Outlook 2013 autocomplete entries for IMAP account

Q: Outlook 2013 autocomplete entries for IMAP account

Hi guys

We're migrating a user from IMAP to POP. She's using Outlook 2013 and has lots of autocomplete entries. There's no suggested contacts folder and no .nk2 files. Any idea where they're stored?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange problem with my IMAP account in outlook 2013. My account does not download my mails after I open the program. I need to go to the send/receive tab and click the  'update folders' button.
I've tried deleting and re-installing the imap account. It also does not fetch the mails when I use the F9 button.
I'm using Win7 (64bit) and Office 2013 Professional Plus (32bit), both office and Windows are up to date according to windows update.
Help would be very much appreciated.

Dear all,
I configured my Outlook 2013 as below:
I created a profile with 2 accounts: one is Exchange mode account, the other is IMAP mode account.
Now I set the Exchange mode account data to E:\email. But the data of IMAP account if in C drive, I want to change it to E:\email too.
How do I change it?
Thank you in advance.

I've got a user whose computer had a CD-ROM drive button missing. Thus we gave her a different one to use since we have that one under warranty. However, the user complains that her autocomplete entries are not showing up when she goes to type in an email address in Outlook 2003.

So I followed this path:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

and copied the NK2 file from her old PC to her new one. When that didn't work I copied the entire contents of this location into the appropriate place on her new PC but that also didn't work.

Is there something else I need to port over? Another file maybe?

Also we did restart Outlook and PC etc. and it did not fix the issue.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

When I loaded Office 2013, and then the first email address, it automatically created an imap account. Which I can't seem to delete. Would rather not have this connected to remote.

Is there a way to create the first account as a pop? Was there an option for doing manually?

I'm wondering if I can uninstall it and install it all over again.

You'll need to set it up again as a new POP3 mailbox and then you can ditch the IMAP one.

Hi there
My main e-mail client is Outlook 2010 with IMAP (I've tried email clients but Outlook for me is still the best and most convenient for handling multiple e-mail accounts including work ones).

I'm thinking of upgrading to Office 2013 -- if I do this has anybody tested the GMAIL integration with Outlook 2013

Works fine with Outlook 2010 on W8 Enterprise edition X-64.

Does anybody know what we are supposed to use in replacement of Public/AppData? I have configured one Outlook 2013 IMAP profile which will be shared (1 mailbox) for all users that logon to this specific machine. In other words, if somebody (anybody) logs on to the machine and launches outlook, it will launch access to this specific IMAP mailbox that I have pre-configured.

Hi there
Has anybody managed to get round the problem of bypassing the TEST SEND / RECEIVE e when setting up new EMAIL accounts on OUTLOOK 2013.

If you are AWAY from your home ISP you can't always SEND --a lot of ISP's block SEND mail unless you are actually logged on to their service or use their webmail facility.

With OUTLOOK 2010 you can disable the TEST SEND / RECEIVE email so you can still SET UP the account.

OUTLOOK 2013 fails because the TEST SEND fails and you can't skip the test.

screenshot of outlook 2010 enc

in 2013 this option doesn't exist -- so I've been unable to set up my Home email account until I get home.

Seems to me a STUPID new feature -- often one wants to set up stuff when away from home -- and test it later.

A:OUTLOOK 2013 -- cannot configure IMAP / POP3 wen away from home ISP

Jimbo, most SMTP servers won't allow you to use port 25 unless they are your ISP. I use port 587 or 2525
to setup my outlook so that I can send and receive while away.

So i have been doing some research ever since reluctantly upgrading to office 2013. for the most part the process was painless save for a few minor tweaks the old outlook settings and all my data was picked up seamlessly by the new application.
my problem is that the new version cannot be set to only download message headers in IMAP and worse yet if you use the slider to limit offline data to 3 months or so there is literally no way i have found to locate older archived messages on the server short of directly logging into gmail or downloading years worth of messages in full just to find a single item.
so my main question is this.  would it be possible to write a COM Add-In for Outlook 2013 that forces the old header only behavior or if the feature was completely removed replaces it all together ?

A:Getting around outlook 2013's innability to only download headers in IMAP

The ability to download headers only is available in 2013 only with POP and Exchange accounts.
I'm not aware of any add-ins that will enable this behavior.

Im not sure about the not receiving IMAP emails in the inbox, there might be some mailbox size limit setup in exchange, and they are over it.

But for the moving emails from inbox to the personal folders:

You can have as many personal folders as you want, but has to be way below the 2gb mark. Honestly I would make sure the personal folders are less than 500mb.

Okay, I have had this problem several times and now I want to know what is causing the problem. In outlook you can add certain folder to your favorites so that they appear like short cuts at the top of the navigation window. But from time to time different imap short cuts don't appear and then I have to close and restart to get the short cuts to reappear.

Any ideas as to why?

A:Outlook 2010 and IMAP account

Also if you go to the inbox, if that is one in your favorites, and right click it gives you the option to remove from favorites even though it is not displayed. After removing and adding will also show them back at the top. But this is a pain in the back side.

I have an Exchange account and an IMAP account, both of which I access using Outlook. However, when I connect remotely to the network using my RDC connection and open Outlook I have problems.

First, I get a message like "file C:\Docs and Setts\blah\Local Setts\App Data\MS\Outlook\[email protected] could not be found" where [email protected] is the name I have given the IMAP account.

Secondly, I can not send emails at all. They remain stuck in the outbox.

If I remove the IMAP account I can send the emails again.

I have no such problems on my own PC running win2000 Pro and Outlook 2003, connecting to the same Exchange server on the same network.

The remote server is using Windows Server 2000 and Outlook 2003.

Does anyone know of a bug which might cause this problem?

Is there a way to make outlook delete mail in the sent folder with a imap account? I delete them and they stay, albeit with a strikethrough showing they are marked for deletion. But the only way to delete them so they are gone is go to my webmail page of the account and delete them there.

A:delete sent outlook mail imap account w/o doing it in webmail?

IMAP protocol's biggest advantage is also its biggest problem: the folders are and remain synchronized. You can move the sent messages to another folder to keep Sent folder empty, but in doing so both the Sent folders (local and server) will become and show empty.

Simple answer to your question: no, it's not possible. Check your provider if it is possible for you to use POP3 protocol, it would allow you deleting locally and keeping files on server and vice versa.

After three hours or so of frustration and annoyance, it dawned on me that I have Google 2 tier verification turned on and then used the unique password to configure my Outlook POP3 account successfully.

When I attempted to add an IMAP account, however, I wasn't so lucky. It won't configure automatically (like Pop3 did) so I've gone to recommended manual settings, used the unique password, inserted the recommended port designations for incoming and smtp servers, but as soon as I attempt to initiate the account I get a popup window: The Requested Operation Failed.

I do want to use an IMAP account, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi all

I haven't discovered a way yet of switching a POP3 account to IMAP without deleting and re-defining the email account in Outlook 2010.

IMAP is a better way if you access the same email account from multiple machines. If the account was originally defined with POP3 there doesn't seem any mechanism to change it to IMAP without deleting and re-creating the entire account.

This means backing up and restoring all the messages, address books etc before doing this -- a bit of a pain if you have to do this for 50 - 100 users and their email accounts.

Any quick fix or have I missed something.

A:Outlook 2010 cannot change POP3 account to IMAP

You haven't missed anything, as far as I know there is no way to change pop to imap.

A bit of a warning though, in the past when I have switched users from pop to imap and I added the additional IMAP account then moved the stuff from the pop account folders to the IMAP, sometimes email etc just disappears completely despite saying it had copied.

you can simply move the emails of your pop account by going to "edit" on the top left corner and "select all" you'll see that all your emails are selected, then right click and select "move to folder" and move it to your IMAP mails location. and doing this may allow you to remove the pop3 account.

This issue just has started. It worked for the 3 years I have owned 20007. I have all the correct boxes checked, I think. The only thing I changed, which coincided with the alerts not working, was added an IMAP account.

Could the adding an IMAP account disable the desktop alert feature?

A:Outlook 2007: No Desktop Alert on new emails after adding IMAP account

First let me clarify. I don't have Outlook 2007. But I do have 2003 on one of my machines. That said, I don't believe that just adding an IMAP account would have an adverse effect on your alert settings unless you somehow inadvertantly disabled the feature during the setup of the account. Again, I'm working with 2003, but in my main navigation menu, under Tools, I have a category for Rules and Alerts. This includes an interface for setting up the various rules for your email alerts. I'd start there and make sure all of your preferences are still set up correctly.Hope this helps,Bill

I know the server settings are correct because they work on my phone and at my office. This is an Exchange 2010 account. It makes it through the auto discovery, then says that I have to restart outlook. When I restart outlook it pop-up with windows security window, so I input username and password.
This pops up.

Then this.

Then this.

The exchange server name shows up as a .local which would work if I was on the network at the office.

A:Outlook 2013 Cannot add a new account

For starters, there is a certificate error. Is your company using a self-signed certificate? If so, you'll need to import the root certificate from your company's certificate store into the computer you are trying to connect with.
You said you know the server settings are correct, and that the exchange server name ends in .local. That server can only be accessed from computers connected to your company's network. If you are trying to connect from home, you will need to contact your IT department to ensure the Outlook Anywhere service is enabled on the Exchange server. Your phone can connect because it is using a different protocol than what Outlook uses.

2- The second problem is that I have to enter the credentials 4 times before it gets connected again! it is similar to what happens when the password is wrong, however, I just check the remember password and click on Ok 4 times and am connected

HOw can i selectivly delete autocomplete entries?

I have an aunt whose computer i am working on , and her nephew was up to some bad things, HOwever she does not want all of her entries deleted, because she uses them often, is a slow typer and there are over onehundred of them.

Are these values stored in the registry or where?

A:Selectivley Deleteing Autocomplete Entries (IE)

To selectively delete the entries, go to a page with a form, click in a form field containing the auto-complete entries you want to delete, press the down arrow on the keyboard to display everything in the list. Then use the down arrow to select on, press the delete key on the keyboard and keep going until all the unwanted entries are gone.

This method does not work, however, in the Start>Run box. The Run history is stored in one (or both) of these folders:
Hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\runmru. Simply look in the window on the right for the entry you want to remove. Each stored entry is listed with a letter in the Name column, and the complete entry appears in the Data column. Select the name of the entry you want to remove, press Delete.

Okay.... I'm baffled on this one. Am a professional tech, with a great deal of experience with systems, but have no clue what's controlling this....

WinXP Home... all service paks installed
Internet Explorer 6.... ditto.

Just rebuilt my father-in-law's system within the last 60 days from scratch, so it's nice and clean. Only additional apps are SpyBotSearch&Destroy and AVG AntiVirus-Personal, Google toolbar. He uses this system exclusivly for web browsing, and e-mail. Internet access is via DSL, no goofy MSN/AOL/etc.

With Form Autocomplete enabled in Explorer, the problem is that for a given web page, Explorer is purging autocomplete form entries that are over X days old. We have proven this by having him enter in the desired form field a date tag, for example; for today he'd enter '19Mon'. Deletion occurs on Mondays, for days N-12 thru N-5... so today, '07Wed' thru '14Wed' disappeared.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Huge!

Outlook 2013 requires (and there is no option unlike in Outlook 2010 to disable it by unchecking a box) a TEST email to be sent and working before your account(s) can be configured-- Once it's done you don't have to be online but if you need to set up several accounts and you don't have a working internet connection -- Tough luck....

Of course you can uncheck the Test email box. It has been so in all Outlook versions, is still so in Outlook 2013.

The option is grayed out exactly as long as the NEXT button is grayed out i.e. as long as they could not be used due missing credentials, until the setup has all relevant information for an email account to work (email address, incoming and outgoing servers, username and password). When you have filled the needed credentials, both the Test box and NEXT button become visible and can be clicked / selected.

Although I could well understand that setting up an email account, which in any case needs a working connection, would require an existing connection, this is not the case with Outlook 2013. You can set your email accounts up while sitting in a pub in Brussels watching Premier League Football without Internet connection if you want to .

I have a desktop Pc and a laptop Pc with Office 2013. I want to export the contacts fra from the desktop to the laptop and when I export to a csv file on the desktop the e-mail adresses is missing in the file. They are not in the csv file. When I import it on the laptop names, phonenumbers, adresses etc. is ok but no e-mail adresses.

I think it is strange and I have not experienced it with Outlook 2010??

I imported the backup.pst and it did the trick.

A:Export Contacts from Outlook 2013 to Outlook 2013 on another Pc?

when exporting as a csv file you have to map custom fields first and take the email 1 address and move it into the other side for the addresses to get in there (from left to right) or the email addresses will not go correctly into the computer you want to do it to. If you back it up with *.pst then everything goes in much easiwer

I've been using IE9 beta for a couple of months and have a minor issue concerning AutoComplete. I have it turned off via Internet Options. Every time I use IE9 to search for a website I get a pop-up at the bottom of my screen asking if I want AutoComplete to remember web form entries.

I used Option 3 to see if I needed to edit the AutoComplete registry entry but it's not even showing.

I have a habit of clearing cookies whenever I turn off my computer so I thought this pop-up was cookie related. It's not. It still shows up even if cookies have not been deleted. Is this just an annoying glitch in IE9 or do I need to configure some other setting?

A:Turn off "AutoComplete to remember web form entries" pop-up in IE

Hello Lee,

Not sure if just clicking on No in the pop-up alone would stop it from popping up again.

This tutorial is not really for that, but you might see if using step 2 in OPTION TWO may be able to stop the Auto Complete message from popping up again afterwards.

I'm using Word 2013 on a Windows 8.1 machine. I've entered custom entries into the Auto Correct options (File, Options, Proofing, Auto Correct Options, under replace text as you type I've made custom entries, then clicked add). After clicking okay to close the dialog boxes all looks good. Only problem is that when I type Dr. W - instead of the full name of the doctor appearing in the document-- nothing happens. I still have to manually type out the whole name. When I check the list of the custom entries -- everything is there entered correctly. Any ideas?

Good Morning All,
We currently have our emails hosted by an offsite server, we are using Microsoft Outlook as our email program.  We currently are backing up the .pst file daily and also the entire folder that the .pst file is in.
My question is, if the email server goes down and all of the emails on the server are lost, will the .pst file we have backed up still contain all of the emails, or when it send/receives, will it be updated and the messages erased?
I want to make sure that the emails are protected in the event of a disaster.

A:Backup IMAP account

That's a question that you need to ask the email provider. Ask them there policy on email storage if a disaster happens. That's something that they can tell you better than us. As far as backing up the email locally using .pst files, to my understanding backups your local mail that you've already received. Most email accounts that are stored on the server are backed up either weekly or monthly and are saved as inbox.saved or something similar, that way they can backup your email if anything happens.
You can do a test, and see what happens. Create you an email on the email server, and let it sync to your outlook program. Then delete the email off of the email server, and see what happens on outlook. Does the email go away, or does it stay as a locally cached copy? Doing that will give you an idea of what happens to your mail if it gets deleted, does it stay or does it go...
Typically your viewing the emails that are on the server through Outlook UNLESS you move them off the IMAP server to your outlook client, and then they are erased off of the IMAP account and stored locally on the pc for archiving purposes. So essentially if your email ever got erased off of the server, then the email provider would have a backup of your inbox, and could restore your mail.

HI Guys, tried uninstalling office 2010 to open Outlook 2013 when I got the two following errors:

1: The resource that you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft exchange. Contact your email administrator for assistance.

2: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Your Microsoft exchange administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance.
Does anyone know what these two errors are referring to and how I can fix it so I can start using Outlook 2013?

I had Outlook 2003 autocomplete on this Windows Xp pc for years and grew dependent on it. It was there for me every day regardless of how often I opened and closed Outlook.

My hard drive crashed and Outlook 2003 was re-installed. Ever since then, every time I close Outlook, it "loses" all my autocomplete names. I checked my Outlooks settings, it's set on--I knew it was because I get them for the current session of Outlook only.

I went to the Microsoft site and it suggested that I had a corrupt *.nk2 file. Following a link on this site, I did find my .nk2 file and renamed it (as instructed on the Microsoft site), but still no luck.

What else can I do to keep all my autocomplete names from day to day?

I'm desperate and stumped!! Thanks.

So, I have been using Outlook 2010 with Exchange and a number of POP accounts. It is not unusual for me to change the FROM account to pick a different email address to show as the sender.

HOWEVER, I recently changed my gmail accounts from POP to IMAP and now, when I try to send as any of them, the outbound message stays stuck in my outbox.

Sending FROM an exchange email works fine and clears the outbox immediately
Sending FROM a POP email works fine and clears the outbox immediately
Sending FROM an IMAP email the message sticks in the outbox and never clears

Funny though (weird not haha) that when I test the account...
File > Account Settings > Change > Test Account Settings

But when I send using New E-mail, THAT MESSAGE STAYS STUCK in the outbox.

A:Send as IMAP account not clearing messages from OUTBOX.

Many times Outlook won't immediately send a new message but have to click the Send/Receive icon on the toolbar. I've seen a business desire to not send from Outlook until the end of the day and the last thing done was to click Send/Receive.

In Outlook 2003 (and XP too if I remember right), Outlook will try to autocomplete an email address when you try typing one in the address field of a new email message. However, if I have 5 people in my address book who's display names start with "sm", I can type sm and Outlook gives me 2 addresses to choose from to autocomplete, sometimes 4, sometimes 5...I don't understand why Outlook doesn't always autocomplete my addresses. This is an awkward question so I hope it is clear enough.

A:Outlook Autocomplete

My guess is that there is too many to choose from so it requires more letters to *autocomplete*. I never have seen it NOT do it. Don't forget it will autocomplete on both display names AND addresses.

Is there an option to have email addresses automatically fill themselves in the Outlook 97 on Windows 98 like in outlook express? I've looked but couldn't find it. Thanks.

It's under Tools>Options>Preferences Tab>Email Options button>Advanced Email Options button at the bottom, check "Automatic Name Checking."

Unlike Outlook Express, which completes the To line as soon as it has enough information, Outlook won't complete it until you've tabbed to another field.

Hi, welcome to TSG!

In Outlook, if you start to type the name, then tab out of the TO field, Outlook will resolve the name to a matching one in your address book. If there's more than one possible match, it'll underline what you typed in squiggly red. Right-click it to select the name you want.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a basic form with an input element for email
2. Add autocomplete attribute with value "email" and name attribute with some random value (not email).
3. When filling this form, autocomplete doesn't work(no previously used values of emails are listed).

Actual results:

No previously filled values of email are listed even though we have provided autocomplete attribute as email.

Expected results:

Previously used values of emails should have been listed as we have provided the autocomplete attribute as email.

Hi all
Is there anyway to make the Delete function in Outlook 2010 work the same as in Outlook 2007 (and earlier) with IMAP.

In Outlook 2007 delete doesn't actually DELETE the email but just puts a line through the items. Mail is actually deleted when you go to ==>edit===>PURGE.

In Outlook 2010 it deletes the mail straight away (like POP3 defaults).

I prefer the old method as I often use more than one computer for email and need to ensure that I've copied all relevant emails to local folders on the relevant machines before physically deleting email from the server.

Having a line through the items makes it easy to quickly check whether I've "deleted" something I need on another machine.

I can see lots of people usuing corporate email sytems with remote laptops / "roaming machines" coming to grief with this issue.

I've added Outlook to Windows Firewall. I've turned off Avast (v9.0.2021). Running Outlook 2003 v11.8330.8405 on Vista SP2. I've gone as far as I can with the ISP's support (they've added my IPs to their firewall etc). I've checked the port numbers. I've made sure that the SMTP server is getting authorisation.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi there, not sure if anyone will know this one, but hope you don't mind me asking.

I'm using the Calendar on MS Office Outlook 2003. When I'm creating a new appointment, the box for 'Location' allows me to access 10 previous entries, so I don't have to write them out again. I presume these are saved by an Autocomplete process.

I would like Outlook Calendar to save more than 10 locations. But I can't find anywhere to adjust the number of previous entries saved by Autocomplete.

It may be impossible, but I'm hopeful that there is a way if someone could just tell me where it is!

I have several IMAP accounts setup in Outlook 2010. Autocomplete for frequently used email addresses on creating a new message has been working fine. Two days ago, I set up a new Outlook email account using the new account wizard. This successfully configured a new Microsoft Exchange account in addition to the existing IMAP accounts. However, the autocomplete function has lost the previous store of email addresses and has started learning them all over again.

It seems the autocomplete data is stored in \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache. I've listed my files below but I can't work out how to force Outlook to use the autocomplete file it was previously using. How do I fix this? Note there are three autocomplete files but Outlook is currently using the small recent file instead of the older larger file which presumably contains the data I need.

Hello all,

Perhaps someone may be able to help me out here:

Outlook caches it's autocomplete into a .nk2 file which is saved in:

XP: drive:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Vista & 7: drive:\Users\user\Application Data\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
I want to transfer this file from an laptop with XP and Office 2003 to a PC with Windows 7 and Office 2007. How can I do this?

Thanks in advance

A:Importing AutoComplete (.nk2) File into Outlook 2007

Don't worry guys, I've found a solution - it may be a way around the problem but it definately works

Just in case someone else is suffering from the same problem here is my solution:

I downloaded NK2Edit - it's just an .exe file so it wont clog up your hard drive with installation files. I opened two windows, one with the old .nk2 file and one with the new .nk2 file and then I copied and pasted the emails and saved it as Outlook.nk2 and then I went to C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlookand renamed the existing Outlook.nk2 to Outlook OLD.nk2 just as a back up. Then I pasted the new Outlook.nk2 into the folder then restarted outlook.

Microsoft Outlook somehow saves all email addresses that you send to, even if they aren't part of your contacts lists. When typing filling out the To section of a new message, Outlook tries to autocomplete with a huge list of email addresses that you have used in the past. I find it extremely annoying to repeatedly see an email address that I used only once several months ago and will never use again.

Where does it same them? How do you remove them?

Hey everyone. How you doin?

I think this may have been asked thousands of times before but I have not yet found a satisfactory answer.

I would like my Outlook 2010 deleted emails to go in a deleted items folder like my the deleted items in my POP account do. All that happens when I delete an email is a line is drawn across the email and it's greyed out.

Is this possible to do?

Many thanks in advance.

I have set Gmail in Outlook 2010 and the set up went flawlessly. I have noticed that it takes way too long to check mail. Someone said to configure pop instead of imap and it would be faster. I found a tutorial on this and it did not work. Any one know how to help me with this? Thanks,

A:Outlook 2010 imap too slow

I just tested changing an IMAP Gmail account to use POP instead, following the instructions found on this site. Just choose your Outlook version from the list. Works flawlessly.

You have to enable POP, of course, from the Gmail settings: Open Gmail web interface, click Settings, and check POP is enabled.

I am migrating my data to another Windows 7 computer running Office 2010. I have a large gmail account, containing over 50,000 emails. I want to keep my old emails for research/tracking purposes. I am wondering what you recommend I use, POP3 or IMAP? I currently use POP3 on my older desktop but see that Outlook will automatically set up your account using IMAP. What are the advantages to this?

You need to work with your company's IT support so they can review your account and your settings, there is no way for us to tell if they are correct and autodiscover (if it is even set up) only works for outlook everywhere usually through a proxy.

Does anyone know a way to have the IMAP account as the default .pst (Personal Folder) in outlook instead of having 2?
Thanks in advance!

A:IMAP Personal Folder In Outlook

Hi dztraw, welcome to TSG. As I understand it (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), the IMAP pst is a temporary file that is used when opening Outlook, so it cannot be the default pst. In addition, the IMAP pst contains only mail items - not calendar, contacts, etc. It looks like there's third-party software that might change that, but I don't know how well it works. Search for "insight connector" if you need more information. Hope that helps.

Has anyone else tried to use Outlook 2003 IMAP and if so, have you ever tried to export your email to a PST file? For some reason, for us it's taking FOREVER and doesn't actually ever finish (tried on a 100MB mailbox) and if you select "work offline" it gives an error message.

Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone have success with Outlook IMAP in terms of bringing in a Gmail Account?
After reading all the setting I have:
1.  Set Gmail to use IMAP.
2.  Configured Outlook correctly with ports and setting.
3.  I then spin my wheels are messages say user id and password are not correct.
4.  Also set Gmail to "lower" security settings.
5.  Crazy thing is it works without problems with POP3.
Suggestions are welcomed.

Make sure you've configured Gmail for IMAP, and make sure you've set everything in Outlook that needs to be set.

I've an interesting new problem with Outlook that I cannot seem to find anyone else having.

After installing the Windows 8.1 update (this may not be related) my Outlook 2003 will not allow me to accept the suggestions in the dropdown provided by the autocomplete function.

The .nk2 file seems to be in good working order and only has around 400 entries. It suggests email addresses just fine, but when trying to accept a suggestion either by clicking on the dropdown or pressing enter either nothing at all occurs or I get a return. The editor window also seems to flicker when you do this as if it is losing the focus.

Anyone have any ideas?

A:Solved: OUtlook 2003: Moving autocomplete settings to a different PC

I dont know if you have this feature but if you have the full Office 2003 edition you might.

1. Click Start > All Programs
2. Select Microsoft Office, and highlight Microsoft Office Tools.
3. Click Save My Settings Wizard.
4. Go through the Wizard. Dont change any settings.
5. When complete navigate here: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\
6. Cut and paste this file "New Settings File.OPS" to a USB or CD.
7. Place that file (New Settings File.OPS) from the USB or CD on the computer you would like to transfer settings to in My Documents.
8. On the computer you would like to transfer setting do this:

1. Click Start > All Programs
2. Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard.
3. Click the button "Restore Previous Settings To This Machine".
4. Click Next and specify, on the new machine, where the file is that you pasted from the USB or CD.
5. Click Finish and you're all done.

When use Outlook to get my email, a short message appears saying it is updating cached headers. I have no problem with this, except it says there are over 11000 cached headers to update, and my IMAP folders only contains about 32 emails total.

Where are all these cached headers stored? In Outlook? On the server? Is there a way to clear them out?

A:Solved: Outlook and IMAP cached headers

I solved the problem with the cached headers updates:

My IMAP store has about 300kb of message content. The local pst folder should contain no more than this.

I checked the folder size (right-click on IMAP folder, select Properties, then Folder Size) and it said something close to 200Mb. I tried the Compact Now button on the Properties/Advanced page but it didn't do a thing.

Looking at the folder properties, I got the pathname of the pst file that the IMAP folder uses. I exited Outlook, then manually renamed that pst file to something else.

Entering Outlook again gave an error since it couldn't find the pst file. However, Outlook automatically recreated it after exiting and restarting Outlook. (I don't know if the restart was necessary.)

After Outlook synchronized the new folder with the IMAP store, I saw a lot of old emails marked for deletion that I had deleted earlier. I purged them, and then checked the folder size. Now it's slightly over 100k. Much better... and no more "updating cached headers" messages!

All of those cached headers seem to have been located in the IMAP store, but weren't showing up in Outlook. Perhaps Outlook has not been purging messages from the IMAP store when told to? This is something to keep an eye on.

Outlook setup seems to be fine. I've used the gmail guide. However whenever I try to access my imap folder in Outlook, I get a message (0X800CCC0E) telling me the server can't be accessed and is in offline mode.

Can anyone help me fix it?

A:Can;t Configure Gmail Imap With Outlook 2003

I've seen the imap setup directions for gmail also, but it seems as though gmail doesn't actually have the site set up to run for imap. The gmail page where you are supposed to configure the mail program for imap doesn't have the imap option present, only pop. This, I suspect, is why you get the cannot find server error.
