PSU isn't quite enough for the system? or if it's enough. Symptoms besides the obvious crashing...

A:Signs of faulty PSU?

Look at the voltages reported by BIOS or some system health utility. They should all be within 5% of the nominal value (that's 11.4-12.6, 4.75-5.25, 3.14-3.47)

Put a CD in all your optical drives, power off. Turn the computer on again and see if it can manage to spin up all the hard drives plus the CDs.

Hi from sevenforums,
Your NAS isn't included in the homegroup. Your NAS can be the file sharer as it is.

To setup homegroup chose the laptop and join using the desktop.

Leave the Homegroup:

Set on all computer to Home Networks see below:

Hello! Here's my situation, I have recently purchased a new processor (Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W) to replace my old Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz processor. I installed everything properly.. not my first processor install.. and all the fans seem to be working fine however my screen tells me no signal. I then swapped out my new CPU for my old one and the computer booted normally. My new processor is compatible with my motherboard so I'm assuming it is just a faulty chip. Is there any way to check this other than popping it in a different computer? Or could it be something other than a faulty chip?

I appreciate the help!

Hi

I recently got a new Acer PC. It took me a couple of days to transfer across all the files from my old computer, as well as downloading some hefty applications I use: OpenOffice, iTunes etc.

Anyway, having done all this, the PC has started to crash a bit. Blue screen of death. Not every day, but a couple of times a week.

I guess it'll have to be returned, but I'm dreading having to set it all up again. Can I use either Windows backup or Acer eRecovery to make a complete image onto DVDs, including all applications, music files, settings & everything, so that when I get a working machine again I can just stick the discs in & be ready to go?

Cheers
Dennis

A:Backing up on faulty PC

Sadly, no. If you made a complete image, it would include everything from your computer -- including Windows itself, as well as whatever might be causing your computer to BSOD on you. I've seen a couple commercial packages that will back up specific applications and settings, but even then it's a bit of a crapshoot. Your best option is to reinstall everything yourself, as time consuming as that may be.

If you kept the installers from when you first downloaded the applications, you can at least save some download time.

Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood your post as wanting to reinstall Windows, not return the computer. Feel free to ignore me, and definitely follow Elvandil's advice.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out here. I have just bought a new PC, this is what I ordered:Acer Aspire XC-605 G3220 6GB 500GB DVDRW Tower Windows 8.1 DesktopNow, am I right in thinking that the DVDRW means that it is DVD writer? The only thing is, I've tried burning something using Nero and it just keeps stating "Insert disc". I've tried using a CD-R and a DVD+R disc which is what I've always used in the past. Now on checking Device Manager the Drive property states this next to the Device type:DVD/CD-ROM drivesand states:HL-DT-ST DVDROM DH50Nunder the DVD/CD Rom drives.Have I been sent the wrong thing? Or is there something I'm missing? Thanks for any help.

you can find id it's a burner with nero too, just run nero info tool. by the way, it looks as reader only. can you post the ID of your Aspire? something like thatDT.SRPSG.003 it must be the first part of your serial (DON'T POST the complete serial!!!)

emachines are junk, don't bother having them repaired.

for the price you would pay to have them repaired, you could buy a much better quality mobo than the crap that emachines uses just to have them fail again

Boiling down a problem to the simplest, single issue – my XP professional installation is not correctly installed and is not working correctly. The causes of this situation are faulty tech support, multiple repairs and fixes – almost all made thing worse.

Both Microsoft auto update and Windows Live OneCare state there is an important security update that needs to be installed. When I allow auto update or OneCare to perform the update – it fails. The error messages are as follows:

1. Security Update For Microsoft XML Core Service 4.0 Service Pack2 (kb936181 or kb916281) not installed.
2. Security Update For Cumulative Security Update Internet Explorer for Windows XP (kb936181) not installed.

What is the problem? What should be done? Why?

Hi there,

Here's my problem:
I have a problem burning CD-Roms. When I burn a CD the process terminates correctly. When I look on the CD, there's nothing there!!
When I put the CD in another CD-Rom drive, same thing...
The CD is only readable in a Burning software program (Nero). There I can make an image from the faulty CD-R. The image is OK!
What happens here?? It seems the burning laser generates too little power... So the burning is done, but the CD-R is usesless.

Please help!!!

This can be a driver issue, you may wish to Google your modem drivers, or ideally go to the modem's manufacturers support page.

PCI slot dial up modem. Hmm Sometimes it's a lot easier just to remove it, and purchase a new one, they're very very cheap now highspeed is in.

I upgraded my PC and used my old components to build another PC in an old case I have Everything seemed mobo now my Is faulty? to be fine up to the point where all of a sudden my LAN controller disappeared from Windows No Is my mobo now faulty? lights are flashing on Is my mobo now faulty? the port whether it's booting up or in Windows itself As a temporary measure I installed a wireless dongle which works but after about minute into booting Windows it disappears with the usual message about the USB port being able to perform faster etc The dongle eventually comes back to life In fact I also get this with any USB device I have installed the latest drivers although can no longer with the LAN controller as it can't find it anymore I tried to reinstall the OS via USB flash drive but states a system disk error instead although this drive works fine on other PCs Not only that the monitor shows only half the screen when booting into the BIOS It does show the full screen after resetting the CMOS but reverts back to shite after a reboot Is there anything else I can try before I give it the last rites I've got a feeling I must have shorted something against the case or it had a spazzy fit when it realised it was no longer my main PC Thanks very much and hope you can help

Hi I ve had an Audigy mp sound card sb faulty Audigy for a while but the motherboard also has a CMedia chip At some point I decided to try the CMedia chip instead to compare it uninstalled all audigy drivers and setup the cmedia I don t remember if I did this more than once but the result was that now neither work very well I am not concerned about the onboard CMedia chip but the Audigy s problem is that I can t install the driver as the driver installer won t accept that there is an Audigy installed Instead windows has found a quot Creative Audigy Audio faulty sb Audigy Processor WDM quot which is faulty sb Audigy listed in the device manager and the only sound device appearing under control panel sound audio is quot Emu Kx Audio BC quot whatever that is I have tried moving the card to another PCI slot etc looking in the registry for any mention of creative and removing it Still it will not install drivers The sound does work with these faulty sb Audigy other drivers but I still would like to know - is my Audigy broken thanks Chris nbsp

A:faulty sb Audigy

I'm not sure if this is it but did you disable the onboard sound in the BIOS?

I find this hillarious today I cleaned out my system with an air compressor I took out each card and HDD and cleaned the system Then put in the items one by one I also installed a hillarious - NIC Faulty new NIC I purchased yesterday as I need a bit driver for a system refresh I am doing Switch on the system - it powers on for a few seconds then back off - repeatedively I panicked The system is very critical No idea what I did wrong so I took it to the local store that I purchased some components from yesterday Looked at it first he was saying it could be the PSU or mobo Faulty NIC - hillarious and I said quot that cannot be right it was Faulty NIC - hillarious working just fine this morning quot So anyway eventually removed each card and added them in one by one turned out it was the new NIC that was faulty causing the system to do what it was doing phew Now I then got another NIC PCI-ex Edimax So I started to install the drivers on WS and whilst the drivers were installing the system was slowing down SEVERELY causing it to lock the mouse would slow down in terms of movement and the system just froze NEVER had this before but understood it can be a mixture of hardware drivers I did a hard reboot Windows stopped booting and froze Took out the card and booted into Windows - all fine downloaded the latest drivers just in case and then added in the card and installed the drivers Got further in terms of the driver installation but again - the system froze Took it back out all ok now reverted to my old NIC temporarily so what the heck is going on with NIC s these days They were so simple quot back in the day quot LOL another faulty NIC nbsp

In a Windows 2000 PRO PC, every time it is restarted (Start>Shutdown>Restart) the PC continues to run, but in the Restart process the light on the monitor goes from green to yellow, and that is as far as things go.

The PC keeps running, but nothing happens on the screen.

The only way to get the Windows going again is to shut it down completely, and then start it.

Checked Power Options in Control Panel, and 'Turn Off Monitor' is set to Never.

Any suggestions as to what causes this to happen, and how to solve the issue?

Thanks for the help.

Hello everyone I write to you as a last resort so I hope you will be able to help me with my problem or at least hint me in the right Faulty connection direction Problem I experience problems with my internet broadband connection when browsing Every - seconds the browser will be unable to find anything Just searching trying to find a connection this will happen for about seconds and then it s back on This is a big problem for me My setup Modem -- gt Router -- gt Stationary Computer All wired Hints Faulty connection The problem occours Faulty connection on every computer thats on the network My stationary wireless laptop or even a friends computer Roters channel changed No improvement Router replaced No improvement Modem replaced No improvement Router skipped Modem -- gt Stationary Computer No Improvement Switched to another phoneline box in the house st choice did not work at all nd choice offered no improvement Called support times they can offer me no more Support saw a problem with the connection while having a static IP on my systems This is now changed to a dynamic and they said it looked a lot better But still no improvement and it s exactly the same so I don t know what they were talking about Router and modem reset I experience this most often when browsing and not so often in online games I believe it must have something to do with the browser being more sensitive with a quick loss of connection where games will keep simulating an online state if it s only for a few seconds That further makes me believe that the connection is not lost for seconds but only for a few and therefore that the browser need to catch the connection in some sort of reset which makes it feel like a lot more time than the connection is actually lost This is only my theory Computers run XP and Vista There is of course nothing that is using up the bandwith It happens both when security is on and off Please forget about the router A direct cable from the modem does the same thing as already said I m no expert but I m not stupid either I believe I ve cut of every step that could be faulty but it s still there I really hope someone can help nbsp
