Preferred Solution: Solved: Internet Explorer has encountered an error ... window when closing IE and other apps

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Internet Explorer has encountered an error ... window when closing IE and other apps

Go to add/remove programs and remove SpamBlockerUtility then restart the machine.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
Click the Scanning Control tab.
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.

Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Click Close to exit the program.

Windows XP, After I close a window, or is it a page, I keep getting the following error message: Internet Explorer Problem, error report, Debug-Send Error Report-Don't Send. I've checked all of those choices at different times but nothing changes. I still keep getting that pop up "error report". How can I stop it? I don't know of anything that I did to cause it.

Every other attempt to open any file or start any program will cause windows explorer message to come up "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shutdown". This happens every time that I click close on a Windows Explorer windows. I have a feeling it's the new Windows Update that just finished installing. I've attached the Update History copy below.

My problem is that I keep getting error messages about internet explorer. "Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close." Actually it just popped up twice as i was typing that sentence. I have used mozilla for about a year now, because i just like it better then IE, so i dont know why this is suddenly an issue. I did delete IE awhile ago and thinking that may have caused the problem, I reinstalled it. Ive ran Adaware and my anti virus program but it wont stop coming up. Please help me, im out of ideas.

Whenever I click on Internet explorer an error message pops up telling me that Internet explorer has encountered an error and need to close. This happens 4 to 5 times before I am able to stay on Internet explorer.

I have done a system restore and it doesn't seem to help.

Here is what the report says:

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: urlmon.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3231 Offset: 0003b5ce

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

A:Internet Explorer has encountered a validation error

What software have you recently installed (if any)? There could be an incompatible process in task manager which is causing this issue. When you get the issue again try and post a screenshot of task manager, this might help point you in the right direction.

I am getting the error below when closing Internet Explorer. I am running XP SP3 with all updates loaded and Internet Explorer version 8Can anyone give me any advice as to what's causing this and what I can do to rectify it? I tend to use Firefox which is having no problems but my wife uses I.E for various things and it's becoming a nuisance.... I will say that there appears to be no other problems on the computer and I've done all the usual scans with AVG, Malwarebytes, Etc. So, any ideas anyone?

A:error when closing internet explorer

Follow the below Instructions Carefully:

1. Download Hijack this from the link.

(Choose the installer of HJT—Hijack This)

2. Run a Scan.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING BY YOURSELF.

(Doing so when NOT Instructed Might cause Unwanted System Instability, BSOD's and Even Render your System Unusable)

3. Save a Log file (On your Desktop)

4. Copy and Paste all the contents.

5. Paste them in the Reply Window.

I am NOT an Authorized Malware Remover.

The Log is requested by me only for Optimization Purposes, troubleshooting and removing applications that are causing various problems such as Crashing, BSOD’s and Freezing and helping the poster remove any incompatible application/program and driver.

I will therefore NOT help if anything related to Malware is found in your log.

The thread will then be moved to the Malware Removal Forums for expert assistance.

I continue getting the following error message each time I close Internet Explorer.
The instruction at "0x01eb4213" referenced memory at "0x0171ad58". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I've run MemTest without any problem being identified. Sometimes when I run sfc /scannow, the problem seems to go away for a little while. I'm running a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop with Windows XP Home. Help!

Hi All

Have recently purchased a Toshiaba Laptop with windows vista premium.
Since day one whenever I shut down an internet browser window it gives thi error
Windows Explorer has stopped working -Windows is serching for a solution to the problem.
Then it says to try removing any toolbars i instaled and try again.Did this but no good.
A few days later it came up with the solution of removing Adobe Flash player and instaling the newest rev. Did this to no avail.
I have the laptop about 6 months now and this is wreaking my head. Everything else is working fine
Also i noticed that if I have a few browser window open I only get the error if I close the first browser window, I can open and close the other browsers as many times as i like with no errors.
Any Ideas will be very welcome

Thanks

When browsing the internet occasionally the box that says Internet Explorer Has Encountered a Problem and Needs To Close pops up and the details link points to Wininet.dll ....Does anybody know how I can get this corrected. Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Wininet.dll ...Internet Explorer Has Encountered A Problem

Did you search C:\Window (including sub-folders and hidden/system files) for the file Wininet.dll?

The working copy should be in C:\Windows\System32.

IF it IS there, try coping the one in C:\Windows\System32\dllcache to C:\Windows\System32, BUT you will have to do this in the Safe Mode since the copy in C:\Windows\System32 is in use.

everytime i exit from my documents and my computer i this error mesage, have tried to scan several times fro spywares and adwares no result.I have symantec antivirus ,supersantispyware.advance window care, wise registry cleaner ,ccleaner spyware blaster installed on my laptop:

A:window explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

Well the first thing to note is, we do not condone the use of registry cleaners. They do not always work as intended and have a tendency to cause more problems than they fix.

The first thing I would do if I were in your position would be to run the system file checker.
Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.
In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.

try this, click on start and then run and type in "sfc /scannow".

This should take some time and afterwards, reboot the computer. Then see if this fixes the issue. If not, I recommend performing a windows repair on your computer.

When I open "my computer" or "control panel" after I close it...it automatically goes into Internet Explorer as a blank page. Most of the time, when I close the IE blank page...it stops responding and I have the control-alt-delete to "end the program"
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello, I have a brand new dell. Less then 2 days old. Computer is running great, super fast. But i already am running into a small problem. When i close internet explorer after visiting a simple website like yahoo or google it closes fine. But when i close a site that contains a flash game or shockwave game an error message pops up. With the windows report box. It dosn't give any info about the error, just that it should be reported. Any Glue? It's so hard to uninstall IE in XP, and re-install won't work either. My internet explorer has recently started opening a new window everytime I click a link.

The only forums I can find tell me how to make this happen. I say "It already is, but I don't want it to!"

I have verified the following:

- "Reuse window for launching shortcut" is checked in the options form.
- Registry setting for "AllowWindowReuse" is set to "1".

What other settings should I try?

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explorer always opens in new window

Hi Cabbey, Welcome to TSF!

Quote:

Registry setting for "AllowWindowReuse" is set to "1".

Try changing the 'Hexidecimal' setting to "0" and see what transpires.....this should stop windows from opening links in a new window.
(Don't forget to reboot the computer after making the Registry change so it will come into effect.)

Post back with the results.

Ctrl+Alt+Del and “End Task” the program in Task Manager >Application. I would Reboot after you get things back to normal. Evidently a download is locking something in, so there might be more than one application to end.

I had some old drivers, updated to latest version but nothing changed.

This is totally random. Everything was fine for the past two weeks I think and today it happened 2 times already.

I have Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bits. Video card is Gigabyte 660 GTX. The rest of the specs are on my profile.

I saw that many people had this problem in the past but I found no real/working solutions. Any ideas?

Hey, I am having problems with my other computer suddenly closing both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer applications, such as Control Panel, My Computer, etc...(Windows XP Home Edition)
When i click on either one, lets say the my computer icon, a pop up of the my computer folder thing flashes for a split second then disappears, the computer freezes for about a second, shows only the desktop, then a few seconds later the icons start appearing on my desktop and my start taskbar comes back. The screen is back to normal with no lag, but the my computer pop up is no longer there. The same thing happens with internet explorer, but it just happens alot quicker.
Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem of this, and maybe how to fix it? Thank You in advance.

Hello, I am having an issue with my Home PC and was hoping that you could help. Whenever I try to launch Internet Explorer I get a popup that says something to the effect of "Internet Explorer has stopped working, windows will try to find a solution to the problem" Then nothing. I am not completely sure of the exact message as I am at work and the computer in question is at home, if you need exact working I could get that today when I go home for lunch. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

How to Fix Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working Problem
Sometimes, just when you thought your computer is in a perfect condition, your windows explorer stops working, freezes up, and restarts. You get error messages like "windows explorer has stopped working" followed by "windows explorer is restarting". You have done nothing wrong but the machine keeps stressing you out. Worry no more as this article will you show you how to solve the problem.

You do NOT need to perform a system restore to solve this problem. Nothing is wrong with your computer either. Inserting your OS installation disc and booting off the disc cannot fix the problem. The solution to the problem is very simple and only involves changing your thumbnails to icons. Follow the steps below to fix the problem and your computer will return to stability.

1. Click on the "Start Menu" and go to "Network"

Start Network

2. Click on "Organize" at the upper right corner of the window. A drop down window will pop up. Click on "folder" and "search options".

search options

3. On the folder option window, you will see three tabs at the upper right-hand corner. Click on "view" and SELECT "always show Icons, never thumbnail". Next, DESELECT "display files Icon on thumbnails" as illustrated below.

Display Files Icon on Thumbnails

4. Click OK and you should be good to go.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.

Depending upon which service pack you have installed you may be able to repair IE7 through the control panel>add/remove programs. If you have SP3 installed you will not have this option. I might also recommend that you try a different browser like FireFox and see if the problem persists.

After finally having got this goddamned MDG piece o' crap up and running after my brother paid MDG CDN$138.00, and it came back the same way, I've re-installed Windows XP. I've downloaded all of the Windows Updates. After re-boot though, Internet Explorer cannot connect to ANY web site because this Send Error Report keeps popping up and whether you send the report or not, the browser closes. I've tried downloading Firefox three times and I am told it is corrupt and will not install. We've been battling this for two weeks. Thanks, Greg P.S. I downloaded Avast Anti-vir Free edition and ran it. Now I get " Virus scanner has encountered a problem and needs to close down. I am right back where I started. Frickin, frackin fat cow son of a gooby....Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

- what computer
- what opperating system(home or pro)
- what age
- how is it connected to the Internet
- why, if the computer comes back in the same way that you have sent it , do you not have any redress with the place that said they fixed it

thanks

My computer was running kind of slow so I ran disk clean up, my McAfee virus program my window washer program and did a defrag. Now whenever I'm on line for just a brief moment I get "internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. Sorry for the inconvenience." Also if I try to run window washer it goes through about 5 steps then comes up with an error and even the virus program comes up with the same "encountered a problem and needs to shut down Sorry... I have error signature reports and error reports but they don't mean anything to me. Help.
Thank you

A:internet explorer has encountered a problem

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

A:internet Explorer encountered a problem..

I don't know if your situation will be this simple, but it could be. When I start getting the "IE has encountered a problem....." message, I find that running AdAware and Spybot, then doing a general system cleaning (deleting Temp and Temp Internet files, unwanted Cookies, and emptying Content IE5 folders through Explorer), then running defrag and rebooting often fixes it. Like I said, I don't know if it will help, but it usually straightens the problem out for me.

This is making me so mad, happens all the time now, i have defragmented , spyware, ran anti virus. Seems to happen when i have multiple windows open and want to play certain games that used to work, also Google earth just freezes up computer. I thought of getting a reg cleaner, but am afraid this will not fix problem. Does anyone think that this may work, if so what is a good one to use. Don't want to make more problems for myself here. Thanks in advance.

I looked at the Microsoft IE website, but got lost trying to find my problem listed. Nothing seemed to apply. Any thoughts to help me keep this from continuing? IE warns me it will shut down, shuts down, and then I have to restart it and find where I was. What do you think?

A:Internet Explorer Has Encountered a Prob

laurfar
When this error message occurs most times the msvcrt.dll is corrupt and needs to be replaced. Here is an article from Microsoft that explains the process.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

The log appears clean. I can't see anything in the log that would be causing a crashing problem. You said that you reinstalled Windows? Did you do a repair install of the OS, and how did you repair IE?

Hi.

I have Window XP. My computer received this message:

"Explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

All the desktop icons are gone.

Also, I can't run any programs like realplayer, documents, etc. The only things that work is my internet. I tried to click on control panel or run but it won't work either.

I thinking maybe I should reinstall the whole window but i don't have back up of all my documents in my laptop. So I hope someone can give me advice on what I should do.

Thanks in advance.

Any time I close my browser the message "internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" appears. I recently had my hard drive reloaded and am still having the same problem. I run virus and spyware software bi-weekly. I also downloaded IE7 and still have the same problem. I have talked with my local tech support and they can not seem to tell me how to fix the problem. They told me to empty my temporary internet files, which I have already done. They also said it might be the web sites that I am at. It happens on all web sites. Please help me to resolve this!!

Also, I am trying to find the correct forum in which to post a problem about "Click here to activate and use" when trying to play a media file in explorer.

A:Internet Explorer Has Encountered A Problem A Needs To Close

am running IE 7 and seem to encounter several error messages about IE having to close. Does anyone know what this is about, and ways to fix it? Please do the following : Go to START RUN and type eventvwr and post the messages with red crosses. There could a lot of issues causing that, so posting the error messages will help us identify the problem. Also, I am trying to find the correct forum in which to post a problem about "Click here to activate and use" when trying to play a media file in explorer. Please post that in the Audio and Video forum eventhough that also could be browser related. Think this error coincide with the error messages you get while using IE7

Right click in the task bar (below the browser window where it displays runnig processs) and choose task manager. Select the Applications tab and select the running process you want to stop from the list and then click end task at the bottom of that window.
This will work for most programs.

I am running Windows XP - Internet Explorer and when I go into MSN or Yahoo a pop-up window keeps coming up with the "problem error report" and asks if I want to send a report. When I click yes or no - the web page disappears and I am back to my desktop.

Funny thing is while I am visiting this site - the message does not appear.

What's happening and how can I solve this problem.
Oh yes - I have not installed SP2. I'm to afraid. The other updates from Microsoft are up to date. I am sure that is not the problem.

Please help me understand this new problem I am having. Thank you.

A:Internet Explorer has encountered a problem ......" ?

you did not specify which version of ie youre using, if its not upgraded then try a newer version out. Without getting technical im going to have to say that youre solution would be to use Mozilla Firefox 1.0 from now on. Pop-up blocker, good looking interface, fast, and secure....oh yes it doesnt crash every 9 seconds either.

Everytime I go to my external HDD and open a certain folder with .avi files in them i get an error message that says:

"Windows Explorer has encountered and error and needs to close"

and I hit the DEBUG button and I get a Blue Screen of Death.

What should I do? It does this error every time I open the folder and windows explorer is not frozen or not taking much CPU.

A:Windows explorer has "Encountered An Error"

Hi .

I would try running chkdsk /r on that particular drive and my assumption would be that the data in that folder (or the folder itself) may be on hard drive sectors that are bad.

Start/My Computer...right-click on the drive in question, select Properties. Click Tools tab, push Check Now button. Put checks in both boxes, click Start and let it run to completion.

I would, as a prelim, run a very good malware scan of that drive, since I consider the possibility of malware when odd things happen.

A:Windows Explorer Encountered Error

sounds like your user account may be corrupted.

try going to the control panel, and select user accounts, then make a new account. reboot the computer and login with the new user account. try accessing your drives, and post back if you get the same error messages on the new user account.

HELP! Everytime I click on "MY Network Places", or print to my printer, I get the message "Windows Explorer has encountered an error.....Send Report.

I can still do what I need to do, but this error message is beyond annoying. Why does this happen? Any ideas?

A:Windows Explorer has encountered an error....

This could be caused by Adware, Spyware a virus or even Ram problems. Use spybot search and destroy and correct whatever problems it finds, then run the ad-aware. Next boot that system into safe mode and run a complete virus check. If the problem persists, try the following:
start->run and type following commands one by one.

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

Get spybot here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Get ad-aware here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Good Luck!!

This problem started a couple of weeks ago. certain sites will close instantly ie.. Ebay opens, I can buy or search...then I hit sell, enter password..I get bumped back to my start page. There are other sites that this happens to. We have been selling on ebay and this has never happened before. Any Ideas?
Thank you.
