Digital Audio (S/PDIF) Making a Digital Sound with Internet Surfing?

Q: Digital Audio (S/PDIF) Making a Digital Sound with Internet Surfing?

Hi, I've recently switched to Digital Audio (S/PDIF) (High Definition Audio Device) using one Toslink cable instead of all the analog wires going from my PC to my receiver. The digital sound is amazing, CD quality from my PC is great. However, I now also receive the digitized sound of pages being loaded as I surf the web. All sound comes out digitized when loading a new page. Is there a way to stop this from happening while listening to music or course material without gong back to analog? Can I have my digital CD quality and enjoy it too! John

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I assume you're running Windows. Which one?

I do a lot of audio work on mine, using Windows XP SP 3, and was able to kill the sounds by opening the Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices, and then click on the Sounds tab. For "Sound Scheme" select "No Sounds" and click the "Save As" box.

On board sound cards are not known for their quality but try going in to your sound panel and muting all input and output sources you do not use (like mic and analog)

Alen88 weelcome to the Seven Forums.

Your motherboard doesn't have Realtek audio, it has the ADI 1986 based on the DevID,

PCI Vendor and Device Lists

Knowing the make and model of the motherboard would help in finding if there are Windows 7 drivers for it, but I have a feeling there won't be. If you're feeling adventurous you can try the driver from here,

ADI SoundMAX 86/88/A/B/89,Xonar [6585/6600/6605][04-03-2010] • nForcersHQ.com

and follow the 2 steps on how to add the DevID from yours so that it will install.

Answered on your other duplicate post. To get speaker or headphone audio you need to set the "Speakers" as the default audio playback device.

Hey, I was wondering how the hell does S/PDIF Digital Audio work and how does it remember exactly what % volume it should be on a motherboard?
I don't have any speakers, just a keyboard and mouse and I've, reset BIOS, reformatted and reinstalled windows 7 disc and the S/PDIF still remembers what volume % it was on before all of that, how is it remembering this?

I'm just curious how it knows.

A:How does S/PDIF Digital Audio work?

Because the chip on the motherboard stores the info, it's not software.

So guys,I havent been turning on my pc(using win 7) for like a month, when i did it was saying Digital Audio S/PDIF and no sound was going nor through speakers nor through headphones. Before that everything was working fine. So,since i had some viruses on it i reinstalled win, formated both particions, but still that Digital Audio S/PDIF stayed there,in the device menager it says High Definition Audio Device, and it has 2 of them,i tried through device menager to update it but it says that the best driver is already intalled.I searched threads here, tried some downloads but nothing is changed.Since im a musician a little, gamer a little and pc user i really need to fix this, can someone help me?

Here are the specs

A:Digital Audio S/PDIF problem

Headphones and Loudspeakers only accept analog audio. You need a Digital to Analog converter, i.e. a sound card, to decode the digital audio and convert it to analog signal which is then amplified by the amplifier and then transferred to headphones and loudspeakers which translate those signals to sound waves.

Try setting the "speakers" as the default audio device by right clicking the sound icon on the system tray -> playback devices -> click on speakers -> set default audio device.

The instructions that came with card are not very good. The connection to motherboard is such it can only plug in one way. The problem is on the VID card. The connector to the card has a diamond mark on it but there is no mark on the card. With the card mounted on the motherboard, does the diamond mark go on the left pin or right pin? Is this connection neccessary for the operation of the GTX275?

All you need to do for the card to work is install it in the slot, plug in the external power, and then use the DVI or HDMI cables to link the card to the monitor. Done.

Sound functions but reciever is only detecting 2 channel output. Apon browsing RealTekHD audio properites I discovered that the only options for Digital Output(RCA) were all 2-Channel under "Default Format" tab. However my front pannel Audio Output Jack(HD Audio 2nd Output) has an extra third tab labeled "Speaker Configuration" and has options for up to 7.1 surround but these settings do not impact my Digital Output(RCA) channel. Now my reciever does have a multi-channel input that could take advantage of the Analog Outputs in the rear but the distance is to great and multiple wires are expensive.

My question is how can i configure my RealTek Digital Output(RCA) to ouput 7 channel sound?

Have you tied turning down the speaker volume and increasing the volume in Windows. As I have the same problem which is caused by RF leaks by cheap cables. You can sometimes reroute your cables or install wire shielding that helps.

I bought a PC from IbuyPower a wile ago. And I was thrilled that my computer had drivers for "Digital audio (S/PDIF)". But one issue, there is no audio port for it! No "Coxail", no "Optical", No mini toslink port like on the back of consoles. I've tried hooking them up to the line out and the line in ports too. Nothing. Can anyone explain why its doing this and/or a tutorial how to fix?

Hi Makel494, See this Intel link as to how a SPDIF panel can be placed or install. Typically the SPDIF interface is not needed as nowadays the usual 3.5 audio and HDMI ports are the most commonly used in sound setups.

My Acer Aspire X1200 does have 5.1 onborad audio but does not provide digital output (coaxial or optical S/PDIF). I am not sure if it has any port on the motherboard itself using which I can draw digital Audio output.

I am not sure what is the best way to get a 5.1 surround sound digital output from PC. The other thing is my PC has slim cabinet and only one PCI slot.

Can anyone recommend an easy.hard way to get true 5.1 surround sound?

The orange 1/8" port on the back of your computer should output 5.1 audio if you enable it in your software audio settings and use a 1/8" male stereo jack to digital co-axial audio cable.

I was looking for a motherboard to replace my old biostar motherboard that will only support 2 gigs 667mhz, and only overclocks my e5200 up to 3 ghz even when maxing out the voltage. I am on a very tight budget, and this Msi board caught my attention http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130219

Then I checked the MSI website to get more information on this board
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1711

This board catches my attention because....

Its New
Its a Micro Atx with the Pci express x1 below the Pci express 2.0
Drmos Really caught my attention because it states that it makes the board energy efficent, offers a lower tempature and a more stable overclocking enviorment

I have a Pioneer 106s DVD ROM which has a digital 2 pin output.

I just bought a Sony STRDE 675 dolby digital amplifier which has a coaxial digital in input.

My sound card, a soundblaster Live CT 4830 does have a digital out connector on the external part (next to the line in input), but does not have a 2 pin connector on the card itself where the DVD could be connected (there is the place with SPDIF marked but for some reason there is no 2 pins connector)

I do not want to buy a 5.1 soundcard if I can connect my DVD ROM to the amplifier without using the soundcard, Is this possible! Is the DVD rom digital out SPDIF recognised by the amplifier?

Should I create on the soundcard (which does have the digital output on the ecternal panel) an internal connection for the 2 pins? will this work?

Does anyone have a clue? HELP!!

A:Audio big problems. No sound on windows 7. And that (S/PDIF) thing.

First thing, please fill in the "My System Specs" so we know what you have. It helps us to try and help you.

AC97 is the older interface standard for front panel audio (headset and microphone). The current standard is HD Audio. Depending on what interface you have (plug) that plugs into the front panel audio connector on the motherboard is what you should use. The difference between AC97 and HD Audio is basically jack sensing. With HD Audio the sound chip will sense (know) when you have something plugged in.

Go to the Device Manager and post a screenshot of the Sound section.

hey guys, i just got this up and running yesterday and when in operation (but not actually transferring files to or from it) the drive makes a slight humming noise. my older WD 'my book' never made this noise.

is this normal? like i said, i only got it running recently and i don't know if this is apart of normal operation or not. is there any way to check? i did a 'quick drive scan' using the inbuilt software and that returned no errors.

if i did a more thorough scan and checked for bad sectors would this answer my question and solve the problem?

thanks guys

However, in my audio properties now, I cannot choose this option because it no longer exists. Therefore, I have no sound. How do I enable this. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.

Hello,

I used to be able to play digital cd audio, on both my cd-rw and regular cd drive. Now an error message pops up in Windows Media Player saying that the digital audio cannot be played.

When I switch to analog, my regular cd drive still plays cds, but my cd-rw doesn't play all all - no sound. When I tried to rip an audio track off a cd using my cd-rw, it only recorded sound off the microphone (plugged into wave-in on my soundblaster card). What is wrong?

Could someone tell me how to get digital audio back on my 2 cd drives? I went to the cd drive properties under control panel/system/device manager, but the enable cd audio check box is grayed out.

Thank-you for your time, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dan W.

A:Digital CD Audio

What kind of sound card do you have? Do you change any of the wires inside the case? As far as I know, the only way to switch between analog and digital cd audio is to change the wires that are going from your cdrom to the sound card. The Audigy only has one input for digital cd audio, but your card might be different.

What is the differance between digital audio and 'normal' audio???

Does digital audio give better playback or something???

If it does then any idea how to make my 5.1 speakers set-up to digital ??

A:What does digital audio do???

It just means it sends the CD-Audio to your Soundcards DAC instead of using the CD/DVD drives DAC. Should mean better audio as a result. Nothing else needs to be changed for using it.

I just purchased a new digital camera and when I went to install the driver cd that came with it, it said the driver is not compatible with my version of Windows (7). Is there anyway that I can find a new driver? I'm not very knowledgable with drivers and if this possible. Or if not a driver is there anyway that I can get the photos off the camera to my computer...took alot of photos I don't want to lose.

The camera is from a company called Digital Concepts, the driver cd has a company called Sakar International on it. I hope thats all the info that would be needed for someone to help me!

A:Digital Concepts Digital Camera

Hello Alabama Belle, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Do you have the model number of the camera? You can also check at the manufacturer's website to see if they may have any drivers available to download that may work for you.

In addition, if you have a media card reader installed on your computer, you can take the card out of the camera and plug it into the media card reader instead to upload your pictures.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I'm unable to record cassette audio from my audio cassette deck to my computer. Specifically, I'm trying to get audio into Adobe Audition, but would be fine to transfer analog data into any digital audio format, which I could use to burn CD. This issue seems to come up on the forums occasionally, but I have not been able to find a solution. (I have not downloaded the audacity program, as I believe this is more an issue of my computer configuration or input issue).

Operating System: XP - Home
Make/Model: Fry's FM 7440

-I have explored various inputs, including: Audio In (nothing plays through speakers when I attempt this); Microphone input on speaker control (audio then plays through speaker, but is not recognized by adobe audition)
-I have gone through the control panel and explored enabling various devices, nothing is muted

Thanks

I just got a plextor that claims to have 40x digital audio extraction capabilities (an ATAPI drive running in UDMA mode2). However, after getting the aspi drivers for winXP, I still can only seem to rip at 15x max from audiocatylist. Do I need special software to pull audio at 40x, or is there some other setting that I am missing. The CD that came with the drive does not have any software that would help.

A:40x Digital Audio Extraction... how?

I have had similar experience with my TDK drive. It seems to be more of a "source" issue than the drive itself. Probably more of the "Up-to" hype that only happens in perfect conditions. I have gotten as much as 20X from a few CDs but most seem to be around 17X or so. It may also have to do with the format you are "saving as" while you rip. I have only used MP3 @128 for this.

A:DVD Digital Audio converted to mp3

If you have copy of the video as an mpeg or avi file (which will result from downloading off the camera to the computer before being converted to playable DVD) there are a number of freeware programs on the net that will do exactly that - try this one
Not sure if these will accept VOB files (the file type found if DVD's are opened on your computer)
What software are you using to edit the footage? if it is something like Sony Vegas Platinum etc or Adobe Premiere (Pro or even Elements) you can split the audio from the video within the editing suite and export it as an mp3

I would like to point out that we no longer have to attach a cable to a CD drive to listen to CD audio. You can now simply tell Windows 2000/XP to enable digital audio. To do this:

1. Right-Click My Computer and choose Manage
2. Click Device Manager
3. Right-Click the CD and/or DVD-ROM drive and choose Properties
4. When the drive properties diaglog box opens, click the Properties tab
5. Select the check box labeled "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM
device".
6. Click OK
7. Close the Computer Management window.

Of course if you like the cable being in there then by all means leave it in there. I don't like it because it used to get caught up in the air flow in my case and I could hear it rubbing a fan or 2.

Have fun!!

Hi,

Hope you guys can help.

I have a Dell Dimensions PC with an Intel Pentium D processor 820 (2.80Ghz, 800mHz FSB, 2 x 1MB cache), whatever that means.

I have a single 256MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 7800 graphics card and my sound card is a "Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 7.1.

I have years of VHS, S-VHS and Hi8mm analogue footage which I would very much like to convert to a format on my PC that I could convert to digital and save to a DVD for posterity.

This subject has caused a lot of confusion and I would appreciate if someone could provide me with a relatively plain and simple answer, or indeed point me to a tutorial link which would enlighten me.

A:Audio And Video - Vhs,s-vhs And Hi8mm To Digital

I have done quite a bit of tapes but I find that the quality of my finished product is not as good as the original tape. However, I use an old computer that is only 25% the speed of yours and an inexpensive video capture card. You need a video capture card that has inputs for your camera or tape player. It goes into one of your PCI slots inside your computer. It should have an RCA input and/or an S-video input. These are the usual analog inputs. In comparison, a digital sony camcorder would use firewire or usb inputs and you would not need an analog video capture card. As for software, even my cheap capture card came with all I needed to capture video. I also have the Nero suite that does anything you can think of that involves audio and/or video. After you capture your movie you can start editing it or else save it on your harddrive to work on another day. You can add menus and chapters and titles and even add your voice or your favorite songs to the project. Nero makes this all pretty easy. I have used two other capturing software programs as well and they all work fine for me. My processor is an amd duron 700hz and I have no problem capturing, editing, converting, and burning my movies to dvd. My capture card was free with a rebate so I have not spent any cash--- just a lot of time. As I said, my quality is not as good as the original but I do have some sort of backup of 20 years worth of vhs tapes and that gives me a little peace of mind. I believe my quality would improve if I actually spent money on this hobby. Hope this helps.

2. You have installed all relevant drivers for the soundcard, and W2k compability updates?

Hi Guys,

Here's my difficulty. I have a ASUS MAXIMUS IV Gene Z mobo and it talks about connecting the front panel audio connections - a 10-1 pin AAFP. The Atec Sonata Elite case has wiring with 2 optional connectors - 1 is tagged HDA (for High Def Audio I presume) the other is tagged AC'97. Which of these 2 do I connect to the mobo? I am assuming I connect to the 10-pin AAFP pin set and not the SPDIF_OUT single row of 3 pins.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I did a little seach on the dell site to find the specs on your audio

Availability by model
8200
4400
4300S
SmartStep 100D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Card type Integrated

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wavetable voices 64 SW

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Signal-to-Noise Ratio > 84 db

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3D Enhancement No

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sampling Rate Up to 48 kHz

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joystick/Midi Support No

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Operating system support Windows XP
Windows 2000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaker Support 2 channel out analog

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note the last . Seems your card is analog, and supports analog speakers. That is probably why your Digital BA 735 speakers will not work with it.

The controller Chip is an ADI 1885. I cannot find on the dell site how to disable it, but most likely you can disable it by entering the Setup/ BIOS and looking around for it. Otherwise, it will be a jumper on the Main Board.
Here is the link for Dell Support. Maybe you will have better luck finding how to disable the Audio so you can replace it( if that is what you want to do).

http://support.dell.com/us/en/home.asp

Good luck. Hope this was of some help.

hi there,
i need some advise please,
how can i get 5.1 digital sound from my pc to my home theater system?
right know i connect my video card output hdmi to my home theater system hdmi in.
but there is no 5.1 digital coming out of my system.
how do i need to connect those things?
any help please?
thanks

A:5.1 digital sound

Not sure if this works, but if your receiver has HDMI inputs, you'll need to connect the PC to the HDMI input on the receiver, then output the video signal from the receiver to the PC. Again, don't know if that works, as my receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs.

With that said, my HTPC is setup as follows:

*DVI to HDMI video output from PC video card to LCD TV
*Optical audio output (toslink) from PC soundcard to receiver

This setup requires that your sound card has digital/optical outputs. I use BGears Enspirer sound card as it has a the optical output port already included, no need for additional gender changing cables. Unfortunately, this card is no longer produced. I think Creative has a couple of cards with optical output ports.

Greetings,

I am using the X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty sound card.

My headphones are the Tritton AXPro headphones. The "Dolby Decoder Box" that comes with the headphones shows the sound as "PL" instead of "Digital".

I have installed Windows 7 RC 64 bit and the latest Beta drivers from Creative's website. My problem is that I can't get digital to work. Anyone know how?

A:Digital Sound

Hey there,

You need to make sure you are setting this stream in the Creative interface panel and not just in the Windows control panel...or the setting will not take hold.

boy we've been around the block trying to get win7 to play digital audio sound on dvds and no matter what we did using WMP we couldnt get any sound. so installed our Roxio 2009, downloaded the win7 compatible updates, and using their Cineplayer, got sound first try. Yay, now we can watch the dvds and hear them.

Have no clue why WMP wouldn't work tho.

Probably a codec, but who cares, there are tons better player apps. I have become partial to VLC od late because it natively plays anything I throw at it\

A:DAW Systems (Digital Audio/MIDI Worktation)

I'll start this off with a recent (10 minutes ago) observation regarding Win-7's performance with real time applications.

I'm Using Cubase in conjunction with an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 and/or an older RME 24/96 8-in/Out card, both cards are internal PCI.

While playing back eight tracks of 24-bit, 44.1 audio I could make the system glitch by grabbing the Cubase track re-size slider and moving it around quickly. The audio tracks would fill the window so I could only see one or two tracks or shrink until I could see the 8 tracks plus 20 other empty ones.

On a whim I opened the audio configuration window and reduced the internal latency that the mixing engine uses, I then reduced the audio card's I/O buffer from 256 to 128. Normally (in WinXP) this puts more strain on Cubase and the computer in general, as there's less time to process native DSP effects and mix the audio.

The opposite turned out to be true, Cubase's CPU meter showed minimal usage and was steady, I could move windows around and resize tracks, even ran a couple of other audio programs.
Running IE8 and playing a you tube video glitched slightly but only while the video was loading.

I'd be curious to know if anyone else running a MIDI audio sequencer has noticed similar behavior.

Good evening, folks!

I've recently bought an ASUS notebook, model K45a. After a few days, I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, but I didn't like it, so I formatted it and reinstalled Windows 7 64 bits.

I've installed all the preferred drivers from the asus website, but there is no digital output! I got the newest Realtek Audio driver, and no digital output option available.

I've been to Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound > Manage sound devices and right-clicked to select "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices" (sorry if it's not 100% accurate, I'm using a portuguese Windows version and trying to translate it accordingly) and nothing.

All I get is the speakers, no digital option, which means no 5.1 signal through both spdif or hdmi to my home theater. When I open Realtek HD Manager, it only displays the analog jacks.

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you!

I'm working on a project where I need something that can record a signal from a line in and then also be able to have a way to get that audio to a computer. It would be ideal if it could record the audio in some uncompressed format.

The signal its recording will be analogue, so it doesn't have to have a digital in. But it needs to stay digital after that. I think...

I am going to be googling and trying to find one. But I thought I'd drop the question here and see if anyone has some suggestions. Price isn't too much of an issue.

I guess the bottom line what we need is:

Something small, as in something you could hold in your hand.
Must have a line in.
Either a usb connection to a computer or a digital out.

I don't really want to go with a voice recorder, because we are needing better quality than I think you can get with a voice recorder.

Edit: I saw on cnet forums one guy was concerned that the R1 didn't have a mono mode. That reminded me, we need it to have a mono mode, the signal I'll be recording is in mono.

I have an Asus Rampage II Motherboard, which comes with the SupremeFX X-Fi Card. Although the card is **** I was able to get it to do what I wanted up until now.

My current setup is through a line-out S/PDIF into a Yamaha receiver for 5.1 audio. My only problem is that it seems no matter what I do I cant seem to get the mic to work through the mic jack on the back of the card.

I have the most up to date drivers (SoundMax Integrated Digital HD audio), and all of my Playback & Recording devices are enabled. (See Image)

I'm out of ideas and have no idea what to do to get it working. If there is anyone out there that can give me some advice on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have been giving Voiceovers a go and have been told that I need both my Alesis Miser as well as an Digital Audio Interface. My Mixer has a built in preamp and plugs directly into my computer by the use of an USB cord. My Alesis Mixer also has two XLR ports for my Studio Condensor Mic. But I am told the outcome is not as clear as it would be if I now ran out and purchased an Digital Audio Interface and/or a better sound card. The Sound card I am using is merely the ON-BOARD sound card that came with the machine.

I'm confused. Hope someone can straighten me out.

Thanks

A:Do I need a Digital Audio Interface besides my Alesis Mixer

I have a recording studio (using Sonar software). The Alesis should give you satisfactory results.

As you are using the built in PC sound card, I would use the Analog outputs of the Alesis Mixer rather than the USB. Connect the output either to the Mic input or to the Line In input and then use that as your recording (voiceover) source. Depending on what the Alesis has, you can adjust the EQ for what type of response you want. PC sound card inputs are about -4DB (maximum) so the "Line Out" on a mixer matches well with the PC sound card input.

You can test the sound, as what you are inputting should be what you are hearing in the PC's speakers (or PC headphones).

If that does not provide desired results then you can look at some other audio interface unit. What is the Alesis model you are using?

Hi,

I'm trying to update my sound card but I can't seem to find an update that will work. I've searched with google and found some apparent updates but they didn't seem to work with my system. The program usually installs and then at the end it says "Error! Drivers not found, please reboot and run this install again" -- or something along those lines.

I'm including an HTML report I generated using Everest that has my hardware layout. If anyone can help me get this sound card updated it would be much appreciated!

If there's any more info that I can provide please let me know.

A:trying to update a SoundMAX Digital Audio Driver

Simply put, you do not have a sound card as such.

Your audio is integrated into the motherboard Intel 850 chipset. Update the audio drivers for your chipset and Windows version.

Intel should have them. The link is given in Everest.

Hi all,

My problem has to do with my new webcam, a Prolink PCC5020, the images, and video works fine, but not the mic, and only in MSN Messenger 2009.The Mic is built into the webcam, and both connect to the pc via a single usb line.

When I configure the Audio and Video in MSN Messenger, the webcam mic doesn't show up in the drop down list, so I went and checked in Control Panel>Sound>Recording

and it said 'Digital Audio Interface' and was perfectly working,
but that's not in the drop down list in MSN Messenger.
Any ideas has to how to get it to work?

I think this is the right place to post. When I reformatted my C:\ drive, my sound card has uninstalled itself. It's on board, and so to get drivers I need to find out the manufacturer of my motherboard. I opened the computer up and couldn't see anything. Using Aida32, I got this info:

Motherboard Properties
Motherboard ID 10/12/1999-i810-W83627HF-6A69MTGCC-00
Motherboard Name Unknown

Front Side Bus Properties
Bus Type Intel GTL+
Bus Width 64-bit
Real Clock 67 MHz
Effective Clock 67 MHz
Bandwidth 533 MB/s

Chipset Bus Properties
Bus Type Intel Hub Interface

I'm now stuck. I can't find the drivers for anything like this anywhere. Can someone identify the motherboard, and provide a link to the drivers please?
Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I've been running on W8 Consumer Preview since release without any trouble at all. Yesterday I installed the Release Preview and I've encountered a problem. My PC outputs to the amplifier via HDMI on my graphic card (Radeon HD 6700). The problem is that in the speaker configuration from playback devices only allows me to select 2 channel audio, and has no option for 5.1, so anything which tries to play 5.1 audio will result in no sound output.

I've installed the latest release of the Catalyst Control Center released 31 May (for Windows 8 RP). This was all working perfectly under the Consumer Preview.

Any idea how to get it to work?

Edit: I know HDMI is not selected as default device in the screenshot above. That's not an issue as XBMC always outputs from HDMI irrespective of my default choice.

A:Digital Audio (HDMI) only has 2 channel option

this is quite normal.

all digital outputs cannot be configured in windows - this is why you can only see 2 channels. this setting applies only for analog audio as it is processed by windows. As it is digital signal streamed to external decoder - windows setting doesn't mean anything, correct format is encoded by source app and decoded by ext. device.

i tested it on 2 different computers, with hdmi, digital coax and spdif.

if u get no sound over hdmi at all - try to install different driver.

I have a very old but very functional computer that I'd like to connect to my surround sound PC speakers. I currently have the computer connected to the speakers via the analog green, yellow and black cables, but my card states that it can support digital audio out, but I'm not sure what kind of cable to use for digital out. I've tried looking on here, but didn't find a solution, probably since my audio card is about 8 or so years old. It appears to be some sort of coaxial output on the card, but maybe not. I've attached pictures of my actual sound card, the far right port is the digital out. The sound card is SB Audigy 2 and my speakers are Altec Lansing ADA995 speakers, thanks in advance, I've been looking for a solution for a long time.

A:Cable for digital audio out for SB Audigy 2 card

Dell used a custom Audigy 2ZS but it still is basically the same as the Retail version. According to the Creative (SoundBlaster) site it's a standard 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo plug. It is not "optical" (TOS) so you will need a compatible "digital" input on your surround amplifier for it to work. Probably the best thing is to continue using it the way you are now.

Open up volume control. Options/Properties. Make sure Playback is ticked.
Then check all entries, after that Advanced under Options/Properties.

All boxes which have advanced on them-look through those.
The setting will be there, it's usually in the first box which has advanced in it.

I don't have an SB card anymore, so I can't tell you the name of the box it would be under.

Hey guys

First of all: This is my first post here and I?m really happy to have found a site that might help me with my problems. ( I really love your tutorial section )

Now my problem:

I was used to be able to use the digital as well as the analog output of my soundcard at the same time. (Soundcard is an onboard one with the AC?97 sound chip).

But now running vista I can only use one.

(Sorry for the german language)

Either I choose the analog output to be "standard" (then it has the green tick) or the digital output..

Only the one chosen works then.

Is there any way to get both working simultainiously?
Thanks a lot

A:Windows Vista Audio => Digital and Analog

Welcome Maxi,

I'm glad you love the tutorials. Feel free to post one of a tip you have as well.

I do not think you can have both. It is pretty much a one or the other option. You can go into you "Realtek Audio Manager" in the Control Panel (Classic View) and make audio quality adjustments in the advanced options.

Does anyone here have a XBox 360 with a digital audio (toslink/optical) connection to an A/V receiver? If you do, did you use a standard toslink cable? Have you had any issues with the digital audio?

Do you get 5.1 surround sound from DVD playback as well as from XBox 360 games?

Thanks in advance!

Peace...

A:Question about XBox 360 and digital audio connections

Hey. Just got my 360 today.
Yes I have mine hooked up with optical audio and RCA video.
I'm hearing 5.1 as far as I can tell.
Haven't tried a movie but GTA 4 is in surround.
