New CPU, board and memory time

Q: New CPU, board and memory time

I will be upgrading my system in july and was wondering if anyone can recomend a new cpu, motherboard and DDR3 sims. I currently have an E8500, ASUS P5N-32E, GTX275, Corsair TX650 PSU and 4gig of DDR2. I was thinking of going with the an Intel Core i7 930 2.80Ghz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366). Can anyone recomend a good board around 150-180 that will fit this CPU and also some DDR3 sims?

Preferred Solution: New CPU, board and memory time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Asus P6X58D-E is a great motherboard at your price point.

Are you planning on going with 6GB of DDR3 memory to utilise the CPU's triple channel memory controller? What's your budget for the memory?

According to what I havew been able to find on that motherboard it should work. This might be dependant on what you already have on that Motherboard for Ram

I have a Gateway P4, 1.8ghz, 1gig ram, XP Pro sp3. Has been a great computer until now. I have always been good about keeping updates current, registry clean, etc. In a matter of days, the computers response time accross the board all but came to a stand still. I tried a few things with little gain. Decided that it had been quite some time since it had last been reformatted. To my surprise, reformatting made only a small improvement, and I have yet to reload most of my programs. Checked the HD for errors using Windows and a program from Maxtor...both came up with no problems. There has been no hardware changes for quite some time. If it where a "bug", would reformatting not be enough? Could it be a piece of hardware begining to fail...HD, RAM, ...? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

A:Accross the Board Response Time

-Defragmenting
-Using a program such as Ccleaner to clean your registry and temporary files
-Checking for virus, adware, spyware ect.

but reformatting was a bit extreme, but if that didn't work, i dunno what would

Maybe it is a problem with your computer hardware....
More likely to be a memory or Hard drive transfer problem if it is just speed....
-Maybe something isn't plugged in all the way or has faulty wiring.....

Otherwise, reformatting has already taken all i would think to be wrong as very improbable.
-Unless you keep installing a program of some sort that is deciding to take all your system resources.

Out of curiosity I was wondering on average how much memory on board sound uses when playing games at the highest sound setting. I wondered if a sound card with it's own memory would boost performance by freeing up memory?

Hi,

I want to upgrade my PC as some components are getting pretty old, i.e. the mobo, cpu and memory. I want to get a Core 2 duo CPU and motherboard, only I don't want to have to buy the RAM, cpu and mobo all at once.

So my question is can ddr be in a ddr2 core 2 duo mobo?

Thanks

A:DDR memory in a Core 2 Duo Board

You may be able to find a board with two sets of slots - one for each type.

I have been searching and have not found any credible info on whether or not the stock W7 defragger does periodic boot time defrags to defrag those files that can't be accessed while windows is running. If it does do a boot time defrag, does the defragger have to be "turned on" (scheduled defrag time set), or will it still do a boot time if I have scheduling turned off?

A:Does W7 On-Board Defrager Do Boot Time Defrags?

No it doesn't have a option to do boot time defrag although i know of a tool that has the option that will let you do a boot defrag. Try the program Smart Defrag, it works great on my windows 7 laptop and desktop. I hope this helps you out.

A:how will i know if my mother board or memory is defective?

what makes you think the mobo or the ram is defective?
Have you tried a bios re-set yet?

BIOS RESET

A bios re-set can be very important and can be the difference between the pc starting up or not starting up.
You should always check the motherboard manual as there is a standard method of re-setting the bios but some mobo(motherboard) mfgrs differ a bit, for instance some Pc chips mobos are different.
Standard method: Unhook your pc so there is no power going to it. Then take out the coin battery. Near the coin battery you will find 3 pins with one jumper. Move the jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pins 2 and 3. In other words, move the jumper up one pin.
Leave it there for a few minutes, then put everything back the way it was.
You can always tell if the bios re-set has taken place properly, you should have to re-set the time and date. It not done automatically then the fsb settings have to be set up again.
Another way to re-set the bios, not fully, but to at least affect a few changes would be to use the setting that says "default" or "minimum" or "standard" or "basic" settings. You only have to click on that and save and exit. This is not the same as a full and proper bios re-set but sometimes it can help.
There are many individual settings inside your bios that can make your mobo work or stop working, and some settings that do little to nothing.
You should always read your mobo manual first. If you dont have one then use google to find your mobo mfgrs website and then find the proper manual for your mobo, as well as drivers, bios updates, etc. You should download all you can for your mobo and burn it to a cdr. If this is a new build, doublecheck all bios and motherboard settings with the motherboard manual.

Last, sometimes the bios re-set took ok but the power supply needs to be reset as well. This happens as a result of trying to boot a pc when there is some problem, something somewhere, like a wrong setting, that results in the power supply not only not starting up, but needing a reset. You can do this using a power supply tester but if you dont have it then follow this:

RESET POWER SUPPLY

Turn power supply off at the back of the pc and remove the power cord, now press and hold the pc's power on/off button for one minute. This is with the motherboard connected to the power supply. Thats all for a ps re-set.

Hello everyone A few weeks ago I pushed the button to start my PC It started with its usual Memory or Module System Board? routine but then stopped booting up and just started beeping at me After several attempts at forcing it to shut down then starting it again only to have it beep at me I just left it off and used the laptop to do some research about the beeping Seems it had to do with a memory problem which I managed to locate by removing the memory modules one at a time and replacing them in the same location they came from I managed to Memory Module or System Board? isolate one module that when installed caused the machine to beep and boot no further and when removed the machine booted up o k although it was a bit sluggish and acted like it wasn't to sure about what it was supposed to do with itself It just so happened that it was in an end socket and when I removed a Memory Module or System Board? module from the opposite end and placed it in the suspect socket the beeping started again so I put that module back in it's place at the other end and left the other socket empty I'm actually using the PC in question to make this post it seems to run satisfactorily without the one module in place but at times seems to loose its bearings Sorry about running on my question is quot Is the the memory module the problem or is it the socket that the memory module plugs into the problem and what is the solution either way On this particular machine a H P a n Media Center desktop I can install up to -gig modules I'm using the MB modules it came with and have added -gig modules I'd like to fill it with Gigabits of memory but I'm just not sure what to do just yet Any help would be appreciated and as always Thank You for Your Response D J L

A:Memory Module or System Board?

Hello,

Since the beeping starts when using a known good module in the "suspect" slot it

would seem to indicate a problem with the slot.

You can try testing using one working module in all slots to make sure that the issue is the slot.

If the slot is determined to be defective the board would have to be replaced.

This can be an issue with OEM unless the board is replaced with the same board.

I just came from a retail store to check on prices but most of their parts weren't available anymore. Instead of a G. Skill Ripjaws 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1600, the clerk offered me a Crucial Ballistix 2x4 8gb DDR-3 1866 memory. The board I'm gonna buy is an Asrock H77 Pro4/Mvp but looking at their memory support list http://www.asrock.com/mb/memory.asp?Model=H77 Pro4/MVP, it doesn't seem compatible.

The clerk had told me it was compatible and that he had tried it before but I'm not sure if it'd have unwanted effects over some period of time. (I got drawn in by how the memory looks and its LED so I'm including it as a choice). Thanks.

A:Is a 1866 memory compatible with an H77 board?

It will be compatible, worst case scenario is just setting your 1866Mhz RAM to run at 1600Mhz. You're getting quicker RAM for free.

Greetings all. I am currently running an AMD 64 +3200 on an Asus a8v board. I am wondering what type of memory is best. (That is between 3200 & 2700, and ECC over non-ECC.) I can support upto 4 GB of 2700, and only 2 of 3200 ram.

I have heard other people having problems with the A8V in regards to the AGP settings from ATI as well.

Thanks.

I don't use that board, but I use the K8V Deluxe with the same setup. I currently running a gig of Kingston PC3200 (2 x 512) and am thinking about adding another half-gig but currently, it's rock-solid. You may not need that much memory depending on the applications you're using. BTW, the mem I'm using is non-ECC.

What memory checker? If it the physical memory (RAM) in your system it's not OK to ignore this.

Memory is sorta like your checkbook. You won't notice little errors - a penny here or a penny there - but what are you going to do when it's a $1,000.00 error?

My computer locks up after I have captured video in Studio DV. The troubleshooting part of the manual offers a suggestion if your computer "crashes during capture" (I suppose that might be the same thing) to move the graphics board memory resources to a different area. All the F000000-F1FFFFF stuff is pretty confusing to begin with, but when I do try to change those designations I get a "No modifications box" that says "This resource setting cannot be modified" Can somebody offer a step by step and kind of explain what I'm looking at when I see the resource settings? I just don't know how to move which ones. Thanks in advance. Marsh

First try pulling out ram and reinstalling it. If that doesnt work try removing one stick at a time and rebooting. If it boots then the stick you have removed is bad. It may not hurt to clear CMOS also. Refer to your motherboard specs for procedure. Or just remove the battery on the board for about 15-30 seconds to reset. I have also seen a bad battery cause some weird problems but dont know any procedures for testing it except replace with a known good part.

A:Dual Channel memory in single channel board?

Well, I can say I solved my own problem.

After I spent the last 4 hours trying to find the problem. I ran a bunch of mem tests, cleaned the mem slots, etc... It turns out it wasn't a hardware issue at all. I was wiggling my mouse on start up and noted the time it froze... and every time it froze an application was launching in the system tray.

Turns out it was Norton F'ing Anti Virus....

The second it launched the computer froze. So I booted in safe mode and disabled the start up and all other functions of Norton. Rebooted in normal mode, and sure enough, it worked! Without a hitch!

Now here comes the Beach of it. Since I couldn't uninstall Norton because I disabled it (i.e. nothing would run because all the extensions, shells and services for it were dead), I rebooted in safe mode to uninstall, BUT Norton doesn't work in safe mode... WHAT!? The damn program specifically states in a condescending dialog box that you "must reboot in normal mode to access Norton... blah blah blah"

What kind of Virus program doesn't let you access it in safe mode? Isn't that the point, to run a virus scan in safe mode? Piece of crap! But anyways, I digress.

So now I finagled a way to run in normal mode without Norton launching to uninstall it. Uninstalling as we speak, actually.

*SO*

To answer my own question:
Yes, dual channel kits work in single channel boards (Just make sure you uninstall Norton before you put the new RAM in, haha).

p.s. After this... I'm switching to McAfee or some sh*t.... Christ. YOU HEAR ME NORTON!? GO SUCK A FAT HAIRY LOBSTER C*CK!

A:Getting Low Memory Error Over Time

Welcome to TSF.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mswspl] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [0GOv9.exe] C:\winnt\temp\0GOv9.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Arcd] C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\oasa.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Autoupdate Service] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com (HKLM)
O16 - DPF: {E06E2E99-0AA1-11D4-ABA6-0060082AA75C} (GpcContainer Class) - https://thomsonelite.webex.com/clie...bex/ieatgpc.cab
O18 - Filter: text/plain - {E501BE78-47C1-40B5-9285-BCE128D44AEC} - C:\WINNT\system32\opf.dll

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\oasa.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\opf.dll

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and run HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Section and use the tools provided.

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with a 60 gig hard drive and 1 gig of memory. I run AutoCad and do drawings for my cabinet shop and the hard drive is almost full. If I bought a new 320 gig hard drive what's the best way to transfer the data? The only discs I have are the ones Dell sent with the original CPU. I have read in other posts that there is some times a problem reloading the operating system if you don't have the original retail installation disc.I have Carbonite service but I don't know if that will help or not.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I've been building cabinets for 30 years but I'm only 7 years old in computer.

I usually am on my computer a lot listening to music and playing games.  When one day I just turned it on and then went to go get something to eat.  When I came back my computer was running like I was playing a game on high graphics.  I turned on the task manager to see what was going on and there was a lot of com surrogates on.  Now it takes for ever for anything to start up.  Getting on the internet is rough and takes a lot longer then it used to.  I really don't know anything about the inner workings of the computer and I need help.

Hi hopefully this is Solved: not sticks PC at two time memory does same like something easy to crack as it has Solved: PC does not like two memory sticks at same time been driving me mad The basic issue is that my PC will not handle two memory sticks at the same time I have tried various different memory sticks together and I have tried putting various single sticks in both bays seperately The only thing that causes the problem is to have any two sticks in together So the problem would not appear to be a physical problem with either bay or with any memory I have used which all works fine on other machines The specifics of the problem is that whilst the machine will run fine of the time there are two or three very specific things which will cause it to crash every time with a memory related blue screen of death error message giving an address and then the consequent reboot etc For example if I call one specific report in the EPOS software I am running which calculates a total stock value so it is pulling more memory usage than normal at this point onw would think then try and increase the zoom to make the text a big larger you can visibly see the machine slow right down as it is literally reloading the page a few characters per second rather than fairly immediately and then we go blue screen annnnd POP Every other report in the EPOS appn does not cause a problem but I am also running this appn on a couple of other machines without any issue whatsoever and there are no other reported issues with their technical support of this nature or with that particular report So it is not the software I did uninstall and reinstall it though just to make sure And updated all hardware drivers etc etc The other main cause of the intermittant crashes is surfing the internet There are no specific pages or types of pages that cause the occasional crash though However I am aware Mozilla does use a relatively large amount of amount of memory I have also cloned the hard drive of this pc with an identical drive and swapped the drives to eliminate any hard drive errors issues The crashes still occurred So it would seem this machine just does not like having two memory sticks in The BIOS is set to autodetect the memory my preferred choice I want to put in is a paired Crucial set of GB sticks which according to Crucial are compatible with this machine but my guess is the issue must lie with how the BIOS is setting up for the memory perhaps The machine itself is only a Celeron MHz as that is all this machine which is basically a touch screen till really requires to run the EPOS software It is under warranty with J systems however I would have to send it back to them to look at it which I have been told could take a month round trip which would be a massive inconvenience as it is my only touch screen machine And if it is merely a BIOS setting or similar I can sort myself then there is no need to send it back However this is where I could do with some expert advice on what to try next So any suggestions would be most welcome many thanks Jonathan nbsp

Hi. I recently started having an svchost use a huge amount of cpu time. It causes my computer to slow to a crawl and ultimate just stop responding. Can someone please please help me??? I'm running in safe mode right now and it crawled up to 19M before I paused the service using processexplorer.

Any help appreciated. When I post the reports, should I boot windows normal or keep running in safe mode? I'm not sure I can complete much if I boot normal.

My thinkpad T500 has 3 GB memory installed and it has window 7 ultimate operating system,. When I start up the computer, it shows 1GB free memory and 200MB of standby memory. However, even the computer is sitting idle, the free memory decrease with time. The only software I have is MS office and McAfee. After 15 minutes, the free memory reduces to 200mb while the standby memory increases to 1GB. I took my thinkpad to the official dealer to have it check out. They find no problems. I scan for spyware etc and find none. I wonder whether there is anything wrong with my thinkpad.

Thanks

I suspect you are talking about free memory and available memory. win 7 caches memory differently it puts most of the free memory into cache waiting for an app to request it. That speeds up load times and it is correct.

Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to monitor a remote computers memory usage over a period of time and it create a report on the usage.

I have tried Remote Process Explorer - kill, run or change process priority on a local or remote computer which gives me a nice graph for a 5 minute period but it doesn't save that to any form of output, it's just the last 5 minutes history:

I would like to be able monitor that computer over 8 hours and provide some form of report at the end.

Regards,
Jamie

A:Memory Usage Report Over Time

If you have access to the machine remotely you can use performance monitor to log that info for you. the system/system performance template should have the info you need.

To connect to a remote computer with Performance Monitor

Start Performance Monitor.
In the navigation tree, right-click Reliability and Performance , and then click Connect to another computer .
In the Select Computer dialog box, type the name of the computer you want to monitor, or click Browse to select it from a list.
Click OK .

A:Physical memory usage increases over time

Hello mryumyum and welcome to Seven Forums.

As you've indicated, if the PC has been in extended continuous use memory leaks can occur from some programs (usually badly written ones.) That means used memory is not released for reuse. Over time this can accumulate. If, after each reboot, your memory usage drops to the same level, I wouldn't worry. Rebooting more frequently might help if it's the result of a badly written program.

As a general rule, you should not have any available RAM (or at least very little). Available RAM is wasted RAM. You paid for all of it and shouldn't want to see any of it wasted. Windows 7 works hard to keep all your RAM working for you all the time, for example using it for cache if your apps don't need it, then taking it back again if your apps need it later. This is a good feature of Windows 7, not bad. You could run the Resource Monitor to see exactly how your RAM is being allocated.

Resource Monitor

Another possibility would be malware. Make sure your security software (including real-time protection) is present and up to date. Do a full scan of all drives for malware with your installed antimalware suite. You could then follow it up with free Malwarebytes for a second on-demand scan since no antimalware product is 100% effective 100% of the time.

You could also run the free Process Monitor to get a better idea of what's using your RAM. Don't even have to install it. You can run it from the live link at the bottom of the page (run process monitor now.)

Either the memory or the hard drive could be failing. If your system loops at that same screen I would test the hard drive first & then test the memory. If both test fine then I would think that Windows would need to be reinstalled.

Please help me, when I press the Power On at the first time, the Computer show the Windows Logo after that it restart and work normally.

A:Memory Dump when Power On Windows 8 at the first time.

Only 48 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 66 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

All of the memory dumps point to your Intel graphics drivers. Please:
- download a fresh set of the latest, Win8 compatible graphices drivers from the Asus website
- uninstall the current Intel graphics drivers from the system
- install the freshly downloaded graphics drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I'm using XP service pack When booting up it takes a very long time to complete all the boot up processes I do have Mcaffe anti-virus and spybot running resident so I expect a longer boot up time insufficient start memory Long up time and However I'm talking about minutes When I went to task manager I noticed under processes I have processes running Several of these have the same name For example iexplore exe appears to be listed twice using K and K of memory usage as well as explorer exe using K Long start up time and insufficient memory Also I found svchost exe system local network etc listed times Does that mean I'm running instances of this progam I occasionally get an insufficient memory window but it usually goes away after the computer completely boots up while I get a cup of coffee and read the newspaper Might you have any ideas why I'm seeing multiple instances of programs running and should I just end one of these processes I have gone to the web before researching this and a suggestion was to google in the process name to find out what it does - I didn't get much information about what to do there Hoping you an shed some light on this I've been thinking it's time to clean off the hard rive and reload all programs - yikes Thanks

A:Long start up time and insufficient memory

I would agree 58 processes running at startup is way to many.

I suggest you go to Process Quick link. It is wise to read about my suggestion. The quote below is helpful:
Quote:

As many as 20 to 30 processes may be running invisibly, silently in the background on your PC. Some hog system resources, drastically slowing down your computer. Others are a threat to security and privacy. A few may be harmless.

The Windows Task Manager displays most of these processes but you have no information to learn and understand what is what.

Get the latest definitions and exhaustive advice on all the processes running on directly in the Windows Task Manager by downloading the QuickLink InfoBar from ProcessLibrary.com.

It would help if you give us more information about your system as you have not added it in your profile to the left of your post as requested.
Quote:

Might you have any ideas why I'm seeing multiple instances of programs running and should I just end one of these processes?

When you download Process library from the link above you will see that all or almost all the the multiple instances are for different processes so don't end any until you research them through the application.

You may also have many Start up Applications in your Start up Folder. To find out, go to:Start
All Programs
Start up
which certainly will slow boot time so suggest you go to Windows Start up Programs to research for yourself what is running.

The above involves some work I admit, but it is best you do it for yourself, it is a learning curve that we all have to take to understand our systems more fully.

I've been thinking it's time to clean off the hard rive and reload all programs - yikes !!

This should be your last resort unless you really want to start from scratch. Not recommended by me at all.

Just another question - what maintenance programs have you got to keep your computer clean of temporary internet files etc, for instance do you run CCleaner after each surfing experience on the internet as I do?

Let us know how you proceed,

kind regards,

For the past month or so my computer has been using a ton of physical memory. It usually hovers around 60% and slows things down quite a bit.

A:Very high physical memory usage all the time

Looks like Firefox is using a ton of resources.

Try doing some of the things listed in this tutorial and see if you can get it down:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...uch-memory-ram

Also, are you using Spotify/Skype all the time? Figuring out what is up with Firefox and stopping Skype/Spotify if you don't need it would help.

You could also simply get more ram. Its not that expensive and its one of the best things you can do to speed up your PC, especially with your specific problem.

Hello and good day to all of you Now I'll stop wasting your time and get down to business if I may I have recently updated to Windows and I must admit that I have NEVER experienced a BSOD on any computer before and certainly not my own - indeed the OS has been running just fine without any error let alone a BSOD for little over a week now But MEMORY.DMP time is every BSOD - interpret iTunes opened cannot as of four-to-five days ago I started having the BSOD at random intervals - at first I BSOD every time iTunes is opened - cannot interpret MEMORY.DMP dismissed it as a one time malfunction but everynow and then I experienced the dreaded screen again having the error at least once everyday - before long I realized in the five seconds I had to see the BSOD that the very SAME error was occuring And about two days ago I started having a recurring case of the BSOD - everytime I open up my iTunes application the error occurs without fail and my system reboots Once it reboots everything runs and appears fine until I BSOD every time iTunes is opened - cannot interpret MEMORY.DMP dare to open up iTunes and the same thing happens After some research and exploring as I usually do to solve my tech-related problems I discovered that the BSOD every time iTunes is opened - cannot interpret MEMORY.DMP log of what happens during an error is literally dumped into a file named ironically enough MEMORY DMP I have tried various methods to take ownership and give myself rights to explore the file hoping to find a solution or reason for my BSOD within it but it seems my efforts are in vain as I cannot open the file - everytime I try I receive a quot access denied quot message plain and simple really makes me miss Windows XP And so I have come to ask anyone who is willing to lend a hand How do I fix my BSOD or at least discover the cause behind it And does the key to the problem lie within the MEMORY DMP file which I cannot open I wait with great anticipation to an answer and I would like to thank my to-be advisors well in advance - thank you very much for helping me with my impeding dilemma I would attach the MEMORY DMP file in question but sadly despite my efforts I can only MOVE the bothersome thing - I cannot open or attach said file for appraisal

A:BSOD every time iTunes is opened - cannot interpret MEMORY.DMP

ohhh, my apologies So, at any rate, I have the Dump info attached as instructed... although I could not find any HTML file... huh

And here's some basic OS info :

-Windows 7 is x86 (32bit).
-Windows 7 is NOT the original operating system - the original OS was WindowsXP Professional.
-Windows 7 is a full-retail version (Windows 7 Enterprise).
-The computer itself was built in 2002 soo... yeeah, it's pretty old
-The Windows 7 installation isn't so much as a month old - how about that? I haven't tried reinstalling Windows 7... yet.

and once again, thank you very much for the assist(s)

A:from pc chips board to msi board..same problem

If ur not posting and considering what u've done coupled with the MSI diagnostics it is very likely there is a problem with this cpu.
You need to get a hold of another compatible AMD cpu just to see if u can post, from there u can confront the ebay seller for any restitution ovr the cpu if there was any kind of guarantee offered at all with the purchased items.

The thread title's poorly worded, but I don't know how else to describe what I'm asking.

Is there any sort of media player (windows) that will load multiple songs into memory at once for playing so that the HDD won't have to turn on every time a new song is played? I'm asking from a battery life viewpoint; imagine you've got your laptop in the airport, doing some word processing and listening to music. Would it significantly increase battery life to load an entire playlist of songs into memory and just access the HDD once time in a few hours vs every 3 or 4 minutes? Just a question that popped into my head as I was falling asleep last night. Thanks!

I've noticed over maybe the last few days..my computer would randomly freeze/slow down, yet cpu usage and memory in use is low.

It says all of it is cached right now..i don't know if that's normal for Windows 7 or what.
It's not freezing right now but it eventually will, yesterday i got the low memory warning and my computer completely froze up.

I really dunno what to do as my memory doesn't seem bad, neither does the hardware. I only got this computer a little over a month ago and it's been working great, infact it still does aside from these freezes over the last few days.

EDIT:
I'll post another screenshot of when it actually happens to see if there's a difference.
But i noticed my svchost file is at around 331mb of ram..i have 16gb so that shouldn't be the issue though. >.<

A:Windows 7 64bit, Memory usage rises/computer freezes over time.

Have you run any tests on the hard drive or on the RAM?

Have you run sfc /scannow from a command prompt?

Are you virus and malware free?

What anti-virus do you use?

Will this eventually happen if you just start the PC and walk away from it, with no applications opened?

I recently got a virus which was giving me a circle with a white "X" in it, sending a message about how my computer has been infected. I don't remember what it said because I deleted it. But Prior to this I get a Just-In-Time Debugging menu which pops up
which then says, Please select a debugger.

Also I get redirected a lot from google to legit websites, such as monster market place among other things.

I ran a Malewarebytes scan and a spybot s+d scan and they both found things, but now when I scan it shows up clean.
Also when I had the virus it was telling me to uninstall Maleware Bytes.

Thanks for any help

It's critical that my PC keeps the exact time as I record TV shows on it so just a few seconds off one way or the other will make me miss the start or end of my shows.

I found it was drifting off too much between syncs so I found a program that lets me set it to sync daily, however it seems like most of the time it gets the time completely wrong, often as much as 30-90 seconds off. I did notice that when syncing manually in the time settings it normally gets the right time each time, so I don't know why the scheduled syncs get the wrong time.

I did try several of the time servers with the same results.

Is there just no way to get the Windows time sync to work properly and if not are there free third party programs that can do it reliably?

Thanks

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

I am the owner of the company and the closest thing we have to an adminstrator. My desktop is running slow, internet is very slow and keystrokes are delayed quite often. The keyboard is wired so I know it is not a battery situation. I have run virus scans until I am blue in the face, it has not fixed the problem. I had an IT tech install SYmantec ENdpoint about two years agao and it seems that has been causing problems as well. I have tried to remove Endpoint protection from the desktops and network server but it will not fully uninstall. I do not know if that is part of the problem. Attached is the DDS log and Gmer log.

Avast Anti-Virus prevents to send emails time to time, it occurred on a computer in my home network, and then on the other one. This Avast does not issue any messages, just emails remain in the Outbox and do not
appear in Sent items.
I know three ways to send emails in this situation. All this three ways are bad.
  1) Exclusion of scanning outgoing emails in the avast settings. This is bad, since sending emails goes unchecked.

  2) Exclusion of checking port 80 in the avast settings. I found it here -
https://forum.avast.com/?topic=143284.0  There is explanation there, why it is bad.

  3) Restart of the computer, just after restarting outgoing emails go normally.
My post app is Live Mail 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331).
Can somebody explain this?

I've been using Webroot Anti-virus with Spy Sweeper but am looking to change as viruses have recently crippled my computer.

I am interested in using Avast and malwarebytes. Can they both be used for real time protection or would they conflict with each other (and/or take up too much resources)? I am looking at getting the paid version of malwearebytes for real time protection.

Would running only one of these programs as real time protection sufficiently protect my computer from virusues, malware and spyware or would using only one leave me vulnerable?

Thanks for any insight here.

A:Is it a good idea to run Avast and malwarebytes (real time protection) at the same time?

I see you have an open log topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/309829/google-redirect-fake-virus-warnings-antivirus-plus-popup-xp-security-center-and-other-assorted-issues/Please finish up there with m0le before making any changes to your system not called for by m0le.But to answer your question, I highly recommend Avast. As for MBAM, I use the free version for on demand scans. Read this:The full version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware includes the ability to schedule updates and provides a real-time malware protection module that stops malicious processes before they can infect your computer. The Protection Module is not intrusive as it utilizes few system resources and should not conflict with other scanners or anti-virus programs. Keep in mind that Malwarebytes does not act as a real-time protection scanner for every file like an anti-virus program so it is intended to be a supplement, not a substitute. Those who purchase the full version receive a license key via email which includes a lifetime of free upgrades and support. For corporate and business customers, annual licenses are required. Also:Choosing a security toolkit with anti-virus, firewall and anti-malware programs is a matter of personal preference, your technical ability and experience, features offered, the amount of resources utilized, how it may affect system performance and what will work best for your system. A particular combination that works well for one person may not work as well for another. There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone. You may need to experiment and find what is most suitable for your needs. Another factor to consider is whether you want to use paid for products or free alternatives. No single product is 100% foolproof and can prevent, detect and remove all threats at any given time. The security community is in a constant state of change as new infections appear. Each vendor has its own definition of what constitutes malware and scanning your computer using different criteria will yield different results. The fact that each program has its own definition files means that some malware may be picked up by one that could be missed by another. Thus, a multi-layered defense using several anti-spyware products (including an effective firewall) to supplement your anti-virus combined with common sense and safe surfing habits provides the most complete protection. As a general rule, using more than one anti-spyware program like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SuperAntispyware, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, etc will not conflict with each other or your anti-virus if using only one of them for real time protection and others as stand-alone scanners. In fact, doing so increases your protection coverage without causing the same kind of conflicts or affecting the stability of your system that can occur when using more than one anti-virus. The overlap of protection from using different signature databases will aid in detection and removal of more threats when scanning your system for malware. However, if using all their real-time resident shields (TeaTimer, Ad-Watch, MBAM Protection Module, Spyware Terminator Shields, etc) together at the same time, there can be conflicts when each application tries to compete for resources and exclusive rights to perform an action. Additionally, competing tools may even provide redundant alerts which can be annoying and/or confusing.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

I open Event Viewer - "Admin View" to see what Errors/Warnings are there and in the column - Date and Time only the date is showing. Same goes for all the other views.
The "Time" element seems to have completely disappeared.

Any idea where its gone........... and more importantly, how to get it back?

Thanks

A:Time stamp missing from Date and Time column - Event Viewer

Problem solved - but - I don't know why.

Solution:- I changed the Date/Time format from UK to US, opened Event Viewer and it was as it should be. Date & Time showing.
I then changed format back to UK, opened Event Viewer and , as above, the Time was back up.

If anybody knows what had happened I would be most interested.

My thanks to Bill............. from another site for helping me out with this one.

Hi! I have put a "Total Time" field in a form to calculate the difference in minutes from the "Start Time" to the "End Time". I was worried about getting the incorrect time span when the time crossed over midnight. Well, I got that part right, but when I enter times in the same day (1:15pm-1:30pm) it gives me the time difference PLUS 1440 minutes. Please tell me what I need to do to fix this! Thank you!

Total Time:
=DateDiff("n",[Date]-IIf(1-[Start Time]>[End Time],0,1)+[Start Time],[Date]+IIf(1-[Start Time]>[End Time],1,0)+[End Time])

Hello Sonam.

Nice configuration. But it is the display driver that caused here.

What I have seen, the October edition is somehow problematic on a lot of machines. So I would suggest you to do what I did myself.....
Uninstall nVidia display driver using Driver Fusion , and then install an older version which was stable there.

And, you should install Service Pack 1.

Let us know the results.

hey guys,

i just bought a new M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard to enjoy great sound in a foobar2000 + flac combination.

i've successfully installed the Vista 32bit drivers in compatibility mode and everything worked fine until then.

after starting to listen to music, i've experienced that from time to time (doesn't matter if i do something with the PC or just leave it there only playing music) the sound starts hanging (and it sounds like stuttering) for 1-3 seconds. then it comes back to normal...and a few minutes later it happens again. it's VERY annoying...

tried playing with WMP (wasn't happy about it) but the same happens.
tried vista 64bit drivers but couldn't install them. tried old Windows XP SP2 drivers, installed fine but no sound.

any1 got any ideas?
am i the only one who has this issue? did i buy a broken soundcard?

please help.

thanx alot in advance

A:M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound hanging/stuttering from time to time

m-audio are not very 'windows' friendly. they really haven't released a decent driver for xp x64 yet, let alone vista. great cards for linux and apple though, and xp 32bit. i wonder if any of the E-MU options in this price range would fair better...you could always go usb/firewire gear for recording...

Outlook Calendar shows start time in the monthly view but not the end time. I have right clicked on the calendar gone to Other Settings and checkmarked "Show End Time" but the end time still does not show. How do I make the start and end time show in the monthly view?

A:Outlook Calendar shows start time in the monthly view but not the end time.

You did not say what version of Outlook.

I am using Outlook 2007 and note the same as you - only the start time is displayed. I note on mine, if the end time was displayed, there would be little to no room for the Subject title so for me, I would rather have the appointment title instead of the end time. I think in a crowded field (as the monthly view can be) that is best for most people.

I don't see a fix for you. However, for a workaround, with Outlook being in "focus", if you hover over the appointment with your mouse, then the stop time is also displayed in a bubble.

I have quite a conundrum. My Outlook calendar is set to a start time of 7am to and end time of 3pm Monday through Friday. I have turned on auto accept meetings and turned on auto decline conflicting meetings. This all works great. It has declined and added new meetings and all is working wonderfully.... EXCEPT one MAJOR issue.

The auto accept accepts during times that are not my standard work hours. If I set a start time of 7am and an end time of 3pm why is my Outlook accepting meetings at 12pm and 8pm and on weekends?

Dear all,

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue. I would appreciate your help.

Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.

Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?

Much appreciated.

P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?

For right now, lets just try to update your time. To do this, click on the clock in the bottom right. Then, click on change date and time settings. In the window that comes up, go to the top and click on the tab titled Internet Time. Then, click on change settings. Click on update now in the windows that pops up.

Hello everyone,

For the second time within the past two weeks I've had quite an annoying problem regarding my left mouse button on my synaptics pointing device, all of a sudden the left mouse button will stop working. The right mouse button and the rest of the touchpad will work apart from being able to click the LMB function. I've had this happen once before quite a few months ago but thought nothing of it at the time. This occurs for around half a minute to sometimes a minute before returning to normal and being able to use the LMB. I am using a Lenovo Z580 if that is any help to anyone.

I have tried searching around the internet for any information regarding this problem but I have not been able to find any solution or information connected to my issue.

Thank you in advance!

A:Left Mouse Button - Stops working from time to time.

Hello LO mate when you click the button do you hear an audible click from inside the mouse it could be something as simple as a stuck micro switch.

Also if it is a wired one check the USB contacts too - in the plug and socket. You can clean them gently with a strip (about 5 mm with the corners rounded off) of old credit card with some lint free cloth around the end of it moistened very lightly with some alcohol

By the way just how old is the mouse?

My previous system which was Gigabyte AM2+ MA790GX+Apacer 800mhz 8Gb DDR2 was fine and no BSODs ever.
Oh and becouse i have an IDE dvd and cdrom devices i bought PCI/ide adapter. Havent put the driver for it yet .

The thing is that i use the old OS, ussualy i do backup of my data and put it on an external HDD and than i format the HDD and put the fresh OS with all the drivers. So i feal that it might be of a drivers conflict of somesort, ive researched forums and ppl say that mb increase the voltage for the memory becouse all slots are filled but i never touched the voltage settings so i dont know how the memory voltage even called .
Ive done tests i did use OCCT linpack for 30 mins and it was stable and fine, use my 3d graphics app's to fill all the ram and under huge lag it still worked fine and no BSOD after.
BSOD happened id say more in idle times: surfing the web in google chrome i had few unusual messages about something cannot allocate memory 3 times in 2 mins and than finaly BSOD'd. Second time i had a strange issue - no sound again after 8-10 hours of fine work, i clicked on realtek driver and it said failed to :something: the device and in 10 sec BSOD.
Yesterday again in the evening while doing allmoust nothing just again surfing the internet for the same problems with my aimp player playing i had a strange music LOOP and BSOD. PLEASE help

if u want i can post the dmp files that i saved as txt files of their info from the Debugging Tools for Windows (x64), hope this will give u ther necessary info.
By the way i ziped the information using 7-zip, just in case.

ADD: dont read about the crash/problems that dates in 2010, i had a faulty video card and a buggy processor Phenom 1 9600 if im not mistaken the name.

MC Hi and welcome

These three were related to a memory exception (probably caused by a driver)

Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
1-Memtest.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

2-Driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"

A:long time viewer, first time poster. XP startup problem...

Hello Jason and Welcome to TSF

Sorry to hear about your situation. What program were you using to clean out the spyware?

Can you boot into Safe Mode ? (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears)

I have a 4 year old computer that runs perfectly, except when I turn it off at night and then back on the next day, I loose a few hours on the time date at bottom of screen. I ajust each time I use it but the same thing happens each time I turn it off. Could it be the clock battery or ? My operating system is Windows XP Home
Thanks Lc

A:Windows XP time/date clock looses time after shut down.

Welcome to TSG...A bad CMOS battery will cause your machine to lose time. If the system is four years old, you're eligible for that issue...also, if the system has spent any lengthy amount of time (weeks or more) unplugged from AC power, it's more likely to happen.

Next reboot (after leaving it overnight), enter BIOS (setup) and see if the time there is slipping as well.

The battery itself (if that's what's bad) is cheap to replace...less than five bucks.

Please give us some specs on the hardware-make, model, etc.-and we can help you with battery replacement instructions.

Hi,

I am running XP Home SP3 on an Asus 1005HA netbook

Every time I boot up I get a message to say that either I can press F1 to enter setup to set date/time or press F2 to load default values

If I choose F1 and enter the correct date/time and press F10 to save and exit - XP then starts up normally but the next time I boot up, the same problem occurs.

[If I select F2, then XP loads normally]

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks for any help in advance

A:Solved: CMOS Set date/time message every time I boot up

Your motherboard battery is dead. You can get a new one at any drug store for about $5.

Hi folks,

In power options you can switch off the monitor only by time idle. I would like to be able to set a time of day. I can't see an inbuilt way of doing this, so does anyone know of a good application which will allow me to do this?

Thanks in advance,
Ox.

I travel to Colorado from Texas frequently. The last three times I have made the trip, at some point when I change times zones, my 640XL displays a time that is 15 minutes faster than actual time. When this happens, it also will not automatically check emails so that I have to do it manually. The only solution I have found so far is to completely reset the phone and start over as if it is a new phone, uploading everything manually. This takes me a day. Anyone else experience this problem? Other solutions would be appreciated!

Hi everyone I know that thread title may not be clear enough though it is diagnostic from ? unavailable to steps time time, TV Tuner [Win7] exactly related to the issue I have Context The issue I'm facing lasts since years and I tried everything I could from what I gathered online to tackle it I used different computers one Dell one [Win7] TV Tuner unavailable from time to time, diagnostic steps ? PackarBell different TV Tuner dual single all HD PCi and another PCI-e USB external Win x or x Clean installation or long run installation With or without third party related software Kodi Win MCServer etc And I could go on like this for a long time to show how much this issue is lasting and I can't fix it Of course as it has been years you could tell I have moved from houses to flats in the meantime and thus local installation doesn't seem to be part of the issue I checked the parameters linked to process startup sleep mode hardware setup and energy [Win7] TV Tuner unavailable from time to time, diagnostic steps ? consumption modes etc The issue From time to time the TV Tuner s in Win MC will be advised [Win7] TV Tuner unavailable from time to time, diagnostic steps ? as unavailable or signal said lost The fix Most of the time I only need to run a channel scan even interrupt it after done and go back to live TV to have it working again At worst reboot is necessary and even worst a brand new channel cleanup scan My question One could say that as I already have quot fixes quot I could get along with it Thing is when recordings are scheduled and do not kick in while at night and sleeping or away from home it is quite annoying to see when back on the HTPC that nothing happened since Tuner isn't available anymore In my opinion this is a Windows issue though many other things could get in the way and I would like to rule out any reason for which the device is unavailable from time to time but ain't any Windows expert to know where to look when the peripheral is down Here is eventually my question to you gt When this happens what would be the best procedure to follow in order to understand in what part of Windows something tells it no Tuner is available Thanks in advance for your support hope to read you soon

So I recently have had the problem of my computers cpu spiking, I looked at some things and monitored the task manager/process explorer and saw that services.exe, Mcshield.exe, svchost.exe and sometimes even chrome, but this only started yesterday and I have had this computer for around 3 years now. Anything that would help me solve this problem would be greatly appreciated, because I am stumped.
