Preferred Solution: Removal of MyPC Backup now has computer running super slow

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

While updating Flash Player, Optimizer Pro and MyPC Backup both seemed to install on my computer.  Constantly getting warnings and pop-ups, etc. I have read a few posts on this forum with similar circumstances, and it seems like it may be in my best interest to remove them.  I am not an advanced user, and any help in doing this would be appreciated!  Thanks, rodge48

The MyPC Backup icon appeared on my desktop last night and I tried to remove it (via safe mode with networking and then uninstalling, which apparently works- it doesn't). The desktop icon is now gone (because I unwittingly deleted it from the recycle bin too), but a search will reveal the files in Programs. I scanned with Malwarebytes, but it showed up as safe; then I tried to scan with Avast! but Avast! had been shut down and will not start up. The folder that has MyPC in it contails a file called Uninstall, which doesn't work when you click on it, because the entry apparently does not exist.

Windows 7 starter.

Hi...I was helped with a BSOD problem in the XP section...I finally figured out it was a driver in my external drive causing the crashes..I removed it and now the computer is stable but very slow..Opening explorer or any programs or website takes about 20 seconds..I scanned with several malware programs and all were clean except 2..Spyware doctor claimed it found TDSS and Advanced System Care found Win32swizzor.au but said it removed it..A second scan then was clear... I also ran a complete system scan with Avira and no virus was found. I can't get to the bottom of why this thing is so slow..I checked ram with Memtest and it showed no errors..The computer runs fine in safe mode with networking. Is there a way to completely rule out malware or virus problems? Thanks for any help.

My friends computer is running really slow all of the sudden. It's maybe a year old and he has Windows XP-Home and is currently using America Online 8.0 as is ISP. I defragmented his harddrive already. I'm thinking he must have all kinds of spyware on his computer or something so I downloaded Spybot S&D and it downloaded and installed but for some reason at the very end when it said finish and scan, and I clicked ok, I got this Error message that said access denied or something like that. And when I click on the shortcut icon on the desktop it wont open up-I get the hourglass for a second and then it goes away but nothing opens. Any suggestions on what I should do or what the problem might be? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks!

A:Computer running super slow!

Try rebooting into Safe Mode and see if Spybot can do its work in there. Also download AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com update and run that in Safe Mode as well. Delete all his Temporary Internet files, Cookies and History. Right click the AOL icon in the notification area, go to Utilities and Clear Browser Cache. Go Start>Run type in $temp$ and delete everything in the right hand pane of the next window. The defrag the hard drive.

Then in Explorer, create a new folder in Programme Files and call it HJT. Go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and download Hijack This, unzip it to that folder and run it. Copy and paste the resulting log back here and don't let HJT fix anything until you here from someone in this forum.

A couple days ago I began getting pop ups saying "Your computer is not backed up, backup your files online today!"

I have tried "uninstalling" it in the add/delete files and I it disappeared, so I thought I was done...but I'm still getting the stupid pop ups!

I did a search on my computer ...and deleted the files out of the Start/User folders..,but I'm still getting pop ups and I still get results when I search for it...but when I click take me to folder...folder is gone...lol

A:GRRRR MyPC Backup is downloaded on my computer and I can't get rid of it!

Rebecca,
try this:
hit the windows key and the R key at the same and this will bring up the run box. In the run box, type   msconfig, and hit enter. you would then click on the startu tab, and anything with the "pc backup" name uncheck the box. (in this area, it will also show you the file path, so you could go to that path, and verify if any of the files remain. Reboot the pc, and this very well may resolve your issue.

Hello and Welcome to Bleeping Computer!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. A:Computer running super slow [Pls help ASAP :)]

Hi, silverbear_87

Welcome.

You are overprotecting your computer. Remove all Security Programs, except for your Antivirus. Yes, Zone Alarm should go also.

There is no evident malware in the log. Go to Start and right click on My Computer. Check the amount of RAM detected. Is it consistent with what is suppose to be installed?

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Hopefully going through these steps will solve the problems you are having with the pc being slow:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.

Go here for info on msconfig:

Pacs Portal

You can look up the startups at the following links to help determine what is needed and what is not:

ComputerCops

Windows Startup

A:Help with a strange problem, Computer running super slow

Don't rule out a motherboard (or CPU) problem. Since the power supply died while running, anything is possible. If you suspect memory, remove all but one memory module and see if that makes a difference.

Also, reset the BIOS and see if that makes any difference.

You can first try this:
http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:
http://69.107.93.24/Blog/52015/

You could then use that as your primary OS.

Hello,

After removing a virus off of my pc, it began to take long periods of time to load at startup. Once the desktop has loaded (about 30 minutes later), everything is very sluggish. There also seems to be something running in the background but when I check my task manager, I dont see anything suspicious. I'm currently using safe mode which is running smoothly as the normal mode should. I have microsoft security and maleware bytes and there are no viruses left on the pc.

was sent here by a nice guy at forum malwarebytes who helped me over 10 days/nights to free my Windows 7 desktop of malware and other nasties. Began with a black screen with cursor and no other display. Well now I am free of all that, the computer is slow slow slow. Browsers take ages to load, everything does. Have reset all browsers and removed add ons, no change. Am running ESET Smart Security, Malwarebytes Pro and Anti-Logger Free Protection is on so don't believe there is any problem there. PC is a Dell I got in 2008 - maybe I need a new PC? what suggestion do you have? I do have Windows 7 upgrade disk and the Vista one that came with the PC.

any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance and expectations..................

Try following this guide to repair windows. I know that it is for Vista but the procedure should be similar to 7. If all else fails you might need to reinstall Windows. Repair Vista Options - Preferred Sequence

A:Is MyPC Backup a virus?

G'day phineasphreak, and Welcome to BC

Personally, I would not touch it with a barge pole.

The program also relies on deceptive behavior...which is probably what you have already read about.  There are many pages written by respected authors on the subject of getting rid of it....

MyPC Backup is a paid online backup program that is typically added when you install another free software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this program. Very often users have no idea where did it come from, so it’s not surprising at all that most of them assume that MyPC Backup is a virus. \

So......if you after something that is not deceptive.......http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

if you want to just click the button and have it do the thinking for you, then I can recommend the paid version.

There are many others.....i recommend that one from personal experience.

So I downloaded some sketchy software (against my better judgement) and got slammed with a bunch of crapware being suddenly installed on to my system. I got into safe mode, and removed everything I could see from the control panel. I also ran MalWarebytes and my AV to get rid of everything they could find. BUT, I am still having this stupid popup with the URL http://jmp2.in/taskmbbackuppclgwarn, which then immediately directs to mypcbackup.com. I updated to win10 from my win7 and it continues. I have tried several antimalwares besides MB. They don't find anything. I have browsed through my registry for anything connected to it and can find nothing. I have checked out a few forums about removing it, but nothing has worked. Anyone have any ideas? I'd hate to have to do a clean install. Thanks.

I am getting pop-ups from a program MyPC Backup, which I suspect is malware. I have deleted the registry entries for MyPC Backup, and want to delete the program itself. It is in Program Files<x86>. The delete fails stating it is in use. I think it can be deleted from Safe Mode, but I can't get into Safe Mode. I've tried pressing shift F8, but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Thanks ...

A:Can't Delete MyPC Backup

Hi TexasBandit,
To access safe mode on an XP machine, you must repeatedly tap f8 when the computer is first starting up until you get to a black screen with white lettering that displays the option for Safe Mode. It should look like this:

And yes, you should be able to delete the Program Files entry from safe mode. But can I ask why you didn't just uninstall the adware normally from the "Add/Remove Programs" list?

I have a really annoying popup that appears to be a sneaky install from Roxio Easy Media Creator 8. I removed Roxio but the Sonic popup comes up trying to install itself. It happens 100% of the time on boot, and every time I open a Web page or hover over a link. I have spent some time talking to good help on malwareremoval and we both agree it's not malware or a virus. It's just super-annoying and I want to get rid of it. My malwareremoval topic appears here:

Hi all I m planning to buy Backup MyPC by Stomp formerly Veritas Backup Exec Desktop Pro compatibility speed Backup MyPC Their compatiblity list shows Backup MyPC speed compatibility it s compatible with the Plextor CD writer I sent Stomp an email asking what the likelihood is that it would also work okay with the new Plextor and there s been no response unlike Veritas in the past which was very responsive oh well Plextor however was very promt in responding in the middle of the night no less Their compatibility list for the Plextor also lists Backup Backup MyPC speed compatibility Exec Desktop Pro but not the newer version by Stomp but I ll take the leap of faith that that much is copasetic Plextor tech support Backup MyPC speed compatibility told me that if it s listed as compatible with their it s also going to be listed as compatible with their soon They said quot The software compatiblity list for the will be the same list as the current one shown for the plus any other software that s tested and approved for the quot They did not say anything more than that It seems that that s perhaps too good to be true or maybe a bit hopeful though since it seems to me that the software would likely be able to handle slower write speeds than what s it s been approved for but that the faster speed is where it would get challenging And yet Plextor has a superb reputation so I d think I can trust what their tech support clearly tells me Comments Thanks nbsp

I've been using STOMP Backup MyPC 4.85. I've had no problems with it and Windows XP Home.

But I just dowloaded the STOMP 6.0 version, which reportedly works with xp SP2.

My Question:

Does 4.85 work with xp SP2 (the STOMP website did not address this issue)?

If not, I'll have to do a full back up using 6.0 (which I'm trying to avoid).

Has anyone had good or bad results with Windows XP SP2 using Backup MYPC 4.85 or 5.0?

I will appreciate any feedback.

Go to the Malware removal and hijackthis board
http://forums.techguy.org/54-malware-removal-hijackthis-logs

Explain your situation and post the log .
If you can find in the avast log what virus and adware it found that would be an item you should include.
It sounds like the virus may have changed some things on your computer which are causing this problem.
Also, empty your temp internet files , and any cookies you do not absolutely need (tools , internet options/ general ) You may just have some bad pages cached.

I recently cleaned my computer of dust using compressed air now the cpu is running very very slow.

A:CPU is running super slow now

Do you have benchmarks, or any readings what so ever to prove this. If not that's where we need to start, if you clean it up it should be able to have more room to breathe so it should stay relatively cool, can you monitor temperatures?

Is there a specific application you where able to run amazingly fast and now it doesn't work like it was before?

I recommend you going back to your tower and make sure everything is nicely connected and plug in.

Hi all

I'm afraid I have downloaded a bad link from Cnet (which I thought I could trust) to install 'Hitman Pro3' ironically I managed to d/l a bunch of malware instead.

I keep getting a pop up which reads:

"Reminder Your computer is not backed up, Backup your files online today"

There is a little button which takes you to a web portal which asks you for some personal details so that you can open a 'free account' etc.

I ran AVG AntiVirus which identified a few threats and apparently dealt with them, but this one remains.

I have looked on the site for a generic fix but can't seem to find one, so I would be grateful for some guidance with this from one of you guys.

Hey Everyone,

First, thanks for taking a minute to help!  I normally research and fix on my own as needed (especially my own computer), but a friend of mine brought her laptop over telling me she had a pop up, and extremely slow computer. Soon as I opened it, I noticed the MyPCBackup and I'm always a little green around the gills when it comes to editing registries.

I read up on the previous MyPCBackup victim posts but since I see quite a bit on her laptop, I figured it'd be best to have direct help.  She's on windows 7.  I ran spybot S&D but of course it didn't recognize anything.

Again, I appreciate any help provided!

Hi,

My mom said she tried to download words with friends (not sure from where) but now there's a handful of programs on the computer now - Advanced System Pro, Reg Clean Pro (systweak), My PC Backup, Search Protect by conduit, and Wise Convert.

I did uninstall wajamupdaterV3 from the control panel. I saw that all of the programs have an uninstall except Search Protect. Can they be completely deleted using the uninstall? The computer is running XP 32bit with Norton and Malwarebytes but I haven't ran either.

Thank You

Hi baseballfan00,

Try running the uninstallers for these programs first. Then we can probably clean up the leftovers after by running a few programs, starting with MBAM:

Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
Post the log back here.

My PC is running very slowly all of a sudden. It will peak to 100% CPU usage for no reason, and my McAfee virus scanner will come up and say it has been turned off for no reason (6-10 times daily). I have run McAfee after ensuring it is fully up to date, and also MalWare and neither of them are finding any problems. I have nothing major running that I can find, and this happens when trying to open something as basic as FireFox.

Any help is greatly appriciated.

A:Windows XP running SUPER slow!!! HELP!

First of all, you are running HijackThis out of a temporary directory. Please download the HijackThis below which will extract into its own directory, or you wish please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). Then extract HijackThis into the folder you have created and run it from there. The reason for this is that Hijackthis cannot create backup files whilst it is being run from a temporary folder.

When you have done this, then make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for HijackThis and please wait for a HijackThis expert to assist you in doing any repair work necessary, they are the people with the little Gold Shield next to their name.Click to expand...

Filename = 1137518044HJTsetup.exe

Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A security expert should take a look at your log - please be patient.

I recently dropped my Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop, after realizing the hard drive was ruined, I went and got a new one. I had a hard time getting Windows Vista installed but after 3 times of trying (reformatting before the 3rd time) it finally worked. I had to reinstall driver for my wireless and Ethernet card. I am running Vista, BUT after the new hard drive everything is running SUPER slow.
There isn't any abnormal sounds coming from the computer and upon inspection the only thing I found wrong was the hard drive.

I use my laptop to work and it not working right really is cutting into my paycheck so someone please help.

It started few days ago. My laptop became very hot and very slow with just nothing apart from google chrome with 1 tab open and Windows Live Messenger running. I have tried running scans with MBAM, superantispyware, avira to run the scans and no virus were found. I had to use Balanced mode and even when watching a movie it lags every few minutes. is there any solution apart from formatting? the hard disk part is the hottest and sometimes it just shuts off due to overheating.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, core i5 2.27 GHz, 4GB DDR3.

EI is running Super slow.
Firefox is running Super slow
Outlook Express is also running Super slow to the point that the connection times out.

Here is what I have done:

The system is running fine - I am just having this major slow down with any type of internet program. The internet connection is fine because I am typing this on another machine on the same internet connection. The internet was fine last night - I didn't notice this problem until this morning when my wife woke up.

I see you have only 2 GB of ram and thats its fairly slow - that might be your "bottleneck". Win 7 likes lots of ram. And You are running 64 Bit windows so you need even more ram. You dont mention your processors speed in your "System Specs"

Hello,

I got a T450s, brand new and everytime I am not plugged in (it's a laptop after all) the computer litteraly slows down to a point where it is unusable, a simple key (space, a letter, a number) will usually take 3-5 second and sometimes up to 20 seconds to register, no software is usable, CAD, video playback and authoring, completely useless when on battery. The thing is this is a laptop, I WILL use it on battery. That is despite me choosing high performance in the Lenovo power manager.

Anyway I can fix this?

My Dell Inspiron laptop came with Windows installed in I had Windows installed via download in August At first the speed was fine Now my laptop is so slow that it has become almost unusable I often click on something and have to wait to seconds for a reaction Just shutting down can take minutes Looking in the task manager I see under Processes that my memory is slow with Windows 10 running super System full System running super slow with Windows 10 and the System process is using more than Mb of memory I have tried many things to speed up my laptop I tried modifying the paging file size for virtual memory to a lower size but then I kept getting low memory warnings every few minutes and my apps would close if I ignored the warnings I end up needing a large paging file System running super slow with Windows 10 size to Mb way more than the recommended size of Mb to avoid low memory warnings So of course System running super slow with Windows 10 Windows is shuffling a lot of data back and forth to the disk slowing everything down I eliminated every app from opening on Startup that I don't need although of course I don't know what many of the apps listed in the Startup menu do so I leave them alone My anti-virus eats a lot of memory but I need that Since I'm in Europe we don't have Cortana so that's not a problem Can anyone recommend ways to reduce the high demand on memory by the System process If so please help and using layperson's terms I have a Ph D but not in computer engineering

A:System running super slow with Windows 10

Hi, certainly you're quite right that if your PC thinks it's starved of memory it will be very busy swapping disk to RAM & v. versa. (page file).

a. say how much RAM is equipped on your PC
b. post a screen shot (picture) of your task manager full screen height - click on the 'Memory' tab to organise by highest at top

Have a look at any programs you recognise that are taking up a lot of RAM. Do you need these running?
Thanks

It's taking literally minutes to open a Internet Explorer window, to open my e-mail program, and even once inside my e-mail program it takes half a minute to switch from one email to another in my inbox.

The first signs were a couple weeks ago. It was taking 20 to 30 seconds to open a word document. But that was the only trouble for a while.

I am running Windows XP.
NB: I installed, then un-installed SP2 about a month ago. Things seemed to work fine--until the above problems began.
