No sound caused by a Virus/Program?

Q: No sound caused by a Virus/Program?

Recently sound has not been coming through my speakers, so I tried to plug in headphones and headset but no further luck. I then went into control panel then sound and check the settings on my playback and nothing was touched or muted etc. I then went to the Speakers and Headphones in sound right clicked and pressed test and it said "The device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing through this device." but no other applications that I could find that would be using it. My prediction is that having no internet protection for a while and downloading off the internet has caused a virus to cause my audio to become mute, if this is so how would I be able to find this application causing it. AVG isnt picking it up.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Broni, from the Virus and Malware Removal forum doesn't think it is malware related.

We have rules on this forum that we all adhere to

Cracked (Illegal) Software
This is the main reason your computer is infected. Visiting cracksites/warezsites - and other questionable/illegal sites is always a risk.

Even a single click on the site can drop multiple forms of very serious malware, many of which disable your onboard protection, and System Restore.

If you install the cracked software, you are running executable files from these dubious, unknown sources. You are in effect giving these sources access to information on your hard disk, and potential control over the operation of your computer.

Additionally, cracked programs are illegal. Before posting for help, uninstall any such applications.

Referring to the Forum Rules which you should have read at the time of Registering at this forum, TSF does not support illegal activity. As such, be advised that any request for assistance in removing malware may go unanswered, or may be discontinued, if the cracked (illegal) software is still present on the machine

You now have a cracked version of Kaspersky on your machine.

It is because of this penchant for illegal software that your machine gets infected.

Buy the software you need, or use freeware.

We shall not be disinfecting your machines again. Best of luck to you.

This thread concerns an add-on from AVG antivirus (please read details above) that AVG techs only partially installed, that they tried to immediately uninstall, and now acts like a browser hijacker.

I would appreciate, first, if you can advise me if you can even help me with something like this, since it is not really the typical meaning of a browser hijacker or malware, but is caused from the AVG Free antivirus program itself? If you can help me, I'll run the scans.

NOTE: I require extra time to do steps so I request someone who will understand I have physical limitations that may delay how fast I can perform recommended steps.

Thank you for reading all the information provided above.

This problem has me completely baffled.

Skype, AVG Professional and Malwarebytes all fail to load with the message "A problem has caused the program .to stop working correctly". In the case of AVG and MB they are running in the background but the user interface causes this error. With Skype, it hangs when starting up.

I am running Windows 7 on a Lenovo Ideapad.

I have read suggestions that it may be a trojan or virus, or faulty Flash (Just uninstalled and reinstalled Flash 11.7.700.224)

Any help would be appreciated as I am at a complete loss to figure out what I am dealing with. Not being able to get into AVG or MB means I cannot check for nasties!

Hi, I am not very technical but a couple of days ago i had a virus so downloaded Norton Power Eraser and that fixed the problem but now i am having problems with my programs, for example my MYOB is working fine but if i try to save a file to disk or email a file i get the message "the program has stopped working and will be shut down" I have changed the compatibility setting in properties but it hasn't helped.

If someone can give me some advice it would be great as i have a customer waiting for an invoice to be emailed to them.

Ok so I got a computer here power surge happend at their house The computer POSTs but never gets to windows It starts showing the Windws Logo then restarts even going into safe mode loads the right files then just restarts Now on to my main problem where this error shows Since it is not booting I wanted to test the hardware first to eliminate going any further on windows problems I put in my Hiren s BootCD and go to load a test hard drive RAM and it a overflow program divide caused error Your gives me the error quot your program caused a divide overflow error I looked up reasons this could happen and tried what I could but with no avail Tried in the bios setting the chipset to a clockspeed of MHz rather then set to Your program caused a divide overflow error Auto http support microsoft com kb en-us The RAM runs at MHz Also tried switching out the ram switching Your program caused a divide overflow error out the processor as that could be an issue The disc works fine on other computers but not this one So something either hard ware or some setting is stopping this from being able to run Another suggestion was to turn off firewalls but theres no firewall check on bootup or anything I m out of ideas any suggestions appreciated EDIT Ok so so far I ve found out that while both hard drives are connected I Your program caused a divide overflow error get this error connected seperatly there is no error and I can run some tests I haven t left any test fully through as of yet but I will be I ve switched the jumper so that it is set to Master Slave and tried Cable Select neither works I m thinking either the harddrives are having conflicts not working together or theres a problem with the motherboard trying to use both The thing is I don t know why it happends when I m trying to test the RAM off a CD It shouldn t be using the hard drive but I guess components still sometimes cause errors to happen nbsp

A:Your program caused a divide overflow error

You can try restore your BIOS settings to factory setting, optimal setting, fail safe setting or the like. The power surge may have caused your mainboard's BIOS setting information damaged. You can't see anything wrong from the surface.

What is QMP and why are you using it? I sounds like the kind of dodgy player that sneaks viruses onto the PC. I would only use WMP, QT, or for codecs they won't play use VLC open-source. These are the most highly regarded players.

When you say you've reinstalled repeatedly, how close did you come to a perfect install which is the same as for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 Did you boot the installer to delete all partitions during install, the most basic step to getting a clean reinstall? If you're reinstall didn't measure up to the one in the link I'd redo it and stick with the tools and methods which work written there which work best for Win7,.

My grandma asked me to install PrintMaster on her computer. I set it up to install and went to cook some food and watch TV. I checked back an hour later and the computer was off. I asked her later and she said that if she leaves her computer alone for long it turns off on it's own. I checked all the power settings and it is set to never turn off so I'm not sure what is causing it. The problem hasn't really bothered her much... but what is bothering her is the fact that she can't use PrintMaster. I tried to use it and I can neither install it or uninstall it. It says the uninstaller is not available and then won't install when I try that either. Suggestions?

For example: I open Adobe from a file whn I want to save it, I click on file and pop up tells me this program has failed.

This happens to Winrar, Adobe PDF reader, Paint and many other apps. Anyone is aware of the solution, or what causes this issue?

Hi and welcome
You need to go into event viewer. type eventvwr in search. go to the windows log>application tab. You need to look for critical errors (the have red in the left hand column) that say app hang, app crash, etc.

When you find them use the snipping tool (type snipping in search) to make a screenshot of it
to upload it you use the attachment icon (shaped like a paperclip) on the reply form.

This problem exists with only a handful of programs, the main one being Serif applications and in my case Serif Webplus X4 which is a cerified Windows 7 compatible program. For example; On successful installation I try to launch the program and the following box appears saying: Serif WebPlus X4 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program.

My system was upgraded from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate.

System spec is as follows:

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz 2.99GHz
Installed memort (RAM): 4.00GB (3.50 GB usable)

Hope someone can help.

what does it say in event viewer? Type eventvwr in search. go to the windows log>application tab. Look for critical errors (they have red in the left column) . Look for errors that have app hang, or app crash, etc in them.

When you find them let us know the event ID and source codes.

Is the program Windows 8 compatible and is it the application or your browser giving you this message? Usually it is the browser that issues this message.

Hello and Welcome to TSF

The Firefox crashes article has some information and things to try.

Run the System File Checker
Click Start/ All Programs/ Accessories
Right click on the Command Prompt option, on the drop down menu which appears, click on the Run as Administrator option
If you haven?t disabled User Account Control (and you shouldn?t!) you will be asked for authorisation. Click the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password.

Start the System File Checker

In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow, press Enter
You?ll see ?the system scan will begin?.

The scan may take some time and windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files. You will be asked to insert your Vista DVD if it?s needed.

Close the Command Prompt Window when the job is finished.

One caveat: you need a Windows CD or DVD to enable SFC to make repairs.

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well.

I wanted to know if anyone has ran into this issue.

"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

This error pops up every time I try to open up Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, or Power Point.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and the error still continues. I have ran Windows Updates to see if that will help, but to no a vale.

When I run the program in safe mode, the program works fine and when I check out the Add-Ins in options, their's nothing checked as far as third party add-ins.

Any idea of what it could be and how I can fix this?

stop working correctly.

I just installed Manga Studio 5 to my PC and have not once been able to to get it to open/work. Each time this message pops up. I have the program installed on my macbook pro and there I had no problems so I don't think the problem lies with the software CD. The software should be compatible with Windows systems as old as XP so I don't think it's a compatibility issue either. I know there's a trick with turning the DEP on except for exceptions but I can't add a 64-bit program to that. What can I do?

If this is the wrong board to put a question like this, please redirect me.

A:Manga Studio has stopped working. A problem caused the program to...

I think that me and another person may also have the same error. I'm running off a MacBook Pro Bootcamp, but she's on some model of Windows-based computer, and we're both running Windows 7 x64, so it's probably not machine-specific. Again it does run on her Mac OS X system with no apparent problems.

This is my crash log, if someone knows what it means:

I experienced a BAD_POOL_HEADER BSOD on June 11 and yesterday when I was trying to re-install my audio card drivers (trying to fix what happened on June 11). On June 11, the BSOD happened overnight while my computer was idle. That is when my sound started to no longer work.

I tried re-installing my audio card driver, but no luck. I ran sfc /scannow and got a bunch of errors (some pertaining to my windows updates which I always have a hard time with, even when installing manually, but that is another story). The CBS.log is attached along with the DM log collector info.

I have an HTO Claro audio card. Tried installing the driver posted on their webpage, but since that never worked in the past, I tried he c-media driver that's always worked for me. Unfortunately, it did not work this time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Basically, i wasn't getting any sound off web pages. so i fixed it by downloading a codec pack and then reinstalling directx. When i later went to start some editing in adobe, my capture wouldnt work. this was apparently due to the codec pack. so i done a system restore to fix adobe, and then i lost sound on webpages again. SO i fixed that again, and last night it looked like adobe was working fine aswell. i opened it this morning to find that it is capturing fine...but no audio on it what so ever...does anyone have any ideas tht can get me out of this loop!!!

I got a big issue with this BSOD. It happens from time to time when there's any sound running (youtube video, game, teamspeak...). I get a approx. 1-minute freeze, then OS crashes with a BSOD. It happens sometimes when plugging my Asus Xonar U3 external sound card I'm using at daily basis as well. I have updated drivers for all my hardware, including said Xonar U3, but no effect with that. Sometimes sound cuts off for a few seconds and then comes back in at random as well. This issue did not occur neither on W7 or W8.1, started happening in W10. Neccessary .zip file is attached to this post. Thank you for your help in advance.

A:DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD (may be caused by external sound card)

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

Uninstall Daemon ToolsDownload the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
Double click the executable to open itClick on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

   Warning
Programs that claim to update your drivers install either the wrong or corrupted drivers.
If you have installed any driver with Driver Booster 2, please remove them as it may cause trouble.

Recommended to remove Registry Recycler, such programs are poorly coded and thus cause more harm then good!

If any crack/bypass is on your system, you are required to remove them.
Counterfeit installation contain heavily modified code what causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason it is unreliable to analyse dumps and most analysts won't try it.
This does NOT mean it is causing the problems.

A few days ago I went to the control panel and enabled the built-in Guest account for the first time I quickly logged out logged in to switch over to the guest account then I switched back to my main account This apparently caused my mouse to behave differently -- I immediately felt like the sensitivity had been cranked up although sound mouse global to caused a & creating account? Guest by changes I suspect it is entirely the acceleration that is acting differently global changes to mouse & sound caused by creating a Guest account? I went to the control panel mouse settings and checked the sensitivity level and enhanced precision setting These were still identical to the mouse settings I had always used About a day later I also noticed that my sound was different When I went to continue editing a video that I had been working on for weeks and thus was intimately familiar with I immediately thought that the bass in the music track was louder I also noticed the same phenomena with a website I frequently visit to generate white noise To the best of my knowledge I couldn't find a place in the control panel or in my sound card software that lets you adjust the system-wide equalizer or anything like that Is there an explanation behind this or am I just crazy to think enabling the guest account caused global changes

HP Pavilion g7, Windows 7 Home Premium, laptop with built-in speakers.

Okay so i accidentally uninstalled SRS Premium Sound and now my sound icon on the bottom right shows a red X and doesn't play sound. It could also be related to restoring my laptop, but sound still worked before i uninstalled SRS sound.

When i hover over the sound icon it reads "No speaker or headphones are plugged in." Plugging in headphones or an external speaker to the headphone jack doesn't work.

troubleshoot doesn't detect a problem. Playback devices only shows AMD HDMI Output, but no speaker option (even when i right click and both are checked). Reinstalling Realtek isn't working.

Device manager does recognize i have ATI HD Audio Device.

I'm willing to restore my computer if that's what it takes, but i don't have the CD that came with it.

I'm looking for sound effect program.I had program 10 years or so , I think it was sound blaster live ( not sure) had some thing similar .Want I wont is program that will add sound effect to sound coming through my computer speakers or headphone. The different sound effects that make your voice sound deep ,less muffled voice, tunnel ,echo ,slow talking ,sound like you talking in small room ,car or out side.

I wont it for both music/sound/audio streaming from the internet and music/sound from the computer , I have on the computer. And be able to go in setting and turn it or off or add or remove effects.

I'm not sure but I think it was sound blaster live I had ,that had some thing similar to add effect to sound coming through the computer speaker or headphone.

Note I have windows 7 .So some thing that works with windows 7.

A:I'm looking for sound effect program , sound coming through the computer speaker

Creative (ie: Sound Blaster) has had that type of setting in their software for years. The Creative/Sound Blaster software is for their chipsets only. There could be a similar audio tool that works with any audio source, but I'm not familiar with any.

When I hovered my mouse over it, it said, "This opens the My Documents folder, where you can store . . ." I'm not sure if this is some random renaming mistake, or something caused by a virus. I've scanned it using AVG and nothing came up.

In the case it is malicious, I haven't opened the folder, nor have I renamed it "My Documents".

Any ideas?‏

Hi and welcome to BC Let's take a quick look with Malwarebytes to see if you picked up something (Looks like it)Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

I’m having a bit of a problem. I ran the PCpitstops Optimize 2.0 last night, and
upon rebooting, the desktop displayed the “white background” and had the
restore active desktop command. I’ve tried both ways, pressing the
restore command and doing nothing (after many, many reboots) and the
screen goes to the “bluescreen” and starts a physical memory dump, or
does the dump and tells me to report it to my system administrator.

I have tried booting to the XP PRO installation CD, but for the most
part I cannot get to the bootup. I cannot go into safemode boot or
safemode with dos to run a bootfix etc.

I am pretty much “hosed”!! Again, this all started after I ran the
Optimize 2.0 scan.

Can you PLEASE help !!

After my computer is idle for a while, it goes into what looks like Power Saver mode, but it won't come out of it when I move my mouse or keyboard. I've turned off Power Saver completely and turned off screensavers, so it shouldn't do anything funny when it's idle. Everytime my computer does this, I have to reboot. And it's not the monitor either, I've tried it with 2 different ones. And like I said, I'm not sure if this is a security problem or not, so if you need to move this topic, that's ok. Spybot hasn't picked up anything, and neither has Ad Aware or CWS, and nothing looks funny on my HJT log, so I really don't know what to think of this. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps!

im sry im fairly new the forum, but lets get started lol. i recently got a virus that causes my computer to log me out of windows immediately as i click on my username to log in. ie, the splash screen loads and i can click on a username and if need be enter the password but as soon as i hit enter, i get logged out really fast, like my desktop doesnt even load. I tried to boot in safe mode but to no avail. So, i got my Windows XP sp3 cd and did repair, however it didnt seem to work. i believe virus changes the registry values to a loop. How can i change the values in the registry if my computer doesnt boot?
EDIT: I guess no one can help lol.

A:Virus Caused this?

First - patience. We are all volunteers here and the load is pretty large. Helpers usually deal with threads they are currently working before starting on a new one. Next - Remove the reference in your signature or I will have it removed for you. You will find that BleepingComputer is a friendly forum and reminders like that aren't necessary. Since you have significant booting problems, even after a repair install, I recommend moving to the HJT forum. Since you cannot post any logs, you need to specify that at the beginning of your new topic. Please follow this guide from step (6). Post a HJT log to the HJT forum and a Team member will be along to help you as soon as possible. You may wish to post a link back to this topic to see what was discussed thus far. If you need any help with the guide, please let me know.

It could be a malware problem. Have you scanned for virus/trojans etc?

Try this fix
There is an association fix for drives
Scroll down to

Select the ?Drive association fix for XP?

If that does not help or if the problem returns, post back for instructions on how to get help with removing malware.

I tried to fix the problem and used the method below :

Click Start, type regedit.exe and press ENTER
Navigate to the following location:

In the right-pane, double-click (default) and set its data as follows:

First I thought that it is caused by an error , but now there is 6 computers in my section that have this problem and I think it is a virus in my computer.

:hello:Hello, I have been having quite a lot of BSOD(maybe 1-2/hour) and I am getting a notification about "modification of system code or a critical data structure was detected". I have not changed any hardware and I am suspecting that the cause would be either a malware or a virus. I have ran Malwarebytes Anti- Malware quite a few times already and the there has been no more malware that has been detected for quite a while. For the Anti-virus I am using Microsoft Security Essentials and the results are the same as Malwarebytes. Dunno really know what the cause is

Hello,

I have been plagued by an increasingly slow computer for the past year or more. I'm running XP-SP3 on a pentium 4CPU 2.40 GHz with 35% open space remaining on a 120 GB HD, 1.5 GB RAM. AVG updated and scanned every day. Have run MBAM, Spybot, SAS repeatedly in both normal and safe mode. Followed all instructions at the [post="http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic44694.html"]Slow Computer[/post] forum. Tried absolutely everything I or anyone else seems to be able to think of.

Can someone help me figure out if this is a virus before I nuke it all and start over?

Thanks,

A:Virus-Caused Reboot Loop?

When you start it normally, exactly when does it reboot? What is on the screen when it does? (original hard drive)

You can use this method to recover your files, put the drive back in the PC and boot from an Ubuntu CD. Files on the desktop will be in a folder named "desktop" in your user name folder in Documents and settings folder.

I am running Windows XP

My VirusScan Mcfee shows the following:

Name: hosts
In Folder: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
Detected As: Qhosts.apd
Detection: Trojan
Status: Moved (Clean failed because the file isn't cleanable)
Application: mmsvc32.exe

I have tried to do the following in safe mode:
1. Removed from registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:
SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
"Microsoft Network Services Controller"="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\mmsvc32.exe"
2. Removed manually mmsvc32.exe the file from C:\WINDOWS\System32

Still after I rebooted again I got the same message from Virus Scan and the found that the file mmsvc32.exe has been placed in the same directory and an entry in registry to execute mmsvc32.exe again.

Anyone, any idea on how to remove the virus?

Regards,
Eye Gee

A:How To Remove Virus Caused By Mmsvc32.exe?

McAfee on Qhosts.apd This is a detection for a modified HOSTS file. This file is normally used by Windows to resolve the IP address for a URL. For performance reasons, Windows first looks in the HOSTS file (which normally exists in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC), and if no appropriate entry is found, it will try to use DNS and WINS to resolve the IP address. Many worms and their variants, such as W32/Polybot.gen!irc and W32/Gaobot.worm are overwriting the HOSTS file with a modified version. The HOSTS file contains a list of URLs and redirects them to 127.0.0.1, which is the LocalHost.By redirecting all network traffic for these URLs to Localhost, the user is unable to browse to the webpage of his or her AV or security software vendor. Additionally many AV products are unable to update themselves.Sophos on one of the W32/Agobot variantsIs your system patched with all the latest MS Windows updates? If not you need to update as soon as you have removed the infection. If you think you are infected submit a hijackthis log to the HJT Forum. How to submit a hijackthis logDownload HijackthisTry running the following from safe mode (Getting to safe-mode) Sysclean you'll also need the virus template file from here lpt***.zip remember to extract the contents of the zip file into the same folder as Sysclean.comorDrWeb CureITorKASFX which is powered by the Kaspersky AV engine, you will need internet access to update it. If you haven't got net access in safe mode, update it before you use it.If your good with the command line also try Sophos Command Line scanner this command will scan all of your hdd's SAV32CLI.EXE -F -di -remove -dn -mbr -all -zip -p=avscanlog.txt and give you a log file to review afterwards. Also try installing and running A2 Free and EwidoI'd also run Spybot(Spybot Tutorial) and AdawareIf your using Win2K/XP run adaware/spybot from "safe mode with command prompt" If your using Win9x just run it from safe mode the command line options aren't needed..At the C:\ prompt type the following:-cd\C:\progra~1\spybot~1\spybotsd.exe /autocheck /autofixcd\C:\progra~1\lavasoft\ad-awa~1\ad-aware.exe

Hello All I'm new to the forum and this is my first Virus by caused driver BSODs, or etc Possible post Looking at the help this site gives is immeasurable i hope someone can help me with BSODs im getting quite frequently when im attempting to fix it Please find BSODs, Possible caused by driver or Virus etc my bug report txt zipped file created with Nirsofts Blue Screen View It has been pointing to a specific driver ntkrnlpa exe that has been the cause of most of the crashes I have ran numerous anti virus anti rootkit tests including GMER Combofix Malware Bytes Comodo Cleaning Essentials and recently EMSIsoft which did find Win Bunndle virus which has now been deleted GMER does advice rootkit BSODs, Possible caused by driver or Virus etc like behaviour but when i test the MBR for any changes using mbrchecker is advises PhysicalDrive Windows MBR code detected -- which means that the MBR has not been modified The driver is a kernal system file so i attempting to do a sysprep but this also crashed somehow Also it has been frequently crashing when scanning with Rogue Killer and it is usually crashing when searching for rootkits Would anyone be interested to help locate this cause perhaps checking out my GMER Combofix logs to help determine the fault would be much appreciated Ive been on this a whole week and have another issue with Comodo Internet Security not installing as i can not seem to get rid of all its Registry entries using Regedt my permissions to delete them are denied even though i am logged in as Admin It suddenly stopped working and cut my internet connection which i suspected was caused by virus perhaps Thanks in advance

A:BSODs, Possible caused by driver or Virus etc

ntoskrnl.exe (also seen as ntkrnlpa.exe, ntkrnlmp.exe, or ntkrpamp.exe) is the kernel (core) of the Windows operating system.  It is protected by security features and the Windows System File Checker.  As such, if this file was to blame, you'd be experiencing many more problems other than the occasional BSOD.
In most cases this file is blamed because another file (typically a 3rd party driver) has corrupted the memory space that ntoskrnl.exe considers as it's own.  When this happens, ntoskrnl.exe typically finds unknown data (from the 3rd party driver) in it's memory space.  At this point the OS panics and throws a BSOD to prevent damage to the system.
More info here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ntoskrnl.exe
Now, please note that your Driver Verifier enabled memory dumps tend to blame networking components (mostly tcpipreg.sys)
While this is a Windows driver, we presume that Windows drivers aren't likely to be at fault because of the error correcting mechanisms built into Windows.
That leaves us with 3rd party drivers as the most likely cause (followed by hardware, then by Windows drivers)

Interestingly, you're having issues with Comodo.
We also know, from past experience, that we have frequent problems with Comodo in some Windows systems
The easiest way to uninstall Comodo would be to reinstall the program, then uninstall it.  The hope being that the reinstallation will fix the problems that prevented the uninstallation in the first place.

Beyond that, here's how to uninstall the firewall:  https://support.comodo.com/index.php?/Default/Knowledgebase/Article/View/8/0/firewall-uninstall-issues

So, I would suggest first having your system looked at in the Am I Infected forum:

If infected, I'd suggest posting over in the Am I Infected forum:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/
Please read the pinned topics at the top of the forum for instructions on how to post there.

Then, when they give you a clean bill of health, if the problems still exist let's go at this in 2 ways:
- a manual removal of the Comodo stuff
- Beyond that, let's try looking at these reports:

Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.
By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.

A:virus caused icon on toolbar

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I had a friend run AVG virus scan, and now when I boot his computer, an error message pops up saying Windows could not find logon.exe. Also, I can not access the internet using IE. I type in google.com and another error message pops up saying the serach engine could not be found. AVG detected a trojan horse file in the C:windows/system32/svchost.exe file. Is this a legit file or is this a real Trojan? IF its a real file, how do I get it back? Can I use any old Win XP disk and do a sfc/scannow?

Thanks

HelloApologize for the delay in response we get overwhelmed at times but we are trying our best to keep up.If you have since resolved the original problem you were having would appreciate you letting us know If not please perform the following below so I can have a look at the current condition of your machine. Thanks and again sorry for the delay. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save to your Desktop.alternate download siteDSS will do the following:Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review.Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes.You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using.Close all applications and windows.Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts. If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not
malicious. When the scan is complete, two text files will open in Notepad:main.txt <- this one will be maximizedextra.txt <- this one will be minimizedIf not, they both can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder. Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.-- When running DSS, some firewalls may warn that it is trying to access the Internet especially if your asked to download the most current version of HijackThis. Please ensure that you allow it permission to do so.-- If you get a warning from your anti-virus while DSS is scanning, please allow DSS to continue as the scan is not harmful.NextPlease do a scan with Kaspersky Online ScannerNote: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs. The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files. After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My ComputerThis will start the program and scan your system. The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.Once the scan is complete, click on View scan reportNow, click on the Save Report as button.Save the file to your desktop.Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Something bad happened Something really really bad FYI I have Windows XP I was on the internet last night and suddenly my computer started getting really slow One of those black box screen windows things popped up but didn't say anything so I closed it out Then my computer got so slow I could virus? Blue caused PLEASE Screen by HELP hardly use it So I Blue Screen caused by virus? PLEASE HELP turned it off Blue Screen caused by virus? PLEASE HELP and then turned it back on When I turned it back on I got to my desktop and it would be there for a few moments loading the background programs and such and then I get hit with a Blue Screen of Death It's very simple compared to the better known blue screens All it says is STOP d UNKNOWN HARD ERROR Unknown Hard Error I Blue Screen caused by virus? PLEASE HELP turned my computer off again and started it up This time before loading Windows my computer started doing some drive check thing It took a few minutes and in the end it said it removed one thing and added back in several quot orphaned quot files Yet the same blue screen came up after I got to my desk top So this time I tried starting my computer in the quot Last Known Good quot state option that appears from pressing F This did not help and the same blue screen shows up So then I tried getting into Safe Mode This works fine and I am able to access Safe Mode Inside Safe Mode I tried to use one of my System Restore points but when trying to start up System Restore it says I have it turned off and need to switch to normal mode to turn it on I don't remember ever turning it off but I never cheked before so I guess that won't work Then I went into My Computer and assuming this was done by some virus started deleting files I didn't recnognize that were created that night I deleted some things right on my hard drive then found some things in System folders and other folders The only thing I didn't delete were some files that were created long ago when I got my computer but quot modified quot last night I'm sure those are a problem but they sound like they are probably important so I don't want to delete something and make the situation worse The two files are in the Tasks folder and one is called the name of my profile and the other is called I think it was tasks as well not on the computer at the moment since internet does not work with Safe Mode and it was only kb and it has a red quot x quot on the icon There was another one with a red quot x quot as well These seem to be older files that were modified broken last night Okay so I tried entering normally again after deleting things besides those and as you can probably guess I got the blue screen again So here I am without my computer Just to say it I definately do not have the disk for the OS Even if I did I don't think I have the heart to completely restart everything on my computer and send it back to Day I don't mean to sound overdramatic but that computer is my life I've had for years and there is SO much that I don't want to lose Pictures videos games programs settings on the computer I can't lose all my data Yet there seems to be no help So I turn to others I've looked aroung google and it seems nobody else was able to get some magical fix but their circumstances were always slightly different I think the fact that I am able to get into windows and my computer starts fine and brings me to my desktop THEN blue screens while loading stuff must mean something So please any help is greatly appreciated I'm posting this here and in hard drive section since it is a problem with the hard drive but could also be caused by a virus or something Thanks for any help

A:network problem maybe caused by virus?

Hi,
Just to let you all know that this problem has fixed itself. Not sure what has happened but it wouldn't work for over a week and now all of a sudden today it starts working again.
All I can think of is that either Windows or Norton sent an update and now they have sent a fix.

As long as i'm back to normal I don't mind what has happened, I now have very happy kids who can print from their laptops again

A:Win 32 Error Caused By Virus Or Other Malware

Well, hi everybody. I`m new here, found this page using google to find help. Looks like some nasty virus is about to corrupt every anti virus program I used and tried to use since a few days. Tried to fix the problem myself. It started with a downloaded program that caused a blast of pop ups when I opened it. Got rid of that using your Vundo fix program that erased the .dll files that were (seemingly) causing the problem. After that I got an error warning everytime I started windows (Don`t remember the exact words it just said that some .dll files were missing and the computer couldn`t find the module. I fixed that too by using the registry cleaner restore point (windows backup ) I made two weeks ago. The internet problem I had (pop ups, slowdown and warnings about a virus that might cause the computer to crash ) seems to be solved. No pop ups and no sites I didn`t specifically look for anymore but now I get the warning: ....is not an acceptable application (Don`t know if the translation right so I `ll also post the original:.....exe ist keine zuverl?ssige win.32 Anwendung ) This warning now occurs everytime I try to run an antivirus program .So far: Spyware Doctor, Spybot search and destroy, AVG anti spyware and worst of all it shut down my Zone Alarm Anti virus (Firewall and antivirus ) Other programs are not involved. I can start programs like real player etc without problems. Now my Question: Is there a way to fix this problem without installing the whole windows xp anew? I read some of your pages according to win 32 problems but didn`t know exactly what to do cause the answers seemed to be very personal for they answered problems using the posted Hijack this file. I`d like to do the same but Hijack this doesn`t run either.... Already thanks for answering.... Ok If you can still use intnetrnet explorer and that and thats wokring ok try this go to http://www.trendmicro.com and pick uk if your in uk (sometimes it will automacially detect where you are) Scroll to the bottom of this webpage and click on Housecall (you need to make sure you have java intalled and enabled on your machine to check this you can go to www.java.com and it will deteact if y ou machine has the latest version or if you need to download it if you do make sure that the java is enable to check this go to tool >> Internet Option >> Advanced >> Manage Add Ons - and enable java the publisher is sun microstyems make sure these are enabled once you have done this you can then start using trendmicro.com and use the housecall service make sure you let it download the apps and also make sure you chose to run the java version once the java version has been started once the application has been started click Next and wait 2-3 mins once its started and your on step to (this will take a while so go make cup tea coffee or even have your dinner once it has anyalsed your drive it will give you a est time of how long it will take once this has been done you eventually get to step three once your on step three you will be able to get trendmicro to remove all it can however their may be some mannual onceds you need to do post the rtesults of any manual oncs you need to remove and well go from their hope this helpmany thanks#peter french

A:BSOD or "a problem caused the program to close" in games win7x64

Hello there,

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

Hello All,

I am experiencing a very debilitating issue with my laptop. The error indicated on the title of this thread appears every time I try to open multiple programs on my machine; the error is present in at least the following applications: Windows explorer, HP SimplePass, HP CSI Shell, HP Support Assistant, HP Installer, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Synaptics TouchPad V7.5... and perhaps more.

I include with this message a zip file with some recent logs (CBS. log, Errors Event Viewer, Last Scan.txt, Malware log.txt, Check Disk Event Viewer log) for your review so that both of us can save some valuable time.

Note: I am not by any means an expert on either computer software or hardware so, I would really appreciate if you help me out to sort this issue having that in mind.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Error message: "A problem caused the program to stop working..."

Hi,

Can you remember when this problem started to happen, if so had you made any changes to the computer such as software installations?

If so, you can try a system restore or use a backup if you have one to roll the os back to a time when all was working well and see if this solves your problem

I can almost guarantee that this is either a damaged or corrupt shell or a conflict with some software, as the fact that you can load the operating system up and get past post shows that it's not hardware related in anyway

Thank you

Dear Experts,
Recently, I often got Error "A problem has caused a program to stop working". This happened when I was on Paint, Google Chrome, and some other applications. Here's what I found in Event Viewer. Please tell me what to do.
Thanks all

A:error 0xc0000374 "A problem has caused the program to stop working"

I googled the error and found the error may be a hardware or memory problem.
Just copy the error and paste in a windows search.
How old is your system and how much ram does it have?

Some of sites recommended doing a restore back to when your computer was not having this problem.
I am not an export in solving your error problems but someone will be along to help out in the meantime look under the hood and make sure everything is clean and seated properly.
Might even try a restore also.
THW
