Does anyone recommend nlite?

Q: Does anyone recommend nlite? what I read about it, its a program that can remove windows components, which doesnt seem very safe. Upon further reading, I derived that nlite can make an image of windows, with only the components of your choice. Which you can then burn to a cd.Here is some more info from the homepage: if you dont use component removal, it still has some good features, like Service Pack integration, Driver Integration, and Hotfixes Integration..which I assume would help your comp run faster.I dont have and DVD Discs, or a seperate HDD, to backup on before I test this out, but when I do, I will let you know how it worked. If anyone has already tried out n-Lite, please give us your opinion

Preferred Solution: Does anyone recommend nlite?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have to perform reinstallation of Operating Systems frequently, and am wondering if I can take the output file of the XP "Files & Settings Transfer Wizard" and integrate it into an nLite XP Installation Disk.

A:nLite Question: Can nLite integrate Files & Settings ?

Hi Jerry Springer !

If you choose to transfer only the settings (transfering the files would likely result in a too big file) you could add the file as is on the nlite CD so that you can run the wizard once everything is installed but I doubt you can integrate the settings right away during the installation. You may want to ask on the nlite support forum for a better answer, maybe there's a plugin of some sort :

P.S. : the feature was suggested by another user a year ago but no answers

I take it you're reinstalling systems for other people ? Else look at the DriveImage + BartPE tutorial we've got here :

Well, as the title says, I would like to know if it is legal to use nLite to add/change drivers in the XP installation files and then burn it back to CD. Of course, while using a legal copy of XP to begin with.
If not, what is the alternative for, lets say, SATA-drivers (no floppy drive)?

A:Is the use of nLite legal?

Well...I'll ask you a question that will provide the answer: Is it legal to burn a copy of an XP install CD?

Of course it's the license to use that operating system that is important, not the media that carries the files. As long as there is a valid license used with any actually do the install...there is no question of legality.

You can have umpteen different versions of XP install CDs...but, without a valid license, that install will not succeed.

The same principle applies at all times: One license, one XP install on a system.

All nLite allow users to edit the files which go into the install impact at all on the license (which is the legal aspect of user relationships with Microsoft).

WhenI use Nlite to install a copy of Xp pro, my driver for my NIC card never works when install is complete. Is there a reason why it doesn't work? Also, is there a way to add in other software features with nlite such as adding in my internet security suite and other microsoft applications it might need?

A:Nlite Question

It's been a while since i used nlite but from memory it does use commands.txt in the $OEM$ folder to run custom installers and edit system files regitry tweaks etc. and you can add your own commands to that.Have you found the latest driver for your NIC card and put it in the drivers page in nlite? is a very good resource for custom\unattended installations of windows.

I search on the web for one program that SUPPORT WINDOWS 8.1 customizations like the nlite was do for win7 and i didn't find any gui program that support windows 8.1.

Is there any that kind of program?

I want to COMBINE into one and only BOOTABLE ISO FILE these win 8.1 releases.

And what is the difference between sw_dvd5 releases vs en_windows releases?

A:Nlite look like program

You probably could, but you would need to put the 64 bit images into the 32 bit media. No idea how you would get the 64 bit upgrade/repair install in that.

There are lots of things you can not do with 8xx, that we can do with win7. Sorry, but there is less freedom with 8xx.

Don't know of any simple gui type things for 8xx yet. You may as well do it by hand, I don't think the result will be very satisfactory.

What items does nLite mark as safe to remove from Windows XP that in your opinion should not in fact be removed ever? I have a whole list of things I removed from Windows XP and it SEEMS to run fine, but please let me know if there are a few RED FLAG components that need to remain in Windows no matter what.

A:nLite Question

WQhen you remove something that needs to be there you will know immediately after the next reboot. I doubt if there is any one including Bill Gates that can answer your question with any degree of accuracy in a proper way.

In my opinion if it ain't broke do not try to make it broke....

When it comes to using this and wanting to integrate NIC drivers to it, which files do I need to copy from the NIC install Cd instead of copying the complete contents of the CD?

A:Nlite Question

The drivers that your NIC actually uses.

If you have a Realtek NIC, no point in copying drivers for any other type of NIC from the CD.

I'm trying to slipstream a Sata .exe driver into XP folder using nLite, nLite only wants to see .INF files - it will not transfer the .exe file.... so  do I just drop the .exe Sata driver in the 'slipstream' folder?
I had no problems streaming Sp3 into the XP previously.   I was hoping do a new build, XP 32 bit being a must have for my work purposes - no gaming, no videos.
TBH, I was thinking of a A6-5400 APU and a Gigabyte GA-F2A88-D3H mobo - this doesn't have a floppy as so many people seem to recommend to use at the F6 option when installing.
Anyone could throw any light, thanks. Dave.

A:.exe file and nLite

You cannot drop an exe file for the SATA drive in nlite. You need the inf and the Txtsetup.oem file also.
The file is here. This is for XP 32bit. It's a self extracting exe file. If you have winrar or 7zip you can extract the contents. Your files are in the AHCI folder.

Iíve successfully installed XP MCE in a HP d4996t Ö with this Mobo.

I had to temporarily install a floppy to load the SATA drivers at the F6 prompt.

I can backup and recover this install using Acronis Ö
But Iím now trying to make a XP MCE install DVD and include the SATA drivers using nLite Ö
And avoid the floppy SATA driver F6 procedure.

If I can get this to work then I might try to include the other stuff I need to load.
Currently .. the DVD says .. terminating to avoid destroying your computer.

Am I doing something wrong by trying to load the SATA drivers ICH9R (as a driver) to nLite ??

Can I create an nlite CD or DVD without all the crapware?

A:can I run nlite from a recovery partition?

well with computers id say everything is possible the question is how .

hm well originally HP's policy is use the image we provide and you shouldnt have any problems caused by it .

but ofcourse it takes you back a step or 3 and you have to spend a couple updating again and uninstalling ect .

now if you have done that you can use imagers like norton ghost ect to backup a image files wich you park just about everywhere on HDD on DVD on usbstick . ect .

or you can make raid system . caugh . well not gonna go into that but also possible wich if right raid set makes duplicate of HDD . just in case. , then again you cant take a step back . you have a exact copy at all times . so if something goes bad in the image itself . well you have a exact copy of that 2 . details for this are best looked for on the web.

also starte xperimenting with VMware or with MS virutal machines. a OS in a windows window :)
or even a dedicated server version . wich basicly means you can run all OS's you have . well mostly . details about this are best looked for on the web .

basicly , can you create a backup with all up to date. yes you can .

hope this helps a bit , any questions please ask . will try to answer as soon as i can

I reinstalled windows using a copy of windows XP (SP3) that was worked on with nLite. So its a stripped down copy with many drivers rooted out of the CD.

I've got a PCMCIA slot on this laptop and now I can't install my PCMCIA Wireless card... When I install the drivers (from laptop manufacturer) for the PCMCIA post-installation, it tries to copy across pcmcia.sys file into system32/DRIVERS folder. Then it hangs. The green progress bar stops and EVERYTHING stops responding and nothing happens.

I've tried doing it many times and also copied pcmcia.sys into the drivers folder manually. But it still tries to copy it into the folder and then hangs.

Any ideas how I can fix this?? I can't get wireless at all unless I make it work!!

It's been my experience that, when imaging, you'll have to make several images before you'll get one that you're satisfied with. That way, should the adjusting/tweaking make things unstable, you won't have to go all the way back to the beginning.

For example, you can make an image:
1) Once the Windows installation has finished
2) Once you've added all the Windows Updates
3) Once you've installed all your security software
4) Once you've installed your favorite apps
5) Once you've done all of your tweaking (or even at intervals while you're doing it)

You can retain all of the images if you like, or can just retain the most current one. That way you're 20 minutes away from starting over, rather than hours and hours away from it.

Then, when you're finally happy with the results, make a final image and store it carefully (maybe even copy it to other media "just in case")

A second install would require a second activation - but it should go fairly easily since the hardware won't have changed. I must advise against installing 2 copies of XP with only 1 Product Key - not only does this (IMO) violate the EULA, but it will cause problems with the installation that was activated first (since Microsoft figures the last one is the only legal one).

So on SP2 No w/ Card XP Sound nLite-ed Older I threw a bunch of older components together for use in a shop computer but now I think the build is so No Sound w/ Older Card on nLite-ed XP SP2 stripped that it s causing some problems I used a quot Lite quot version of WinXP home edition for the OS slipped w SP so it wouldn t take up a lot of space to cut down the boot time but I cannot get any sound out of it whatsoever I figured I could get it to work by now since I ve installed so many sound cards but this has me at a loss I think the biggest problem is I am not really exactly sure what sound card I m using seriously It s a creative model ct but I m not sure which series it belongs to It reads quot Audio PCI quot but that does little good I don t think it s a sound blaster or -bit audio adapter so I ve been kinda guessing as to which drivers to download and install I ve even downloaded drivers off of the Gateway site because I guess this card was used in some older GW models or something All of the drivers have installed successfully yet there is no sound at all with the volume cranked not even a buzz I look in Device Manager and it states the device is working properly but it s clearly not All of the PCI slots have tested good on this board CUBX-L so I m not sure if the board or card is to blame I have another old Creative card but that one does the same thing could they both just be junk Also I suppose the jacks in the back of the card are working because I hear the usual zapping sound when headphones are attached This board doesn t even have onboard audio so I can t disable anything in BIOS I m stumped nbsp

Why don't you create a disk image of a computer set up the way you want, put the image on a DVD or something and just copy it on every computer you need to with one click? DriveImage XML can create disk images and is free. I think there are other free alternatives out there like clonezilla.

Hi, i'm looking to buy a new CPU but not sure which one would be best for my computer I currently have an AMD Anthlon(tm) XP 1800+ 1533 MHz. I use my computer for graphic and web design work mainly, so I use adobe packages quite alot, I also like to create music using programs such as cubase.

My mainboard is a SOLTEK 75FRV and OS is Windows XP service pack 3.

I hope that info helps, i'm pretty clueless on what would be the best CPU for my needs!

Thanks anyone!

A:Can someone recommend a CPU

From the MB and CPU specs, I would assume the PC is at least 5 years old?

It is possible to upgrade the CPU a bit, but finding Athlon XP CPUs is getting fairly difficult and expensive. Also, upgrading any other part in such an old system would be a waste of money since you won't be able to reuse it in a future system later on.

Your money would be better used if you saved a bit for a completely new PC with up to date parts. There are plenty of fairly decent PCs on the market these days for under $500 which would perform many times better.

it states ''USB 2.0'' all over it, but it does not come with an additional power adapter...this means whenever you plug in more than 2 devices, the USB block defaults all connections to ''USB 1.0''
so, if your buying a 4 port hub you should be ok, if buying a hub with more connections make sure it comes with an adaptor..

Anyways, most PSU's I have seen have around 8 molex cables. I dont need 8 molex cables, I dont even really need one (maybe certain case fans btw). My Hard Drive will be SATA, my DVD drive is SATA, so I dont want to waste space and drown in cables with extra molex's. I am looking for something at 600W (nice and safe, all hardware should be fine with this), and not to many molex connectors.

Suggestions? (Not buying from Newegg, since I dont live in the US)

Actually i don't have a lot of money so to be in the likes of max 100 $.
I was pretty happy with my CPU(Athlon 5000+) for gaming so i need something in that region. But also i have one more question if i buy "AMD Phenom II X4 940", will i be in need to change Motherboard, RAM, or GPU(Nvidia GeForce 9800GT), in other words is there gonna be a bottleneck effect ?
Thanks in advance.
PS:Sorry if my English is bad, it's not my native one

A:What CPU will u recommend ?

What do you mean your CPU is almost dead? CPU's don't fail fairly often and there's usually no "almost dead" state for them.

Albatron tech support is pathetic at best, but you need to check with them which processors are supported and i you need a BIOS update to run those processors. Normally this is posted clearly on the manufacturer's website but these guys don't seem to work in the same manner.

I have an onboard PCI-E slot, pci slots, 2 SATA board connectors. I am running 1 SATA HD, a USB DVDRW, and have 3 sticks of 1gb DDR2 RAM. Have about 6 USB devices going. Everything else is onboard, including sound and my current video card which will obviously be disabled. CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+

Need something that will fit fine and give me the right connections. Looking to spend less than $60. Thanks.

A:Recommend me a PSU

This one might work:

Don't expect top end for $60 though.

I'm looking to use a VPN on Windows 10 plus my iPhone 5S, anyone know of any good ones?

I was looking at a few but no idea if there any good, anyone know if they are good? | The Best VPN Service Provider with Fast, Secure VPN AccessVyprVPN | VyprVPN - Secure Personal VPN | Golden FrogExpressVPN | ExpressVPN - A Fast and Secure VPN

Do you guys have another recommendation?

PS - Any idea if Avast Premier there SecureLine VPN is any good?

A:VPN Recommend?

What exactly are you using your VPN with? You mean between your iPhone and your Windows 10 computer? If so, no need for a VPN, just use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app in the AppStore.

If you mean a VPN to your work network, then your work should have a VPN server and client already.

A:Which of these PC's would you recommend?

Both processors are dual core so they are about even, but I do like the E6600 better than the E6400 simply because it's faster and has twice the L2 cache. The geForce 7500LE just plain sucks as a 3D accerator while the X1600 is about three times as powerful but still isn't anything to brag about. I'd buy the E6600 and then plan to purchase a new video card and operating system. How much are you planning on spending on this computer because it's very possible to cobble together for you a computer that would meet or beat a combination of the best parts of the 7635 and the 7755 for usually just a little more money.

After using bundled nero package with moderate success I uninstalled all of it when my computer became very sluggish. After doing this my computer came back up to par.
All I want is a straight forward music library that I can download from with out all the documentation and that is compatible to the lightning lll.I've heard of musicmatch, jukebox 8.0, etc.I am new to all of this and just want "one program" that I can use without all of the incompatibility issues that arise. I tried some programs while nero was installed and had these problems.I just want a good music archive program that I can use even if I have to pay for. Any suggestions would be appreciated

A:Recommend please

Nero isn't an archiving program, it's just a burner application. I have no idea what a lightning III is or what it pertains to in this situation. MusicMatch is used for cateloging and playing your MP3 music library and does a pretty good job of it. There are other applications like WinAmp and many..many others. As far as downloading, are you referring to the file sharing services like Kazaa and the now defunct Napster?

I'm using a $10 Wal-Mart "surge protector" for my brand new PC. Since I live in stormy Florida, and since I have power fluctuations and outages every now and then, I want a UPS to protect my computer. I'd rather get one that actually protects, rather than buying one just to say I own one. Then again, I don't think I need a very high end one. I'd rather not buy online, but I will if brick-and-mortar retail stores have terrible products.

If it matters, my system:

Gateway 840GM
Pentium D 830 Dual Core 3.0GHz
1024MB DDR2 RAM PC4200
ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB PCI-e
Creative SB Audigy 2 Value

I have 3 PCI Slots (One of which doesn't work for unknown reasons, 2 are being used - one by my wireless network and the other by my current graphics device, the fx 5200). I also have a AGP 4x/8x Slot... An older version. Newer AGP type devices I don't think will fit due to reversed plugs on the cards than I have in my motherboard. So please, no AGP recommendations.

But, I would like to hear of a nice, cheap video card that's in the range of GF 7 and GF 9. Thank you.

You can also email me your suggestions: [email protected]

As per title, I've been using ASUS motherboards for last 11 years and I must say they are worth every penny. First one was P4P800-Deluxe which lasted from 2001 to 2007 and second one is P5E3 which I'm using since 2007 till now.

I guess its time to jump on bandwagon and upgrade my system. I'm again very much leaning towards getting ASUS again, i.e. P8P67

I was wondering if I should try some other brands like Gigabyte or MSI. I know ASrock is sister company of ASUS so its like getting same motherboard for less money. What will you my fellow PC geeks will advise to go for?

I almost forgot to mention, I'll be getting Core i7 2600k very soon so motherboard has to be 1155 socket.

A:Recommend me new MB

All you can expect to hear is someone's personal experience with a brand, such as you just stated yourself for Asus. "I've owned leventy-leven brand X motherboards and never had a problem".

You can then go immediately to Google and find all kinds of horror stories about that particular brand.

Anecdotes are just that and mean little since the horror stories encompass all brands and you will play hell finding any authoritative evidence--just as it is for hard drives.

I've owned Intel, Dell, Gigabyte, and several Asus motherboards. The only one that ever failed was an Asus.

Signifying nothing. It's just another anecdote.

Look for the features you need and buy from a dealer you trust.

Make some wild-ass guesses and questionable assumptions about supposed build quality and quality control.

Hope it doesn't break.

Hope even harder that you never need to deal with customer support.

Some reliable good RAM, preferably 2 x 4GB ram under $100, which I would use for somewhat intensive gaming.

A:Can anyone recommend RAM?

What's your CPU? This will determine if you need fast RAM or not, but in any case you should be able to get 8GB for well under $100.

I want to install an AV soon to pair with my current Malwaresbytes installation. I don't want to mess with the configuration too much, just want a install-and-forget installation type. My PC have decent performance.

What AV you recommend me to pair with MalwaresBytes that is noob-friendly?

Bonus: I have read that Bitdefender have an auto-pilot. Is Bitdefender 2017 decent and compatible with Malwarebytes?

Thank you

Hey guys, i got a tall order for you guys.

i was wondering if it would be advisable to have 2 AV's, 2 Anti Spyware/Malware, and 2 Fire walls? Recently i had a glitch in the system, some Backdoor virus is trying to get in.
Bitdefender is blocking it left and right so im safe. Am i over reacting? or should i amp up my security? So i considered running 2 of each.

heres what i considered

Main AV: Bitdefender 2nd AV: Either MSE, Avast or Avira

Main Anti spyware/malware: MalwareBytes 2nd Anti: Superantispyware or any other

Main Firewall: windows7 firewall control 2nd wall: pctools firewall or anyother

what do you guys think? i mostly use my puter for school, games, and im constantly downloading new software.

Check out my specs and let me know what you think.

Thanks in advanced.

A:Do You Recommend it?

While running 2 AV's is possible, it's definitely not advisable. There's nothing at all wrong with running a virus scan with more than one anti-virus program. Because it's just a scan - it starts, it scans, and then it's done. Real time monitoring, which is installed with most anti-virus programs is constantly running and scanning files downloaded to your machine. Running two or more real time anti-virus monitors at the same time is very likely to cause a conflict which could result in any number of error messages or failures. The most advisable thing to do would to be to find a good, reliable anti-virus program that you trust, and make sure it's always updated with the latest definitions.

Same for anti-spyware programs, as long as there isn't two real time monitoring engines trying to do the same thing at once, you should be fine.

The same goes for firewalls, however, I just wouldn't recommend running two software based firewalls at the same time because, as with AV programs, they monitor in real time, and two programs trying to do the same thing at once can and usually will cause problems. However, if you have a hardware based firewall, such as one built into a router, there would be no problem running a software and a hardware based firewall.

As for your case, if you believe BitDefender is doing it's job, I would leave it as your anti-virus, and use MalwareBytes and run a periodic scan to check for spyware, and either use the default Windows Firewall, or another 3rd party firewall and all should be fine. But remember, the best security is purely common sense while browsing

Sorry for the long winded reply, too much time on my hands lol. Hope I helped

A:What UPS would you recommend for my PC?

I would look for one that would run your system for about 10 minutes to give you time to close out any files that you have open and gracefully shut down in case of a power outage. Just don't put your laserjet printer on the same line. Your monitor and computer should be all that is necessary.
APC Smart-UPS 1500VA LCD 120V should be more than sufficient. Many are cheaper but you gets what you pay for. Some of the cheaper ones are nothing but a surge supressor.

hi i have at mo 400 watt psu and a 4 gig amd quad core processor and a nvidia gtx 520 graphics card with at the mo 2 gig of ram but am waiting on my new 8 gig ram to come though the post and i also have a dual layer dvd writer and a 1tb hard drive it works fine with the 400 watt psu bt as soon as i download utorrent and start to download the files fail and then my computer runs really sluggish and then sometimes will fail to boot up but this only happens mainly after i have installed utorrent any ideas what could be the matter and how i can solve it thank you very much

A:What PSU would you recommend?

I don't think this is a PSU issue, you don't have many components and the GT 520 is a low power card (Nvidia's website recommends a 300W power supply).

Sounds like you probably downloaded a virus or something... you can try cleaning up your computer or reformatting.
