I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Defective hard drive is my guess.
Have you tried removing and reinstalling the partition? If you cannot do that, you should try another hard drive as a test.

Another problem I have is that every few seconds the computer just slows down, to the point where the pointer is completely stuck. It stays like this for about 20 seconds, then goes back to normal for about 30 seconds.

A:No dual boot on HP Pavilion DV9500 series

I have the DV9200t and I am booting into Vista x64, Ubuntu Linux, and XP. The problem is similar to yours, and that is if I boot into XP I have to disable the SATA capability in the BIOS and that is a pain each time. I can leave it off all the time but then the drives are not running at full capacity.

I have the latest chipset loaded on. I loaded them after the install. To install I disabled SATA. I am curious if anyone used F6 during Windows install to load the drivers then had luck with SATA enabled?

It is sad HP is taking this course of limiting the OS. Us power users are sought out by friends, peers, management on our opinions. Just think the next time someone ask for our advice on what laptop to go with. I hope HP gets a clue. I have been happy with the laptop other than the multiboot/bios problem.

A:HP Pavilion g6 not booting?

Hi, The 24 character error code ( plr2x3-6kj84d-mfpwwj-60xd03 )  is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the notebook suffering a fall as you describe. If you would like an example of a suitable replacement HDD and a guide on replacing the Drive yourself, post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your g6 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation - and the version of Windows installed on the notebook. Regards, DP-K

It takes multiple attempts to boot up. It starts and then stops. This happens from a cold start. It doesn't matter if its plugged in or not. Today I took out the battery and then put it back in and got the computer to turn on. I called HP support some time ago and they fixed it by updating some drivers.  I don't know if this was before or after I installed Windows 10.

Hi, The 24 character error code does confirm a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the boot issue you describe. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your g6 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation. Regards, DP-K

I'm having problem with my HP Pavilion laptop. When I first got it which is 3 days ago it was fine. But somehow it didn't boot up suddenly. Blank screen, no led indicators, nothing. The battery indicator did light up when I connect the charger suggesting that the battery is fine. When I press the power button it does nothing. The power button did lights up though. I did try leaving it just to see if it actually going to boot and it does, but only after 4 hours. But now it just won't boot. Please help. I can't send it for warranty until next week since I'm away. Thanks in advance.

Nice machine and configuration.
I would first try removing two memory modules, and attempting a boot with the third.. then if that doesn't work, change modules until you have tried all three.
It is difficult to trouble-shoot a machine like that... but we are seeing a LOT of ealy failures in the large laptops hard drives from 250 GB to 500 GB, so suspect that your hard drive might be bad. A good test would be to try any other known good hard drive from 80 GB on up to 500 GB... can you borrow one, then try to format and install it.
If still dead when you change memory and hard drive, it is time to get it back to HP for warranty work.
Anything you do that is not memory and not a hard drive will void your warranty.

Which chipset do you have?

Run CPU-Z to identify it

then go to Intel and download the chipset driver for XP

I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment with Vista. When I pressed the power button, the first boot screen came up (black with the HP logo), like it's supposed to do. However, it stayed at this screen for five minutes at which point I held down the power button and then tried again.

The same thing happened two more times. Then I turned it off for a few minutes and made sure it had enough air and moved it to another location. And then it worked.

It's ok now, but I'm a little worried the next time I won't be so lucky. Anyone familiar with this problem? Should I be worried?

Hi Welcom to Techspot
yes Be afraid Be very afraid (Only joking).

This does indicate some problem, But it is difficult to diagnose, When you power on from now on Watch the Hdd activity light on the Base Unit, and note if it flashes or stays on permanently and post back.

If your pavilion is new and you are still under warranty I suggest you contact HP or your supplier before it escalates into a serious failure..

Testing in QuickPlay, which I have and dont get an option to view webcam.
Update drivers, cant seem to find any drivers, although can't seem to find any hardware or software associated with the webcam on the laptop. (this might be the problem)
Set up in Windows Live Messenger
Set up in Yahoo
Set up in Skype
None of the above work. Has anyone else had similar problems with this laptop, or does anyone know where I can get some software I can use to get it working?

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-3079wmI dissasembled it to clean the mother board fan and when I put it back togather again it would shut off every five minutes when logging in to windows 7. During memory tests such as memtest86 or Dos scan the laptop will switch off after scanning to 5% or even up to 15%. If I boot to safe mode it will be on for several hours. All research thus far indicates either bad memory or heat sink thermal paste. For the memory test i removed both memory cards and tried them individually in each slot. Doing this did not make any difference. Any help in diagnosing the problem will be much appreciated.

Yes it will work fine. The mounting holes are in the same place. You might wind up with an empty port or have to use a dremel tool to open up a small hole in the side but the board will work fine.

When my HP Pavilion p7-1529 starts up, the power light briefly flashes orange then turns off. The fan inside runs perfectly fine. Upon being connected to a monitor, the monitor says "No Signal" even though the computer is powered on. The power light at the back is green and solid. When the problem first started, the boot light would be blue but there'd be no response from the monitor, and after leaving it on for several minutes, it would automatically restart itself and then everything's fine. But the next day, this happened, and it just wouldn't boot. I think there's something wrong with the booting priorities in the BIOS. I would like to try resetting the boot priorities and the BIOS, but I don't know how to do that without being able to see the options on the monitor.

I bought this computer last June and couple months ago problem started.
Problem 1 : System suddenly stop and non of the keyboard or mouse work.
Problem 2 : At time of booting, it freeze and need to hard restart by pushing power botton
Problem 3 : More than half of the time computer doesn't connect through wireless and device manager shows there is no wireless adaptor
[personal information removed] and product number is J5R51AV
To fix the problem, I tried to upgrade window 7 to 10 which was not helpful.
Also tried format to the manufacture setting which was not helpful and interestingly it still have window 10 instead of 7.

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

Hi I just got a ASUS G V series and updated it to windows professional with Intel core i I was able to work with it and everything was fine until I had to install XP because some softwares are not compatible with Win x I have Win on drive C and windows xp on drive into 7, directly & booting XP booting boot Win manager Issue no E which in windows XP Issue booting Win 7, booting directly into XP & no boot manager environment it is shown as drive C again I have two HDDs GB each So as you can predict I tried using the dual booting and followed the tutorial for that on the website I wasn't able to get it to work exactly and each time I had to change the bios settings to boot either win or win XP I downloaded easyBCD and was trying to get it to work but my silly mistake was I Reset BCD configuration under BCD backup repair tab and ever since I haven't been able to load windows and the laptop directly loads windows xp I ran easyBCD in windows xp and tried to fix the problem by adding the bootloader for windows there but nothing seems to work I am really stuck and I can not reinstall windows because it is set up with all the softwares for my work

A:Issue booting Win 7, booting directly into XP & no boot manager

It sounds like you have the OS's installed on two separate HD's, and were booting them correctly via the BIOS - setting preferred one first to boot in BIOS setup, then booting the other one using the one-time BIOS Boot menu key.

To restart Win7 unplug all other HD's, Mark the 100mb System Reserved (preferred) or Win7 Partition Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

Once Win7 starts, plug back in the XP HD and boot it using the Asus F8 one-time BIOS Boot Menu key, or install EasyBCD to Win7 to add XP on its Add OS entry tab.

I am trying to help a friend. Her computer would hardly boot yesterday, but after 10 minutes or longer, it would load. Programs hardly run and if they do are impossibly slow to run. Windows task manager keeps popping up. It won't close. We tried to set the registry back to an earlier date, but it won't take. My guess is that is a virus. She had AVG anti-virus running now it won't run either. Any thoughts? Any reliable online site which could scan the computer?

Recently I purchased a laptop with windows 8 64 bit pre-installed in it. For my job purpose, I needed windows 7 32 bit. After searching the web and also using the information I got from this site, I disabled secure boot, deleted the recovery partition and converted GPT partitions to MBR. Then I shrink the Big partition in which windows 8 was installed to make room for the windows 7 partition. Then I created a new partition and installed windows 7 on it. After this whenever I switch on the computer, a message come up, saying that a required device cannot be found and windows is to be repaired. The only way in which I can start windows is to go to bios, select the boot options and then select boot from notebook hard drive.

Can anybody please tell me how this problem can be solved

when you created the new partition did you make itin front or behind the existing partition?

If your boot manager is looking to boot Win 8 on Disk 0 Part 1, and you created the new partition in front of Win 8, your Win 7 will now be located on Disk 0 Part 1 which is where the boot manager is expecting Win 8

can you send us a screen cap of your disk management?

Good Afternoon,
Would like to pose this question and see if any of the group can assist me.

I currently image our new CPU's with a secure image of Windows XP Sp2. Our computers (desktop and laptops) mainly consist of Dell's and images work fine thanks to our information management staff. However, our director has an HP Pavilion dv8000 notebook that I cant get an image to take on it. It just goes into a cycle of choosing safemode or boot normal.

The weird thing is, I have an option at the start of the image to choose "network" or non-network (stand alone) and the stand alone image works fine.

Are they any settings on this HP that I need to turn off or on for the network image to work?

Thanks in advance

If you go to the linked HP page and enter your product number, you should be able to find the HP drivers for your touchpad:

If there are no Win10 drivers, then you should not have upgraded to Win10, because not every HP machine running Win8.1 is upgradeable to Win10 without problems. You could have checked the compatibility on the HP site prior to the upgrade.

Hiya morgansssss,

Right mate do you have all the Quickplay software. If so all you need to do is goto Start, Computer, Devices, Hardware. At the top of the page you will see System Devices. Click it.

You will then see a window just like XP. Hit the hardware tab then scroll down to the USB line.

Once there you should see "USB composite device". Right click on it and choose Enable.
There will be a pause as the device is enabled.

You will then need to scroll up a little and find "imaging devices". Right click on "HP Webcam" and enable it.

That should sort it out. If not let us know.... Hope that helps. Peace

Hi, The error 'Primary (internal) Battery (601)' does indicate that your notebooks main battery ( not the cmos battery as the error tends to suggest ) is showing signs of wear and you may want to consider replacing it - the 601 error typically occurs when the storage capacity has fallen below 25% of its original value. Further information on this can be found on the following HP document. This is a warranty item, so if your notebook is still covered, contact HP and arrange to have it replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. Regards, DP-K

I was about to do a restore on my computer today. I restarted my computer and hit the F10 key like always, but nothing happens, the computer just restarts. I tried it repeatedly with the same result. I went back to my computer and seen that the restore partition is still there can anyone tell me why I cannot get my restore working? Is there a way around this I mean is there another way to activate my restore?

it looks like another friend dropped off a computer that is completely messed up. its a hp pavilion 6640 or somthing like that. my friend claims it has upgraded memory but i know it came with at least 64mb. it came with win 98 on it, then was upgraded to millenium but dragged ****. i tried putting ubuntu 5.10 and 6.10( whatever the newest discs are) but it didnt work, then it made sense when i found out the specs of the machine. so is there a user friendly linux or a way to crack win 98 se? the box dosent have a "key" sticker on it so no 98 se key.

It should run ubuntu. I had a lower spec'd Pavilion with a P2 300 in it that came with 48 megs of ram. I upgraded the ram and had Mandrake 7 running on it fine.

HP Pavilion g7 right speaker is non-functional. The issue occurred after unit was dropped. I am absolutely certain it is not driver, software or balance settings etc etc etc... Is it possible that the connection was jarred loose somehow? Both channels work through headphones.

A:hp Pavilion

Could be the connection, or something broke like the actual speaker, one of the wires, or the circuit board/adapter/plug for the speaker.

You will need to open it up and a look, no other way around that.

I just bought an HP Pavilion and tried to set it up.  I could not get the existing monitor to work with the new hard drive.  He new Pavilion does not have the same way of connecting the monitor that the old one did.  I had to take it apart and put the older machine back in.  Why can't I connect my monitor.  The plug just won't fit.

A:New HP Pavilion set up

Okay, we need more information from you, like... -PC model number (not just Pavilion, but the whole model number as a LOT of Pavilion PCs exist.)-Monitor model number and brand, or pictures of ports on the rear.  It sounds like you will need to buy an adaptor which is easy enough to obtain; we just need to know which adaptor to get you.
