Preferred Solution: My computer is freezing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Those idle temps are really high. I think your case isn't providing for much aurflow. What case are you using? Also, what are the ambient temperatures like?

A:Newly built computer random freezing and freezing on starting windows

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Thanks,

A:Random Computer Freezing - Need to hard restart after freezing No BSOD

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

Hello.

Personally, I think you should click on the "report" link of your post and ask the moderator to move your thread to the malware removal forum, to be certain that the malware is gone.

It is possible that the programs you listed have missed a nasty piece of malware.

A:Solved: Computer Freezing/freezing/graphical glitchs

If you're getting graphical 'glitches' while in bios, that's usually a good sign that your graphics card is having issues - however, I have seen this happen with faulty ram. I'd recommend reseating the cards (ensure your computer is off and unplugged whilst doing so) and see if that helps

A:Computer Freezing; Slowing Down. But mostly freezing. I have my HiJackThis! Log File.

I don't see anything in your log or your description of your problem to come to the conclusion that your problem is malware related. When there is malware present there will always be other internet related symptoms like popups or a browser hijack etc...

I will advise you to uninstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as the version you have is very old and no longer supported. It in now called Windows Defender.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Go through this now and see if it helps:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

Defrag your HD:

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.

Go here for info on msconfig:

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

You can look up the startups at the following links to help determine what is needed and what is not:

so I got a computer that keeps freezing up on me. sometimes it runs for hours before hanging, and sometimes it hangs every 5-10 minutes.

I ran memtest and it seemed to freeze up during memtest. the little blinking icon was normal, but the test wasnt running and the commands didnt work.

does this mean that my memory sticks are bad?

Had the day from hell with my computer, antivirus stopped working and my computer got infected. On safe mode with networking, I ran malwarebyte a couple times, cleaned most all of it out. When rebooting to windows, computer became super slow, like 5 minutes to open a window, etc. I had to force reboot a few times. But then I started getting a screen that demanded a reboot disk. Only one I have is. a windows vista disc. I had windows 7. It won't let me even get that blue startup screen where I can push f keys.
Can anyone give me some advice, or do I need to just get a new hard drive.

A:computer infected , cleaned, bsod, freezing, now computer wants boot disk

Welcme,
The problem isn't the hard drive, it's that you are still infected.
I'm going to ask a moderator to move this thread into Am I Infected so that you can work with one of the expert volunteers there to get your system cleaned correctly.

A:I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

A:Computer freezing entirely, odd pictures popping up on screen while computer turns on

Hello snow_yehti and welcome,

Unfortunately, there is nothing readily apparent in this log. We'll run a few tools and see if any malware is revealed.

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

******************************************************

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the programOnce you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on " Recommended actions" and then select " Quarantine".
Under "Reports"Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet. (Not Recommended for XP64).

------------------------------------------------

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
5) Login with your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

------------------------------------------------

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! or move them to a permanent location.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the "Temporary Files" and uncheck the box for "Scan drives for file matching" if it's checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Do NOT reboot/logoff when prompted.

------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions" **Please ensure it is set to Quarantine
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
Close AVG Anti-Spyware.
**AVG Anti-Spyware is compatible with most AV and anti-spyware products, and the free version will continue to be useful as a second anti-malware scanner.

Ok this is my first time on this site and i have little understanding of the computer but let me try to explain the problem as well as i can.

Ok most of my games are freezing up during gameplay such as Everquest freezes up for no reason or same for Guild Wars. I think its something wrong with my computer (but no sure the problem) or it might be something wrong with the graphic card. I can telll the difference between lag of a game and the game just freezing up for no apparent reason.

If you need me to say what kind of computer i have or what graphic card i currently have, please say so.

If there is a program that i need to download to help fix this problem, i trust you guys seeing as you know more than i do.

Can you guys please help me out?

How old is your computer? Have you ever reinstalled your OS?

What I usually recommend is if your computer is at least a couple of years old and have yet to do a clean install of your Operating System now is the time, especially when it starts acting up =)

I have a Compaq Presario 7000. It has XP Pro with 256MB RAM. For some reason the computer freezes after 30 minutes or so of being powered on. I thought it was bad RAM.

I remove the old ram and replace with new one and still does it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

A:Computer Freezing

Test for overheating.

Pull the side cover and place a small desk type fan blowing air into the case. If it stops, you have found the cause; overheating.

If that does not work, restart the system in safe mode. While in safe mode run an app that will stress the system like prime95. If it runs prime95 for an hour or two without errors, you have a problem with a driver, software app, etc. If it locks up in safe mode, you have a hardware issue.

My computer keeps freezing a lot lately I once took it to be upgraded to windows ultimate Originally it was a Windows vista Home Premium After the upgrade everything was fine for about a month or two Then while i was playing Combat Arms I got a Blue Screen This has been going on for a while Sometimes when i start it it asks me if i want to Launch Startup Repair I clicked it and it said it was loading files then the computer just restarts Sometimes while the windows logo is coming up it freezes and have to press the power button Then while it is logging me My computer freezing keeps in to my computer it may also freeze If it doesn t i start the internet and start playing Combat Arms Then it usually freezes during the loading menu Sometimes the screen just stays the same and i cant control it with the keyboard or the mouse All I can do is turn it off and hope it doesn t happen again Now more frequently it happens I thought it was the game so I deleted it and stopped playing it But the freezings of my computer have not gone down I have searched for viruses and it says My computer keeps freezing it has not found any I really want to start playing Combat My computer keeps freezing Arms again so if anyone gots any advice please don t hesitate to tell me And my computer before it had the upgrade had RAM sticks and they took out RAM sticks Now someone please help me nbsp

A:My computer keeps freezing

You say you had 6 sticks of Ram before the upgrade what happened to other three. It sound like the guy who did your upgrade took the other 3 sticks may that is why I think your computer crashes.

My computer keeps freezing at frequent occasions throughout the day. Sometimes it happens two or three times, other days as many as ten. I thought that this might have been a virus or perhaps some software that I had installed, but after checking my comp with various virus checking software (Ad-aware, CWShredder, Spybot and online virus checkers), I'm thinking it may be something else. Does anyone have any reason why this might be happening, and if there's any way it can be fixed? Thanks to anyone that helps.

well, have you run any online checks?
http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

also how many programs do you have in startup - have a look at msconfig (every thing but win2k)
start> run > msconfig
startup tab
have a look here

also you may want to look at the performance of the PC when running - let us know the windows version you have.

possibly running low on resources

otherwise as you suspect spyware - so you seem to have done most things - I would post a hijackthis log and let an expert here decode just in case
HIJACK THIS:

Download and copy hijackthis to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.

Note the Spyware tools websites are very often under attack and so I have provided more than 1 location to download from:

http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/downloads.html
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/
http://www.sherrylynn.us/privacypolicy

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”.
Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad.
Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING wait advice from one of the many security experts in this forum.
I currently do not have the skill/competence to advise and poor advice can be far more damaging to your PC with this software.

Please have patience and wait for an expert to provide further detailed advice

My niece has an HP ZD8000 laptop and it starting freezing up on her yesterday ... she brought it to me to look at it and I found her hard drive was almost full ... was able to delete almost 3 gigs of stuff. Computer is still freezing up ... it will work for about 5 minutes then freezes ... mouse will still move but nothing happens ... can't click on anything! She has Norton 360 and it will take hours to do a quick scan if it works at all ... usually freezes up before it does anything!!! I read on here to do a hijack this log and will post that!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jody

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.
Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Hi I am new to this forum freezing? Computer and computers in general I just bought my computer about a year ago and it came with a gig hard drive and windows xp It has worked fine up until about months ago when it seem to start moving slower and freezing up every now and then Sometimes after leaving it on for a day or more it will just start going crazy where the screen starts flashing and the tool bar will be at the top of the screen Well all that has been bad but I have still been able to cope with it just by turning it off and back on whenever it would freeze or go crazy But within the last week the mouse pointer doesnt act right Right Computer freezing? when I start the computer the pointer will follow as i move the mouse but freeze along its path so the pointer on the screen freezez as i keep moving the mouse and after a second or to it jumps to where the mouse would have it had it not have frozen It gradually gets worse until eventually after an hour or two the mouse pointer just freezes completely or disappears so I cant use my computer I have to restart my computer and start all over but sometimes even after I restart my computer the mouse pointer starts of frozen so I may have to restart it three times before I get to where I can move my mouse again I thought it could be a virus or spyware so I finnally got the free versions of adaware and norton antivirus I ran them they found some spyware and viruses and got rid of them but it still continues to behave the same I did get the free version of registrycleaner or whatever and ran that It said I had problems with my registry but would only fix for free So please if anyone has any suggestions such as should I pay to get the rest of the registry peoblems fixed And i do not have a backup to where i can restore my computer I also notice that all this started happening about the same time I moved so was wondering if it coul be sommething i upset by being to rough in the moving process

Hello, I am moving this from the Xp forum to th Am I Infected forum.Lets do an MBAM scan and see what comes back. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

i dont know whats going on, i have ad aware professional, spyware doctor full version, comodo firewall, antivir personal edition and ewido. i scan about once every 5 days, they find a few little things, and get rid of them. suddenly my computer keeps freezing! usually im running msn 7.5, itunes and mozilla or IE, with the icons on the taskbar on aswell. are any of these programs causing conflict? when it freezes, the sound skips like a broken record, and i cant do anything, resulting in turning it off by holding the power button down for 5 seconds. i cant move the mouse, i try ctrl alt delete, but its just non responsive. i recently purchased registry cleaner, it founds 180 problems and fixed them all, so i think the registry is clean. also i used cleanup and got rid of all the junk.

thanks in advance :), helen

Helen, do you remember the date when you ran the Registry cleaner? Could you please try restoring your System to a date earlier than that and check if this happens or not? Your System Restore is accessible through 'Help and Support' in the Start menu.

What should I look for causing this?

A:freezing computer

Freezes can be caused by many things:
Memory
Video
Device Drivers
Bad Motherboard
Bad Devices
System Resources
Software

Have you been able to run a ScanDisk?
Defragged lately?

May have too many programs running in the background.

Hello I have been having a lot of trouble Computer Freezing with my computer freezing intermittently I'm not sure if it's a virus malware problem or just a computer problem so I do apologize if it turns out it is not a virus issue I thought I would post here first It has been happening for several months now I first noticed it when Freezing Computer I upgraded my AVG and my computer seemed to slow down after that I thought it might be the program so I took it out and replaced it with Ad-Aware but it didn't seem to change anything My mom told me as well around that same time she had gotten some facebook virus that destroyed her aol email account We immediately did a virus scan after that and it could not find anything What seems to happen is when I'm watching a video like on youtube the first sec will be fine and then the video will either just freeze completely with no sound for about minute and mouse will not work as well and then resume but keep freezing every few seconds after that Then other times the video will freeze with the mouse but the sound continues and finally will resume with freezing every few seconds after that This freezing is not only videos anymore it's when I'm in the middle of typing emails or typing a word document It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing it just keeps freezing I did THOROUGHLY blow the dust out of my computer to make sure it wasn't just buildup on the fans and were overheating I have run my antivirus program and made sure antivirus programs were not on at once and my windows firewall has been on the whole time I do not play games online or go to any crazy sites I do have quot WOT quot so when I'm searching for sites online this helps me know if a site is safe or not My mom does not play any applications on facebook or click anything quot weird quot on her wall that's obviously not from her friend I always have an anti-virus on and it scans every couple of days I did run GMER but when I did original instructions where you un-click quot IAT EAT Drives Partition other than Systemdrive typically C Show all quot it would scan for a long time then finally show my an error saying quot Windows system config AppEvent Evt quot was lost information and could not continue When this error message came up it froze EVERYTHING and I lost the whole scan twice So I did the nd way with the scan of quot ONLY the Sections and C drive boxes ticked quot which is pasted below I hope I was thorough enough I just wanted to tell you everything I know and have noticed and what my habits and my moms habits are when searching the internet Thank you AGAIN Sincerely Kendall DDS Ver - - - NTFSx Run by Kendall at on Thu Internet Explorer BrowserJavaVersion Running Processes C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS system spoolsv exe C Program Files Google Update GoogleCrashHandler exe C WINDOWS Explorer EXE C WINDOWS ehome ehtray exe C Program Files Intel Intel Matrix Storage Manager iaanotif exe C Program Files Intel Modem Event Monitor IntelMEM exe C Program Files Creative SBAudigy ZS Surround Mixer CTSysVol exe C Program Files Creative SBAudigy ZS DVDAudio CTDVDDET EXE C WINDOWS system CTHELPER EXE C Program Files CyberLink PowerDVD DVDLauncher exe C WINDOWS system dla tfswctrl exe C Program Files Hewlett-Packard HP Share-to-Web hpgs wnd exe C Program Files Dell Support Center bin sprtcmd exe C WINDOWS V Mon exe C Program Files iTunes iTunesHelper exe C Program Files Hewlett-Packard HP Share-to-Web hpgs wnf exe C Program Files Common Files Java Java Update jusched exe C Program Files ComcastUI Universal Installer uinstaller exe C Program Files ComcastUI Universal Installer uinstaller exe C WINDOWS system ctfmon exe C Program Files Common Files Apple Mobile Device Support bin AppleMobileDeviceService exe C Program Files Bonjour mDNSResponder exe C WINDOWS system CTsvcCDA EXE C WINDOWS eHome ehRecvr exe C WINDOWS eHome ehSched exe C Program Files Intel Intel Matrix Storage Manager iaantmon exe C Program Files Java jre bi... Windows XP Pro SP AMD dual GB RAM I ve been having this problem off and on for the last year or so I know that seems like a long time to ignore a problem but it seldom froze and I just accepted that computers do that from time to time However within the last week it s been getting pretty bad I had it freeze three times in a row within min Each time it freezes I have to restart the computer I know of no other way to pull it out There doesn t really seem to be any rhyme or reason to the Freezing computer freezing Some times it will freeze when doing processor intensive activities like rendering out Freezing computer a D project I m a motion graphics artist and some time it ll do it when I m just browsing the web I only have a few guesses I m using wireless internet that is pretty spotty Sometimes when the internet goes out it seems to freeze although the two may be unrelated I have an external Seagate TB HD hooked up via USB Some times it will make this weird clicking noise like it s searching the drive It s brand new so it s not going out or anything like that and the comp will freeze Again they might be unrelated Those are just my two guesses As you can imagine this freezing has caused me to loose loads of work and is extremely annoying I d appreciate any help Thanks Malcolm

A:Freezing computer

First, regarding your external drive...No drive should be making any clicking noise. Usually, it's bad news. Brand new, or almost brand new drives happen.I strongly suggest, you run Seagate diagnostic on that drive: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287#seagateComputer freezing may be caused by number of reasons: overheating, system files issue, drivers problems, an infection, hardware problems, low hard drive space, etc.How is your computer security? What AV program, firewall do you use?Have you scanned your computer recently with any antimalware program, like Malwarebytes?

A:Help Computer Keeps Freezing Up On Me

You could:

1) check the temperature in the BIOS next time it freezes...
2) Disable automatically reboot so you can see the Blue screen and error message

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

3) Check event viewer for errors (red X)
4) Boot in Safe Mode and let the computer seat down for few hours and see if it locks up...

Mostlikely the issue is either an hardware issue or a driver issue...

You could also run check disk, verify that the cable are seating properly inside the case, run a mem check

Does anyone know what causes a computer to freeze and how to prevent it in future?

I don't really see why my one should, I have bought a new computer about 3 months ago, and it is quite a powerful device. Is any computer subject to freezing or might it have been something I did?

A:Computer Freezing?

Hi and welcome.
Can you give us some more information on your computer. It's obviously Xp but like how much Ram does it have etc..
What anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewalls do you have installed?

With Regards,

Hello everybody, I have a problem.

Multiple times per day, my computer freezes for a few seconds, and it seems to be because my graphic cards is having a seizure (sometimes I get the message saying my Nvidia card crashed). It never happen when I'm watching a movie or playing a game, in fact, it only happens when I switch pages on the internet or open up something else.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem? Thank you for your time.

Hey guys, my computer has recently started to freeze quite a bit.
It is mostly when i have a few programs running at once, but I dont see why this is a problem. I have 512 mb of RAM installed... on average when my computer freezes my ram defragmentor in my desktop tray says i have over 300 Mb free.
I have also tried reinstalling my graphics card and drivers, as i had a similar problem before and that's what fixed it, but no dice this time.
Any ideas?

Running athlon 3100+, geforce 4 mx 440 card, 512 mb ram, seagate 40 gb drive

thanks

Hi,

Welcome to TSF.
I'm K27 and I am currently reviewing your log.

Please DO NOT run any scans/tools/fixes on your own as this will conflict with the tools we are going to use.

Please Print or Save to Notepad all instructions and please follow them carefully and if there's something you don't understand or that will not work please let me know and we will go through it together.

Please DO NOT use this system for anything apart from visiting this forum and other sites I direct you too, as this will only make the cleanup process all the more difficult.

Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed. This is to free up my time so as to continue to help others. If you need longer to reply, then that is fine, but please to let me know.
If you need to run the following tool in Safemode, please do.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
Please post the MBAM log back for review.

Thanks

Hi, I've been having freezing issues with my computer lately. It seems to freeze on certain websites I visit and is now almost always freezing when I watch videos from Youtube and similar video sharing websites. Am I infected? Please help

A:My computer keeps freezing! Please help!

Which browser is misbehaving?  Download Security Check from here or here and save it to your Desktop. Double-click SecurityCheck.exe Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.NOTE 1. If one of your security applications (e.g., third-party firewall) requests permission to allow DIG.EXE access the Internet, allow it to do so.NOTE 2 SecurityCheck may produce some false warning(s), so leave the results reading to me. Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and run it on the computer with the issue.Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet ServicesWindows FirewallSystem RestoreSecurity Center/Action CenterWindows UpdateWindows DefenderOther ServicesPress "Scan".It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste the log to your reply. Please download MiniToolBox and run it.Checkmark following boxes:Report IE Proxy SettingsReport FF Proxy SettingsList content of HostsList IP configurationList Winsock EntriesList last 10 Event Viewer logList Installed ProgramsList Devices (do NOT change any settings here)List Users, Partitions and Memory sizeClick Go and post the result. Simply exit the program. When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log-xxxxx.txt and system-log.txt Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop. There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.Do not reboot until instructed. If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode. When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.Post it in your next reply.NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets.

I recommend testing the hard disk and the memory.

Determine the manufacturer of your hard disk, download and set up their testing utility.

A:please help... COmputer keeps freezing..

Go onto Device Manager, which can be found by clicking on start> Settings> Control Panel Then double clicking on the system icon. When this loads, click on the hardware tab and click on device manager.

Now look down this list and see if there are any "!" or "?" marks next to any of the devices. If there is, mention the device, also right click on the device and go to properties, if there are any errors etc. post them here also...

Ok so i have a problem. Few days ago i have put a new graphics card in my computer (ATI Radeon 5570 hd) and two additional GB of ram (now i have 4). The next day i started getting (at random intervals) a BSOD. It was a dxgmms1.sys problem. I reinstalled all of the graphiscs drivers and i have updated DirectX. It fixed the problem, but know my computer keeps freezing (again at random intervals). What should i do?

A:Computer keeps freezing

Check what size power supply you have - your graphics card requires a 350w PSU at least.

A:Freezing Computer!!!

OK, let's see if fixing these two will reveal other entries or maybe even fix the freezing problem.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - (no file)

Restart and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

I have no idea what's wrong, but a week ago, my computer just started to randomly freeze on me. I don't know why since I didn't do anything out of the ordinary either. It's becoming more frequent, like 4-5 times a day. The only reason I can think of as to why this is happening is that awhile ago, my friend sent me a picture, and I accepted it, not knowing that it was a MSN virus. However, someone from another forum helped me get rid of it, and it seem to be working fine until now.And also, when I try opening my task manager with the CTRL+ALT+DELETE, the task manager pops up, but just a part of it. It looks like this:Please help, I would really appreciate it

Im currently running windows xp professional with SP2. My processor is an AMD athlon xp 1900+ 1.60GHz with 512 RAM. I will turn my computer on in the morning, look up a few things then ill have class. I will return in like 2 hours or sooner and it has froze. Everything completely quit working, including the time on the task bar. After I restart the computer, it will work fine because I will be doing something on it right up until I turn it off. But it seems once I leave it be, it will just freeze up. I have nothing running in the background but my AIM, when it freezes. I have looked up other forums and read those. but I figured I will post my problem and get first hand help. I was just wondering what the problem could be.

Thanks

A:My computer keeps freezing!!!

well for one thing it could be your your screensaver or it could be your power management. If it is your screensaver just change it. If its not, what you do is go to the start menu, click on settings and then control panel.Go to performance and maintenance and then scroll down and click power options.Under turn off monitor, turn off hard disks, system stand by and system hibernates, select never for all of them. That might do the trick.

My Pc has reasonable specs and has worked perfectly fine until the last 2 weeks. After a while it will suddenly freeze disabling me from using my keyboard and mouse allowing me having to press the restart button on the hard drive to restart the pc.

Please could people tell me why this could be?

It could be because of heat but my cpu could handle me having several applications open, now i feel i'm risking the pc to a further crashing my having more than 1 application open.

Please help! thanks in advance

A:Computer Keeps freezing! please help

when you power the PC, if you let it sit on the destop does still freeze? or does it freeze only when you try to run an application?

Try going to MSconfig and running the System on Selective start up.
Go to RUN, Type: " MSconfig " On the General tab click Selective Start up and uncheck all options. Restart and browse around, open a few Applications and see if you're still having the same problem.

Also, how old is your Hard Drive? Maybe is time for a new one?

Hi I'm new here and don't know too much about computers so please Computer freezing keeps be patient I've been having problems for a while now For the last few months my computer has been freezing sometimes after an hour sometimes it'd last a few hours I assumed it was just overheating or something so I'd turn it off and leave it for a while Then a few weeks ago I'd turn it on and it wouldn't even get as far as windows So I did a system recovery and then it'd get to windows but everything would take a Computer keeps freezing few minutes to load up and I couldn't access any of my files or anything So my friend came over backed up all my stuff and reinstalled everything Hurrah it worked again Almost like new Except I noticed after a couple of days that it was still freezing sometimes The other day I downloaded some windows updates and the freezing has become far more frequent I'm sometimes lucky if it lasts half an hour A couple of times it's taken just a few minutes before freezing Anyone have any ideas Is there anything I can do Thanks in advance

Hi hannnah and welcome to TSF !

Could be some hardware problems if a reinstall didn't solve it.

Go to the event viewer : start => run and type eventvwr.msc /s. Go to the different sections and report any error you see there.

Go to the device manager : right-click on my computer => properties => hardware => device manager. In the view menu, enable "show hidden devices" and check there's no yellow warning sign in there.

Now is this a laptop or a desktop ? Provide us with as much information you can (brand, model, ...). Check the "posting system specs" link in my sig to know what we need.

Hi er111a,

Please run 'Hardware Diagnostics' to confirm 'Hardware functionality': http://dell.to/OUGnqT
- Capture and share the details of 'error(s)' if any

If no 'hardware issues' are detected, please run 'SFC Scannow' and share the CBS.log file for further investigation: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

Just upfront I want you to know that my computer knowledge is on the low end of the totem pole. I have a Dell computer. I had to replace my CPU recently. I got a Dell XPS. My operating system is Windows XP. My computer keeps freezing up many times a day. I have been in Word, in Peachtree, Go to my pc, or just online, it doesn't seem to matter. The mouse will not move and it will not allow me to do a Control-Alt-Delete. I have gotten a blue screen several times since I got this computer a month or so ago, but not recently. I really need help and don't know where to start. I had a computer guy come to the house twice, and he hasn't fixed problem. Thanks for anyone's ideas......

I'm working on this PC that keeps freezing.

I opened the case and blew out massive amount of dust! Also, after I fired it back up, I noticed that none of the PSU fans were runnning. At this point, windows will barely boot, and will freeze on the black screen. Can the PSU overheat this quickly and be my problem? What tells the PSU to turn on it's fans?

TIA,

Matt

A:Computer freezing

The PSU's fans should spin up immediately when the computer is turned on, if not, then either:

- the fans all died (would be a huge coincidence)
- your PSU is using some kind of wierd fan-speed management that apparently goes all the way down to 0 (highly unlikely)
- PSU died (replace it with another and see if it works)

Hi, my computer i built myself is freezing all the time.

The idle temps right now in the summer are:
Motherboard: 74 C
CPU: 70C
Aux: 40C
GPU: 43C
Hard drive: 40 C

Are these too high?

I have a Coolermaster 690 case with 1 120 mm fan on the bottom, one 120 mm fan on the back and 2 fans on top.

70°C is your CPU idle temp? That's very high for idle. What's your load temps like?

Try uninstalling and cleaning away your current antivirus solution. Then install MSE as a replacement.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...nstallers.html

If there are actual bsod crashes, please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and copy the files there to any other folder. Then rar or zip them and attach the compressed file to a post.

A:Computer Keeps freezing

It sounds like a hardware issue but you can try this and see if it helps. Start > run . type cmd. On the command line prompt type chkdsk /r (Note: there is a space between the letter k and the forward slash). Press enter. You will receive a message that the volume is in use and chkdsk cannot be performed and asked to type y or n to schedule a scan upon re-boot. Type y of course then press enter. Type exit then press enter. Restart your computer and allow the scan to run. After completion run a quality defragmenting program such as Diskeeper, Defragler or Ultimate Defrag. You can google any of these to find a download site.

Good luck!!
