New computer- not in use

Q: New computer- not in use

Hello,
I bought a new mobile computer a few weeks ago,
the model is: HP 250 Business i3-3110M.
Then at home, I charged the battery and checked that everything is working properly.
In practice I'm going to use it only in a few months from now.
What is the best way to keep it until then?
Should I empty the battery, disconnect it? and etc.
thanks

Preferred Solution: New computer- not in use

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd suggest making sure the battery is fully charged & then just unplug the AC & let it sit till you're ready to use it.
Although you didn't say what OS it is, I'd suggest you have somebody here help you remove the crapware that it don't need & install security programs

I'm
currently writing a powershell script to harden Windows 7 machines. I am basing what I am scripting off the STIG at
https://www.stigviewer.com/stig/windows_7/. Many of
the things that need to be edited are in the Administrative Templates section of the group policy object in the mmc.

Right now I am using Set-ItemProperty to edit the registry values for these policies, but I wanted to
know if there is an easier way, such as exporting a completed Administrative Template and importing it onto the new machine (as local policies is able to be done).

Thanks!

Dell vostro 220

My computer was lagging and wasn't connecting to the internet properly, and then it froze so I shut it down. When I started it back up, the BIOS loaded but then went to a blank black screen with a mouse. I can move the mouse around. It won't load any further. I've tried all the safe modes and it does the same thing. And I tried cleaning all the dust off the computer. I've tried waiting at that screen for longer than 3 hours. It just stays there.

It's possible that it's a virus but I don't know. How can I solve this problem? Because I can't get into the computer to do a system restore. Please help, thank you!

Couple of questions to start with...

1. When you reinstalled Windows, was it clean installation, including formatting hard drive?
2. Was your computer physically connected to the net during reinstallation?
3. Did you put any backed up files back on freshly installed Windows?

First of all, MalwareBytes is not an anti virus app. Do you have an av installed? If so, have you run a full scan with that? If not, and since you think it's malware related, you should probably post in the Am I Infected forum.

Hey TSF,

I was performing a system restore earlier when, while the process was occurring, I accidentally knocked the power out to my computer. Now when I turn on my computer it goes to the boot screen where I can choose a normal start up or a safe mode start up. Neither work as when I start it up, it just seems to get stuck at the green loading bar screen.

I also have the option to boot from my recovery disc. But after the "Loading Windows files" screen it goes to a black screen and nothing happens. I'm freaking out because I do a lot of work at my computer and can't get it to work (on my brother's computer at the moment). I also don't want to lose any important files on the computer. What can I do?

I have Vista Home Premium on SP2

Regards

A:Accidentally shut down computer during System Restore.. computer doesn't start up

Do you get any options with the Recovery Disc? If you do look for an option called Startup Repair and try that. It should replace the mbr and other essential boot files for you.

If you have access to another computer, you can burn this to a CD or download to a flash driveThe process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs---------------------------------If mbam won't install or runSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run.

Hello njyoung2 I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.Open notepad. Please copy the contents of the code box below. To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it. Paste this into the open notepad. Save it on the flash drive as fixlist.txt

A:Cleaned my computer with staff help today. Scan still found virus on my computer.

Check your PM inbox. Personally, I don't care for Comodo, and the only firewall I use is my router's hardware firewall and Windows XP's. Too many people don't know how to respond to the notifications from firewalls. I don't care for Comodo's detections, and it's overly intrusive.

If you installed this before you uninstalled ComboFix, that would explain why you were getting some hits from Comodo. It incorrectly sees parts of ComboFix as a threat. Also, there might be some quarantined files left behind if you installed this before uninstalling ComboFix.

Regarding svchost.exe, as long as it's in system32, that's fine

I see no active infection.

A:Computer Help Needed My Computer Won't Fully Reboot/ Leave Sleep Mode

Lets see, off the top of my head...
Does the computer ever lock up when copying large files?
When trying to turn on the computer, does it some times turn off almost as soon as you attempt to turn it on?
Do you ever hear any odd ticking sounds when booting up?

A:Computer wont "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" and L-Alt Key makes computer go into standby mode

i think there may also be a suspicious program called Pev.exe aswell===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.Thank you for understanding.Orange Blossom ~ forum moderator

A:[SOLVED] Can't open My Computer/Documents/Control Panel -computer crashes

Hi Anamarija and welcome to TSF !

Does the problem also happen in safe mode ?

Unplug all your USB devices. Use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard for the time of the troubleshooting.

Go to start => run and type chkdsk c: /R. You'll be prompted to restart the computer. Tell us if it finds any errors on the hard drive. If you couldn't see the scan's results you'll find them in the event viewer under application in the latest winlogon entry (click on the title of the source column to sort them alphabetically).

Did the BSOD or the errors in the eventviewer mention any .exe, .dll or .sys file ?

We'll need the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump, problem is you may not be able to browse your drive to zip and attach them with your computer. Copy them to some floppy or usb drive using the command prompt : start => run => cmd. Type copy c:\windows\minidump\*.dmp x: x being the volume letter that corresponds to your usb or floppy drive. Then with another computer zip them and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button.

Double click the errors in the event viewer, click on the third button on the right (this copies the information in the memory) and right-click => paste the complete error message here.

Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. See if there are any devices with a red cross, yellow exclamation point or whatever in front of their name. If you find anything related to your webcam then right-click => uninstall it.

Disconnect from the internet physically, since you're using ZoneAlarm the next step will disable your firewall, make sure the ethernet cable is unplugged or the router is turned off.

Go to start => run and type msconfig. Go to the services tab and tick the "hide all microsoft services" box. Untick the remaining services. Go to the startup tab and untick everything. Restart the computer and see if the problem still happens. Each time you make changes in msconfig and restart the computer you'll get a warning about being in selective mode, tick the box before clicking ok so that the changes remain. If the problem doesn't happen anymore then retick the services and startup items one at a time, restart the computer and see if you can identify the culprit. Don't reconnect to the internet until you've reactivated the firewall and antivirus.

Do you have the XP CD ? If so use that CD to create an XP SP3 CD, we may need it later.

If the above didn't help then if it's indeed a driver that's causing the problem these articles from MS will help you finding and disabling it :

Hi vbgirlati,
I'm not quite sure if this will help; but you should take a look at it anyway. How to migrate to Outlook 2007 & Windows Vista | Windows Vista for Beginners
I just went through a similar situation, although not the same as yours.
Best of luck,

Hi there, please run Combofix:Please download Combofix (by sUBs) and save it to your Desktop.Disable the realtime-protection of your antivirus and anti-malware programs because they might interfere with the scan.Start Combofix.exe and follow its instructions.Do not use the computer while the scan is running. This may cause the program to stall. When finished, a log file will be displayed (that can also be found at C:\Combofix.txt).Please copy and paste the contents of this file into your next post.Note: If you receive an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." after the scan, just restart the computer.(You can find more detailed instructions in this guide on using Combofix.)

A:Computer is slow..hangs for a long time when opening my computer icon

Hello, punkopunx
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .
We need to run a Scan with DDSPlease download DDS, and save it to your desktop, from one of the following mirrors:This is a mirror
This is another mirror

Disable any type of "Script Blockers" or "Script Protection" installed on your system.
Double click on your desktop.
If prompted by any script blocking tools, please allow any actions taken by DDS.
When prompted to preform an Optional Scan, please select
Two reports will open. Please reply with the generated reports:DDS.txt <-- Copy and paste into your next post
Attach.txt <-- Attach to your next post
We need to scan for rootkits with GMERPlease download gmer.zip and save to your desktop.alternate download site 1
alternate download site 2

Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here.)
When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
Note: There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
Click on "Settings", then check the first five settings:System Protection and Tracing
Processes
Save created processes to the log
Drivers
Save loaded drivers to the log

You will be prompted to restart your computer. Please do so.
Run Gmer again and click on the Rootkit tab.
Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.

When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode

In your next reply, please include the following:DDS.txt
Attach.txt
GMER's Log

Computer has not been working good for several weeks. It keeps shutting down and giving me a blue screen of death. Some days it will happen within minutes of logging in other times it won't happen for several hours or if I am lucky a day or two.  Right now I am logged under safe mode because it has been happening so much. Would appreciate some help with this issue. Thanks!!

Had the day from hell with my computer, antivirus stopped working and my computer got infected. On safe mode with networking, I ran malwarebyte a couple times, cleaned most all of it out. When rebooting to windows, computer became super slow, like 5 minutes to open a window, etc. I had to force reboot a few times. But then I started getting a screen that demanded a reboot disk. Only one I have is. a windows vista disc. I had windows 7. It won't let me even get that blue startup screen where I can push f keys.
Can anyone give me some advice, or do I need to just get a new hard drive.

A:computer infected , cleaned, bsod, freezing, now computer wants boot disk

Welcme,
The problem isn't the hard drive, it's that you are still infected.
I'm going to ask a moderator to move this thread into Am I Infected so that you can work with one of the expert volunteers there to get your system cleaned correctly.

Hey all I was unable to get GMER to run the full scan without an error popping up halfway saying that the exe has stopped working I tried it twice and lost patience so I will try again later Youtube freezes heating at times, issues, Computer Computer up!! random and try to make it work For now I m just putting Computer freezes at random times, Youtube issues, Computer heating up!! this post up there to at least get something by the end of today hopefully so I just want to point out first that my GMER log is not included Sorry about it If the GMER log is absolutely necessary along with Hijack and Computer freezes at random times, Youtube issues, Computer heating up!! DDS logs for you guys to diagnose what is wrong with my computer do let me know Also if you guys could any advice on how to get GMER working would be appreciated I was unclear through the instructions if I should uncheck the IAT EAT box and check the C drive box the GMER tool did not warn me about rootkit activity but I went ahead and unchecked IAT EAT and checked C drive anyway assuming that the drive that is most important to scan would be C drive I m running Windows on my Macbook Pro Bootcamp partition and its only recently been experiencing some problems the most notable being that the computer freezes randomly I could be playing a game or browsing the web and the screen freezes no black or blue screen though everything just freezes and I can t move my cursor or get to task manager to end processes Another problem I encountered is that while browsing Youtube in particular when I click on a video for the first to seconds or so the video itself is either mostly black or a completely black screen even though the loading bar of the Youtube video is clearly loading It s kind of hard to explain you can just interpret it as the video is not showing The audio is also mute for the same amount of time and then after a certain amount of time both the audio and video show Refreshing the page sometimes works but not always It s quite frustrating and I m hoping it s linked to the same problem as the computer freezing up Lastly a more general problem I ve noticed is that my Macbook is heating up noticeably more than normal and a couple times I noticed the computer got laggier and laggier as it progressed towards completely freezing I m not sure how much this description can help you guys solve such a problem but these are the main problems I ve encountered Thanks in advance for any help Looks like I need to provide TSG SysInfo as well here it is Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version OS Version Microsoft Windows Professional Service Pack bit Processor Intel R Core TM Duo CPU P GHz Intel Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce M Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB E Total - MB Free - MB Motherboard Apple Inc Mac-F A Antivirus None My Hijack and DDS logs will follow can t get that GMER log nbsp

Faulty fan...shutoffs from overheating...my personal opinion is that the system could have resulted in motherboard damage.

What did the person who replaced the fan...have to say about all this, subsequent to fan replacement?

Hi, I have a problem with windows XP. Everytime I turn off my computer by clicking on "turn off computer," I receive an error message popup that states "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed." After that pop-up message, the computer freezes for about a minute and goes back to its normal format (desktop) and the computer DOES NOT TURN OFF.

How do I turn off my computer without unplugging the computer? I try "ctrl+alt+del" to go to the windows task manager to "shut down" the computer but..the computer restarts again and doesnt turn off. Do I have a virus or a windows explorer problem? and how do i fix it? thank you

Hello All.

I would very highly appreciate learning from you.

I have installed ( hopefully completely deleted ) Tor. I was looking to anonymously surf the web in order to watch US TV online in Brazil.

I also believe my machine is full of viruses adware malware etc...as I go to many online movie sites.

I already have utilized CCleaner AVG and adwcleaner6000 but the problems persist.

I ran the FRST64, have the logs and downloaded HijackThis.

I would really love to clean up my machine and be able to surf anonymously.....and prevent intrusions.

Really looking forward to interaction discussions, making friends and learning.

A:I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

I have someone who is experiencing random connection problems on the clients such as slow or no connections to mapped network shares. Event id 10009 keeps being recorded in the domain controller logs.

DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer MARK-PC.pmc.local using any of the configured protocols.

It has a range of different computer names within the same events. As far as DCOM is configured it's only setup to use TCP-IP.

Server - Windows Server 2008 Standard FE
System type: 64-bit Operating System

Clients:
24 XP Pro
2 Vista Pro
2 Vista Home (should they be using home in an environment like this?)

I have attached the last 256 logs from Application & System as of yesterday evening at around 5pm'ish. I've checked again this morning and looks like the same error has already been re-occurring.

Can anyone give me any suggestion as to where to go with this?

Thanks.

A:Event ID: 10009 DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer <computer name>

Extra Info

Sorry I forgot to also mention that the server is acting as a DHCP server and that there router has had DHCP disabled. Client PC'S are set to local static IP'S and are not actually set to obtain if this has any variance.

Thanks, David

Hello everyone - I am a new member of the forum and hope that someone reading this might be able to help me with a problem I have with my computer.

When I start my computer a blue screen appear on my system and I could not start my computer
An error massage display on screen if you are displays its screen first time then restarts your computer
Some time my computer start and now after restarting my computer will not start

When this happens, I am unable to log off; the computer on/off button does not work when the screen freezes and I have to turn the computer off at the mains.
My computer runs on the Windows XP operating system.

I changed from Internet Explorer browser 6 to 7 yesterday but the problem of the computer screen freezing persists.

Any helpful advice on this would be much appreciated.

A:My computer blue screen errors occur and I can not work on my computer

Hi and welcome,

Has the problem always been apparent or has it just started to happen recently?

After the bluescreen, is it asking you you would like to start in safe mode? If not, repeatidly press F8 as the computer is first started and it will come up with a menu asking you to select a boot mode. Select Safe Mode (no networking, initially).

Does it boot in Safe mode? Come back and let us know.

Problem has been resolved. My graphics card was creating the conflict, just needed to upgrade my video card drivers and adjust the setting accordingly.

Hey guys, I just got a new Sony VAIO NS Series yesterday and I think it is satisfactory so far EXCEPT for the fact that the web pages load so slowly. For example, the pages on this website requires that I press refresh or press "enter" on the web address bar a few times for the page to load. How can this be? This computer is new! Could it just be the internet coincidentially being slow? Is it the computer's problem and should I be concerned? Thanks!

My computer can be found here along with the specs: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9370165&type=product&id=1218093001336

I was playing Burnout when the computer crashed and the blue screen error came up. Since then when I turn the computer on all the fans turn on, HDD activity light flashes but nothing appears on the monitor.I can't boot in to safe-mode or enter the bios settings. I've tried using the 8800gt and the onboard gfx (950 gma) but nothing appears. I read that taking the ram out and then turning it on the mobo should beep..but it didn't however it did beep when I didn't plug the cable in to the 8800gt.

I have a Asrock 1333-D667 mobo
Windows 7 RC
2gb Ram
8800gt 512mb
E2180 @2.00GHz

A:Computer had a bsod whilst playing a game..now computer won't boot.

No beep without ram installed does not look good. Here is some basic troubleshooting you can do.

1 Open the case and pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical.
2 Remove all add-in cards except the video card
3 Disconnect any usb type device; ie hub, printer, scanner, etc.
4 Clear cmos with the clear jumper for a min of 20~30seconds. Replace jumper to keep position.
5 Now attempt a pw ON of the system and see if it will post.

If it does post in the above config, then shutdown and add devices one at a time until you find the problem. If it does not post, then start replacing parts with known good units.

FWIW I would start with the pw supply as the first part replaced.

I have been having a long running problem with my computer It started out as a lack of internet access which turned out tI o be a bad virus I fixed that problem by doing a complete reformat of my system I thought that that would fix the problem and it did for a bit After a week or so I started having BSOD I went to a computer shop and we went to work on the issue The BSOD's were showing that there was an error with my sata connection I replaced the cables The problem kept happening so I replaced the motherboard and hard drive with a complete reformat again Then I continued to have the same issues which included crashes disappearing icons weird error messages x errors and once in a while a BSOD The BSOD's all say there's still an error with the sata connection I then decided to replace the power Icons, Crashes, BSOD, Computer computer unusable Disappearing supply and upgraded to an evga watt I replaced my case as well to a bigger one I even replaced the ram sticks That seemed to fix the problems for a while and the BSOD's became very rare but after Disappearing Icons, Computer Crashes, BSOD, computer unusable a lot of use the weird error messages became very common I really can't use the computer any more I'm typing this on my laptop The computer shop I go to say's this is probably a hardware issue They can't seem to figure it out I've had it in multiple times This is a nightmare for a computer owner I have replaced virtually all the parts and my computer is still utterly unusable The only program I installed since the last reformat was Origin Steam Office The only parts I have yet to replace are the Processor and the Graphics Card Please help I really don't know what Disappearing Icons, Computer Crashes, BSOD, computer unusable else to do

A:Disappearing Icons, Computer Crashes, BSOD, computer unusable

Holy.....
uh...
Why don't you just buy a new one! WOW.. Sorry..
Well, you SHOULDN'T have played with drivers...That is what's up.
Tried re-formatting AFTER doing those changes?
That computer shop owner though...I don't know what to say.
1) try reformatting to a version that is supported by the bios..(Check if it supports x64)...(fully ready)
2) post every error you get and attempt to find solution to each one. (Getting tired)
3) Can you mention WHEN did certain errors happen? before...after changing Processor and Graphic Card? (Getting worried)
4) Try lots of thing on the web. (hope time)
5) Revert back to the old virtual stuff. (shameful return)
6) take off the good pieces and attempt to use it on another computer or sell it. (Hopeless)

I have a shared folder on my server.
I copy files from a shared folder from another computer. The files total size is approximately ~120MB.
This takes ~ 30 seconds or so. Ihaven't measured the time. It is a bit slow, but that's not the main problem.
The server gets unresponsive while the files are copied. It looks like it has stopped completely.

Is there a way to lower the priority for the file transfer, on the server, so that remote computers doesn't affect it that much.

There are several (2 to 3) remote computers that will copy files from the server at random times. We do not want the server to "stop" when this happens.

It's not a windows server. It's a win 7 pro x64 (or similar).

A:Copying files from remote computer slows down local computer

Can I set some kind of priority for a shared folder?
The priority should make sure that when other computers read from the shared folder, it should be done with a lower priority.

The remote computers are using a c# program with impersonation when fetching the files.

Do I have to change the whole architecture so that the remote computer connects to a software on the local computer. The software on the local computer could have a lower priority and fetch the files and send them to the remote computer.

Hi. can anyone help me share files between my two computers. i would like to play my music or my videos from my main computer on my laptop. i've changed the workgroup name on both computers to match but still can't find my PC on my laptop in the network center. is there something else i'm missing? or maybe because one is vista and one is XP?
(i use a wireless connection for the internet on both computers from my brothers room)

A:Sharing Files Between Xp Desk Computer And Laptop Vista Computer

Networking a vista and xp machine together are easier said than done, only because of the different way vista handles network shares.Check these links:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspxIt works for me on my Xp and Vista machines but I really don't remember how I did it. I just turned on sharing on my xp AND vista machines and it seems to work just fine...Sorry if I can't be more help to ya

I've just changed from Outlook 2003 on my old (XP) machine,to Window Live on my new (Win7) computer.I'm struggling to import the saved e-mails and calendar. The .CSV file method worked for the contacts folder, but not for any thing else. I  do have the  .pst  Outlook back-up file on the new computer, but Live Mail Doesn't want to know!
So-how do I do it?
The Windows Communiy seems not to know either!
And before anybody asks-I've got Thunderbird installed, but it doesn't agree with Virgin e-mail.

A:Outlook 2003(old computer) to Windows Live Mail( new computer)

Looks like nobody's got any ideas! I've downloaded the free trial of Office 2013, and this has picked up the .pst back up file, and shows the e-mails etc.But-even if Micros**t say it is possible I have yet to find a way to get the files into Windows Live.
Conspiracy theory says it's a plot to make us all buy Office!!!

Hello there I ve got a problem with my computer that s been bothering me for a long time now If possible I d like any of you to help me identify the problem and find a solution I ve never been able to fix this problem on what should problem. identifying Need help keeps games playing computer Computer crashing when be a perfectly fine computer bought new in march Full spec list in the end of the post OS is Windows XP Pro The problem is that the computer is either crashing completely or forcing games to shut down when I m playing games What I ve come to think is that my power supply can t handle the hardware that s in the computer when all the parts are being used maximally Here s what I m thinking When a game that demands the whole computer to work at maximum capacity is running the power supply will attempt to deliver the power all the hardware parts need to function properly at full speed Say the computer actually need a w power supply to function properly but the power supply i have only works at w it will actually try to Need help identifying computer problem. Computer keeps crashing when playing games deliver w ultimately causing it to quot overheat quot and force itself to reboot as a means of getting cooled down or simply slowing down to work at normal capacity - instead of keeping on working at more than capacity over a longer period of time which would end up destroying the power supply altogether The crashes rarely occur when I do anything other than playing demanding games basically any game that s got high hardware demands will result in a computer crash - most often the BSOD kind - or forcing the game itself to abruptly Need help identifying computer problem. Computer keeps crashing when playing games shut down Older games or games that simply doesn t need high end hardware will go on forever without causing any problems When it crashes it usually happens after - minutes of playing a few times it might go for around minutes When creating a character in a game something that only needs very little processing power it can go on for ages - even if the game itself would crash soon after playing normally this only supports my theory about the power supply I ve got all the latest drivers and such installed and always have Things I ve tried to fix my problem all without success include - Switching graphics card and installing the proper drivers - Formatting my computer reinstalling windows and everything else - Taking off the side of the cabinet and have a big fan blow air directly into the computer to cool off everything - Switching hard disk The computer BIOS won t recognize either of the two other drives I ve tried connecting - Paying too much money for having the place I bought it from fix it only to have them tell me quot it s a software problem quot They told me they experienced no problems while playing any games on their own hard disk they installed for testing This is the only thing that goes against my theory about the power supply as far as I can tell I ve never tested or switched the mother board RAM or processor The OS I ve used has been the same all the time - an old copy of Windows XP Professional from a burned CD I ll try to install Windows on my computer if nothing else can fix it But of course I d rather not spend time on formatting and installing windows when I m not even sure that it s going to solve my problem Because if it s a hardware problem namely a weak power supply I would lose my entire windows setup for nothing Any and all ideas are welcome Hopefully I can get this problem solved without spending any money Mainboard BIOSTAR GF V-M Chipset nVidia GeForce Processor Intel Core Duo E MHz Physical Memory MB x DDR -SDRAM Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GT Hard Disk WDC GB Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack nbsp

Hello First windows colored 7 will computer on gets top not of Computer screen boot lines off my computer recently had its motherboard video card replaced It is a dell xps l x The issues with the colored lines began before the mother board was replaced Thus I do not believe a faulty motherboard is the problem These Computer gets colored lines on top of screen computer will not boot windows 7 lines are thin and occur on the top centimeter of the screen They are made up of many colors and sort of look like squiggles going horizontally across the page Also my computer will not sleep properly When the computer is put to sleep the screen will go black but the fan will continue to run and led backlit keyboard will remain on They begin immediately after the dell logo comes on I also get bluegreen dots appear in the top left hand corner of the screen The lines do not always appear its is sort of hit or miss with my computer I have performed a system restore and and wiped the hard drive This did not remedy either of the situations I am not sure how to proceed as it cannot be the motherboard or hard drive Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

A:Computer gets colored lines on top of screen computer will not boot windows 7

Your screen connector cable might be loose on the end that is connected to the screen. Try moving the laptop while it is running or move the screen to see if it worsens or gets better to confirm.

Also update all System Drivers mainly graphics drivers by going to Dell.com Support>Drivers look for the model number Version of Windows including 64bit or 32 bit download the drivers and install.
If Windows does not boot try booting in "Safe Mode" by tapping the F8 button as soon as you press the power button. Select "Safe Mode" in the options screen.

I had recently gotten help from one of the forum admins/tech support, Broni, to remove a powerful and horrible virus that kept playing ads in the background.

but now that its been removed, all my sound is not working on my PC. Rebooting the pc doesnt produce sound, clicking things doesnt produce sound, my headset doesnt produce sound, my microphone doesnt produce sound or transmit it, and videos, along with music on the pc doesnt produce sound.

It seems that all sound has stopped functioning I could use some help!

A:No audio at all from computer/headset/microphone after having computer cleaned of virus

Go to your computer manufacturers website, go to the support/download/driver page.

Select which operating system you have.

Go to the audio section, and download the file , run the EXE, restart your machine and sound should work.

It's probably a driver issue..

Do I have a virus or a windows explorer problem? and how do i fix it? thank you

Question: How would you approach this migration?

I just bought a copy of Acronis True Image 2013 with Plus Pack. It appears that this is all I need as True Image will install the new motherboard drivers as part of the migration process. But do I stay with MBR or move to GPT?

Presently both Win7 (on a 120GB SSD drive) and Win8 (on a different 120GB SSD drive) are both MBR format. I don't want to start over from scratch. That's why I bought the Acronis 2013 with Plus Pack.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

A:Migrating Win7 & Win8 frm a BIOS computer to UEFI computer

Why would you need GPT on a drive less than 3 TB ? I'm not sure if TRIM on SSD would work on it.

For a while now i had a problem with my computer crashing when i play moderately computer intensive game. Games like Euro truck sim will make my computer turn off/ crash in a matter of minutes while far cry 4 cant get passed the loading screen except for the first time i played and that time it only lasted 20 mins. This power supply however works most of the time no problem. Its an 850w so power consumption shouldn't be the problem. it may be worth noting i just got a new gpu (gtx 970 used to have a 550ti). Thanks!

Hello,Actually, it doesn't suprise me at all your system is running so slowly... You have several antivirus and firewalls installed (zonealarm, McAfee, Norton, AVG..)Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! HI Goes Computer Fix Computer Strange to on Screen, Monitor Pattern Off, Reboot Everyone This happens about once every week or so Computer Monitor goes Black then the Enter Power Saver Mode comes up on the screen Then the screen flashes this pattern see Attached picture I took this pattern goes on and off going black and then back to this pattern in a continuous loop every few seconds Once I reboot everything is normal Computer Monitor Goes Off, Strange Pattern on Screen, Computer Reboot to Fix until it happens again I hooked up another Monitor and the same pattern continued so I ruled out the monitor Re-set Computer Monitor Goes Off, Strange Pattern on Screen, Computer Reboot to Fix cables and connectors Cleaned out the inside of the computer Updated the Graphics Card Driver Strange that if I have music playing on the Computer Monitor Goes Off, Strange Pattern on Screen, Computer Reboot to Fix computer the music continues to play through this It seems that the computer is running except for the fact that I lose all control I can't get the mouse or keyboard shortcuts to respond Hope I did this correctly Attached are the files I think you need to look at OS - Windows Bit Thanks for your Help on this Ken

A:Computer Monitor Goes Off, Strange Pattern on Screen, Computer Reboot to Fix

The "power saver mode" thing is an indication that the video card isn't sending a signal to the monitor.
Yet, the crazy pattern shows up - so it seems like the video card crashed, then resets improperly.

Have you tried reseating the video card?
Checking to make sure that it's cooler is free of dust/hairballs?
That the cooler fan is working?
Have you monitored the temps of the card before it behaves like this?

The Admin event log shows lot's of NTFS errors blamed on I/O errors.
As such, please run these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
Start with the Hard Drive diagnostics please.

Only a few BSOD's in the attached reports (but no memory dumps) - and lot's of Live Kernel Events.
I strongly suspect a hardware problem here, and think that the hardware diagnostics will help to identify which hardware component is to blame.

Good luck!

A:Updated computer using Samsung SW Update and computer became unbelievably slow

Hi there.

It seems clear that the update did not have a positive effect on the laptop and it is causing the instability.

Have you tried to revert those updates, or rather, are you able to do so, since it is difficult for you to work with the laptop?

I am replacing my mobo, os (win7 pro 64bit), adding ram and a ssd. I want to put all of the programs on the ssd with the os.
How do I move all of Outlook with emails and the folders to the new ssd? I am hoping that all of the emails and folders and contacts will remain intact.

I should clarify that I will still be using the old HD for storage on the same computer.

How to find and post your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip; if you only have one or two you don?t need to zip them, just attach as is. Please do us a favor and don?t Zip each one individually

A:Everytime I download an image or file on my computer it shows up on my computer

Hi and welcome,
I think your downloads are saving to desktop (the screen). What web browser are you using (Internet Explorer or Firefox or ...).
With that info it should be possible to help you change the default download location.

Thanks.
Richard.

This afternoon, my computer began crashing whenever I try to open one of the more important files, like my computer or the control panel. Everything works correctly on safe mode, and I've tried driver verification, but there's upwards of 200 unregistered drivers, so I'm not entirely sure what to do. Are there any drivers I should look for to move away from the system32 folder? Or is there any other way to solve this?

Also, I haven't installed any new software recently.

Thanks,
Matt

So i got this pc about a month ago . It's an i5 2500k, hd 7850, kingston 1333mhz 8gb ram, wd 1 terrabyte hdd, asrock z75 pro3 board, corsair tx650 psu . The freezing occurs at completely random times, it started happening about 3 days ago, it does it when the computer is left alone to download, happens when im playing, doesn't seem to matter.
There is no bsod,no minidump , or any message written on the screen. The monitor just blacks out, keyboard no longer responds (cant disable numlock for example). How should i start troubleshooting this (win7 pro 64)?

A:New computer, screen blacks out at random intervals, zero response from computer

Hi
Best place to start troubleshooting is with your drivers

Did you build this computer yourself?
if so go to Asrock's Website and look for drivers of your motherboard model
Update all your drivers
Reboot
Make sure to run windows updates and install all required
Reboot
check updates again just in case there was something missed

Run Driver verifier and see if you get BSOD and mini dumps

Basically i was just surfing the net then suddenly this pop-up came at the edge of my screen saying my computer is unprotected, and infected blah blah blah..I tried to use my Fix.exe program didn't work... niether did Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.... I turned off my computer to see if that would do anything... it did... it made it worse now my compuiter won't boot up!! And i have all my coursework in there which has to be in for monday!!!! Arrrrggghhh what am i going to do??? Someone please help!!! i'm really confused!

A:My computer got a strange virus, programs wouldn't run and now my computer won't boot up!!!

For the sake of expediency...you might try to follow the procedures listed at BC Removal, AV Security Suite..I suggest that you read through all instructions carefully...before doing anything. In the event that this doesn't solve it, post back and we'll try to overcome this.If you feel that the above instructions are too intensive or laborious for you to follow, let me know and I'll move you to one of our malware forums. The instructions in the link provided...should be effective against the listed malware item, but it may not necessarily be effective against others. Users seem to think that it's only one item that they have to deal with...that may not necessarily be the case.Louis

I saw another user had this same issue and have learned from that I need to analyze the Event Viewer and then look at the .dmp files to acertain the posible cause of this XP server rebooting a few times a day without warning.

I have attached the .dmp file here (I cannot get windows to read it).

Can anyone analyze it to see what may be the cause?

Thanks so much!

Hi Tech Support Guys and Gals,
I was using my Hp laptop and the screen randomly froze. I manually powered off the computer and now when I turn it on, I hear one longer beep followed by two short ones. In addition, the screen doesn't work. If I let the computer keep working and boot up, I eventually hear the welcome screen theme play so it seems like the computer keeps functioning, but the monitor won't work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
