I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I haven't had Microsoft Office 2013 a week now and I already am having problems with opening documents that are in Microsoft Word's native format (docx). The problem lies within Windows and not word it seems. While the icon for docx files show the Word 2013 icon, it refuses to open with Microsoft Word 2013. Windows tells me that it does not know how to open docx files. It worked flawlessly since its install last Wednesday downloaded right from with the user name that was provided to me by KVCC, the college I attend. Office 2013 licenses are provided to all students as of 2016. Not even a week later, it is messing up. Word can still open .doc & .odt files but not docx files. There are a number of results on the internet where a problem with Office 2013 not being able to open docx files, but none are the problem I face, windows not knowing how to open it.

For some reason I can no longer open Microsoft Works Word Processor or any of the files I created using this programme. When I try to do so I get the following error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

I uninstalled the programme and then re-installed it subsequently but still have the same problem. All other programmes in the suite such as Microsoft Calender, Database, Spreadsheet etc. are all opening OK.

If anyone can throw some light on this issue I would be most grateful.

Hello. I have Microsoft Works Word Processor.
I have a Vista operating system.

When I open up a word document to type,
I want it always to open with another font and size,
not the current one. (times new roman).

It is hassle to change this everytime, and then it goes back to times new roman whenever it wants.

I cannot find out how to do this.
I cannot even find a "preferences" in case that would work.
Any suggestions?

Hello Community,

I'm having an issue here, and reading through threads and forum posts - i'm getting nowhere.

I get no error messages when trying to open a file from a mapped drive.

I have a user onsite unable to open any Mircosoft Office 2013 files from any of his mapped network drives. If he takes the files, copies them locally to his laptop, then open perfectly fine. However, if i try to open a office file from their mapped drive, it just opens up a blank document.

--I've done the changing folder name of the Microsoft folder within %AppData%, still no luck.
--I've tried repairing Microsoft Office, still no luck.

I don't want to uninstall office, then re-install as i will have to drop the computer off our domain (Group Policy for some reason, blocks office.) *I'd prefer this to be the final option.

Surely there must be a fix around? Much thanks!

Hi, I just uninstalled something related to Microsoft Office and now I can't seem to open any .docx files in my documents anymore. I am currently using Microsoft Word Starter 2010. The only way I seem to be able to open the files in my documents folder is opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first then go to file -> open the .docx file. If I try opening it directly from my documents folder without opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first, there's a popup that says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Here is the thing: At my work, we have a shared document with a number of documents that about 15 people have to access. If one person is in the document, a message comes up that it is being used by another user and to press ok if we would like to make a copy. After hitting ok, the copy comes up. This does not result in a copy of the actual document after we close out.
To my point, recently, a number of PCs were upgraded. They are no longer able to make copies or to Read Only documents.
Tech support has been called a number of times, but they are not making any progress.
Does anyone have any ideas????
I appreciate your help!

I keep getting error messages when trying to open files created in Word 2003. I'm a former IT Systems Technician, and my girlfriend is a work-from-home writer. I've recently migrated her PC's original processor and ram from an HP motherboard to an ASRock board, linking the original WD Caviar Blue 1TB drive to the board as a secondary drive to collect documents and storage from, while running Windows 8.1 (up to date) on a Seagate Barracuda 250GB for the main OS and programs drive.

With those specs out there in the open, now it's time to get to the root of the problem.

As a work-from-home writer, my girlfriend depends on the ability to save her documents to Microsoft's OneDrive and upload them to her publisher, but with this error showing up, she cannot get them to save. I have never seen such a message in my many years of IT service, and I'm completely baffled.

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for reading and for any suggestions.

I've been experiencing an annoying issue with Word 2013 in that it almost, but doesn't quite open files. This happens inconsistently, maybe once for every 30 or so files I open. I open the document in the usual fashion but its window doesn't appear. If I right click on Word on the Task bar I can see the preview of the file's window, but it is blank. I can close the document from there, and next time I try to open it it will invariably work.

I've attached a screenshot of this happening. If I click on the blank preview the screen blinks and it seems that focus has gone to the document (as I have to click a couple of times on another active window to bring focus back to it).

Has anyone else experienced this, and figured out a solution?

You need to add the items to a table and then you should be able to do the sorting.

Look in the "Help" and search on 'sort' and the last entry is a helper.

I have Windows XP and Microsoft Works word processing at home, but at work I have Word. I can't open things I have typed at home in Word, and if I send something in Works as an attachment in an email, other people can't open it. So I have several questions:

1) Why have I not got Word? Is Works the new version of Word? Will everyone soon have it? What is the difference? Why are they not compatible?
2) Is it posible to download Word on the internet? How can I get Word on my computer? Or how can I send a document to someone who only has Word so that they can open it?

Hello - I copied a file from someone's computer onto a floppy. When I put the floppy in my machine I received this message " Works cannot open the file because the file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt." The computer I copied the file from is running windows XP. The computer I tried to open the file on is running Windows me. The windows me computer does have microsoft works word processor installed on it . So It should be able to open the program. Both computers were purchased within a year and a half so programs should be compatible. I have tried opening the file with Word but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions? I suspect DEP isnt turned off or it wouldn't be able to "shut down word". You can however, simply add word to DEP's exception list and it will ignore it.

Is there any way I can change the defaults or just make the .rtf the first choice in her choices of saving files?

I've got Word at work and the Windows XP(home edition) Works word processor at home -- but they don't seem to be compatiable when I bring a disk home with a Word file.

Any tips?

A:Microsoft Works and Word -- compatible??

In Word 2000, there's a Save As Works 2000 option. If your file is anything other than very basic, you'll be prompted that "some features may be lost". I just tried it with a Word doc containing a table (Works WP files doesn't do tables), sure enough it came out pretty screwed.

You could always download OpenOffice for use at home -- it opened the file (Word version) no problem.

My system is Windows XP and I feel my computer user level is just basic. I have lost all the history in my Microsoft Works(7.0) Word Processor. (no clue how it got lost)When I go to My Documents I can see all the files from history but I cannot open any of them. When I try to open a file it directs me to buy Word Perfect(R) 11 software with an upgrade to Word Perfect 12 for $99.00. Should I buy the software? Is there a way to move the files back into the Word Processor history? Next to each file in My Documents it says WPEntrust Signed Document.

A:Microsoft Works Word Processor History

MS Works has nothing to do with Word Perfect! MS Works is related to MS Office. If you are looking for your documents, have you tried launching Works and going to File/Open to see what is there? Perhaps you had a trial version of Word Perfect in your computer, too. If you like the word processor in Works, perhaps you should upgrade to Word 2007 instead -- Word is a much larger, more diversified program than the abbreviated version in Works.

I tried to get help with this a long time ago, but it was never really resolved, from what I remember. For some reason, whenever I try to open a document that has previously been saved, reopened at a later date, and re-saved, I get this message every time I open it again. I just end up hitting save again and replacing the original copy with the new copy even though they are exactly the same. Previously, a "helper" on Bleeping Computer told me they thought it was happening because my computer was shutting down on it's own, but this is not always the case. There is not much help online for this, and what there is seems to refer back to issues with Norton Anti-virus. Problem there is that I don't have Norton installed on my PC.

I reset the Microsoft Works Word Processor to default with a different font size. It worked fine. Then, while setting up a printing for envelopes, I tried to reset that as a default as well. Big mistake. Now when I open the word processor program it comes up as the envelope function and I cannot get the original page for letter writing back. Microsoft was no help when I accessed their web page (too far over my head in their explanations as well as being not too user-friendly for my level of understanding). Does anyone know how I can get it open the right way again? I use Window's Vista on an Acer Extensa 5620. Thanks.

A:Solved: Microsoft Works Word Processor

This only applies for the Works word processor, the common one in Works NOT spelled with a capital W, as in Word.

First, only do this with the Work word processor not going.
If you really only want one default word processing template in Works (and it sounds like you do), and if you have no other templates that you want (and it sounds like you don't) then you can just delete all templates in this folder:
Then, just start up the word processor and see if it is fixed.

If that is not the case, just let me know and I will adjust and tell you what else you can do, instead.

If you like, you can try the "global" fix. Go to

Hi there guys.
Okay so here's the issue.
I have an HP Pavillion a813w that had Microsoft Works pre-installed on my computer.

Now, I just did a roll back, totally reformated my computer on April 10th to total factory settings once more, so my computer is relatively unbuggy, or so I thought.
However, when I was sent a document from a friend today via AIM, and I scanned it with my virus scanner, it was clean. It had me say yes, I agree to the EULA, and then as it was loading up, it just seemed to disappear, I couldn't open up the document, and I have tried rebooting, and restoring both and it would do nothing.

I'm wondering if there's a reason for this..

I'm trying to figure this out, first time I've ever had Works do this, before I reformated that is.

Well it used to work. And I've got to open my resume to get a job!!!! And no, I dont have the disk. This happens at every startup too. I have to sit the and cancel it over and over again as it tries three times to load. Your help would grrrrrrreatly appreciated.

A:Microsoft Word Won't Open

If you need your resume straight away, you can download; its word processor should be able to open the Word document (unless the original .doc file has become corrupt).
