I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. I have an Acer Aspire One AOA150 netbook, and it was showing UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME as a stop error for windows XP. I tried using the Recovery Console to repair the disk errors, but the utility gave me an error saying the drive had one or more unfixable errors. After this, the hard drive was no longer recognized by the BIOS. What can I do to fix this problem? If the problem requires a hard drive replacement, what size hard drive do I need to get (1.8" or 2.5")?

A:Acer Aspire One AOA150 hard drive not detected in BIOS

You need a 2 1/2" laptop hard drive either SATA or IDE. Be sure to remove the drive and check for this before you buy a replacement laptop hard drive

I have been having problems with my ACER notebook booting for a while. It first started to shut down automatically at various times, leaving me unable to successfully reboot for around ten minutes after automatic shut down. When computer did eventually reboot i encountered an option screen with the various booting options. After this happened for a while i was advised to use the system recovery disks. Halfway through a full recovery the computer shut down automatically. I am now left with a completely wiped hard drive, with no operating system and it still will not allow reinstall windows. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with my problems!! I am suspicious that i may have a boot sector virus. I have no idea what to do now... is there any hope of saving my computer?

You should definitely update the BIOS, as the old one I believe crashes the laptop if you enter the BIOS and save settings. As for the rest, I have no idea if these settings are available, you will find ut once you are there

I failed in updating the BIOS as per Acer's instructions, and now I have a bricked PC.

I'm trying to restore the original BIOS, but not having any luck. The PC boots, I hear two beeps - one short one long, and then it hangs. The power cycles to the devices & the fan, but it doesn't do anything. I tried it with the BIOS jumpers set both at 1-2 and 2-3. No luck.

What are the key strokes I need to press to force BIOS reset? Or am I toast with this MB?

A:Acer Aspire X1301 BIOS update crashed

Hello gerry and welcome . Mate how old is the machine mate? cos if you have bricked it as you think you have you maybe up for a new one but.....

The other thing is why did you try updating the BIOS? and was this the one you tried updating from Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Desktop / Aspire / Aspire X1301

There are plenty of Googles for that problem and from what I have come across two beeps usually refers to some things in the RAM here are some refs
Computer POST and beep codes

What I would try myself first is to remove the battery lave it for a good hour or so - I have had some IBM jobs that required longer - replace with a new one, reseat the RAM and try again.

I'll keep scratching round in the meantime. Found this if it is of any help but I still think the battery change will narrow it down a bit

I'm wondering if I should get the BIOS update from Acer for my laptop.
I've been having some audio stutter issues that seem to be fixed by disabling the LAN from 'device manager' (a pretty common problem and solution, apparently).

I just wonder if getting a BIOS update will make my computer more stable, because I don't want to have to keep disabling my LAN just to stop audio stutter and, in some cases, spikes in the CPU usage.
Is it safe to update my BIOS? Would I need to back-up any data before I do it?

A:BIOS Update for Acer Aspire 7720 running windows 7

Crazyedd, BIOS updates usually list info on what the update fixes. If it states that it can fix your audio issue then you should do it. If not, update your complete specs, using the link under my sig, and post in the sound and audio thread and a member will help you. Also make sure your drivers are up to date.

I had updated my driver with BIOS version 2.10 from windows. BIOS installed successfully but after restart, screen went black. Screen is totally off, no activity with hardisk, no beep sounds, shows power is turned on and fan is spinning. I let it on for about 3-4 minutes and showed no progress. So, I turned off holding power button. Later every time I turn on the laptop nothing shows up with power is on and fan spinning. Someone please help me to recover my BIOS.

Hello everyone.

OK, everything began since the monitor got damaged and was in a bootloop after hibernating Windows. So, we decided to repair the laptop, they said they no longer have parts for the monitor (although it got itself fixed while going home), but they fixed the bootloop. It was a installed with a Windows 8. After I opened "This PC", the 2nd hard drive was missing. My mom asked if they removed it or not, Acer replied that they did not removed the hard drive. I tried installing Windows 7, but the installer only saw the 1st drive. After installing Windows 7, I checked the BIOS (InsydeH20 Setup Utility), but it just really showed up the 1st one. So for now, I am only using 1 drive, and trying to keep my drive to have more space. Is there any fix for it? Please reply.

I just bought this and the hard drive is already filling up fast. Will getting an SD card make a difference? What can I do about this? I won't be doing anything fancy on it - just internet access and using the basic 3 MS Office products. Right now there's only 654 MB of space left. I have not yet installed my printer driver on it because I want to see what the resposnes are. Should I get an SD card and install the printer driver on the SD card? More info:eMMC 16GB2GB DDR3 L Memory Thanks!

my laptop is an acer which has:
intel core 2 duo t6400 (2 ghz,800mhz fsb, 2 mb l2 cache)
15.6" hd acer cinecrystal lcd
1244mb mobile intel graphics media accelerator 4500mhd
4gb ddr2
500gb hdd
dvd-super multi dl
802.11a/b/g/draft-n wlan
.........................................
its a hardware thing....................
its one hard drive which has vista home premium|acers erecovery partition-hidden| Ubuntu 9.04...........with Grub bootloader

basically i want to remove the hardrive, then put in a smaller capacity hardrive where i install ubuntu and windows 7 on it......

the question is would i be able to swap the hardrives around... without damage to the 500gb installed OS'....i.e. when i dont' want to use the 80gb i plug in the 500gb and the installed OS' load normally with no errors...

A:acer aspire 5735-hard drive swap

If I understand you correctly I think you mean you want to be able to swap between 2 hard drives on your laptop, please correct me if I'm wrong

In answer to your question, yes you can do this without damaging the operating system on your HDDs but be sure to remove them when the machine is powered down.

I have had experience with replacing HDDs on various laptops including Acers and just wanted to give you the heads up that it can be more difficult than you think to get into the HDD bay; especially if you have to remove the whole plastic case to get to it.

However why do you not simply buy a cheap USB 2.5" caddy and put your smaller drive in there, then boot from it via USB? It would not require you to open up the laptop every time and would in most case be more convenient for both sharing files and quick OS changes. The only downside is that your drive may not have the performance of it's internal counterpart but that shouldn't be too noticeable in most cases.

Hi.I've been attempting to upgrade the hard drive on my acer aspire 4920. from 120gb to 320 gb .Tried using recovery disks but after successful install I get the restart message then nothing on reboot. Also tried cloning the original disk to the new drive but still no luck. (get the restart loop)Been considering updating to the latest bios (version 1.21) but leaving that action open as a last resort.Anyone help with this?

A:Acer aspire hard drive upgrade doesn't work.

You didn't say which OS you have but with Windows 7-up you should be able to create a recovery flash drive and save a system image on a hard drive. Then use the recovery drive to restart the machine with the new disk and when asked, tell it to recover from the system image you saved. ps this works if going from a smaller to an equal or larger disk but not to a smaller one.

A:Acer-Aspire V3 laptop hard-drive died, no recovery disk

The Windows 8 key is embedded in the BIOS, there is no COA sticker.

I believe you will have to wait for the recovery disk if you want Windows 8 as you will not be able to download a Windows 8 ISO without a retail key. Microsoft really screwed this up and has made no attempts to fix it.

You can do a clean install of a Windows 7 upgrade disc, see here: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hi All Recently my older Acer Aspire - notebook hard drive failed on me It s about yrs old Was running Vista Home I of course like an never burned the recovery media from the hard drive And it s just my luck that Acer no longer has the recovery media available They told me there was nothing recovery no hard media Acer longer failed... available? drive Aspire they could do for me and directed me to Microsoft My question is this I have Windows Vista home running on my Acer Aspire hard drive failed... recovery media no longer available? Desktop If I smack in a new hard drive in the notebook can I use the recovery media from the Desktop to reinstall the OS on the notebook If not do I have any other options I guess I could always run Ubuntu I know this is an older notebook not necessarily worth a lot but I d like to keep this running for my wife She uses it primarily for web surfing and she s hogging my laptop like crazy every since her s died Thanks in advance Frank nbsp

A:Acer Aspire hard drive failed... recovery media no longer available?

You can't legally used your Desktop's recovery media on your laptop (also because usually manufacturer's build such medium for a particular piece of hardware, with all drivers etc. pre-installed).

I think you can either choose to run Ubuntu or you can get one of those cheap OEM windows media from e.g. newegg. However, one draw back of this is, I believe you can't get any help from Microsoft directly, if you ever need it.

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct sub-section of the forum but couldn't see a more appropriate place.

Any advice appreciated: I'm trying to do a factory restore on my Acer Aspire laptop, as it started crashing, stalling etc. and then eventually just failing to boot up. I've gotten a fair bit of my important stuff off it using a Linux (Knoppix) disc, so am ready to do a factory restore.

However, when I try to do so, I get the error message: "WIMApplyImage Fail. Error: 045D" then I click on "OK" and it says "FAIL to restore image"

Any ideas? I'm worried that my hard drive may be physically damaged. When I listen it's making the odd whirring/clicking noise, but doesn't sound particularly out of the ordinary to me.

Or, on the other hand, does anybody know of any alternative options to the in built Acer factory restore?

Thanks,

Chris

A:(Acer Aspire laptop) Factory Restore failing - hard drive damaged?

Hi Chris. Welcome to TSF.

Have you tried opening up a terminal window and running chkdsk /r on your system? You might also run "sfc /scannow" from within the terminal window as well just to see if perhaps your problems are system-file related.

The clicking noise you're hearing is a bit troubling as it is often an indicator of an impending hard drive failure. I'm glad that you backed up your stuff though. Often that is one thing many people do NOT do and then they are left scrambling for ways to recover their data.

Good day!

Mike

Reboot the system and let the command execute to completion...system will boot into XP when done. You might also take a look in Event Viewer for errors, not information items, which might provide some clues as to what might require attention. How To Use Event Viewer - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/40108/how-to-use-event-viewer/ Your first line speaks of having a virus...then the rest of your post bespeaks of items which no one could logically conceive of as being appropriate treatment of an infected system.I have to ask...which is it, in your mind? A Windows/system problem...or a virus? If freezing of the system is what you consider to be "the problem"....there are many situations that might cause such, with overheating of system the most obvious candidate. Other candidates include malware, corrupt system files, hardware difficulties.Which is why it's important to check Event Viewer for possibly pertinent error messages.Louis

I know this has been asked before but the answers given have not worked.1.  Edit the registery.2.  Disable fast startup.I have an Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black (VN7-791G) with Windows 8.1.  I want Num Lock on always.  When I boot the machine in the morning it is off.  When I wake the machine after a period of inactivity it is off.  I have edited the registry under the keyboard settings per other replys in these forums with no change.  I have disabled fast startup per replys in these forums again with no change.  I contacted Microsux because I think it is a windows issue but they said to contact Acer.  Acer chat is of no use they want you to pay them to modify the registry.  So here I and I believe others are stuck with a machine that does its own thing.

You would have to delete the junk Acer installs on your computer. Its not something built into Windows. I don't have an Acer...even if I did...I wouldn't know what program it is.

A:New hard drive not found & unable to update BIOS

You have a pretty new computer the BIOS isn't your issue with the drive. Most likely it's DOA, your cables are bad or even your mobo has issues. Swap out the new drive with your main drive and check that the BIOS to be sure the drive can be seen and there aren't any issues with it.

The program probley doesn't work correctly in Vista so try an XP PC. Manufacturers are prettty poor on updating utility programs.

For those owning an Acer Aspire Timeline Series...The New Acer Bios from Apr 06,2010 v1.34 screw-up the Intel GMA 4500M HD by reducing the battery life by half, because a box is grayed in the GMA Control Panel.

Acer had provided a second new v1.34 Bios on Apr 07,2010 to correct the wrong settings in the Intel GMA 4500M HD.

As usual be carefull when updating your bios settings.

Find on the screenshot how the settings should be, to improve the battery life. (before the box was grayed & unchecked):

Hello!

I have an Acer Aspire One, that doesn't boot into Windows or into Safe Mode. I have tried to Flash the Bios as explained on many other sites, but I can't get that to run. I have also tried to F8 to Repair Computer option, but I do not get Repair Computer as an option. I'm stumped! When I restart it, it gives me the option to run in Safe Mode, if I do that it gets hung up on file: amdagp.sys. If I start normally it gets stuck on the Windows start screen. Help!!

A:Acer Aspire One won't boot, can't flast bios!

F8 is to access Safe Mode, Alt-F10 is used to access the Acer Recovery partition. See this link on the Acer website. I'm not sure why you were trying to flash the BIOS as that most likely wouldn't fix your boot problem.

Hello,

I will need to access the BIOS of my Acer Aspire One AOA150.

However, I don't actually have the BIOS password; to be fair, I don't know how to get any form of hint for it, either (the message box says 'ENTER BIOS PASSWORD [?]' so there is one, but I don't know how to activate it).

How could I hack this BIOS password, obviously not disassembling a netbook which would be difficult anyway considering it is small?

(Reason: I need to remove Xubuntu and reinstall XP with all partitions belonging to it, which I believe requires BIOS access. I already have a bootable USB with the correct drivers for Windows XP, and I know how to remove most of Xubuntu. I would keep Linux if I had the disc space, though, but unfortunately I have to give it the boot.)

Hi!Last year me and my sister bought this Acer Aspire 4730z model. The technician told me that to install Xp you need to set BIOS Sata Mode to IDE. Because AHCI is for vista. Now i wanna install it for Windows 7 ultimate 32bit.The notebook now runs XP system and in BIOS Sata Mode = IDEWould i change it to AHCI in BIOS for windows 7?If yes?If i insert the Windows 7 Installation Disk upon booting up. Will it detect the XP? because i wanna delete the system in XP and run fresh installation for Windows 7.What is really the difference between IDE and AHCI in bios?Added...Is it compatible to use windows 7 in Acer Aspire 4730z?

A:Acer Aspire 4730z Bios Help for windows 7

Windows 7 is a lot like vista when compared to windows XP.If your tech said to use AHCI for vista. Then you should use it for Windows 7 as well. You also asked "If i insert the Windows 7 Installation Disk upon booting up. Will it detect the XP? because i wanna delete the system in XP and run fresh installation for Windows 7."Yes make sure it formats the hard drive and wipes windows XP off the disk. Because you can NOT upgrade XP to windows 7 anyways. (thats a little rule MS made with upgrading from XP)As I have been reading up on AHCI it is supposed to have a slight performance advantage and it makes the drives hot swapable. (more info on the link below, look for a link to Intel's web site in that MS artical.)If you enable AHCI and have stop errors at any point, please refer to this Mirosoft knowledge base artical regarding AHCI. In fact read it any ways it helps to explain what AHCI is and where to get more info on it from Intel's website.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

I've now read that Acer uses a modified version of bios that hides this option. How do I get in and enable virtualization?

The notebook belongs to a friend. He has had it for less than 4 years. I have tried everything possible. Looking at dead devices etc. The fan, the cmos battery are all in working order. It is not the screen because i connected it to an HDMI monitor and it still will not go thru the boot sequence. I looked for a BIOS update and found references for a different acer model. It could be a damaged motherboard or a component on board the MB. Just asking have I missed something here?

Probably a corrupted BIOS/broken motherboard, if the power is on and shows options, place them here now. If not, you NEED to contact Acer Support, modification of BIOS unoffically/voiding warranty parts like the motherboard will cause you to lose your warranty COMPLETELY. Regardless, Acer support is your best option if it is in warranty.
