Need rules & email accts/settings from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 07...

Q: Need rules & email accts/settings from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 07...

I had a Windows XP corruption to my system folder wherein I had to reinstall my operating system and "wipe out" my harddrive.

I have my entire "old" harddrive with all settings, files, etc. on it, and now my computer is up and running with Windows Vista Business.

I have successfully added my old PST file to the new OS and it works, however how can I get my Outlook 2003 rules, email accounts, etc? I'm not able to "export" as I cannot run the old Outlook program?...

Are these files located somewhere that I can manually add them (replace, whatever) to the new Vista OS/hard drive?

Thanks in advance...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to import my email accounts & settings to the way they were before I did a custom install of Windows 7. For the life of me, I can't figure this out. I tried to follow tutorials and nothing seems to work.

My situation is different also because I have 8 POP email accounts. Do I have to enter the email account information back in or can moving the .pst files do this?

Did you use Outlook 2003's built-in feature to Export before? Or, did you just copy the .pst file to a safe place while reinstalling Windows?

I am having trouble configuring Outlook 2010 on a new Windows 10 Pro clean install so that mail from multiple Gmail and Comcast accounts all go into 1 PST file. I would like to have 1 inbox for all 5 emailaccounts.

Even when I use ?Manually configure Server settings?? andspecify an existing PST on D:\Outlook, Outlook creates a new PST file on C:\Users\(My Username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.

Any help out there?

A:How to configure Outlook 2010 to have 1 inbox for multiple email accts

You can do it this way with Mail App

If you want to link all your mail into one inbox you can do it.

Open Mail either from all App or Taskbar if you have it set up that way

Once open click on Settings found in bottom Right Hand Corner
Then go to Manage Account
Then go to
Change mailbox sync settings
Once done
Press Save
Do that with every Account you have
There like

Then click Link Inboxes
Tick which Inboxes you want to link
Also you can Name the link to anything you want to
Once done Click Save

Now when you receive Mail from any of your contact etc
It will now come into one Inbox
Have done it and it does work

This saves you having to click on each Mail inbox

If you want to revert back just
Click on the inbox linked untick
Press Save and they are all back showing one by one

Anyone know the trick? I have a friend who's son is in Iraq where many of the Marines use the same lap top for emails and this has created a spam ring the likes of which I have never seen.

Hi The scenario Outlook running on XP Pro SP connecting to Exchange This only happens to one user no more users involved The problem The user complained her emails were being duplicated After checking her PC she had two suspicious rules one named after our previous exchange server and the other one named after our current exchange server The rules were duplicating messages to one folder each inside the mailbox I deleted 2003 rules Outlook regenerating both rules but then the rule named after our current exchange server reappeared but now using a different folder inside the mailbox I deleted it again three times with the same result I then tried the cleanrules switch but the rule was regenerated again I've been doing some research about this but it seems nobody in the whole world has had this issue I started to think that the user was recreating the rule but after confronting her it really seems that somehow the rule got hooked with Exchange's database I don't want to recreate the profile or the mailbox before knowing if somebody has a better idea

I have a funny situation where I have emails sent to an Outlook client pc coming in from a faxserver.
All mostly normal.
Up until recently, email, with attachment as the fax file, would show as being "read" only if the fax printed.
If it DIDN'T print the fax for whatever reason, it would show as being "not read".
I don't know how this was done since I inherited this system as the new IT guy.
This has stopped working and printing is ok but emails all show as being UNread.

I am not sure if this was done on the Outlook client pc or not! I see no Rules or macros that would do this. I see none at all and I don't think they were deleted.

Can Outlook's Rules only change an email to "read" IF it prints ok?

Anyone know of another way?

my rules won't run in Outlook 2003. Every time I create a new rule and select "run rules now on messages already in this folder", nothing happens. Then if I create the same exact rule again, it works. But then new incoming emails that the rule should apply to don't follow the rule.
Also, if I try to run rules manually through tools/rules and alerts, all my rules are listed, but when I click on Run Rules Now... a window pops up and asks which rules to run, but there are no rules to select.
Also, when I first open tools/rules and alerts, I can't delete any rules.

I recently downgraded from Office 2007 Beta2 when the trial ran out. This caused a couple of other problems which I have fixed. Could this be another downgrade problem?

I am having trouble creating rules in Outlook 2003 since upgrading to Windows 7.

When I right click on a message and select 'create rule', I then follow the instructions to create the rule. After applying the rule and telling it to run the rule on messages in current folder, the rule does not work.

I have then gone into 'tools- rules and alerts' to see what's what. The rule is in the list, but there is no description to the rule and when the rule is selected I cannot edit or delete the rule.

I have upgraded Windows and Office.

Any suggestions?

I am changing my Internet company next week and this will mean I get a new set of email addresses that I can set up to my hearts desire in my new domain.

Question is:

Will all my current rules apply to the mail I receive at present from different people after they have updated there info with my new address? Or will I have to delete the rules and start again as and when I receive the mails? I am thinking probably the latter will apply though

A:Outlook Rules and new Email address

You 'll be using the same version of Outlook with the new email address as well right? You could export the rules (Tools > Rule Wizard > Options > Export Rules) just in case it loses them. Then import them again later when you've got the new email address(es) set up.

Hi, everyone.
I need to do a clean reinstall of my OS.

Anyway, before I FDISK everything out of existence, I need to back up all my crucial information, which mainly ends up being our email folders, email rules, and our half dozen or so email account configurations.

Can anyone help me with simple step-by-step instructions for backing up email folders, rules, and account info (SMTP server info, passwords, etc.) for Outlook 2002 (not Outlook express - everything online seems only to pertain to Outlook Express) on Windows XP?

In the past, I have tried just copying my .pst file to a cdrom, but that didn't backup our rules wizard rules or our email account configurations.

If I am leaving out any critical info, please let me know. Your help is appreciated!

This appears to be a common problem, with many solutions, though I have yet to find one that works for me. When using Outlook 2003 with Word 2003 set to be the email editor, Word opens and works fine to CREATE a new email. However, when trying to REPLY TO or FORWARD an email, I get the error message "Microsoft Word is set to be your email editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The outlook email editor will be used instead...," and when I click OK to that message the native Outlook email editor opens. Word 2003 worked fine with Outlook 2003 replying to or forwarding emails till this morning, but the behavior described above now applies. The OS, by the way, is Windows 10. I have tried to both "repair" and "reinstall" the 2003 Office 2003 suite, both to no avail. Would appreciate a much needed solution to this puzzle.

I have read, but did not understand, articles on the memory limitations in Outlook 2003 when using Rules. I think I understood, that there is a limit to the number of Rules. Each rule uses approximately X percentage of the memory.

The memory limit was expressed in some computer unit of measurement and then further qualified. What I am seeking to know would be expressed in a approximate number of rules.

If you're familiar with this topic and can help me I would certainly appreciate it.

Thank you

Over the past several weeks, I have noticed that Outlook 2003 is changing my AT&T mail settings for both POP and STMP. In fact, it seems to be reverting to a previous version of my email settings.

A:Outlook 2003 Keeps Changing POP/SMTP Settings

i would try redoing your profile. in the control panel go to mail. in there you will find your profiles and your data files.

close outlook.
go in the data files section and locate on your harddrive where the .pst files are. make a copy of all of your .pst files.
then go to the profiles section in mail(control panel) and delete and recreate your profile.
open outlook and then close it so it creates a new pst file.
go where the new pst file is and paste your old pst file over it.
start outlook, you should have all your same email, folders, contact, calendar, etc
then add your email account and you should be golden

be careful not to screw you pst files up, back it up to a usb drive before you go deleting stuff.

I have two email mailboxes that are set up in my Outlook, my own personnel one and an additional shared mailbox. My question is:
Is it possible to have the desktop alert message to appear when an email comes into the second mailbox (it currently only flashes up when an email comes into my personnel aco****)? Is this possible?

A:Outlook 2003 Desktop Alert Settings query

Not that I know of. I usually just mark the inbox as a favorite so it appears in the favorite section and watch the number in parenthesis beside the favorite. To mark a folder as a favorite you will need to right-click on it and select "add to favorite folders." Another spin on this is to have a rule setup that automatically forwards the mail messages from the second account to your primary. The problem with this though is redundant (repeated) data.

A:Solved: OUtlook 2003: Moving autocomplete settings to a different PC

I dont know if you have this feature but if you have the full Office 2003 edition you might.

1. Click Start > All Programs
2. Select Microsoft Office, and highlight Microsoft Office Tools.
3. Click Save My Settings Wizard.
4. Go through the Wizard. Dont change any settings.
5. When complete navigate here: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\
6. Cut and paste this file "New Settings File.OPS" to a USB or CD.
7. Place that file (New Settings File.OPS) from the USB or CD on the computer you would like to transfer settings to in My Documents.
8. On the computer you would like to transfer setting do this:

1. Click Start > All Programs
2. Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard.
3. Click the button "Restore Previous Settings To This Machine".
4. Click Next and specify, on the new machine, where the file is that you pasted from the USB or CD.
5. Click Finish and you're all done.

Hi folks,

Bit of an odd one;

- when I create an email it's in English (UK)
- when I reply to an email it's in English (US)

I've checked all the usual places; regional settings, spelling tab in Outlook options, checked Word too. Can't get to the bottom of it. Any help?

While trying to fix an issue with selecting text, I got a .cab error that has now been fixed.

However, now when I open Outlook, it is asking to establish a new email account, as if I am a first time user. i can't access the existing email account, and all of the emails, folders etc. An archive.pst file still exists and by the size appears to contain all emails, folders etc.

Does anyone know how I can locate and reinstate the existing email account to access the existing emails etc.?

If this is not possible, can a new account be established and the existing emails, folders etc. in the archive .pst file imported?

Try this:
Disable outlook express through windows add and remove windows components then re-enabbled outlook express.
If that doesn't work, try this:
Start> Run> type:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\ole32.dll then OK.
Click OK at the registration message.

I can't get outlook 2003 to divert incoming emails to another email accout. There is not a "DIVERT" option in the list of optioins. There is a "FORWARD" option and it works but it sends the message as a forwarded message with the lead in stuff in the email as it arrives at the second account.
The MS help web page indicates that there should be a "DIVERT" option that will make the message received by the second email account look like it had been sent directly to it. This is what I want but the "DIVERT" option is not shown in the "Rules and Alerts" menu options.
What am I doing wrong?

A:Outlook 2003 email diverting

I believe that diverting or redirecting incoming e-mails in Outlook requires sending and receiving e-mails through a Microsoft Exchange 2000, 2003, or 2007 account. Most home and personal accounts do not use Exchange.

Welcome to Bleeping Computer, jscatam1128.

Here is the solution to your issue:

Turn off your computer.
Disconnect your PC from the cable modem. Now launch Outlook. Outlook will try to do a send/receive cycle, but it will fail pretty quickly. Now, you can open the outbox and delete the stuck message. Close Outlook, turn your computer off again, reconnect the PC, boot up, and you should be back in business.

Hi ejcohen3

Found this in the newsgroups, I don't have Outlook 2003 installed yet, to try it.

Rename Outcmd.dat to .old with Outlook closed. Next time you open Outlook,
you can create all of your toolbars, arrange them as you like per folder.
Close Outlook and copy the Outcmd.dat file you created when you recustomized
the toolbars. Save this in a safe place. Whenever you add customizations
to the toolbar, remember to copy that file to your safe place. If your
toolbars corrupt, all you need to do is rename the current file and
substitute the most recent backup.

Depending on what verison(s) of Outlook you're using, and what e-mail server you're trying to connect to, you may only need to have the correct userid and password and it might be easier just to create the account fresh.

When I try to send email, it gets stuck in the Outbox. When I run the "Test Account Settings," I receive a message saying that Outlook cannot connect to the outgoing mail server and to check my SSL or port settings, and that if the problem persists to check with my ISP.

I am using Comcast as my ISP and I have contacted them. My settings are correct (Port 110 for incoming and 25 for outgoing) according to them.
When I called Comcast they had me change the outgoing Port to 587. This did not fix the problem!
The only additional help Comcast can provide is transfering to Microsoft where they want me to buy their service plan. Is there another way to fix this problem?
Thank you!

A:Outlook 2003 Send Email Trouble

Welcome to TSF

Make sure Tools/Options/Mail setup, and tick the box- Send immediately when connected is ticked.

Are you able to delete it when its stuck in there?

Outgoing Email isn't sent.

Failure to connect to the outgoing SMTP mail server is usually caused when ISP's begin blocking outgoing mail that is not sent through their own Email servers. We normally are able to work around this block by sending Outgoing mail traffic on port 587 rather than port 25.

1. Open your Email account properties. Recheck the outgoing SMTP server settings.
2. Outgoing SMTP server:
3. Outgoing SMTP server port: change from 25 to 587
4. Outgoing SMTP server requires authentication
5. Authentication uses same password as Incoming server

This is a first response, until I dig deeper.smtp doesn't need a virus check, once a virus is on your comp, it is way too late.message edited by Johnw

I use Outlook 2003 for my email and have a 9700 Blackberry device. I noticed 2 major problems recently:

1. Every time I open Outlook I get an error message stating "Personal Folders was closed improperly and is being checked for problems" and takes a while to open up.

2. Random emails are being deleted from my inbox. The time and date of the message still shows, but the 'from' and 'subject line' and the entire body of the email message is deleted. The messages are still on my Blackberry.

Anyone have any experience with this? Should I upgrade to Outlook 2007 or 2010?

Thanks very much.

Below is an address from an email I rec'd in Outlook 20013, spam setting on Hi & blocking unwanted senders when their email arrive.

However when I chkd blocked senders, they weren't there. I'm no tech, but this looks like a hack to get around spam filters as I've noticed several recently.

Is there a way to send these emails to the spam folder?

How many spam emails are you getting? Is it just this one? Are they coming from the same

I have multiple email accounts download into my Inbox folder; each email account has its own unique name under Account Settings. When I try to "Sort by Email Account," the groupings are correct (i.e. each group represents one account); however, the grouping title is says the same name for all of them.

Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it?

Hi carlyman

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

This sounds interesting.

Are the e-mail accounts subaccounts of one ISP or each a different domain as in:
1) a Gmail account
2) your own ISP account
3) and maybe another free account like ?

You mention each account has its own unique name under Account Settings. Does this mean the accounts do not have their own unique name listed under the E-mail Account Header column?

When one of my users attempts to send email, he's getting the error "an unexpected error has occurred" He is able to receive email and read it normally.

Any ideas? He's using Windows XP Pro and Office 2003 SP2.

Does the program then close - that is, does this error cause a crash? Or is he just unable to send email?

I'm stumped I am running Windows XP with Outlook I use Comcast for my ISP and email When I try to send an email out with Outlook it won't send There is no error message and it is not in the outbox but it never shows up in the recipient's inbox After tons of troublshooting I've determined that it won't let me send an email with my signature attached If I use comcast's website I can use my signature and it goes through fine I changed my signature and used my partner's signature which is exactly like mine and it went through So I figured I would just paste his into the create a signature page and then change the contact info and name That did email send with signature won't 2003 Outlook my not work I tried to create a word doc with my signature and paste it from there but that did not work However if I hand type my signature then it goes through I can only guess that something between Outlook 2003 won't send email with my signature my computer and the comcast server is marking Outlook 2003 won't send email with my signature my message as spam when it reads my signature I have no idea how to fix this Any suggestions I've tried turning off the scan email option on McAfee but that didn't work either

A:Outlook 2003 won't send email with my signature

The problem is not with Comcast. Try removing your account completely from OE. You will not lose your mail. From there just set it back up. I work for an ISP and you would be amazed at the problems that come in and this simple task fixes the issues.

My company is in the process of converting a large portion of our users from storing email in pst files located on the user's hard drive to storing them on the server (mailbox). Is there a setting in a .prf file that will allow me to do this? With earlier testing I was able to setup a new profile and have that direct email to the mailbox, but the user's pst file(s) along with their other settings (signatures) would not be brought forward to the new profile.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We are using Outlook 2003 SP3.
