Office 2007 icon size in Quick Acess Toolbar

Q: Office 2007 icon size in Quick Acess Toolbar

Hi all,

A few days ago, I purchased a new 19" widescreen monitor, and have a question regarding Office 2007.

The resolution of the monitor is 1680 x 1050 32-bit, and when I open up any of the Office programs, the Quick Access Toolbar icons are small. I have been unable to find how to use larger icons with the Office 2007 programs. Is there (if at all) any way to use larger icons in the Quick Access Toolbar?

Cheers,
Mike T.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have lost access to the file because of the change in file formats, it was in windows old but how do I recover it and then change the file formats? It strikes me this may be a problem in a business or a charity who just didn't have

Several threads talk of icon size but always the answer refers to the Taskbar no matter that the questioner often asks about Quick Launch icons.

Win7-HPx64 offers easy changes from small to large icons in the Taskbar but QL icons seem to have one size only - small.

In trying to set up / maintain W7 for an older person I want to offer her a QL with large icons, just like the Taskbar.

Do I ditch the QL and just pin apps to the Taskbar?

Any help appreciated.

I've searched for a while now but can't seem to find a way to increase the size of the icons on the desktop toolbar. Maybe it's something that can't be done but it'd be good because they look silly that small when you have large icons set on the taskbar

Hi - newbie here. I joined because I am a new Windows 7 64 bit user and am clueless. I was able to find out how to set up a quick launch toolbar and pin My Computer to it thanks to this forum! I have searched extensively bit haven't found an answer to this one:

How can I pin the Network Icon to the quick launch bar (that I successfully set up thanks to you guys)? I was able to create a desktop icon but when I drag it to the taskbar it only gives a "pin to show desktop" choice. No choice to pin to quick launch toobar (taskbar whatever it's called).

Thanks!

When I downloaded the Weatherbug program I checked the box next to "add icon to quick launch toolbar" Now the icon [temperature] appears on my taskbar in two places. One next to the start button and one next to the date. I have Foxfire 26.0 running on Windows 7.
I would like to remove the icon next to the start button. How is that done?
Thanks

Did you try "right clicking" the icon and select "Unpin this program from taskbar"?

FYI, the "Quick Launch Bar" is no longer available by default, but can be added by following the instructions at the following site;

I used a freeware program to extract an icon from an exe file. I then inverted the colors and got something ugly but very different from the previous year's icon. When I drag a copy to the Quick Launch bar it reverts to the original icon. In properties it shows the new version. How do I get it to show the changed icon?

I did search. I apologize if this has been asked a thousand times already.

How can I use large icons in the Windows Explorer toolbar? Specifically, the "Change your view" icon that lets you choose from icons, details, list, tiles, etc.

My hand is not that steady and I spend half my time trying to hit this button and missing. In XP I could just right-click on the toolbar, select Customize, and select Large Icons at the bottom of the dialog. This feature (like many other customization features in Win7) appears to be hidden or missing. Have I missed something obvious here?

When using the Quick Launch Toolbar in Windows 7, there is one big problem: In 'Large Icons' view the top/bottom margins are too large and make the taskbar slightly higher resulting in my normal pinned shortcuts to be aligned to the top of it, which looks very ugly and untidy.

Please see image below for an example:
Is there any way to customize or tweak the top/bottom margins of the Quick Launch Bar so that they're identical to those of the regular pinned shortcuts, and prevent this from happening??

Thanks!

ok I did a lot of research and a lot of people seems to think they know what I am talking about but infact they icon change toolbar/quicklaunch other than size large/small. dont and i have try and tried many of the methods they suggested and its obviously not working thats why im posting here I want to manually change the icon size of the toolbar quicklaunch NOT the taskbar but most likely the pinned icon via toolbar quicklaunch in window this might also be related to changing icon size of the pinned icon on taskbar but its not the taskbar thats troubling me it is the toolbar quicklaunch icons options listed and exists large and small icon change toolbar/quicklaunch icon size other than large/small. size large is too large small change toolbar/quicklaunch icon size other than large/small. is too small i believe and strongly believe there is a way to change it either through registry or resource hack some dll file i donno which but i would like to get some help from experts please i hope to see other people out there sharing the same pain as i do these are the things that ive tried - shellicon in registry size to whatever it is has not helped - desktop - gt personalize - gt windows color - gt advanced settings - gt captions etc none has helped - HKEY CURRENT USER - gt Control Panel - gt Desktop - gt WindowMetricsFind quot MinWidth quot which obviously has no effect on the toolbar quiclaunch icon size

as you can see from picture below, same icons. but large is too large, small is too small. i wish there is a change in registry where i could modify this as i do not wish to use 3rd party dock.

those 3rd party program looks nice, but since they are not part of the taskbar, windows that are opened block them, and even if they do come with functions to be always on top, they block the windows that are opened instead.

unless theres a 3rd party dock that can be part of the taskbar, im wont be interested in it.

Hi and welcome.
I think your issue is directly related to Citrix and your network.
I think it dissapears because the actual link is not avaialble on bootup until you login. Also your network may have something already in place that doesn't allow it.

Grrr! In the past, every windows update for outlook would return the icon to quick launch. I could delete it and that would be it for a long while. Since a recent update though, it seems MS is returning that icon to QL on every boot. Tired of repeatedly deleting it.

Is this "normal" behavior now? Any way to stop it?

I need to set up a new user profile and would like to map my existing toolbar preferences from my old profile to my new profile. It used to be that you could copy a configured file (forgot the type/extension/location) and paste into the new user profile overwriting the default toolbar configuration file with the desired one.

Need to know if 2007 manages the toolbars similarly and if so then where are the toolbar preference files located?

Corrupt installer databases are to blame. This appears to appen with Office and Adobe pdf products. The installer database contains your .ICO or icon files. Sometimes the icons also mysteriously disappear from the porgramfiles directory as well. I have not found a solution as of yet and this continues to happen after fresh reformats. As for reinstall or repair sometimes these fail due to the corrupt installer database as is the case for me. If this is the case this thread may help you. THe program sugusted by Windows star filetypemanager may help you locate the missing installers and replace the missing file extension icons. With a corrupt installer database though its difficult.

Hello,

When I try to open a 2007 Word or Excel document I recieve as an attachment in Outlook 2003, I get the following message:
"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". Office 2007 compatibility pack was installed and it still did not work.

I then uninstalled Office 2003, uninstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack and then I ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. I updated my OS (currently has Windows XP SP3) with all updates, reinstalled Office 2003, installed Office 2003 SP 3 and then reinstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack.

I still get the same message when I try to open an Office 2007 attachment in Outlook 2003.

OS is Windows XP SP3 fully updated
Office 2003 SP 3 fully updated

Any suggestions?

I want to increase the type font display size globally, for all applications & windows features, but I want to preserve the smaller desktop icon size. Is there any way to adjust them independently?

I know about the advanced display settings for window color & appearance, and that has some good settings, but it is not sufficient, because it does not change most instances of text as it displays in applications.

Thanks for any suggestions.

A:Any way to change type size but NOT icon size?

Here's my whole list of font size change settings, one of which might provide the answer for you. You've probably tried some of them, but see if there's something here that might change the font size on those icons, without changing the size of the icons themselves:

1. This is the one of the main setting tools for setting various locations of Windows font sizes. Right-click on the Desktop and go to Personalize, Window Color and Appearance. Click on Advanced, and in the drop-down menu, select the item that controls the location where you wish to change the font size. (Note: the last one, Window, does not have an option to control font size.)

2. DPI - Right click on Desktop, Personalize, On Personalization Page, go to left column to: Adjust Font size ? DPI, DPI Scaling: Click on Large scale (120 DPI), and click Apply.

3. Screen Resolution: Right-click on the Desktop, choose Screen Resolution, click on the down-arrow at the end of the Resolution box, and pick the desired resolution. Check OK.

4. Display: Right-click on the Desktop, select Personalize, then Display. From the 3 settings: Small, Medium, Large, if screen defaults to Medium (125% size for font and images) and that?s too large, use Small for 100% size (aka ?normal?)

5. At the lower right hand corner of every IE web page, there?s a Zoom control that lets you increase the size of every web page, and it stays at that Zoom setting for every page until/unless you change it.

6. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, General, Accessibility, Select Ignore font sizes specified on web pages. Click OK, then Apply, then OK.

7. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, uncheck all three:
Reset text size to Medium for new windows and tabs, and
Reset text size to Medium while Zooming, and
Reset Zoom level to 100% for new windows and tabs

8. Open Internet Explorer, click the Page button, click Text Size, and then select the size you want i.e. Large (Largest may be too large).

9. Ease of Access Center ? Go to either: Control Panel, All Control Panel Items, Ease of Access Center, Make Your Computer Easier to Use, Explore All Settings, and click on: Make this computer easier to see (Optimize Visual Display). OR go to Control Panel, and Explore all settings. Under the following heading, Make things on the screen larger, select: Change the size of text + icons. This takes you to the dpi settings screen.

10. If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, use command/ctrl + your scroll on a web page to increase the font size.

11. MS Office apps have a Zoom slider at the lower right hand corner of every page, that lets you increase the size of every Office app page, and it stays at that Zoom setting until/unless you change it.

12. MS Word templates: In the Ribbon or QuickAccess Bar select Styles, Normal, and when the little arrow appears, select Modify. Under Formatting you can change the default font size (12) to whatever size you wish. At the bottom of the screen select Only in this documents OR New documents based on this template. Click OK. You can change this font size setting for any/all other MS Word templates as well.

13. In IE and FireFox (for current use ? not permanent): press Ctrl and the + key to increase screen size. To reduce screen size press Ctrl and the ? key. (To restore screen size to 100% press Ctrl and 0.)

14. FireFox (permanent setting): go to Tools, Options, Content, and on that screen set the new default text size that you wish. Then, click Advanced and there are additional default text size settings. Plus, in the box that says "Minimum text size" select None, and down below, UNcheck the box that says "allow pages to choose their own fonts instead of my selections above."

15. Magnifier ? To Magnify Entire Page: Start, Search pane, and type: magnifier. When it comes up click the plus (+) sign. The entire page will magnify. OR go to: Control Panel, All Control Panel Items, Ease ... Read more

Wow I've Googled this one to death so desperation mode is on.

Here is where the settings I'm speaking of are located...

Control Panel->>Personalization-->>"Widnows Color">>Advanced Appearance Settings>>
Then select ICON
then change the setings for Horizontal Icon Spacing and Vertical Icon Spacing.

There are the default setting I can't find.

So, what is/are the default Windows 7 settings for the following desktop options.

1. Icon SIZE (and the "Font" and "Font Size" for it)
2. Icon Spacing Horizontal
3. Icon Spacing Vertical

And if possible, what are the Windows 7 defaults numbers/settings for the entire Control Panel->>Personalization-->>"Widnows Color">>Advanced Appearance Settings>> Section??
Thanks.

A:A Quick Launch Toolbar "Toolbar" has glued itself to my IE

Hi Paul, and welcome to the board.

It's a well known parasite: http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/BrowserAid.html

Please do this:

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.

That ought to get rid of most of your spyware.

When you've done all that, go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please show us its contents.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Cheers,

My wife recently had a new hard drive installed, so while I was rebuilding her system, I thought I'd install her Office XP disk, rather than the previously used Office '97, it seemed to make sense as she is running XP Home.

The install went OK, but I couldn't find any sign of the Office Toolbar. I tried to do another install, where it gave me the option to add new stuff, and I did manage to load what appeared to be, what I was looking for.

Now she has a folder within the office area, that contains all the Shortcut Bar items, but no apparent way to convert them into a toolbar. I'm obviously missing something, so if anyone knows what it is, I'd be very grateful.

Chris

Running Vista Ultimate (32 bit) on HP Media Center Desktop Unit (8100y). Each time system is booted up and Outlook 2007 is accessed for the first time, Microsoft Office 2007 begins to reconfigure itself. Neither canceling of the configuation process nor allowing the process to complete seems to have any apparent effect on subsequent operations.

Performed repair function on the Office application without any discernible effect. Any help in resolving this issue would be truly appreciated!

I have unwanted programs inserted into my quick launch toolbar. How do I stop this from happening?

A:quick launch toolbar

you can "right mouse button click" on any program icon that you don't want and select delete, and it'll be gone.

often when you install a new program it'll offer you the option of not creating a quick launch icon, ie, if you read what's coming up on the screen instead of clicking "ok" all the way through the installation steps :)

but ofcourse some programs don't :( then you just have to delete it manually after.

Good Day,

I've often used the Files and Transfer Wizard to move files in the Windows XP environment, including those for people moving from Office 2003 to 2007, however, I've just been asked to move a person from a computer that would result in them moving backwards from Office 2007 to Office 2003; is this possible? What concerns should be considered? Obviously if they have a number of documents saved in the 2007 it could be problematic, though could the compatibility pack offered by Microsoft offset that concern? Thoughts? Thanks.

Good Evening Everyone,

I have a few questions concerning the Installation of 2010 Office. I know that I have to uninstall Office 2007. I have no clue on how to save or where to save my documents from Office 2007. The documents consist of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and a few various folders. Should I from the Start Menue click on Documents select all and copy. Where should I place this copy? Can It be left on my hard drive? After I install Office 2010 can I then copy the "Document File" and place in Documents. Will all the files end up in the proper place for their programs, Word files go to Word, Excel goes to Excel so on and so forth. Thank you so much for all your help and cooperation. It is greatly appreciated. I hope I described my situation correctly. I look forward to hearing from you.

A:2010 Office Professional Plus to Replace 2007 Office Small Business

But you don't have to uninstall Office 2007 to upgrade to 2010. That's the general rule as you can generally upgrade from lower SKUs to higher SKUs (Small Business to Pro Plus). As far as saving your documents, you can really save them wherever you like on your hard drive or on any CD or flash drive if you wish to do so. As far as file types, after 2010 is installed, they should all register properly for their programs so that Word documents open in Word, Excel Documents in Excel, etc.

Though if you have all of you documents already saved within "Documents" or "My Documents" or some other folder you've set aside and you want to uninstall 2007 before upgrading to 2010, the documents themselves will be retained when you uninstall, you just won't be able to really do much with them until you install 2010.

Hello

I installed office 2007 ultimate alongside office 2003 professional. Microsoft outlook and publisher was removed from my office 2003 prior to office 2007 installation. I also opted not to install microsoft outlook 2007.

It seems that each time I load word 2007 or 2003 after previously opening the other version (ie. load 2003 followed by 2007 OR load 2007 followed by 2003), a window would opened up indicating that either the configuration or installation process is taking place, hence delaying the startup. However, once the program has started, it would run without problem. I do not intend to unistall my 2003. There was no problem loading excel 2003/2007, powerpoint 2003/2007 and access 2003/2007.

I am running on Windows XP SP2 that is regularly updated. Thank you

Hey All,

Here is my issue. The Company we consult for has not transitioned all of the way to Office 2007. We have a number of machines that still have Office 2003. Compatibility Pack works on almost all issues.

Current issue is one of our users received a PowerPoint 2003 that has embedded PowerPoint 2007 files. When the user opens the PowerPoint 2007 file Office 2003 shuts down. He has to download the 2007 file to his desktop.

From what I can see this is because the file conversion process shuts down Office 2003 before attempting to open the PowerPoint 2007 file.

Another issue that may be complicating the error is we had to run a Fixit patch from Microsoft that was causing Excel, Word and PowerPoint to be scanned which caused long opening times. I don't remember the KB article for that one at the moment but will find it if I need to.

Thanks for any help in advance.

The 2003/2007 setup is not one that she really wants to mess with (i.e., she has no interest whatsoever in uninstalling the two Office suites that she currently has), so ideally she would like to have Office 2010 installed temporarily (for the duration of her course) on the machine without interfering with the current setup.
What is the most painless way of doing this that does not involve shelling out for a second computer?

A:Installing Office 2010 on a machine with Office 2003/2007

Hi, welcome to the forum,
I had a similar situation here but in the end I opted out.

I removed both Office 2003 and 2007 and installed 2010, I then used virtual XP and installed 2003 there, 2007 and 2010 are too similar and the dll's will 'bite' along the way.

Even my 2003 and 2007 gave me issues after some time.

Have you checekd what the Microsoft Support site says?

I have an Excel file which has some moving objects as well as some drop down menus. I recently installed MS Office 2007 after erasing 2003. The Excel tables now are disabled, the file now looks like a picture, only the fields outside of the content are really clickable.I have tried to enable all macros, downloaded the MS compatibility pack, still same issue. Any suggestions/ideas? The file works in 2013 and 2016.I can share the file upon request ...

Thank you for your suggestions, here an update: I got the file working - how, no idea. I re-opened the original attachment, deleted the one I had on my PC and voila, it works.

Hi everyone,

When I first got my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1), it had a preinstalled trial version of Microsoft Office 2007. I removed it via the control panel (Programs and Features) and installed Office 2010. However, I still get Office 2007 updates via Windows Update. They even installed successfully.
There are no Office 2007 components listed under Programs and Features.

Why am I getting Office 2007 updates although I've got only Office 2010?...

A:receiving Office 2007 updates but have got Office 2010 installed

This should help:
How do I uninstall the 2007 Office suites if I cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature?

Am not sure what to do with these updates:

Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553181) 32-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553310) 32-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553455) 32-Bit Edition

Windows Updates says they are important.

I do not have Office 2010 installed. Office 2007 is installed.

My security software keeps telling me I am at risk because my operating system is not up to date.

Any thoughts on what I should do?

A:Receiving updates for Office 2010 but Office 2007 is installed.

If your computer is relatively new, it may have come with a trial install of Office 2010 - check the Start menu, and the Programs & Features listing.
You may also have installed Viewers for things like PowerPoint 2010, which still require updates.

I am running a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate that I got through an academic program. I need to install a key for Office 2010 on a new system. The cost for the key only is about $20 less than a 3 license traditional disk version, so I am considering upgrading every system.

However, I don't want to lose MS Access or MS Publisher to upgrade.

If I install Office 2010 Home & Student over Office 2007 Ultimate, will the extra programs from Office 2007 still be available to me? I know they will not be upgraded, but having a few different versions floating around doesn't bother me.

A:Office 2007 Ultimate to Office 2010 Home & Student

No... those two programs are not available in the student version...

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

Hello - I own multi-user version of Microsoft Office 2007 Pro and in May 2012 purchased a new ASUS A54C-TS91 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 2010 Starter Edition. I need Powerpoint and Outlook in addition to Excel and WORD. I tried to install the entire app. assuming certain "limited" components of 2010 would be overwritten with the "better"/more robust 2007 - however, while it appears Office 2007 Pro loaded properly and is shown in Control Panel with proper date as installed, there is no file size listed...... I have read several similar posts but wanted to provide specific details for my situation. Anyone have a similar issue - what is best solution? (i am a newbie to the group, so hope I didn't make a faux pas in relating my story). Any guidance is welcomed and appreciated. Minky

Um, I'm gonna ask the "simple" question first, have you tried right clicking on the taskbar and in the context menu choosing toolbars--->quick launch? I know it may be simple or you may have already tried , but I just wanna know if that does or does not work.

and obviously, the
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer will place shortcut icons for all users and

C:\Documents and Settings\Shirley\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
will place them only for your acct

Help!

After an infection with adware/spyware I get an error when trying to bring up the Quick Launch and Desktop Toolbars. I am running Windows 2000 ver 5.0.

The error I get is "Can not create toolbar.". I have checked and the Quick Launch folder is in C:\documents and settings\administrator\application data\microsoft\internet explorer and the Desktop folder is in C:\documents and settings\administrator.

I can't find any registry entries that correspond to these toolbars.

If someone knows of or has seen this problem before, I would appreciate any assistance.

Hi,

I am totally clueless and somewhat frustrated because for no reason my Quick Launch Toolbar just disappears and when I Right Click on the task bar and select Toolbars | Quick Launch, I get a message "Cannot Create Toolbar".

I came across a solution and am using that as an interim workaround but would like to permanently solve this problem. The solution is to create a folder under %Appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch and then manually paste shortcuts of things that I like in my Quick Launch Toolbar.

I have also tried another solution but that has not solved the problem either. This solution advices to run the following commands:
IE4UINIT.EXE
REGSVR32 /i SHELL32.DLL
REGSVR32 /i BROWSEUI.DLL

Will appreciate if someone can help me to find a permanent solution.

Thanks.

go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I seem to have lost my Quick Launch toolbar beside the start menu. I had 3 icons on it, 'show desktop' being the most important. The show desktop icon disappeared, and in trying to rectify it, I removed the other 2 icons as well, I've since found the show desktop icon but I now cannot drag any of the 3 icons to where the Quick Launch toolbar used to be - I just a get a circle with a line through it. If I right click on the toolbar and select 'toolbars' - Quick Launch has a tick beside it.

Thanks for any advice

I've recently reinstalled my XP Pro.

Now, when I minimize more than one file of the same program, for example 3 files I'm working on in Excel, they "stack" and all I get in the tollbar is one main icon and when the mouse is placed over it, it shows the name of each one.

Before, it used to have a separate icon for each minimized file.

Can anyone suggest how I can correct this? I do find it annoying.

Thanks,
