I can not find any DirectX compatible graphics when I try to play the Sims 2 for the Windows XP. Please Help Me! But I do not have any internet though.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Come on, nobody has a clue? I've seen other people have this problem, so it's a known issue...
Hey, im new to this site but...
Every time I try to move a Sim into a house, the music starts to skip and it freezes and/or crashes. It can't be any of my computer specs because I've been running the Sims 2 since the first one came out and the crashes have been occurring recently. Any help or explanation to this problem would be awesome. I've also just found out that it only happens when I try to move a Sim into a downloaded lot. The only site that I download anything from is www.thesimsresource.com and as far I know it is a safe site. Again, anyone who can help or tell me what the problem may be, please reply.
I would start by looking at this thread, it has a wealth of information:
My game was running fine no hacks or cheats on however I ll be making phone calls to improve my relationships and after I ve completed the call the sim disappears I can run out and meet a walk by say good book disappear from my sims 2, phone Sims bye then call them on the phone then it s gone The missing sims are still showing up in my list of friends though And now I m finding that when he sleeps and it goes into fast speed it runs slow Then when he wakes up it runs ok I m not letting my sim age Sims 2, sims disappear from my phone book but without the cheat He drinks the elixir of life I thought it might be his memory log but it dosen t seem to have an awfull lot in it I thought about dumping the happy logs but I ve been trying to play Sims 2, sims disappear from my phone book it without any cheats on when this most recently happend again the sim only had three friends I haven t seen it played out too far into this condition but so far their friendship levals are dropping and they Sims 2, sims disappear from my phone book are deleting from the town Any ideas why and how to fix it nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/sims-2-sims-disappear-from-my-phone-book.351222/
I've had the sims 2 game and two expansions, sims 2 pets and nightlife, for about half a year. Everything worked fine until recently I started playing and my sims' skin is all white and covered in codes. Some of the clothes and pets have this problem too. This does not change when I make a new family, change their clothes/appearance, or play a family that came with the game such as the Goths. They've all turned white and coded too. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game and the problem was still there. There are no damages to the discs. I've even tried only installing the Sims 2, in the case that it may be the extensions causing the problem, but with no luck. Any suggestions to my dilemma? Thank you.
So basically, I have a brand new Windows 8 laptop that lets me play the Sims 2 without any expansion packs.
Here's the fun part, every time I try to install any expansion pack it won't let me. It tells me to insert disk 4 from the original Sims 2 game, to check for updates. As soon as I do this, it looks like it's actually installing, but it stops and says "The update process did not complete successfully. Installation will now terminate." I have never run into this problem before, and I've all ready looked into changing program compatibility. Currently I have the settings on Windows XP (SP3), because that's the only setting that allows me to play the Sims 2 without crashing. Can anyone help me before I decide to downgrade to Windows 7?
Run the expansion pack in compatibility mode for XP. If that won't work, try running under 7
I have been considering upgrading my OS to Windows XP, however I am not quite sure if The Sims and The Hot Date Expansion Pack will work with it or not. I have heard that it only runs on Windows 98, but I have also heard that any game that was made for 98 works on XP as well. Could someone tell me if upgrading to XP will allow me to play The Sims? Thanks a bunch!
yes the sims does work on windows xp.
hello i am currently trying to play the sims 2 on my laptop windows 7 but when i clikc on a community to play it says system crashed it will now terminate. i clicko n the help link before i start the game but none of the site are working. i got it to work before but now it doesnt work and when the community opens theres white things everywhere. anyone know why this happens? i reallly want to play this game.

just the game crashing when i am making a insane big lot with several floors (normal since on xp also happens to me)
try to get the sims 2 update and install more expansions and stuff pack.
also might help to put on the sims 2 launcher compatibility mode:
windows 2000 and remove aero desktop and themes.
Look I got sold what i thought was sims 2 for mac, but seems not.
and long story short i've gotten it installed using the application crossover but now when i click on the icon to play it just sits there and after about 20 second it disappears off the desktop.
So, if you think you know what is going on please reply asap
please and thank you
just by the way i think my mac is a macbook pro and has leopard. if that helps
Hey I recently just got a laptop which came with windows 8 and I want to install my sims 2 onto it but it won't work.
I installed the Sims 2 base game which said it wasn't compatible but it ended up opening anyway, but none of the expansion or stuff packs will work.
Any ways around this?
Welcome to TSG!
First, I know nothing about windows 8 so these are just ideas.
You can try all the patches and compatibility mode. I had to patch the base game to run in Windows 7.
I don't have the expansions but maybe you can try running in XP or Vista mode.
Howdy people Well I recently purchases Sims - The Complete Collection used from eBay Although scratched quite a bit I entered the serial code and it installed without a hitch After it installed I restarted my computer and I started the game The silver Sims splash screen came up but it went a quot lit quot black and then really black as if my display On 7 Sims 1 Windows The had turned off It is then that i receive the quot The Sims has The Sims 1 On Windows 7 stopped working quot error message and it then attempts to find a resolution which doesn t succeed Ever I tried running the The Sims 1 On Windows 7 game in compatibility mode but to no avail The Sims 1 On Windows 7 I tried it with Windows Windows Windows XP Service Packs and and even tried it with Windows Vista Nothing worked This error message also seems to alternate with another saying quot can t find the Sims data directory quot or something like that but I haven t gotten that error message in a while I don t know why I m having such a hard time getting it to run I mean I was playing Star Wars Dark Forces II just fine on my computer and that game predates The Sims by several years I have been searching for a solution since Saturday the day I received the game but i have not found one Here is my system info Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version OS Version Microsoft Windows Home Premium Service Pack bit Processor AMD C- APU with Radeon tm HD Graphics AMD Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD series Graphics Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB D Total - MB Free - MB Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer Inc K U Antivirus avast Antivirus Updated and Enabled These were all the details I could recall I tried to be as through as possible Thank you for taking the time to read this I appreciate it nbsp

Welcome to TSG
First up, do you mean you downloaded Sims 3? from where, if so? Or is it the add ons omly?
I've got a few from XP like IL-2 sturmovik 1946 which I can't to work"t to work here. but does anybody know
of any flight sims that WILL work on this OS? and I don't want anything free, because it has to much junk that
comes with it.
MS flight should work, as it is recommended for windows 7: Microsoft Flight
Can't recall how to actually purchase the game, however. I got it for free, I believe, with the option to buy side items (planes, maps, etc) but never did. And somehow I ended up losing it. It was a download, not a DVD
I really don t understand the mechanical workings of a computer but I have found out from a website called quot Can You Run It quot that my current graphics card is not suitable for The Sims Probably why it s running like a dog and almost unplayable Currently have GeForce FX LE probably not to original bought with the Dell Dimension as I think my husband stripped this out of his old machine to upgrade my generic one in the hope of getting The Sims to work better I would run 3 upgrade won't 7 to like would Sims to Windows and also like to upgrade to Windows Sims 3 won't run and would like to upgrade to Windows 7 and this card is not listed as compatible Also the memory requirements for The Sims under Vista are GB can t find details of The Sims under WIndows so as I also only have GB RAM at the moment and am thinking about upgrading that too I don t really have more than to do any necessary upgrades but would like to get another couple of years out of my old DD I could buy x GB RAM and replace all the existing or x GB RAM and replace GB of the existing giving me GB I have not got a clue about graphics card so any advice would be good Not looking for anything amazing - would just like The Sims to run well nbsp
1.5gb of Ram when using vista isn't enough to run the game because Vista uses alot more memory just to run the operating system, i would use atleast 2gb even if you upgrade to windows 7 becasue it will just run alot smoother in general. Your old graphips chip should handle sims fine if it is capatiple with the game.

Hi there, welcome, have you try the compatibility mode?
Try right click on the application go to properties, and go to compatibility tab.
HI, I'm a New Newbie- have very little computer savvy...just a plug and play kind of girl. Did a new install of Windows 7- ran Vista before- downloaded Sims 2 and most expansion and stuff packs. All ran fine prior to installing Windows 7. Now I get random crashing- usually in the create a sim- but not always. I have tried running it in Vista- updating game and drivers, turning off UAC- running it as administrator- Sometimes I get the blue screen of death other times it crashes to the desktop. Any ideas? again I am very new at this so be as simple and concise as possible..And thanks in advance
You might try running the update patches:
TheSims2.com - Updates
I recently installed the Sims 2 on my computer (Windows 98). It keeps coming up with this message:
"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the lastest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."
An installation for DirectX 9.0 came on the disc, which I installed but hasn't helped. Do I need to install a driver? If so, which one and where from? What else could I do? Thanks in advance. (Sorry if someone else has posted about this).

I’ve installed the (very) old Sims 2 pc game but it doesn’t start. I have read a lot of possible solutions but nothing worked. Normally I played it on an old pc witch doesn’t match the system requirement but i works. Half a year ago I bought a new laptop and installed it. It worked for an hour or so and then i quit. After that it never worked again. At the moment i start is it gives the start screen. If you press play it should start but after a minute or so the laptop freezes completely. Here are my system specs:
2.1 ghz Intel i3 processor
50 GB free hard disk
NVidia GeForce gt MX 520 graphic cart (newest driver(v. 296.1))
Windows 7 home edition.
I’ve already reinstalled it, deleted the group. Cache and used different compabilities.
If there’s anything more you want to now please post it.
I just brought sims 2

AppName: sims2.exe AppVer: 184.108.40.2062 ModName: ~df394b.tmp
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0008e86b
it's a windows error , but what can i do about it?

ive tried everything and nothing seems to work. it still feezes.
any advice or hints would be birlliant ...please help
I am running windows XP Professional and have specs way over the recommended to run the Sims. The game installs fine, but when I go to play it, nothing happens. there is a sims.exe process running in the task manager but nothing appears on the screen, and i cant end the process. ive tried the compatability wizard thingy but that doesnt seem to work either. does anyone know of a reason this is not working? is there some kind of patch or compatibility setting i need? thanks.

Recently my computer Arcee has been having some problems and she just shut down and has pretty much refused to come back. Whenever I boot Arcee up I am unable to get to my login screen or anything. I've had Arcee since 2004 and is a Windows XP PC. She ran Sims 2 like a charm. So I recently got this new computer off of craiglist. IT IS BEING EVIL! It's a Compaq laptop with Windows 7, I cannot install Seasons or even get into the sims. I think my head is going to explode. I miss my sims....what should I do?

What you need to remember is that The Sims 2 was released BEFORE Vista was out, so it's logical to assume that the packaging will not mention it. Most games that work on XP will work on Vista, but it help to confirm compatibility first.
If you go to The Sims 2 Website, you should be able to download a patch that will fix compatbility issues within Vista. I have Sims 2 myself, and it works great on even Vista x64.
Get the Sims 2 updates here:TheSims2.com - Updates
The original The Sims is fairly old, so you may not get a patch for it to work on Vista. But try here anyway: The Sims? - Official Site - Find your Sims community
Hope this helps.

I recently purchased the sims 2 double deluxe for my dell inspiron 1525 laptop which has windows vista home basic on it and the game doesnt seem to be working. It freezes whenever I try to create a new family, play a family or go into town. The computer says the program isnt responding. So far I have emailed EA twice and they said to update my drivers, which I did. I have run it in combatability mode and as an administrator. There are no background programs up while I run the game either. Any ideas?
Every time I play The Sims, my computer freezes and won't shut down. I've been through the troubleshooters, found out the problem is in the bootlog.txt. Now what do I do? Bear in mind I'm not very computer literate and need simple explanations!

You have to have an Xbox live account and add them from there. You can find users wanting to be added by searching the forum Sims FreePlay (add me) section.

If i go to "my computer" and click it the window will say "not responding" and the program "my computer" freezes and i either have to wait for the program to end or restart my computer. I have all the requirements for sims 2 to install so why does it never work?
i 147 GB of free space and it said that it was compatible with vista. is it a problem with my computer itself?
Is the Disk damaged, as in scratched or dusty in any way? Also refer to http://forums.techguy.org/games/287910-common-sims-2-problems.html
Hallo allemaal even een vraagje hier. Alvast bedankt!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Hoe-speel-je-sims-2-af-op-Windows-10-error-code-8016/td-p/5700580

Did you copy/ paste all of the dump info in? The date on the dump from crash #2 = November 2008, yet I see SP2 installed. These 2 do not match.
Here is a brief summary and info on the crashes -
bugcheck - 0x24 = NTFS file system problem
OS = Vista SP2
bugcheck = 0x10e (0x2, 0x1, 0x0, 0x0) = the video memory manager was unable
to recover from a problem it encountered
OS = SP2
This will become a problem for you in the near future - only 3.1% free space remaining on your OS drive -
Free Space: 4.5 GB
Total Space: 143.1 GB
The first thing to do is to perform a Vista system restore - choose a restore point prior to the failed Sims install -
START | rstrui
Then run chkdsk /r - then select option to reboot to allow volume to dismount. chkdsk will run on next boot-up
Follow these 2 procedures -
1. Run the Vista Cleaning Manager Utility - from an elevated cmd/DOS prompt -
type cleanmgr tuneup - Check the following boxes:
- Temp Setup Files
- Downloaded Program Files
- Temp Internet Files
- Recycle Bin
- System error memory dump files (NOT the next line - minidump files)
- Temp Files
- Temp Windows Installation Files
2. Defrag the hard drive - use a product like Auslogics
Let me know how you make out.

Ok, so I just got The Sims (a little behind I know.) However, I have Windows XP, so apparently that does not work. Whenever I try to install The Sims, I get this message:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Mircrosoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
I went to TheSims website and found that The Sims is only compatible with Windows 95 or 98. So, I researched how to remedy this problem. I was directed to HotFix 329623. However, when I tried downloading that...it said that it was only compatible with Windows Service Pack 1, and not SP 2 which I have unfortunately downloaded.
Any help with making The Sims compatible to my computer or vice versa?
well I don't know if you did mean the sims , or if you meant the sims 2.
But either one should work on XP, The Sims 2 does for sure, and I ran the sims 1 on my Windows ME , so ..
to get rid of service pack 2, go to start - settings - control panel - add/remove programs, then click on service pack 2
hope that helps a bit
Hello every I am having problems with the sims I have yesterday installed the sims with all expansion packs on to it I have a Windows pc it with 2 windows the my (main expansion Having 18 all on pc 7 packa) + problems sims is a Dell Inspiron it has i core processer I have started playing the sims and I have noticed that even though it works I can not do some things such as when I went into boolProp and tried to have my Sim abducted by aliens it did not work and also tried to get my sim to order a service that did not work also I have searched on google Having problems with the sims 2 (main + all 18 expansion packa) on my windows 7 pc already and there is some reported compatibility problems with the sims I tried to run it in windows XP compatibility mode like suggested but that did not work so I got windows to try and find a answer to the problem but it said the sims launcher is out of date has any body got a straightforward answer to how I can get the sims working perfect on my laptop Thanks Jake nbsp
Please refrain from posting in other peoples thread. If you don't get a response after 24 hours of the initial post, just post in this one and your thread will go to the top of the list.
What do you meant by going to boolProp and are you using this to get your Sim to order something?
Whenever I would attempt to create a sim on the Sims 2, the game would freeze and not load the sim that I had created, my labtop runs on windows vista, I run the game through administrator, and I had configured the game to run on windows xp service pack 2, how can I fix this problem so I can make sims?
Try looking through some of this sticky.
I have the Sims Double Deluxe (old, i know.) It was working fine for a few weeks but now it's not.
I put in the CD and start it, and it loads.. then suddenly stops, and returns me back to my windows desktop. I troubleshooted.
Closed down background programs, my drivers are updated.. etc. its all good
however it asks me to: adjust the Color palette option to 256 colors and the Desktop area to 640 by 480 pixels. If your driver lets you alter the viewport size separately, sometimes referred to as "virtual desktop", make sure it is also set to 640x480 or you may encounter problems.
I can't do that for some reason. I think my monitor is different.
But i've used the Sims successfully before, now all of a sudden it wont. Help!

The Sims 3 doesn't pass windows xp logo testing. So I have win xp sp 2 and want to install sims 3 (I know it's 5 years late but whatever). But when I instapp it a message says "the software you're installing has not passed windows logo testing, to verify its compability on windows xp"If I click continue, the software finish installing, but it won't open the app. I tried disabling on my computer > properties > hardware and reinstalling but the message still pops out. Any help?
It would help your cause if you had SP3 installed. In any case have you tried installing it using compatibility mode for XP?Edit: also check the system requirements to ensure your hardware is up to scratch. message edited by btk1w1http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/the-sims-3-doesnt-pass-windows-xp-logo-testing/203523.html

I decided to try Sims because it s free to Origin access members Unfortunately my computer is one of the many out there 4: Sims Crashing 3 Sims vs that despite having a powerful enough computer cannot run Sims without it crashing I even got past the Sims creation screen and was working on my house when it crashed Having done enough research on the internet about how to deal with Sims crashing I came Sims 3 vs Sims 4: Crashing to the conclusion that there is no easy answer as to how to keep your computer from crashing while playing Sims Instead I m considering trying Sims Before I do considering how notorious Sims has become for not working on certain computers or with newer hardware how does Sims compare Obviously it s newer and should work with newer hardware However I ve played older games on my computer before and they haven t had nearly the same problems that Sims had As such does anyone know if Sims has any of it s own querks like glitching crashing game freezing and other anomalies that are impossible to solve nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/sims-3-vs-sims-4-crashing.1165878/
Okay so I ve recently built a new computer and have been trying for the past days to successfully install 2 Sims Sims Flashing and play the sims Installation is fine it goes through everything perfectly loading up the game is nice and fast too But when I get into a lot in the game to actually start playing the screen starts going berserk It all seems to emulate from the sims themselves they ll flash in and out and huge beams of colour shoot out from them it is rather disturbing to watch They go Sims 2 Sims Flashing about their normal activities but these huge things follow them everywhere even if you scroll out the beams are just endless http imageshare web id images c vth m euxqwi dxy jpg http imageshare web id images jpea nn kwmfpgleis d jpg It was hard to get a screenshot of the Sims 2 Sims Flashing problem because it jitters around so much It all flickers off and on Okay so to fix the problem so far I ve removed my downloads folder to make sure it wasn t anything to do with the cc I ve installed They didn t fix the problem which I didn t think it would anyway I was just trying to go through everything I tried some other things too but nothing worked I eventually uninstalled ALL the games and expansions and then reinstalled just the base game after I installed that a message popped up and said Sims has known compatibility issues with Windows so I installed the patch from the Sims website and loaded it up and it worked I didn t get any weird flashing or streams coming from the sims So then I installed Sims University and it s patch from the Sims website loaded it up and it was fine no streams or flashing So I thought I was in the clear the problem was gone but after I installed Sims Nightlife and it s patch the flashing came back I uninstalled Nightlife and the flashing went away again So I downloaded a torrent for Sims Nightlife thinking it may be a corrupted file on the disc and installed it from a torrent then installed the patch again and loaded it up The flashing returned So I uninstalled NL again and thought maybe it just doesn t like NL so I decided to try and install Sims Open for Business and its patch Loaded it up and the flashing returned So the base game and University worked fine together without any problem but the second I add an addition expansion back the whole thing loses it So after that I decided to look into the compatibility issues with Windows and try and find a solution I ended up running the program as an administrator and on Windows XP Service Pack So I had the base game University and Open for Business installed at this stage and when I ran it on Windows xp there was a few small glitches but it righted itself out So then I tried to install Nightlife again and run that with Windows xp as well But as soon as I loaded it up it just got worse So that s about where I am now I can t find any forums that have the same problem hence why I m posting one Specs Windos -bit OS AMD Phenom II GHz Quad Core GB Ram TB Hard Drive ATI Radeon GB XXX Edition ASUS DRW- B LT Asus M A TD-M USB nbsp

I installed the windows version of The Sims 2 which i used to play on pc on my macbook using the boot camp (letting me run two operating systems)
I managed to install it and my macbook can handle the graphics and such, whilst that was the complicated part now when i play it if i try to delete something, for example a wall using the standard "ctrl" it automatically becomes the mac's right click and the camera icon comes up instead.
Is there any way to change the ctrl key to a different key or to turn off the macbook's ctrl= right click function? i have searched around but i cannot find anyone else experiencing the same problem.
I'm running the latest Mac Operating system OSX and on the windows boot thing Windows XP Professional.
First of all, I love your name.
secondly did you try checking the sticky thread titled "common sims problems" at the top of the forum? I haven't read it through b/c I don't play the Sims but your problem MAY be in there. If so check to see if the game lets you change the controls in the menus. If not, ask a mod to move this to the Mac OS forum since it sounds like you want to modify the OS not the game.
So I installed The Sims Complete Collection but I decided that I really wouldn t use it as much as I thought so I decided to uninstall it After doing so little error messages pop up every - seconds on my computer one C:\WINDOWS\wmrutrim.dll" after loading Complete Collection Sims "Error uninstall The after another and if I leave my computer to go to the bathroom or something there will be a whole slew of them one on top of another that I have to exit They say quot Error loading C WINDOWS wmrutrim dll quot and under that quot Access is denied quot To the left of the words is s red circle with a white x in the center and on my taskbar the window is labeled quot RUNDLL quot I did some research and found that some file was probably deleted when I uninstalled the game but I looked on a bunch of quot dll quot file download sites and couldn t find my error Some sites also said to reinstall the program that caused the problem but the Sims Complete Collection is disks and takes hours to install I also don t want it on my computer I also tried restoring my computer with the system restore disk that came with it but it didn t restore even though I have done it before and followed the procedure outlined on the disk exactly The message comes up so often that I cannot do anything else without being constantly interrupted i e "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\wmrutrim.dll" after uninstall The Sims Complete Collection while typing this at least have popped up already and I have to constantly exit them and come back to this Please help I tried to use the Sims help forum but something went wrong and I cannot log in Thanks nbsp

I have looked everywhere and no one seemed to have this problem. I created a new family and moved them into a house, when I went to go to use the phone to call a taxi my adult sims only have the silence phone option, but when my sims child uses the phone he has all the options. What can I do to fix this, I would really like to be able to call the Adoption Agency.
I downloaded a bunch of sims 2 things..I have exp pack university and nightlife. I installed pets and open for business and they wouldnt show up. I enabled custom content as well and nothing. please help me I realllyyyy wanted sims 2 seasons so i downloaded it then i bought game cds and a dvd burner. after i put the files on the cd i installed the game off the cd on my computer. then as soon as i played the game it would ask for the cd so i looked in the game file and sure enough there was a crack so i used the crack but after the little mini movie at the beginning of each sims game it went blank and my computer made a beep. a tiny message box came up with that red sign but no message. so what am i to do i looked all over the internet and nothing that would help me came up
PLEASSE HELP ME i will be eternally grateful
Am I reading this right. You downloaded the expansion off the Internet. If you didn't pay for it, that is stealing and no one here will help you with illegal copies of games.
BTW to buy the expansion at the store is far cheaper then buying a burner + CD's
I recently installed Sims 2. Iv'e installed it ok but when I try to start the game a message pops saying: CD Dvd emulation software running. Disable it. I've done Alt, Ctrl & Delete but there's nothing there. anyone know how to fix this problem. Wary.
This happens alot when you have CloneCD installed. You have to either uninstall clonecd or get the patch for it. OR, if you don't have CloneCD installed, check to make sure none of your other CD/DVD buring software is running.
Whenever i try to download the sims 2 on my computer this message always come up : 'E:/Support\European Help Files\es\CD_DVD_(errores).htm',
I don't even know what that means or what that is! somebody help please!
When i try to download the sims 2 this message comes up:
'e:\Support\European Help Files\es\webhelp.jar'
i don't know how to get past it.
I'm having problems with one of my sims expansions. I can play all the way to hotdate then when i install unleashed it works all the way till i see the neighborhood and instantly clicks back to desktop and shuts off. i get no error message it just clicks back to desktop.
I downloaded some clothes for my sims off another site. Not the official site. It saved as a zip and i unzipped it. It wasn't the same as the official one (where all you do is double click and it installs it directly in your game) it was an unknown type of file. So i thought i should open it with the same icon the other sims dl from the official web site. I later read from another site that you have to save it in a specific folder. But i cant change the open with option, even if i download a different file. How do i change it back to normal?

I bought The Sims from a retail store (Staples) about four years ago.
I downloaded a few lots to my download manager. Then I installed them to my game. I cannot locate them in my game. The other sims you had a houses and lot bin but I do not have one with the sims3.
It's in Edit Town - there should be lots that came with the game there, too, and the ones you downloaded will be among them.

have you gone into device manager to check whether there are any yellow exclamation marks indicating problems?
Did you try uninstalling and then reinstalling them?
Edit...your profile says you are running xp home but you have posted this problem in the vista support-is the game actually being played on a vista system?
If so here is a link to sims 2 vista
Is there any way to load the Sims2 to run without the CD? Or can you burn a copy? My son and I battle over it.
I'm pretty sure the CD only has to be in the drive when you first start the game, but double check the license restrictions. My guess is that EA wants you to buy one game for each of your two computers.
ok i need a step by step list on how to download items for the sims 2 please!!!!
Have you tried the Sims 2 Maid.. It is a little download tool that allows you to drag and drop sims downloads with ease.
Here are the instructions on how to step by step (assuming you dont use the Sims2 Maid)
1. Click on download content and select SAVE file
2. Pick where to save the download content. You want to save it in your Sims2 Downloads folder. It should be somewhere like /USERNAME/Documents/ea games/sims2/downloads. (you may have to create this folder if you have never downloaded anything from the store before)
3. You will get 1 o f 3 file types. One being a package file that you have to do nothing with. Another being a Zip file which you have to unzip and take the package file out of it and put in your downloads folder. And the last is a SIMS2Pack file, which you have to click on to install the content to game. Sometimes the Zip file may contain either a package file or a SIMS2PACK file.
4. Now start game and your stuff will be there. Make sure you have custom content enabled if you are using an expansion. All your downloads will be in the appropriate sections, like if you download a house, it will be in your houses bin, if you downloaded an object, it will be in the appropriate object bin.
Hope this helps
I am a sims FREAK and with the new one coming out some I went to a site to see if I could run it and these are the results I got...CPU CPUMinimum: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (2.0 GHz Dual Core required if using integrated graphics)You Have: AMD E-450 APU with Radeon(tm) HD GraphicsThis is the only thing that is preventing me from being able to run the game properly. Any suggestions on what I need to do before I waste money ordering a game that won't work like it should
Some say that AMD can be overclocked. If so, that might help.http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1678178/overclocking-amd-450-laptop.htmlQuote... Depending upon how much thermal headroom you do have, you might be able to squeeze a few hundred MHz out of the CPU - the GPU is a major heat producer and I'm not sure I would look to clock it much (if any) ...http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,145783.0.html
I just got Sims 2, and I'm getting the same "DirectX" message that many others are getting. I've read through the other threads, and it seems people just need to find out their Chip Type and download that type. However, mine just says n/a under chip type. Does anyone know what I can do to find out my chip type?
Thanks a ton! I'm not great with computers, so I hope someone can help me.
Can someone please help me?
What does the message say? This might give us more information

I'm having trouble playing The Sims (Electronic Arts). In some neighborhoods, I'd be able to play a house. Then when I return to the neighborhood screen to play a different house in that same neighborhood, the game shuts down and returns to the Windows environment. What does this mean? Low memory? Resources?
I am having a problem when I am in build mode and I am placing furniture. I place an object where I want it and when I click to place it it turns it another direction how can I fix this?? It is driving me NUTS.

Welcome to TechSpot
Have a look at DirectX 9.0c compatible trouble, please help thread first.
Usually, if the hardware isn't too ancient, it's just a matter of having the latest drivers.
I have all of the sims stuff that is on the market on my computer, and for some unknown reason when I start the program it starts and goes to the main screen but when I try to do anything it crashes. I think it's a virus due to the fact I have a wonderful habbit of picking up every single on out there, my virus programs aren't detecting anything and it is only affecting the sims does any one know of any thing I can download that can find it?
I don't think it's a virus, because I've had the same problems before. Maybe you could check out this and see if anything helps, or look around the EA Tech Support area and try their suggestions. Without knowing your operating system, what expansion packs you have, and whether you have user-made downloads, it's hard to pin-point exactly what could be causing the crash, as it could be a number of things. If you do have user-made downloads, I would suggest you back them up on cd or somewhere on your harddrive, just in case you need to reinstall the game.
i play the sims 2 and it started to lag alot like every 10 seconds it will freeze up and then start after 5 seconds. then after a while it will crash and my comp will restart , it is worse in some areas . i dont htink it is my comp cause it is fine this only happens when i play all games. i have custum content but i dont htink that is a problem becaseu i tryed deleting it all and it still didnt work and i also tryed useing it on another acount and it still dosent work. one of my neighborhoods got deleted when it crashed and now there is another one in its place called pets but it dosent load. and sometimes when i start up the game it will freeze. please help me i am so bad at comp stuff!!!
First, welcome to TSG!
The problems you're describing sound like an overheating problem to me. Try turning off the computer, and taking off the side of the case. Clean out all the dust you can with compressed air, and carefully turn the computer on. Make sure that all the fans inside are working properly. It is safe to run the computer with the side of the case off, as long as you don't touch anything inside while it's on.
Now, try playing the Sims again. If it seems to be a little better, let us know, and if it's just as bad as before, let us know as well.
I have a Windows XP and, I just got the sims 3 yesterday. I took a test to see if I could play it, and it says I can't because it requires 1 GB RAM, and my computer has 894.4 MB RAM. I'm not sure what to do to be able to play my game. Please help.
The only thing to do is buy more RAM. How old is your PC? I ask because 1GB has been fairly standard for a few years.
