Preferred Solution: POPNAV is now my default search engine.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Welcome to TSG!

Go here and download Adaware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest referencefiles.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.
Then go here and download Spybot Search & Destroy.

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press Online and Search for Updates .

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click Check for Problems and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another Hijack This log and we'll get rid of what's left.

Hello nldstorm I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.I would like you to run this program for me.Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.Gringo

I'm sure those who use IE7 are aware of the option to choose a default search engine such as Goolge, Yahoo, etc. which is then displayed on the top toolbar. I have tried to eliminate this feature and remove the toolbar window but I do not see that option. Does anyone know if this is possible? if so, how?

Thank you

A:Ie7 Default Search Engine

See here: (Applies to XP pro)Remove Search Bar IE7Using For other OS versions at the above link:Copy & paste the code into notepad. Choose File > Save as. Name it something like IE7.reg (include the.reg to save as a reg file). Save to your desktop, double click on the reg file to accept the merge.Note: Because what works on my computer without any problems may or may not work on your computer without problems, & because you will be editing the registry (if you use that method), make sure you create a System Restore point, before making the change.

Hi,

I recently made the mistake of installing a program (bitTorrent) and did not read the screens thoroughly enough before clicking 'next'. The program has f%!#ed up my browser (I use IE version 6) so that now when i try to type in addresses without 'www' it doesn't go to them, instead it goes to some noname search service called Ask.com. I frequently type in https addresses for school servers right in the address bar and it used to just go right to them, now i have to type in the 'https://' every time. I removed the toolbar in Add/Remove programs but it still does it. I've looked everywhere in the internet options for the association that causes this but can't find anything. Does anyone know which registry key i can manipulate to get rid of this problem and go back to how it was before?

Thanks in advance

I installed Windows Live Essentials a couple of weeks ago.
It set my default search to Windows Live search. I wanted to reset the default to my usual Google but this program had hijacked my browser and would not allow me select any other search engine as the default.
Does anyone know how to stop it doing this?

I ended up uninstalling it.

A:can't select any other search engine as the default

yep its fairly straight-forward. in the searchbar you should see the down arrow. Click on that and select manage search providers. In the box that comes up you then click on your provider of choice and click the set as default button.

Has anybody else had there default search engine hijacked by microsoft itself. I used to have my default address bar searches go through google. However since installing sp2 it forces me through msn. I use to be able to change this by going into the search button and clicking customise preferences. Now that appears to be gone and the only thing I can change is the default msn search preferences not the default search engine. Has anybody else had this problem and if so do you know how to change it.

A:Arabyonline has taken over as my default search engine in Chrome

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:

At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.

All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.

Please attach all report using button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

Scan with ZOEK

Please download ZOEK by Smeenk and save it to your desktop (preferred version is the *.exe one)
Temporary disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.
Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
Wait patiently until the main console will appear, it may take a minute or two.
In the main box please paste in the following script:

Code:
createsrpoint;
autoclean;
emptyalltemp;
ipconfig /flushdns;b

Make sure that Scan All Users option is checked.
Push Run Script and wait patiently. The scan may take a couple of minutes.

I want to change the engine that IE uses when I type something wrong in the Adress Bar. Not the seach bar. I never use the seach bar to seach. Anyways right now it is set as Charter Communications powered by Yahoo. I want it to be just yahoo. Or google. I dont like the charter one because 3\4 of the page are advertisments and you have to go to the second page to even see your search results. Any help? thank you so much.

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.    Scan with FRST in normal modePlease download Farbar's Recovery Scan Tool to your desktop: FRST 32bit or FRST 64bit (If not sure: Start --> Computer (right click) --> properties)Run FRST. Don´t change one of the checkboxes and hit Scan. Logfiles are created on your desktop. Poste the FRST.txt and (after the first scan only!) the Addition.txt.   Scan with Gmer rootkit scannerPlease download Gmer from here by clicking on the "Download EXE" Button.Double click on the randomly named GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent. If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
SectionsIAT/EATShow All ( should be unchecked by default )Leave everything else as it is.Close all other running programs as well as your Browser.Click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.Once done click on the Save.. button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop. Please post the content of the ark.txt here.**Caution**Rootkit scans often produce false positives. I am having problems with my firefox default search engine. Everytime I switch it to google, it reverts back to Bing if I restart my computer or my browser.

I have been able to fix the problem temporarily by following the steps below, however after a restart it reverts:

Step1: Type "about:config" into the url address bar.

Step2: Type "keyword.url"

Step3: Change the current setting (http://search.conduit.com/ResultsExt.aspx?ctid=CT2504091&SearchSource=2&q=) to google (http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=)

This works great until I restart, and then it goes back to search.conduit.com I have the latest version of firefox 14.1 and windows 7. Is there another place I need to change this setting?

A:Firefox Default Search Engine Keeps Reverting

I have discovered the problem was due to a hidden toolbar I had no idea was installed. It is the Vuze Conduit toolbar. Once I uninstalled vuze and the firefox extension for the toolbar my problem was solved.

Hey Guys
I need your help

I want to determine by registry/policy, that Google is set as Default. I already saw some questions about this here and there, but i tried these settings as recommended, with no success.

So here is what I've done:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A}\

?URL?=?http://www.google.com.au/search?q={searchTerms}&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:{language}:{referrer:source}&ie={inputEncoding?}&oe={outputEncoding?}?

?DisplayName?=?Google?

"(Default)"="Google"

I overwrite all of the Default given Bing Properties and I didnt create a new key or deleted one.

Where is my Problem?

I still get Bing as Search Engine.

Cheers

Ok, for some reason, whenever I type something into the address bar and hit enter (for example "wikipedia"), instead of going to google which will try to guess the domain and then automatically redirecting to wikipedia.com, my searches get redirected to google.co.in. It's very annoying. I went to about:config a million times and reset the keyword.url value to the original

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-...ient&gfns=1&q=

but whenever I exit out of firefox, this value is reset to

http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=

Please help

A:firefox keeps automatically changing default search engine

When Firefox exits, if the pref isn't saved it'll revert to the previous setting. For whatever reason, your changes in about:config don't seem to be saving.

Try resetting the pref from the prefs.js file in your profile folder:-

Close Firefox.

Go to your profile folder (windows) Documents and Settings > *Your User Name* > Application Data > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > *Your Profile Name* > prefs.js

Open the file with Notepad, look for the pref and change the default url to the one you want. Exit and save the file.

Restart Firefox.

Hopefully, that should do it.

I'm using firefox 8.0. Before the default home page of mozilla was a google search engine (the red marked area). But now whenevr i type in that area, ask.com brings my results
The other search bar (green mark) is as it was always, but the main search engine changed. I have an idea , that it might came with km-player or real-player, when I downloaded them. But now how to change it to Google again? I can't find any way.

In that search bar you should see a little triangle. Click it and choose "Manage Search Engines" and make "Google default and then remove or delete Ask...damn thing is both useless and insidious.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Upgrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
Click on Continue.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Does anybody know a good way to change it back?

I have a hunch this is in the userprefs.js file, but I'm not sure what to change and how.

Has there been any update regarding the loss of search engine management that KB2988414 forced on us??? Simply put I cannot manage changing the search engine in WIN7x64 ENT images without them being changed back. I have tried the IEAK, GP, AutoUnattend.xml,
assorted scripts, assorted reg settings all with no success.
here is another reference and an acknowledgment of the issue:

A:Lost Default Search Engine Control Due to KB2988414

Hi Optimum,
IEAK IE11-Setup-Branding package works here (Which need Internet Explorer 11 to install first).
After log off and log on again, the default search provider changed to the settings I have configured in the package.
For the full install package, currently I am not able to build the environment to test it.
So for the current situation, if it is considered to be an available method, you may create a Setup-Branding package after the installation of Internet Explorer 11.
Best regards

Hello gecici I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.

I have google set as the default search engine, yet everytime I launch Firefox, there is the following at the top of the window:

"Get to google faster. Switch your default search engine to google."

How do I shut off this stupid message since I already have google as the default search engine?

Just saw someone in another forum having the same issue, and they resolved it by "accepting the cookie request" at the bottom of the screen. Have you noticed if such a thing is appearing for you?

Chrome changed their default search engine to Yahoo a little while ago, so if you haven't checked the settings for a while, might be worth double checking there also

So I've been using the Google search engine forever. Since the changing the default search engine in Edge is buried in Advanced Setting and way near the bottom, I didn't do it right away. However, yesterday I came across a post on how to change the default search engine in Edge so I changed it to Google without delay.
But then every search came up with an annoying message box in the upper right-hand corner telling me to install Chrome. After half an hour I had gotten so tired of it, I switched it back to Bing.

A:Switched Default Search Engine in Edge from Bing to Google and Back to Bing after Half an Hour

Originally Posted by mrmobileperformance But then every search came up with an annoying message box in the upper right-hand corner telling me to install Chrome That's because Google detects which browser you are using and then decides that you should be using Chrome. I've seen it happen quite often when you visit google.co.uk etc when using someone else's PC, but isn't there a tickbox to tell it not to display again?
I tried changing Edge to Google, but I don't get any message for some reason?

I am trying to figure out why one of my computers redirects your search when you utilize Yahoo, Google, or MSN search. I enter in a topic and the options come up...once I click on any of those web sites I am redirected to other sites. If I use IE or Firefox this happens. I just want to clean up my system.
I have read many of the threads in forums about this but there are many answers so I am not sure which fix is for my system.

Thanks,
Haolegirl

It's a virus that is constantly morphing. Let's see if Mbam will help-----------------------The process of cleaning your computer may require temporarily disabliling some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs---------------------------------If mbam won't installSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run.

A:Occasional hijack of search regardless of search engine

Quite an annoying issue - seems to go to something with iyblwl.net before getting redirected when it does it.
Happens with Bing, Google and yahoo.,

Hello bbgeek,Welcome to Bleeping Computer I wouldn't worry about the network until this is clean. You don't want the other machines on the network to become infected too, so I would suggest you disconnect it anyway. Please download WinHelp2002's DelDomains by right-clicking on the following link, and choosing "Save Target As":http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.infSave the file to the desktop. Then go to the desktop, right click on DelDomains.inf, and choose Install. You may not see any noticeable changes or prompts; this is normal. Then please restart your computer, and post a new HijackThis log. 1. Download this file - combofix.exe2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall. Thanks, tea

A:Web browser search directs to another search engine

Hi thank you for your assistance. My browser is redirecting searches to unknown sites as well as random tabs appearing with sites I haven't requested. I have run a few malware progs etc but nothing has been found. My wife is experiencing a similar problem and we suspect we have both been infected by the same malware from a site we both visited independently

hey i seem 2 have a problem, i can personally access any website with any search engine but when i set up a wireless connection some pages load and some just say "waiting for www.whatever.com..."

i have left it on now for 3 weeks thinking it will correct itself, its now said "loading www.google.co.uk..." for 3 and a half weeks) tried refreshing but no luck

infact tried most stuff but cant get it 2 work, i have tried overclocking his PC and we have gone out and bought some really good cooling, but its still not fast enough, the PC seems to load fine, but firefox or internet explorer dont

his PC is pretty new, but windows update wont work & i cant install MSN messenger on it, even with 17 different install hacks

how does one fix this?

i have a BT Home router (wireless enabled)

Ok.  So.... after updating the image as of yesterday, this issue has disappeared.  Same image.  Haven't done anything differently.

I can actually use my base image, not run updates and replicate the error, but updates between the last time I ran updates (couldn't have been more than two weeks ago) and yesterday, the issue has disappeared.

Thank you MS!

You know where it says www.techspot.com. Yes it has taken it over. There is no bing addon, extension or remove program. I followed a few guides I found googling and they only work until I restart FF. My old search engine was Google in the address bar.

A:Bing has taken over as my default search address bar in Firefox, search provider

In the address bar where it says your search program. Drop down the menu there. You should be able to switch it back to Google

Using Windows XP Pro SP3. When I click Start Search, WindowsSearch comes up and I have to click use Search Companion at the bottom of the window. I want to have Seach Companion come up when I click Search without having to open the 2nd window. Many computers I work with come up with Search Companion as the default. I have not been able to locate the file that opens Search Companion.

Hi,
I like to be able to search for a file quickly and efficiently, preferrably without involving third-party apps.

So when I press the Win key, I like that I can type into the search box directly, but it's annoying that the search scope is pre-set to "everywhere", as for some reason that's beyond me, I get file search results only on the first 2 lines. To get a longer file list, I have to manually change the scope to "files".

Is there a way to set the search scope by default to "files"?

Thanks
Steve

Hi experts I got default-search net when downloading from a large reputable download site which I thought was a safe bet Wrong My antivirus picked up about problems the laptop was going mad with its AVG dings advising of a detection I got AVG to clean up those problems However the laptop was running very slowly so I investigated and deleted the program that I had just installed Using Iorbit uninstaller I deleted the program but just at the end of the uninstall process and before the Iorbit could run its advanced uninstall to make sure that no pieces of the install were remaining in the registry the program froze and that process was not completed I then noticed that default-search net was had become my default search engine So I then ran Firefox from Removing engines Default-search.net search MalwareBytes This removed the problem but on reboot D-F net was back again Then I went into my Firefox profile and found an entry for D-S net and deleted the line All was perfect until a reboot Removing Default-search.net from search engines Firefox I then installed Spybot but that has not found D-S net What file is re-activating D-S net in my Firefox browserand how do I remove it Long before this I de-activated MS Internet Explorer as I do not use it - unfortunately you can't delete it as it is part of the Windows system Many thanks in advance Notes Lenovo G laptop Windows Home Editon AVG antivirus installed Maywarebytes installed Spyboy search and destroy installed after the problem

If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.Step 1Please run a FRST scan. This will help us diagnose your problem. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.(If you are not sure which version (32-/64-bit) applies to your system, download and try to start both of them as just the right one will run.)Start FRST with administator privileges.Make sure the option Addition.txt is checked and press the Scan button. When finished, FRST will produce two logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool was run from. Please copy and paste these logs in your next reply.

This thing is VERY weird. It started when I installed a powertoy for wallpapers. This powertoy looks exactly the same as MS powertoy, except it doesn't require validation. * and it started all kinds of trouble. This MIX.dj can not be get rid off. It is always on firefox when I start this browser. Since it is not even listed as one of the search engine in firefox so I adopted a solution: I set home page as google search. Now, I will not see it although it is there.

No anti spy and malware work.

* Now I downloaded the MS powertoy for wallpapers with validation. And this one is good.

First, my apology if this is the incorrect section in which to post my question.

I have always used Google as my search engine. Lately when I click on Google I get one answer to my question, then the next time I am directed to a Google section where I am asked to sign in. My "question" remains unanswered. (A kind of Catch 22).

I accessed Manage Add ons and looked for other search engines. Bing is now my default search engine.

However there is no shortcut on my desktop, just Google (which still is behaving oddly).

I am doing, or have done, something stupid, I guess.

I really would appreciate someone being kind enough to help me get back to Google which always behaved in the past! Or Bing if that would be just as helpful.

My thanks in advance.

Okay all i am back as usual.. Now I had wanted to make it so my search engine used google to search with first.. I had tried a previous explanation in another post, but what i got was a search engine just like the ones in win 98 and that i dont want. The problem is now I cant even get it to go back to the way it was before.. if i go into customize search engine i get the options just like win 98 where u can choose a few but nothing like win xp's search preferences.. any way i can go back to the original search engine for win xp i would prefer it that way if i have to have it without searching through google first. Thanks

Sweet

Here is the instructions and the registry file from google that you will need to set it as your default in IE. Download the file that they tell you to. You might have to redo the extension, I did. Make sure that the extension ends in .reg. The files name should be google.reg.

Double click it and it will make google the default search engine.

A:What do you think of the new search engine??

It just seems very specific search-wise. If I'm actually looking for something like a website or music, it wouldn't be good. It's only good if I'm looking for information like demographics or a calculation.

I've become paranoid because of recent spyware reports on Google and such, what do you recommend?
Thx ahead...

A:Which Search Engine Should I Use?

It's quite a pick out there. But if you want some assurance on your search engine needs, go get:PeerGuardian 2http://methlabs.orgOnce you set it up, it'll default to a list of about 6 groups. There are actually 20 groups. You'll have to manually load/add those other groups (16 or so)... and from that point, you'll have no doubts about which search engine or web site you visit. It'll show you what you need to know.... and you decide from there.[CAUTION] There are over 2 billion ip addresses on their blocked list. Get to know the program, and you'll better defend your online privacy and security.

Download and run HijackThis save a log and copy/paste the whole thing back here. Chances are you have a simple browser hijack which can be taken care of relatively easily, but often programs like adaware, and spybot s&d won't catch it. Do not fix anything unless instructed to do so by one of our security experts as some of the entries hijackthis finds are legitimate and in fact sometimes neccessary.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. Give this a try:

Go to the item that has the pulldown (like google) and type in an "a". It will have all those items under it. Just put the curser or highlight the first one and start hitting the delete button. Then go right down the alphabet and do that for all you have a concern about. They will be GOOOOOONNNNEEEE!

Let me know if this helps.

A:SEARCH ENGINE

I think you would be better off setting up a proxy other than Startpage. See comments here:For example, search Google, for 'proxy server'. The first link that comes up, you could use to browse the web (and even search from other search engines) anonymously, if you want.So the only thing new about this is that it's directing you to Startpage rather than Google, or whatever your favourite search engine is, which is surely more of a marketing thing - they're getting their adverts up.

A:search engine

You say -"all of a sudden its gone", but maybe you have installed sonething recently that is causing the problem, or changed a parameter in another program. One thing that springs to mind is TweakUI - if you have this onboard check that search results are not disabled within it. This MS Knowledge Base article has details:

http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q274847

If this is not helpful, let us know exactly the difficulty you have - is access to this app missing altogether from your Start Menu?

Is there a free, or inexpensive, search engine that will search the text in the documents in all my files, and not just by file name ?

In other words, literally searching every text word on PC, wherever it might be, looking for a match.

Is there a search engine/browser better than Google that captures more relevant hits?

A:What's The Best Search Engine?

Hello,
I personally think that Google is the best search engine around.
But you can always try:

Yahoo!
MSN
HotBot

I hope that one of these helps! (just click on the name of the search engine and it will take you to the homepage)

Using firefox and Google search engine, I get redirected to sites I have no intention on going to. I assume this is some kind of Malware? I ran a "HijackThis" scan and here are the results. I ran both SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes and nothing showed up. Also ran a AVG scan, nothing (since deleted AVG).

I was referred to this site from a friend and appreciate any help! Thanks
