2011 MBP 13" Won't Power Up

Q: 2011 MBP 13" Won't Power Up

My sister's 13" MBP (2011) died a few hours ago. According to what she told me, she was using it, and then, poof, black screen and no power. She doesn't have the cash at the moment to have it properly checked by a tech, so I did a basic troubleshoot in an attempt to narrow things down.

While the internals are a bit dirty, I didn't see any obvious signs of physical damage (it was relevant to check for this). Furthermore, the machine doesn't seem to respond to any power sources. I tried a couple different power cables and, while the little amber light on the magsafe (sp?) tab will come on briefly, the computer with neither power on nor display a charge on the built-in charge indicator. I will also note that the machine failed while disconnected from an outlet source with a full battery indicated.

My initial conclusions are a) the computer fried itself or b) the battery is toast. Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If no one here can offer any insight, I would post this to the Apple discussion forum. There are usually people there that can diagnose this from just a description so that is your best bet.

I have read many similar comments, and have had the same thoughts in my mind. Not happy with the new Live Mail
Here is a list of some of the good ones. I like Thunderbird.
I do not think its worth the trouble to fix what you have

This sound will simply not turn off. I change the setting from "Default (type)" to "Don't play a sound," and click OK. Nothing changes. I go back to the 'Sound' tab and it's back to "Default."

I had the 'instant message' sound shut off on my previous version of Messenger for as long as I can remember.

Hi I am getting a pop up on my Vista machine that says "you have been infected with a virus
click here to install Vista Anti Viruss 2011". I also had a hard time getting onto the internet
as that message would pop up when trying to access internet.

I was able to open Super Anti Virus software and click on get updates and am running
that right now.

Update: After updating and running SAVirus, it found several files, I rebooted and now I can't open
IE, Firefox, or any of the Microsoft Office products. I get a box that says "This file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action, create an association in the set association control panel".

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dano

Hello there amp Happy New Year I have encountered this particular inconvenience on the nd day Ago" now Win Long - sort "A date by files/folders 7 Time issue 2011 of while i was transfering photos and files into Win 7 sort by date issue - 2011 files/folders now "A Long Time Ago" my PC with Win In my Win PC all files folders created or modified within Dec' and earlier are now all grouped under as quot A Long Time Ago quot This happens when I changed the folder to be quot Group by Date quot or quot Group by Date Modified quot with a combo of quot Sort by type quot I tried sorting in different ways of view to see if I can get it back to what it should be Then i realised even folder newly created on Dec is also grouped as quot A Long Time Ago quot too I am not sure if this is an intended feature The only helpful part is that i will still see the newer files in chronological order if I sort by date modified on top of group by date modified I have been using this setting for folder view even for Win XP As for Win XP i will get quot Yesterday quot quot Last Week quot quot Last Month quot quot Last Year quot quot Two Years Ago quot and ultimately the whole chunk of much older files under quot A Long Time Ago quot Such perfect chronological order I tried to google for a while and not much of returns to this issue I am having Perhaps majority of people does not group their files folders in such way But for me I like the way how it was displayed that I know i have edited created moved whichever files folders last year the previous month or yesterday I hope someone is able to enlighten me on this one and for others who is also looking for an answer Thank you

Quick question that I have not been able to find the answer for...on WLM 2009 and WLM2011, just underneath one's Personal Message in a chat window, there is a line which seems to list previous status updates....is there any way to disable this feature? Or at least to disable the sending of information to it so it has nothing to display? My older grandmother finds it confusing to sign on and see my Personal Message as, let's say "Here for now!" and then directly underneath it, seeing "Running to town, be back later..." from a few days before, even if it says "(8 hours ago)" next to it...?

Thanks!

Hi, I have a virus that I think is the Vista Anti-Virus 2011 one. It is causing me all sorts of problems and I really need some advice on how to get rid of it.

However, I am restricted in what I can do as it seems to be limiting what I can and can't open - when I try to open the regedit for example (one way to fix it according to a website I just looked at) I get a message saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I am a novice so have no idea how to go about tackling this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

In Outlook Express, I could insert images (often helpful when typing instructions with visuals) and they would be the original size. In WLM 2011, the program automatically reduces the size which often means portions of whatever I insert can't always be seen good enough. Attaching keeps the original size but I need to line insert sometimes. Is there a way (setting) to change that won't effect the size of the picture when inserted vs attached?
Thanks

do the picture as an attachment instead of using Photo Album or Single Picture, that is the only way I know to keep the original size. You can also copy and paste the image into the body of the email from the program you are using to edit from, that will keep the same size also

For the last two weeks every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message quot The AC power adapter type cannot be determined Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge Please cannot Supply power - AC type be determined....." "The adapter Power connect a Dell W AC adapter or higher for best system operation quot I press the F Key and everything works fine I ve read about this on other websites and most say it s a design Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....." flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....." become broken and cause this message My computer is from June and shouldn t be having this issue so early or ever This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue I m of course out of warranty will Dell replace this free of charge nbsp

A:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

This may be related to a bug in 2011 where the Junk Mail filter doesn't work properly until you do a "repair install" of 2011 via "Programs and Features".

I have been getting the BSOD since a few weeks and found out by trial and error that a USB-hub is causing the problem. Whenever I disconnect the hub before I shut off the computer I do not get the blue screen.
Yesterday I also got a BSOD that mentioned driver power state failure. After I had de-installed Ubuntu 10.04 (I wanted to see what people are talking about but did not really like it) that problem did not show up again, although I do not know if that is just coincidence.

I have enclosed the dump files as per your instructions and hope that somebody will be able to help me.
Thank you.

A:BSOD with "usbhub.sys" and "driver power state failure"

Welcome!

It does look as if your USB drivers are causing the issue.

I am running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. Whenever I set the option "Turn off the display" to "Never", it reverts back to the default "15 minutes". This is under the "High Performance" profile. I have never, since Windows 3.11, ever had a setting change itself back. I have tried to change it and restart. It will either revert upon restart or shortly after. It will revert back even if I do not restart.

A:Power Option for "Turning off display" remains at "15 minutes"

That sounds like my problem - I leave the computer for an hour and it is shut down (I think sleep mode). I just need to hit the power button and it comes on to where it was when I left - but 2 of my USB devices are lost so I have to restart the computer anyway.

I changed all the power settings to NEVER. But his doesn't seem to make any difference......

I know that the processor uses more electricity the more cycles it performs, and I leave mine underclocked unless I'm playing a game or something.

But what about RAM? Does full/addressed RAM use more electricity than empty/unused RAM?

Or to put it more practically, if I leave my 500MB of Firefox tabs loaded but untouched for 7 hours while I sleep will it use more power than if I had closed and then reopened them?

I recently upgraded to Office 2010...all was fine until recently i had this weird problem in Power Point '10.

I added an Entrance effect to a picture quite easily...but when I tried to add an Exit effect I found out that the Entrance effect was being overwritten in the "Animation Pane".
Again on re-adding the Entrance effect..the Exit effect was being overwritten.

FYI this is happening with everything (pics, text boxes, smart art).It seems you can't add two different effects to the same item.
It should be noted that I experienced no such problems with Power Point 2007...there the Entry and Exit effects were added in separate lines in the Animation Pane.

Any help would be appreciated.

hi,

I have a problem with a usb fed external HDD.

When I plug in via the usb, I get the message: "power surge on hub port".

I am running a Dell inspirion 8600 laptop and it has 2 usb ports. I want to run my digital In
one usb port and my 2.5" external HDD in the other.

I have scanned the web but so far all i have seen is:

1. cover up the problem by removing the error message - not really what I want!
2. Use 2 usb ports for the external HDD - not really what I want as I only have 2 usb ports and want to keep one free for digital camera or other things perhaps.

Surely, in 2006 with IT advances there must be a professional rock solid solution somewhere to this problem?

I run windows xp, with SP2 and auto upload all the latest updates.

Thanks to all for any help

The external drive may require two USB ports, one for data transfer, and the other for power. Unless there's the option for a power adapter to plug into the enclosure, you may not have a choice.

i have tried to power it up with power ac plugged in and without. on/off power button flashes white.
battery is inside "sealed" and may be difficult to access.
ran fine yesterday, shut down with 20% battery life.

if the ac plug is unplugged then i can get the led to turn off but once pushed, it ony flashes. no results

warranty is expired.
unit manufactured april 23 2015

i currently have it plugged in but no flashing light as i have not pushed the power button. im hoping that it will take a charge or correct itself with time.

what do you suggest? thank you

A:i have a lenovo edge 15 model80k9. led power light is blinking but computer will not repond. no power up . the battery is "s

Try the following...

1. Take out (or take it off) the charger.
2. Next take out the battery
3. Now hold down power button for 20 seconds and then rinsert battery.
4. Now put it on the charger again

NOTE: Make sure charger is plugged into the main power supply (not an extension cord, surge protector, etc.)

Sometimes, when the device is not plugged in directly, it doesn't get the power it needs. Holding the power button, while you restart it, clears out the temporary ram (no it won't delete anything you have saved) and will give the device access to the ram it needs.

i purchased a new magsafe 1 power adapter to replace my broken one when it arrived i noticed it was the larger 85w version and it won't charge my macbook pro, does this mean i can't use it, or did i just get it doa?

A:Solved: 85w magsafe 1 adapter not charging early 2011 13" macbook pro

Looks like quite a few people have had issues with that specific charger. Based on the content of the reviews I would say DOA unit and likely a unit that will not last long or not charge correctly.

Hi all,

I have a W7 x64 desktop.

I have set the Power Options>System Settings - Define power buttons (When I press the power & sleep button) to "Do nothing", yet i can still shut down my desktop via Start>Shutdown and by pressing the physical power button.

What gives?

A:Does changing "Power & sleep button settings" only apply to laptops?

Check the BIOS, there is probably an "instant off" or 4 sec delay option for when you press the power button while the PC is on.

Hello,
I recently encountered a sudden blue screened error message with the following error that was suggested to research: "Power_Driver_State_Failure". I have only seen the error once thus far, but I fear that I may see it again at some point. It forced a restart, and the rebooting process was rather slow.
My operating system is Windows 8.1, and I have a Lenovo Y510p ideapad (nearly 9 months old).
Is this a significant error? Is there any way to prevent it from returning again?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
~Trav.~

This is the second time this occurs, and both times were ingame right after 2-3 minutes when launching,GTAV and now with BO2,it just went off and on with the following:

"Power supply surges detected during the previous power on.
Asus Anti-surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply unit!
Press F1 to Run Setup"

What could be causing this ?

A:Sudden shutdown "Power supply surges detected during the previous...."

This could be caused by your household power supply suffering from a power surge, or a sudden short power outage.

Your computer PSU (Power Supply Unit) is developing a fault. If your PSU has a separate power switch, usually located at the back of the computer on the PSU, try switching of on & off a few times. Only do this with the computer shut down. Sometimes these switches lose contact through lack of use, so operating them a few times helps.

You need a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply). Google Uninterruptable Power Supplies & see which ones might suit you.

win 2000
run control panel/display widget
screen saver tab
upper section -- screen saver
screen saver drop down menu - set to (none)
bottom section --energy savings features of monitor
press button labelled "power..."
"power options properties " window appears
bottom section: "settings for Home/Office Desk power scheme"
Turn off monitor: after 5 minutes (selected)

Sometimes after using the system for a couple of days, my monitor
"forgets" to shift into standby mode after 5 minutes of inactivity.

What causes this forgetfulness? Is there a fix for it?
One fix that always works is a restart. Is there a less drastic fix that would
leave everything up and running?

Hey all this is my first thread here I overnight XP. Windows power "hibernates" disabled? saving PC with settings all am attempting to troubleshoot this PC and it has stumped me The PC according to the user quot goes to sleep quot overnight and when they quot wake PC "hibernates" overnight with all power saving settings disabled? Windows XP. it up quot there is no LAN connection In order to resolved their issue they have to restart their system and then everything is dandy Furthermore at around - pm everyday apparently they can not print The PC that can not print during those times is not connected to a domain or anything of that sort that has the capabilities of time restricting such services Unless XP itself does have something like that built-in to it that I completely overlooked Anyways to troubleshoot this matter I checked all the power saving settings under the control panel and everything was set to stay on Hibernate was also deselected so therefore the software should not be utilizing it I also went into the device manager and checked power saving settings within each device Everything was set to not allow to turn off to save power The only setting I did change on one of the PCs is under the Network Adapter in device manger I changed the WOL setting to quot auto quot instead of disable in hopes that if the computer would at least have a LAN connection upon waking However this does not solve the issue because we do not want the PCs hibernating at all One last thing I did check the ACPI in BIOS because I did see that sometimes that could conflict with the OS power settings I attempted to disable it on one of the PCs and got stuck in a boot loop so I reenabled it I hope this explains my situation thoroughly and if more information is needed please ask

A:PC "hibernates" overnight with all power saving settings disabled? Windows XP.

SP3 contains a fix for network connection failing to wake up until Windows is restarted.
Is SP3 installed (and all hotfixes released since SP3)?

Also check for newer driver for wireless adapter from the PC or laptop manufacturer's website.

Hello,

I left my computer on and open this morning before I left for class. When I returned, I had a BSOD, which specified "Driver Power State Failure" (I did not copy down any numbers, as I probably should have). I did a forced shut down (held the power button) and then restarted it, where it fortunately works for now.

My laptop is an Dell XPS-15, about two years old. I have not had any problems with it until now, and the past week or so it has been freezing up. I downloaded the SF Diagnostic Tool, and the zipped folder is attached.

I am uncertain what action to take next. Could someone advise me in how to fix the issue?

Thank you!!

A:BSOD after sleep or hibernation - "Driver Power State Failure"

upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

In this situation what you are to do is:
Download and install |MG| Driver Fusion (Driver Sweeper) 1.1.1 Download.
Reboot the computer in Advanced Boot Options, safe mode. Search Driver Fusion in your start menu, and remove all components of your nVidia display driver.
Boot normally now. Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, follow option two to search for the appropriate driver for your system automatically, and install it.
Follow the steps, and let us know the situation.

A:Hard Drive and XP install "issue" - Ice Storm Power knock out

ok after getting a new HD, it seems that the wife's computer is not even seeing the drive at all. I have read through a lot of websites and etc but I'm not all that smart when it comes to hardware and BIOS things. I don't understand why its not seeing the drive ( master and slaves are all none and the utility CD that came from the HD isn't seeing it either...)

Is the Motherboard kaputz ?

or can someone maybe explain how I might try to fix this ?

I've looked on Google, Dell, and a few other places to find out what happened to my Ultrabook. The laptop kept saying it was getting no power although it was plugged in and charging (or so it said). Finally it ran out of power, and in the last throws, it would try to power on, then die for lack of power. I bought a new AC Power supply, tested the electrical connections (all at spec), a new battery,,.and all but the motherboard. Here's my question: what is the difference between the Dell xps 9530 nwym9, 43pmm, and r99vn? I'm sure something in the nomenclature is obvious, but I just don't see it.
Aside from the mnotherboard designation questions, has anyone solved the power out question? What lead up t6o this situation what constantly shortened power, although plugged in. Thank you

to start with all you had to do was open my computer -> check properties of C:\ -> click cleanup -> advanced -> and clean prior installs of old windows versions. (it is in the manual).

Power save mode: are you using a LAPTOP? If yes, make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in. (that is in the manual also.)

tried to format? exactly what do you mean I tried? what did you format to: fat16, fat32 or NTFS? what format command did you use.? what version of Win 7 are you trying to install?
fill in your complete system specs. all the info you can give will really assist.

Hello I have DLNA working perfectly to my PS My win machine in the basement is connected settings. mode is "When considered Sharing Media" in DLNA not power via Mb Ethernet to the PS upstairs When I start a DLNA server I have tried different ones so far I can see and play the files upstairs However Win does not consider that quot streaming quot for power saving features If I set my Sleep time for DLNA is not considered "When Sharing Media" in power mode settings. Win to hour and then DLNA is not considered "When Sharing Media" in power mode settings. go into advanced power options - Multimedia Settings - When Sharing Media - Prevent Idling to Sleep it has no effect If I change it to quot Allow the computer to enter away mode quot it also has DLNA is not considered "When Sharing Media" in power mode settings. no effect Win will happily put itself to sleep at whatever the Sleep timeout is set for On the other hand if I use my original XBOX which supports SMB shares and I play a video from a shared directory on my Win then the computer happily stays awake When I am done the video the sleep timer starts and when I come downstairs in the morning the computer has put itself to sleep Is there any way to force Win to pick up the fact that it is sharing media via DLNA and avoid putting itself to sleep I can obviously bump up the sleep timeout to or hours but that kind of destroys the point of having it automatically go into sleep mode If I had my way I would set it for mins max as long as DLNA was being detected so that it stayed awake Thanks DD

I have been using my asus laptop but recently started blue screening. When trying to shut it down the screen will go black, but the system lights remain on and it remains running, however irresponsive. It also began showing a blue screen with the warning "Driver power state failure".

Even after a factory reset this problem remains. Any help to figure out the problem would be greatly appreciated.

When I setup power management to turn off my hdd at say 15 minutes. When the hdd shuts off I hear a uneasing "clunk" sound. Maybe the arm getting yanked to rest position?

When I turn off my system normally I never hear the hdd's make this "clunk" sound they just spin down easy and retract the heads very nicely.

Why is this?

It's the reason I never use power management to spin down or shut down hdd's forcing my puter use more power and keep hdd's spinning until normal shutdown.

Today I purchased a new monitor and computer:

Computer
Monitor

Initially, I hooked the monitor up to my HP mini, then to my new desktop. When I hooked it up to the desktop, it says "DSUB Power Saving Mode" and then goes to sleep. I have checked the connections and they are secured in tightly.

Prior to this I have never used either the monitor or the desktop. The monitor worked on my netbook. I think I accidently set the settings of my monitor to that of the netbook and I have no idea how to set them back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously there a many, many different home desktop configurations out there...from a top of the line latest desktop setup to one that's 6 or 7 years old....but...is there an accepted "average" elctrical power usage for the "common' home desktop PC ?

How would one estimate/check an individual desktop PC's energy use (ie. cost per hour or day if left on 24hrs) without having to purcahse any expensive watt-o-meter type unit ?

Thanks....TRinAz

A:What is the "Typical" residential PC home desktop power usage ?

Simple leave it on 24/7 for a month then for the next month use it as you would normally. Look at your bill for the 2 different months.

Other then that the meter is the only way.

Hi there,
I have some serious trouble with my Latitude E5540. In Windows (10, 64bit), it says that it's working on AC, but does not charge. It stays at 39%.
I've done some reading on the Internet and found several approaches which I followed. I updated BIOS and cleaned the connectors of the battery, which obviously didn't help.
Now, I've really run out of ideas and cannot come up with anything more. I've contacted Dell support, but I guess they won't help because the device is more than two years old and I only had 1 year NBD service.
Something I haven't tried is uninstalling the battery hardware from the device manager. Is this a serious option?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Any suggestion is most welcome! Thanks in advance.

Greetings,
Achim

Though you mentioned you do not have a spare battery, can you borrow one from somebody or take it to a local store to try (if possible)

Hi guys this is my first post here and kinda new in this forum. I have a socket478 PC with a stucked power button i've removed the front panel and cut the wires that is connected to the end of power switch and try to short it and guess what it didnt worked no fan movement no mobo light indicator no beeps. Before i tried to turn it on by shorting the power switch wires i removed all external parts and memory the only thing that is hooked up is the cpu. Could it be a mobo problem?

A:broken power switch "shorted mobo not responding"

You want to jumper the wires together for only a second or two. The computer won't turn on, or will quickly turn on and back off, if the wires are left jumpered together. You need to have memory installed for the computer to start up.

I recently swaped out a power supply to replace a broken one in another computer. Now this computer has no power supply, but I have another spare ATX that fits, so I screwed it into the computer, powered it up, and it works. Except after like 3 mins the fans seem to die down. After another minute, the computer gives a "Computer shutdown due to thermal events" error. Does this mean I put in the wrong type of power supply? Is the fan messed up?

so my computer started unexpectedly shutting down about 60 seconds after loading windows today. No BSOD, no error message, no warning, just a hard shutdown. It happened consistently every time I started the computer, unless I was in safe mode, then I had no issues. So I went into msconfig, and eventually tracked the problem down to a specific system service - "power". If that process is stopped, no hard shutdown. But that process seems to be responsible for Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, so I have no audio if it is stopped. Can anyone think of any reasons for this process to cause an unexpected shutdown? and how do I go about fixing it?

A:Unexpected shutdown if system service "power" is running

Sounds like a driver power state failure.
Turning on driver verifier may cause a bsod we can then read the minidump for and get some more direct answers. Anything right now would be pure guesswork.
Instructions for activating driver verifier follow
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
(Please read all instructions for driver verifier before using as it's possible it will make the machine behave badly and you need to know how to undo it.)

Moved our desktop computer and during reconnection realized everything was working except the sound. Plugged in the speakers to what I thought was the correct connection (next to the monitor plug...it was the only space that was the right size) to find out it most likely was not :-( Monitor went black and now only says "in power save mode press any button on keyboard or move mouse" then goes black again. Keyboard
lights are not working and mouse is unresponsive.
I've unplugged everything and powered off the computer. Reboot sounds normal but can not see anything. Any suggestions?!

A:monitor is black and reads "in power save mode"

Welcome to TSG! Sorry nobody got back to you sooner. If your thread ever goes a few days without a response feel free to post the word "bump", which will move it to the top of the list and hopefully catch somebody's attention.

Sounds like you may have toasted something in the motherboard; I don't know exactly why this would be. Try one of the two options below:

1) Plug a known working monitor into the PC. If it works, then there is just some problem with the original monitor. Hopefully nothing else is wrong. If it does not work, then you have almost certainly damaged something inside the PC.
2) Plug the monitor into a known working PC. If it works, then you know there must be a problem with the board inside the original PC. If it doesn't, then your problem lies within your monitor.

Let me know the results and we will go from there.

GTX ASUS P T Board BG RAM channels W power supply and a quot HP screen x The HW is quitea few years old bought it more or less when it was released first No HW component was ever over clocked Using constantly the currently latest WHQL drivers right now on a win bit which gets it's updated almost daily Issue Since a few month - the PC crashes immediately shuts down exactly if you'd disconnect the power cord and reboots afterwards This ONLY happened when playing PC games This crash however does not necessary happen every evening I play Still I'd say if I play more then h it has a very high chance to occure So far I have only noticed this quot crash quot when I play grafic intensive games like Skyrim Games like Wow were so far not affected by this crash If a crash happens and the PC is rebooted I have an almost chance that - sec after the game is started again the PC crashes again If crashed once the crash will happend very repeatable So far I could avoid these quot crashes quot by playing the games not at max resolution but something like full HD which worked over - month for Skyrim and other games very well crashes in a time frame I'd have expected to see - crashes gt def no coincidence Up to now this worked but since today even wow crashes and it did do it also when playing at only full HD resolution What I did noticed so far As the crash looks exactly like a powerloss and very related to the GPU I checked the temperature of the GPU with GPU-Z I have a few logs where the PC crashed and in no case the GPU temperature was above C GPU load usually is slightely below Seems low to me Even the PCB temperature is very low gt not really an indication of a too hot PC Missing a tool for the CPU tried the same with CPU-Z for the CPU but it does not seem to have temp sensors for the CPU Oh by the way since quite a few weeks it is VERY dry in the PC room often below - Question - Anyone an idea in what direction to look Any tools I could log some conditions to narrow down what component is causing this I'd assume a temperature issue resulting in a power loss but where My tendency is the power supply - Since I build my PC 's since year on my own playing with HW is not really new to me And obviously I'd have changed HW piece by piece to see which component is playing bad But exchaning a GPU for a quot CPU MB RAM Power supply is not really cheap just quot to try through what is causing the crash quot - BSOD are not generated At least the quot BlueScreenView quot er from NirSoft tells me there is no BSOD Not really surprising if it is a power problem how should one be written

A:"Power loss" while playing games - how to narrow down the failure ?

I think your psu is failing and not supplying enough amps to the graphics card anymore.

Sadly the only way to be sure about that would be with a psu tester and they cost a few bucks.

My friend is having this problem where he gets the error "Power Surge in Hub Port" and his mouse stops working. Usually he is able to just take it out and put it back in and it will work for another 10-15 minutes. However, as of today, he got that error and tried several times but nothing, it's just stopped working. The stupid thing is it tells him to click on it if he wants to fix it, but his mouse isn't working, and when it does work, the message goes away. Is there anything I can do to help him out? So far, having checked out the problem, its not the mouse, unless both of the mice he has are both defective. I just can't locate the problem. Thanks in advance.

A:Unresponsive Mouse "Power Surge in Hub Port" Error

Is this USB or PS/2? In other words, is it a little round connector, or a rectangular one?

If it's round (PS/2), I'm not sure what to do, but if it's rectangular (USB), try plugging it into a different USB port. Maybe plug it into a port on the front of the case.

A couple weeks ago I was using fruity loops program and all of the sudden my screen went mode" Monitor screen blank save "power black and quot d-sub power save mode quot was all that was shown After a few restarts my PC would start normally but take me directly into bios where I disabled the power save mode but Monitor blank screen "power save mode" still went Monitor blank screen "power save mode" blank after a few hours of running normal I tried restarting as I had done the first time but noticed my screen stayed blank after multiple restarts Eventually my PC had brought me to the bios page as did before but when I would exit bios this time Windows XP no longer appeared and I was back to blank screen Now I can t even access bios and the screen stays blank but the fans and cd drive work and everything sounds normal on startup Here s what I ve tried but had no luck Reseated the memory and agp video card Removed CMOS for hours and put it back Thoroughly cleaned inside PC Switched power cables and tried monitor on a laptop and monitor works fine on laptop Pressed all key commands Inserted Windows XP cd and I can hear it running but no picture nbsp

A:Monitor blank screen "power save mode"

If you have more than one RAM stick try one at a time. Disconnect all drives, extra cards (sound etc.) leave just CPU/HS/fan, RAM and vid card. Try video card in another system. Replace power supply. I realized these last two are not always possible.

Hello all so im having this issue that Supply crashing, CPU problem? to Power prevent "Underclocked" is driving me "Underclocked" CPU to prevent crashing, Power Supply problem? mad My system specs Asus A n x-e deluxe mobo AthlonXP Samsung x ddr mem nvidia le gc samsung dvd-rom optorite dvd-rw sygate sata gb hd floppy drive case fans cpu-fan My problem started as a random IRQ BSOD about NOV i did the normal Replaced mem checked graphics card updated all drivers Still happening So i cleaned up the case figuring it was dirty maybe some contacts on the components weren t contacting While i was in there i removed of my previously case fans The problem now took a little bit longer to show its ugly face but i couldn t leave the comp on overnight without seeing the BSOD in the morning So a week ago i figured i would change the cpu multiplyer to about "Underclocked" CPU to prevent crashing, Power Supply problem? half and run the processor at mhz rather then the norm Havent seen the bsod since i underclocked it This morning i decided to turn it back up to mhz and as soon as it boots- BSOD Turned it back down and its stable I don t know what to replace I was thinking Power supply because the fans slowed the bsod down and the cpu isnt taking as much power at mhz Its one of those generic w psus that came with my generic case Worked fine for about a year Could this also be the processor causing the problems What do you all think Thanks in advance Rob nbsp

A:"Underclocked" CPU to prevent crashing, Power Supply problem?

Could it be the unthinkable possibility of overheating? Yes, you removed two fans and it made things better, but that could have been because the airflow changed for the better inside the case.

And of course, it can be the PSU.

A:(Resolved) attaching "auto-run" on CD Power Point Program

You need an autorun.inf file on the CD that contains the following. Obviously replace ie5setup.exe with your .exe

It seems to happen with more demanding games. Desktop, internet browsing and less demanding games it works very well, but during games such as Portal 2 or Skyrim it freezes my entire computer. When I try to ALT+TAB out it either goes to a blank screen or it just doesn't do anything at all. I usually have to force restart my computer in order to get it working properly again. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do next?

A:Freezing while gaming. "Driver Power State Failure"

try this : Wagnard Tools then download DISPLAY DRIVER UNINSTALLER.
it ask you to reboot in safe mode when u launch the software, so reboot
then clean and uninstall your graphics card driver ,then install the latest one which can be found in the manufacturer website like nvidia, intel, or amd. or try this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiAbYY9U998

Hi everyone. While I was installing windows, my mom accidently hit the fuse in my garage and the power went out. When I rebooted the computer, it says "error loading operating system". I wasn't even half way done installing it. What can I do? I was thinking I could start fresh but I do not know how to do that.

Thanks!! If you have a solution, please tell me, my spring break ends on Monday and I would like to get as much gaming done before I go back to school!

This happens whenever my computer encounters "Bootmgr is missing". After fixing up that problem, when I let my computer around 5 minutes, it goes to "Power Saving Mode". I have checked the settings at power management, and I never set my computer into that mode. I also replaced my monitor with another one, but it appeared the problem is still persist.

Appreciate your kind advice and solutions for this problem.

Thanks.

I usually have no trouble with RAM choking or high CPU usage, even with sometimes over ten programs running in the background. But recently, the task manager lists the "system" process as taking up half, sometimes all of my CPU. Not "system idle process," I know that's supposed to be high. I'm talking about just "system," which I'm told is basically the OS. But what's it doing all of a sudden that's so busy? All my background apps are listed as taking up practically zero CPU energy, and my RAM is almost always more than half a gig free. So what's my system doing?? I run Ad-aware and Norton SystemWorks frequently and keep both up to date, so I wouldn't think it could be a virus or spyware... but what do you all think? Thanks for any help!

I recently upgraded my motherboard, processor and memory, then installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 x64 Pro. I've been having problems from day 1. Originally, the computer would hang at either "logging off" or "shutting down" whenever I'd try to restart the machine (which is frequently when you're having to install drivers and programs). Now, it will still hang, but will then BSOD on me.

I've also come home once or twice and found that it'd BSOD'd while I was away. I think I've updated all the drivers, but like I said - I've been having issues from the start, and I'm not sure everything finished installing cleanly.

BSOD error has consistently been "Driver Power State Failure".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dumps attached.

Thanks!

A:BSOD with "Driver Power State Failure" -new build - hangs on shutdown

I'd still love to know what was messing my system up, but I ended up doing a complete reinstall anyway.

My Windows 7 key is an upgrade key, and Microsoft makes finding install media unnecessarily difficult. The image I used the first time was a bit... sketchy. I'm hoping that this time around I won't have the same issues, but I guess only time will tell.

Ok so recently my computer stopped working completely. Regardless of how many times I reboot and try to re-plug the monitor cables, etc. it will still just turn on then say the monitor's in power save mode. Now, in the past when I started my comp it would beep a pleasant once then start up. Now that the monitor's stuck in power save mode when I start it there is one long beep then 3 rapid ones following it. Anyone know if that means anything? Thanks in advance.

Hey,

Lately I have been starting to get a notification - "Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown" - after waking up my computer. It restarts fine, but my Volume, Network, and Power icons are gone in the taskbar when this happens. I can't see if there was any errors because my Computer is always in Sleep Mode when it happens.

I run scans daily with Avast and MalwareBytes, and there's no viruses. I've also disabled some startup programs recently, so that might be affecting it. I know how to Re-Enable the icons, it's just a pain to do and I'd like to see if it's anything serious.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

Merry Christmas,
Verticity

A:Windows "recovers from an unexpected shutdown" with no Power, Network, & Volume Icons

Hello, you could start out with some software checks. System Files - SFC Command and this : Check Disk - chkdsk

If good, go to a hardware check : www.carrona.org Got memory and hard drive checks there.

Also. check for malware using your antivirus program and free of Malwarebytes. : Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

I purchased a Terratec DMX 6 fire 24/96 sound card and a Red5 Audio RV8 large diaphragm capacitor microphone working through an "Audio Buddy" to get phantom power as I was told these would be compatible. However, the Terratec manual says that "phantom power" microphones do not work with this soundcard. I have plugged the microphone into the phono input of the card, which works, but the input is too powerful. Is there any way the microphone can be made to work with this soundcard through the microphone input? or any other way?
Any help please otherwise I appear to have wasted a lot of money!!!
