Preferred Solution: 50% Speed Loss with WIFI ???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Had D-link and got sick of the problems. Went with Belkin router and PC Card.
Ran great for a month...............then it all went to hell.
I have a 5 meg cable conx and I lose at least 50-70% of speed with WIFI.

Running XP . Are there any configuration settings I'm missing?
I was letting Belking manage the connection but that was killing my CPU , so I went back to letting Windows run it. Seemed to have helped, but my CPU is still sluggish..........slow opening browsers. Streaming is fine.............conex stable.
Cursor sticky and slow.

problem as above - every couple of weeks or so my internet slows to a snails pace, it usually lasts for 3 or 4 days then its back on full speed again, really cant figure this one out!

Ive released ip and flushed dns!

my ping is always around 10ms and my upload is always around 4mb which are both quite stable, but its my download speed what bothers me 0.1mbs at its slowest and 60mbs when its running good

what should I do next?

I have two computers connected through a netgear router with dsl, I have always had download speeds of about 4.7mbps, I recently changed to cable modem road runner,(better dea) since speed and security are factors important to me i enabled my WEP for my wireless laptop but noticed that my download speeds dropped dramatically to 130kps on both the desktop and laptop simultaneously, now considering I have not changed anything but dsl to cable modem. My question is that is this normal, i have the encryption set at 64bits i know there is normally a lag with the transfer but i did not think it would be this bad...when i disable the WEP i do a speed check using speekeasy and it goes back to about 4.7mbps...any ideas would appreciated.

I recently had to relocate my router to have a wired connection in the house then returned it to where it was after the project was finished My laptop lost a lot of connection speed that didn't affect speed anyone loss? Can explain this the other computers on our network I had been getting quot same IP address being used quot errors on it during the project I was doing so I thought it was responsible When the problem persisted even after everything was set back as before I rolled it back to its last image but the speed remained less than half usual It seemed like the only cause could be a failing wireless adapter since the other computers on the network remained at the same speed As a last resort I clean reinstalled and now the laptop has regained all of its original speed Does anyone have an idea what could have caused this since the problem persisted even after reimaging but corrected after clean reinstall

A:Can anyone explain this speed loss?

I used to have this error on two netbooks at the same time:

Quote:
same IP address being used

Can't remember what I did to fix it.

I think I tried resetting the computer and router and removing it from Manage Wireless Networks.

Hello all For Christmas I got the family a new belkin router that should knock the socks off our old linksys g Today I wanted to copy a file to the usb drive I had attached to it and was dismayed to find it copying at about Megabytes per second from my Gigabit connected desktop Figuring it could be that Belkin s usb thing was poor I set out to run some tests Connecting My desktop directly to a laptop via ethernet produces speeds hovering around Megabytes per second connecting the laptop and desktop to the Loss? Router Speed router and performing the transfer results in speeds around Megabytes Router Speed Loss? per second It was my impression that Gigabit ports meant that it could transfer data throughout the network at gigabit speeds am I incorrect Sending the file via wireless g results in speeds of around - Megabytes per second which once again seems a tad slow I also know that MB s is awfully close to ye olde standard of Megabits per second so I assume there could be some sort of problem there Any help would be appreciated streaming HD movies as well as transferring HD movies throughout the house would be a whole lot better with some more bandwidth Thanks nbsp

A:Router Speed Loss?

You still have the bottleneck of USB to contend with. Share a USB drive connected directly to your computer and see how fast the file transfers are.

For about 1 or 2 days -.- Then it went to it's same position again, a low speed internet. My package grants me 10mb/s and in my isp speedtest it gives my the 9.75 mb/s of download speed it should give and a lame 0.20 mb/s of upload speed. The thing is that when im downloading stuff, it gives me a speed of like 67kb/s, when it should give me from 600kb/s to 1mb/s. I dont know if it can be the modem or the router but one thing is granted, im losing allot of internet speed. My modem is the ARRIS Touchstone TM502G and my router is the SMCWBR14S-N2.
The house internet is used by 3-4 people, but only 2 of them require more internet, because of the online games. Even though only mine requires more, because the other's games I dont think it requires too much bandwith.

What should or can I do to fix this please? If you need any more information please tell me.

Thanks

would you by chance be downloading from a torrent site? Or perhaps using homegroup for networking?

Your ISP rates your connection @ 10 Mb and speedtest shows 9.75 as advertised. The upload speed is a little low but not much. Have you tried speed tests when the others are online gaming, and when they arent?

I tested my computer at pcpitstop.com and it say that my uncashed speed is low it went from 3.2 to 1 mb per sec. I have done all that they suggested to and it is still the same . can anyone help me please thank you.

A:loss of uncashed speed

Clean and defrag your hard drive. That 60 gig hd most likely has a bunch of stuff on it and if it's fragmented it will slow your uncached speed.

Hello all new to these forums go easy on me I checked the Networking forum and couldn t find anything that answers my query but if I have missed something I apologise I m with Virgin Media in the UK and I am paying for a MB service Strange speed loss.. I have the F- D Belkin router and I am using a Strange speed loss.. Belkin Mbps Network card The speed shown when I hover the mouse over Strange speed loss.. the network icon in the taskbar varies considerably I used to have a constant Mbps with a Very Good Excellent signal strength For the last week the speed has dropped from to to and sometimes to Mbps yet the signal strength remains at Very Good or Excellent On my router s configuration page I have experimented with different WiFi channels different G modes G-Auto G-Only G-LRS Turbo Framebursting mode on Strange speed loss.. off and the Protected mode on off After any changes the speed is back at Mbps yet after minutes it starts to fluctuate constantly The problem first came to my attention when I loaded up an online game I play regularly I stick to the same server which is based in the UK so providing me with good ping Yet in the last week my ping has risen from - to anything from - I am a regular gamer and these differences may not sound a lot but they affect my play considerably My provider has noticed no problems yet when I do speed tests I get very mixed results ranging from to of a normal MB connection What can I do Thanks Drakky nbsp

Hey there guys.

Basically all of a sudden my computer has started to dramatically slow down randomly.

It seems to be happening when I do something a little heavy like rendering, but generally doesn't go away and I'm forced to turn off my computer. If I try to ctrl-alt-delete to check mem usage I get an error saying it couldn't open. I have used this pc for a long time and it has always worked fine. I re-installed windows hoping this would help but it hasn't, leaving me to think its some kind of hardware error.

Please help

A:Sudden speed loss

what make of laptop is it???
has it got onboard diagnostics...i would run a hard drive test
you can use a program like seatools to test the health of the hard drive
also reseat the RAM, if there are two DIMMS try them one at a time to see the results
maybe resetting the BIOS to defaults might help

Hi, I am experiencing this problem and thought it probably caused by having an oldish laptop with limited resources.- 2GB memory Only way I have found to resume using the Internet is by restarting the laptop. However seems the problem is widespread. and MS have yet to overcome. See:-http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/for....When failure occurs, hovering over the Wifi Icon, it displays 'Internet not connected, No connections available'. They are, because 'er indoors is using.without problem. Have tried various suggestion such as reducing the MTU, to no avail.Router is modern.Anyone else experiencing this, or have thoughts on how to overcome. Regards - Mike

A:W10 Loss of WIfi

Hi MikeI think there have been some Wifi issues with Win 10 and maybe we are still not out of the wood. However I would try these old chestnuts which can still be known to get you out of trouble:1. Discharge the motherboard components. Turn off computer, remove power cord (and main battery too if it is a laptop). Hold Power Off/On button in for at least 20 seconds before powering up again. It can "unstick" things at odd times.2. Power Off the router for about half a minute. Surprisingly I have found this can fix issues which do not affect every device on the network.3. Go to Device Manager and search for new drivers. Also worth checking on the official driver website.4. Uninstall Wifi driver from Device Manager but DO NOT let it remove "software" if it asks. Restart and let it find new hardware which will set the software up afresh.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I seem to have connectivity loss on a regular basis with Win 7. It seems to loos connection to the network. I have experience this on two different computers with Win 7...anyone else having this problem?

A:WiFi connectivity loss - Win 7?

I did recently and discovered it was my telephone cabling.

I have 5 telephone sockets in my apartment and my wireless router was connected to the one the furthest away from the main incoming socket and was experiencing lost connections on a daily basis.

I moved my router to the first socket connected to my outside telephone line around ten days ago and since then have not experienced one dropped connection.

At first, when I checked this on this new rig, file transfers ran between 60-100 mbps, but the last several times it has dropped off to 1-2 mbps. I checked the drive involved with HD Tune, and it performed about the same as it did on the first test, so I don't think that it is a hardware problem. Nothing else was running that should slow things down, so what else could account for this?

This is Of Random WiFi Loss Connection a new problem in that it has only happened a couple of Random Loss Of WiFi Connection times over the past two days Random Loss Of WiFi Connection but considering it's previous stability I'm concerned of an impending total failure On Random Loss Of WiFi Connection these occasions while watching Hulu on my HTPC which only connects via WiFi on my Router Cisco E the movies were interrupted by a loss of connection indicated by the white tray icon turning orange and when expanding it's menu the connection bearing the name of my network had disappeared On the first failure the flashing light on the network adapter Belkin F D continued flashing as usual but the steady light was out until pressing the connection button The second time around both light remained lit as normal but in both instances my network connection on the network adapter's tray icon had disappeared Using the WiFi's network adapter's connection button and the router's PBC button didn't solve the problem nor anything else that I tried Since the WiFI connection is primarily for internet access rather than connecting computers and that shutting off my desktop doesn't usually effect the HTPC's internet connection it seems obvious that the connection is managed by just the router adapter and HTPC so I fail to understand the relationship between the vanishing network and the loss of internet connection When these failures occurred they only lasted for - minutes and then were restored on their own with no more apparent reason than the outage had So far this is only an annoyance but I fear that it is an omen of greater problems on the horizon and I have no idea of how to isolate the origin of the problem does anyone else

A:Random Loss Of WiFi Connection

I got a similar problem I think...whenever I do some browsing on the Internet or play games the connection just cuts off and comes back in a few minutes...does yours show 'No Internet Access'? Coz mine does it's seriously annoying it's been going on for over 2 weeks now >.>...happens with the other computers as well so I think it's a problem with the router.

A:Intermittent loss of wifi connection

you do not mention which version of drivers you are using, nor the BIOS. I would encourage you to install and run SDM (Softpaq Download Manager - www.hp.com/go/sdm) to see what it says about drivers available to be updated and/or BIOS. SDM can then install them for you. BIOS must be installed by itself. It is always possible that a Wifi driver might have issues with new hardware but initial troubleshooting needs to be done When running SDM, only install drivers and/or BIOS. Any other software should be updated ONLY if you are using any of it

All right this one might be a doozy but I m confident that you guys can help me out I just spent a good - minutes reading some of the threads here and I think I ve found the right place to take my problem I ve seen some threads with problems similar to mine but I wanted to ask my own question so that any advice I get is specifically based on my problem So here goes About a month and a half ago we finally moved into the present and got a high-speed internet connection through Comcast who also gives us cable television For the first several days the frequent connection (comcast high-speed) loss connection worked fine with no problems but then it started to happen the modem started to lose the connection intermittently The lights on the modem a Motorola frequent connection loss (comcast high-speed) SURFboard would start to flash Usually the ONLINE light goes off and the SEND light flashes but sometimes both of them go off and the RECEIVE light flashes The POWER and PC ACTIVITY lights wouldn t change Sometimes the connection problems would happen with all of the lights working properly When it first started to happen I just jiggled the cable wire a little bit the wire connected to the modem is an extremely long one that connects the modem to a splitter which connects to the main cable line the other wire that runs from the splitter goes to my TV and the connection would back After that worked a couple of times though the problem would return and then my method wouldn t work that well anymore It got to be very frustrating too as the connection would start to die out early in the morning around AM central time and not come back much at all until later sometimes as late as PM and being a TV junkie I like to watch full episodes of newer and older shows so the random connection cut-outs would sometimes occur right in the middle of a video But anyway the connection problems were starting to happen every day sometimes for just a little while maybe five or ten minutes but sometimes for a long long time the AM- PM situations I started to poke around online whenever I could connect for some solutions and started to unplug the power cord I d unplug the cord from the modem while keeping the cord in the socket whenever I d lose the connection and that worked and sometimes still works a good bit depending on how long I left the cord unplugged which depended on how anxious I was to watch quot Nanny and the Professor quot or quot Beverly Hills quot or whatever I would be in the mood for lol After talking to some friends I discovered that I was doing something horribly wrong I d put the modem on quot standby quot whenever I wasn t using the internet Everyone I spoke to said that they had never had the types of problems I was having and that they d never even touched the standby button So naturally touching the standby button was now a total no-no for me and I never even thought of touching it again And voila the connection problems stopped for a good while several days of no problems But then they were back just as they d been before doing the same old thing Only now though it wasn t an everyday thing there d be maybe two or three days that were problem-free but the problems would always return More poking around took place and I found out about the whole command prompt quot ipconfig all quot thing and how to see if the IP address is good or no good Whenever the connection worked well the IP would expire in several days but whenever it was dead the IP would expire in literally seconds sometimes a minute before I even brought up the cmd screen Sometimes just bringing up that screen would make the connection work but still it d have the same old problems Let me add here that my suspiscion all along has been that the modem is faulty the woman at Comcast seemed to just pull it from under the counter and examining it I ve seen some small cracks on it But given that when the connection is working it works amazingly well and very fast I don t know if it ... Greetings,

As of last night, I've been experiencing 100% packet loss every few sec/mins with my current WIFI connection. My connection has been alright for a month straight, but it was acting up again yesterday.

No matter what I'm doing, let it be gaming, browsing the internet, watching streams, even when I'm doing nothing, and etc., I keep on getting packet loss.

I've already tried updating my win7 with the latest live updates, turned off my firewall, scanned for malware/viruses, defragged all my drives, used a VPN, and much more, but no joy.

I really want to know if it's either the router or my laptop that's have issues.

Attached to this thread is my dxdiag, but do I also need to post my msinfo and tracert info for more clarification on what's going on?

Thanks.

I have just read through a thread dated 15.02.09 about a sudden loss of WiFi connectivity. It is similar to what I am attempting to resolve. It seems that after the Microsoft up-dates on 15th or 16th Feb the WiFi connectivity was affected. I am running a Netgear router on an XP machine with a remote Vista machine. The remote Vista machine can access the internet. The XP machine can access the internet. The LAN is connected and both machines appear on the network but access to the either machine is denied. Any suggestions to help resove this situation or interrogate the system?

Looking forward to speaking to someone soon.

A:Constant 100% packet loss with WIFI connection!

It's MUCH WORSE when I play any online games, especially wow.

I've already tried updating my win7 with the latest live updates, turned off my firewall, scanned for malware/viruses, defragged all my drives, used a VPN, and much more, but no joy.

I really want to know if it's either the router or my laptop that's have issues.

I got a:

PCI-E Wireless 802.11n 150Mbps Network Interface Card

So It somewhat works but only a 2 MBPS download speed I know that my wireless network gives off 30 MBPS as my old external wireless USB was getting, but that is broke.

With that broke all I have left is the internal card with slow speed, Unable to render youtube in HD.

Windows shows the internal card has a strong connection of full bars but still slow speed.

Tried updating drivers for it through device manager but none available, So why is it so slow?

P.S. There is room for 2 antennas but having the 2 in makes no difference as It still works with 1, strange.

Hi there. I'm new to this site. About 3 days ago, I was searching the Internet just fine and then all of a sudden my Internet went out. I thought it was strange so I made sure it wasn't my Internet connection, which it wasn't because my wifi was still on my phone (that's where I'm submitting this post now! ) Ever since Friday I have been trying to connect back to the Internet with no luck. Sometimes when I restart my computer it'll connect to my wifi but then it'll randomly disconnect again and refuses to get back on again. PLEASE HELP!! As far as I know, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a Dell Studio 1555

Can you successfully connect by ethernet? If not, do you have another computer you can use for downloading files or for posting more information than you'll want to type on a phone?

A:Solved: WIFI connection loss every couple of seconds

change the channel on the router to use wireless channel 1 - just in case its interference - unlikely - but you do have another weaker signal also on channel 6 an 8 also overlaps

can we see an ipconfig /all from the other PC and the Vaio

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Is the wireless switch the normal Dell Fn + F2? If the wireless LED doesn't go on the adapter, or a portion of the motherboard, is probably dead. It could also be a bad switch, but this is less likely if the switch is a key combination.

A:Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after Win 8 upgrade - cannot turn WiFi on/off

> So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
First of all you can enable and disable the WiFi using function key but you can also enable the WLan in Windows 8 settings
Win key + C -> Settings -> Change PC settings -> Wireless

Now you can use the wireless devices slider to enable or disable the WLan.

But to get the FN key working you have to install the +Toshiba Function Key Utility+ for Win 8 and +Toshiba System Driver+ for Win 8

Hi Guys,
Have an issue with my internet speed, I am currently subscribed with an ISP for 60Mb/s Connection and I can only get that speed via cable over wifi it goes down to 26Mb/s, after I called my ISP they told me I had to buy some other wifi device that extendes my signal and is able to transmit more then 26MB/s so I bought a NetGear EX6100 Wifi Range Extender and set it up as an access point on the 5GHz channel it is currently connected via cable with the ISP Router but still im only getting 26Mb/s.
Im stuck what did I do wrong ???

A:Wifi Speed

My cable service plan is for 150 Mbps download.

I get 150 - 170 Mbps on ethernet and 30 - 50 Mbps on wireless.

I've tweaked my wireless connection as much as I can and still get the much slower speed.

It's still fast enough for my needs, so I've learned to live with it.

Hi,

I have one of these wireless cards Asus WL-138g v2 and I have it running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit the card stays connected but is painfully slow when downloading and using the internet. I have tried a collection of different drivers removed anti virus software, disabled all start up items and services but this does not solve the issue. The only thing I have found so far that does solve this problem is to boot into safe mode and then it works fine and is not slow at all. Anyone have any ideas on what might cause this issue?

THanks

A:Slow Wifi Speed

As always check to make sure you have the most up to date driver from Asus. Also check and/or disable any software firewall that may be negatively affecting the connection.

Another thought that comes to mind is... what are you connecting to with this wifi card? Is this your own network, or? What is the signal strength of this connection? Screenshots may be helpful here.

Hey,

my wifi seems very slow under Windows 8 and is acting like its been "capped" by something.

When running Windows 7, I was getting approx 60MB actually download rate off of my apparent 120MB Virgin Media service, now that I am on Windows 8 it appears to be running at 20MB.

The drivers have been updated to the one that was on the manufacturers website, before the update was applied my download was capped at 1MB.

Does something need changing / tweaking on Windows 8 to make it more friendly to high speed broadband?

Cheers

Hi all, I am using windows 8 in my laptop and Ubuntu in my desktop PC. In the desktop, I used to browse the internet by connecting LAN cable. and using WiFi on my laptop. I am using Acanac's unlimited internet plans in Quebec. The browsing speed is comparatively high in Ubuntu than windows 8. Is there any mechanism to boost the browsing speed in windows 8? I am not very familiar with Ubuntu. Most of the times I use my laptop to browse. If you have any solution, please put it here.

hi guys, is there a way to increase wifi speed to make i go fast like a cable connection?

any surgestions would be good?

A:is there a way to increase wifi speed?

Hi there

1)Your Router needs to support the new Wireless-N standard up to 600 mbs from the presemt 54 mbs (WIRELESS-G).

2) Your Wireless card need to support it too.

Wireless-N routers are a bit more expensive -- and the problem is that if you are using a Laptop it's not easy to change the wireless chip so you'll have to use an external USB Wireless-N card -- also not cheap.

I don't think there will be too many PUBLIC WI FI places that will have wireless -n system for ages yet so you are stuck with wireless g @ 54 MBS max.

If you are on a shared wireless connection then the number of users will also slow it down -- especially if you have a load of users such as in a Hotel downloading Music / streaming audio into their hotel rooms etc.

Here's a wiki on Wireless-n (do further research as always with wiki).

Welcome to TSG!

Sorry to say that's all you'll get with 802.11 g. The 54Mbits/sec is the maximum physical layer bit rate. Actual throughput will be around 24 Mbits/sec Max.

Only way to "fix" it is to upgrade to 802.11 n.

I have an 802.11 n setup which connects at 130 Mbits/sec, but the Max throughput is around 60-65 Mbits/sec.

Hello I have a high-speed Internet connection at home The main computer is connected through an Ethernet cable off a cable-modem and both the download and upload speeds are excellent just as the ISP claims it to be Then the afore-mentioned cable-modem is linked to my Mbps TP-Link WR ND router so that I can get Wi-Fi on my iPhone Internet WiFi Speed Home I have been running several Internet speed Home WiFi Internet Speed tests and the download speed just won't go any higher than Mbps Upload speed is perfectly fine Gone through some tutorials and then all the settings on the router and everything is fine Plus the iPhone is designed for Wi-Fi ultra-high speeds well over Mbps Am I missing something How come I cannot get any more speed When I do the tests the phone Home WiFi Internet Speed is just centimetres away from the router so there's no walls objects or anything that may slow things down by over as it is the case What can I do Is there any possibilities of getting at least of the maximum speed

A:Home WiFi Internet Speed

This really isn't a Windows 8 issue , you will need to ask in the TP-Link support area/forums to see how you can change your wifi channels etc to maximise your throughput.

I can say that under normal use you will never get 300 Mbs using wifi , the network overheads and more will reduce that to 180-200Mbs maximum , 300 is a very idealised figure.

As for iPhone 5 , I do remember there were issues with wifi speeds , binarytoad details the issue here iPhone 5 Slow Wifi Fix (workaround) - YouTube

Here USB vs WiFi comparison sustained speed s my setup In my bedroom I have my modem wireless router Netgear WGR v and my desktop computer which has a large HDD with all my movies TV shows and music In my living room I have my Xbox and new device I just recently installed PBO Patriot Box Office Core Media Player The media player has ports for USB and ethernet hard drive connections Basically what I m looking for is a way to convert the wireless signal in my living room into a physical connection ethernet cable which I can plug into my USB vs WiFi sustained speed comparison PBO and watch high def p resolution videos from my desktop I know that a USB wifi adapter would be simpler but there s one thing I m trying to determine before I buy bottlenecking I crunched the numbers not quite sure how USB vs WiFi sustained speed comparison accurately mind you haha and here s what I saw - a recent bandwidth test using my desktop reported my upload speed around kpbs KB s whereas the sustained speed of USB is reportedly anywhere from MB s to MB s way higher Does this mean that USB s top potential sustained transfer rate is being bottlenecked by my internet connection speed Are my numbers helpful accurate at all Any input is much appreciated nbsp

A:USB vs WiFi sustained speed comparison

USB device will always be limited to the bandwidth of the port. You can't make the wireless go faster than it's rated bandwidth either. The USB will not be bottlenecked, it will take whatever comes in up to it's rated bandwidth.

A:WiFi Speed reduction with Windows 10

I just upgraded a friend's laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Home and with Windows 10 Home it was getting 10-25 Mbps. The temporary fix was to connect the laptop to an Ethernet cable. I told the owner to contact their ISP and get a better modem. I hope it is not Windows 10 Home that is causing this problem.

Maybe this problem is caused by interference? I did notice that the laptop was getting much stronger signals from the neighbours which are much further away than this cable modem.

is it settings in my adapter? I have Qos totally unchecked and turned off in advanced adapter settings..

Welcome to Seven Forums,

You may fiddle the wireless mode setting of your router. If your router is a modern one that supports N, usually by default it's on Mixed Mode, change it to an G/N or N. Depending on your Wi-Fi adapter, if your Wi-Fi adapter supports N then try my suggestion.

Is your router's firmware also up to date?

An update will be much appreciated.

I have halo 2 and a dell 531 inspiron.
Its VERY SLOW and i was told there were speed tweaks you could do to a computer to make it faster so halo 2 could run fast. i have the MINIMUM requirements for this. the bare minimum. Basically i have 2 gb ram
and a pitiful Graphic card. 6150 N vidia Geforce. anyone know how to tweak the speed of this computer?

And also: I have a wifi adapter for my wii/ds/psp and i dont know how to set it up so i can use it. I have the instructions and they confused me i dont know if im supposed to bridge or something. if i bridge though it tells me it cannot find anything that it can connect to. I have dsl (LAC) and a Wifi adapter Usb. can anyone help with one or the other?

A:Halo Not Up to speed. Wifi not working either.

I don't think your graphics card is capable of running Halo 2 properly, even though its an old game its technically flawed and demands the same kind of requirements as quite a lot of games in the past year have. You can try putting the image quality down to minimum, but then it wouldn't be very enjoyable. You could also try downloading the latest Nvidia drivers from their website, if yours are not up to date that could be your problem. However I'm not sure any of them options will grant you much success, if you have PCI-E or AGP slots in your motherboard you can buy Nvidia 6800/7800/8800 cards that will run the game exceptionally well

As for the WIFI problem, I also have a connection that does not seem to work and I think this could be because it recieves data rather than sends it, maybe thats why yours does not work correctly??...

I have a Wireless N network card on my pc and i have a wireless N router (not N certified) and i'm getting a connection speed of 48.0 mbps. I believe this is slower than wireless G. My network card is Realtek RTL8190 wireless (came with my computer) and i have a Linksys WRT120N wireless N router. I found nothing when i Googled my network card and i found nothing about it other than drivers.

I am a complete noob re WiFi (alway use hard wired) but recently bought a cheap USB dongle described as 150Mbps 11n. On testing I found I was getting about 22Mbps download with the dongle (1 metre from router) compared to 62Mbps wired. Upload speed was about the same as wired.

A bit of Googling told me this was a simplex/duplex problem. I did a test with a friends laptop and got full speed, so its not my router (BT homehub) and I have the latest driver from Windows update. So - is this about par for a four quid WiFi dongle, or do I need to set some value or other to get duplex? I could see this half speed business being a problem for someone already on a low speed line.

A:USB WiFi speed half that of wired

Hi 3D Jed.

Could I have more details on the USB Dongle please?

Also is it a 3.0 USB? Maybe you friend has usb 3 and you only have usb 2?

I have done multiple speedtest from www.speedtest.net over the past 3 days and when I am directly connected to my modem, my download speed is roughly 35 MBPS however, when I am on wifi (literally 5 feet from the router) my download speed is roughly 20 MBPS. I have the Belkin F5D8236-4 router found here http://www.engadget.com/products/belkin/f5d8236-4/.

Is this slowdown of speed due to my router/interference or what?

Hey guys This issue is most puzzling to me Since yesterday the internet began to act unsoundly through WiFi As in I never had this problem before There were periods where it was fast enough to play some online games watch Youtube no problem and then it would shut off randomly So since yesterday I have been restarting the modem with only very short term resolutions to the issue I accessed the modem through my web browser and it says the connection is always working fine Despite that I called my ISP and they claimed there was an issue and forwarded it to Deutsche Telekom Since then I did some experimenting and plugged my computer into the modem with the ethernet cable Boom No problem whatsoever It's been top speed and reliable So I'm assuming this is an issue with Windows hopefully you guys can help me out If it helps I downloaded and installed updates for Windows today There are optional ones that I did not download yet but I did is Wifi unstable, top is ethernet speed? cable yet download and install the important ones Wifi is unstable, yet ethernet cable is top speed? no problem I checked the network adapters and they all state quot The best driver for your software is already installed quot Thanks in advance

A:Wifi is unstable, yet ethernet cable is top speed?

You may want to go to the website of the laptop's manufacturer and download the latest driver, and install it. Using the OEM driver, sometimes eliminates the problem.

My Sony Vaio laptop is experiencing slow internet speed even though the signal level shows as excellent. This is only when using it upstairs, where it is normally used. In the same room as the router it is fine. This has only just starting happening and it was OK anywhere in the house until a couple of days ago. To make it even more confusing my wife's notebook and my iphone work fine on the network in the bedroom. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello all. Here is my set up. I have 1.5M internet service coming into my CradlePoint CTR35 wireless router. The two devices I have are my desktop, and an iPad. When doing a speed test at speedtest.net, I find that my desktop running windows 7 gets about 1.45, and my iPad is only pulling 1.36M. I realize that isn't a big deal, but why would there be a varience between the devices? Shouldn't they be able to test out the same?

A:WIFI internet speed varience between devices

The Operating System parameter settings that determine data transfer rates are slightly different on the two machines. Differences between computers on the same LAN are normal.

With many older OS's and probably the one on your iPad these values are permanently set in the registry. They are just general values that will usually give a good data rate. Sometimes these values can be changed to improve the flow.

Starting with Vista and Windows 7, the OS actually monitored the data flow and could change some of the values to improve it.

I have two XP desktops, a Vista desktop and a Vista laptop. All will show slightly different results on speed tests to the same server.

The two XP's have the same values for all their changable settings, but one always tests about 0.04 M higher than the other.
