Preferred Solution: OS will not change audio settings, maybe malware?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everybody!
Its my first thread in here after a week of searching the web back and forth for solutions!

I just installed win 7 (ultimate X32) on my computer, and i want to set the realtek audio card so i can hear sound through the front headphones and i cant get the audio to work!
I have the latest realtek drivers (6.0.1.6383) but i cant find the audio manager.

My Suspicion is that the audio output is set to the RCA line out on my driver, but i cant find a way to change the output settings.

Any suggestions?

A:Cant change audio output settings

Hello mpmisha & Welcome to SevenForums

Have you been trying this? Or can't you open your Realtek at all?
If no, try re-installing it in the control panel, and clean leftover files by using Driver Sweeper. IF you want to!

Best Regards,
FredeGail

So I recently got my computer fixed and I am trying to talk on skype because I record youtube videos. Up to now I've been using my Turtle Beach X32's as my headset and I just had an additional cord I purchased for $10. Now that I'm back my headset won't work. I can hear through it but I can't speak to it and I have both cords plugged in the right place. I do think it's a setting that you need to change... help?

A:How do I change my audio settings to headset?

Welcome to Seven Forums Matt123321. Easiest is right click the speaker icon in the system tray and click on Open volume mixer> Make sure the mic isn't muted.

If it isn't, try some troubleshooting:

Right click the speaker icon in the system tray> Click Recording devices> Does it show the microphone with a green check mark and default device?

If not, highlight microphone> Click on Properties> Does the Jack information show the location you are plugged into (IE: you have it plugged into front, does it list rear panel, etc.)

If the mic is detected and default, highlight it and click on Configure> Click on Set up microphone> Click on type of microphone (headset?), and click on next> Follow the wizard

If needed, post some screenshots of the sound screens. I don't use a headset myself, but I'm sure many who do can help if my suggestions don't.

I cant change my playback settings on the audio settings, My laptop is connected through HDMI and has worked before, however lately when i press the set default button it does nothing. I feel like I've tried everything any suggestions would be grateful.

A:Can't change playback settings on manage audio devices

I suspect something has happened to the HDMI connection. Normally, when an HDMI cable is connected Windows will automatically switch the default playback device to HDMI.

Try recycling the HDMI Audio and see if that helps. Go to the Device Manager, Right click on the entry for the Intel Display audio and then RIGHT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the driver. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Intel Display Audio. This will fix any Windows corruption.

If this does not fix it, reinstall the Intel video drivers. Then check to see if it works OK.

A:can't change to factory settings because of some kind of malware

Hello,
I will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while I assist you.
Some points for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us

Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs,  unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.

Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post.

Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process.

Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.

NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.
- Do NOT backup any unknown files ending in .exe, .com, .scr, .pif, and .bat since files of these types are more likely to be infected.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.
----------------------------------------------
Please do the following:
Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!
Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe on your desktop to run the tool for known TDSS variants.Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.
To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.
Click on change parameters
Under Objects to scan, check the boxes next to Verify file digital signatures, Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.
Click the Start Scan button.
Do not use the computer during the scan
If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.Note: If Cure is not an option, Skip instead, do NOT choose Delete or Quarantine unless instructed.
A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).
Copy and paste the full contents of that file in your next reply. - If the log is too long, then split it into multiple posts.

There is a These in settings. should Failed registry! change to proxy settings never internet software Failed to change internet proxy settings. These settings should never in registry! which often changes the proxy settings so I decided to config the internet settings registry right to reject the proxy settings But When I decided to delete this software and return the rights back I suddenly found that I can not change the proxy settings manually The detail is that I change the auto proxy url to let my pc use a pac file and I don't want any softwares to change However when I decided to give the rights back and try to change the url back it never success and even the same when i'm sure I have cleared this url in the whole registry but it back as it never changes I check the registry rights twice or more to make sure that the rights has given back just like it originally should be But it never works So the result is I have to clear and reinstall the WINDOWS AGAIN Never should you save such information both in registry and somewhere I don't know Or you should let these stuffs out of the registry

Hello,
Is it possibly the Anniversary Update, which has blocked my possibilities to change the Lock Screen configuration? In Settings->Personalisation that whole option is greyed out today and I'm stuck with a lock screen, which I can't modify or change. Any help for this? Perhaps there is a registry change I could apply? I would be happy for any suggestion.

I've attached an image. My language is Swedish, but I guess that you will recognise the part of the Settings->Personalisation, which is shown.

Thanks in advance

A:External display settings change when Power options change?

Check to see what resolution your laptop's display is at, what the external TV resolution is when you connect it to your laptop, and MAYBE what resolution the videos you're watching are. This just sounds like a resolution issue. If the TV is at a larger resolution than your laptop's resolution, change the TV's resolution to the size your laptop is at. Then try watching a video to see what happens. Hope this helps.

I have a new Medion Akoya P7360 (MD 8855) PC running Windows 7. I have been using Skype, and on one call my cousin couldn't stop laughing, he said I sounded like I'd been breathing in helium! I eventually pinned it down and discovered that it happens every time the PC goes into Sleep mode. After power-up, I can ring the Skype Call Testing Service (echo test) and it echoes back my message perfectly. If I put my PC into Sleep Mode (or allow it to do it automatically) then revive it, it raises the pitch of the microphone by about 5 semitones. I have tried a USB Phone, and this sounded OK. The only way I can resolve it at the moment is to re-boot the PC. I'm at a loss to think what the problem could be. I'm pretty sure I have the latest drivers. Anybody got any ideas?

Ever since upgrading to Windows 8.1 I haven't been able to change my update settings. The drop-down is greyed out and can't be clicked on. Above the drop down it says "Some settings are managed by your system administrator"

I've deleted my user account and created a new one, but the problem remains. I've unlocked the Administrator account, but even through that account the settings can't be changed. I'm not in a homegroup, as I've heard this could solve the problem and I've disconnected and reconnected my Microsoft account to my User Account to no avail.

Please help, Windows keeps updating and I don't have the bandwidth to continue this way.

I think there are threads on this subject. Haven't been able to find any one that solves my problem.

A:Can't Change Update Settings "Some settings are managed.."

Hello C, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This sounds like a group policy has been set to prevent access to those settings. As you found out, this would be a global setting applied to all user accounts (new and old).

Please post a screenshot showing your Windows Update settings to help narrow down which policy it may be since there are a few for Windows Update.

I'm currently using IDT audio on my laptop, and I'm wondering if I could change the audio to Realtek. I also noticed Realtek PCIE Card Reader and Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver in the Programs and Features list. Why do I have Realtek products when I have IDT audio?
Can I change from IDT to Realtek?
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6c35dx. If there's anything else you need to know, let me know. Thanks

A:Is it possible to change from IDT Audio to Realtek Audio?

No, the IDT chip is soldered to the motherboard, and cannot be changed.
The manufacturer has many options available to them when they design the computer. (such as network chip, sound chip, and others)

The IDT will/should work just fine for your system.

I am laptop user. About 2hr ago, i login to my lappy and discover that my profile is different. My folders on desktop went missing and some of the setting changed. Then i try on my own to solve it but to no avail. Trying to add a new DNS IP address. Go to the adapter, go to the IPV4 properties and advanced and add the new DNS IP address. Every thing is fine until I close the adaptor window and it pops up an error "an unexpected condition occurred, not all of your requested changes in settings could be made"

Even if I make no changes at all and just open and close it I get this. Need to set the new DNS as first on the list.

A:Cant change DNS settings

I have found that it has a VMWare Bridge Protocol in the adaptor. I installed a VMware view client to log remotely into work. It didn't work so I removed it. Seems it left two adaptors behind. I uninstalled the drivers for these and they are gone but can't get rid of the bridge. If I try and unselect it nothing happens. Uninstalling it gives an error number of 08007007E.
Cant add the IP via Powershell either as it wont allow access.

If you mean Windows setting, click click the Start Orb, then click Control Panel

I have a laptop running windows xp. When I turn it on, it prompts me to choose my name and log on. I have it set up so it doesn't ask for a password. My hubby and I are the only 2 people who use this laptop and I don't feel the need for it to ask for one. I'd like to change it so it doesn't ask me to log on but just loads windows immediately as well. Is there any way to do this? I often turn it on and run to do a quick task and come back so it would be much more convenient to have windows up and running when I get back.

A:How to change xp settings..

One way you could do it would be to have your power setting to go into stand-by mode after about 10 minutes and have it not ask for a password on return from stand-by, so you could just move the mouse and it would come back up to full power right where you left off.

How would I go about changing the set up of my second drive (It will have Win 7 clean install on it) from Status "None", Type "Logical" to "System" and "Primary" also
what should the setting be for the balance of the drive that will contain directories and etc?
I have Easeus Partition Master and Partition Wizard but I never did a partition before.

Thanks

A:How to change HD settings?

Hi again John -

I would wipe the HD first to remove any conflicting or factory code, then use booted Win7 install DVD Custom>Drive Options to create partition(s) as you wish, format before installing Win7 to first partition.
SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

It will create Primary partitions with Win7 as the System partition.

A recommended method is to create an OS partition of 20-100 gb depending on HD size and number of programs, then a separate Data partition to place your User folders so they are in their own "vault." If Win7 ever won't startup or repair, you can reinstall or reimage the OS and programs to first partition and data will be waiting next door.

If you have enough space I'd create a backup partition on each HD to store a System image of the other HD's OS and date so you can easily reimage to a new HD in case of HD failure. This can also be done on an external HD.

I remember from another thread that you are planning to wisely boot separate HD's from the BIOS. Remember to unplug the other HD's during install, then set Win7 as first HD to boot in BIOS when you plug it back in, boot the other HD OS using one-time Boot menu key given on first screen.

I have recently installed software called 'Tune Up Utilites 2010' and immediately found a vast improvement and one its recommendations was to increase resolution to 1680 x 1050. Having then done that in 'Display Properties' it then advises to 'Set dpi to 96'.

However, I cannot find how to make changes to dpi. Any ideas please.

A:How do I change dpi settings

I have now discovered the answer to my own question. Vista Default Font size is dpi 96. This I inadvertantly changed when having increased my Screen size to 1680 x 1050 this made my Fonts appear very small, so I opted for the larger Font size 120 (dpi). Tune Up Utilities detected this change and in the interests of performance improvement (a criterion I had established when setting up my user preferences) it suggest reducing to 'dpi 96'. I hadn't realised then that dpi was related to Font size.

Having twigged that, I knew that by right clicking my cursor in Desktop, I could access 'Personalise Display' and therein Access 'Change dpi'. As I prefer the larger Font, I'll stick to 120 (dpi) in the interests of clarity.

How do i change the settings and get it up to 100 or 133?

A:How do i change my ATA settings

Maybe you are not using a proper ATA-66, ATA-100, ATA-133 (all same) cable, but are using an ATA-33 cable instead. That would certainly explain it as your hard drive settings should be automatically detected.

My computer crashed and wouldn't reboot. I booted it using the rescue disc which prompted me to use the original windows ME CD. I have reinstalled or reconfigured all of the software without a problem but the colour settings are stuck on 16 colours and the resolution on 640 by 480 pixels. When I try to change the settings the computer prompts me to reboot for the changes to take effect but when the computer has rebooted the settings are still the same!!

Recently I signed up for a proxy server application called Secure Tunnel. As part of the setup, I checked the proxy server block in the LAN settings box and filled in the I.P. address and port number they gave me. For whatever reason, the Secure Tunnel application did not do well with Vista. Now I want to change my LAN settings back to "automatically detect" and eliminate the proxy server, but the LAN settings box is whited out and I cannot make any changes. I have spent over 4 hours on the phone with Dell and Microsoft and they cannot figure it out. The Secure Tunnel folks don't have a tech support telephone number and I can't seem to make them understand the problem by email. Can anyone plese give me some advise? Thank you.

Hi all

I am trying to run a communications program and I have to change settings. I have managed to change the router destination ports, but I am having one Hell of a problem trying to find out how to change the TCP settings. I have tried follow MS instructions, but as usual, I have got so far along and cannot see what they are telling me. The instruction from the program are: Allow TCP (source port any, destination port 5200) from PC to internet.

Wonder if there is anyone who can help me?

A:change TCP settings

This sounds to me like creating an outgoing firewall rule to let a program connect to internet on a particular port. Router configuration should not matter typically (NAT blocks incoming only).
For Windows built-in firewall, by default outgoing filtering is also disabled, unless you enabled it manually afterwards (is that your case?).
Do you have an antivirus with an integrated firewall or any other firewall possibly blocking it?
With all the defaults, and strictly following the line you copied, I think you don't need any special setup for it to work, as long as you stick to Windows defaults.

There are quite a few ways to do it, you can try these;

SharpKeys

Keyboard remap – Pause Break key as DEL key | Hana & Sarah's Freeware blog

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...dows-xp-vista/

Much more comprehensive;

http://www.autohotkey.com/

Some keys, often the Function keys, on various machines, are "Hard Coded", and can't be remapped because they don't have a scan code.

Be careful! Remapping keys can cause problems.......................

Hello, I'm new on SevenForums and I need to help.

I was testing my Small Basic app, but when I launched it, the TextWindow font size was only 4?6 pixels.
So I launched the Command Prompt via Run, and the size was also 4?6.

In Properties, there were only 4 tabs and 9 sizes of Terminal font. The default one, 8?12, wasn't in the options.
I can show you screenshot of Properties window. (I'm using WindowsBlinds 8 with Mac skin, where active tab texture is same with inactive tab.)

How can I restore font size to 8?12?

It would be a big help for me if you post value of this:

Hi,
I was advised that the reason I can not send files using DCC SEND on MIRC is because of my XP firewall settings. What settings are there, where are they, and can they be changed or disabled for the few minutes it takes to send a file. I can receive a file on MIRC with no problem. I thought a firewall protects me from "things" coming in. But, my problem is sending files out.

I have a problem with a change having been made to my desktop, whereby all my icons are permanently highlighted, and there is a new small image on the desktop.

The above occured after I tried copying a weblink to my desktop, and I got a dialog box asking if I wanted an active desktop component or some such. Foolishly I clicked yes.

Can anyone advise me how to undo this change ?

From Googling I have tried right clck / properties / desktop / customise desktop - no luck.

Also control panel / system / advanced / performance / settings / use drop down shadows - this item is unchecked.

Neither have rectified this.

Can anyone help ? Or should I just Sys Restore ?

It looks like you disabled app notifications. You should be able to use an option in the tutorial below enable them again, and fix this.

Hello there, i'll get straight to the point.

I'm not amazing with computers so bare with me. I have a HP DV2799, and although I can access BIOS (shows as phoenixBios), there is little that I can change.

I'm trying to change my HDD settings to a solution for my other problem - I can't boot windows vista after it does an update, and going back to system restore every few days is tedious at best.

I'm currently accessing the BIOS with F10# Is there any way i can change the HDD settings, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim.

I was trying to set up an LAN for a game of mine to play with another computer i have and noticed that everytime I tried to change the "allow a program through firewall", nothing would happen. I know you first have to click on the top right hand "change settings" button first, but it still won't let me click the checkmark to allow it to work through the firewall. Im thinking its some sort of malware and Im hoping for help.

Thoughts?

I am sure something is wrong here.
I have 3 computers connected to my Belkin adsl hi speed wireless router and 2 laptops and a playstation. all using mac address filtering.

At the moment everything has full internet access.

My problem is I neesd to add the WII mac address but if I restart the router I can access the main interface then as soon as I go to a setting I get this page Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage . There must be a simple solution.arrrr

A:Cannot change settings in Router

Two things come to mind.
Some brands force you to access the router from the LAN/Ethernet port, unless you configured it to accept control from any IP served by the router.

The second item could be that you had advanced to the point to commit to the change and the router reboots at that point. However, it this were true, you probably would not be posting your problem here.

Restarting / rebooting are not the same as resetting the router. You may need to resort to extreme measures, reset the router, and reconfigure it.

Based on your description, I assumed you had successfully logged in. From there you went to the main page. After that it was not clear if you were able to obtain any other pages or that you obtained a paged, made changes, and then lost communication with the router.

Hi guys,

I've recently been promoted to office manager of a small business and I've been trying to download adobe flash player but nothing happens. There's no yellow bar at the top of the screen, and I've checked the settings that I can access. Apparently the last manager was a bit harsh with staff and blocked their ability to download programs. However, we now need this to be installed and no-one here knows how to reverse what the paranoid manager set up. The directors of the company are completely useless when it comes to IT - I had to show them how to delete cells in excel. You see what I'm up against?!

[Win XP SP3 and updates]

Hello,

I have a few folders in the desktop.

Some are drive folders and the view is details. I think the size is the Windows default.

Others are tools folders, view is icons and I adjust size to fit.

For a long time everything was fine, but lately the tools folders started to reset to details view and size becomes the same as the drive folders.

Using TweakUI to increase the number of folders to remember didn't solve the problem. The folders do not change at once, sometimes one, later another, etc.

Thanks for your help!

One of the things that I find annoying is being told that the updates are ready to download. Usually I settle for remind me later. Yesterday I allowed the updates to be downloaded and later, to be installed.
Since then I've had problems. Every time I reboot I get the message
Windows 2000 has finished installing new devices. you must restart your computer before new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now? I said "yes" the first couple of times but I still get asked again - and again! So now I say "no" and the computer boots without problem.
I confess to not knowing what the updates were for (!) If I did, I'd probably try another download and try a re-install. As it is, I'm left with the recurring message and no ideas regarding how to solve it. Anyone got any ideas?

Restore on AC power loss, What happens when power to computer is cut. Last state = If it was on at the time to turn it back on when power is restored. Other setting may be to stay off even when power is restored (I would recommend that), includes using switch at the back of PSU.

On Board SATA Controller = That's controller for SATA ports where you plug in your disks (HDD. SSD or ODD), with it disabled those devices don't work.
On board SATA mode = should have IDE, RAID and AHCI modes, last one best used with SSD drives. RAID: What is RAID storage? Webopedia Definition
On board USB controller = Provides USB support.
Legacy USB Support = Lets you use USB1 and 1.1 devices.
On board audio and LAN (Local Area Network) which provides support for your wired network connections like with wired Routers etc.
On board LAN option ROM, allows starting computer over network signal: LAN Option ROM

Except for that RAID part (if you don't use RAD array) everything else is correctly set for most cases. If you have SSD it should be set to AHCI and if HDD, IDE mode.

I would appreciate some help on this one as I cannot seem to find a way of changing it.

I am running Win 7 Pro, IE 11 with PDF Reader as Foxit Reader Vers 6.

Whenever I choose a pdf file to download from the internet IE 11 automatically downloads to the download folder of which right thereafter the file is opened up into my pdf viewer.

How can I get a prompt requesting me on where I would like to save the file and then to navigate there at another time and open it from there.

Any help would be appreciated on where I should be looking.

Regards and thanks
Dave.

When I turned on my computer, the startup said that its settings had changed. I ran all the startup recovery but windows said that it did not find anything wrong with the startup. After the computer booted up, the desktop icons were much smaller than before. Also, I signed on to my email and my email account had signed off on its own when I was using it. I scanned using the ad-aware that was installed on my computer, but it did not find anything. What is wrong with my computer?

Also, no system restore points exist even though the settings are set to use 5% of the hard drive.

This happens sometimes when playing games, perhaps flash games, on a web browser. The mouse will suddenly get very slow, or very fast, and requiring altering in Mouse Settings. Any way to stop this from happening? Everything's updated, of course. I'm thinking a memory problem causes the settings to reset to default?

; I can't change any of the settings on my old IBM Thinkpad laptop running Windows XP-1.

When I go into control panel I cannot get into any of the programs and this problem box comes up:
"Windows cannot find C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe.................."

And sytem restore is not running so I can't change that either.
It is very frustrating since I need to get rid of a program that is screwing up my dvd player sound system.

THANKS

A:Cannot change most settings on my own computer!!

Try starting in Safe Mode, and doing a System Restore when prompted after logging in. Choose a time/date before the problem, (and your IPod movie attempt).
Or access System restore after you log in normally. That should be your first step.

Hi,

Recently my computer's internet gliched and I can no longer connect to any webpage. I think it might have somthing to do with me deleting route 0.0.0.0 on cmd. this is what I wrote:

route delete -p 0.0.0.0

Is there any way i can restore the deleted route?

A:How do I change cmd to default settings?

Hi and welcome to the Forum
Can you do a system restore to a point behind when you did the deletion? It would also beg the question why did you delete it?
