Recommend CPU Monitoring App.

Q: Recommend CPU Monitoring App.

I'm interested in using an app to monitor the temperature of the CPU while in use (i.e. not by checking the Bios). Any recommendations?

Preferred Solution: Recommend CPU Monitoring App.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Is your boot up slow? Don't pay attention to these unless you notice that your computer isn't performing well or is crashing etc.

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to see if my work lap top was being monitored? I use it for personal use after hours and surf sometimes while at work. Nothing scandalous, but curios if there was a way to check and also clean if possible. Any reccomendations are much appreciated. Is there cleaning software available?
I am not in the office, and do not have to go through a network server or through any company-type network. Internet explorer is browser.
Thanks

Is there any program out that (preferably free) that can monitor wich users log on and for how long. I am the admin of the computer but I don't need to monitor what sites they go to and key strokes just when they log in and when they log off and preferable a thing that can generate a report to tell me how long each one is on.

BTW I am doing this because my brother get's so much more computer time then me so I want to prove to my mom when he goes on and how long so that she can change the hours so it is equal.

Since that goes directly into a switch and to the Internet in the router, it'll be pretty difficult with a cheap SOHO router. You could install software on his machine to do the trick, or buy a router with parental controls and filters.

I am trying to regulate downloading as much as possible since currently we are in iraq and the choice of internet is either slow or none. so to make users happy we limit downloading during peak hours, but of course i can't really do much about it unless i go to everyone's computer myself and check for downloading programs. any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I really doubt that such a critter exists, but after reading the specs on my DVD burner, I got to wondering. It says that the operating environment is 5C to 45C temperature and 15% to 80% relative humidity. Since the video card is operating at 48C and one of my harddrives is at 40C, it not hard to imagine that the optical drives frequently exceed these limits. Therfore, my question is, is there any such thing as a monitoring device or monitoring program for optical devices?

A:CD/DVD Monitoring

Howdy seekermeister,
Interesting question. I've never seen it before. I did some research and can find only sketchy stuff at best. No measuring software at all. But it seems to me you have no problem. Even at 50C, 122F, it seems the drive's operating temperature is only related to it's internal temp while burning in direct relationship to the media capabilities/physical content make up. If that wasn't the case everyone living in Las Vegas would have drip dry coasters.

In searching I found drives rated at a max of only 40C. Well that would mean half the machines out there would have failed optical drives.

Hi all. Do any of you know any free, reliable and discreet software that would allow me to see exactly what is being done on my PC during the day when i'm at work? I tried Computer Watchdog and it seriously screwed my PC up so that's a no-no. Have any of you tried these sort of programs and know any that are ok?

A:Pc Monitoring

I'm against the use of monitoring software on general principle. It's not that it's bad, it's just that there are other steps that can be taken to prevent the abuse.

And, IMO, these other steps are much more effective and long lasting.

First is that you forbid use of the system, you forbid the use of certain parts of the system, or you forbid the visiting of certain types of websites.

Next, you establish consequences for disobedience.

Then you sit back and wait. Eventually you'll determine if disobedience is occurring - then you enact the consequences. There's a wealth of information stored on the hard drive.

Consequences can be multi-pronged - both preventing access to the system and/or it's abilities and punitive measures designed to reinforce the consequences of disobedience.

Doing this fairly and consistently will give you more piece of mind than any monitoring software that you can use.

I was talking to some folks who use Windows and various Linux flavors and on the subject of memory, they tell me they do not trust the built in Ram monitoring tools to report Ram usage as well as Linux does.

What do you guys think about this?

Is there anything to it.. if so, are there better free 3rd party Ram monitoring tools for Windows?

A:Better RAM monitoring for Windows?

I personally have never worried about Ram usage in windows, ok, maybe a little to some degree.
But not to the depths that I think you are asking. Honestly, I don't see the point.

Win 7 handles memory much better than XP or even Vista did.

Again, I have never found a reason for them for any real reason.
Unless you have an app that has a memory leak and you are testing for that?

EDIT -- I 2nd the post below this. It was the point I think I was trying to make.

I'm attempting to monitor my network traffic, and having trouble getting my pc to read all of the incoming/outgoing packets.

My current setup is

Modem -> Router1 -> Hub -> Router2

All of the other computers on the network are connected to router2, my admin computer is connected to the hub. But its only able to see the traffic that is happening on the admin computer and not the others.

I tried making the admin computer into a dmz, but that caused the other computers on the network to have connection issues and problems with different internet needed programs.

What would be the correct method to get this setup? I've read about port mirroring switches, but I've not been able to find any cheap switches which do this.

A:CPUID Monitoring

Zero can mean that a certain fan has stopped.
it can also mean, that the sensor the information is pulled from is either defective or more likely on your motherboard not existent.(Imagine how many differen motherboards layouts have to be covered)
The only really important fans are the ones for CPU and GFX so if your fans all spin just ignore that reading

I presume I'd have to have remote desktop links and they're all set up.

A:PC Monitoring Software

Im no expert at networking, but I have heard about software named wireshark mentioned a lot for network monitoring which captures packets and allows you to examine their contents. Hopefully someone can provide more information on this software for you.

If you are looking to simply block certain types of sites then you may wish to try OpenDNS, which is free for business and personal use. You can customize what you want to block (which includes proxy sites to help prevent people using workarounds) You can also add individual sites in a filter which will either allow or block access to that specific site. I used this software myself for my home network and it did a great job of blocking the kids from unsavory sites!

Wireshark >> http://www.wireshark.org/
OpenDNS >> http://www.opendns.com/

Hope this helps.

Hey all-

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good network monitoring tools (under $50) that would allow me to see computers on my network and how much bandwidth each is using. We have a T1 line and periodically we have a slow down on the network normally due to somebody downloading a large file. It would be nice to have a tool to be able to show who might the culprits might be when such instances occur. I would need a tool that would be able to see all computers remotely so I do not have to install the program on each system.

Thanks for the help!

A:Network Monitoring

Good luck. Whatever tool you use will have to be watching at a "choke point" where all the Internet traffic goes by. Addressed traffic through a switch will only appear on the two port that are directing it from the source to the destination.

Perhaps you could tell us what type of network equipment you currently have. Your T1 firewall or gateway appliance may have monitoring capabilities.

Yes there is, SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

It monitors CPU, Motherboard and ambient case temps, hard drive SMART, and allows automatic fan rpm adjustment if not already a feature. Works out of the box when you install it, not like Motherboard Monitor which is a bear to configure.

Umm good luck - It would have to scan just about the entire hard drive to find out ALL the changes the program/website/etc made to your pc. Thats a full scan for each and every page/picture/script that a web page has. The program(program alone) part maybe out there somewhere. Good luck

Hi there
Could somebody explain in simple terms how to monitor and perhaps reconfigure our wireless network.
We have recently set up a satellite system with a 250kbs download speed
the problem is I need to know how to monitor the usage and who is hogging the system.
System set up, Satellite terminal with internet access. this is dchp provider
The terminal has 4 lan ports and attached to one port is an netgear mimo 54 g wireless access point. The system could have on line approx 14 hosts. so I need to monitor the bandwidth . I am confused between hubs and switches monitoring software etc. I have used computers but I am not a network manager. Due to the bandwith we need to use the system as efficently as possible. It should be used for social Internet browsing /messenger talk etc.

Does anyone know of any software that monitors signal strength in warehouse distribution applications? It must be compatible with a 2.4 GIG frequency system and run either VT100 or VT220 emulation.

I am basically trying to prove to the powers that be, that 8 access points in a 1.3 million square foot warehouse are not enough.

I had a app at another one of our DC's that would monitor this. But it was on a 900 meg frequency system. Running a diferent emulation, so its not compatible now.

hi guys,

i'm trying ,with no luck ,to find a tool for employe monitoring with a twist:
to record users desktop and save it as a movie(compression is a must, save as flash is best)
start recording on event(if users goes on some site ) and stop it when that event ends(users stop browser)
if it could save the recorded movie on different machine, where the recorded users wouldn't have access

basically smthing like adobe captivate with the above specs

if anybody knows smthing even remotely like this ,i would appreciate and answer

That would be the holy grail. There is VNC recorders but you would need to be logged into their system with a VNC client. And I am pretty sure they are going to notice that.

You are better off just monitoring the network traffic with something like SNORT.

Hey y'all Looking to replace Commodo as it been giving me monitoring for software Looking some headaches I was speaking Callendar a bit who provided some suggestions as well But I wonder what everyone else thinks based on the following criteria Software File Protection -Alerts if any unauthorised file is being executed aside from media files -Alerts if any unauthorised program is making file or registry changes -Alerts if any program is attempting to access a network -Integrated network real-time monitoring -Can block exempt executed files Looking for monitoring software programs -Permanent file deletion -File Monitoring ability to have certain files watched -Integrated installation monitor automatically detects install files and captures them -Integrated installation removal tool -Integrated installation option to make portable Hardware Protection -Hardware Service Change Detection -Hardware Integrity Monitoring detects faults errors -Integrated Latency Monitoring Logging -Latency Troubleshooting amp Alerting if it goes above the average threshold -Integrated I O real-time monitoring logging -I O Monitoring alerts if there is a large amount of writes or reads occurring Operating Protection -EventLog Alternative -EventLog Monitor reports issues as they happen and works to correct them -EventLog Filtering ability to remove logging of certain events -BootTime Monitor Logger -BootTime Troubleshooting amp Alerting if load times exceed average Essentially this one program is an all-in-one proactive alerting system then for cleanup there is CCleaner which is constantly improving Process Hacker for seeing what's going on And I know it is a lot to ask for so if you know more than one application that can do this and be nice on resources it'd be appreciated Thanks

A:Looking for monitoring software

I can't answer all your questions but here's what i know about. Anything that I personally use is marked with an asterisk.

Software/File Protection

-Alerts if any unauthorised file is being executed (aside from media files)

SecureAPlus Application Whitelisting * - need the No AV version. Checks any unsigned executable that attempts to run with the option to block. Plus a few more options. Also see: http://www.sevenforums.com/system-se...ml#post2932674

Note: I'm not using the current version.

VoodooShield *

Note: Pro version is cheap and much better than the free version. It does require a user to train the program and aslo reset the whitelist and retrain if a mistake is made in allowing something that should have been blocked.

Spy The Spy*

allows the user to specify directories to be monitored for the creation/ modification of executables.

-Alerts if any unauthorised program is making file or registry changes

MJRegWatcher* - real time registry protection.

-Alerts if any program is attempting to access a network

Well I use Threatfire for that. It's no longer available and there's no development or support but I can provide a download link if you want it.

-Integrated network real-time monitoring

I use Comodo CIS for that but also if you are using Windows Firewall take a look at:

Glasswire - Note: Only works with Windows Firewall

-Can block/exempt executed files/programs

See VoodooShield and SecureAplus (mentioned earlier)

Actually blocking specific files is tricky if they don't already exist on your machine and are legitimate. Maybe take a look at This Post.

Maybe take a look at: Smart Windows App Blocker

-Permanent file deletion

BlankAndSecure * - for folders or individual files.

SDelete* - to wipe free space and MFT free space (NTFS Drives only). I can help with command line usage.

-File Monitoring; ability to have certain files watched

Personally I only check for modified executables using Spy The Spy (mentioned earlier) and a few other files (like HOSTS file) using Threatfire.

-Integrated installation monitor automatically detects install files and captures them
-Integrated installation removal tool
-Integrated installation option to make portable

For that I was using Comodo Programs Manager as it does all of the above but it's no longer supported and it's stopped working on my machine. You could test it and see if it works for you. I've tried lots of replacements but none of them have been much good.

Hardware Protection:

-Hardware/Service Change Detection
-Hardware Integrity Monitoring, detects faults/errors
-Integrated Latency Monitoring/Logging
-Latency Troubleshooting&Alerting if it goes above the average threshold

No idea. Sorry.

-Integrated I/O real-time monitoring/logging
-I/O Monitoring alerts if there is a large amount of writes or reads occurring

Nothing that I've used has been any good.

Operating Protection

-EventLog Alternative

Windows Inspection Tool Set * - also great for monitoring on an as an when needed basis. Not for constant real-time monitoring as it would use too many resources.

-EventLog Monitor, reports issues as they happen and works to correct them
-EventLog Filtering, ability to remove logging of certain events

Don't know!

-BootTime Monitor/Logger

Currently i use Process Monitor if and when I get a slow boot issue. See:

How To Enable System Boot Time Logging using Process Monitor Tool*

-BootTime Troubleshooting&Alerting if load times exceed average

No Idea!

Hi all,

I recently built a computer for my son and was wondering if there was an easy way to monitor files created/downloaded to his computer without doing a physical installation of software on his computer.

Ideally, I would like to just be able to remotely connect to the computer via our home network , but currently the only way I know to do this is to share his whole computer on the network.

I would also prefer to avoid the use of a keylogger or any other software that could possibly be used in a malicious way if it were compromised.

Firstly, the internet is transparent. Anyone with access to the wire sees everything you do with the exception of encrypted content (your online banking is safe).

Secondly, if it is your work computer then your work admins can do anything in there with their administrative rights. And there is nothing you can do about that either.

You just have to accept that it is the company computer and the company internet connection and that you will have to use them on the company terms.

Hi to all,
Any recommendation on the best way to have dual monitoring.
Right now I have it like this;
The computer has hdmi dvi and vga port
One monitor (the one that got #1) has vga and hdmi port. It is a tv actually
This one is connected from the hdmi port to the dvi port on the computer.
The other monitor (he got #2) has only one vga port.
This one is connected from the vga port of course to the vga port on the computer.
But I have got a multi view adapter (USB 2.0) from HIS manufacturer.
So I figure I can have it either one way or the other easily.
But what is the best way????

A:monitoring what's going through my modem

Basically what is happening is your Modem/router/PC are all constantly talking to eachother, even when not in use. Kind of like "hey are you there" which will get a response "yep IM still waiting for orders"... that type of thing.

If you wish, you can use something like Wireshark but you'll really need to know what you are looking for to even sniff out a problem.
https://www.wireshark.org/

As far as the hard drive, that does work while you aren't working as well. You can monitor stuff while on idle by using Task manager and see if you are getting unusual CPU usage while idling.

I've been having a few strange computer things going on and believe someone is intercepting traffic from my laptop A year ago I was looking at some postings on Craigslist and then the next day someone with a Yahoo email address with a variation of my name forwarded those Craigslist postings to my wife's email A few weeks later I posted something on a travel web forum and someone is internet. my What monitoring Someone do? can I responded using the same screen name that I use on another website The poster also revealed some addition personal info about myself I scanned my desktop and laptop with two virus scanners and also used Kapersky to make a boot CD and scan for Someone is monitoring my internet. What can I do? rootkils and viruses outside of windows - all systems were clean I also bought a new router and beefed up my wireless security creating new complex passwords using special characters and using WPA At home I connect to the internet through the router and Comcast cable modem I use windows remote desktop to access my desktop computer from my laptop over the wireless network So everything was fine and nothing weird was happening until yesterday I'm traveling Someone is monitoring my internet. What can I do? out of town using the hotel's wifi with my laptop I visited a few sites and later that day someone again using an email with a variation of my name sent links to those sites to my wife Is it possible someone is intercepting traffic on my home network or has somehow intercepting traffic form my laptop What can I do to prevent this

A:Someone is monitoring my internet. What can I do?

My educated guess is that a very-well planted combination keylogger/internet monitoring program has been installed onto your computer.  Whether this is also a deep rootkit and/or malware plant, I don't know.  A couple of quick things you can try: c:\Program Files and c:\Program Files (x86) -- sort by Date Modificd, and see if any "strange," unknown to you programs appear.  Otherwise, await seasoned BC techs, follow their advice, they won't steer you wrong.

I see no information on the brand and model of the UPS. Is it an APC, TrippLite, Cyberpower, etc.? What is the capacity? I have a few [2 APC and 2 TrippLite] and don't connect directly to the computer [except for the power cable] or install the software that comes with them as they are within eyesight/arm reach.

is there any good software that will monitor my computer, to check if a program is logging keystrokes, or anything of the sort? i found this one here, but am not sure if it is any good/safe?: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/taskmanager.html.

also, any good programs that scan your memory? does malwarebytes' do this?

A:monitoring computer

our link to Neuber Task Manger was broken. The correct one is here. But why pay when there are free alternatives that do essentially the same thing. These are tools to investigate running processes, services and gather additional information to identify them or resolve problems:Process ExplorerSystem ExplorerProcessHacker - (requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or above to use)AutorunsProcess MonitorAnVir TaskManager FreeWindows Service CommandersvchostViewerThese tools will provide information about each process, CPU usage, file description and its path location Most of them are stand-alone apps in a zip file so no installation is necessary.-- System Explorer provides a security check of running processing using their online security database when you first launch the program. Just press the Security Scan tab at the top, then click Start Security Check. After the check you can click the link to See the results of the security check >>. Keep in mind, that the check is not a guarantee of what is or is not detected as malware. -- Process Explorer shows two panes by default: the upper pane is always a process list and the bottom pane either shows the list of DLLs loaded into the process selected in the upper pane, or the list of operating system resource handles (files, Registry keys, synchronization objects) the process has open. In the menu at the top select View > Lower Pane View to change between DLLs and Handles.Anytime you come across a suspicious file or one that you do not recognize, search the name using Google <- click here for an example.Or search the following databases:BC's Startup Programs DatabaseSystemLookup StartupList IndexProcessLibrary.comFile Research CenterIf you cannot find any information, the file has a legitimate name but is not located where it is supposed to be, or you want a second opinion, submit it to one of the following online services that analyzes suspicious files:Jotti's virusscanVirusTotalVirSCANIn the "File to Scan" (Upload or Submit) box, browse to the location of the suspicious file(s) and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis. If you get a message saying "File has already been analyzed", click Reanalyze or Scan again.any good programs that scan your memory? does malwarebytes' do this? When compared to other security tools like Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware, the advantage of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is that it uses a proprietary low level driver similar to some anti-rootkit (ARK) scanners to locate hidden files and special techniques which enable it to detect a wide spectrum of threats including active rootkits. IMO it has proven more effective than many of the stand-alone ARK tools which are available. Malwarebytes intentionally does not search for and remove cookies which pose no significant threat. The research team investigates new rogue applications and malicious files so the database is usually updated several times a day in an aggressive effort to keep it current. Scanning is performed quickly while other tools can take hours. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is designed to remove malware as effectively with a Quick Scan as it will with a Full Scan which takes much longer to complete. Both scans use heuristics that bypasses polymorphic blackhat packers & encryption, MD5 Hash, check memory (loaded .exes and .dlls), unique strings, autostart load points and hotspots (everywhere current malware is known to load from) and multiple other malware checks which are not discussed in public to safeguard the program from malware writers who would use that information for nefarious purposes.A Quick Scan looks at the most prevalent places for active malware so scanning every single file on the drive isn't always necessary.A Full Scan only has the ability to catch more traces in rare circumstances but it can be used to scan every drive (including removable) on the system.A Flash Scan will analyze memory and autorun objects but that option is only avai... Hi, I am worried about the ammount af time and attention my friend's son is giving to his conversations on messenger.

I have looked around for some software to record his conversations (invisibly) and have tried a few free samples with very little success, as the samples don't give enough functionality and there are so many out there, that I cannot make a decent choice.

Can anybody help by recommending something that they know works, or any other help will be very much appreciated.

Always closing the windows when I walk into the room, getting suspicious instant messages, always closing the door when he is online, etc. And I wanted to know what program I could use to see what he is doing online and who he is talking to and such. Is there such a program that I could maybe send through an email, that will tell me what he has been doing???? What are my options?? I really need your help!! Thank you!!

Jus wondering if anyone could suggest a free internet monitoring tool \ program. For a business type environment with 25 users? Basically something that can monitor users internet usage and if you can restrict bandwidth that would be the best!
Thanks!!!

Hi Mark

I don't know of any free tools personally (there are many good programs available retail ... they tend to be pricey). But have you checked over at cnet's download.com? Their editors review a fair amount of the tools, and there are usually some user reviews providing some feedback as well.

[Then there's also the hidden company camera .... :) ]
Best of luck
