I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I've never heard of this happening before but I was trying to help my friend fix his internet problem today with no luck. Whats happening is every time his girlfriend turns on her computer (its a little acer aspire d255) it automatically connects wirelessly to their network. And as soon as it does it kicks his computer off the internet and it is a wired connection. I played around with some router and firewall settings and I got it so that his computer will reconnect after a while but it still disconnects every time the acer tries to connect. I am stumped here anyone know what the hell is going on? They said they tried it at there parents and the acer connects fine and doesn't cause any issues there.

Both computers running win 7 and he has a linksys router.

Hello there everyone again! I jsut downloaded SP2 on my XP HOME computer and now the computer profile and the OS will not start properly? It boots real slow but then doesn't load the profile. I can't even uninstall like this?

Anyone have any Ideas?

A:sp2 broke my computer

Does it even boot into Windows to allow you to get TaskManager up? If so, Press alt/ctrl/del and see if TaskManager will appear. If it does, click on File>New Task. Then key in appwiz.cpl and click on ok. Once Add/Remove Programs appears, scroll down and locate "Windows XP Service Pack 2" and uninstall it.

Let us know what happens or if your unable to get to Task Manager...

If i need a CD please tell me where i can get one cuz i dont have any that came with the computer. I dont know a lot about computers so if you tell me to do somthing tell me everything you have to do. Thanks!

A:I need help i think my computer broke

You can use any copy of XP to do this. Use Recovery Console by booting to a WinXP disk, then run the following:

fixboot
fixmbr
chkdsk /r

in that order.

If this is a laptop, or a pre-manufactured computer that has a system restore partition you have to access by special keystroke DO NOT do the first two, as it will keep you from being able to access your restore partition if you have to do a factory reinstallation.

What brand & model computer is it ?

Well I have to put like lots of pressure on a certain part of my laptop for it to work, otherwise it just stops.

Lol, and ofcourse I cant just have one elbow leaning on the latpop whilst im trying to type..

So annoying.

Ive opened the back of my laptop and I dont see anything loose or anything, so I dunno, maybe a switch or whatever it is, isnt making a connection, and thats why it works when I put pressure on...??

A:Computer Broke?

Check and see if moving your a/c adaptor makes the computer work/not work. It is common for the d/c power jack on laptops to get loose, or corrode. If that is the issue, they can be replaced. The actual part is only $10 to $20 USD, but the labor will run $100 to $200 USD to fix. (Of course, you could fix it yourself if you are REAL good at repairing laptops and soldering very small parts.)

A:I think i broke my computer, can someone help?

Hello and welcome to the forum

pci devices are cards that are plugged into the motherboard. You can open the case, and remove any cards ( except the video card ) and reboot to see if the same error is there. Be sure to pull the power cord prior to opening the case.

I have a gateway PC and am running windows XP. I was going to install a new sound card. I took off the side of the computer and looked inside. I played around with the old sound card and took it out and put it back in. I decided to try the computer again before installing the new sound card now when I start the computer it seems to turn on but the monitor just keeps showing the monitor check. I've tried turning it on and off, unplugging it, and anything else I may try. Nothing is working. Please help. I need my computer.

Thanks

I had a remote access person mess up my computer.  I thought I was talking to NETGEAR tech support but wasn't.  I pulled the internet connection when I figured out what was going on, but probably too late.  I have run Advanced system Care Pro 9 and then exited that and ran Norton Internet security to remove all that could be found.  Everything seems to work now, except my wifi adapter can not be identified by the setup software.  I bought a new NETGEAR A6210 but it still won't see the adapter.  I can install the adapter on another PC and it works fine.  Netgear tech support could not resolve the problem.  I tried a NETGEAR A4100 and saw the same result.  I am running Windows 7 Pro 64. I ran HIJACKTHIS but don't see anything obvious.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

OK, this morning i removed my computer from its normal resting place to see what kind of RAM it uses, and i removed the ram, figured it out, and then put it back, affixed it, and put the case on it, and now when i try to use my computer, nothing happens, it will turn on it has power, but like, the monitor doesnt show up my mouse and keyboard do not power up, its like nothing is connected to it,,, but trust me it is, please help!

A:i think i broke my computer, need help!

Did you use any anti static pre-cautions when removing and handling the RAM, if not, then i would suggest you probably destroyed the memory IC's on the boards.

A:Broke my Computer

Hi kdad64, Welcome to TSG!!

I have split your post off to a thread of your own so please reply here.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items (if they appear):

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{49264316-7E8F-48F5-9DAA-A49581A7868C}: NameServer = 85.255.116.104
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9E4ED8D4-9099-42C7-96F4-78D6C4A02A69}: NameServer = 85.255.116.104
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{49264316-7E8F-48F5-9DAA-A49581A7868C}: NameServer = 85.255.116.104

Then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hello!

I bought and installed windows 7 on my laptop and it was activated.. The laptop broke when I dropped it (hardware failure) and I'm wondering if I can use the same windows 7 license on my other laptop?

A:Computer Broke - Windows 7 license on other computer?..

That would depend on which version that you have...upgrade, student, OEM, NFR or retail.

Hi, I have had my computer since Christmas and it has been working fine up until today when I updated windows on it. I have done this previously but it always crashes on start up and made me go back to an earlier date. Now it's not even letting me go back to an earlier date and it won't let me start windows normally and the startup repair fails. Is there any way I can fix this?
Thanks

I finally decided to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, however during installation the screen went black forever so the installation clearly failed.
I tried to switch off and on again but now I am getting an error 0xc00000f "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible".
It suggests to insert my Windows installation disc but I don't have one.
Does this mean I need to buy a new PC?

I just installed the latest free version of Avast. It blocked my internet connection.

Tried a few settings...nothing.

Uninstalled, Reboot...I'm back!

A:Avast 4 Broke My Computer

Are you using some kind of firewall?avast! uses an HTTP proxy server called Web Shield for scanning all HTTP traffic. In simple words it scans all the data before it gets downloaded n your browser. If you do not allow avast! Web Shield to access internet and act like local server then, you wont be able to access web sites in your browser. Two possible solutions - Disable Web Shield component in avast! settings, or allow ashWebSv.exe in your firewall. For more information : http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html

I have a Hp computer tower, with a RCA monitor. Everything was working. But then I tried messing with the resolution. I set it one too high and now all I see is a black background with a gray box bouncing around with white letters saying not supported. Wasn't sure what to put this under but it is running on Windows 7.

I have already tried to following things:
Unplugging and plugging back in.
Restoring from a different time.
Starting in safe mode.
Restarting.

Was shutting my computer off before bed last night when it told me to get updates. So I got them. Shut it off and went to bed.

Today I can't do anything. Windows boots fine and everything, I noticed the first loading screen took quite a bit longer then usual. It boots but I can't load anything. Chrome, Firefox, Skype, everything just gets stuck on the circle loading mouse thing. I can load Windows programs like Windows Media Player or Windows Update but I can't load anything else. I work from home and I don't know what to do. I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I got my new comp yesterday and it was working fine but during critical updates the power cord came unplugged and since then my computer won't work. When I press the power button it turns on for a second or two, then immediately turns off, then just continues doing this in an endless loop restart cycle. I cannot access bios and my monitor does not turn on during the few seconds that the computer has power. My power cord does not work in my current old desktop and the power cord from my old desktop does not work in my new pc..

is my computer broken, or is there a fix?
Might just ship it back Monday for a replacement.

I have tried inserting the windows 8 disc, but computer doesn't stay on long enough to do anything. I've also pressed f2, f8, f10, f12 all of those and nothing works or causes the computer to respond.

A:New computer broke after interrupting update

Sounds like something is glitched big time or you have a hardware failure.

There are ways to try a BIOS install using a USB drive in the old days. Not sure it is possible with UEFI systems though. Easiest, send it back.

A bit confused by this: " My power cord does not work in my current old desktop and the power cord from my old desktop does not work in my new pc.."

Do you have a known good power cord?

So I had a computer with Windows 7 installed on it. Unfortunately, it broke beyond repair, and I was forced to "decommission" the computer to my garage where it sits now. Now I have a new computer, but I realized that I only have one product key for Windows 7. That key is used on the broken computer, while I can't activate Windows 7 on my new computer because the product key is already in use.

Is it possible to somehow free up the product key again? I know that you can somehow uninstall the OS on an old computer to free the key up, but I have no way of uninstalling it when the computer itself won't start up. Is there another way to free the product key up, or am I now forced to either fix the computer or buy another copy of Windows 7?

A:Old computer broke, can I decommission the product key?

A migrated retail Product Key is freed up after reinstall during the required activation robocall, when you answer the question "How many computers is this copy of Windows 7 installed upon" with the only acceptable answer "One".

This authorizes MS to overwrite in their Activation servers the hardware ID associated with a retail Product Key with a new one represented by the number string traded during the call.

If for any reason the old PC is started up again, or its HD is used elsewhere, be sure to wipe the HD or delete the partition since the old OS will lose activation if connected to the web anyway.

Hi, I was getting an error from smss.exe so I located 3 files with the same name (all located in different areas). I renamed all 3 to "asd" with no .exe extention. I then restarted my computer and I get a blue screen of death every time windows is about to load. I've tried safe mode, last known config, start windows normally ect, but nothing seems to work. I loaded in the Windows XP disk and hit "repair" and now i can access the harddrive where my OS is, but windows still doesn't load.

Is it possible to rename "asd" back to "smss.exe" using the command prompt so I can use my computer again? Basically smss.exe is there, but it has a different name.

Is it possible to put smss.exe back?

Is there any way to fix this problem?

Thanks

A:Renamed smss.exe and broke my computer :(

Yes, from the recovery console (where you manage to boot using the XP CD), use "dir" to list the files in a directory, "cd" to navigate in the folders and "ren" to rename a file.

try this :

cd c:\windows\system32\
ren asd smss.exe

Tell us if you have any error message or problem.

Thanks

After updating my computer last night to a new build of Windows 10, a ton of issues cropped up on reboot.
1) Everything was slower, including startup
2) Trying to open the start menu resulted in a blue wheel of death
3) Ctrl+Alt+Del gives a black screen where only the mouse can be seen
4) Only program I can currently launch is file explorer, can't seem to run any .exe's
After rolling back to the previous build, the sluggish startup and login went away but the other isssues persisted. Searching for a fix convinced me this might be a virus issue, but without being able to run any programs I'm at a loss on how to troubleshoot that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Computer seemingly "kicked out" from both home routers.

By running ipconfig /all several more times I discovered that under the I-E NIC my physical address is the correct MAC I have stored in the Access List and the IPv4 address looks just like a valid home network address - 192.168.something.something

However under the Tunnel adapter isatap my Physical address is simply 0s.

To make a long story short,At the beginning of October I took my Laptop in for a 2 gig memory upgrade. When I got it home it was not working well at all!It would shut off and restart.I opened the panel after hearing something inside and found that the piece that holds the strip in was broken off..Well they replaced the motherboard and I'm still having the same problem..
I'm thinking perhaps they put the same strips in and they may be damaged?I've scanned my compuer for viruses and it's clean..

Thanks in advance!

I have a Toshiba Satellite T -S which came pre-installed with Windows I bought it approximately years ago and since then the only problems I've had were a few random shutdowns that I might computer have as loop; broken reboot Broke well thought had to do with Windows updates A few days ago I realized that my laptop which I had put into sleep mode closed and plugged in to charge was rebooting I don't know how long it had been doing this but when I opened the laptop it didn't stop It would boot up start quot configuring updates quot and then start shutting down before Windows actually opened It did this continually until I held down the Power key to force it to shut down entirely I rebooted the computer in safe mode everything seemed okay I shut it down and then I took it to work At work I booted it up in regular mode and everything was working After work I put it in Sleep mode went home plugged it in and this morning it was again in a reboot loop But this time when I forced it to shut down and tried restarting in safe Broke reboot loop; might have broken computer as well mode it wouldn't boot up It starts to open Windows then the screen says quot Stage of Broke reboot loop; might have broken computer as well Preparing to configure Windows quot and then quot Stage of Configuring Windows Updates quot and then starts shutting down The same thing happens whether I boot up in regular or safe mode I assume that the next logical step is to do a system restore but I'm wondering if there' s any other way to get Windows to open I realized this morning that I didn't save a document I was working on yesterday I put in the memory stick but apparently got distracted and didn't actually save the document I'd rather not have to reproduce that hours' worth of work if there's another option Does anyone know what's going on with my laptop and whether it's possible for me to get in there Thanks

A:Broke reboot loop; might have broken computer as well

I'd suggest taking the system to a pro to see if they can recover your document. Get an estimate first, as it's likely to be expensive (if it's possible).

Beyond that, you'll have to boot from a operating system disk in order to see if you can access the hard drive. If you can access the hard drive, then it's going to be a problem finding the missing document (since it hasn't been saved).

Do you know if System Restore is enabled? If so, you may want to try restoring it to a point before this started - but I can't be sure that it'll retain the unsaved document.

Good luck! Post back with any other questions.

Had the lovely pop message for 2 windows updates, chose both, noticed that one said fixing internet access to some web pages, but since both were checked, ok'd the install for both.

KB831167 and KB840374.

After reboot, secure website won't load. Restored back to yesterday, upon reboot, reminded about the 2 updates again, so I figured they should be removed, no?

Still no access to secure site.

Reinstalled KB831167 since it addressed that problem.

Still no access to secure site.

I usually don't do many Windows updates, so this is really ticking me off.

I probably have about an hour to fix it before hubby gets back home, or I may be missing for awhile

Hi! I have an xps420 dell, I have the front sound and microphone jacks and the back ones like normal. Last night my headphones snapped off the metal part at the end inside the front jack and its lodged inside. So I thought NO biggy ill just use the back jacks from now on. Well the problem lies now the computer wont play ANY sound even with the back jacks. Im assumeing thats because maybe its still reading that front jack as something it can output sound through. So my question is how can i DISABLE the front jack and bypass it to the back sound jacks so that i can get sound back. Or maybe if anyone else has any ideas as to why the sounds not working anymore would be nice to. Thank you!

A:My headphones broke inside the jack and now my computer wont play sound

If you can't free the broken jack, you could just pop the side panel off of the tower and physically disconnect the front panel audio wires from the motherboard or soundcard. This should fix the problem if the broken plug is preventing audio output from the rear jacks.

What would cause my son's computer to get bumped off the web as soon as his Girlfriend goes on the web using her laptop? I have two computers at home and I can be online and surfing the web with both without any problems. I would think they are using different names for there computers, two different address. The only thing they are sharing is the router. Both have Vista, one is Ultimate, and one is Premium.

I am routinely kicked off the internet. I have a cable modem connected to a wireless router. The router works fine as I am able to connect to a neighbors wireless router but at a slow speed. My ISP says that they can connect to my modem so the signal must not be transmitting to the router. If I reset the modem and router by either unplugging or pushing the button the service is restored. The ISP's advice is to buy a new modem or rent one from them for $3.00 a month - sure.

Should I just buy a new modem?

A:Kicked Off Internet

My first question would be to my ISP about minimum signal levels. Have them tell you exactly what the minimum acceptable signal levels are. Then go to your cable modems browser interface and verify. The average cable modem should report things like:Receive/Downstream: -15dbmV to +15dbmVTransmit/Upstream: 30dbmV to 55dbmVSignal to Noise Ratio (SNR): 30dB or GreaterIf you have verified that the signal levels at the modem are good and within specifications then you may need to replace your modem. If they are not within specifications, then it is up to your ISP to bring them within range.Be (Cable Modem) SafeDa Bleepin AniMod, Animal

My mom is having trouble with MSN ISP - being kicked off the internet (disconnected) when she is writing e-mails.

I read sometime ago in PC World that there is a trick to solve that problem. Apparently, if I remember correctly, that ISPs will disconnect you when they see you inactive so probably composing and typing e-mails sends a message to them that she is not using the computer.

She is using Windows 2000 and MSN as her ISP.

Any suggestions to trick them into thinking that she is busy surfing when actually she is just typing e-mails?

Have Cricket test your line. Maybe they have some tools that can help. If all is good on there end then you can start troubleshooting your wireless setup.

I am running Windows XP and can not logon. It blinks thru "loading personal settings, to saving personal settings, to logging off personal settings". I tried entering thru safe mode and administrator and the same situation occurs. I had a tech person take the tower and he was able to run spyware, etc. which came up with nothing that would impair the system. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

I have Comcast Cable Internet & Lynksys wireless. At least 4-8 times a night, I am booted off the internet. The cable modem is fine, and all lights are a go, but I live in a condo, do you think someone is trying to hack into my encrypted connection? I don't have a landline phone, and my range is great. Could someone else's phone be screwing up my connection or someone else trying to use my internet? If it's locked up, would I get kicked off if someone is trying to get to my internet?

Thanks

A:I keep getting kicked off the internet!

could be a lot of things

cordless phone
other networks on same channel
firmware upgrade needed
dns issue

when its working try the following test and then repeat when you lose the connection - it will tell us if you can see the router and see the internet via ip numbers and hence if you have a dns issue

do other people have the same issue - or is it just you ???

ipconfig /all

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
NEXT lets see if you can get out onto the internet with both names and IP's - its possible the IP number you get back on the first test is different to the one I post {I'm in UK} so use the number you get instead of mine

------------------------------------------------
try ping the name and then the IP see below

start
run
cmd

When on the internet I once in a while get a message that my computer is trying to connect to LAN #2 and a message saying I am working offline. Click tools and uncheck working offline option, back online. This computer is only a few days old and OS is new to me. Any ideas what may cause this?
I should have added the error code was 651. In looking further I see it is a Windows 7 problem.

A:Kicked offline?

Click on the network icon and then troubleshoot problems. Try the event viewer to locate the possible problem.

A:Locking up on the net, then getting kicked off

I was on my computer and clicked on a pop-up that said Microsoft. Long story short, my anti-virus had expired ( unknown to me at the time ) and I ended up with a virus that totally shut down my computer. A friend said he did a re-install of Windows 7 without removing any of the data from my computer. My computer has been extremely slow and makes this odd double click sound when I boot it up.

I usually listen to music while working on the computer, or even let it run in the background. This is now impossible to do, as the music will freeze up within 5-10 minutes ( sometimes less ).  When I leave the site and return, the same thing happens or it totally kicks me
off the net, saying you are not connected to the internet. In which case I reboot and the process starts all over again. This also
happens with sites on the net, where no 'streaming' is involved.  ( This is my THIRD time now trying to post this message ).

I've had two different anti-virus programs installed, ran both and neither have indicated that I have a virus. I am pretty sure the
virus is still on here, I just have no idea where to start in what I know will be a very long and frustrating process.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi!

AntiVirus Issue
It's advisable to have only one antivirus software per PC as there will be a conflict within the 2 of which you have. After that you may want to scan your PC. You may try malwarebytes if you need an antivirus @this address https://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/

Windows Issue
I presume your friend just did an overlapping windows 7 installation and you still has the windows.old folder. But nevertheless, you may wish go to cmd and run sfc /scannow and see whether is there any corruption going on.

**Having a slow PC may have the following problems....

- Virus/Trojans attack
- Windows file corruption
- Low RAM

Thanks.

Hello everyone.
I have virus protection on my computer. But yesterday I was on the internet and all of the sudden I got kicked out. I went back on it and it did the same.
I was in the process of taking a test and I had to redo the whole test.
I ran a full virus scan and it is clean. I ran a system restore to the day before i had the problem and it told me unable to restore back to that day.
Please help. Should I take it in to Office depot for a look.
thanks,
ruthie

Hi, I'll be hgonest and say I'm no expert, maybe I shouldn't even reply. I'll throw in what I do know (slash) just give my opinion.

What do you mean by "kicked off the internet"? Is there a third party coming in and saying "oh no you don't" and blocking you, or do you mean that thew connection goes dead?
Also wondering where you arrived at those numbers (57 and 28). For me, to go to Control Panel - Network Connections - Local Area Connection, I see the speed is set to 10 Mbps. Now, this is cable opposed to dial; up, but I get one number, not what I want and what I get.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the speed advertised is not attainable, sort of 'in a eutopian society, this is the speed'. It just won't happen. If you hit 80% of what you are told, be happy.

The system you are using, is it fairly recent, with the NIC card in particular? I've seen people install XP on a system where it could barely hold the OS. Anything beyond looking at the wallpaper and the thing buckled.

You can get a fair bit of information by opening a command prompt (Start - Run - type in 'cmd' or 'command' - hit 'OK') and entering 'netstat -an'. That's without the quotes and a space between the t and -.

There's countless possible things that are going on, so I'll end it there ..... hope it works out.i

Hi C2J.

What browser are you using?

You're best bet is to post in the Microsoft IE Section, Or if you use firefox post a new topic under Firefox support.

A shortcut appears on my Desktop called "InstantAccess", and a new connection gets created in my Network Connections folder called "AxFreePorn". It usually boots me off of whatever connection I'm using at the time, and makes it hard to reconnect unless I restart my computer and delete the connection.

I've tried deleting the application along with its shortcut, AND the new connection it makes, but after a while, it still keeps returning.

The connection it makes dials the number, "366-0222" and nothing happens.

Please help

My two desktop iMacs and iPhone keep getting kicked off the wireless Internet. We have a modem from Time Warner and the Apple Time Machine as our router, with the Airport Express as a signal extender. We keep getting kicked off the Internet. Then in order to get back online, we must turn the wifi off and then on again - If we don't, our network doesn't even show up as an option. I know it is not the modem because we checked it with Time Warner. On the computers it shows a full signal, but on the phone, it shows fewer. Please help!

A:I keep getting kicked off the Internet!

it may be a DNS issue - do you have any PCs on the network - or all apple products

on the Router you may want to set open dns servers
see here for google open dns

I received a mod for my half-life game...Day of defeat. When I start playing the game like 5 minutes into the game I am shot out of the game all the way to the desktop, and I need to rerun the game completely to reenter internet play. What could be the problem? I'm not being booted from the server-room. It seem the program, or my computer is doing it.
