Fibre Router for Office

Q: Fibre Router for Office

Hi all

We're about to get fibre connected to our office building and the installation team have told us they'll be running Cat 7 cables to each office so we need to source a compatible router. I didn't even know there was a Cat 7 until last week, so don't know what I need to get!

I've been looking at AC Wireless routers but I have no idea if Cat 7 is compatible with them. Does Cat 7 use the same terminals as Cat 5/5e/6? Will I be fine going for a standard router or do I require something more specific?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Now looking for recommendations on suitable routers, see post 3 for details

Preferred Solution: Fibre Router for Office

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Same connectors as 5/5e/6, so any router that would be suitable for your office on 5e/6 will be fine for 7.

Fibre Channel HDD

Hey guys,

I have a Seagate Cheetah ST336605FC HDD. It uses a "fibre channel" connection. I was just wondering if this type of HDD is compatible with a PC. If so, where can I find one of these cables?

Thanks

A:Fibre Cable HDD

Are you talking about Fibre Channel?

You need a Fibre Channel adapter and an enclosure for your drive. Expect a budget of roughly $1500+

Hi everyone apologies if this is in the wrong place on the forum but I'm looking for some help guidance to get my existing router to work with my recently installed fibre broadband service I'm with TalkTalk ISP broadband Fibre and recently our area got upgraded to fibre to the street existing copper to the house and was supplied with a TT router Fibre broadband which works OK but decided to use my super reliable Linksys x instead as its got a much higher spec that the TT one but cannot get Fibre broadband it to work As far as I can tell from the spec of the Linksys it can handle a fibre connection but when all TT settings are put in the WAN light connected Fibre broadband to ADSL is not lit so can never connect to internet My understanding of the original ADSL line and the increaded speed of the new connection originally mbs vs now mbs as far as the router is concerned would be the same Obviously there is a difference that the Linksys doesn't like as it used to work fine with the origanal setup Is my assumption incorrect and I will not be able to use the original router Any help would be appreciated Thank you

Hey all,

I'm an IT admin for a small company. We have a MDF in our server room, with 4 IDF's scattered throughout the building. We use fibre to connect these IDF to MDF.

I'm pretty good with ethernet cabling, but very new to Fibre. I have a catalyst 2960 Cisco switch which has a 1000baseSX SFP connector directly into the switch fibre port. We also have some of the switches connected with a Unicomm box that takes the fibre *different connection type* and spits it out as RJ45.

I'm curious to know what type of connectors we need, as well as the type of fibre. Do we have to buy the connectors AND the fibre? Should the fibre be able to be "plugged in" to the connectors we buy or do they come as one integrated set. Any advice for this is greatly apprecaited.

do I get extra fast broadband if the fiber wire is only up to the bt box down the road?

If not why the neighbour who's line originates from same box has fibre broad band?

Closing dup. Please do not start multiple threads on the same topic.

This seems to be a Networking, not OS, topic but if you do need the thread moved to another forum click on Report and request the move. IMO better, in this case, is to bump your thread in Networking after no response for about 24 hours.

I was just curious, I heard a fibre connection was really good. Apparently with a company called SureWest Communications, you get 10mb/s upload and download. I play Xbox live, and this kind of speed would be great. I was curious how much it costs, and how I could go about getting it installed (I live in Ontario, Canada). If you can provide a link to a good page, please do so. I would like any information on this type of internet connection. Also, if you can give me info on a DS3 connection, that would be great.

I have a couple of questions about fibre optic cabling:

1) What is transmitted down a fibre optic cable, (as opposed to electronic signals being transmitted down a regular category 6 cable), and why is it less susceptible to electronic interference?

2) Is 10 gigabit ethernet only available through fibre optic?

3) How much longer is installation of fibre optic than category 6? (A percentage will do)

A:Fibre Optic Questions

Modulated light is transmitted on the fiber. Light is not affected by EMI, and neither is the optical signal on the fiber.

There is a draft proposal for 10 gigabit over copper, but I don't think it's actually out yet. Here's one of many hits from a Google search: http://www.computerworld.com/networkingtopics/networking/lanwan/story/0,10801,90316,00.html

With the right tools, fiber can be installed reasonably easily, but I can't really quote a percentage, since I've only watched it happen, but it appeared pretty easy.

Hello all, long time reader, first time poster.

I have a WIN7 HP Z820 system that is BSOD on boot and I am stumped on this one. Could Anyone take a look at my dmp? Seems to BSOD when booting w/ the fibre card connected to the FC fabric. It's the only workstation that does this and is zoned the same as the rest of the workstations. I want to say there is an array on the fabric causing issues, but the other Win7 Z820's haz no issues, same hardware config. Tried cloning from a working system, and a new z820 too?!?

-Thanks!

I ve been having this problem for the past two months and both my ISP and my bank have said they can t help me I m in one of the first areas in Australia to be connected to the new National Broadband Network NBN - ie fibre - a bit of a guinea pig really I m interested if anyone here has any thoughts about what s going on I have a small shop attached to my house so my internet connection is used for my home and my business For nearly two connection and Eftpos fibre years I ve had my internet on fibre and about a year ago I got an eftpos terminal for my shop and this plugs into the modem via an ethernet cable I didn t have any problems with that for about months until I got the phone added as well My ISP provided a new modem which the phone also connects to Since then my connection drops out irregularly when the eftpos machine is turned on not actually being used - just on standby It comes back on again if I restart the modem It is more likely to drop out when I am streaming a video - sometimes not for half an hour or more but sometimes I can just watch a short embedded you tube clip and it will drop out within a minute or two Occasionally it will drop out when I m not watching a video as well It doesn t drop out when the eftpos is turned off Usually there are no other Eftpos and fibre connection computers in use at the time In the evening when my kids are home Eftpos and fibre connection there might be three people on the internet and there is no problem if the eftpos is turned off My ISP have given me a new modem made Eftpos and fibre connection no difference and have had the NBN Co who provide the fibre infrastructure check my connection Now they re just saying there is no problem with my connection and I should talk to the bank I talked to the bank and they said there s nothing wrong with my eftpos and it s the ISP s problem Ultimately I could change to a cordless eftpos terminal but that s more expensive - and I shouldn t have to I just wondered if anyone here has any thoughts Thanks nbsp

Hi Guys,

I have a G50 80 Laptop and have just had Fibre Optics intalled in my house,  the powerful Wi-Fi has 2 outputs, a normal 100mbs and a super "plus" output of 300mbs....great.  All my other bits of equipment;  phones, pads, kindles, all contect to the super fast "plus" output,   HOWEVER,  the G50 80 will not contect to this, only to the slower 100mbs output.  I have been told that I have to change something on the laptop to increase something to 1 gb, I've looked everywhere on my system but have found no clues to what I have to do.   Anyone got any suggestions please,  would be very grateful for some help.

I recently became interested in Fibre Channel standards, but can't quite determine from all the material I've been digging through whether or not it can be used as a boot device. Fibre channel hard drives are only like $75 for an 18 gig, but I can't seem to find any controller cards. I know most Fibre Channel is used for SAN's (Storage Area Networks) and the controllers for them are for NT and 2000 (which i run on my PC).

My questions:

1) Is fibre channel a bootable standard?

2) If so, where can I purchase the controller card?

Hi

I am currently using Sky broadband and getting just less than 7mb connection and I've been (and still am) happy with it for years, but I now want to stream 4K which means I will need a Fibre connection.

Technology has changed over the years and as I've not changed router settings and don't really understand routers that much, I'm trying to work out if anything will stop working and need adjusting when I change over to Fibre with a new router.

Anything else that I need to think about when installing a new router?

Thanks

A:Upgrading to Fibre broadband questions.

Your current router adsl(2?) is not compatible with fibre, you need a VDSL modem/router, sky does provide these and you can pretty much drop it in to your current setup.

I will be connecting two 3com switches (one is a 3870, the other a 4200) via the gigabyte port on both using appropriate gigabyte modules.

Will there be any need to configure these gigabyte ports manually or will they auto-sense?

If I do need to manually configure these ports, is there preferred settings?

A:Connection via fibre of 2 3Com switches

Fiber ports are never auto sensing nor have any setting for duplex. They run full out. So if you have a GigE fiber port, it will always run GigE full duplex.

The only configuration provided you're just doing an uplink connection is possibly activating the fiber ports. With Cisco devices, some of them have a shared fiber/copper port setup. You can only use one or the other as they both share the same interface name. I would have to go into the configuration and declare which media type I were to use in those situations. With many of the SMB type switches, the fiber ports are often shared ports with the last copper ports on the switch. You'll need to check the user's manual.

Other bits of information. You need to ensure you are using the appropriate SFP or GBIC modules for you application. The majority of them are of the two flavors: short wave length and long wave length. You want the short wave length if you're only talking about anything less than (if I recall correctly) 1600 feet or so. You also don't need to spend the money on getting single mode fiber as multimode fiber will work fine with the short wave length applications.

Hi,

I am in mexico and was using Jadoo tv 3 box since past one year on telmex connection.
Recently i changed apartment and now i have a telmex connection again but with a fibre modem.

My Jadoo box is not getting connected to internet, it goes to step 3 of getting the IP addresses but fails on step 4. It still continues to work(sometimes), but whenver i will try to stream something it will take a hell lot of time to load, once it starts streaming there in no issue.

I tried to take that box and test it in one of my friendīs place but it works fine there.

I have tried all settings on modem ( mac filters off etc ) as advised by Jaddo support.

Any help is appreciated.

I phoned up our broadband supplier and they said it is more than likely that too many processes/ programs running which is slowing down the connection. I need to know how to find and disable these processes etc safely, which ones to keep running etc etc but i am unsure where to start, Oh I also did a speed test used by BTwholesale which has said internet is running at nearly 50 mbps so I too am leaning towards too many programs/processes, cheers for help in advance

I recently switched from broadband to fibre optic with talktalk. I'm just wondering should I change the ADSL (Grey cable) they gave me or does it matter if I still use the old routers one. Will it run faster with the new one or is there any difference?. its the cable running into my phone socket.

A:Setting up Fibre Optic Broadband help needed

If you have changed to Fibre to Cabinet, which I believe is the only type of fibre that Talk Talk is capable of supplying - It's is actually a type of BT system.

You should have had work performed in the home where the cable enters the property and a Specialist face plate fitted to your wall box - This is the only connection you should use for the modem connection.

Connections from the modem, (Ethernet or Wireless should be as previous although it's likely that the engineer would not have set up anything other than a basic system.

Can someone help me with a 3Com switch fibre communication problem I have. At one end I have a 3Com model number 3CR17450-91 with a fibre module 3CSFP91 installed in one of the fibre module ports. This is then patched into a fibre patch panel which is connected via fibre to another fibre patch panel. The patch panel at the other end is then connected to a fibre modual 3C16971 which is seated in a 3C16981 switch.

Once connected, the network stops.

Is it anything to do with the differnce in the switch modules (they are quite different in terms of age) and their speed capacities?
Is there something that can be configured on the port of the newer switch (3C17450-91) that will enable communications?

A:Solved: 3COM Switch Fibre Communications

You're right to assume a problem with the fiber connection. You cannot plug a GigE fiber port to a 100 Mbit fiber port. Fiber ports do not auto negotiate (nor can you manually set) speed. You have to go one for one with fiber ports. The 3C16971 is a 100 Mbit fiber module. So that's your mismatch.

I have a very strange problem We have laptops - Packard Bell Optic wireless speed problem Strange - Fibre Win yrs old and now retired and hp Win one is months old and the other month For the past year we have had a good wifi fibre optic service - regularly getting speed tests of - Mbps - this was on both the retired laptop Fibre Optic wireless speed - Strange problem and the month Fibre Optic wireless speed - Strange problem old laptop However since getting the new laptop we have realised that on both the new PCs we are now getting about half the speed we had previously - sometimes less Now we come to the very strange part This morning I decided to try a wired test but did not want to connect one of the new laptops to a wired connection being worried it might mess up the wifi even more so I dug out retired laptop to use that BUT - before doing a wire connected test - I thought I'd try it via wifi so I could compare afterwards Well - imagine my surprise when I found that the old retired laptop received a speedtest of Mbps I'll just add we have tried with only of the new ones switched on connected and it makes no difference So - my question is - can anyone suggest how I can get the new machines to get as good a speed as the old retired one I do hope someone can help

I just bought two HP 500 GB Fibre Channel hard drives. I didn't know before I bought them that they were from a server.

And I cannot use them because they don't have IDE or SATA data connector. They have FC 40 pin connecters. I've seen some stuff on the internet that suggests that these hard drive can be adapted to be able to be connected to a regular pc through ide or sata plugs. But Im not sure if they can be adapted though.

Does anyone out there know if there are adapters I can use on these hard drives so they can be adapted to use in a pc?

Here is the model #: HP NB50058855 Fibre Channel hard drive.

I spent some money on these hard drives and would be sad if I can't use them. Im looking for pretty inexpensive adapters.

Thank you, Matt

A:Sub 10 Mbps results on wifi, from a 300M optic fibre plan

Hi there

Wifi will depend on both the quality / protocol of your Router and your devices -- you'll be lucky to get a 2 - 3 Mbs wifi download whatever the fibre optic cable can deliver.

Another thing to consider is to add an extender / repeater - this improves poor signal immensely. If say your SSID is DOGGY then the extender will simply create your new one with the name DOGGY-EXT same passwords etc -- these work really well.

Wifi isn't (yet) the fastest protocol around.

Cheers

What would be the best wireless router to hook up to a Doctors office that has good security, but is going to in the $200-400 range?

A:Wireless router for a Doctors office

Well, you need something with WPA capability, and the client computers will require WPA as well. The real question is how large is the office, and what's the amount of electrical noise and construction of the walls. You may need more than one wireless device to provide full coverate.

My home network consists of a 3com office connect and 2 PC connecting to it through wireless. In the 3com config, i can see the Internet IP address is 203.223.210.232 but i am not able to ping it from my office network.
The router actually connects to the socket provided by my building, so i havent really subscribed to any ISP. I don't know if this IP is real and can be accessible from outside. Or the issue is that the router just doens't repsond to my ping. Any suggestions? Thanks!

A:Cannot ping my 3com router from office

it looks like a external ip but it still could be internal only.
you buildings network could have ping or icmp disabled or disallowed..
i would assume that there is a router/ switch which distributes network access to everybody, managed by the building.

did you try an nslookup?

Any help?

A:Office Laptops connecting to router but not internet??

Reset the router either with the little 'reset' button which may be 'buried' inside a small hole to prevent accidental resets, use an opened paper clip to push into the hole all the way in till it will go no further, hold for 5 secs. and remove clip. You'll know if it has reset because all the lights will start flashing as it re-syncs with the network.

Alternatively, unplug the power cord and wait 5 minutes before re-connecting power cord.

If no joy, log on the router's configuration web page (usually it's "http://192.168.0.1 http://192.168.1.1 and check the wireless security key hasn't changed from what it should be, Also check the wireless channel hasn't defaulted to a lower or automatic channel selection which can cause a low signal which can't provide a good connection (needs to be higher than channel 8).

A:Small Office Network - Modem, Router, Switch

edanfalls said:

Hello,

I am moving my small business into a new office in a few days and could do with some advice on configuring the network.

There are RJ45 connections in every room which is cool, these all feed into a 48-port patch panel which the last guys left behind.

Every PC on the network needs to be able to access the internet, our storage server and other network attached devices such as printers and faxes.

Q1). If our modem goes into a router, and the router goes into a switch box, and all PCs and other devices including the storage server are patched into the switch box, will this work? We will be using one dedicated IP, and I believe that if the modem goes straight into the switch box, each PC will unsuccessfully compete for that same IP. So does going through a router alleviate this?Click to expand...

you are correct on both points. the issue is where does the DHCP service originate {the router or a Domain Controller[*]}?

Q2). Do patch panels have speed limitations? Despite being entirely passive, is it possible that the patch panel might only be 100Mbit? I haven't bought the switch box yet, so would like to know if there's any point going for 1Gbit over 100Mbit. Couldn't see a model number on it unfortunately.Click to expand...

No, the panel is entirely passive and therefore invisible to the network. Active components, eg routers & switches could be factors.
You are at that point of an investment and cudos to you for asking before diving in

This is the time to create a Gigabyte backbone and use 100mb client access to it (not GBit). This will ensure the whole network gets good service an not single client can dominate it. The sole exception I would make is to use a GB nic in every server system attached.

[*] Instead of using the router to provide DHCP, a better choice is the Domain Controller server (provided you use one ). You can then configure static addresses from one location and set the DHCP range in the same place. DHCP and DNS typically are from the same server, while Exchange and Active Directory are elsewhere.

I recently switched to Time Warner (TW) cable for internet and VOIP (Ring Central) at my office. Ever since the switch, I am having to reset the modem and/or router when one or all stations lose internet connection. I am guessing, now, that it has something to do with static IP? This morning, I was successful re-gaining internet for the office by pulling the power cord on the router and re-plugging it after a minute or less. I will make the purchase of getting a static IP if I must but I want to isolate the cause.

Hi Jimny

First i want to ask what do u have for the DNS settings is it set to the router or the router's DNS and also what kind of router do u have. Is it wireless, what model and have u tried to do a hard reset on it to see if that might be the problem.

Got fibre optic broadband installed by TalkTalk last week. Since then when I put desktop to Sleep, it goes to sleep but gets restarted by itself within a couple of minutes. It then continues to go to sleep and get restarted by itself. However, if the Ethernet connection between the router and computer is removed, the computer stays in sleep. I rang TalkTalk tech support and they say I need to update my network driver. Device Manager on my computer says the Network adapter is Intel 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection. I right-click that and select "Update driver software" and then "Search automatically for updated driver software", I get the message "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date".

I am running Windows 7 Professional on Dell Dimension 9200. The router supplied by TalkTalk is DSL 3780 by D-Link.

Has anybody else experienced this problem? Help!

A:Desktop does not "sleep" after fibre optic broadband installed

This might be what you are looking for. Make sure you create a system restore point before installing a new driver then if it is no good you can easily get back to square one.

Where it says "Search Downloads" copy and paste this "Intel 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection". You should get to a page that looks like this:

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7

I would just like to know what peoples opinions and advice is on this?

A:Up-grade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 or Office 2013

I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.

Good luck.

My MS Office files have generic icons, and when I open them, Windows asks me which program to use. Office 2010 isn't even on the list. A trial version of Office 2007 came with my laptop. I downloaded the Office 2010 beta, then uninstalled 2007. Since I uninstalled the old Office, all my Office files are no longer associated with Office, and there seems to be no way to remarry them. Office 2010 (beta) doesn't appear in the default programs control panel. The only way I can open those files is to open Word/Excel/etc, and File>Open. I feel like this should be simple. Any ideas?

After much messing Manager 07 - Office File - Picture Office Types Microsoft Broken around I have discovered that if you use Windows 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program' to set default programs for file types it breaks the File Types selection within a given program in my case Microsoft Office Picture Manager Microsoft Office Picture Manager - Office 07 - Broken File Types and you are no longer able to use the program itself to set file types only the Windows function You can tick untick file associations all day long within Microsoft Office Picture Manager and nothing gets associated unassociated The File Types option is basically broken I have also noticed this occur with -zip which actually causes a more serious issue By default zip is not listed in the Windows list of 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program' window but is listed if you associate zip with -zip's own file association option BUT if you then subsequently use windows to re-associate zip with Windows Explorer the zip vanishes because by default is is not listed breaks -zips file association options and you can no longer associate zip files with -zip EVER Basically I am curious as to why Windows own file association options would break software's own internal file association options so badly to the point they are essentially useless and if there is a fix I even tried completely reinstalling Microsoft Office and removing all references of it within the registry no luck Its not a big deal but I just found it odd that a fundamental piece of Windows would harm the integrity of software so easily and seemingly irreversibly I have made the assumption that perhaps because Office is fairly old and probably geared up for Vista that perhaps older softer like this just isn't compatible with Windows file association Any thoughts or fixes

Good Day,

I've often used the Files and Transfer Wizard to move files in the Windows XP environment, including those for people moving from Office 2003 to 2007, however, I've just been asked to move a person from a computer that would result in them moving backwards from Office 2007 to Office 2003; is this possible? What concerns should be considered? Obviously if they have a number of documents saved in the 2007 it could be problematic, though could the compatibility pack offered by Microsoft offset that concern? Thoughts? Thanks.

Good Evening Everyone,

I have a few questions concerning the Installation of 2010 Office. I know that I have to uninstall Office 2007. I have no clue on how to save or where to save my documents from Office 2007. The documents consist of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and a few various folders. Should I from the Start Menue click on Documents select all and copy. Where should I place this copy? Can It be left on my hard drive? After I install Office 2010 can I then copy the "Document File" and place in Documents. Will all the files end up in the proper place for their programs, Word files go to Word, Excel goes to Excel so on and so forth. Thank you so much for all your help and cooperation. It is greatly appreciated. I hope I described my situation correctly. I look forward to hearing from you.

A:2010 Office Professional Plus to Replace 2007 Office Small Business

But you don't have to uninstall Office 2007 to upgrade to 2010. That's the general rule as you can generally upgrade from lower SKUs to higher SKUs (Small Business to Pro Plus). As far as saving your documents, you can really save them wherever you like on your hard drive or on any CD or flash drive if you wish to do so. As far as file types, after 2010 is installed, they should all register properly for their programs so that Word documents open in Word, Excel Documents in Excel, etc.

Though if you have all of you documents already saved within "Documents" or "My Documents" or some other folder you've set aside and you want to uninstall 2007 before upgrading to 2010, the documents themselves will be retained when you uninstall, you just won't be able to really do much with them until you install 2010.

I'm running Windows 7 on my new computer, which came with a trial version of Office 2010. Rather than buy the full version when the trial expired, I installed the Office 2003 I had on my old -- now dead -- computer. I now find that I can't open the Word and Excel files I created with the 2010 version. Is there a 'cloud' site where I could send the 2010 files and have them returned to me as standard .xls and .doc files? Or is there a free converter available for download?

i remember with windows xp and office you could go to a different part of the microsoft windows update website in Internet Explorer and it would prompt you with ActiveX to allow updates for Office and after you did that then when 2010 for update updates win7 not thru showing office windows office you went to the normal windows xp update site there would be a whole other section of updates for microsoft office available That was with office anyway i use a dell restore cd for windows professional on a dell pc obviously to install win from scratch I can do windows updates no problem I have microsoft office professional plus with a valid license key these are provided by my IT dept Office installs fine not showing office updates thru windows update for office 2010 win7 during the install i can go through the options and install excel powerpoint all shared tools and so on Once installed it works fine There is no service pack installed at this point From here not showing office updates thru windows update for office 2010 win7 if I go windows update I never see anything for office From within office Microsoft Word file menu help for example it shows office is activated and if i click on check for updates there it then not showing office updates thru windows update for office 2010 win7 opens an IE window which says updates can be done from start menu - programs - windows update If i do that it's a normal windows operating system update and I get nothing for office I have manually downloaded from microsoft Office SP and SP and have installed either one When i go to the help menu it then shows office SP so the service pack seems to have installed no problem But I still never see any updates for office from windows update what's the deal

A:not showing office updates thru windows update for office 2010 win7

You mean what's called Microsoft Update. If you go in to the settings in Windows Update, do you have this checked:

I have Office 2013 Pro Plus, but the click-to-run version which updates itself and is not part of Windows Update. But I don't think there's a click-to-run version for 2010 Pro Plus so that is probably not the issue here.

A:Hp Laptop, Vista, Unable To Load Office 97 After Removing Office 2007 Trial Version.

Microsoft doesn't certify Office 97 to work with Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933305That being said, lot's of people on the web have gotten it to work with varying degrees of success.Ensure that you install the application in compatibility mode - both as "Run as Windows 98" and "Run as Administrator"Don't install Service Pack 2 - it has problems. But, from what I've read, it'll let you gracefully exit the SP2 setup if you started it.

I installed office 2007 (full install after uninstall of office 2003) on vista yesterday and every time I open an office product, it gives me a message ?please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office professional 2007?. Then it pops a window with a status bar for ?Configuration Progress?.

I looked this up online and it said that this was caused by installing as a user, not an administrator. So I uninstalled office entirely, booted, and reinstalled as administrator.

Still doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

Thanks!

A:Purchased Office 2010 w/ free upgrade to Office 2013

Hi there
it's in the Ms store already -- although IMO I'd stick to Office 2010 if I were you.
Anyway YMMV so here's the link (UK store) .

Microsoft Store United Kingdom Online Store - Office Suites

What you'd do to get the upgrade price I don't know but Office 2013 IS available for download. Try phoning / emailing -- actually a better option these days is to use a FAX believe it or not for this type of question. Emails tend to get lost as people have 100'000's to deal with, phone calls are diabolical --endless menu systems, loads of waiting and people on the other side of the planet who are incredibly difficult to understand.

The lowly fax machine when it chatters into life usually gets INSTANT attention these days . !!

The general consensus is that it's best to

1) install the older applications BEFORE you install the newer ones
2) install them in different folders

e.g.
c:\program files\msoffice2002-xp\
c:\program files\msoffice2000\

Hey All,

Here is my issue. The Company we consult for has not transitioned all of the way to Office 2007. We have a number of machines that still have Office 2003. Compatibility Pack works on almost all issues.

Current issue is one of our users received a PowerPoint 2003 that has embedded PowerPoint 2007 files. When the user opens the PowerPoint 2007 file Office 2003 shuts down. He has to download the 2007 file to his desktop.

From what I can see this is because the file conversion process shuts down Office 2003 before attempting to open the PowerPoint 2007 file.

Another issue that may be complicating the error is we had to run a Fixit patch from Microsoft that was causing Excel, Word and PowerPoint to be scanned which caused long opening times. I don't remember the KB article for that one at the moment but will find it if I need to.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hello

I installed office 2007 ultimate alongside office 2003 professional. Microsoft outlook and publisher was removed from my office 2003 prior to office 2007 installation. I also opted not to install microsoft outlook 2007.

It seems that each time I load word 2007 or 2003 after previously opening the other version (ie. load 2003 followed by 2007 OR load 2007 followed by 2003), a window would opened up indicating that either the configuration or installation process is taking place, hence delaying the startup. However, once the program has started, it would run without problem. I do not intend to unistall my 2003. There was no problem loading excel 2003/2007, powerpoint 2003/2007 and access 2003/2007.

I am running on Windows XP SP2 that is regularly updated. Thank you

A:instaling issue Office 2007 alongside office 2003

Try deselecting Word as your Outlook Email editor. I suspect that will be the issue, as it reconfigures Outlook 2003 each time to the changed Word version?

Hi all

I am using Windows XP and office 2003. I am using Microsoft Office Picture Manager to view tif files.

PROBLEM:

1. I open a tif file.
2. I make an annotation change eg: Use the hightlighting tool to hightlight some text. Fine, no problem!
3. I save the document.
4. I close the document and try reopening it:

I get this error:

"The file selected is not a valid Microsoft Document Imaging file"

I recreated my Windows XP profile and this resolved the problem

That was two weeks ago........now the problem is back!

Any ideas?

Pileyrei

Hi Guys, can anyone help please. Serious problem with MS Word crashing each time I Save or Save As - MS Office Home and Student 2007 software. I've run MS Office Diagnostics twice and no problems were detected. The problem has been building up over the last few weeks but today has become really bad. Happens every single time I Save or Save As. So can't work at all. Thanks!

Hello,

I am running Office 2003 on Windows 7. My PC is only 6 months old and everything has been running like butter. All of a sudden Office files open slowly when double-clicked from their respective locations (they would normally blink up). If I open Word or Excel and then open the files from there, they open quick. Outlook on the other hand, is just slow to load up...which it wasn't before.

I did a ton of research online and couldn't get a clear fix. My thoughts are:
Anti Virus? (I'm using AVG Free)
Ad-Aware Free? (Ad-Watch live is on...however it was on before)
Windows update or office update?

But obviously I'm here to get your thoughts. It's a pain in the ass when I bought a new PC so it could perform quick, and now spreadsheets and email take 20 seconds or more to open.

I just wanted to add that when I disconnect the PC from the internet, the problem seems to go away?

I did an upgrade installation from Office 2003 PRO to Office 2010 PRO. I had several issues with Access denied on C:\Config.msi. I usually select retry and all is well. I think I may have missed one of the retries before I did the system restart.
Now I get an error 2203 whenever I reboot, and the Office 2003 installer keeps popping up anytime I try to do anything.
I tried uninstalling Office 2003 and was told that I had a corrupted install. I tried re-installing it and it seems to just hang.
I also tried to uninstall and repair Office 2010.

I'm at a loss at this point.

A:Problems after Upgrade Installation from Office 2003 to Office 2010

Do a restore point to before you installed office 2010. then uninstall the office 2003 and do not upgrade.

I am running a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate that I got through an academic program. I need to install a key for Office 2010 on a new system. The cost for the key only is about $20 less than a 3 license traditional disk version, so I am considering upgrading every system.

However, I don't want to lose MS Access or MS Publisher to upgrade.

If I install Office 2010 Home & Student over Office 2007 Ultimate, will the extra programs from Office 2007 still be available to me? I know they will not be upgraded, but having a few different versions floating around doesn't bother me.

A:Office 2007 Ultimate to Office 2010 Home & Student

No... those two programs are not available in the student version...

I have an Excel file which has some moving objects as well as some drop down menus. I recently installed MS Office 2007 after erasing 2003. The Excel tables now are disabled, the file now looks like a picture, only the fields outside of the content are really clickable.I have tried to enable all macros, downloaded the MS compatibility pack, still same issue. Any suggestions/ideas? The file works in 2013 and 2016.I can share the file upon request ...

A:Office 2003 Excel file will not open with Office 2007

Thank you for your suggestions, here an update: I got the file working - how, no idea. I re-opened the original attachment, deleted the one I had on my PC and voila, it works.

Am not sure what to do with these updates:

Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553181) 32-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553310) 32-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553455) 32-Bit Edition

Windows Updates says they are important.

I do not have Office 2010 installed. Office 2007 is installed.

My security software keeps telling me I am at risk because my operating system is not up to date.

Any thoughts on what I should do?

A:Receiving updates for Office 2010 but Office 2007 is installed.

If your computer is relatively new, it may have come with a trial install of Office 2010 - check the Start menu, and the Programs & Features listing.
You may also have installed Viewers for things like PowerPoint 2010, which still require updates.
