Broken Toshiba LCD screen

Q: Broken Toshiba LCD screen

Hi all,

So I managed to drop my laptop Satellite C870 - 15K to the floor. It cracked my screen (see attached) so I'm thinking of replacing the screen myself. However before I purchase the screen I wanted to make sure the laptop is still working.

When I try to connect it to my TV through HDMI to verify if the laptop is still function I get no image. I thought maybe it's in standby mode or something so I removed the battery and tried again without luck. When I start up the laptop it sounds normal but I don't hear any windows sound or anything. Any advice on how to continue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Pull off the bottom access panel(s) and make sure the memory and hard drive are seated properly by removing them and re-installing them. It is also possible that the broken screen is shorting out the motherboards video. Try connecting the TV after you remove the LCD panel. One more thought... you have pressed the proper F key to activate the external video port?

Any body out there have experience replacing a laptop screen? Don't have any problem replacing the screen but I'm not sure if it's worth doing. The laptop was given to me with the screen broken. When I plug the power cord in and turn on the unit, nothing happens; no beeps, no lights, not even a sigh. I'd hate to buy a used screen, only to find that the rest of the unit is fryed due to the obvious fall that it took. Any suggestions?

Well, I sure wouldn't do anything about buying a screen until you're sure that's the only issue. If it doesn't do anything, I'm guessing that more than the screen is gone. Since a most likely better new laptop can be had for as little as $400, do you really want to sink money into this one? Start your shopping here:

First question.
1. If there are no cracks on the actual screen that you can reach up and touch, but you see the crack behind the glass, is that the screen broken or backlight broken.

2. Would I look for a replacement screen or a replacement backlight?

3. Since I'm going to replace the screen, backlight whatever, is it possible to make it a touch screen?

Thank you so much for your help.

A:Toshiba A305 broken screen to touchscreen?

1. Its a broken screen, your computer had protective glass in front of the LCD screen it self.

2. well we answered this already.

3. I don't know about this one, I would have to say no, but if it was possible your local PC shop will not be able to do it, and I would assume it would cost a lot of money.

We have a two year old Toshiba laptop, my son tried to clean the screen and cracked it. I have about 2 inches that I can see.

I want to connect it to an external monitor, when I hook it up, I can only see on the external screen until it boots up and then it clicks over to the lap top.

how can I fix this?

Is there any way to replace a broken Toshiba Satellite Laptop LCD screen? My son accidentally broke it by closing the laptop on top of it's mouse is what I'm assuming. There is nothing otherwise wrong except for the screen and I can't stand having to hook a monitor up to it so I can work on it. Also is it hard to replace the screen or is this something that a computer repair shop needs to do? Thank you in advance.

A:Solved: Broken Toshiba Satellite Laptop Screen

Hi there,

Yes, it is very much possible to replace the screen. Usually they run between $150-250, depending on where you find it. And most screens are relatively easy to install as long as you have a small screwdriver and some patience. Someone can easily guide you through it if you have any trouble, but a computer store will charge you a MINIMUM of $60 for labor, if not more, plus handling fees for the screen itself. I'd recommend buying a new screen online and then coming back here and I can guide you through it.

Also, which model Toshiba do you have exactly? I am familiar with most, but just to make sure.

Hope this helps.

A:Broken Toshiba laptop

Hey,

Do you hear the laptop power up and continue to run even when you cannot see the screen? If so, then try pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE after you press the power on button, this is simply to check that the power supply it improperly sending the POWER_GOOD signal or the motherboard is not receiving it.

A:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Hello,

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

My laptop cannot tell me any post after the Toshiba logo just black screen. Cannot get into the bios or anything... These are the things I have tried:
Taken hard drive out,
Taken ram out and only tried one..
Taken Battery Cmos battery out for a few minutes..
Had a look at the motherboard and fan is not even working when I turn it on..
I have taken the cpu and put it back in..
Defiantly Sounds like the motherboard problem but want to know if its just a chip that needs to be replaced and soldered.. If anyone has any ideas that will be awesome.

It's quite possible sufficient damage was done, either by the plug getting stuck or the work in removing it, that the contacts inside the jack have been forced into cutting the speakers circuits off as happens when plugging into it. From the number of Notebooks I've had to junk and take apart first I'd say the only real solution is a new motherboard or a new Notebook. If it were a Desktop one can disable the onboard audio system and get an Add-in Sound card. Or maybe try the USB type speakers.

I appreciate any help. Thanks.

A:Toshiba screen and then black screen only. No boot menu either.

How old is the laptop? It sounds like it's definitely a hardware problem. If it's still under warranty, I'd recommend sending it in. About your project, the only way to get that off of your computer is going to be to take apart the computer and plug the hard drive into another computer. You can buy an adapter (Laptop Hard-drive Bay to USB) for $20-40, they're smaller than a normal PC bay so you can't mount it inside a desktop computer.

A:Screen looks like it's broken, but it's not.

Sorry to say that your screen is broken. In simple terms, an LCD panel is a sandwich that has a layer of plastic over a sheet of glass. It appears that the glass behind the plastic has a crack running from about the center of the bottom edge to about the upper left corner and some of the fluid has leaked out.

If the screen is on a stand alone monitor, it would most likely be cheaper to replace the whole monitor. If the screen is on a laptop, it may be worth replacing the LCD panel with a new one, after cleaning up any leaked fluid that may have made it out of the old panel.

I try to hook it up to an external monitor and it will not work when i hit fn and f4. Also when I press enter or delete the screen goes completely blank... any solutions???

Hi and welcome to TSF have you tried reinstalling the video driver from the hp support site for your model,if your getting no out put to a external monitor it is usually indicative of graphics card \ chip issue you may have caused some damage to it in which case there won't be much you can do

I cracked the 14.1" screen on my compaq evo n600c laptop. It is a matte screen. I want to know if it is possible to replace this screen. If it is, do i have to use a screen specifically for that laptop or can it be any 14.1" screen. My laptop is only worth 175 dollars, so, being on a highschool budget, i don't want to spend too much on it.

A:Broken screen

It has to be the exact part. The cost may be higher that the laptop value.

Hello all,
I have a problem. My screen isn't working properly anymore. It isn't easy to describe the problem so I'll just show it.

As you can see there are alot of strange colors and stuff going on, and they flicker all the time. I have no idea what is going on - I tried changing to another screen but it didn't work, so it has nothing to do with that - it is a computerbased problem. I think it has something to do with my graphic card, but I am not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Here is a pic of me trying to play Warcraft III. Ain't going very well I'm afraid.

Thanks in advance!!! /Dr Dolittle

The only way I can describe this is a dark green blob on the top of the screen with a thin green streak leading off it to the bottom. When I touch the screen it looks like a crack.

I have an old Dell Inspirion laptop with a broken screen. I have irreplaceable files on it that I want to save. When I hook it to a monitor the monitor doesn't detect it and goes into sleep mode. It's too old to connect it to my tv via hdmi cord, and I don't have an s-video cord. Is there an app that I can use with my android tablet as a proxy via usb cord? If not, is there anything else I can do?

sounds like the video card is broken, as the monitor does not work
You wil l need someone to take the harddrive out and use it in a USB Caddy or connect to another PC to get the data off

Hi! So my laptop is about 8 years old and has no service tag. It is a dell latitiude e5530 and the screen case has broken, the lcd is good but the housing for it is broken and so is the frame for it. I'm trying to get a new front and back panel to house the lcd but I can't get an answer anywhere as to how without a service tag. I tried ordering a case from amazon/ebay but even though the model number is the same it didn't fit the camera board in the frame correctly. Any idea how I can order the front and back housing or how I can get one from Dell?

You hook a monitor to it and read the service tag from the F2 Bios screen.

I have a nice laptop with a broken LCD screen. I would like to continue using it as a desktop connected to a regular monitor, but I cannot figure out how to configure it to use the monitor as the primary display because it boots to the now missing LCD. I could configure it were the LCD working, but it isn't. Can anyone suggest a workaround? It is running Windows XP SP3 and I can see the "Windows XP" boot screen for a few moments at startup

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I bought a HP Spectre x360 13t last June, with the hires screen. Today, as I was sitting here working on it - a part of the backlight went out. Now there is a dark streak from top-to-bottom, about 2 inches wide - about 1/5 of the way from the left edge of the screen. It does not seem to be affecting the normal operation of the computer, and I can tell that the color is still functioning, but the backlight is off. It literally happened without me even touching it (I was reading a web page when it blinked off - and I heard a 'pop" sound - so it sounded like a lightbulb burned out...) What do I need to do to get it fixed?

Hi all, new to the forum and looking forward to becoming a contributor myself. I need to survive the first few days of Win8 myself though!

I just performed a refresh of my MSDN RTM copy of Windows 8 and my search screen (from the start screen) is dumbed-down now - i.e.: when I go to the search screen it only searches on apps and does not provide the filter UI that should be on the right-hand side.

Is there a setting somewhere or did my refresh actually break Windows?

TIA!

Seems your having a run of bad luck arent you, first your cable box is dead and now an animal has smashed your laptop screen, seems that 2009 isnt going to be a good year for you...

Ebay is a good place to get screens however and they arent usually to hard to fit.

Take my advice and get rid of the animal, they are cheaper to replace than a laptop screen

Long story short, cleaning the screen while holding speaker in hanbd , speaker dropped and knocked the screen. Glass screen is broken while digitizer and LCD still intact. I was searching the net for a replacement part for it because HP service informed that they will be replacing the whole glass +digitizer+lcd assembly (for quite a big amount  ofc aprox 350 when a new machine in their store is 550)   I do understand that this is my mistake but damage is not in this proportion. Anyway there should be a way to purchase just the glass, which I dismateled fairly easy (under 5 min)

Here is my current laptop LCD (broken) backside angle:
And of the LCD i'm looking to buy (same model, screen size, bl, etc but looks different):
Amazon.com: SONY VAIO VGN-NS255D/S LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 15.4" WXGA CCFL SINGLE (SUBSTITUTE REPLACEMENT LCD SCREEN ONLY. NOT A LAPTOP )

A:Not sure if I should get this LCD replacement for my broken screen

Unfortunately this looks to be a damaged lcd screen. Does any amount of movement of the screen on it's hinges make this change?

Just know that you can run a wired monitor and be back up and running and actually pick up screen size as well run a wireless keyboard and mouse combo.

You couldn't use just any Acer screen. Here are a few for your laptop,http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=v3-572+touchscreen&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1... When you get your screen out, post a pic of the tags on the back.

Today my netbook fell on the ground after my dog accidently pulled the power cable, and my screen broke. It's a gateway LT2012H. I got it in January from Futureshop and got the warranty. I was just wondering what can be done. If I go into Futureshop and say the wrong thing it could not get me a new one so I need to see what to do. Or if it is cheap to replace it, or if warranty with gateway or futureshop covers it.
Thanks

No. As long as there are no exposed wires anywhere, there will be no health hazards.

Note this could be a simple fix as it could simply be a loose wire to the netbook's monitor. Of course opening the case is often best left to a pro, but if you need portability, it might be worth having it checked out.

My Flex 2-15 recently underwent a background update. Shortly thereafter the screen flickered maybe 6-7 times then the colors have been way off since. When the "blank screen" screensaver activates, everything looks purpleish red and doesn't completely blank the screen. It's almost impossible to tell the difference between black and red cards in Hearts, Euchre whatever.Could it be a driver issue with the update? Or was that just a coincidence and the screen is messed up? Or did a wire get pinched or broken?

Hello Basicly as the thread title says I v got something thats broke and needs replacing but I don t know what that is exactly I don t really want to replace all the parts when only one needs fixing I recently put together my own computer I had initially great success everything up and running smoothly first power up first time me ever building a computer from the ground up aswell My specs are as follows Abit KV - VIA chipset AMD AthlonXP mhz FSB Radeon x Mb RAM Mb total x mhz Sony DVD-ROM drive IDE GB Maxtor HDD IDE Master GB Seagate HDD IDE Slave Akasa CPU heatsink fan up to My OS is WinXP SP with all the latest updates patches and drivers Which is broken? Screen! Blank component for everything all official no beta Blank Screen! Which component is broken? drivers no omega s etc Everything was running smoothly until I decided Blank Screen! Which component is broken? to upgrade the BIOS I downloaded the program from the Abit website that lets you flash in windows stop laughing at the back I can t hear you instead of through DOS Everything worked and I restarted and as instructed in the readme went into the BIOS to check all my settings FSB settings master slave settings etc hadn t been reset which they hadnt Here s where my problem begins Out of complete curiosity I decided to change quot CPU command decode quot Blank Screen! Which component is broken? which is default at quot normal quot setting to quot fast quot I have read that it basicly means higher performance - lower stability so what can be the harm I can always change it back to normal I ll give it a try Saved and restarted Now I get no screen light on monitor is amber which i m fairly sure means no signal the keyboard won t work the capslock numlock scroll-lock lights won t show in either USB or PS mode and obviousally at the POST stage of starting the computer the mouse is no use to me It seems like all I O devices on my computer no longer work If you managed to read all that then back to my question how do I find out which bit is broke I have tried switching the jumpers to short the CMOS remove the battery but it doesn t affect the outcome I still get a blank screen Is the CMOS the problem I could order a new BIOS chip for next to nothing but it could also be a problem with the graphics card or the processor or You see my problem If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful This is my first post on this forum so go easy Thankyou in advance nbsp

Hi everyone one, I am looking for advice/help. I bought this laptop (m6-n010dx) less than 2 years ago. I am so careful with my belongings, and this computer hasbeen babied. The left hinge blew out and now there is a big crack in the glass all around the hinge! I had to disable my touch screen because it is so messed up.  I asked my local repair guy and he said it is a very common issue, but the charge would be horrifying to repair. I am so disgruntled. I love HP, and have always bought their products. I am a bit of a brand snob!  Is there anything I can do?  Thank you all in advance.

A:Hp Envy Broken Hinge + Screen

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

Helloes I had an accident with the laptop yesterday During an installation of the game Dreamfall something went bad and after a restart I end up in the Windows startup repair screen I tried launching windows in safe mode as well as quot last known cofiguration quot but it keeps restarting and ends up in repair screen again A big problem is the screen) Win (Broken Win Transfer 7 files to 7 laptop screen is broken so I have used an external VGA monitor However there wont be any display on the monitor until I have entered windows I cannot use the screen while in the start up screen I can see about of the left part on the laptop screen but it is still hard to navigate without the external screen So firstly is there any way to switch to the VGA screen through BIOS or during startup somehow I use the FN F key to switch between screen modes in Windows Tried to change the FN key setting in BIOS but not sure if I managed to enable or disable it Tried pressing the FN Transfer files Win 7 to Win 7 (Broken screen) F while in BIOS but no effect Laptop is a HP G about years old In case this Transfer files Win 7 to Win 7 (Broken screen) is not working out I might need to transfer files But since I cannot use the regular tools like Windows easytransfer as the laptop is stuck in bootscreen I need something else Freeware prefered if possible since it will only mean one transfer Maybe if I can access an USB and the HDD on the laptop somehow through a bootCD or during boot But it would help if I can switch to the VGA screen during this so I can navigate easy Anyone know how to solve this I am out of ideas

A:Transfer files Win 7 to Win 7 (Broken screen)

You can replace the screen yourself, it's a bit meticulous and time consuming but it can be done by the avg. user. Or you could have it done at a local PC repair shop, estimated cost is around $150 parts/labor. I would repair it by either means.

IMO Windows is huge pain when dealing with more than screens 7) Laptop: (Windows Broken screen At work I have screens and occasionally when I take out my laptop from docking station it messes up the settings Takes - minutes get it back to my original But that is not my question At home I have a cracked laptop screen that no longer works I have connect this Laptop: Broken screen (Windows 7) laptop to my tv and am trying to use it as a htpc My issue is I have not been able to find settings that disable the laptop screen and for windows to ONLY use my tv as primary screen The reason I need to disable the laptop screen is that when I have my laptop open I need this to use the keyboard mouse of the laptop the tv screen is OFF windows is thinking I'm using the laptop screen that is dead Essentially I'm in a situation in which if I want to use laptop keyboard the default setting is the laptop screen Right now I have to get the laptop lid closed but barely open it for me to use the touchpad keyboard What I'm looking for -Registry setting or permanently way of disabling the laptop screen -Permanent setting that always defaults the tv monitor instead of the laptop screen -I'm only going to use XBMC windows to boot directly and would prefer not to have setup the settings every time I turn it on -If above is not possible anyway of setting Windows to think the lid is always closed Thanks John

A:Laptop: Broken screen (Windows 7)

There is a switch in the laptops bevel, short it to have always closed , check power options to see if that helps

Thanks.
