Preferred Solution: I am administrator with no admin privileges, i also get fake warnings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Frustrated with admin rights - Please help me.

Just purchased new PC - HP Pavilion desktop and upgraded to Windows 10 during installation. I've downloaded Google Chrome as my default search engine with no issues. I've attempted several times to download Google Earth. Download fails: "Google Earth needs administrator privileges to install."

I am the only user on this PC and User Account type indicates that I'm the "Administrator".

Why won't Google Earth install?

A:Google Earth won't install - admin privileges required (I am admin)

Hello and welcome!

Sometimes you have to run the installation file and deliberately make it "Run as Administrator" by right clicking on the downloaded file and selecting this option. Not sure if this is the case with Google Earth but worth a try.

I was trying to explain to a friend yesterday the difference between the powers of the hidden Administrator account and a user account with Administrator privileges; but, I don't feel I was successful. I searched for an article on the 'net that would explain one vs the other; but, I could not find one.

Can someone point me to such an article?

A:Solved: Administrator Acct vs User with Administrator privileges

This is an article on how to enable/disable the Built-In Administrator account but at the beginning it explains the difference between the two which, it seems, boils down to whether or not a UAC prompt is needed to gain elevated permission:

Hi.

The main (and only account) I have been using since the first beta came out had administrator privileges.

Today when I booted up I noticed that my account could no longer do things that are associated with an admin account, such as installing certain programs and writing to certain folders.

I created another account with admin rights and that account has the exact same problem. I tried removing the admin status on my account and putting it back on but that did not work.

Anyone else have this problem or have any advice on how to get my account seen as an admin account?

See Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable about enabling the built-in admin account. Once you get it set up I would take a system image with third party software (aomei, eg) so you have a fallback.

Hello everyone Ahh don t you love just Microsoft and its OS designed by a team of idiots led Privileges do I How the Account? Administrator Restore Administrator to by Alfred E How do I Restore Administrator Privileges to the Administrator Account? Neuman Why do people keep buying new products from these worms to keep them in business This problem is more ludicrous than having to remove IE and go back to IE in order to repair XP when you can't boot into Safe Mode or anything else I recently got a machine that was part of an internet caf or so I was told buy the guy selling it Caf software has options to limit what the users can do Evidently it is not dynamic the changes are made in the registry and affect the whole machine even when not part of the Caf network I logged into the Administrator Account which is a complete joke in the real computing world as Bill never got the concept of what a real a Administrator is or what it is they actually do and I find that I have no right-click option I can t get to the Run Command and there is no Administrator menu for getting to system services group policies or anything else So I open a command window from the Accessories menu and try run regedit and I get a notification that quot The Administrator has disabled modifications to the Registry quot Gee and I thought I was the Administrator The login did say Administrator didn t it Yup it sure did Myrtle I found a third party registry editor but I would rather not have to spend the time searching for every single registry entry that has been changed to gain control back I am looking for a third party program that will allow me to reset set various options with check boxes similar to what Caf software has Or the quick fix that lets the Administrator account actually do something I appreciate any help Thanks

A:How do I Restore Administrator Privileges to the Administrator Account?

The Account may be called "Administrator" but it is not the built in Administrator account. go to Start/Run and type compmgmt.msc and hit enter. Open Local Users and Groups. Open the Users folder. Here is a list of the user accounts on the computer. The First one to the right will say it is the built in Administrator account (the actual name may have been changed by the previous owner) You will have to log into this account with it's password to be an actual Administrator to make changes or create your own Administrator account

A:Admin acct has no admin privileges XP pro

There should be an admin account with full rights that was created when Windows was installed but it is usually only available when booting into safe mode. When safe mode starts, he should see an admin account and his account. Have him select admin and then go to control panel, user accounts. There he should be able to set up accounts and change the rights on existing accounts

Hello.  I went to save a text-file note in c:/ today, and Windows told me that I didn't have its permission to save a file there, and I would have to contact the Administrator.  Well, I am the Administrator.  How do I give myself permission to save a stupid file in my own stupid computer?

Thank you kindly.

Al

A:How does an Administrator give himself Administrator privileges?

The application you are using to save the file needs administrator priviledges. So if you are using notepad, you need to open notepad by right-clicking on it and pressing "Run as Administrator". From there you can open the text file you need (or write some text) and then save it to the root directory (C:/)

I got a free computer via a local "Help" disability program (yeah me!) However, things are very different on this system (Win 7) than my old one (I have background from DOS 3.1 - Win XP). I don't know if I'm looking at Win 7 issues or something the computer providers set up (will call when I see replies to this post).

Although I am, as best I can tell, the Admin., several folders are not accessible to me (such as C:\Documents and Settings or C:\Users\All Users).

Do you folks believe that there is an Admin. setting that I fail to see or is it possible that my computer providers made some sort of master Admin. control setting?

Thanks!
Rick

A:Admin. Privileges?

Welcome to the forum.

In Windows 7, Documents and Settings as well as several others in that folder are not real folders, they are Junctions that are there to allow legacy programs to interface to Windows 7's folder structure.

Windows 7 uses C:\Users\*your user name*\Documents and C:\Users\*your user name*\Appdata
(Appdata is a hidden folder) to accomplish what Documents and Settings did in XP.

I need to install a software but when I click the file the UAC comes out and asks the usual questions. What I find weird is it does not give me the option to click YES. Only the NO button shows up. I checked and it seems that I am logged in as a local account. I tired everything but can't figure out to change the account type or log-in as admin. Only resort is to back up and do a restore PC but even the backup won;t let me go past the UAC.
Any help will be much appreciate.d

A:Need help with Admin privileges

You cannot log in as an real admin. If UAC is not letting you past, there there is something wrong with the software or third party security software you may have installed. Where did you get this software and what is the name of it?

A:7-zip admin privileges?

Here are the steps to modify ownership and permissions of folders and files:
  1.       Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
  2.       Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
  3.       Click Edit, and then do one of the following:
 ·         To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click Other users and groups and, inEnter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.
  ·         To change the owner to a user or group that is listed, in the Change owner to box, click the new owner.
  4.       If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on sub containers and objects check box.
  5.       Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.
  6.       Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.
  Additional considerations
   ·         An administrator can take ownership of any file on the computer.
   ·         Assigning ownership of a file or a folder might require you to elevate your permissions using User Access Control.

I purchased a new Alienware computer 2 weeks ago and a couple days ago I noticed I couldn't access my Pictures folder. I also noticed I couldn't do any Admin tasks. I can't open task manager, Open any exe. files and when I right click on C drive I get Access is denied. I don't believe I've made any changes so not sure what went wrong. I could make changes and install programs prior.
Any help would be appreciative.

Open the security tab after right clicking on file or folder and choosing properties. Give your unique account permission by adding it. You have to actually type it and then check boxes too.

Edit | Add

Then type.

I was trying to install a video game called Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst on my computer. It couldn't install 2 executable's saying access was denied. I have it installed on my win7 laptop so I thought I would just copy the files. Once it got near the end it said I need administrative privileges for the exact same 2 files. I tried doing the "Take Ownership" but that didnt do anything. All my PC info is in my profile, and if you need any more info just ask.

Thanks in advance,

I keep bumping into issues that require Administrator access (accessing some directories, installing software, some internet access, etc.). I went to users, and have ONE account there, my account. and next to the account name on the icon it says "Administrator". So if I am the administrator, why all the hoops? I am the only one on this computer, ever, so can I set it up so I have all the permissions I need?

I have recently had problems getting certain programs to work properly (Alzip, Finale 2012 and others), and I've discovered that somewhere along the line, presumably after the last big Windows 10 upgrade, my permissions must have changed. The result of this is that I now have to run these programs as administrator -- even though I have always been the administrator and no one else uses my PC.
Is there a simple way to get all my programs to just open and do their job without having to specify that they be run with administrator privileges?

Hi everybody I have one Adminstrator account for myself and Standard Users for my kids There are a few programs from ASUS update checker etc that run at startup without a UAC notification when I log in to my account but will ask for the Admin password when logging in the Standard User accounts I can't get a snapshot of it since UAC disables everything can I I have tried to followng - set the programs to run as Administrator per this tutorial Run as Administrator Security System Tools - Gave quot Users quot full control of the programs - Gave a specific account both full and privileges UAC Administrator control and ownership of the programs UAC still asks for the password when logging into that account I have Parental Control turned on Would that cause this issue the dialog box I get is UAC There is no apparent issue when we deny the access via UAC and the programs do not load I would prefer that they load accordingly though

A:UAC and Administrator privileges

Well the problem is that the ASUS programs require administrator privileges. Maybe you should disable those programs for your kids and just leave them enabled for your account. Is that an option?

BTW, have you tried it this way?

Elevated Program Shortcut without UAC Prompt - Create

Maybe you can configure those programs to run automatically under your username and password. Kind of like how you can configure services to run under a certain account (by having the computer remember the credentials for that account).

You can use the built-in adminstrator account, but if you do, please make sure it is protected with a really strong password.

What I would advise is use the built-in account to install your applications and set things up how you want them, but revert to your standard account for everyday use on your computer.

Hello,
When a software is developed using Inno Setup Installer, how to disable the administrator privileges to the software? so that, it can be installed even under limited privileges user account?

A:Administrator Privileges

To stop use of Administrator priviledges then it will have to:
a) NOT be installed in C:\Program files but in the users profile e.g. C:\Users\username\a folder
b) Does not add anything to the registry except maybe the HKEY_Current_User area
c) Does not install any drivers of any kind.

"Motor City is unable to access some critical files. This could be because your installation has become corrupted, or because you do not have administrator privileges on this operating system. Please ensure you have administrator privileges and try again. If you are still unable to enter Motor City, try reinstalling."

I have a Celeron 533mhz machine running WindowsMe with 64MB of RAM, so there should be no problem. I have tried reinstalling the game, with the same results. How do I solve this problem and/or acquire administrator privileges on this operating system so my game will work?

Incidentally, this is a standalone laptop with no network attached.

Thanks, Joe

I am trying to uninstall a program and it says I need to have administrator
or power user privileges to uninstall the program. When I set my computer up
I set it up so it assumes I am logging on and I am the administrator. How do
I get the privilege? It says I am an administrator in computer management,

I'm using Windows 7 Professional. Occasionally I get a popup window that tells me to download a new version of my malware program and provides a link to do that. When I click on the link a dialog window pops up and tells me that I need administrative privileges to perform that action. I'm the only user of the computer and I am working with administrative privileges - at least the computer says I'm an administrator. The only way I've found to perform the action is to do it from safe mode. Do I have to disable UAC or is there a command I can use? There is no "Run as Administrator" in the context menu for this item.

I am trying to reinstall Windows Live OneCare and am having problems. Their solution was to install OneCare Cleanup Tool, then restart the computer. When I try to install the cleanup, it will run the first program, but when I click to do the next step it says "You must have Administrator privileges to run this tool".

I DO have administrator privileges! I checked under user accounts and even turned Admin. off and back on, then restarted. I also repeated this with all 4 user accounts on my computer.

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite notebook with Vista Basic Home.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hello! As the title says I can't do anything that requires admin privileges on my computer whether it's running a program as admin or deactivting my firewall/antivirus etc etc. Whenever I try to deactivate my firewall/antivirus nothing happens, and when I try to run a program as admin I end up with a window giving me an error message (I'll add a picture of it). So if anyone has got a clue on how to fix this then please help me, I would appreciate it so much!

EDIT: It's exactly the same error for every program that I try to run. The only thing that isn't the same is the file path shown, it shows the program that I'm trying to run.

A:Can't do anything that requires admin privileges!

Hi Joelmosen First of all, I want to give you a warning about one program you have on your desktop, ComboFix. ComboFix is a very powerful reporting and scripting tool that was developped by sUBs, used by members of the malware removal team here on BleepingComputer (and also on other forums). This tool can easily break a Windows installation if poorly and/or wrongly used. It can make the whole system unbootable and also delete everything present on your drives (leaving you with close to no chance of recovery) or damage your Windows installation so badly that you would be forced to reinstall it. Therefore, you should not be using ComboFix unless you are in one of the two situation listed below:You have been trained in an online malware removal forum to use ComboFix;You are using it under the supervision and instructions of a trained malware removal professional on BleepingComputer or another recognized malware removal forum (UNITE forums for example); If you already ran ComboFix on your system and need assistance with the log, you will have to post a thread in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section of BleepingComputer, where a trained helper will assist you.If you have any questions or concerns about ComboFix, quietman7 wrote a FAQ on it and you'll find all your answers in it.ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look hereAlso be aware that BleepingComputer doesn't provide any advice on how to use ComboFix on your own, due to the nature of the tool and how dangerous it can be when used without supervision or proper training. Is the error message the same for every programs you right-click on and select Run as Administrator? Did you ever run ComboFix on your own on your system? On a side note, that version of AdwCleaner is outdated.

Something has happened to our desktop.  Kaspersky has been unable to update databases; sent them a message and have attempted all steps they suggested but am unable to run anything.  Am not able to run or access anything as admin.  There latest email stated to send them screen shots of everything (have attached them)  Computer will not allow me to see users or change users.  Not sure what's going on.  Estimated to be having the problem for the past 2-3 weeks; coincidentally around the time Internet Explorer completely stopped working.

A:Admin privileges disappeared.....

try safe mode to access admin with  total permissions  In safe mode you shpold be able to fix your problems

cmd in windows does not give full access permissions for some system access

make sure you have I.E. eleven installed down/load a new copy and install if necessary

I left on vacation over the past weekend. Upon my arrival home, I went to my computer to check my mail. I noticed a second account but thought nothing of it on the log-in screen. Later, as I am trying to update my programs such as iTunes, I come to find out that my administrator privileges are gone. My roommate has confessed to changing adding an administrator account and demoting my account. However, the password he set was from a random password generator and is only recorded in a text file on the desktop of the admin account. How do I regain my administrative privileges on the computer and delete the other account?

I have an HP Pavillion p7-1207c.
I have tried restoring the system from a backup, but that requires an admin's permission.
All help is gladly accepted.

A:How do I regain Admin privileges?

Not a smart guy... that roommate of yours!

User Account Password - Change from WinRE

In step 7 do:

Code:
net user name_of_admin_account *
Now give the name_of_admin_account a new password so you can logon. Now you can give the other acount admin priviliges. You can delete the name_of_admin_account when logged on as admin account. Step 8 to 13 aren't needed of course

Hi all So the situation is this I had to setup an existing PC in Admin Privileges Lost the office for a new starter and decided to be lazy and simply change the user account name Lost Admin Privileges I know that was a schoolboy error Since doing this the computer allows me to login fine with the new username password but keeps asking for the Admin login details whenever I try to make system changes update software etc The user account I changed was the admin account so not sure why this is happening I ve tried using every username password that has ever been assigned to that PC but nothing works Is there any workaround to get Admin privileges back so I can fix this FYI - The PC is a member of our work domain so figure this has further complicated things Really hoping this isn t going to need a full re-installation of windows fingers crossed someone out there can give me some good news Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Lost Admin Privileges

The prompt for Admin during installs is actually a good thing (that is the UAC and you REALLY want it to prompt) BUT you can almost always use any log in the Administrators Group

use CP->User Accounts
add user
set type = Admin
*must* add password to it

save and close

runas /user:$whatever$you$just$created cmd
give that password

it will then create the %profile% for that new user

From then on, you can reply with $whatever$you$just$created and its password

Is this possible? We have about 100 remote users who access our office network via VPN rather than RAS. All of these users are running either W2K or XP.

Our problem is that the internet settings on these laptops have been set (purposely) to automatically download updates from the Win Updates site. This bit works fine! But these updates cannot be installed as the users do not have administrator permissions on their local machine.

Is there a way of allowing these updates to install without giving the users full admin rights? (We REALLY don't want to give them these rights as suffice it to say that some of them are not as computer savvy as we would like.)

I have heard a little birdy say that there is a registry update which can bypass the above problem, but how and where?

Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks muchly.

Hello.

I'm trying to inject an DLL with an old program, which worked fine before I re-installed. My old setup was Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 + All updates.

My current setup is the same, Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 and all updates available through Windows Update. (except sp3)

However, it doesn't work. I think it's a privileges issue. My user account is "Administrator" and a part of the "Administrators" group. I've also enabled the "Debug Programs" privileges on my account, even though it's already on by default for administrators.

It fails on this function:

GetWindowThreadProcessId()

It just returns 0. Even though the HWND i'm passing to it is correct (checked, 100 times.)

any suggestions?

Hi

I seem to have lost admin rights/privileges on my account, even though it says i am an admin. I can't use windows update because of the following message. UAC is off.

I created another account and swapped admin privileges to that, and everything was ok, but as soon as i swap the privileges back to my original account, i get various 'this action requires admin rights' etc etc

I'm confused. I don't want to keep logging into another admin account just so i can use windows update.

I've tried this, but it said it couldn't fix all the problems. What can i try next folks?

Cheers

A:Lost Admin Privileges

Just set up a new account. Give yourself privileges for the software in the first account. Make that the new account. The first account is corrupt

You can try this, too.

I know we have touched on this before when I had tried to handle something in file explorer, and now the frustration has extended itself to the desktop.

I am really sick of W10 telling me that I need Administrator Privileges. This time it is to perform an operation to a shortcut on my desktop, but frankly, as I made my account an admin account purposely, for anything.

Has anyone found a way to make any Admin account actually have full Administrator Privileges?

A:Administrator Privileges problems

As far as I know, the only true admin account with full access is the built in Administrator account, which is disabled by default.

Honestly, if you know what you are doing with the computer, you can turn off UAC, but that's about it. As long as you are aware of the risks, it cuts down on almost all prompts. I disable it on all of my computers, but that doesn't mean I tell everyone to do so.

If you think Windows 10 is annoying, then try OSX or Linux. Those prompts are there for a reason, and as someone who works in corporate IT, I'm thankful that Windows has been locked down.

I have read other posts about this problem but none that I have found seem to fit my problem. First of all, I am the admin on my computer and there are no other users but myself. Secondly this problem happens for many functions. For example when trying to create another user account I am not able to because of the shield symbol next to the fuctions.

I have no idea how to remove this because the symbol appears on many areas in the control panel so I cannot get into any areas which may let me.

Also this box comes up when trying to open certain programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to download a file off the Net and it won't install because it says "It may need administrative permission." Well, I did note that I somehow lost ability to access that "administrator" icon somewhere along the way -- (d'ya know what I mean? I was "[myname, the user]" plus "Administrator", but now I can only access the "[myname, the user]" icon). I'm wondering if this is why I can't install it....

(If it's significant, the program I'm trying to install is free Sun's Java -- and I want to install it because it allows me to run payroll deduction calculations right on the Net.)

How can I fix this: a) access my Administrator settings and/or b) install the Java file?

Thanks for your help,

I was frustrated that Windows 8 required me to input my password every time, but after searching online, I found out a way to automatically sign in whenever I start up my computer. Later on, I decided to change my Microsoft account to a local account (can't remember why), and then I changed back. Once I changed back, I had to do the password thing again.

Now, though, my account is set to a "Guest" account, and whenever I'm asked to allow something as an administrator (which tends to happen a lot), I'm not allowed to click "Yes", with "No" being the only option. This is a major issue that needs to be fixed, and any help would be appreciated.

Somehow my administrator privileges on my user account have been lost or deleted. Every time I attempt to to do something requiring them I get a message telling me " I have no administrator privileges on this computer" and I am stopped cold. This is new and I have never had this situation before. It is stopping me from doing things that I must do and is causing many problems for me.

What can I do about it?
Could this have bee caused by a virus?

1. What version of Windows are you running? i.e., XP Home

2. Are you on a LAN?

3. Are Windows Policies being used?

4. Can you logon using the ID ADMINISTRATOR?

I don't have a virus anymore, but what it left in it's wake is what I'm having a small problem with. I was attacked by a virus called Smart Security, but I was helped greatly to fix all that recently here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/320798/smart-security-infection/ . So of course I thought I was fine, but today I tried to install a game that requires administrator privileges and I am an admin. However, it wouldn't let me with the error message administer is only authorized to install etc. I then tried to install it in three more admin accounts and the same error came up. That's the only problem I have with admin privileges though. Everything else a admin can do under a admin username I am allowed to. So what's wrong and how can I get all my admin privileges back so I can install what I want.

A:How can I get my administrator privileges back?

I would try creating a new account, and see if that issue still exists.

This is bugging the life out of me, as I want to get stuff done.

Both me and my friend are running local accounts, and none of us has rights to access temp files.
Installation files are bugging, telling me that the "data is corrupt" or "can't find the files".

What procedures do I need to take to make sure I have full control over my files? I tried administrator group policies, local elevated admin, changing rights, changing ownership of folders, permanently and with the "Take Ownership" quickfix.
What else can be done?

Any ideas as to why wizards can't open temporary setup files, when everything points to the fact that I have ownership?

Hello Emiroda, and welcome to Eight Forums.

While attempting to set up a new computer on our network I seem to have lost access Windows 7, Privileges Administrator to many documents and lost permission to many folders Background while setting up a new computer we began playing with what programs and documents the new computer could access the new machine is to be used for clients and for internet printing privileges we did not want the computer to access anything on the network except the printer Following poor judgement and a snowball effect as it now seems we began denying the new computer access to folders and documents We did the above by right clicking on the public folders where we kept our documents opening the security tab and restricting the permissions We would then deny the new computer access via the ownership tab This seemed to work as the new computer on the network had no access to our files but could still print to the printer on the shared network I wasn't on Windows 7, Administrator Privileges the computer at the time my lackey status didn't permit as such and I think somehow the other person managed remove our access to the programs documents I think they did this by changing the admin privileges to deny for all I am guessing that's what happened because now when I try and take ownership of the files I am unable to open them It will let me take ownership of the files but then still says me access is denied when I try to open any of the selected files of documents does not prompt for password In short Is there Windows 7, Administrator Privileges a way to reestablish my admin privileges after what appears to be simple mistake on which account was selected thanks for reading the wall of text sorry i have no pics to upload

A:Windows 7, Administrator Privileges

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I would hope that the easiest way out of your dilemma is a system restore to a point before the attempt was made to change the permissions configuration.

You may need to go into Safe Mode to do it though.

Also, creating a new user account, and then deleting the old one may do the trick, but I'm not so sure on that one.

Not sure either whether this tutorial will help, but I'll post the link anyway.

I own an hp touchsmart 310-1020 pc running windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
I was trying to sync my iPad 2 to iTunes via USB, but iTunes kept freezing up as soon as I clicked on any function. So I tried to repair it via apple's iTunes download. That didn't work as I still had the same issue. So I uninstalled it. And then tried to reinstall it.
It downloaded just fine, but when it tries to install it pops up with a message saying "You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log on as an administrator and then retry this installation."
My problem is that I am logged in as the administrator, and as such should have full privileges. How do I check that? And are there any other ideas on what the problem is? PLEASE HELP!!!! Am very frustrated!!

Here is the problem in a nutshell. I have Vista Home Premium with several users. I have an account with admin privileges, and the other users were standard. The admin account was invisible, but no password (the default I think). One of the standard users must have gotten in to the admin account, and then gave themselves admin privileges. I've tried removing these privileges, but can't. If I try to change to standard user, it keeps coming back as having admin privileges. I tried in safe mode as admin (using netplwiz), but no luck. I can change admin privileges on my own account, or any other account, but not on this one. I even changed the password on the offending account and logged in with that userid, but still can't change admin privileges, even from within the account. Trying to delete the account doesn't work either.

Any suggestions, short of hanging the offending user upside down by their ankles?

A:Removing administrator privileges

Well, maybe the user has used the task scheduler to give him/herself admin privileges on system start up. That's what I would do :P

Go into the taskschd.msc and look for any tasks that involve a "net" command or the users username.

Or if you cant be bothered doing the technical stuff delete the user and make him/her a new account with a different username.

This is a strange one, we have about 7 Win7 Pro machine in our office along with 20 XP machines. From Computer Management>Local Users & Groups>Groups>Administrators we have Domain Admins assigned here but we also include Domain Users. Our server runs Windows Server 03 R2.

The first problem is that one 2 of the machines, the Domain Users is removed from the Administrator after every log off/on which in turn looses any permissions to install etc. We then have to log on as the local administrator, add Domain Users back in and then log on using our own profile.

The second really strange thing is it seems to be renaming these groups with an SID number instead of keeping the name Domain Users or Domain Admins names where the other 5 computers keep the name.

Any Ideas, as it is becoming very frustrating to not being able to install without having to reset these permissions.

Delete the machines from the domain group and re-add them.
If that fails, perform a re-image on those two machines.

Hi all!

I've run into a weird issue where some of the computers I administer work fine, but some don't. For example, whenever I need to perform a task that requires admin privileges while logged into regular account (usually because it's the most convenient way of doing things), the computers that work fine just ask for the password and off the 3rd party software update goes.

Then again, some other computers ask for the password, and then fail to install 3rd party software updates, referring that I need admin privileges... despite me just having given them a password, and the OS accepting it. The only way around this is to actually log in with the admin account to apply the updates. Not a major hassle, but this is completely random and I'd like to determine the root cause.

Running Windows 7 Pro x64 on basically all the rigs in question (a single exception).

Any ideas?

there is an administrator account and there is a hidden one that you currently do not have access to without specifically activating it. IMO, if you are the only one using the computer, then there is no reason to create separate accounts.

I have asked about this before but did not get an answer.  Every so often when I try to open some apps and in particular the Store itself, I get this message running the full width of the screen:

"Store can't open while File Explorer is rumming with administrator privileges. Restart File Explorer normally and try again.   Close"

How do I do that?  I know how to open things as Administrator, but I have not found out how to remove the status of Administrator already granted!  I am now going to try shutting the PC and restating, hoping that will clear Administrator status / remove administrator privileges.  If it does it will of course only be a temporary stop-gap until I have learned how to do it properly.  If it does not then I am somewhat stuck!

A:Clearing 'administrator privileges'

Hi clayto From what I found, this is something new in Windows 8/8.1 due to the "AppContainer" mode/method. Here if you want to read more about it:http://www.thewindowsclub.com/app-cant-open-explorer-running-administratorhttp://superuser.com/questions/521293/why-does-the-error-app-name-cant-open-while-file-explorer-is-running-with-adThis is what's happening here:Now Windows Explorer normally runs in medium integrity mode, and explorer.exe is the parent process from which all other user-initiated processes inherit their access token. If Explorer is running with admin privileges i.e. at high integrity level, then any Metro apps it launches will inherit that administrative access token, which is obviously a strict no-no as it will violate the sandboxed environment provided by the AppContainer integrity level. Hence the error message thrown.Windows Explorer isn't launched with Admin Rights as far as I know too. It could have something to do with the "Priority" in the Task Manager, but this doesn't affect the access level.

Hallo,

I wrote a Script that uninstalls an application, move some files and install an Application.
The Script is working if I start it as Admin (right click - run as Admin ...).
Everything works fine.

But I want to have it working without the "run as".
The script is only used in a separated Test system,
so there is no problem if the Admin user name and password is in the script.
(also link wouldn't work, should also work if it moves to another station within the test domain)

Is there a way to manage that?

A:Admin privileges in batch script

Batch command runas with a standard trick
echo password | runas
it is NOT going to work, because the password should be entered manually.

If you do not mind clicking Yes in UAC window you can use Elevate.exe
With it you won't need writing password anywhere
"C:\yourFOLDER\elevate.exe" "C:\yourScriptFOLDER\yourScript.bat"
would be enough to start script with admin privileges (still need to click YES on UAC window).

Not necessarily. A standard user account can be infected by some malware. But yes, it is a preventive measure and should be used.Read this : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/create-new-user-account-in-windows-vista-7/I suggest, that you use Sandboxie and run your browser inside it. http://www.sandboxie.com/Sandboxie runs your programs (like your browser) in a totally isolated space, so even if a malicious site installs something, all you have to is clean the contents of Sandboxie. Some antivirus like avast! also have an inbuilt sandbox which run suspicious programs inside it automatically, preventing them to make actual changes to your computer.

Beginner level

After a failed Windows Update some months ago, I was unable to get any further updates. The error message 80070005 indicated I did not have 'privileges' to do so. I installed Hotfix, although not sure what this actually achieved. After Flash crashed later on, I tried to install the newest version, but again, I do not have Admin Privileges to do so. Tried with and without Norton 360 running, with and without Windows Defender running.
Looked at User Accounts. Tried with and without User Account Control turned off.
Gave the PC several full scans, no problems detected.
Looked at some online tips, but as a beginner, don't want to go anywhere near tinkering with the Registry.
