Cleaning my monitor screen

Q: Cleaning my monitor screen

A few days ago I bought some screenwipes to clean my monitor screen & iPhone screen. They worked great on my iPhone & laptop but when I did my W7 tower I felt bumps which are from un expected sneezes & would like to know if there is another way to clean that off or if I'll just have to use more than one wipe.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You just have to put some muscle into it! I had the same sneeze marks on my screen from over the years and a bit of elbow grease was the key.

I need to clean (more than dust) the screen of a Benq T903 LCD monitor. I'm unsure about using liquid solutions (alcohol, etc). Any suggestions, please?

A:Cleaning lcd monitor screen

Hi
I only used a microfiber and water (I have used city and well water) and have never had anything that didnt come off and the water only left water spots (really should use distilled water but thats not as easy to get).
My mom use to use rubbing alcohol on her laptop lcd screen and over time it became dull looking. I think it takes a layer off of the top of the screen which is suppose to help with glare.

So yea, just water and a clean microfiber cloth. No soap or anything else. If you must use something stronger than water, maybe a very diluted soap or rubbing alcohol but I have never seen the need for this, the water and time should remove everything.

If you do get the water spots, you can clean them with a dry cloth, it wont be perfect but it will be better.

Also, don't let the water run down the screen. if it goes into the case of the screen it can damage some of the electronically components, so just use a damp cloth, dont put the water onto the screen.

I have a flat screen monitor and my manual lists the do not's on cleaning but not the do's!!!

What is the best way to clean flat screen monitors????

Sorry for posting such a basic question, but we are talking about a couple of hundred pounds worth of kit))))

A:Solved: Flat screen monitor cleaning

I usually use a semi-damp cloth (not dripping wet! - squeeze all the water out) to wipe the whole thing clean once a week.
Just plain water..no soap, cleaning fluids, etc.

Do I HAVE to buy the special cleaner??? OR...is there an acceptable substitute? I am thinking a little windex on a soft cloth but I really don't know for sure. I don't want to ruin them (I have two) I haven't cleaned them before and I noticed the one I am using is lookin' a bit dusty.

A:Solved: Cleaning a flat-screen monitor

DON'T USE WINDEX!!!!

Just a damp cloth is usually adequate, followed by a dry lint free cloth. Windex contains chemicals that can be harmful to the surface finish of some screens.

I have a sleek 17inch Samsung 753DF monitor, its got a beautiful flat screen and I could go on about i forever.. but. Its very dirty! And there is no use having a sexy monitor if its all dirty I have been scared about cleaning it. I have been warned against using cleaning agents, as they may permantly damage it. I have tried just using a cloth and scrubbing it, but the marks won't come off. Is there a cleaning agent I could use that won't damage my monitor? Thanks.

A:Monitor Cleaning

You can use glass cleaner on the screen and 409 on the case without hurting anything. Just be sure to spray the cleaner on the rag and then wipe. Don't spray the cleaner directly on the monitor.

I'd just like to know if there is any safe way to clean the screen without damaging it?

Have tries all those proprietary cleaners for monitors but found the best is a few mls of cloudy ammonia a few of denatured spirit (Methylated ethyl alcohol - metho to us Aussies) and dilute to a litre with water apply with microweave or very soft cloth and the dry off - perfect for the cough spatters and grubby finger marks. Plus an almost dry application for the keyboard.

For the surround and stand some of that car interior vinyl cleaner brings it up like new and hides most small scratches can be used on cases too.

Be careful to use only slight pressure though

A:Monitor cleaning tip

I hate to rain on your parade ICit2lol but if those few mls of ammonia can ruin the pexiglass on the monitors face.
I was told in spades one day by a fellow biker at a gas station when I was cleaning the bugs off the windshield of my Harley with windex (ammonia) then looked it up after and yes it breaks down the outer layer of the pexiglass and dulls the finish. So I assume the monitor has the same pexiglass qualities as my motorcycle windshield.
I just use windex for house windows that I know are glass and not pexiglass.

Hi, Have you ever cleaned the inside of a monitor? I just bought a second hand monitor and it's covered with nicotine. I have taken the plastic cover off and I sprayed it with Pinesol inside and out.( works excellent!) I was wondering if it would be ok to spray the pinesol all over the electronic board and circuts and spray rince well with water and then allow to dry in the sun for a day or 2 before pluggin it back in again. Do you think this would be ok ? Have you ever tried this? Thanks ! Incase your wondering why I want to clean the inside, well because when the curcuit board heats up the nicotine really stinks!

A:Cleaning the inside of a monitor

Be a little more carefull. Certain parts of the monitor can electricute you. There is around 40000volts under the rubber pad on the top of the tube.

I have repaired over 50 monitors but I know the risks and how to work inside screens. I have also gotten screens out of rain storms and they still work but it is NOT a good idea to clean the boards with any liquid due to shock hazard.

A word of advice, take the plastic off, DON'T touch the boards or tube inside the monitor and clean the plastic far away from the screen, let it dry and put it back on.

If you feel you need to clean electronic components a compressed air tube should suffice. The smell is probably from flame retardant material, not necessarily the nicotene (though I don't doubt that is part of it)

Hi,

I have an LG Flatron E700SH monitor. Its around three years old. I live in a dust-ridden area. The monitor has a lot of holes for ventilation and during the last three years, a lot of dust has accumulated inside it. And I mean it, a lot(caps) really.i've seen it through the holes with a flashlight.

Is cleaning a monitor from the inside advisable. it says in the manual that its not. what do the esteemed members of techguy think bout this?

Plz give me tips for this clean-up or point to relevant sites.(I searched google for "clean monitor inside" and it gave me results such as one for a dog screensaver where a dog cleans your monitor screen from the inside by licking it )

Thanx for reading this and thanx again if u r willing to help.

A glass monitor surface can be cleaned like any glass window, but
how do you clean an LCD monitor's surface?

Buy one of LCD cleaning kits with LCD brush and spray thing they clean LCD's really well. Get a non abrasive cloth (not tissue) with some water or alcohol solution (non corrosive eg Ammonium in most window sprays).

A:Which monitor cleaning solution is recomended?

Hmmm

For a very delicate clean id suggest 1 tiny drop of house hold dish soap to about 16 oz of warm water. It is really mild cleaning solution that is very effective on removing light grease and grim yet almost totally harmless.

A tip is to fill the spray bottle full of water first, then ad the dish soap. (Otherwise you get a ton of foam) then swirl the bottle around until you see a few bubbles start to foarm at the top then your ready to go.

The cloth should be as soft as possible. NO PAPER TOWL !!!

Other than that it should be fine....

Also a diluted amount of windex should do the trick also....Id say 1 part windex to 10 parts water.....

But the Dish Soap will be the most gentlest.

A:cleaning sony vaio x-black monitor

Use an old soft cotton T-shirt slightly repeat slightly dampened with plain water. do not use anything like Windex or glass plus on it. If the smudges are stubborn, you can mak a mixture of about 5 parts water to 1 part vinegar to dampen the cloth slightly.

We cleaned the screen of our LCD monitor with a Fellows wet screen cleaning wipe without turning off the monitor. Now all the white colored letters as well as some black letters are tinged with a pink color. We have tried rebooting as well as turning off the monitor to no avail. Is there a way to fix this? Thankyou.

A:Font tinged with pink after cleaning monitor

Don't know about Fellows cleaners, I just use a damp cloth then dry it with a lint free one. (coffee filters make great lint free cleaning things)
LCD screens have a special treating on them so we need to be careful in using any cleaners because of that. (same with LCD TVs.)

A:Getting Conflicting Advice on Cleaning A Computer Monitor

Jack,

You repeated the same error in your second post. However, you could simply click on the Edit button and correct your original post.

I've never had to use anything other than water and a microfiber cloth (only slightly damp, not soaking wet). It's best to use distilled water and according to this article you can mix it 50/50 with white vinegar if necessary:

http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-a-Laptop-Screen-with-Household-Products

It's important not to spray anything directly on the screen but simply dampen your cloth slightly and Windex or any other window cleaner is a no-no.

You know, it is not easy to say what the problem may be.

Hi,
After uninstalling and cleaning with the driver cleaner pro the drivers for my new ATI Sapphire HD 3650 AGP graphics card I restarted the PC only to get a black screen after the windows xp splash screen. I used the card for about a day, but had a problem with freezeing and decided to install older drivers. Now here's the problem. I can not boot in normal, safe, agp or any other mode. I tried it all a couple of time but still get the black screen. I have tried with the windows cd, and tried to repair, reinstall, format and reinstall my Windows xp but again with the same result. I have changed the card for my old one but still the same problem. Since everything was fine (except for freezing) for about a day I assume that it is not a hardware problem.
I would use some help right about now.
Thank you.

I have reset the TV to factory default the only way I know how (owners manual). I have unplugged the power cable to the TV for 10 min+. I have changed from a 14 pin VGA to a 15 pin. I have updated all drivers.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

A:1 monitor (Phillips 32" flat screen), 2 laptops, only 1 laptop detected by monitor

It appears this one has got them all stumped. I really need help with this one and I am at a total loss. I would be forever in someones debt.

Could it be that the TV has a capacitor that holds the settings for an extended period of time? Maybe I should leave it unplugged for 24-48 hours?

Hi guys,

I have a really annoying problem... I have a dual screen set up on my desktop pc, and when I open a video in any media player and move it to my secondary monitor, it automatically plays full screen on my primary monitor as well!!

It's been going on for a while now, but just thought I'd actually see if anyone can help me!

I'm running win xp pro sp 3 and my video card is ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro... does that help?

Anyway, is there a setting somewhere that I need to address??

please help!

Jay

A:Playing videos on second monitor automatically plays full screen on primary monitor

Have you tried installing the lastest drivers? And is the second monitor spanned or cloned? I don't know here to tell you to look as I'm an nVidia guy...haven't used ATI in years.

A:Solved: Can't install monitor drivers for AOC flat screen monitor

Additional monitor drivers are usual not needed. What do you have for a video adapter and are those drivers installed? Right click on My Computer choose Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. What information is listed under Video Adapters?
Also what are your screen resolution and refresh settings?

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen.
My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080?
My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200.

Just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and I have notice a loss of settings on the screen saver. My photo screen saver now just sits between the 2 monitors, where as on XP it went from one monitor to the other, then on to the next picture. Is there any kind modification for this? I would even settle for the photo just coming up on both monitors. Sure hope they bring this function back in Win 10. Slim

A member on Bleepingcomputers.com solved this issue for me. Required using an uninstall provided by Logitech for their Desktop Messenger program, which they have discontinued. FYI, the uninstall is located here: http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13853/~/uninstalling-logitech-desktop-messenger-%28ldm%29#LDM This solved the error message on start-up and appears to have solved the graphics card crash screen (vertical stripes on monitor issue).

I have 2 monitors set up,

Primary: Samsung Syncmaster 19 Inch widesreen 1400 * 900
Secondary: LG E2541 25 Inch Widescreen 1980 * 1080
OS: Windows 7 64bit
VideoCard: Nvidia Geforce 560 Ti

I use my primary mostly for browsing, msn, music players, Ventrilo etc etc,
I want to use my secondary Monitor for gaming Watching Videos.

However, when i want to use something Full screen on my secondary monitor it goes full screen on the primary monitor.
I cant also run it in windowed mode and stretch it out to full screen, it does not allow me to do that, it goes back to the size of my primary Monitor.

Is there an Way to achieve this?

Ps.
I want this since i play mostly with fullscreen borderless or in windowed mode so i can still browse the internet or adjust music/ventrillo settings.
I dont want to have an Taskbar below the game, so thats why i need it on the Second Monitor.

greetings Eir

A:Dual screen, unable to full screen on second monitor

Hi welcome to Seven Forums

I am not sure what you are trying to do, the primary monitor (usually the largest) is for gaming and the secondary is for extras.

You say you want to play games full screen on your secondary monitor? Why not reverse the screens so the larger monitor is primary and the secondary is the smaller. Then your games and movies will still be running fine on the large monitor and your web browser, explorer, email ect. is on the smaller monitor.

"I dont want to have an Taskbar below the game, so thats why i need it on the Second Monitor." If the game is full screen the taskbar shouldn't be showing or if you still want to have the screen in a window, use the 'Auto-hide the taskbar' option so it disappears when not in use.

N.B - I have 2 different screens with the same resolutions as yours, using the 560ti and it works fine.

Is there such a thing as software to move a window from one monitor to another I had this feature on my old computer which had ATI software I think I could right click on the name of the folder in my toolbar and a menu would pop up asking if I wanted to move it to monitor as well as move it to monitor This came in very handy at times but my new GIGABYTE GeForce LE video card didn t come with this option I m wondering if it has to come from the company that created the card dual screen moving screen to monitor from or could be done with other software Also is there a dual monitor moving from screen to screen shortcut key in windows XP to move a folder What I am dealing with is this morning I tried to open My Documents and it had apparently been on the monitor when I shut windows down last night For some reason the monitor would not come on this morning Never happened before I couldn t get My Documents to move to my monitor I went to the web site for the video card to see if they had software available to move items from one screen to the other and found they had new BIOS for the card I downloaded them and it rebooted my computer At that time the monitor came on but I m not sure what the problem was in the first place I would like to be prepared if something like this should happen again Thanks Peg nbsp

I have a Gateway FPD1510, and all of a sudden the screen flickered and turned really dim... Should I check the video card or power source? When I restart the computer, the picture is normal for a second then it turns back dim to the point where I can hardly see what is on the screen.

Computer sleeping, I hit the space bar. Screen comes up but there is about one and a half inches to the right of the screen that duplicates the left side and one and a half inches at the bottom (below task bar) that duplpicates the top part of the screen.
Being a beginner, I have no idea where to start. This just happened in the last hour.

I reinstalled the operating system. Have gotten all updates and installed programs. Changed screen resolution to 1024 x 768. Now the screen picture is rounded on the sides. I looked up "Appearance and Themes". It says it is working properly. Also "no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device." I just want to make the sides of the screen straight, not curved. Do I have to change resolution back to 800 x 600? IT is working fine otherwise.

it's probably your monitor's own adjustment buttons that are on the montior.

My wife is using a HP net book & something has happened to her screen.

It's a little hard to explain but Her browser only covers about 3/4 of the monitor & there is also a partial top of the same browser at the lower part of the monitor.

I would take a screen shot of the whole monitor to show this but I am unable to do so because her curser will only go as far as the browser. So I drew an example what we are seeing & will insert here.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions to correct this!

A:Can my monitor be used as a TV screen?

This might be the easiest method. Can I watch Freeview on my computer (PC)?Freeview is not broadcast over the internet, but you can use your computer screen like a television screen using a USB tuner, a PCI card or buying a PC with Freeview built-in.USB TV Tuner plugs into a USB port on your computer and converts the digital signal you receive through the TV aerial into a format that your PC's media player can play on screen. You can receive all the Freeview channels but may not be able to receive the interactive services. http://www.freeview.co.uk/Features/2011/All-about-USB-TV-Tuners/If you live in an area that receives Freeview HD, there is now a USB TV Tuner that can receive the Freeview HD signal. For this, your computer must have a HD screen or a HDMI output that will allow you to connect your HDTV to enjoy full high definition TV. For more info, visit the PCTV website . All about... USB TV Tuners http://www.freeview.co.uk/Features/2011/All-about-USB-TV-Tuners/USB Digital TV Sticks start from around ?20 and can be bought from many UK retailers including Amazon, Maplin and John Lewis. For more information on USB TV Tuners, visit our friends at What Sat for a comprehensive review of current models.I looked at SCART to VGA or DVI and they generally only worked in special circumstances.I'd get the USB tuner and be done with it. Just check to be sure your Computer meets the hardware specifications needed. Good LuckRoger

Hi and welcome to TSG.

If it is two different levels of brightness that does not have a sharp edge between the levels, it may be due to a failure of one of the back light CCFL tubes or the inverter driving it.

A:How do I clean my screen monitor?

For exterior dirt, smudges, etc this is the official Toshiba suggested way to clean a laptop screen. I'm sure it will work for any brand laptop.

How to properly clean your laptop | Research Center | Toshiba

But what you photographed might be LCD "bruising". This is a permanent, superficially discolored (light or dark) area on the back side of an LCD panel often caused by heat stress and/or excessive pressure and possible excessive force (being hit, dropped etc) damaging the LCD cells. This damage can't be repaired and is there for the life of the panel. I guess another possibility is that there was condensation of some sort on the inside surface of the panel 'glass' that has subsequently dried out leaving behind water spots. This is usually not repairable either; you'd have to dismantle the LCD panel and this may not be possible.

Sorry for not having a better answer.

For months now, there are these marks on my HD Monitor screen. It looks like the outer layer being...peeled. It's fine and I don't notice it when I look at it at an angle, but straight forward, they're small, but noticeable. I attached a 2-in-1 image from my camera on these things from my screen. Please take a look. Thank you.

A:My HD Monitor: what are these marks on my screen?

What kind of HD monitor do you have? Do you use any screen savers? Two possible answers come to mind, one is that it could be some pixels that have burnt out or gone bad. The other is an image burn in from leaving the monitor on for long periods of time. Other than that I have no other answers for you.

If the monitor is still under warranty, you could call and probably get it exchanged.

I'm wondering if having it plugged into the video card will put extra stress on it and make it not run as good? And how come the other plug in doesn't work now?

I am in need of a new monitor. I am thinking of a 20 or 22 inch wide screen, but my wife and I only use the PC for web surfing and E-Bay transactions(buying and selling). Is there any advantage or disadvantage for a wide screen for this use? Due to poor eyesight I currently run my 17" CRT at 800x600,with large fonts, but this limits the amount of data I can display.

A:Need new monitor Wide Screen or not?

The bigger the screen the more stuff you can display, obviously, but the downside with LCDs is that they can look distorted and blurry if they aren't displayed at the native resolution. This means that if you want to avoid the blurryness and distortion you must run it at the appropriate high resolution. This won't cause too much of a problem if you don't play high-end games, but if you do then you need to make sure you buy a nice GPU or else you have to choose between poor performance or blurryness and distortion. You may be able to find an LCD that looks fine at a lower than native resolution, but it totally depends on the monitor. You may also be able to play games at lower resolutions by not using the entire screen, but I think this depends on if your GPU supports it. If you're worried about fonts being too small, you can always increase the font size. In web browsers it's as simple as ctrl + mouse wheel scroll.

Unless your monitor is failing you don't 'need' a new one. It's all about want. If you want a new one then get one, if not then don't. For Gaming I suggest 2-5ms response time, 3000:1 contrast ratio (or higher), and for just web browsing I feel that nearly any response time and contrast ratio provides acceptable quality, though you may want to look for at least 1000:1 contrast ratio since you have less than perfect vision. The main thing to look for is a 3 year (or more) parts and labor warranty and a low limit on dead pixels for it to be considered defective (mine is 8). I would not suggest buying any monitor without a 3 year parts and labor warranty (unless you're planning on destroying for some reason), because if it isn't 3, then it is usually only 1. One year isn't long enough to prove it is quality built, especially if you don't use your computer often. In most cases, if it lasted 3 years it shouldn't have any problem lasting 3 more.

And yes, buy widescreen. No question about it. Widescreen gives you much, much better viewable area/cost ratio. The only real disadvantage is that all the view area isn't vertical, so you probably wont be able to make use of it while web browsing. You might be able to find a widescreen LCD that you can actually turn vertical so you get all that extra vertical space. I've never bothered to check since I game and it's nice to have a wider view. Maybe I'll check after work though, since that would be a good thing to know if it's possible.

Hello,

I'm not sure if that is possible. You can try physically switching ports on your video card (just switch the cables around). Then you can change which monitor is primary in Screen Resolution.
