I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well i did a big report on my computer with Word Perfect i couldnt print it so i took to school on my flash drive. IN my first class i edited it on Word 2007 and in the class i could print it they had Word 2003 and i couldnt open my file and now i cant even open it in word perfect. I doubt i can use the laptops for a while anyway i can open this on wordperfect

A:Solved: Word Perfect- Word 2003 - word 2007

If you saved the file in the "new" Word 2007 format (with a file extension of .docx) then you will be unable to open it in the other applications.

For Word 2003 you can install a converter, but I know of no XLM converter for WordPerfect.

When using Word 2007 you need to "save as" Word 97-2003 format to retain backwards compatibility.

I work as an adm. assistant and am in the process of getting a new computer. Most all of my documents on my current computer are Word Perfect format. Is there any way to convert everything over to Word? I hate to think I need to save each and every document in Word BEFORE installing all of the records to the new system. Is it possible to transfer everything as is and then convert to Word afterward?

Hi,

Got a problem with Word and Excel 2007.

Both programs open ok (under 2 seconds), so no problems there.

The problem is opening the program by means of opening a document. It takes about 1 minute

Exactly the same thing with both Word and Excel.

Has anyone got a solution? Surely there must be a quick little registry tweak to sort this out?

Other info:
Outlook 2007 works ok, no delays
Windows XP works ok
No speed issues with computer
Did not previously have Office 2003
Word/Excel documents are local, computer is not on a network
Computer is free from spyware and viruses

Hi,
I can not open ms Word documents by double-clicking on them anymore, When ever I do so I get a mesage saying: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
I do get the Word window open but there is nothing in it. I have tried this with .doc, .docx and .txt files and I get the same thing.
But I can open files if I first open word and then go to Open and select a document from there, but not by double clicking.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and Microsoft Office Word 2007, can anyone help me?

Open Word, go to the Office Orb, then Resources, and then "Run Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

This will check out the install and do a repair if needed. You will need to the "Office cache" file on the hard drive or have the Office CD handy, if it is needed.

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, Office 2007

I know how to save documents created in Word 2007 so it can be used with Word 2003 done manually.

Can someone inform me whether I can set my "save as" so documents created in Word 2007 will be always saved as default to be compatible with Word 2003?

A:Saving Documents Created in Word 2007 to be Compatible with Word 2003

You can us this compatibility update to read Office 2007 docs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) In earlier versions of Office - Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. Meaning you can save your Word docs in their original format and Word 2003 will read them.

You might want to check this link out as well - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...444731033.aspx

As far as setting a "default" save, to be honest, I'm not sure if this can be done or not.

Hope this helps.

I've got a diskette that I put some info on over three or four years ago, that I need to open. Unfortunately, I used Word Perfect at the time, (can't remember which version, probably old at the time), and I desperately need to open it, but MS Word 2002 doesn't seem to be able to do it. At the time on the computer I had then, whatever version of MS Word I had, to the best of my memory, would open it with no problem. I think Word 2002 has a converter, but I it doesn't work or at least I can't get it to. I thought it was automatic, for that matter.

Now all I get when I open it is mostly a bunch of Y's and O's. Since I don't have Word Perfect anymore, does anyone have any idea how I can get it to open?

Hi Chris,

I've been looking at this for a while, but cannot find an answer.

The only thing I can come up with, is an alternate suggestion, which I am sure you have probably thought of : use something like 7ZIP to encrypt the file, and then send that to your friends.

I have installed MS Office Home and Student 2007 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 running Vista Home Premium. Previously I used MS Works that came pre-installed any e-mail with a Word attachment just opened when I clicked it.
Now when I get e-mails with any Word attachments I am unable to open the attachments without first saving them to the desk top, then opening Word 2007, then opening the document from the Word 2007 menu.
Similarly with all my old documents I have to go through the same long winded procedure to open them
Is there a simple way to cure this??. I'm not a tech whizz but if the cure is simple I can give it a go

Other times, it will load the file..but wp9 will refuse to save it unless it's renamed. After recent full system recovery caused by one or more virus, I am unable to re-install Microsoft Word or Word Perfect on my Compaq Presario, which has Windows XP. Microsoft Word will sometimes start the process but then just stops, giving no indication of what steps to take next or what the problem is. Word Perfect seems to start the process each time but then gets hung up with updating what it describes as the SHFolder.dll. Have waited as long as 20 minutes for this update. The screen does show activity but it just never seems to get done. I cannot take the installation process past that point.

Any suggestions on how I can correct or cure this problem?

Check here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q303437/ for some help - probably the .dll is either corrupt or the path not recognized. Can WORD 2000 do this? So far, all I can figure out is how to highlight either an entire word, sentence, or line, but none of them with the precision that WordPerfect 5.1 allowed.

I have a bizarre issue.

Workstation A has Office 2007, Workstation B has Office 2003.

If Workstation A created a document in 2007 format, and sends it externally, then sometimes it comes through corrupt.

Similarly, if Workstation A creates a document and sends it internally to Workstation B for review (successfully opened), and receives it back (opened and saved in Word 2003 with KB924074 Converter installed) then sometimes it is corrupt.

It seems that the corruption happens if the document is attached via Word Office Button > Send or via Outlook New Mail > Attach, but I am monitoring this.

By corrupt, I have discovered that it exhibits symptoms of .asd - .doc - .docx confusion, as detailed in KB942617. if I rename a 'corrupted' document as a asd, it can be recovered.

So - what could cause this corruption? It seems as if sometimes a document that should be saved as a docx is saved as a docx in asd format!

I just uninstalled something with word perfect on my dell inspiron 600 in order to free space b/c I didn't think that I used it, but now all my word docs (I'm running windows 2003 with a 2007 service compatibility patch/update) have turned into what looks like word pad docs! How do I find what was uninstalled and get it back?
Thanks!
Laura

A:uninstalled word perfect, now word isn't working

Did you mean Office 2003? Windows 2003 is a server operating system.

Do you still have Office 2003 installed? Can you launch Word? Did you search for Word.exe? If it exists, what happens when you run it? If it doesn't, it's not installed.

I have many WP8 files I created that when I try to open them, they give the "convert from MS word 97" dialog box, and when I say ok, fine, I just get "illegal operation" and the program shuts down.

they were created in wp; why can't I just open them in wp? Why are they asking to be converted from ms word? Is there something I can do about this?

thanks

A:Why do Word perfect files want to be opened in MS word?!!!

You still have WordPerfect installed?

If so, select a WP file, then with the Shift key held, right mouse, select Open With, scroll to WordPerfect, select it, ensure that "Always use this program ......" is selected, and OK your way out.

Please ensure that you allow it permission to do so.-- If you get a warning from your anti-virus while DSS is scanning, please allow DSS to continue as the scan is not harmful. If you already preformed the steps above We still need to see the current state of the machine fresh scan and logs are still necessaryclick on Start, click on Run copy and paste the following in bold in the open window and then click OK"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /configThis will open up DSS configuration click on Check Allclick ScanDSS will now run again when finishedPlease post back both logs that open in notepadMain txt and extra txtNextPlease do a scan with Kaspersky Online ScannerNote: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs. The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files. After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My ComputerThis will start the program and scan your system. The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.Once the scan is complete, click on View scan reportNow, click on the Save Report as button.Save the file to your desktop.Copy and paste that information in your next post. Please post back with dss reports main.txt, extra.txt and Kaspersky report.Regards

Is there a way to put a word perfect 10 doc. into a word 2000 doc. I have word perfect 10 but my school has word 2000. I need to print my paper but don't know how. Can anyone help??

A:Solved: Word perfect 10 to word 2000 doc.

Word should be able to open the WordPerfect document. Or you can save the document as a Word 97 document in WP. Do file>Save As, and in the File Type box Select Word 97/2000/2002, and click save.

I am using Vista Home Premium with Office 2007 Professional with HP Deskjet F4140.
Frequently when using Word the document will just close, no warning or messages. Typically it closes after I have had it open for sometime, never checked the time because it is so random if it will close or not. And the program must think it was shutdown properly because I do not have the option to recover when I re-open Word. I have ran the repair option from the CD.

Does anyone have suggestions or have ran into this before?

I have additional documents, spreadsheets etc embedded into a Microsoft Office Word document. When this document is converted to the PDF (using the Word PDF add-in interface) the embedded objects can no longer be opened and only appear as images.

Is there a way to retain the embedded document during the conversion so that they can be opened from within the resulting PDF?

Has anyone made a macro to do a mass unprotect of Word 2007 documents. We have installed Word 2007 and used Word 2003. We have a new server. The templates from the old server have been moved to the new server. All documents based on the path of the old server take a long time to open and we have to hit esc to get them on the screen. Each document is based on various templates from Word 2003. We really need a macro to change the path in the document (template path to old server to reflect new server path) and we also need to have a macro that will make sure all documents have been made into an unprotected mode so they will change and save the new name in the document. Anyone have such an animal.

I recently got a new computer and had to switch to Word 2007 from Word 2003.
When I would open a folder in 2003, the little field on the start-bar would show the name of the folder that I would have opened. In 2007, it shows the whole path, such a C: Documents and Settings/my name/etc. That means of course that I can't tell which is which - it's most annoying.
I called DELL support who assured me that it was impossible to show only the end of that path, i.e. the actual name of the folder.
I do not believe that; if it could be done in Word 2003, it surely should be possible in 2007!

Please help - thank you.

When our Vista/word 2007 users try to open up a word document from a webserver, we get the following vista dialog box

"Opening http://..." (see attached screenshot)

This hangs on the screen for 20+ seconds and then the file finally opens. As soon as the dialog box pops up, you can click on cancel, and Word and the document will open right up.

This box does not pop up on XP / Word 2007 machines. It seems happen only with the Vista / Word 2007 Combination. It also does not happen with vista/firefox.

Here is an example of a word document on a web server that this is happening: http://www.taylorcscd.org/pac/Execut...-Jae%20Lee.doc

This is driving my users crazy. Have searched microsoft and have not been able to find out what is happening or how to fix this.

Hi All,

I work on a web application that has Excel and Word documents in it.

At the moment when a user opens these documents in IE9 they get presented with a dialog box asking:

What do you want to do with "filename"?

The user is presented with Open, Save and Save As as the options.

Unlike previous versions of IE there is no check box to tick to remember the user's choice so it comes up every time.

I really need to get rid to this box. Does anyone know how to disable it?

Thanks

Do you have Microsoft word installed? Go to your Start Menu and look through your programs for a folder named Microsoft, Inside should be a program called Microsoft Word. If not, than you need to buy Microsoft Word, or download Open-office, just google it. It is a free alternative to Word, and it can open word. If you do have word than when that prompt comes back up than select "select program from list" and choose Microsoft Word. Good Luck , without computer for 6 days will check back then . And maybe someone here will help if you need further assistance.

For whatever reason, selecting text and hitting Enter no longer deletes that text as it should. Instead it inserts an Enter after that text, but leaves the text there. I already tried the Insert key, and 'Typing replaces selected text' is already checked in Options. How to fix this? I'm using Microsoft Word 2007 and Windows XP on a laptop.

I just tried to open an existing doc and it wanted to load MS office 2007. I had to do so to open it. All of my Word docs are now 2007.
I'm unsure of what happened. I have MS Office 2000 not 2001 Professional on the machine I removed the ms office 2007 trial version that comes with the machine when I loaded it.
I see in updates that there is a bunch of recent updates for MS office 2007.
How do I remove them? How can this have happened since I didn't have MS 2007 loaded?

Thanks EDITED for Clarity Apparently I did not make clear that I was using office 2000 and had removed the trial version of office 2007 when I installed the OS on this drive. It has worked fine for years until this event.

I'm running Windows ME. Been fighting a virus on my computer and did a registry repair and now can't get either Word or Publisher documents to open. Both programs are still listed in the Start/Program menu, but I get the following message when I try to start either program:

"The application must be installed to run. Please run Setup from the location where you originally installed the application."

Well, tried to reinstall Word and got nothing. I thought I'd deleted the Rundll32.exe, and managed to reinstall it (I think). Can't find my ME disk to do anything from there.

I'm desperate for help. Thanks for anything advice you can offer.

I have a serious problem. I have a whole bunch of word documents done up in office 2000. I had later installed Office 2007, and didnt like it, so I uninstalled it and went back to the 2000. Now, whenever I open all the existing word documents I only see code like the following... A HytAvEٲ}.F]Iĺ.

- I have downloaded the compatability pack and I try and save the file as a docx instead of a docm file and it says "the converter failed to save the file".
- I have also downloaded a word document viewer hoping that might allow me to at least view them, but that doesnt work either. same problem.

My wife needs all these documents for teaching, so they are very important and I am hoping someone here can help me restore all of these files. I would guess there are 20 - 30 files with this problem.

Thanks all.

Hello Charlene,

Try deleting the template. Close all instances of word.

Click Start > Search > all Files and Folders > type normal.dot

when the search results are found delete the listing(s) for normal.dot

Re-open MS Word.

If not you can try to repair it or reinstall it.

Using Windows 7 64-bit.

When I click a Word document in Explorer or on the Start menu, I get the error "There was a problem sending the command to the program". I'm using Word 2003, but I don't get this problem with Excel 2003.

I know that when I try to open a document this way, the program uses the command switches "/n" -- which means "open a new instance of Word", -- and "/dde" -- which I don't know what it means. I do know that I don't want the /n switch.

1) How can I remove the /n switch? Remember, I'm not clicking on a shortcut, but on a document icon. I know how to assign the "Open With" command, but I don't see any options about changing command-line switches.

2) Is the /dde switch causing my problem? How do I remove it?

When i try to re-open after it crashes, word tells me that it would be safe to open up in safe mode. This way i can gain access to some of my saved work. But it's a very round-a-bout way of getting to it.

Does it work by opening Word, then opening the document from there?

If so, make sure .docx is associated with Word, which is located here as "WINWORD.EXE":

Greetings all.
How do I open two Word documents in Windows7?

In XP I could just click on two documents and both would open. That doesn't work in Windows 7. When I click on the second document the first one disappears.

I often need two documents open so that I can copy and paste between them, see any changes I'm making and compare the two. Having the two open at the same time is much more convenient than having to keep opening and closing them as I have to do in Windows7.

I tried some suggestions that I found on the internet, such as selecting the two documents and clicking, or using OPEN but in each case only one document opens.

I can open two of other types of files, such as PowerPoint shows, so it appears to be related to Word somehow.

I'm using Word 2003.

Rod.

A:How do I open two Word documents in Windows7?

Word 2003 can't open the newer Word .docx format or Powerpoint presentations. It's been so long since I used it that I can barely remember its functions - but it may need to be installed in XP compatibility mode if you would like it to work properly in Windows 7...

The title basically says it all. I would like to know how to combine a bunch of Word 2007 documents without overlapping the first page, so basically I want there to be as many pages as there is for the amount of documents I want to combine with the original. Let's say there's the title page, then I want to add another 20 pages, well I should have 21 pages in total by the end of this.

If anyone knows how to do this, it would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks.

A:Combine multiple Word 2007 documents into one document on seperate pages

If this is a one off project the easiest way is to open the document that will be your main document, go the to the end of the document , Go To Insert>Text>Object>Select>Text from File and repeat until complete

I am finding that, when I save a Word 2007 document in Word 2003 format, I am unable to open Outlook and send the document simply by clicking on "email". After I click on email, the cursor just freezes where it is. I either have to reboot or break the job (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and THEN all works fine. FROM THAT POINT, when I click on email it opens Outlook 2007 and I can send the document.

A:word pad/word perfect issues

Not good news I fear.

Wordpad would have "interpreted" the WP document code to something displayable (gibberish characters) and then saving it has overwritten this "interpretation" back over the actual document code.

I know of no way to recover the original, it's been replaced with non-meaningful characters as far as WP is concerned.

Do we assume you make no backups of any important documents? if so its a sad reminder of the need to do so.
It would be no different if your hard drive failed (which is another all too common event), it would be lost just the same.

With any document you wish to send them, click File, Save As, then at the bottom of the window beside the cancel button click the drop down arrow and select to save the document as 97/2000/XP format.

I have Word 2002 which is part of MS Works (came pre-installed), and I have MS office Pro 2000. They all work great except that it seems like Word is getting slower and slower to open and close documents. Most of theses documents are in the 20 to 60 KB in size and have one small graphic, the company logo.

A document takes about 6-7 seconds to open and about 6 seconds to close. It seems like they are getting slower.

My computer is clean, no viruses, no spyware or malware. I use disk cleanup and defrag regularly. I have 256 MB ram, P4 1.7 Gh, 40 Gb hard drive with 69 % unused. I wondered if more ram would help. OS is XP Home. I have AVG antivirus, Zone Alarm Pro, Spywareguard, Palm Hot Sync, CookieWall running all the time. Everything else is fast on my computer except Word.

Any ideas and advice welcome. Thank you.

A:Word documents open and close very slow

Try Office Experts Word troubleshooting, only do the steps until it works right, but you may need to do at least 3 and 5.

Also, if you have a recent Norton, there's a setting in there (under Misc?) that scans Office documents when you open them. Turn it off.

When I click on the name of Word document in a folder to open it, it hangs and then says "Not responding". (This just started happening.) I have the same problem with files in Excel and html (where I use Firefox).

However, I can open files fine if I go to Word and use File, Open.

For some reason, I can still use a folder to open PowerPoint and Adobe files.

I have Windows XP and use Office 2007.

I regularly scan my computer for viruses (with Norton) and for spyware (with SpySweeper) and haven't found any problems.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hey Ray,

I had a similar problem which was probably different than yours, but here it is for your info. I couldn't access EXCEL or WORD. I would get a lock up and eventually a "can't open excel' message. The short of it was my NORTON had gotten corrupted and because it was set to scan those documents upon opening, it cause them to halt.

Maybe that tidbit will lead you somewhere. Good luck.
