VMWare Workstation 8 - Getting hardware to work in Virtualization with specific software

Q: VMWare Workstation 8 - Getting hardware to work in Virtualization with specific software

Hey guys I work with a company who designs hardware for the Windows OS We are trying to see if virtualization can port our hardware to work in Mac and Linux Here is how our hardware works and what the problem is- Our hardware is considered under Windows as an USB VMWare Getting in specific work hardware 8 Virtualization - to with Workstation software Microphone Our devices ONLY work with our software If the hardware device is not detected our software will fail upon startup and close immediately Ok so I plug in a device then bootup MAC OS X Snow Leopard I go to tools and import USB Microphone The USB microphone shows up in MAC settings as being present I then use WINE to open our Windows based software in the MAC environment Every time I do this our software states there is no device detected Now I know there has to be a way to do this and i m sure it s advanced too but I really need any type of advanced help in figuring out what is restricting this to work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Hardware Virtualization enabled on Workstation Hyper V platf...

The solution... I 've found it myself: At first the message on the internet is that a client Hyper V on a Windows 8 machine requires a CPU that has SLAT (Second Level Address Translation) capabilities. Well in my case I have a HP XW6600 workstation with two Xeon Quad Cores - E5450 and how wonderful these are... no SLAT. The best way I found that works is the link above. What you have to do is go to the command line by typing in the Search Charm (Windows key + W) and search for CMD.exe and then run as administrator. Then go to the command line - to the C prompt and type in there Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:microsoft-Hyper-V -All and press [enter] Your system will want to reboot, reboot and check the Windows Feature set and you will see the checkbox ticked and no longer grey. Tataaa Spooon

Hi all To install W developer edition current version as a VM with vmware workstation you have to download upgrade to version Version X and earlier won't work Vmware player current version gives same problem as vmware workstation x When you install choose W W8 vmware Install in use you of workstation must version -- vmware 8 as the OS there isn't a W option yet not surprisingly and select I will install the OS later Then select the DVD device in the vm serttings as a virtual ISO you don't need to burn a physical DVD and boot from the device Then it will install more or less as W Ignore any prompt for Install W8 in vmware workstation -- you must use version 8 of vmware a product key if it appears I wasn't asked for one but some people seem to get a request for a product key when attempting to install Install W8 in vmware workstation -- you must use version 8 of vmware W as a virtual machine You can download a free trial version for days from the vmware site it may be that eventually version x will work or the next upgrade of W will work so unless you want to upgrade to version of vmware workstation I'd start with downloading the trial Then it installs OK I don't have enough privileges yet to upload screenshot but it installs fine I've also posted a suggestion on how to remove disable the metro gui for those that want a more quot classical quot Windows look - you can see the post in the W Forum until I can get approval to post in the relevant section on this Forum on customising W http www sevenforums com chillout- -apps-gui html Cheers jimbo

Hi starcraftmasterVMware Workstation will indeed allow you to run an operating system within another. You say you want to run XP within ME. I am guessing that if you are running ME then perhaps your PC is fairly old and might not be up to running VMware. It would be best to vist their site and check out the system requirements for running it. that you can trial VMware for 30 days before you have to part with your money. There are alternatives to VMwareMicrosoft's Virtual PC is free and can be found here;displaylang=en However it is not supported on ME.Sun's Virtual Box is also free and can be found here Again you will need to check out the system requirements for running it.

I'm using VMWare Workstation 11, which is installed on Win 8.1. I have no issues with USB 2.0 drives in the guest operating systems, but for some reason, can't get 3.0 drives to work. I've tested this using Win 7 and Win 8.1 as guest operating systems.

I've done a bit of searching, but can't seem to find any reports of my exact issue. The only documentation I could find is for version 9, because it wasn't supported in that version. Looks like version 10 and beyond it should not be an issue.

Does anyone here have experience with VMWare workstation's 'management server'?
I run offline virtual machines but they require BOTH encryption and management, because of this I have consistently been having issues with this management server, the error is 'could not open virtual machine [path], failed to contact the restrictions management server. Check the address of the server', which is not surprising that it can't connect to the server; the host is offline. What does surprise me is that I've maxed out all the settings with regards to this management server (maximum 999 days without contact), but the error is STILL shown, really, 999 days have not passed since I created this virtual machine so why is the error being shown?
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem that should never have arisen?

Of course. When creating the Virtual HDD save it to the location you want. In fact setup VMware's default location for Virtual Machines where you want. Its in the options.

If you are using VMWare Workstation with Windows 8.1 you will have to reinstall it. I attempted a repair first but that didn't work so I removed and reinstalled, and now all is working just fine. VMWare player worked without having to do a reinstall. . . good luck.

A:Windows 8.1 and VMWare Workstation

I did an uninstall/reinstall of VMWare Player 5.0.2 after upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1.
VMWare and the VMs ran OK but the Windows upgrade messed up the virtual network adapters.

The upgrade to Windows 8.1 also reset many of the preferences in my local user account, including such things as File Explorer settings, RDC default folder, Send To items, etc.
Overall relatively painless, but probably a bit confusing and frustrating for anyone non-technical, as once again the upgrade attempts to force you into creating a new online user account.

I run almost everything in VMs though, the only software installed on the Windows 8.x host is MS Office HS 2007, VMWare, and WinZip. So I wasn't expecting too much difficulty with the upgrade.

So far I do like the upgrade changes though...

Hello Guys, Hope you all are fine.

I want to install some of the programs and OS that I want to test before installing them on my actual computer. But, here I am confused between the two Virtualization Products:-

1) Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.2.16

2) VMware Workstation 9.0.2

Both of these are popular and will work flawlessly but my question is that which would be more better to work. I know that VBox is free and is GNU whereas VMware is expensive but I am ready to pay for it if its better.

Please help me and tell which I should use.

I need the following qualities:-

1) Easy to use User Interface
2) Reliable
3) Work Flawlessly
4) Should not decrease my Host Performance
5) Should have a good Graphics Acceleration

A:Which Is Better VirtualBox Or VMware Workstation 9

There are tons of articles on this one. Google it: Workstation vs VirtualBox
Here's a recent one:
Review: VMware Workstation 9 vs. VirtualBox 4.2 | Virtualization - InfoWorld

Each time, Workstation wins overall due to the stability, reputation and features it has + you get better performance at cpu and gpu in a VM.

VirtualBox would win the host performance section because it doesn't slow the host (or the least slowdown you can get): no services are installed at all and of course also the best price tag which is free. For the rest, go to Workstation's features. All VirtualBox VM's are usually fast.

Workstation has just a minor impact on performance (due to a lot of features + services) and with modern hardware this isn't a problem at all. Workstation VM's are usually more advanced if you consider the different hardware versions (to choose from) and so many system resources propped in a VM when needed.

On Workstation you also have the best graphic acceleration of the two and drag and drop exists (VBox still works at dnd and is experimental for Linux only at the moment).

If by the way you also need real stretched full screen the you'll need Workstation for its "exclusive mode".
VirtualBox has something called "scale mode" but the graphics still have issues in this mode.

In the end Workstation Unity Mode integrates best between host and guest.

Something I didn't found much about online yet:
Workstation's UEFI mode supports also Windows so you can have UEFI in a VM even if the host is legacy MBR.
VirtualBox UEFI doesn't support Windows yet. You can still install OS X and Linux though.

I've done a clean install of windows 10 Pro but am now unable to get internet on a guest VM on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 . I just get a yellow ? Ethernet controller in device manager.
I tried my legal copies of Windows Me and Windows 3.11 and can get internet on them fine.

Everything was working fine when I had Windows 8.1 as a host.

Try re-installing VMware. If that doesn't work, make sure that the firewall on host computer isn't blocking VMware, then update or install VMware Tools in the VMs. (I could give you step-by-step instructions but I'm sure you won't need them)

Based on a scenario, I have queries as following.

VMware Workstation 12 Pro is installed in a Windows 10 Desktop. As guest OS, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012 R2 are installed in VMware Workstation.I have to do a setup for networking practice with guest OS.I have DHCP enabled router installed by the internet service provider.
Network setting of all guest OS is bridged and I have to install and configure DNS, DHCP and AD in Windows Server 2012 R2.

I am not able to configure DNS and DHCP in Windows Server 2012 R2.
I read, only one DHCP can be configured in a LAN and already a DHCP-enabled router in this LAN.

Please guide me a tip and trick for setting up networking with guest OS in this scenario.

I believe, I explained well.

Hi there I got esxi running but not really satisfied with performance and the hassle Esxi PROPRIETARY and workstation KVM NON and than vmware better of controlling VM's from a remote computer So I decided to re-visit using KVM can be considered Linux's equivalent KVM better than vmware workstation and Esxi and NON PROPRIETARY to HYPER-V KVM is free of course it's part of most KVM better than vmware workstation and Esxi and NON PROPRIETARY Linux distros - but RHEL and Centos naturally has this down to a fine art so install documentation is really good It turned out surprisingly easy from a CENTOS HOST and I O performance is STREETS ahead of both VMWARE workstation and the VM running under Esxi The other nice thing is that you can also control the VM's on the LOCAL HOST PCI passthru works fine and you can use quot paravirtualisation quot if you want to install specific hardware drivers on the VM to extract even better performance VMware esxi VM's can be converted easily enough - or re-installing the Guest OS is a doddle anyway Note - you have to enable VT-X in the BIOS on intel CPU's --usually all done by default these days -- for AMD there's an equivalent but don't know what it is Very happy with this solution -- you can install a minimal Linux system and control everything via a CLI if you don't want a Linux GUI I'd recommend doing it from the GUI for beginners For those playing around with Linux Hosts who want to try other ways of running Windows Guests I'd recommend having a look at KVM -- it really is surprisingly easy -- AND STABLE Also being able to control the VM's from a local host is a great advantage for quot Home user quot who don't need Enterprise type solutions Install KVM QEMU on CentOS RHEL Note -- there is a bug you can't use a PHYSICAL ISO to create the VM - an Image iso disk based iso works fine This works for most other common distros too --opensuse Ubuntu Linux Mint etc Have fun Cheers jimbo

Running Windows 10 Pro x64. I was trying to install a 64 bit OS today, when it told me that it won't run because the host is not configured for it. After looking into it for 30 seconds, I realized that VMWare had installed as 32 bit, and I cannot figure out why or how to install it as 64 bit. I have uninstalled and run the installer again, but the installer just runs as 32 bit.

I have a 64 bit OS and processor, and I'm just reinstalling this after a fresh hard drive wipe and reinstall of Windows. This was never a problem before on VMWare 11 or 12 before I wiped my drive.

I don't want to use VirtualBox or anything else, because I like VMWare and it's what I have a license for.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Actually it seems that some other software that (I think) has 64 bit versions are also installing as 32 bit, but not all.

Does anyone know if it's possible to port forward to a NAT'd subnet within VMWare Workstation? I have a subnet, let's say which is the main subnet and within VMWare Workstation I created a nat'd subnet of I can ping the subnet from my locally. I tried port forwarding some ports, I have an Edgerouter Lite but I can't hit the ports from the outside. Is this even possible?

A:VMWare Workstation port forwarding and NAT

The reason this happens is because you have introduced a new layer 3 segment to your network. Your EdgeRouter does not know how to reach the network, which is why you can reach hosts on the network from your host machine that has that network "direct attached". What you need is a static route on the EdgeRouter to "tell" it how to reach the network.

IIRC your computer is basically acting as a router between the and networks. The only other way around this is if you set up a trunk between your computer NIC and the EdgeRouter.

Hi there
1) can the HOST machine connect to the Internet -- this might be obvious but often the Simplest solutions tend to be the correct answer.

2) Is the Virtual adapter connected AND enabled.

3) Firewalls / router blocking the Virtual XP machine.

Incidentally when I did a W7 Upgrade I couldn't get VM networking to work at all until I'd re-installed vmware.

If you did a W7 Upgrade just re-install vmware (and vmware tools onve the vm is powerd on).

Normally NAT is no problem.

You could also try changing the Networking to "Bridged" although this can give problems if your HOST adapter is a Wireless adapter.

enc XP vm version 6.5.2 running on W7 x-64 build 7077 -- no probs

I tried VMWare Workstation 9 on Windows 8. VMWare Workstation is probably the best choice for an alternative of XP Mode. XP Mode is supported by Windows 7, but I use Windows 8. The sound of my virtual machine (Win XP) is strange, scratchy, distorted... The problem can simply be Windows 8 (it's a new OS), but I'm trying to have an alternative of XP Mode to play old games et use old sofware. Without a good sound, it's not very interesting.

Does anyone have this problem ?

I found something intersting on VMWare's forum : VMware Communities: Audio stuttering on VMware Workstation...

A:Strange sound with VMWare Workstation

Yes I have that sometimes.
Still a mystery but can be related to underclocked CPU (power plan options) I use, or in general no updated VM tools.

Use 1 CPU for VM's where you test old programs (including games). Seems to work better.

In the link you posted, they say something about the virtual hardware version.
You can upgrade if needed to the latest version 9 in the interface but I use Player and need to edit the VMX file manually.
But sometimes, downgrading is also needed.

See here:
How to (manually) upgrade VM's in VMware Player
This applies to Workstation as well.

Use what works best for the needed VM.

Version 9 for the VM:

virtualHW.version = "9"

Version 8:

virtualHW.version = "8"

and Version 6.5 - 7:

virtualHW.version = "7"

Drivers differ between these versions. Older programs may work better with older settings + 1CPU.

Some older games (I already talked about this issue) work bad in a XP VM with tools installed.
Therefore use a Win98 or ME virtual machine and here you can use VM tools (older version 7 is the latest provided in this case + no 3D acceleration, keep in mind).

Hope I mentioned something useful for this case.

Thanks for the link.

Hi I tried installing vmware workstation 5.5 on Vista Ultimate, The installation failed and now if I try running the uninstaller my computer crashes into a BSOD.

I can't install some programs now because halfway through it will popup a box warning me that I have a paused installation of vmware and do I want to resume it.

From what I read on Vmware's website, Vista is not a supported Host OS for version 5.5. I assume you have system recovery turned on. Have you tried rolling back the system.

Hey everybody.

I have a problem uninstalling VMware workstation (WS). When the uninstall.exe launches, there's no controls on the form. (see screenshot)
Since this is a rather complex software I'd like to get it out of my OS the the good way.

I tried some external uninstall programs but all of them launch that form. I also tried running the setup program for VMware WS but I get the same result - a form with no controls.

Is there an uninstall software that doesn't lauch uninstall.exe? Or any other ideas?

It's on Win7 x86, WMware WS v7.0.0.203739

Hi there

just thought I'd do a Bonkers experiment - works and isn't too slow (but use SSD !!!).

VM1 (ist level VM - 2nd level machine) Linux CENTOS 7 with latest kernel (4.7)

VM2 --installed VMware workstation on the Linux machine (VM1) --created XP VM --works fine !!!!

I know it's Bonkers but I was curious to see if the HYPERVISOR (HYPER-V) on the Host would propagate its properties to a second level machine (VM1) preventing VMWARE workstation from running.

Seems that the XP VM which is using VM1 as its Host doesn't know anything about HYPER-V nor does VM1.

Hi Folks,
I found your website with a search that led to a very similar problem I am having, found it in this post: Dell Precision M6400 BSOD

I have a Dell Precision M6400, and I am trying to get VMWare workstation to run but it BSODs within minutes (sometimes longer) when running in a VM. It does this regardless of which VM I am running (I have made three, XP, Win7, and Debian). The laptop is completely stable when not running Workstation, so I am guessing there is some type of conflict with what I have installed.

The guest VM will boot up and I can begin working in it, then after some heavy activity (could be anything, file edits, compiles, Windows Updates, etc) the guest will stutter freeze, then freeze up. Within a minute or so the Host will BSOD.

I have uploaded my SevenForums info package for your input.

Any help appreciated!

New release of VMware workstation (Rel 9) and updated version of Free vmplayer released

Works fine on W8 x-64 Enterprise RTM (TechNet version - not the "Leaked version").

In addition to the info in Hopachi's post

So far -- Unity has support for Full screen
USB3 works fine too -- that's what made it for me the "Must have " upgrade.

I get it free from work anyway under corporate license.

Otherwise 119 USD for upgrade.

I have Windows 8.1 installed on an external hard drive. actually you would on an internal drive (WinToUSB - Install and Run Windows on a USB Drive)
and I want to use it with my main PC without booting entirely from it... which is where VMWare comes into play.
So, want to boot from external drive containing Windows 8.1 using VMWare
Anyone know how?

A:Booting from external hard drive in VMWare Workstation?

Hi there
AFAIK the only way to boot Windows from an external HDD is to either use a Windows to Go system (Enterprise) or create a bootable Linux system (these boot from external devices) and run a VM from the Linux.

I've done this many times on an external USB connected via a SATA==>USB connector on a laptop. I use an old Laptop HDD -- works fine. If you have a SATA==>USB3 connector even better or an external USB even better.

Here's a link about this I made a while ago.

How to make Portable Windows system (any version)

This system will run TOTALLY from am external HDD even if there's NO internal HDD in the HOST computer. Other solutions like attaching Virtual HDD's are OK but this then NEEDS the initial boot from an internal HDD to mount the VHD. My method runs 100% from the external HDD.

The vmware virtual pc is treated as a second computer,
so it locks in the drive when activated.
You would need to share the drive and access over the network
to use it from windows.

Hi all

This seems to be a good LEGAL way of getting the stand alone vmplayer 4 (for creating W8 VM's under vmware).

Download the vmware TRIAL WORKSTATION software

This incorporates the vmware player version 4 (which should be availialable as a stand alone free product later).

If you start it up you will see that unlike WORKSTATION it doesn't have an expiry date.

screenshot enc.
So for those who don't want to pay 140 or so USD you can get vmware player simply by signing up for workstation TRIAL and just use the vmware player.

It should be available later as a stand alone download but for those who can't wait !!!!

A:vmware player 4 DOES NOT EXPIRE even on trial workstation download

Vmware Player already has the update to 4 available through the older Vmware player program since 5 days ago.

No need to get Workstation to get to the new Vmware player 4. Just update within your existing Vmware player install, or download Vmware player 3.14, and check for updates with it.

I thought I would start a (impartial) discussion here as it would help me with it terms of how I might configure a new Windows 8 laptop.
Ok, VMWare Worstation 9 was released on the 23rd August. As a freelance consultant I want to configure Windows 8 Pro to run multiple server virtual farms (AD, SharePoint, exchange etc) . Since I want this to all be hosted on a reasonably high spec laptop so i7 > 16 GB DDR3 etc. I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on, or planning to evaluate this type of scenario, on either Client hyper-v or VMWorkstation 9

PerformanceBattery drain -Easy of creating snapshots of vm clonesUSB 3 support Ease of setting up a virtual networks of one or more servers and also internet connectivity testing metro apps in Windows 8 vms ability to move the the VMs in to a cloud service and vica versa
Let the debate begin

A:Windows 8 Client Hyper-v verses VMWare Workstation 9

Well, first and foremost, Hyper-V is going to be included for free, which VMWare Workstation 9.x currently is a $249.00 product.

I'm a VMWare user, but I use the enterprise products at work, am very familiar with how they work and have more of a need to keep things consistent. VMware has always been the better product for me as I often virtualize more Linux boxes than anything else and MS support of Linux clients as a VM has never been that good.

I have a license for VMWare Workstation 8.x, and am unsure yet if I will pony up the $119 for the upgrade. The feature set didn't seem like it was going to really be that advantageous for me. So, my experience on Workstation 9.x might continue to be lacking.

To me, it seems like you want to run MS apps, and you get Hyper-V for free. I would really start there and see if you have concerns. Then consider the cost and feature set of VMWare Workstation.

Windows said there was an error with the drive that i use for my virtual machines and i went ahead and let windows repair the errors not knowing that all of my VMDKs would be corrupt, in VMware their sizes don't show up, i did a web search and all i learned is that the vmdk descriptor file is corrupt, and i don't know if this is something that can be repaired or if i have to reinstall all of my VMs. I really hope i can just repair them, as i need some of these for school and i don't have the time to reinstall.

A:Solved: VMware workstation 11 VMDKs corrupt after repairing drive

only the recently created VMs were corrupt, and those weren't required for school so, i guess this is solved...? also, people should use this as a warning, if windows says your drive has errors and needs to be repaired and it contains VMs on it, maybe copy them off of the drive first then repair the drive. (note: i'm reinstalling the corrupt VMs as they aren't important as the others.)

I have a -monitor desktop setup running Windows as a host OS I use one monitor VMWare mode up hangs screen full in VMs guest Workstation exclusively to run VMWare Workstation When VMWare first loads up at host PC boot I click quot Enter full screen mode quot button which expands it to the VMWare Workstation hangs up guest VMs in full screen mode size of that monitor I then usually load several guest OS's into it My host OS is set up to VMWare Workstation hangs up guest VMs in full screen mode show a password protected screensaver after minutes and then turn off the screen after minutes of inactivity So what I've been noticing and yes this is repeatable is that sometimes when I wake the screen amp log in to my host computer in the morning most of the guest VMs don't seem to respond and show just a back screen Note that it doesn't happen all the time and is somewhat sporadic Here's a quick animated GIF screengrab to show what happens afterwards As you can see only the first VM seems to respond to clicks the rest appear dead Note that if I try to send Ctrl Alt Del keyboard sequence to any of those quot hung up quot guest VMs nothing happens The only way to recover from this bug is to force-quit the VMWare Workstation itself or reboot the host PC which are both analogous to me flipping the power switch on all guest VMs with data being lost in them which is very annoying So I'm curious if anyone knows a way to recover from this bug w o force-quitting the VMs PS I obviously posted this question on VMWare forums but to be honest I don't have much faith in them I tried it before and I never get responses from them From my experience VMWare has a very bad customer support Or I should say they're quot too big quot for a single user like me PS I also checked online and there was an update v build- to VMWare that I installed which unfortunately didn't fix anything

Before I did a clean Windows 7 install and update to SP1 everything worked fine, so this problem is new.

I'm using VMware Workstation and I can't get the VM to grab my mouse input when I click on the window or press ctrl+g. If I manually add the mouse or keyboard as a device to the VM it works fine but not if I click on the VM window (which is what i really need). This started after I formatted my computer and re-installed Windows 7 with SP1 updates so it might be the SP1 updates which broke it..

I'm running Ubuntu inside Windows 7.

Any ideas?

Hi All,

On a rock solid machine (to date) I got a BSOD. During this time I was using Unity (VMWare Pro), and the host crashed (not the client VM).

I did try the tool at, which seems to claim that the culprit was steam.exe, but I'm not sure that makes sense.

Any help would be appreciated.

You have the T6400 processor. From the specs: Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) ?No So your processor does not support hardware virtualization. If you replaced it with a T9xxx series it would support. A lot of work on that model series.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Thanks for reading,

There's no mention of virtualization in the specs - so I wouldn't hold my breath over this.

There is no reason why Frontpage 2003 should not install in Windows 7. You should post what error messages you get and/or a detailed description of the problem. We may be able to get that installed for you.

I assume you want to install XP in order to run Frontpage? As above, none of this should be necessary for that.

In your BIOS settings there should be an option - usually under the Advanced Tab - to Enable "Virtualization Technology". If this option is disabled then a virtual machine may not install.

I have been tasked with the job allowing a specific set of users to log on certain workstations. For example, only accounting users will have access to the workstations in the accounting department. They will not be able to use workstations in
other departments and other department users  will not be able to use the accounting department workstations. I am manually testing a few workstations.

What I have done so far:
Administrators Group
In the administrators group: I have Domain Admins and the Administrator account (I have to remove local admin rights for our users)
Users Group
In the users group: I currently have Authenticated users and interactive users.

I want to remove authenticated users and add the accounting group, system, and domain admins.
Is this ok to do? If I should not remove authenticated users, I need to explain why and document.  Thank you.

► More info --

The Optiplex 7010 is dual-boot. At the moment, I'm in my Win 8 Pro 64-bit OS. Its "System Information" shows the following four lines:

Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions ... Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions ... Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware ... Yes
Hyper-V - Data Execution Prevention ... Yes.

I am not familiar with Hyper-V, and I certainly didn't install it on my own. I don't know why there are any references to it. But, anyway, do these four lines mean anything?

Does the machine's DEP prevent the use of hardware virtualization?

I know that this question probably gets asked a lot of time, but my problem is that I can't seem to figure out where to the disable hardware virtualization option is in BIOS.

I have looked upon all the sections, and there is no option that lets me disable this feature. For example in the section named Security I am allowed to set some passwords (3 passwords in total - don't remember for what they were exactly) but pretty much nothing else is there. The first section is called Information and you are not allowed to change anything on that page.

Finally, I have also verified that my processor has the option of hardware virtualization technology through the Intel Processor Identification Utility. My CPU is Intel Core i7-2670QM (2.2Ghz)

(Extra Note: I need to disable this feature in order to run Mac OS X on VMWare)

How to enable hardware virtualization in Aptio Setup Utility?
I am not able to enable it in BIOS.
I want this because while installing Androin 4.4 in Virtualbox it is giving some error.

I have also uploaded Speccy CPU configuration which states that virtulization is supported and few pics of my BIOS.

A:How to enable hardware virtualization in Aptio Setup Utili

Most important question: What is the error? We're not all-knowing here.
It might not be VT-x related at all, Android should be x86 in a VM and expect it to act weird.

Check the Virtualbox forums for specific details.
But a bit more on the VT issue:
I got a pc (here Medion) with Aptio as well. Problem is that I have AMD cpu on this one so the comparison won't help much.
Here the BIOS reports virtualization is on, I think. If your pc is new this year/last year, than VT-x should normally be on by default.

BUT: here Speccy says virtualization is disabled as well! Be careful, it might be a false warning. I can use virtualization in Virtualbox: the tab is enabled and I don't get any errors/warnings. So VT is ON even if Spaccy says it isn't. Check multiple sources to make sure.

Actually a good place to look is the VM log: Vbox.log in the VM folder: I see in my case AMD-V is used so virtualization is enabled.

00:00:03.677075 HM: Using AMD-V implementation 2.0!

In your case for Intel you should search for VT-X because it will report it ON or OFF.
Sorry, I'm not on my Intel machine at the moment but the previous lines should tell you what you need.

Good luck.

A:Virtualization Software

Hi Scott,
This should not affect the performance of your host. Windows 8 runs well with VirtualBox; it doesn't use many resources and I haven't noticed any host slowdown (win7 x64). In fact in my experience Windows 8 runs a lot smoother on VM than its predecessors.

Will someone explain the difference, and does it have something to do with a external flash drive?

A:Virtualization software

If it is a virtual drive software program it will allow you to make a drive like your CD-ROM to mount .ISO image files so you don't need the DVD or CD in your computer to play it
I use Daemon Tools for mine.
Some people have had problems with the driver.
It could also be the software to make the .ISO file with I don't know enough about what you have.

Hello The environment is as follows Windows Pro with certain security updates installed causes an issue for Standard users using VMWare Workstation where the mouse clicks that are meant for a VM are not registered by the VM every time sometimes it takes to 8, updates, click mouse 8.1 Pro Workstation User, issue security Standard with VMWare Windows Windows clicks to register in the VM and then other times you have to move the mouse outside the VM window and bring it back in for the mouse clicks to register This Windows 8.1 Pro with VMWare Workstation 8, Windows security updates, Standard User, mouse click issue issue is not present for Administrator users I have already narrowed down one update specifically that causes this issue by uninstalling Windows 8.1 Pro with VMWare Workstation 8, Windows security updates, Standard User, mouse click issue all security updates the problem went away as I installed one update at a time back on to the system update nbsp KB triggered the issue Windows 8.1 Pro with VMWare Workstation 8, Windows security updates, Standard User, mouse click issue I thought this was a resolution to just keep that update off my end users machines but when I installed the rest of the security updates excluding that update the issue returned I could uninstall and reinstall and narrow this down further but my main concern is that one this may create security issues that these updates are intended to fix and two that would create a lot of administrative overhead especially if more security updates in the future will cause the issue to return I would like for Microsoft to investigate this issue and either fix the problem with these updates or come up with a new update I can deploy that fixes this problem if such an update already exists I would greatly appreciate to be pointed in its direction either by KB number or download link so I can deploy it to fix this issue Thanks
