Preferred Solution: Programs closing and freezing frequently

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Bump. I know it might not seem really important, but it's been plaguing my computer for quite awhile and is only getting worse.

Hello I've had this problem for a week now keyboard) (mic, mouse, frequently, inputs Computer freezes all closing Sometimes when I run my computer for a longer duration my mouse and Computer freezes frequently, closing all inputs (mic, mouse, keyboard) keyboard freeze with the screen I can still hear sounds etc Then all of the sudden the computer Computer freezes frequently, closing all inputs (mic, mouse, keyboard) unfreezes and I can continue for a few seconds and experience another freeze This might continue for a while but after some time the computer freezes again and doesnt unfreeze I tried unplugging my mouse and then putting it back to the usb port in my motherboard but this time the mouse doesnt power back on the light on the bottom doesnt come on I havent gotten any error messages from Computer freezes frequently, closing all inputs (mic, mouse, keyboard) this this might be because I power my computer off before anything pops up Also one wierd thing that happend while this freezing occured was the fact that my cursor didnt change while moving it over hypertext or selecting text Also the text selector cursor was bugged and it changed colours while moving it accross different colors One thing I might suspect is the fact that my CMOS battery is failing I had a some kind of a corruption error with it earlier and fixed it by reseating the battery The Motherboard I'm using is an Asus P Z -V LX This is really wierd since sometimes I might be on skype and this happens and I still hear my friend Just cant talk to him thought I hope this problem can be resolved because it is really annoying and kinda stressfull since I wouldnt want my computer to fail -Tuukka

A:Computer freezes frequently, closing all inputs (mic, mouse, keyboard)

It sounds like a possible bad driver, or something became corrupt with either a video or sound driver. I would check and make sure that you have the most up-to-date drivers installed.

Can you try running MBAM in Safe Mode?

You can get to safe mode via hitting F8 just after the BIOS Post screen/Dell Splash Logo.

Ok..here is the sit. Windows did an update and installed IE6.0 (was 5.5). Running ME, and since then, I have been unable to access some of my desktop items, as you click the icon and nothing happens...same thing with Start. This freezing occurs no matter what I am doing, surfing, trying to access Desktop, etc...I can get Explorer to unfreeze doing Ctrl+Alt+Del, but it will always freeze again...Any suggestions???

hello all..i posted a thread yesterday concerning my pc freezing up and graphic distortion on 3d games.
well its froze 7 times today with in the space of 20 minutes (unabling me to control/alt/delete etc.....) and im just wondering if it could be a faulty motherboard or even harddrive which may be causing this instead of my graphics card (9800 non pro) which im about to send back to the store...
if any one has an idea about this it would be a great help..thanx

A:explorer.exe freezing frequently.

Have you updated the drivers?

When you say explorer freezes, does that mean you can bring up task manager via ctrl+alt+del?

If so, bring up Task manager, goto processes, right click explorer and hit the Create Dump File option. Zip up the dump it creates and send it over.

Hi,After performing these scans, enter the results in your next post and also update me on the status of the PC.Note: You may have to perform some or all of the following in Safe Mode With Networking, depending on if you have internet access while in the normal Windows environment.================================================================================Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.================================================================================Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware FreeDouble-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. If it will not start, go to Start > All Prgrams > SUPERAntiSpyware and click on Alternate Start. If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):Close browsers before scanning.Scan for tracking cookies.Terminate memory threats before quarantining.Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.Do not run a scan just yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally. To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.Click Close to exit the program. If you have a problem downloading, installing or getting SAS to run, try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then double-click on it to launch and scan. The file is randomly named to help keep malware from blocking the scanner.===========================================================... Read more

My name is Pizza and Pepsi. I will try to give you a hand and help you solve the problem.Lets run Security Check.Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document. Please download MiniToolBox and run it.Checkmark following boxes: List last 10 Event Viewer log List Installed Programs List Users, Partitions and Memory sizeClick Go and post the result. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!! Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants. Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). Click the Start Scan button. Do not use the computer during the scan If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit. If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options. Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process. Note: If Cure is not an option, Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed. A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:). Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET Online Scanner:Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.Vista/Windows 7 users: You will need to to right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu. Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps) Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop. Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop. Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use." Click the Start button. Accept any security warnings from your browser. Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats" Click Advanced settings and select the following: Scan potentially unwanted applications Scan for potentially unsafe applications Enable Anti-Stealth technology ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time. When the scan completes, click List Threats Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply. On ESET: Click the Back button, then the Finish button.Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!Post the logs and tell me how the computer is running now.

Hi I have several problems but I'm going to assume you only want to take them on one at a time So that's what we'll do I'm using Windows Pro SP Gb Ram wait frequently Windows freezing 7 I have tool for this OS Version Microsoft Windows Professional Service Pack bit Processor Intel reg Core Duo CPU E GHz Intel Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card Intel reg Q Q Express Chipset Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB E Total - MB Free Windows 7 frequently freezing - MB F Total - MB Free - MB Motherboard Hewlett-Packard h MXL NY Antivirus Panda Free Antivirus Updated and Enabled More and more lately I get hung up in both Firefox and Opera It's usually when I have a few tabs open and have been running it for a while That's to be expected I should close and reopen every minutes at the very least I suppose Annoying but not to the point of driving me insane as this freeze does I've been on XP for most of my computer-using life and on it Task Manager ruled the land So I kept it up As soon as I star my computer I start it up with it It's good to have if you run across a site trying to install a virus or whatever should you catch something fishy before your anti-virus does But with Win Pro when the computer freezes up so does task manager I have to control-alt-delete to either get task manager up or sometimes just to start responding again without bringing up TM To let everyone know right now I'm on a refurbished computer that's lasted about a year at this point Quite frankly my Windows phobia made me actually go out and purposely look for a refurbished computer with Win since I heard it was the best of all the newer OSs since XP Now if I need to reinstall I have no Win Pro disc to do that with However I do have trusty XP Home discs that I would be more than happy to substitue for it although I have heard that Win machines create a partition or something that let's you reinstall after a format I presume anyway I won't lie i'm not exactly sure what that means So there's a wall of text that I hope isn't too much Forgive me if it is I'm working on my flaw It would have been bigger a few months ago Thanks

A:New computer frequently freezing up

Hello and Welocme to TSF!! All apologies for the delay.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...howtutorial=61 ). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you check the last one:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://mysearch.myway.com/jsp/dellsidebar.jsp?p=DE
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\Program Files\MyWaySA

? Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan

Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner Click Check Now and a "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now * The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place *
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
Click on See report then click Save report
*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Paste the Panda Scan report here together with a new HiJack This log.

My laptop is freezing up on me. When this happens the keys and mouse do not work. If I am listening to music when this happens, the sounds are slowed down and drawn out. I do not have a virus and it is not an overheating issue. Could someone please help me. Thanks

A:Hi my laptop is freezing frequently.

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages. If both the above tests pass, try the following. From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter. sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / ) Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter. Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Part of this process will require a restart to check the drive.?Regards, DP-K

A:Computer frequently freezing

Well... um... Things got worse since I last posted... Numbers of freezes were increasing in number, usually occurring while windows is booting or not long after I logged in and things were loading. Thus I searched the internet and found a way to replace system files through the recovery console, and resolved to try that.
I booted up my XP cd, and selected recovery console. I had entered it once before today seeing if had a straightforward method of recovery, it loaded up quick, but I didn't understand it enough, so I exited it. But this time when I entered the recovery console it was extremely slow, sat there for a few minutes while it gave me the message "please wait..." I got up and left for about 20-30 minutes and came back expecting it to be long done, it was on the step of "examining hardware configuration." I was disgusted with it, and thought perhaps the dang CD has frozen. I tried to exit out of it, but to no avail, so I just powered the computer off. Probably the biggest mistake I've ever made, as now when I turn on my PC on... I usually get NOTHING on screen. Totally blank, no input sent to my monitor.
I tried resetting my bios, thinking that maybe somehow a setting was changed in there. No luck. I was stumped, I thought perhaps my BIOS battery was dead, but I've done a bit of research and from what I can see, that saves settings, and I've found no indication that I would lose all computer capabilities. What have I done to my PC?

"your hard disk has 14432 (it was 14368 30 mins. ago) reallocated sectors" - means the drive is dead if correct. Though, no idea why SMART shows only 19.

Hey TSF My laptop an alienware m recently Laptop freezing frequently x R is about a year and a half old and it Laptop recently freezing frequently has performed well without many issues since I first purchased it Laptop recently freezing frequently However recently the laptop will suddenly freeze up not responding to any input or updating the screen which just sits as though completely frozen or going to sleep when the power button is pressed screen is closed This appears to happen completely at random and the only thing I can do when it does happen is force shutdown the machine by holding the power button and then start it back up I have coretemp running at all times and heat is definitely not causing this issue as it has happened multiple times while the machine was at idle temps The windows event log does not provide any hints as to the nature of these lockups telling me only that quot The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first This error could be caused if the system stopped responding crashed or lost power unexpectedly quot This first began consistently happening on October th last Friday you can see the pattern of crashes in the screenshot below I am running Windows Home Premium -bit with gbs of ram None of the parts were recently replaced I don't recall installing any programs recently or downloading any files that should be causing something like this to happen the last time I installed a program was on and doesn't appear to correspond to these crashes Furthermore when I was typing up this post the computer froze up and needed to be restarted again marking the rd occurrence today I took a picture with my camera before restarting the machine and attached it as well I started in safemode with networking this time to see if the computer would still freeze up however I will have to return to normal mode shortly as I cannot run OneNote while in safemode and not being able to access my notes is not an option right now Anyway I have never had this issue with a machine before and because it is not BSODing I don't even know where to start looking for the solution Any help would be much appreciated

A:Laptop recently freezing frequently

My computer has been crashing a lot more frequently over the last couple of days. It has also crashed while running in safemode, and even while running fedora on a separate partition on the same hard drive as windows. I'm guessing this means it is a hardware error, as if it was software related I don't think the problem would be both in windows and in fedora. I have backed up all of my data, and I now need to figure out what part is causing my computer to freeze and require a restart seemingly at random.

Hi, Been reading through different threads on Vista issues. I saw instructions for the BSOD info necessary to figure what the problem is/lives on the computer. This is new territory for me - going beyond what AVG will fix. Doing anything beyond this feels like looking under the hood of the car...some things look familiar but I would never attempt to mess with them.

When the 'spinning blue circle' gets stuck for a couple of minutes, then I get a dark blue screen, hit Cntrl/Alt/Del about three times to no avail, I finally hold down the Off button (5 seconds to take effect). I've had to do this 15 - 20 times this week. Don't know what started it this issue of getting stuck. I don't play games or watch movies on the computer. I do some facebook, Picasa, iTunes, some You tube, etc.

Where to start? Have run Glary Utilities, AVG.

Thank you.

A:Windows Vista Freezing Frequently

Hi

Can you provide more information about your hardware
make and model of your computer
if custom build then list all the parts

Did you change anything before this issue started? like uninstalled a program or driver or windows update ?

Is there any errors you get when you get dark blue screen?

When was the last time you ran updates for windows?
When was the last time you updated your motherboard drivers?

Is this a desktop or laptop? When was the last time you cleaned it up of all the dust that gets built in it?

I just bought freezing new with Computer frequently components a bunch of new components for my Computer frequently freezing with new components computer CPU RAM Motherboard put them together and did a fresh re-installation of Windows XP However I ve come across some problems almost immediately the computer will either freeze or randomly restart itself Computer frequently freezing with new components every minutes or so I monitored the CPU temp It s running at around - C idle and - C under heavy load Seems like that s a little bit too cold I was considering slowing the fan speeds to see if that stopped the crashes but I decided not to go and mess around with that yet I haven t changed anything in the BIOS I m not using any over-clocking and I already installed all the drivers that came with the motherboard One of the times that it randomly restarted itself it had came up with an error saying quot A Hypertransport Sync Flood Error occured on the last boot quot That only happened once though Browsing through the internet I discovered that the likely cause of that error is insufficient voltage going to the RAM My RAM only requires V to run I left it as Auto in the BIOS Here are the hardware components I ve just installed Motherboard - quot MSI GM-E AM AMD G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard quot RAM - quot CORSAIR XMS DHX GB x GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR PC Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TW X G C DHX quot CPU - quot AMD Athlon II X Rana GHz x KB L Cache Socket AM W Triple-Core Desktop Processor quot So any thoughts on what might be the cause of the frequent freezing restarting nbsp

Does the Auto set it at 1.5v? Go ahead and manually set your RAM to 1.5v because too often Auto doesn't necessarily set the voltage at the designed voltage specs for the memory.

Also, what is the make and wattage of your PSU?

A:Dell XPS Freezing Frequently, No BSOD's

It appears to be some driver issue. Enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. It may help us point out the failing one.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

A:Computer keeps freezing for a few seconds quite frequently!

Welcome aboard 1. Running "Advanced System Care 4" - Deep CareDon't.Registry cleaners/optimizers are not recommended for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work.
Not all registry cleaners create a backup of the registry before making changes. If the changes prevent the system from booting up, then there is no backup available to restore it in order to regain functionality. A backup of the registry is essential BEFORE making any changes to the registry.
Improperly removing registry entries can hamper malware disinfection and make the removal process more difficult if your computer becomes infected. For example, removing malware related registry entries before the infection is properly identified can contribute to system instability and even make the malware undetectable to removal tools.
The usefulness of cleaning the registry is highly overrated and can be dangerous. In most cases, using a cleaner to remove obsolete, invalid, and erroneous entries does not affect system performance but it can result in "unpredictable results".Unless you have a particular problem that requires a registry edit to correct it, I would suggest you leave the registry alone. Using registry cleaning tools unnecessarily or incorrectly could lead to disastrous effects on your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. For routine use, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.Ed Bott's Webog: Why I don't use registry cleanersDo I need a Registry Cleaner?=====================================================================Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop. * Double-click SecurityCheck.exe * Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. * A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.=============================================================================Please download MiniToolBox and run it.Checkmark following boxes:Report IE Proxy SettingsReport FF Proxy SettingsList content of HostsList IP configurationList last 10 Event Viewer logList Users, Partitions and Memory sizeClick Go and post the result.=============================================================================Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' An... Now that we are "friends" please call me Gary.If you would allow me to call you by your first name I would prefer to do that. ===================================================Ground Rules:First, I would like to inform you that most of us here at Bleeping Computer offer our expert assistance out of the goodness of our hearts. Please try to match our commitment to you with your patience toward us. If this was easy we would never have met. Please do not run any tools or take any steps other than those I will provide for you while we work on your computer together. I would be happy to focus on the many others who are waiting in line for assistance. Please perform all steps in the order they are listed in each set of instructions. Some steps may be a bit complicated. If things are not clear, be sure to stop and let me know. We need to work on this together with confidence. Please copy and paste all logs into your post unless directed otherwise. Please do not re-run any programs I suggest. If you encounter problems simply stop and tell me.When you post your reply, use the button instead. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see the button. Click on this then choose Immediate E-Mail notification and then Proceed and you will be sent an email once I have posted a response. If you do not reply to your topic after 5 days we assume it has been abandoned and I will close it.When your computer is clean I will alert you of such. I will also provide for you detailed information about how you can combat future infections.I would like to remind you to make no further changes to your computer unless I direct you to do so.Now let's get started ===================================================Now that I am assisting you, you can expect that I will be very responsive to your situation. If you are able, I would request you check this thread at least once per day so that we can try to resolve your issues effectively and efficiently. A:New Computer Randomly Freezing, Happening More and More Frequently

Freezing can be caused by many situations, as can slowness.

Check your system temperatures lately?

Run a hard drive diagnostic?

How about some data on this system (PSU, motherboard, RAM)?

What changes occurred 3 weeks ago that may be related?

A:Tecra Z40-A - frequently freezing / hanging running Win 7

Hi

Do you run some specific application while the notebook freezing?

Such symptoms could be related to some software conflicts between the installed applications or some not good working drivers.

Did you already try to recover the notebook back to factory settings?
If not, I think that you should try this procedure and should run some checks after the unit has been recovered…

Please also keep an eye on MS updates which would install automatically… sometimes it could happen that MS updates would muddle up the system and finally the windows would start freezing

I restored a backup but nothing seems to be helping This happens in games too frequent pausing and hanging but mostly I notice it in youtube The sound will either skip even if it's buffered or it will glitch and do this horrible buzzing noise It seems to be related with my mouse occasionally hanging in one place as I'm trying to move it I've tried using Resource Monitor but I'm not really sure how to see what's going wrong I've tried googling this issue but none of the quick solutions on other forums seem to do the trick Any help would be appreciated Specs Motherboard Asrock A M Processor AMD A - APU GHz Memory GB RAM Graphics Card GeForce GTX I don't have a separate soundcard

A:Sound skipping or buzzing, mouse frequently freezing.

Hi GuyFaux,

Are you using the onboard audio integrated onto the motherboard? If so, try re-installing the sound card drivers. If you can, try to get your hands on an add-on sound card and install it on your computer and see if the problem persist while using the spare, add-on sound card. Hope everything works out well for you.

A:Frequently run programs on list

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried unchecking both item under the Privacy section in Start Menu properties, and then restart the computer and check them again? This should reset it.

You can take a look at step 3 in the How to Turn the Recent Items List On or OFF section in this tutorial as a reference.

Under Windows XP, Tweak UI has a section that the user can put a checkmark next to the applications that will be allowed "to appear in the Most Frequently Used Programs section of the Start menu".

Is there a program or registry tweak that will accomplish this under Windows 7?

A:Frequently Used Programs in Start Menu

What Windows 7 does is when you right mouse click on the item you have quite a few choices but 2 are pin to Taskbar and pin to Start Menu. Once an item is pinned to the Start Menu it will run, to turn off the automatic start of the item but leave it in the Start Menu go to Start>type msconfig> right mouse click on msconfig when it comes up in the upper screen> run as Administrator> deselect the item(s) you no longer wish to start automatically. DriveMax - Version 5.9
DriveMax Agent

This has happened on a lot of occasions in the past month, and I'm at a quandry. I cannot duplicate the action(s) that generate such a response. What can I do?

I use avast!, ad-aware, SpyBot, ThreatFire, and immuneProtect, noting that I have avast! in immuneProtect.

Fortunately, I have good backups of data and system, and am prepared to dump the system and begin vanilla if needsbe.

A:Frequently many programs and windows open on their own

You might try uninstalling Thunderbird and then reinstalling (after backing up your personal data and settings for that program). See what happens.

Next I'd get rid of Avast and use Microsoft Security Essentials ( Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials ) and Malwarebytes free edition. You might try using rKill before running scans ( RKill - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Downloads ).

Please also do this:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

I'm running windows 7
- x64 version
- Korean OEM version upgraded to Ultimate

It's a Dell XPS 15
- The laptop is roughly 8 or 9 months old

The problem seems to be that when I close the lid it will freeze while trying to hibernate. The system lights will all stay lit up, and the fan usually keeps spinning. Usually it completely shuts down by itself after a short time, and upon opening the lid it has to restart.

It doesn't always create a dump file, and the only thing I can guess is that I'm jostling the hard drive while setting it down on my desk after closing the lid, but the shutdown isn't consistent, and I'm not tossing it down.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

A:Freezing upon closing lid

Hi isakilla and welcome to SF!
I looked at your 26 dumps and they're all basically identical errors
Code:
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f)
. About 50% blames
Code:
SynTP.sys Thu Jul 15 20:01:32 2010 (4C3FA15C)
, which is your touch pad driver and the rest blames
Code:
NETw5s64.sys Mon May 31 15:05:02 2010 (4C04085E)
which is your Intel WiFi driver.

Basically the system complains about "having a rug pulled from under your feet" I'm not a laptop expert per se but I wonder how recent you are on your Windows updates?
For now I would recommend the following:

Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Remove Daemon Tools following this tut: DuplexSecure - FAQ
You can always replace it with one of the following programs which don't rely on a rootkit like driver

Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview
SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive
Gizmo Central -- Enliven your PC

Finally run this to make sure the system files are ok:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (until it comes up clean that sometimes takes ~ 3 or 4 times)

If that all doesn't help you should enable Driver verifyer to flush out the real culprit:
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
and post the new jcgriff2 report

So I recently purchased a new ASUS laptop, and everything has been fine except for windows 7. In particular, 32 bit programs will inexplicably crash at random times, and when they do, they often all crash at the same time. For example, Steam, windows media player, uTorrent, and Firefox all crashed at the exact same time a few days ago, and several other simultaneous crashes have happened since. IE8, which has to run in 32bit mode for college related applications, crashes frequently as well, and has nearly compromised my work on several occasions.

I've tried recreating it, but I can't. The only thing they have in common is that they are all 32 bit programs, even things widows photo gallery(which is 32bit) crash randomly. I don't know what to do, and it's driving me nuts.

A:32bit programs randomly, and frequently crashing on x64

Dan,

Check your java - unless you specifically use a 64bit browser, you need the 32bit java.

Also there's been a rash of Flash updates recently - they "sandbox" their forever cookies - make sure it's up to date too. And while you're at it check your FF - the two orgs (Mozilla & Adbobe) worked together over the past few weeks to resolve the issue.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm no crash dump reader, maybe someone else can assist you if you are able to provide details.

Did you use a program like Ccleaner to clear temp files, recent history, etc..?

If so, you can't get it back. You can only use those programs again until they fill the list back up.

I have been trying everything I can think of and looking around for my thoughts as to what is causing this, I even took my pc to my local computer store how ever they were useless.

The Problem: When opening or even searching for things in any programs, my pc will freeze for anywhere between 3 - 20 seconds and say program not responding.

Things I have tried: I have used Memtest86+ to see if I had any errors. I had windows 7 64bit previously but I decided to do a full reinstall of windows 8 Pro 64bit to see if it fixed it. I have changed Hard drives. Reverted back to an old Bios. All Driver updates. Really need help as the computer is only 3 months old.

Hi,

How long since you took a can of air and blew the dust bunnies out of all fans, heatsink, power supply, etc.? That might be a good first step to see if that helps.

Then, download the SensorView program under my signature and post the temperatures, the fan speeds, and the voltages. Try the temps for both at-rest, and under-stress like playing a game.

Post back with questions/concerns.

The problems started last night I have started my weekly scan with Microsoft Security Essentials when I have noticed some things - MSE stalled on a specific file which posed no problem in the past and the timer refused to increase even after or so minutes - MSE has locked up my computer or slowed it down to the point where I have to do a hard restart This never happened before - Other programs have taken a major performance hit and Essentials Microsoft programs frequently. stalled other Security like Google Chrome for example Even Windows 's explorer has locked up time to time - System restore is not working since it stalled on the initializing phase for at least minutes without significant progress prompting a hard restart - It took a lot longer for the system to shutdown normally So yeah I have issues on the computer that I have not have before and I'm not sure why Is there a solution that does not involve a clean re-install I do Microsoft Security Essentials and other programs stalled frequently. not have the DVDs since the laptop has Windows built in and they did not give me a CD

A:Microsoft Security Essentials and other programs stalled frequently.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

The first thing you should do is create a set of recovery discs so that you can recover your system to its factory state should the need arise e.g. if you sell your computer.

If you want a pristine system I would carry out a clean install, as described in this tutorial.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

In terms of improving your computer's performance, you might want to check this tutorial.

Optimize Windows 7

A full virus scan won't do any harm either.

But before you do anything, please create those recovery discs as a matter of urgency, your computer documentation or manufacturer's support site will have details on how it's done.

Hi,

I have searched and read all the postings on this problem and still cannot find an answer that works.

I have no "recently/frequently run programs" list displayed on my start menu like I used to. I check all the Start Menu Customizations and I switched back and forth between Classic and regular XP start menu styles and still not one single frequently run program icon/shortcut appears on the Start Menu.

Now what should I try?

Thanks,
Dave Wright

Now the problem:

Everytime I open a game the game freezes for about 10-30 seconds, and then begins to load.. This also happens when closing takes about ten to thirty seconds, and then finally closes...
This happens with every single game I had.. This didn't happen in the beginning but started about three to four months ago.. I searched for other threads in different forums, but I couldn't find anything similar to my problem...

Please, don't hesitate to reply

Yours Truly,
Andrew

A:Freezing when opening and closing games

Hello Andrew.

Are these high performance games or smaller ones? You don't have a ton of RAM, and your CPU is not extremely powerful. Does this happen with movies? Anything else?

You could also try a defrag and registry defrag.

Windows XP's most frequently used programs list is still in tweaki with the box uchecked but the file name is still there. How do I get rid of all referances to the deleted file in Tweaki.

I do not wan't Tweaki to show deleted progams in the Windows XP's most frequently used programs list.

The Start menu no longer shows the file or path, but tweaki still has a link to the deleted file. I want to remove all traces of that link.

A:how to bookmark frequently used programs / change the start menu aroun

Hello Dan and welcome to Seven Forums.

1. It's my understanding that it's not possible to bookmark personal files and folders. You could possibly create a shortcut, however.

Create a desktop shortcut for an Office program or file - Excel - Office.com

Or, you may find this free utility "Favorite Bookmarks" another alternative.

Free Products for Microsoft Excel and Windows

2. There's another free utility called Classic Start Menu that may be to your liking. It changes the Windows 7 start menu to the XP start menu.

CSMenu Official Site

3. I'm not sure about your third question.

I have been having problems with programs closing unexpectedly on their own without any error message. They will run normally for a few minutes and then just close down. I also have trouble when I run my TrendMicro antivirus, it will run for a few minutes and then I get

Application popup: UfNavi.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x........" referenced memory at "0x........". The memory could not be "read"

where 0x........ is a random address that's different each time.

I can't run any scans because they don't have enough time to finish before the program closes itself down. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am using Windows XP SP2

I end them with task manager and they dissappear from everywhere but Task manager, where they stay no matter how many times i click end process. I tried through command prompt, it said it terminated the process, but it just stays in the task manager process list. I also tried through EndItAll, which told me it didn't have permission to kill the program.

Im currently using XP SP2...

hl.exe is a half life executable. Go into your options in the game and see if there is an option to enable/disable auto updates etc.. make sure all options for things relating to HL running at startup are disabled... it could just be memory leak, are you current with all patches/updates for your game?

Hello, I don't know if anyone can help me but any time that i go onto my laptop it closes down every program after 5 seconds with the message 'This program has encoutered and error and has to close do you want to send an error message' after this the program closes down. I don't know what to do. also whenever i turn my computer off it suddenly goes after logging off and shows that it's shutting down, it shows me a blue screen error and then restarts. I have tried a system restore and i don't know what to do. The only program that i can get running for a long time is realplayer when it automatically starts playing a dvd. The laptop is a Acer Aspire 5610 media center edition. i have already tried malwarebytes to no effect.

Is the only error message you receive...what you quoted in your first post?

Do you have a Microsoft XP install CD? Do you have recovery/restore CDs provided by Acer?

I bought a new computer a couple of days ago and I am experiencing a very interesting problem. Anytime I return to the computer after taking a break from work my monitor shows "No Sync", so I move the mouse and my desktop shows only the desktop versus the programs that I had opened before I went to take my break. As long as I am working on the computer I experience no problems. The problem only seems to arise when I take a break and come back to the "No Sync" on my screen. Could one of the computer's power saving modes be doing this?

Hello,
I have a problem which started recently. The problem is that everything closes unexpectedly.
I am using the classic desktop environment to use this system and all the 'apps' I use a classing Windows programs.
Randomly all of the programs that are running on the machine close down without warning (And I mean ALL of them, even explorer.exe). I know that this has not been caused by a recent installation of a program as I have not installed anything recently. I also checked the computer with an Anti-Virus software as that could have been a cause but there wasn't anything.

Im not sure if anyone has experienced this issue as I did not find anything through Google

Does anyone know how can I solve this?

Thanks,
Oskar

A:All Programs Closing

All programs close but windows does not shut down? Just stays at desktop?

Do a malware/spyware check.

Spybot search and destroy

If spybot does not clear the problem then download and run COMBOFIX

Lets start from there..

I have Limewire Pro insalled on my PC, I have had it for a very long time.

I have noticed that today, every time I go to open it (even after uninstalling and redowninging and reinstalling) it will open for a split second in the Task Manager view and then close itself.

The same is going on with internet explorer ( i am using FF now ). I open Internet Explorer and try to use it, and it just closes after attempting to open a site.

Also, I have scanned my PC with Norton 360 (newest norton suite) and it didn't find anything.

THe last thing, I recently had my RAM replaced in my Laptop because a stick went bad. IT was causing the DELL loading screen to freeze. It's happening again every once in a while when I turn on my PC, why?

=( Help me please!

The other day I was burning a CD on RealOne Player and all of a sudden, the window closed out. First, I thought there was just some kind of weird, minor mishap. But later, I tried opening AOL instant messenger and it stayed open for 3 seconds and closed out. This also happened with RealOne, and my attempts to Install a newer version (2004) of Nortons Antivirus only lasted until the "Would you like to activate and register now?" screen, which was 3 seconds into installation. Something keeps closing my programs. I also cannot stay long in the Add/Remove Files window. I just installed Bullgard and it detected:

C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00008457.EXE=>(FSG 1.33)

Status: Infected Backdoor.Agobot.3.Gen

I'm not an expert so please go easy on me My main problem is programs suddenly close When using a browser Firefox or Chrome the program will close Approx every - minutes However there are times it will stay open for significantly longer I've tried using Firefox with Addons disabled and still forced closing I have experienced this as Programs Closing well with another program I use for my ip cameras Blue Iris However it only happens Programs Closing during playback never when the program is open and either recording or ready to record Don't know if this relates but I'm having a problem with my video card having an error every few minutes quot Display driver stopped responding and has recovered quot I've updated the driver from AMD's website but still erroring Then went to AMD and ran their program for completely removing the driver and reinstalled the driver Fyi after this driver they aren't going to support this gpu any longer AMD HD Radeon A bit of background in approx late July I received the invite to update to W ran the test to verify everything was okay Upgraded Ran W for a few days without errors then did a fresh install I shutdown every morning Dell XPS from PS I had to type this question in Notepad because the browser kept closing

Hi,

Never heard of something like this, but the Graphics Card situation sounds familiar. I doubt your GPU is causing your programs to close though. Here's what I would do if I were in your shoes:

Uninstall and reinstall your GPU. Grab the latest drivers and make sure they are properly installed.Run an antivirus check. I personally recommend Malwarebytes Free.

Hope this helps.

reasons?:

i recently installed a new fan into my computer with LED lights, could it be because of this?

i also recently installed windows blinds.

A:Problem with Browser freezing closing restarting possible virus?

It's been a couple days and no reply. Anyone out there have any idea on how to fix this?

I downloaded ad aware and was advised when doing it to close any programs
running, before installing it.

I knew how to do this on my old Win 95 but not sure how to on XP.

( just another dumb question, that the easiest to answer)

Thanks for any help.

A:closing programs in windows XP

You're probably ok installing it without ending anything but here's how to do it. Press Alt/Ctrl/Del and Task Manager should appear. Click on the "Applications" tab and you can end them from there ...

Hi Guys, I am using another computer to explain the issues with mine..
I am not sure I am in the correct area but if not please direct me.
When I open anything on my computer it freezes solid and I can't close it at all.
The only way to close the program is ctl, alt. delete...

I did a defrag also a malware run and all my updates are to date..
The computer is running Vista if that makes any difference.

So can you please put me on the right track to getting this problem fixed..?

Thank You

Maj

In the past I've had problems with Internet Explorer closing abruptly after a couple minutes of having it open, I solved that problem by downloading Mozilla Firefox. But now I bought and installed WebEasy6 and after a few minutes of opening the program it abruptly closes and I lose my work. I have AOL Safety and Security Center and it tells me there is no known viruses or adware/spyware. I am out of ideas. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
Thanks- Sean

A:Programs closing abruptly

Post a Hijackthis scanlog and also run eventvwr.msc and look at the applications log; if you have IE7 there is also an IE log.

Double click any relevant errors to read the description and use the double-paper copy icon to copy the description here for pasting.

Download and install HijackThis using the "self extractor". Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

Hi, I recently have noticed that programs (like 'cmd' in run, and mIRC (these are the programs I've seen it happen in, everything else I use works fine (for what I have used :P))) will open then close, but the process will be running, they minimize to the taskbar then disappear, but the process is still running! I can make a video and upload it and show you what happens when I start mIRC if you want, please help, I don't want to have to re-install Windows XP, so if anyone has a fix please tell me.

I'm running:
Windows XP Pro SP2

Help please.
