Q: BIOS update went wrong, need help please

Hi, i was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Last night i updated my bios (ASUS M2N4-SLI), unfortunately during the update the power went off in the house when i boot now nothing happens, the keyboard and mouse are not even booting. There is power to the motherboard but i can?t get a boot screen or anything, is there any way that i can sort this out?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Unfortunately there is little you can do if the flashing has failed. If the motherboard does not POST, you are most-likely looking at a paperweight. There may be a bit of hope if your mainboard has a chip socket (meaning you can physically pull the BIOS chip) but most are soldered right to the PCB. If you can remove the BIOS chip, you can send it to BIOSMAN where they will replace it and reflash the corrupt chip. I've used them before, it's a very good service.

As far as soldered goes, I'm afraid that's tough luck. Replace the motherboard.

a friend gave me his HP DV6500 Notebook to fix it. He said it made an update and then for hours nothing happened. He shut it and started again.

I could see that it tried to recover 2 times. The second time it was successful but it somehow resetted or returned the Vista to a fresh install!!! His data was locked in a previous User account, I backed it up on a usb-stick with a linux live cd.

I can't make a reinstall because now a bluescreen always appears even when I boot from Vista DVD.

ntoskrnl.exe corrupt when try to boot vista in the normal way.
How can I fix that without being able to use the repair option of the DVD?
Sorry, the title of the thread is wrong. I figured out already that the BIOS version is for an Intel. So everything is ok with the BIOS actually.

A:Solved: HP DV6500 Notebook wrong BIOS update by HP update function?

Ok, I could fix it after following instructions from this page:

The Txf-log had to be removed and afterwards I was able to use the repair function of the Vista DVD again.

if the flasher let you revert to a previous version, yes, try it.(not always the best thing to do, reverting to a previous BIOS version) if not and your system is stable, i would leave it as it is.

You could try a BIOS rollback to previous version.  1-Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key.2-When the menu appears, tap F2 for System Diagnostics.3-In the list of items will be BIOS or Firmware Management.Use the arrow key to move down & highlight it.Press Enter key.4-You should now have a Rollback BIOS option.Use arrow key again to highlight and press Enter key.

I hope this is posted in the right place.

I think I have messed up my computer big time and need some advice.

I was trying to update the BIOS on my Medion 8838 because I wanted to use more than 4GB of ram.

I downloaded the BIOS update from the Medion website booted the computer into DOS and applied the update.

Everything seemed to run smoothly with the update and when it finished my computer rebooted but just kept on turning on for about 2 seconds and then turning off again like it is stuck in a loop.

Now whenever I plug in the computer this loop of turning on and off starts again.

I have tried resetting the CMOS but to no avail.

I am seeking advice on what I can do.

Is this fixable?
Do I need a new motherboard?
Is my computer dead?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

A few days ago i found an update for my BIOS. It was installing without any problems, but around halfway of the intallation, a power surge caused my computer to shutdown. When the computer booted back up I got this message. This is all I get, I can't access the BIOS or anything pass this
I tried removing the CMOS battery, I also tried to cross the jumpers, all with no luck. This only leads me to believe the BIOS itself is corrupted. I heard there is a way to fix the BIOS by using something called flashing. Could someone show me how to do this?

A:Bios update gone wrong

Flashing your BIOS is what you where doing. Depending on your system you may be able to use the Boot CD to restore the BIOS to it's factory default. If your PC is older then you will need to contact the manufacture (or a local non big box repair shop) and get a new BIOS ROM chip.

Unfortunately? if something went wrong during the BIOS update, then you will not be able to solve this without an help from an ASP technician?

Hopefully the BIOS ROM module is not damage?
In worst case the mobo is damage but maybe it?s not damaged?

However?. You have to get in contact with an local ASP and should ask for further handling!

Good luck!

Any advice from you guys to solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance.

A:Wrong BIOS update and now the system doesn't boot! Plz help..

A great big OUCH!

You could try reflashing it with the correct one if it will get that far. But it probably wont even boot to floppy now... The only way I can think of is to remove the BIOS chip and reflaash it in a programmer

Thats exactly why I never flash a BIOS unless its absolutly needed.

SupportAssist selects the E5530 version of bios update, which fails to install.
Workaround is to to manually select and install.
Also does not seem to be able to actually install the chipset update it claims to have, as the option will re-appear the next time SupportAssist is started.
Might explain the missing webcam.

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

Please navigate to:

Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

A:updated to wrong bios :/

All the Gigabyte boards I've known come with DualBios which does a backup of your BIOS before flashing it. Now, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to keep trying to flash it non stop. Once the first flash failed, you should tried to revert to the old BIOS.

What you should try to do now is go to the Gigabyte website, look for your board & get an OFFICIAL BIOS & try to update using that one.

& never, ever, ever try to fiddle with that again.

If you messed up the Bios it needs to be flashed to the right revision

are you even able to get a post screen ? if not then Im not sure if clearing cmos would help

I would call Toshiba tech support they might be able to give you a bios to install

Question though why would you update the bios ? especially on a Lappy most of the time when you buy a Lappy pretty much leave as is unless the update is super important

Most of the time updated Bios updates compadible cpu's or updated memory controler not work wrecking your unit over

Not wrong Bios flash gone sure if this is the right section for this post but here goes anyways I have a compaq R laptop in which I had previously been trying to diagnose a Bios flash gone wrong problem with erratic BSOD s During the course of diagnosis I had found through another Bios flash gone wrong thread that one problem was a possible video card driver error during reboot I had noticed that I had gotten a Bios flash gone wrong bios error of some sort never seen it before and I didnt get to write it down The bios error only happened once and the computer was able to post into windows after a reboot After reboot I had downloaded and installed an older version of the video card driver I had thinking maybe the newest version had some bugs in it and I downloaded a brand new updated bios firmware flash apparently I had an outdated bios by two years Thinking that the error was somehow related to an outdated bios firmware I had gladly dowloaded the program to flash my bios The instructions seemed simple just run the program and what not and it was pretty self explainatory I did such to encounter that about percent into the flash I had gotten an IRQ LESS OR EQUAL BSOD I literally flew off the handle because I knew that that was the end of the story for this laptop Sure enough after a hard reset I had a no post condition with a blank screen no bios startup no nothing I had noticed that it was seeking the Dvd-rom but that was about it I was furious at this point because I had not had any BSOD problems for a good or boots and I had been up and running for about a half hour flawlessly I had diligently been looking for a solution to this problem and found a Boot Block Recovery program for the Phoenix Bios my laptop has As it stands I havent been able to get it to work I have been utilizing a newly purchased external usb floppy drive a crisis recovery utility boot disk with all the necessary boot files and the bios rom file I think my problem lies within the autoexec bat file commands but im not sure as I have never encountered this problem before My autoexec bat currently reads quot PHLASH mode X xxx WPH quot and I have tried several other commands and even a UNIFlash utility producing the same results During boot block recovery procedure the computer will start the process beep once then give me a - beep error code and then the floppy will initialize read stop read for about seconds and then stop again no more beeps no more floppy drive seeks no nothing just dead silence and fan noise If anyone has any suggestions or comments on this please please help if its just user error and I can get this paperweight to work once more it would be fantastic I really dont want to have to spend dollars on a new laptop Thanks in advance nbsp

It's very unlikely that the machine would work at all with an incorrect BIOS. Everest tries to access BIOS features from a Windows environment and has varying success with it. I wouldn't worry about anything that it tells you, or necessarily believe it.

If your machine has no problems, you are in dangerous territory trying to make changes to BIOS.

I updated the BIOS on my ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mb. I used the latest updater (2.11) and BIOS file (1021). The updater worked fine but when it was thru, a msg came up saying "checksum error." I rebooted it and it just read the HD. I shut it off & restarted and the BIOS screen came up & had a msg about overclocking being messed up. I haven't overclocked it. I tried to reset it to default & went in & set some other stuff but to no avail. To even get into the BIOS screen I have to shut it off & start it from scratch. Anyone know how I get it to boot again??? Thanks.

A:BIOS display on the wrong screen

It's how the computer display adapters are listed out. And yes it's correct having 4 outputs.

The computer is spitting out the display adapter of the hdmi as #1, and will always display that output first if connected. Even though it's not on, so as long as you have the hdmi plugged in, the computer sense its an active connection.

If you give me somemore system info, I can get more specific.

A:BIOS Updated But.... (Sorry If In Wrong Place)

I can't say without seeing the release notes on the bios update, Generally they will only fix one problem at a time. Often it's compatibility for hardware that you may not even have. Meaning you will be unaffected by the update at all.

A:Flashed Bios now cpu is at wrong speed, Please help

Well I'm not familar with the XP BIOS settings, but you should have two things, an FSB clock setting, usually 200MHz and a CPU multiplier setting, usually X9 to X11. So that 200X10=2000MHz.
But it seems to me that you might have installed the wrong BIOS, very odd that default settings for your mobo would have changed to that degree.
Did you try setting BIOS to fail safe defaults?

A:Bios displays wrong HD size

Did you put the correct 80-prong ATA-100/133 cable on?
As far as I know, a BIOS only recognizes the combined size of the first 4 partitions of any HD, so if your 5th partition is about 15GB that explains dhe difference.

A:Updated the wrong revision/Bios

You should be able to flash (it's not an update, the old BIOS gets completely erased first, and the new one is written in its place) the BIOS just fine after a CMOS clear.
I got to say, I'm pretty amazed the Rev 2.0's BIOS even worked, as long as you're running stable, you'll be fine after re-flashing the BIOS, as long as anything doesn't catastropihcally fail completely disregardless of your little oopsie.

Clearing the CMOS: some boards (not yours) have a button/other thingy that you can simply use for the operation, but with old/low-end boards, you can just unplug your computer from wall, empty the capacitors by pressing the power button for ~5 secs (fans will nudge and lights will blink, most probably), then remove the CMOS cell battery from the motherboard, and wait a while. A minute or two should do, but if you have some other chores you can take care of in the meanwhile, it doesn't hurt to wait half an hour or more. The CMOS should drain almost instantly, but... *shrug* If you don't instantly need the system, why not "play safe" (and a bit silly I guess, but it's just how I see it fit somehow. If it can't hurt you, why not. Sorry, /ramble off)
Rather than clearing the CMOS, it should also be sufficient to load the failsafe or default settings from within BIOS.

Hi, I saw the new BIOS version 1.25 dated ?14?.?09?.?2016 appearing on Lenovos support site. I did not check the version I was having on my system before downloading the "new BIOS", so I started the installer and the tool told me I already have this BIOS version. msinfo32.exe tells me I am having BIOS 1.25 dated 13.07.2016. So apparently the BIOS was released already some time ago and I already flashed it to 1.25. So whats the point of re-releasing the 1.25? If there are any changes of todays version compared to the 1.25 released some time ago, is it worth flashing? If yes, how can I do this if the tool tells me I am already having the latest version and it does not let me override my BIOS? Thanks and best regards,Martin

I flashed my BIOS a couple weeks ago and I ended up using the wrong one. I used Everest to check what version my BIOS was because I didn't feel like rebooting, which was stupid of me. Anyways, my computer is working fine. The only thing that I have noticed is that I cannot boot off of a CD. I have found the correct BIOS update here and was wondering how I can format the disk and copy the files without using an IBM pre-formatted disk because I have used up all of my pre-formatted disks.

This may also not be an issue that is caused by me attempting to install the wrong BIOS update. At the end of the BIOS update it says that it fails, but I'm not sure if it still copies some files or not. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I've bought a new WD 120 gig hard drive in advance of my Maxtor 80 gig failing - SMART alarm. In trying to solve some other problems and mirroring the drive, the 120 gig is now listed as a 33 gig.
BIOS says:
33821 MB
Cyl 65530
Head 16
Sector 63

BIOS did show the drive coming up correctly - previously. I do currently have a 60 and 80 gig install which bios sees properly. BIOS is at latest update.

I've tried WD SW, partition magic, fdisk, format, all options stop at 33gig.

Why would the BIOS now see this 120 gig lower - auto or manually. What could I've done to the drive and how to reverse.

Swapped HD's to verify that both disks were OK. FX150 reads Disk Error when I insert the disk formatted on the 505. FX150 reads other HD's just fine.
Anybody seen this before?

This morning I wake up and power on the computer to get a suprise greeting that my Western Digital 120G had S.M.A.R.T error. I went into the CMOS, and instead of detecting it as WD1200, it shows WD1000. (Did not make any changes on my computer before I turn it off)

Going to Windows XP, from disk manager, it shows the drive is not format and the capacity is 6G.

Any suggestion on what to do??

hi there all, im running a dual boot configuration with xp64 and vista 64 ultimate i have just updated my processor to dual core amd 64 4400.
wonder if any any 1 can help me out please? i have just flashed my bios (had to do this to get vista to recognize new processor dont ask but it works now) Cant work out how to change my bios setting to say ddr400
ihave 4 strips of ddr 400 installed and when i boot up screen comes up ddr333 i have never had problem before till flashed bios! im running a dfi infinity nf4 sli motherboard but cant figure out what setting in my bios to change to get it to say ddr 400 instead of ddr333. my pc keeps freezing randomly in vista with a clean install but when i boot into xp64 it runs fine.
Please help thank you.

A:Memory problems !!bios detecting wrong ram

There is not a significant detectable difference between DDR333 and DDR400.
Does it work ok otherwise?
You might want to try flashing the BIOS one more time to see if it will accept the BIOS update. Often the motherboard will reject the flash if the BIOS is the same.

A:Wrong Password, then bios doesn't work

We cannot help with password problems as per the rules. It does seem that you may have some other problem as well. I would try the following;
1 System OFF, pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical.
2 Remove any add-in cards such as nic, sound, etc. Leave your video card installed however do make sure it is fully seated.
3 Clear cmos with the clear jumper. Note gigabyte does not use a jumper pe se. Gigabyte boards just have two pins that you momentarily short to clear cmos. If in doubt, read your mb manual.
4 Now pw ON and see if the board will complete POST ie you get a display and receive a msg regarding no operating system found. If the board does complete POST, shutdown and start connecting devices one at a time until you find the failed part. If it does not complete POST in the above config, then you need to start swapping parts with known good units; ie mb, ram, pw supply, etc.

I download stuff all the time, and sometimes I disable my antivirusClick to expand...

I would REALLY stop doing the above. You are just asking for a problem. If you must download stuff, use a linux machine. Linux is much less susceptible to a virus.

Type configsys in search. go to the advanced tab. Check for "max memory" it should be unchecked.

I just upgraded my notebook memory from 2gb to 4gb...
The original memory was samsung 2gb. then i add 2gb corsair memory
when i checked on taskmanager i got 4001 mb instead of 4096mb. Also when i check with SIW (system information for windows) software, there is a
"memory:wrong value reported by BIOS" notification.
additional information: both memory sodimm ddr3 pc 10600 1333 mhz
i've tried 1) msconfig unchecked maximum memory and 2) swap the RAM place (A to B, B to A). Still the same...

What can I do to fix this wrong value...?

Thank you so much as always for the great people here...

Post manufacturer & model of computer. Is this a desktop or a laptop?

If it's a desktop, post manfacturer and model of Power Supply.
Also post temps and voltages as reported in BIOS.

It may be a Power Supply problem. (Less likely) your CMOS battery could also be low. Did you clear the CMOS before running the New Install?

How did you run the New Install; from a DVD or from a partition off the Hard Drive?

Hello Experts,
I have mistakenly flashed the wrong BIOS from E6410 to the E4310, now the laptop is starting with a blank screen, only wireless LED is on (Solid), and Caps Lock led.
My question is: is this system recoverable?
What I have already tried:

Latitude self-healing option which didn’t work.
Extracting the hdr file from this bios is not possible, as the package does not support the -writehdrfile option.

How it happened? I have a FreeDOS USB flash disk with all the model we have in our company, BIOSes are classified in folders, and the two laptops are very similar, with 1” screen difference

A:Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

I have the same board on another pc.

You only need to download and install only that which would make your setup current.

You really only need to update the bios if you will be moving up to a newer processor that is not currently supported by the current bios or if the newer bios fixes a known problem.

You need the latest motherboard chipset driver. (I would install this first if you haven't already)

You need the latest LAN driver.

The audio driver you can either download from Asus or from RealTek.

Lately, I have installed 2x 4 GB RAM sticks into my HP Slimline s5-1200z a few hours ago, however, upon doing this, my graphics for my games have been messing up, and sometimes my AMD video driver will crash, causing major annoyance when trying to play any games I intend to play. When I downloaded an application called Portable SIW, I noticed something quite alarming, as shown in the picture below, circled.

Here is a second picture for reference.

And for another reference.

Any possible reason for this to occur? Thanks if you can help.

A:BIOS reports wrong values in RAM, crashing AMD video card

Well; since you are saying the bios is reporting wrong values; you probably should check your system board "builders" site to check for any bios updates that may hopefully correct this issue. If not; also check the ram modules one by one to make sure non of them are bad and that none of the ram slots are possibly bad. Take all ram sticks out and put one at a time back in and see if you can pinpoint the issue.

well, they ask for BIOS UPDATE, gather your bios version n brand name, go for appropriate site nd have update..?
but the question that arise in my mind..(being tech student and encounter this bootstrap loader numerous times) is
BIOS IS A "ROM" CHIP, and so we must only be able to read from it..
then how is it possible to write on it and update the BIOS and more over, in my college books i find.. if u want to update your bios then u have to change your entire chip or sometime even motherboard

hopefully i will find sufficient answer.. thanx for anyhelp
