SpywareBOT, cookie or Trojan?

Q: SpywareBOT, cookie or Trojan?

Someone please help.I ran my Spybot search & destroy and it found SpywareBOT, but it's listing it as cookie. So now i don't know if it was that i went to their site or if i'm infected. I've been running my McAfee but it hardly ever finds anything. While visiting one of those bad KeyGen sites tonight i got infected with a lot of things but this spywareBot is the only one that i can't find, other than that cookie mention. Please help, and thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: SpywareBOT, cookie or Trojan?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! A:Lost cause! Spyware/malware/any kinda virus/trojan/tracking cookie seems to like me.

It llooks like you've done a good job -

Turn off restore points, boot, turn them back on – here’s how

XP
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2001111912274039?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

That should clear up the reports of things found
================
DownLoad EasyCleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download414.html

Use the clear files and Unnecessary files buttons – I do not recommend
using the Duplicates files button as many dupes are there on purpose.

Not all files will delete – that is normal.

In the unnecessary button I check the top 4 entries

Empty the recycle bin
========
Get all of these and/or verify you have the current versions

SpywareBlaster 3.5 http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpyBot V1.4 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
AdAware SE 1.06 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
MS AntiSpy - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en (XP and W2K only)

DownLoad them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates and then run AdAware, MS AntiSpy (W2k/XP) and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
In SpyBot - After an update run immunize

Hello mephalina00, and welcome to TSF. You may wish to Subscribe to this thread so that you are notified when you receive a reply. To do this click Thread Tools (above the first post), then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes. Please do these steps in order and do not skip any.

HijackThis Is In Temp Folder
You are running HijackThis from a temporary directory. It needs to be in a permanent folder. Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C: then click on File > New > Folder and call it HJT, or another name of your choice. Extract HijackThis from the archive and move it to this folder. The program creates backup files that we may need to use later. If the program is in a Temporary folder, files may be deleted by you or automatically if your system is set to empty temp files.

Unhide Files
Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders". Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click OK.

Download CWShredder
Download CWShredder and run it. Click Check for Update. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and then click OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Download CleanUp!
Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

WARNING: CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any temporary folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

WARNING: Do not run cleanup under Windows XP x64 Edition. If you're not sure if you have the 64-bit version of Windows then you probably do not; however, you can check by using IE to download the whichcpu tool and then running it.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware
Please download, install, and update AVG Anti-Spyware Anti-Spyware.Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Shield tab at the topClick on the word active to change it to inactive.

Click the Update tab at the top:Under Manual update, click Start update. After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful".
Under Automatic update, change the Update interval to something more reasonable like 12 or 24 hours.

Click the Scanner tab at the top and then the Settings sub-tab:Under How to act?, click Recommended actions and select Quarantine.
Under Reports, select Automatically generate report after every scan

Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not run a scan with it yet.

Download Brute Force Uninstaller
Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.Right click bfu.zip on your desktop, and choose Extract All. Click "Next".
In the box to choose where to extract the files to, click "Browse".
Click on the + sign next to "My Computer".
Click on "Local Disk (C:) (or whatever your primary drive is).
Click "Make New Folder" and type in BFU. Click "Next".
Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download the Alcra PLUS Remover. Save it in the same folder you made earlier (i.e., C:\BFU).

Do not do anything with these yet!

I accidently downloaded SpywareBOT thinking I was getting Spybot Search&Destroy. When they wanted money to remove the results of their scan, I realized my mistake and declined. However, their software is still on my computer. It pops up at startup and preforms scans on its own at inappropriate times. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

One of the kids downloaded a program called spywarebot, which I know is listed as a rogue program, and I'm having a bugger of a time trying to remove it from my system. When I attempt to remove it through add/remove programs it tells me I can't remove it, and when i click cancel a "fatal error" message comes up. Anybody come across this before?

I am a confessed amature so please forgive me. I have searched this site and there are similar but not the same postings for my problem I think.
When I run spybot it flags spywareBOT of 2 entries but when I select the fix button it tells me that this cannot be removed. Is this an actual part of "spybot" or is this a malware of which I am not familiar.
Your help and or information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

spywareBOT is a rogue as opposed to SpyBot S&Dhttp://www.fbmsoftware.com/spyware-net/App...ion/SpywareBot/Use the Add/Remove program in Control Panel to uninstall Spywarebot. We need to disable Spybot S&D's "TeaTimer"TeaTimer works by preventing ANY changes to the system. It will attempt to undo any fixes we run, because it blocks these fixes from running. In order to safeguard your system from problems that can be brought on by a half finished fix, we need to disable TeaTimer. We can reenable it when we're done if you like.Open SpyBot Search and Destroy by going to Start -> All Programs -> Spybot Search and Destroy -> Spybot Search and Destroy. If prompted with a legal dialog, accept the warning.Click and then on "Advanced Mode"
You may be presented with a warning dialog. If so, press Click on Click on Uncheck this checkbox:
Close/Exit Spybot Search and DestroyNext run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

I've found a lot of spyware on my computer in the last few days and got rid of most of it but Spybot S&D found 'SpywareBOT... - 1 entry' which I'm sure I never installed. I tried to fix it the first time it was found by Spybot S&D but it came back when i scanned the next time. I have run scans with Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, Avast and Adaware to try and zap it all too but they don't find it. I've also run Kaspersky Online Scanner which didn't find it. I looked on msconfig and couldn't see any "SpywareBOT". Can someone help/suggest something that would find where/under what name it's lurking?

Thank you!

Hello hopefully this is as simple as turning off Teatimer in Spybot then Update and rescan with MBAM please post the log, thanksYou can disable TeaTimer 2 waysTo disable TeaTimer and remove its startup entry:Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > ResidentUncheck (if checked) the following:Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) Active. To temporarally close TeaTimer and restart it later:Right click Spybot's TeaTimer System Tray Icon > click Exit Spybot-S&D Resident.TeaTimer closes. I have just downloaded spywarebot today, and cleaned up as instructed. After doing so, i could no longer connect to INTERNET EXPLORER AND OUTLOOK EXPRESS, however i am sure this is not a connection broadband problem as i am on a different pc which is connected through the same broadband "hub" and this one is working well. So therefore i am sure that the spywarebot has caused these problems. Also my display and start menu has changed in appearence.
Everything is a complete mess.

Was just setting up new computer. Put on avg free first then went to download spybot but stupidly installed spyWAREbot.
have ran the real spybot it found three entries, all spywarebot. Said i could not remove as i am not the administartor but then seemed to anyway. however i know its not as easy as that and my computer is still running slowly. Uninstalled all virus software and installed official paid for kaspersky from pc world. It found nothing. However when starting pc it gives me a message at the early boot stage saying that something or rather is missing press cntl alt del to restart. Then all seems ok just running slowley. oh mind you, in the bottom right while running kaspersky it says: spywarebot2.zip ini is password protected???
AHH please help
Many thanks

A:Spywarebot Oops

Ok you probably need to install Spybot Search & Destroy again and Download and install Ad-aware 2007. To be honest kaspersky isn't the best and what are you going to do after it expires? Get something like SUPERAntispyware and/or Avast! AntivirusThis may help with the spywarebot problem. Also run an online scan like BitDefender'sSpywarebot is not a virus but it is an untrustworthy program tricking people into paying for nothing:Trusted: No, Trojan: No, Chronic: No, Adware: No, Carrier: No, Browser Hijacker: No, Dialer: NoCommercial Keylogger: No, Remote Administration Tool: Yes, Suspected: No There are many, many websites offering fakes of Spybot S&D costing you money and infecting your computer. Be careful what you download and refer to the Rogue/Suspect Antispyware Products and Websites List

i recently brought spyware bot and installed it.then a friend told me it is actually spyware it self.what should i do...

Relevancy 46.44%

I accidentally installed Spywarebot a few weeks ago instead of Spybot. I realized my mistake almost as soon as it finished installing and attempted uninstalling. This was before finding this site and just used windows add/remove programs.

I seem to have some part of it still on my system as every time I bot up, Spybot tells me some program (the uninstaller?) is asking for permission to remove Spywarebot from the registry.

I found a thread in this forum on removing it. I folowed through the instructions there. None of the files those instructions said to remove seemed to be there. I'm still being asked every time I boot.

The thread I found was not a waste of time though. It got rid of 12.8 GB of temporary files I knew were there someplace, but couldn't find.

PLEASE HELP
tks

A:Spywarebot nightmare:please help

Hi, beaneo14

Welcome.

Please run Spywarebot once again, but this time restore all quarantined items. Restart the computer and attempt a connection.

The topic is self explanatory. I actually paid for it, thinking it was Spybot. When I run Spybot, it identifies SpywareBot as a problem. Should I undertake to remove it?

Secondly, if it is some sort of malware, I feel like I should attempt to get my money back, maybe through my credit card company.

Of course, I feel like an idiot for buying it if it is malicious.

Thanks

SpywareBot promptly refunded my money SpywareBot seemed to work OK although I had no real malware on my computer to remove It removed quot cookies quot and adware both of which Windows Disk Cleanup will do The McAfee site gave spywareBot an OK grade Most other independent sites cautioned on using it Most sites praising it are obviously quot affiliates quot who make money dispensing it My take is spywareBot has evolved from a highly suspect spy cleaner My Experience With SpywareBot ... on to being a satisfactory one I also suspect that dissidents in the spywareBot development are now trying to bad mouth it The quot Live Chat quot staff is pleasant and accessible a good feature but state they are unaware of negative comments on their product I directed them to Google to view for themselves I suggested and still do that they review and answer these negative comments It would seem like good business to do so After removing spywareBot via the Windows Control Panel I downloaded the REAL SpyBot - Search amp Destroy which removed left-over spywareBot items Summary SpywareBot users will have to decide for themselves on the merits of this software but they can get their money back nbsp

I seem to have a problem getting all of the SpywareBot stuff off my computer. I went in and took care of it on the add and remove programs but for some reason there is still a file on my C drive. When I do a search to find what else is there from Spywarebot it also comes up with SpywareBotSrv.srv. So both the folder and this are in my program files. All I want to do is try and get this completely off my computer. Please help!!

I just ran A2 program this morning and it found "program files\SpywareBot\AdwareAlert.exe-boot" as adware. When A2 tries to delete it, spybot tells me it is trying to reinstall in the startup file. If I refuse to allow the installation in the startup folder, it pops up again, over and over.

Any ideas what to do ?

I have a related problem with a startup monitor I got, I think from Kim Komando's site. Since spybot does the same thing, I tried to delete it using add/remove programs. Same problem... it keeps reinstalling itself.

How do I delete these? The startup monitor program does not show up in add/remove programs now, but I think it is still there.

thanks for a great site.

A:Can't Remove Spywarebot Vestige

Welcome to BC I suggest you follow the directions in this guide. Then create an HJT log, you will find the directions in the guide.Create a new topic in this forum, not here and give it a good descriptive title. Briefly summarize what the problems are, what you have done to try to solve it, and what worked and didn't work and paste in your HJT log. After you post your log, DO NOT make any further changes to your computer: deleting files, editing the registry, using special fix tools, installing or uninstalling software etc. as this will make it more difficult for the HJT team to help you. Please be patient as the HJT team is very busy. DO NOT bump your log as the team may think that someone is already helping you. If you have not had a response in five days, add a response to the five days no response topic and paste in the link to your thread.Orange Blossom

So was just setting up new pc, first things first anti virus and such like. Installed avg free and then went to download spybot but accidently installed spyWAREbot. Realised my mistake as soon as i opened it, so uninstalled imediatley. But pc has started running slowly ran the real spybot and it found three entrys (spywarebot). clicked fix selected, got a message saying that i could not complete this action as i am not the administrator but then it seemed to complete it anyway.

Also when i restarted vista to finish kaspersky at the early stage (boot stage??)it said that something was missing, press cntr alt del to restart. Can't remember what it said was missing and am worried to try again incase it does'nt start.

I accidentally installed Spywarebot instead of Spybot. I have uninstalled it and used Spybot and CCleaner on it. Most of it is gone, but it seems to have hijacked a service or something because every time I delete the following registry setting it immediately reappears. No matter if Spybot, CCleaner or I manually delete it - it is right back. I have seen a lot on problems getting rid of Spywarebot but nothing that adresses this specific problem. When deleted in safe mode it does not come back right away, but does return when I boot back into normal mode. The reg entry is:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot

What keeps putting this back??????

Thanks.

A:Spywarebot Registry Entry Can't Be Deleted

SpywareBot is a program that is listed as a rogue on the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products List. "Rogue/Suspect" means that these products are of unknown, questionable, or dubious value as anti-spyware protection.Did you use the program's uninstaller or Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel? Its not uncommon for uninstallers to miss some of the associated registry entries during removal. Did you physically search for SpywareBot.exe to ensure it has been removed?C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exeIf its no longer present, download AutoRunsCreate a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if your not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to SpywareBot.exe.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer.

Hi, unfortunately I downloaded and installed spywarebot instead of spybot S + D. I uninstalled it as soon as I realised it was the wrong program. I run spysweeper and it keeps popping up every other second saying ' the internet communication shield has blocked access to :KITEHOSTING.COM ' for example.

The amount of things it is blocking is crazy. The window pops up so much running any program is very difficult. Can you help get rid of whatever spy stuff is making this happen.

Thanks

Hello all My laptop was hit with a multiple virus infection while using Firefox Symantec seemed to have taken care of things at the time but I was still having some problems and it didn't seem to be able to get rid of TDSS I disabled system restore and tried to clean the registry manually but wasn't able to find all the entries listed on the Symantec site I disabled the TDSS driver via the control panel MBAM wouldn't install so I tried Spybot which found a few other issues Finally I was able to install MBAM and HJT from a disc and connected back to the internet again briefly to update both I ran CCCleaner then MBAM in safe mode and MBAM seems to have cleaned everything both MBAM and HJT scans looked ok afterwards though there Trojan.Agent, Trojan.Vundo, Malware.Trace... A:Multiple Virus Infection: Trojan.Vundo, Trojan.VundoH, Trojan.BHO, Trojan.TDSS, Trojan.Agent, Trojan.Downloader, Malware.Trace...

My name is BHowett and I will be helping you to get sorted. If for any reason you do not understand any of the instructions, or are just unsure then please do not guess , simply post back with your question, and we will go through it again. This seems like a tech issue and not a malware problem, but lets take a look and see what we find.Sorry for the delay, please do the following...ComboFix Please ownload ComboFix from Here or Here* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt, and a fresh Hijackthis log in your next reply.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Getting the cookie bar on this website again. This time I followed the link to a UK web site...https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-pecr/cookies-and-similar-technologies/. While the site does use a secure connection it is placing cookies on my machine and not notifying me of the fact, or asking my permission, LOL. While I do not allow third party or session cookies as a normal course of action I do normally allow first party cookies. Hypocrites, do as we say, not as we do. Vista Home Premium SP BitDefender Internet Security Just recently BDIS is finding this Cookie o virus It removes it but the next scan finds it again Yesterday the scan found two of these and the Cookie.2o7.net second was called Cookie doubleclick or something like that That one didn't show up today I have scanned with Spyware Doctor SUPERAntispyware and Malwarebytes and nothing is found with these programs I have gone into Tools Internet Options Security Restricted Sites Sites and tried to add this item to Cookie.2o7.net the list and it tells me this is Cookie.2o7.net already listed in another zone and I have to remove it from there before adding it here I went to Tools Internet Options Privacy Settings Sites and found this item listed there so I removed it and then went back to the above location to try and add it and was given the same message so I added in back to this location I checked my cookie settings and I have selected to block rd party cookies Is there any way I can get rid of this

Hi,

Can't get rid of the '64.111.196' cookie that keeps showing up on Xoftspy and Malwarebytes scans.

It is hijacking my google search almost always.
Any help?

A:64.111.196 cookie won't go away

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, can you do the following:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
Click the Scanning Control tab.
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.

Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.

Click Close to exit the program.

A:bad cookie

Just to see if it's a browser related issue, try this:
Make sure Firefox is closed. Press Win+R, type firefox.exe -profilemanager and press enter. Make yourself a new profile and try the site.
Other passwords are still saved?
Make sure to post back.

hello everyone

In the last few days i have been getting adware tracking cookies on my computer
What are they, are they dangerous, why do i keep getting them and can i stop this
from happening.

A:tracking cookie

Most cookies are benign in nature and not a cause for concern. You will find that every session of browsing will ultimately lead to some cookies being placed on your computer.

However, if you wish to get rid of these there are many programs that will delete them for you. I personally use this:-

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

Select the Free Edition, install and then run the program.

Alternatively, depending on your browser, you can select the option to delete all cookies when your internet session is over and you close the browser.

My work computer got upgraded from IE6.1 to IE7. I can't find where the cookies are kept now. Tried 3 things with no luck:
1. from IE 7 menu: tools-internet options-settings-view files and it goes to the same dir as IE6.1
2. from Windows Explorer: right clicked on the local settings directory, gone to properties-general-and unchecked hidden
3. wrote a cookie and then searched for it by name

I am sure cookie values are being used and that new ones are being made.

1. Where are they on IE7 ?
2. How do I get to them ?
3. Are they not being written to the disk and just in memory ?

A:Cookie Saver?

In addition to what you're already using, I'd suggest Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D.Please read this tutorial on Spybot S&D before using it. Spybot can do SERIOUS damage, if not used properly. We also have a tutorial on using Ad-Aware SE.Sorry, but I don't know of any good 3rd party cookie managers.I just use the one in Firefox, and it does all I need.

I just looked this up, I had downloaded it long ago when I first had a computer and wasn't sure how to use it then.

Turns out it's only a free trial and then has to be "bought".

Since I'm on a very limited budget, I try to find things that are FREE.

Anyone know the name of something similar that is free?

I would like to set it up so I can save some cookies (I want, like T.V.Guide Channel settings) and get rid of the rest, without having to go over them one by one.

Thanks,
Carrie

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5
Scroll down to the download section

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

In IE7 Tried tools - internet options - settings - view files and although I get a display of the same dir as I did in IE6.1, there's nothing in it. "0 objects".

In Windows Explorer I right clicked on local settings-went to c:\documents and settings\...\local settings - properties and unchecked hidden.

In Windows Explorer I searched for a cookie by name and did not find it.

Hi, newbie here

I've recently taken initiative to improve browser privacy and security by adding uBlock Origin, uMatrix and HTTPS Everywhere to my Chromium browser, but I'm not sure how to approach cookies and site data. I've set uMatrix to delete local storage content set by blocked hostnames, but what about site data not in blocked hostnames? This seems to accumulate quickly.

What I want to do here is block all sites from setting any data with the exception of sites which I need session cookies for logins. Would it be better to rather store these cookies and site data, and clear local storage on exiting the browser? Or is the entire concept of deleting data not in blocked hostnames just unnecessary?

A:Cookie Management

Cookies are harmless + block them will cause trouble to view the websites correctly , either go to Incognito Mode/Private Browsing/In Private where contents will not be save or assign the browser to close and clean them.

Hi,

For the last few days my PC has been loosing the cookie for my ISPs homepage when re-starting or coming out of hibernation. This happens with both IE8 and Firefox. I have contacted Trend Micro support but so far none of their solutions have been effective. They have also analysed a Hijackthis log and concluded there was nothing sinister going on.

This only happens to the Optus (my ISP) cookie, but Optus are denying any problems.

I have originally posted in the XP Support forum, but one of your folks suggeted I post here.

Does anyone have any suggestions, please?

Rob.

A:Cookie Problem

Hello -

I hate to give you a runaround, but I have my doubts about a cookie issue like that being malware related. I would ask back in Windows section, or in Internet Explorer subforum.

That said, you would need to post logs as indicated in the link provided by Speedster if you want help in this section of the forum. We work from logs as well as issue description.

HijackThis is woefully inadequate for many of today's infections. We don't use it as our initial analysis tool.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Quote:

Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps

link at the top of each page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed. I currently have as many open topics as I can effectively handle; this will have you back in queue with the proper logs so an available helper would be able to assist.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

Is there a program out there (free) that will let you keep track of cookies, and maybe letting you know a little bit about them? Like where they came from, also a program to let you track all the hits that you get while on line from other computers?

A:cookie tracking?

I know that Adaware will allow you to keep track of cookies and if you right click on the cookie shown it will give you a description on it. Also, if you go to the Adaware web site after you have run it there is more information there concerning what you have found in the course of your scan. I'm not sure about the second part of your question.

AVG warns of Euroclick tracking cookie ... cannot heal. Should this be of concern?
Thanks.

A:Euroclick cookie

Cookies are text string messages given to a Web browser by a Web server. Whenever you visit a web page or navigate different pages with your browser, the web site generates a unique ID number which your browser stores in a text (cookie) file that is sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from that server. Cookies allow third-party providers such as ad serving networks, spyware or adware providers to track personal information. The main purpose of cookies is to identify users and prepare customized Web pages for them. The type of cookie that is a cause for some concern are "tracking cookies" because they can be considered a privacy risk. These types of cookies are used to track your Web browsing habits (your movement from site to site). Ad companies use them to record your activity on all sites where they have placed ads. They can keep count of how many times you visited a web page, store your username and password so you don't have to log in and retain your custom settings. When you visit one of these sites, a cookie is placed on your computer. Each time you visit another site that hosts one of their ads, that same cookie is read, and soon they have assembled a list of which of their sites you have visited and which of their ads that you have clicked on. They are used all over the Internet and advertisement companies often plant them whenever your browser loads one of their banners. Cookies are NOT a "threat". As text files they cannot be executed to cause any damage. Cookies do not cause any pop ups nor do they install malware. As long as you surf the Internet, you are going to get cookies and some of your security programs will flag them for removal. However, you can minimize this by reading "Blocking & Managing Unwanted Cookies" and "Block Third-Party Cookies in IE7".

Hello all! I have a simple question, I was wondering with internet explorer, a pop up ad that pops up in a seperate window and you block it, does it leave a cookie? ( this is for Windows 8) does white listing it make a cookie?

A:Cookie for blocking an ad

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

It will leave a cookie and it will download the images on that website. To prevent that, you can use something like this:

I have a Dell Inspiron. Windows Vista. I have a tracking cookie that keeps coming back. I had Mcafee, it wouldn't find anything. Changed to Symantec. Found tracking cookie and trojans. It will find the cookie several times a day and delete it but it comes back. I also can't use search engines. I have to copy and paste when possible because I get rerouted if I click a link. How do I once and for all get rid of a tracking cookie?

A:Tracking cookie won't go away

A good Anti-Virus program that is Free to use and is highly recommended here is: Microsoft Security Essentials. http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx

You will need to uninstall Symantec first if you decide to use MSE.

Also recommended:

Be sure to Update each before running your scans.

When I run certain executable files this alert will prompt. It seems to be generating different .txt files each time, which seems to indicate symptoms of a type of worm infection. I will submit an image of the encounter. I have ran full scans on the following, AVG, Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, CCLeaner. Any help in regards to this is topic will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Seasick

A:Tracking Cookie?

Hello Seasick, these are cookies and not a worm.A cookie is a text string that is included with Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) requests and responses. Cookies are used to maintain state information as you navigate different pages on a Web site or return to the Web site at a later time. This article provides information about cookies.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260971/?sd=RMVPWhy we remove them..In addition to the privacy issues, cookies carry security implications as well. Many sites use cookies to implement access control schemes of various sorts. For example, a subscription site that requires a user name and password might pass a cookie back to your browser the first time you log in. Thereafter, the site will give you access to restricted pages if your browser can produce a valid cookie, basically using the cookie as an admission ticket. This can have several advantages for the site, not the least of which is that it can avoid the overhead of looking up your user name and password in a database each and every time you access a page. However, unless this type of system is implemented carefully, it may be vulnerable to exploitation by unscrupulous third parties. For instance, an eavesdropper armed with a packet sniffer could simply intercept the cookie as it passes from your browser to the server, using it to obtain free access to the site. Because browsers use the domain name system (DNS) to determine what cookies belong to a server, it is possible to trick a browser into sending a cookie to a rogue server by temporarily subverting the DNS. If the cookie is persistent, of course, it is also vulnerable to being stolen from the user's cookie database file.http://www.w3.org/Security/Faq/wwwsf2.html#CLT-Q10

It is a tracking cookie. It is designed to track your browsing habits. It is not dangerous as such, and is easily deleted.

We will do that after you have run the malware scan.
